우리는 이번 안식일 2024년 1월 13일에 출애굽기로 깊이 들어갑니다. 토라 포션은 노예 생활에서 자유로의 구원 이야기인 출애굽 이야기로 들어가고 있습니다. 역사상 가장 위대한 제국 중 하나였던 애굽(이집트)의 손아귀에서 한 국가가 해방되는 이야기입니다. 모세가 위대한 바로(파라오)의 딸의 아들인 이집트 왕자였을 때 이집트는 아프리카 대륙 전체의 거의 3분의 1을 다스렸습니다. 야곱, 즉 이스라엘의 자녀들은 요셉에 의해 이집트로 내려왔습니다. 요셉은 카이로의 헬리오폴리스에 있는 온 신전의 제사장 보디발의 집의 매혹적인 여주인으로부터 성적 비행을 했다는 거짓 고소를 당한 히브리 노예 소년이었습니다.

요셉은 이 이집트 귀족 집의 수석 노예였다가 감옥에 갇히는 신세가 되었는데, 우리는 야곱의 아들 요셉이 얼마나 오랫동안 이집트 감옥에서 복역했는지는 알 수 없습니다. 확실한 것은 짧은 시간이 아니었다는 것입니다. 제가 이것을 아는 이유는 일반 죄수로 감옥에 갇힌 요셉이 관리인이자 집행관이 되었기 때문입니다. 사건들은 하나님의 섭리와 신묘한 길로 진행되어 요셉은 하나님께서 그에게 주신 꿈을 해석할 수 있는 은사를 통해 애굽을 다스리는 두 번째 지도자가 되었습니다.
그의 형제들은 먹을 것을 구하러 이집트로 내려왔습니다. 이집트는 중동 전체의 곡창지대였습니다. 그 당시 이집트는 가나안 땅을 점령하여 이집트의 속주로 삼았습니다. 

성공적인 오랜 세월 후, 야곱/이스라엘의 자손은 새로운 파라오의 마음을 심란하게 만들었는데요, 이 히브리계 외국인들이 너무 많아지고 성공하여 파라오와 이집트에 등을 돌릴까 봐 두려워하게 되었던 것이었습니다. 여러분은 이러한 현상이 이스라엘 역사에서 그토록 여러 번 반복되는 이유가 무엇이라고 생각하십니까? 히브리 민족의 유전자 속의 무엇이 그들을 성공하게 만들어, 다른 민족들로 하여금 악마적인 질투, 질투의 발작을 일으켜 그 성공을 두려워하고 부러워하게 만드는 것일까요? 이러한 현상은 역사상 여러 차례 반복되었습니다. 20세기로 접어들어서도, 그리고 지금도 하마스와 헤즈볼라는 이란(페르시아)의 대리인이 되어 있습니다. 이번은 역사상 페르시아=이란이 지구상에서 유대 국가를 없애버리려는 목표를 세운 두 번째입니다. 

제가 이 짧은 배경을 여러분에게 나누는 이유는 가자지구와 북부 전선의 헤즈볼라와의 이 전쟁을 하나님의 신묘한 계획과 역사라는 더 넓은 관점으로 보기 위해서입니다. 저는 여러분이 이스라엘 국가를 위해, 그리고 이 미친 전쟁의 시기에 저희와 온 이스라엘 편에 서 있는 사람들을 위해 진지한 헌신과 깊은 중보로 기도할 수 있도록 돕기 위해 이 배경을 씁니다.

네티비야 지체들 중에 가자지구와 북부 최전선에 나가 있는 이들이 13명 있습니다. 주님께서는 네티비야를 사용하여 기적적으로 이스라엘 군대의 최전선과 정예 특공대에 꼭 필요한 전술 장비를 제공하셨습니다. 이 장비는 생명을 구하는 것일 뿐만 아니라, 이스라엘과 전 세계 예슈아의 유대인 제자들이 비애와 슬픔의 이 시간에 이스라엘 편에 서서 이스라엘 군대를 축복한다는 살아있는 증거이기도 합니다. 저희는 모든 군인을 지지하고 무고한 민간인을 공격하는 하마스 악마 정권의 모든 희생자를 지지합니다.

선지서 포션은 에스겔 28:25~29:21입니다.
신약성경에서 읽는 말씀은 누가복음 11:14-22입니다.

출애굽 이야기는 대부분의 유대인과 기독교인에게 친숙한 이야기이기 때문에 이번 안식일에는 선지서 포션과 신약성경 포션에 집중하고 싶습니다. 선지서 포션 말씀은 우리가 살고 있는 바로 이 시대에 너무나 관련이 있고 중요합니다.

