예루살렘 기도 목록 – 2021년 8월 26일

우리는 5782년 티슈리월 첫째 날, 유대민간력 새해인 로쉬 하샤나에 가까워지고 있습니다! 이스라엘에서는 코로나바이러스에도 불구하고, 거의 한 달이나 되는, 유대교에서 “큰 명절들”이라고 부르는 절기들에 들어가기 위해 총력을 다하고 있습니다. 금년에는 로쉬 하샤나가 2021년 9월 7일에 떨어지는데요, 이 로쉬 하샤나로 시작되어 9월 말에 가까워져서야 끝나는 일련의 세 절기가 있습니다.
히브리 달력 변경은 주전 4세기 바벨론 유수 70년 동안에 일어났습니다. 에스라와 느헤미야가 유배생활에서 예루살렘으로 돌아올 때, 그들은 바벨론 달력을 같이 가져왔습니다. 성경 달력(종교력)상 새해는 첫째 달 첫째 날인데요, (태양력으로는) 3월이나 4월쯤입니다. 주전 586년 예루살렘 및 이스라엘 멸망 이후 예루살렘 재건과 유다왕국 회복을 위해 바벨론에서 돌아온 사람들은 바벨론 달력을 같이 가져왔습니다. 그래서 저희 달력이 바뀌어 열두 달의 명칭도 바뀌고 저희 새해도 바뀌었습니다. 이스라엘은 왜 이것을 예전의 달력으로 다시 바꾸지 않았을까요? 일곱 번째 달인 티슈리월 첫째 날은 이미 중동 이교 민족들 사이에 바벨론부터 이스라엘 땅까지 명절이었습니다. 이교 명절도 이 날이었는데요, 가장 유명한 이교 가나안의 신 바알의 부활을 경축하는 날이었습니다. 바알은 왜 매년 부활했을까요? 매년 바알이 죽으면, 그의 어머니 아세라가 일곱째 달 첫 날에 하데스(지옥)로 내려가 그의 아들을 다시 살아나게 했습니다. 바알은 겨울, 비, 천둥, 폭풍의 신이었습니다. 중동에서는 봄과 여름이 오면 바알이 죽었다가, 9월이나 10월 초에 우기가 시작되면 그의 어머니가 지옥에 내려가 그를 다시 살려낸다고 믿었습니다. 그러면, 이스라엘은 일곱째 달 첫째 날에 무엇을 경축하는 것일까요? 토라 본문은 이렇습니다: “이스라엘 자손에게 말하여 이르라 일곱째 달 곧 그 달 첫 날은 너희에게 쉬는 날이 될지니 이는 나팔을 불어 기념할 날이요 성회라.” – 레위기 23:24 문제는, 하나님께서 왜 이 날짜를 특별한 거룩한 성회로 지정하시고 나팔을 불게 하셨는가? 입니다. 제 생각에, 그 이유는 이 날 바알이 부활하는 것과 연관되어 있습니다. 나팔을 부는 것은 전쟁의 신호이자 호출입니다: “또 너희 땅에서 너희가 자기를 압박하는 대적을 치러 나갈 때에는 나팔을 크게 불지니 그리하면 너희 하나님 여호와가 너희를 기억하고 너희를 너희의 대적에게서 구원하시리라.” – 민수기 10:9 회개의 계절이자 곡식과 과일과 채소와 포도주로 곳간을 다시 쟁여둠을 축하하는 절기인 숙콧(초막절)은, 이스라엘 사람들에게도 아주 일반적이어서 하나님의 선지자들에 의해 끊임없이 정죄 받아야 했던 바알숭배에 대한 전쟁 선포로 시작됩니다. 며칠 안 있으면 온 이스라엘은, 저희도, 로쉬 하샤나를 시작으로 큰 명절을 지키게 됩니다. 저희는 코로나바이러스 상황 하에서 각자 집에서 몇 사람이 모일 수 있는지 제한을 받으며 유대인들과 유대인의 친구들과 함께 절기를 지킬 것입니다. 금년도 작년처럼, 저희가 회개와 영혼의 성찰의 달과 속죄일과 숙콧 이레까지 이 절기들을 지키는 것은 예전의 다른 해들과 다를 것입니다. 저는 여러분 모두께 다음 달 우리가 살고 있는 세계를 위해 기도해 주시기를 부탁드리고 싶습니다. 우리는 주님께 기도하며 찾고 우리 죄와 각자의 나라와 교회와 회당의 죄를 자백하고 하나님께 그분의 세계에 대한 긍휼과 은혜를 베풀어주시기를 구해야 합니다. 우리는 성경에서 하나님께서 전염병들을 그치게 하셨던 것처럼 이 전염병을 그치게 하시기를 하나님께 간구해야 합니다. 모든 전염병과 노아의 홍수는 하나님으로부터 왔고 하나님께서 그치게 하셨습니다. 백신이 새로운 변이 발생을 막는 것 같아 보이지 않습니다. 코로나바이러스의 변형이 불쑥 생겨 백신 효과를 떨어뜨립니다. 하나님께서는 이 전염병을 그치게 하실 수 있으십니다! 