“주 여호와께서 이같이 말씀하셨느니라 내가 여러 민족 가운데에 흩어져 있는 이스라엘 족속을 모으고 그들로 말미암아 여러 나라의 눈 앞에서 내 거룩함을 나타낼 때에 그들이 고국 땅 곧 내 종 야곱에게 준 땅에 거주할지라 그들이 그 가운데에 평안히 살면서 집을 건축하며 포도원을 만들고 그들의 사방에서 멸시하던 모든 자를 내가 심판할 때에 그들이 평안히 살며 내가 그 하나님 여호와인 줄을 그들이 알리라” (에스겔 28:25-26)

선지자 에스겔을 통해 하나님께서 하신 말씀을 주목해 보시기 바랍니다:
1. 선지자의 말씀에 정한 때는 하나님께서 친히 이스라엘 족속을 흩으신 그 열방 가운데서 이스라엘을 모으시는 때로, 여러 나라들이 이 일을 거룩히 여기는 때입니다. 이스라엘이 그들의 땅으로 회복될 때 하나님께서는 열방에 의해 거룩히 여김 받으시게 될 것입니다.
2. 야곱, 즉 이스라엘의 자손은 그 땅에서 안전하고 평안히 번성할 것입니다.
3. 하나님께서 이스라엘 주위 나라들을 심판하실 것이며 그 나라들은 하나님께서 여호와이시며 또한 그 나라들의 하나님이심을 알게 될 것입니다.

에스겔서 29장 1-21절 말씀에서 하나님께서는 바벨론에서 디아스포라 생활을 하고 있는 에스겔에게 말씀하십니다. 하나님께서는 에스겔에게 그분께서 애굽에 그의 의를 행하실 것을 계시하고 계십니다. 고대 이집트는 고대 로마와 오늘날 서구 사회의 모델이자 발전의 모습입니다. 저는 선지자 에스겔에게 주신 하나님의 계시에 대한 묘사가 개인적으로 저 자신을 매우 두렵게 만드는 것이 두렵습니다. 제국은 태어나고 사멸하며, 우리는 고대 역사에서뿐만 아니라 지금도 텔레비전에서 국제 뉴스를 볼 때마다 우리 눈앞에서 그러한 과정을 목격합니다. 즉, 도덕적 몰락, 정치적 부패, 증가하는 반유대주의, 하나님의 말씀에서 가증하다고 부르는 모든 것이 훨씬 더 많이 증가하는 것을 목격합니다.

이 광대한 세상적인 것의 바다에서 작은 사람들이며 예슈아의 단순한 제자들인 우리는 무엇을 할 수 있습니까?
1. 우리 각자의 나라와 이스라엘 나라를 위해 기도하며 계속 기도하고 중보하십시오. 우리는 아직도 하나님께서 우리 조상 아브라함에게 주신 축복 아래 있습니다: “너를 축복하는 자에게는 내가 복을 내리고 너를 저주하는 자에게는 내가 저주하리니.”
2. 현대 광고판과 같이 우리의 삶을 사십시오! 이사야 선지자가 예언하여 우리를 이 세상에서 하나님의 자녀로 위임한 것과 같이 증인이 되십시오. 우리 이스라엘과 하나님의 이름으로 일컬음을 받는 모든 민족에게 하나님의 이름으로 위임한 선지자 이사야의 말은 이렇습니다.

“열방은 모였으며 민족들이 회집하였는데 그들 중에 누가 이 일을 알려 주며 이전 일들을 우리에게 들려 주겠느냐 그들이 그들의 증인을 세워서 자기들의 옳음을 나타내고 듣는 자들이 옳다고 말하게 하여 보라 나 여호와가 말하노라 너희는 나의 증인, 나의 종으로 택함을 입었나니 이는 너희가 나를 알고 믿으며 내가 그인 줄 깨닫게 하려 함이라 나의 전에 지음을 받은 신이 없었느니라 나의 후에도 없으리라 나 곧 나는 여호와라 나 외에 구원자가 없느니라 내가 알려 주었으며 구원하였으며 보였고 너희 중에 다른 신이 없었나니 그러므로 너희는 나의 증인이요 나는 하나님이니라 여호와의 말씀이니라” (이사야 43:9-12)

저는 우리 대부분이 하나님 나라와 그 왕의 증인이 되는 것에 대해 어떻게 생각하는지 알고 있습니다. 우리는 이것이 직업인, 설교자, 목회자, 교회 지도자들의 일이라고 생각합니다. 요즘에는 하나님과 하나님의 말씀에 관해 이야기하는 것이 멋있는 것으로 여겨지지 않습니다. 그러나 친애하는 형제님들, 저는 여러분이 하나님께 기도하고 어떻게, 어디서, 언제에 대해 지혜를 구한다면, 여러분이 하나님의 증인이 될 수 있다고 제안합니다. 하나님께서는 반드시 여러분을 사용하시고 준비시키시고 영감을 주시고 비둘기같이 온유하고 뱀같이 지혜롭게 하여 언제 말을 참고 언제 접을지(도박꾼처럼!) 아시게 하실 것입니다.

신약성경에서 읽는 누가복음 11:14–22 말씀 중에서 몇 구절입니다.

“또 더러는 예수를 시험하여 하늘로부터 오는 표적을 구하니 예수께서 그들의 생각을 아시고 이르시되 스스로 분쟁하는 나라마다 황폐하여지며 스스로 분쟁하는 집은 무너지느니라 너희 말이 내가 바알세불을 힘입어 귀신을 쫓아낸다 하니 만일 사탄이 스스로 분쟁하면 그의 나라가 어떻게 서겠느냐 내가 바알세불을 힘입어 귀신을 쫓아내면 너희 아들들은 누구를 힘입어 쫓아내느냐 그러므로 그들이 너희 재판관이 되리라 그러나 내가 만일 하나님의 손을 힘입어 귀신을 쫓아낸다면 하나님의 나라가 이미 너희에게 임하였느니라 강한 자가 무장을 하고 자기 집을 지킬 때에는 그 소유가 안전하되 더 강한 자가 와서 그를 굴복시킬 때에는 그가 믿던 무장을 빼앗고 그의 재물을 나누느니라 나와 함께 하지 아니하는 자는 나를 반대하는 자요 나와 함께 모으지 아니하는 자는 헤치는 자니라” (누가복음 11:16-23)

우리 메시아 예슈아의 이 말씀은 참으로 진실됩니다. 전시 중인 이스라엘에 예슈아의 이 말씀보다 더 적절한 것은 없습니다. 이스라엘이 이 전쟁에서 경험하고 있는 많은 일과 가자지구에서 하마스와의 전쟁과 관련된 모든 일은 수년간 이스라엘 정부가 취한 행동(그리고 적절한 조치의 부족)의 직접적인 결과입니다. 지난 몇 년간 이스라엘 정부의 에너지, 초점, 의제는 살아남는 것이었습니다. 살아남기 위해 정부는 처음으로 정부에 입성한 급진적 소수의 야심 차고 뒤틀린 의제에 굴복했습니다. 군 복무 경험이 없는 사람들이 국가안보부 장관 같은 장관직을 맡았고, 주요 이사직을 맡아본 적이 없는 사람들이 재무장관과 국방장관이 되었습니다.

이스라엘에서 일어난, 잔인하고 나치 같은 적과의 이 끔찍한 전쟁을 촉발한 주요 원인은 이스라엘이 이 나라 국민들 간에 깊이 분열되어 있었기 때문입니다. 여러 달 동안 매일 밤 전국 여러 곳에서 시위가 벌어지기도 했습니다. 수십만 명의 시위자들이 일부는 정부를 반대하고 일부는 정부를 지지했습니다. 가자지구의 하마스와 북부의 헤즈볼라와의 전쟁으로 인해 급진적 소수의 야망에 대한 초점은 중단되었고, 이 나라는 다시 단결되고 국민들은 수년 전처럼 활기를 띠게 되었습니다. 슬프게도, 이스라엘의 화합을 이루는 데에는 양측의 인명 피해와 수천 명이 이 나라의 병원을 채우는 끔찍한 전쟁이 있고서였다는 것입니다.

기독교권은 우리 메시아 예슈아의 이 말씀을 진지하게 받아들이지 않으며, 유럽의 기독교는 거의 확실히 퇴보하고 있습니다. 제가 유럽의 기독교가 퇴보하고 있다고 말할 때, 저는 현실적이기보다는 낙관적인 것입니다. 제 생각에는 기독교는 대부분 이미 사라졌습니다. 통계에 따르면 서유럽 전체에서 교회에 출석하는 사람이 인구의 10%를 초과하는 국가는 단 하나도 없습니다. 대부분의 서유럽에서 정기적으로 교회에 참석하는 사람의 수는 인구의 약 3~4%입니다. 기독교에 무슨 일이 일어나고 있는지 자문해 보십시오. 지금 일어나고 있는 일은 매우 간단합니다: 개신교의 여러 종파와 가톨릭교회, 정교회 같은 종파 내부의 분열과 적대감입니다. 교회는 우리 주님과 사도들의 모든 명령에 노골적으로 불순종하고 있습니다. 우리 모두는 본문에 나오는 우리 주님의 말씀을 기억합시다: “스스로 분쟁하는 나라마다 황폐하여지며 스스로 분쟁하는 집은 무너지느니라. 사탄도 스스로 분쟁하면 그의 나라가 어떻게 서겠느냐?”

갈라디아서 5장의 육체의 일 목록은 분열과 불일치의 본질을 지닌 특징을 가지고 있습니다.

“육체의 일은 분명하니 곧 음행과 더러운 것과 호색과 우상 숭배와 주술과 원수 맺는 것과 분쟁과 시기와 분냄과 당 짓는 것과 분열함과 이단과 투기와 술 취함과 방탕함과 또 그와 같은 것들이라 전에 너희에게 경계한 것 같이 경계하노니 이런 일을 하는 자들은 하나님의 나라를 유업으로 받지 못할 것이요” (갈라디아서 5:19-21)

친애하는 형제자매님들, 복음주의 교회가 일치를 추구하며 불화와 이기적인 야망을 멈추라는 중대한 경각심을 불러일으키지 않는다면, 우리가 역사의 가장 어두운 장들과, 기독교 전체를 덮고 있던 하나님의 영이 떠나시는 것을 목격하게 될 수 있다는 것을 저는 두려워합니다.

사람들과 기관들과 교회들은 이 어둡고 잔인한 세상에서 메시아의 증인으로서 연합하고 함께 일할 수 있는 방법을 찾아야 합니다. 우리 이 세대가 이것을 해야 합니다.

이스라엘을 위해, 그리고 최전선에서 싸우는 모든 군인들을 위해, 특히 최전선에서 용감하게 싸우고 있는 믿음의 형제자매들을 위해 기도해 주시는 것을 잊지 마십시오. 또한 제 아내 마르시아의 건강과 저의 건강을 위해 기도해 주십시오.

여러분이 개인적으로 모르는 형제자매들을 위해 드리는 기도는 순전한 사랑이며 순전히 메시아의 몸을 세우는 것입니다. 여러분이 이기적인 이해 관계 없이 여러분이 모르지만 형제인 누군가를 위해 천국에서 투표를 하는 것이기에 이것은 진정한 아가페 사랑입니다. 그리고 하나님께서는 우리가 이 세상에서는 서로 모를지라도 우리를 함께 묶는 사랑과 믿음의 긴 사슬로 연결된 다른 사람을 위해 하는 이기적이지 않고 참된 사랑과 관심의 표현인 이 기도를 보고 계십니다. 우리가 천국에 가서 우리가 위해서 기도했던 사람들과, 때로는 육신적으로는 모르지만 영적으로는 언젠가 함께 앉아 “제가 당신이 치유되도록 기도한 것이 기억납니다!”, “제가 당신이 가자지구 하마스 테러리스트들의 손아귀에서 인질들을 구하기 위해 가자지구에서 싸울 때 당신이 안전하도록 기도한 것이 기억납니다!” 이야기 나누게 될 같은 그리스도의 몸의 지체이기에 위해서 부르짖었던 형제자매들을 만나게 된다면 얼마나 기쁠까요!

하마스와의 전쟁이 조속히 끝나고 모든 인질들이 안전하고 온전하게 그들의 사랑하는 가족에게로 돌아오도록 심각한 기도를 계속해 주십시오!

저희 병사들을 위해서, 특히 우리가 알고 귀히 여기는 병사들을 위해서 기도해 주십시오: 유다, 빅터와 아얄라의 아들 에마누엘, 아미엘·솔로몬·에제카이엘 인트레이터, 루우벤·클릴 코브너, 그 외 믿는 이들의 자녀들, 또한 이 나라를 위해 복무 중인 모든 남녀.

저는 아직 군복무 중이거나 대부분 예비군인 저희 회중의 자녀들이 맹목적인 증오가 원동력인 테러주의자들로부터 이스라엘 민간인들을 보호하기 위해 무기를 들고 전쟁에 나가 싸워야 하는 것이 정말 싫습니다.

중동과 세계를 위해 여기 이 지역에서 무엇이 사실인지 보고 알도록 기도해 주시기 바랍니다. 다윗왕과 선지자들과 메시아 예슈아를 내놓은 이 땅은 저희 이웃들과의 평화를 원합니다.

그러나 그들은 평화를 위해 내민 손을 외면합니다. 그들은 유대인들을 죽이고, 지금 번성하며 전 세계에 복이 되고 있는 이 땅을 빼앗아 가자지구와 아랍국가들에 있는 그들의 정착지들처럼 쓰레기장으로 만들고자 합니다.

하나님의 은혜와, 치유와 힘을 주시는 하나님의 부드러운 손길이 필요한 예루살렘의 다음 형제자매님들을 위해 기도해 주십시오.

98세이시며 기억력 문제로 고생하시고 계시는 귀한 일라나 아히저비 자매님.

우리의 귀한 레아 코르키 자매님을 위해 기도해 주시기 바랍니다.

예루살렘 태생의 88세가 넘으신 사리트 자매님은 혼자 살고 계십니다. 가까운 가족이 없고 여러 가지 노인 질환을 앓고 계십니다.

제 아내 마르시아 슐람을 위해 계속 기도해 주시기 바랍니다. 마르시아의 기억력이 더 이상 약해지지 않도록, 관절염이 나아 재발하지 않도록, 기력이 회복되어 스스로를 돌볼 수 있도록 기도해 주십시오.

또한 저와 제 가족과 하늘에 계신 우리 아버지로부터 치유와 은혜가 필요한 모든 아픈 이들과 필요가 있는 이들을 위해서도 기도해 주십시오!

We are getting deep into the book of Exodus this next Shabbat, January 13, 2024. The Torah reading is entering the exodus story, a story of deliverance from slavery to freedom. The emancipation of a nation from the clutches of one of the greatest empires in history. When Moses was an Egyptian prince, son of the daughter of the Great Pharaoh, Egypt ruled nearly one third of all of the African continent. The children of Jacob i.e. Israel were brought to Egypt by Joseph, a Hebrew slave boy who was falsely accused of sexual misconduct by the seductive mistress of the house of Potiphar the priest in the temple of On in Heliopolis, Cairo.

From being the chief servant in this Nobel Egyptian house, Joseph was sent to jail and we don’t know how long Joseph, the son of Jacob, served in the Egyptian jail. It was for sure not a short time. I know this because of a common prisoner in the jail with Joseph, a manager and executive. Events rolled forward in such a providential and divine path that through Joseph’s God-given gift for the interpretation of dreams he became the second in command over Egypt.
His brothers came down to Egypt to find food. Egypt was the breadbasket of the whole Middle East. The land of Canaan was occupied and made an Egyptian province in those days.

After many years of success, the children of Jacob/Israel disturbed the new Pharaoh, making him afraid that these Hebrew foreigners had become so numerous and so successful that they might turn against him and Egypt. Why do you think that this phenomenon is a refrain repeated in Israel’s history so many times? What is it in the DNA of the Hebrew nation that causes them to be successful and then some kind of demonic envy, a fit of jealousy causes other nations to fear and envy that success. This phenomenon has been repeated in history multiple times. Into the 20thCentury and even now with Hamas and Hezbollah as proxies of Iran (Persia.) This is the second time in history that Persia = Iran has set a goal for itself to delete the Jewish Nation from the face of the Earth.

I am sharing this short background with you to put the events of this war in Gaza and in the northern front with Hezbollah into a broader perspective of God’s divine plan and history. I write this background to help you pray with serious dedication and deep intercession for the nation of Israel and for the faithful standing with us, and with all of Israel in these crazy days of war.

Netivyah has 13 men on the front lines both in Gaza and in the North. The Lord has used Netivyah miraculously to provide much-needed tactical equipment for the front line and elite commando units of the Israeli army. This equipment is life-saving, but also a living witness that Jewish disciples of Yeshua in Israel and in the world stand with Israel and bless Israel’s military in these hours of woe and grief. We support every soldier and every victim of the Hamas demonic regime and attack on innocent civilians.

Please pray and support Netivyah with this war effort. It is a first-class blessing, with the most elementary equipment the Israeli government has neglected to supply. The most essential safety equipment for our men. This is an open door and opportunity the Lord of all has chosen and given Netivyah—the opportunity to shine a light in the utter darkness from the very pits of hell. Please stand with Israel and use Netivyah to bless our men in the battlefields both in Gaza and on the Lebanese border in the North.

You have the opportunity to pray with all seriousness and dedication and knock on God’s door for the sake of Israel and the protection of our soldiers on the front lines of these battlefields.

Now, a little more on the story of Exodus from our Torah reading on this Shabbat.

The Torah portion of this Shabbat is named VA'ERA, from EXODUS 6:2 – 9:35.
The portion from the prophets is from EZEKIEL 28:25 – 29:21.
From the New Testament, we will be reading from LUKE 11:14-22.

Since the story of the Exodus is familiar to most Jews and Christians, I would like for this Shabbat to concentrate on the reading from the prophets and from the New Testament. These words of the prophet are so relevant and important for these very days that we are living right now.

“Thus says the Lord GOD: ‘When I have gathered the house of Israel from the peoples among whom they are scattered and am hallowed in them in the sight of the Gentiles, then they will dwell in their own land which I gave to My servant Jacob. And they will dwell safely there, build houses, and plant vineyards; yes, they will dwell securely, when I execute judgments on all those around them who despise them. Then they shall know that I am the LORD their God.” (Ezekiel 28:25-26 NKJV)

Please notice the words of God through Ezekiel the prophet:
1. The time delimited by the words of the prophet: The time is when God is gathering the house of Israel from the nations where God Himself has scattered them, and other nations will hallow this. When Israel is restored to their land God Himself will be hallowed by the nations.
2. The children of Jacob i.e. Israel will swell in the land safely and securely.
3. God will execute judgment on the nations around Israel and these nations will know that God is the Lord and also the God of these nations.

In this reading of Ezekiel chapter 29:1-21, God is telling Ezekiel who is living in the diaspora in Babylon. God is revealing to Ezekiel that He will deal His righteousness with Egypt. Ancient Egypt is the model and evolution of ancient Rome and today’s West. I fear that the description of God’s revelation to Ezekiel the prophet is making me personally very fearful. Empires are born and they die, and we witness such processes, not only in ancient history but now in front of our own eyes every time that we watch international television. The moral breakdown, the political corruption, and the increasing antisemitism. The even greater increase in everything that the Word of God calls abomination.

What can we do, the little people, the simple disciples of Yeshua in this vast ocean of worldliness?
1. Pray and keep praying and interceding for our nations, and for the nation of Israel. We are still under the blessing that God gave Abraham our father: “I will bless those who bless you and curse those who curse you!”
2. Live our lives like a modern billboard! Become witnesses like the prophet Isaiah predicted and commissioned us as God’s children in this world: Here are the words of Isaiah the prophet who in God’s name commissioned us, Israel, and all those of every nation who are called by God’s name.

“Let all the nations be gathered together, and let the people be assembled. Who among them can declare this, and show us former things? Let them bring out their witnesses, that they may be justified; Or let them hear and say, “It is truth.” “You are My witnesses,” says the Lord, “And My servant whom I have chosen, that you may know and believe Me, and understand that I am He. Before Me there was no God formed, nor shall there be after Me. I, even I, am the Lord, and besides Me there is no savior. I have declared and saved, I have proclaimed, and there was no foreign god among you; Therefore, you are My witnesses,” Says the Lord, “that I am God.” (Isaiah 43:9-12 NKJV)

I know how most of us all feel about being witnesses to God’s King and Kingdom. We feel that this is a job for professionals, preachers, pastors, and church leaders. Speaking about God and the Word of God is just not considered cool these days. But dear brothers, I propose to you that if you pray and ask God for wisdom: HOW, WHERE, and WHEN, you can become a witness of God. God will for sure use you and equip you and inspire you and will make you gentle like a dove and smart like a snake, knowing when to hold your words and when to fold them (i.e. The Gambler!)

A few words related to our reading from the Gospel of Luke 11:14 – 22.

“Others, testing Him, sought from Him a sign from heaven. But He, knowing their thoughts, said to them: “Every kingdom divided against itself is brought to desolation, and a house divided against a house falls. If Satan is also divided against himself, how will his kingdom stand? Because you say I cast out demons by Beelzebub. And if I cast out demons by Beelzebub, by whom do your sons cast them out? Therefore, they will be your judges. But if I cast out demons with the finger of God, surely the kingdom of God has come upon you. When a strong man, fully armed, guards his own palace, his goods are in peace. But when a stronger than he comes upon him and overcomes him, he takes from him all his armor in which he trusted and divides his spoils. He who is not with Me is against Me, and he who does not gather with Me scatters.” (Luke 11:16-23 NKJV)

These words of Yeshua our Messiah are so true. In Israel during this wartime, there is nothing more pertinent than these words of Yeshua. Much of what Israel is experiencing in this war and all the things related to this war with Hamas in Gaza are a direct result of the actions (and lack of proper action) of the Israeli government for years. The energy, focus, and agenda of the Israeli government in the last years has been to survive. To survive, the government gave into the ambitious and twisted agenda of a radical minority that entered into the government for the first time. People who never served in the military received ministerial posts as ministers of national security. People who never served in any major directorial position became ministers of finance and also ministers of defense.

The major contribution to what happened in Israel, that precipitated this horrible war with a cruel and Nazi-like enemy, was because Israel has been deeply divided inside the population of this country. There were months where every night in several locations in the country there were demonstrations. Hundreds of thousands of demonstrators, some siding against the government and some siding for the government. This war with Hamas in Gaza and with Hezbollah in the north has stopped the focus on the minority ambitions, and refocused this nation into unity, galvanizing the population of this country like it was many years ago. Sadly, it takes a horrible war with human casualties on both sides and many thousands that are filling the hospitals in this country to produce unity in Israel.

The Christian world has not taken these words of Yeshua our Messiah seriously, and Christianity in Europe is almost certainly on its way out. When I say that Christianity in Europe is on its way out, I am more optimistic than realistic. In my opinion, Christianity is mostly already out. The statistics show in all of Western Europe there is not one country that exceeds 10% of the population that attends any church. In most of Western Europe, the number of people attending church regularly is around 3 – 4%. Ask yourself what is happening with Christianity. What is happening is very simple: Division and enmity between different denominations of Protestant Christianity and inside denominations like the Catholic Church and the Orthodox Church. The church is in blatant disobedience to every commandment of our Lord and the Apostles. Let us all just remember the words of our Lord in this text: “Every kingdom divided against itself is brought to desolation, and a house divided against a house falls. If Satan also is divided against himself, how will his kingdom stand?”

The list of the works of the flesh from Galatians 5 has characteristics that have the essence of division and disunity.

“The acts of the flesh are obvious: sexual immorality, impurity and debauchery; idolatry and witchcraft; hatred, discord, jealousy, fits of rage, selfish ambition, dissensions, factions and envy; drunkenness, orgies, and the like. I warn you, as I did before, that those who live like this will not inherit the kingdom of God.” (Galatians 5:19-21 NIV)

Dear Brothers and sisters, I fear that if there is no major wake-up call for evangelical churches to seek unity and cease with dissensions and selfish ambitions we will witness the darkest chapters of history and the removal of God’s Spirit from the covering of Christianity as a whole.

People, institutions, and churches must look for ways to unite and work together as witnesses of the Messiah in this dark and cruel world. We, this generation, must do this.

Please don’t forget to pray for Israel and for all our soldiers on the front line of battle, especially those brothers and sisters in the faith who are bravely fighting on the front lines. Also pray for my wife, Marcia’s health, and my health.

On Sunday, January 14th (9am to 3pm israel time), I will have a biopsy taken from my lungs. Please pray that the results are negative and there is no malignancy found. Joseph Shulam

Your prayers for brothers and sisters whom you don’t know personally is a pure love and pure building of the Body of the Messiah. It is really Agape Love since you are doing this without any selfish interests and casting a vote in heaven for someone who is your brother but you don’t know him or her, and God looks at these prayers that are unselfish and true expression of love and care for another link in the long chain of love and faith that binds us together even though we might not know each other in this world. When we all get to heaven what a joy it will be to meet people that we prayed for and sometime even cried for brothers and sisters who are physically strangers, but spiritually a part of the same body of Christ that one day we will have the privilege to seat together and share: “I remember praying for you to be healed!” “I remember praying for you to be safe when you were fighting in Gaza to free the hostages from the cruel hands of the terrorists of the Hamas in Gaza.

Continue serious prayers for our war with Hamas to end soon and all the hostages to be returned safe and in one piece home to their loved ones!

Pray for our soldiers and especially for the soldiers that we know and appreciate: Yuda, Emanuel the son of Victor and Ayala, Amiel and Solomon and Ezekiel Intrater, Reuven and Clil Kovner, and any other children of Believers and of course for all of the men and women serving this country.

I hate that our boys, the men of our congregation, still serve in the Army and most of them in reserves have to fight and use weapons and do war to protect the civilian population of Israel from terrorism driven by hate and blindness.

Please pray for the Middle East and for the world to see and understand what the reality is here in this part of the world. The lands that provided King David, the prophets, and Yeshua the Messiah – want peace with our neighbors.

But they don’t want the hand that is stretched out in peace. They want to kill all the Jews and take their land, which is flourishing and a blessing for all the world, and make it a dump like their own place in Gaza and in the Arab countries.

In Jerusalem pray for the following brothers and sisters who need divine grace and the gentle touch of the hand of God for healing and strength.

Ilana Ahijervie, a dear sister who is 98 years old and suffering from memory problems.

Please pray for our dear sister Lea Kurkey.

Sarit, a sister born in Jerusalem, over 88 years old, lives alone. Has no close family, and suffers from several old-age illnesses.

Please keep praying for Marcia Shulam my wife. Pray that Marcia’s memory will stop weakening, and that her arthritis be healed and stop being active, and her strength to return to where she can take more care of herself.

Also ask prayer for me and my family and for all the sick and needing healing and grace from our Heavenly Father!

Your prayers for Alexander and Sarah, and Andrew, who were raised as believers and have left their faith behind, have been answered, the Divine Shepherd guided these members of the same family gently back to the fold, please keep praying for their general and spiritual welfare!

Pray for Adam’s father and mother, Barry and Dalia. They too have some health problems and challenges.

Pray for Miriam and for Hannah, her daughter. Miriam is a dear sister and has lost her husband recently.

Pray for Daniel S. and his children.

Our dear leader in the Ro’eh Israel congregation, Gary, and his health, and for his wife Melanie and their family.

Pray for Um Mahmud Abu-Eid and Jimmy Abu-Eid and all of the family. This is a dear family of old friends that needs healing and wisdom for the children and for their work.

Please pray for the Romero family who live deep in the Negev desert. It is hot there and they are far from our congregation and we miss them.

Please pray for Shannon’s father, Michael McGoff, Michael had heart surgery and we need to pray for his full recovery.

Pray for brothers and sisters in the U.K.

We bless our dear sister Celestine with health and blessings from Heaven for her life and her family. We pray for the Lord to be her comfort and provide sister Celestine with all her physical spiritual and social needs with His grace.

Pray for Deborah Isaiah. I pray for the Lord to find Deborah Isaiah and lead her to a blessed life and family and a solution to her problems.

Pray for our dear brother Dennis D’Costa and his family, as they find their way and have a clear vision of what and where God wants them to live and serve and grow their family. Lord open the right doors for Dennis D’Costa and his family.

Australia

A dear friend from Hong Kong, Bonnie, asked that we pray for her brother who lives in Australia. Bonnie’s brother’s name is Ray Chen. Please mention the name Ray Chen and ask God to show this man the grace of God and God’s powerful healing of body and soul and restoration of faith and life of holiness and sanctity.

In Finland we have some precious and dear brothers and sisters that need our prayers:

Pray Mauno Lemponen, he has been diagnosed with cancer in advanced stages. We are asking for Gods Will to be done giving him healthy days with family. Prayers for Hilka, Miika and Ester who are supporting each other.

Pray for Keijo and Salme, our dear partners and fellow workers in God’s flock. Both Keijo and Salme have some challenging heart issues.

Sipra, our dear sister in Nokia who is a widow with some health issues.

Satu-Maria, Sinni Tuuli, Anne Mirjami, our dear sisters, and all our other brothers and sisters in Finland who need our prayers: Eva H., Patty, Andrea, Julia and Victor, and Aaron Tani, and Hillel.

Please don’t forget to pray for the health of Kari Antilles in Finland. He is a dear brother and supporter in prayer for Netivyah for many years.

Brazil

Pray for the congregations related to Netivyah in Brazil, to have the strength and stamina to face the challenges in front of them with courage and strength of faithfulness to the Lord, and to the vision of the restoration of the church and Israel.

Pray for the millions of victims of the Spanish and Portuguese Inquisition who have been forced to convert to the Catholic church, and now want to return home to the land of Israel and to the faith of our fathers.

Pray for the state of Israel to open the doors for these lost Jews to be able to return and fulfill God’s promises to the prophet Ovadyah:

“But on Mount Zion there shall be deliverance, And there shall be holiness; The house of Jacob shall possess their possessions. The house of Jacob shall be a fire, And the house of Joseph a flame; But the house of Esau shall be stubble; They shall kindle them and devour them, And no survivor shall remain of the house of Esau, For the Lord has spoken. The South shall possess the mountains of Esau, And the Lowland shall possess Philistia. They shall possess the fields of Ephraim And the fields of Samaria. Benjamin shall possess Gilead. And the captives of this host of the children of Israel Shall possess the land of the Canaanites As far as Zarephath. The captives of Jerusalem who are in Sepharad Shall possess the cities of the South. Then saviors shall come to Mount Zion To judge the mountains of Esau, And the kingdom shall be the Lord’s.” — Obadiah 1:17-21 [NKJV]

Pray for a dear young man, Paulo, from Curitiba, Brazil, who seriously needs our prayers for sanity and mental health.

Pray for Rita Sassai, from Vitória, ES.

Please pray for a dear sister with the name: Claudia Rita Souze Arau. She has cancer and needs God’s healing hands to touch her with healing.

Fatima Maria Docarmo Guimararaes - pray for her health and her granddaughters twin babies.

Pray for Livia Schnell Nothen, she has some issues with her physical health and a growth in her adrenal gland. And other health issues.

Guilherme Antonio Nothen Becker is suffering from back problems. Aratuza de Oliveira his wife. Pray for this 3-year-old child that has serious problems with his eyes and ask the Lord to give healing to his eyes. This child’s name is Caique de Oliveira Becker.

Please pray for Bruno Henrique Cardoso jr. for his studies and his health.

A 70-year-old Pastor Paulo C. Pereira Braga Dias is the father of a dear sister in Brazil, and suffers from diabetes.

Pray for Roberto Morias, a dear brother who is going through heart surgery and an angiogram.

In Asia we have several brothers and sisters who need our prayers.

Please pray for a dear 71-year-old sister called Bee Kim. She lost consciousness on February 26, 2023. She has not regained her consciousness after a massive stroke.

Pray for pastor T.J. in Taiwan.

Pray for Deborah Ruth a dear sister from China.

Pray for sister Reiko Ishiida and Elder Takeo and his wife Tomoko from Tokyo, Dr. Yuizawa, and Pastor Yushida and his family.

Pray for Sister Yoko Nagumo in Japan.

In India, Pastor Isaac, from Chennai, needs our prayers. Pastor Isaac is suffering from kidney problems and has to have dialysis several times per week.

Tony Tam and his wife Luisa and son Marco need special prayer for their situation.

We continue to pray for Zhou Wenrian, Abe family, Toru San, Yumi Ohara and her family. Deborah Ruth, Ayla and Daniel and their daughter. Dr. Song, and his wife Sister Harriet Kim.

Please pray for Ruby K. from Hong Kong. Ruby has gone through a very complicated surgery for multiple cancers in her body. The surgery was very long, and Ruby is back home now recovering. Please lift Ruby K. and ask the Lord to heal and deliver Ruby from Hong Kong.

Pray for family and friends and dear brothers and sisters in the United States of America.

new Ray Jimenez from California is batteling leukemia. Pray for god to sustain him and his time with the family.

new Troy Jr. is in the hospital in Roanoke VA. This is one of Beths uncles. pray for the doctors to identify the ailments that are causing his health to fail. So far they have conerns of pneumonia and liver damage.

new Sunday Jan 14th Joe Shulam will be having a series of test and biopsy. he will be at the hospital from 9am (GMT+2) to 3pm (GMT+2) [israel time] We are praying for good news.

new Rabbi Levy had a Stroke is in Dallas, please pray for doctors and his recovery.

Please continue to pray for the daughter of Bill Colwell, who is very sick with cancer. She is receiving a second round of treatment. Please pray for success and healing.

Jonathan Bernis is in a long six month recovery from a liver transplant. We thank God for this match. Please pray for this new liver to function and provide much needed function. Please pray for Elisangela and the girls and also for the doctors and nurses that are attending our dear brother Jonathan Bernis.

Andrew Huffines, he has complications from long term covid.

Please pray for my family in the United States: Barry my son and his wife Beth, and for Joey my grandson. Pray for their divine protection and health.

Pray for Danah my daughter's health issues. I pray for the Lord to give Danah wisdom and peace and calm in life and in her work.

Pray for Noaam my granddaughter. She is working two jobs now and needs good health and wisdom to make the right choices and plans for life, education, immigration to Israel, and just general protection from all harm.

Pray for David Young the preacher in Murfreesboro, Tennessee, who is back to preaching after recovering from medical issues. Please keep David in your prayers.

Aaron Hook, Nancy Hook’s oldest son, needs our prayers for wisdom and healing from past issues of life.

Lift for blessing and healing Jonathan B. and his wife Aviva and their new baby, his mother, and his brother Daniel. Pray for these very important men of God: Rabbi Salt, his family, and Rabbi Hasselblad. They are both older and need protection and blessings.

Also, pray for Ilana Avramov who is married to my cousin Nissim and lives in New York City. Ilana has fallen and in now in rehab learning how to walk again. We pray for her full recovery. She and Nissim both need our prayers.

Steve Mock - His cognitive condition has declined, and we ask for the grace of God and His Healing and strength. Steve and Josie’s son Joseph - named after Joseph Shulam – has received a wonderful and glorious report. After the last bone marrow transplant the report is that the doctors didn’t find any leukemia his body! Praise the Lord!

Pray for three women of God in Canada who need healing, Lynda, Sandy and Joanne.

I am asking a special prayer for a dear brother and friend who is now doing a greatly important work in a very dangerous and precarious part of the world. Just mention DadyLion in your prayers, and ask for divine protection and angelic accompaniment for this man of God.