이 회개의 날들에 온 이스라엘과 함께 주님을 찾으며 그분의 세계에 대한 긍휼과 은혜를 베풀어주시기를 간구합시다. 이번 안식일 토라 포션은 신명기 26:1~29:8이며, 선지서에서는 이사야에서 아주 중요한 60:1-22을 읽고, 신약성경에서는 마태복음 4:13-24을 읽습니다. 제가 전 세계 제 형제자매님들이 매주 이스라엘과 함께 토라 포션을 읽는 것이 얼마나 중요한지 아무리 강조하더라도 충분치 않을 것입니다. 제가 이 단순하고 아주 유익한 행동을 어떻게 보는지 나누도록 하겠습니다. 이것은 여러분과 여러분의 가족을 위해서도 큰 그림을 위해서도 아주 단순하고 아주 중요합니다. 안식일마다 동일한 토라 및 선지서 포션을 유대인들과 함께 읽음으로써 여러분은 경기장에서 이스라엘과 같은 팀에 합류하여 하나님의 백성과 같은 색의 티-셔츠를 입고 하나님의 팀을 응원하는 것입니다. 네, 이것은 단지 상징과 표일 뿐이지만, 여러분에게 복이 되고 하나님의 말씀을 읽는 것에서 여러분에게 정보를 주는 표입니다. 이것은 교회에 가서는 얻지 못할 것인데요, 그 이유는 설교 및 가르침은, 비록 훌륭하더라도 유기농이 아닌 통조림으로, 좋기는 하지만 여러분 개인의 것이 아니기 때문입니다. 직접 하나님의 말씀을 읽으면 그것이 여러분의 것, 신선하고 체계적인 것이 됩니다. 신명기 26장은 우리에게 아주 특별하고 독특한 것을 줍니다. 이 장은 우리에게 유월절 이후 50일 째 되는 날, 봄 추수가 시작된 후인 샤브옷(오순절)에 예배자가 첫 소산물 광주리를 성전에 가져와 제사장에게 말하는 내용을 알려줍니다. 저는 사람이 주님의 집에 그의 헌물을 가져와 말하는 말을 읽고 듣는 이것이 매력적이라고 생각합니다. 다음 구절은 짧지만 중요한 분석입니다: “그 때의 제사장에게 나아가 그에게 이르기를 내가 오늘 당신의 하나님 여호와께 아뢰나이다 내가 여호와께서 우리에게 주시겠다고 우리 조상들에게 맹세하신 땅에 이르렀나이다 할 것이요 제사장은 네 손에서 그 광주리를 받아서 네 하나님 여호와의 제단 앞에 놓을 것이며 너는 또 네 하나님 여호와 앞에 아뢰기를 내 조상은 방랑하는 아람 사람으로서 애굽에 내려가 거기에서 소수로 거류하였더니 거기에서 크고 강하고 번성한 민족이 되었는데 애굽 사람이 우리를 학대하며 우리를 괴롭히며 우리에게 중노동을 시키므로 우리가 우리 조상의 하나님 여호와께 부르짖었더니 여호와께서 우리 음성을 들으시고 우리의 고통과 신고와 압제를 보시고 여호와께서 강한 손과 편 팔과 큰 위엄과 이적과 기사로 우리를 애굽에서 인도하여 내시고 이곳으로 인도하사 이 땅 곧 젖과 꿀이 흐르는 땅을 주셨나이다 여호와여 이제 내가 주께서 내게 주신 토지 소산의 맏물을 가져왔나이다 하고 너는 그것을 네 하나님 여호와 앞에 두고 네 하나님 여호와 앞에 경배할 것이며 네 하나님 여호와께서 너와 네 집에 주신 모든 복으로 말미암아 너는 레위인과 너희 가운데에 거류하는 객과 함께 즐거워할지니라.” – 신명기 26:3-11 예배자가 헌물이자 주님의 공급과 축복에 대한 감사의 표시로 가장 좋은 첫 소산물을 가져올 때 제사장에게 말하는 이 말에서 우리가 배울 수 있는 아주 특별한 것들은 이렇습니다. 첫째, 내가 살고 있는 곳은 하나님께서 내게 주신 것입니다! 여러분이 하나님의 선한 지구상의 어느 곳에서 살든, 그것이 대저택이든 슬럼가나 숲속의 작은 단칸방이든 하나님께서 주신 것입니다. 여러분은 하나님의 지구, 그분의 부동산에서 살며 다니며 기동하는 것입니다. 이 지구상에서 걸어 다니는 여러분과 저와 모든 사람은 그 어느 것도, 심지어 우리 유골을 묻을 두 평 무덤조차 우리 소유가 없습니다. 여러분이 이것을 깨달을 때, 즉 우리가 가진 모든 것, 우리 소유물 전부가 그저 한 동안 쓰도록 우리에게 주어진 것이며, 우리가 가진 모든 것과 우리의 전 존재가 하나님으로부터 온 것임을 깨달을 때, 그 깨달음은 우리를 훨씬 더 겸손하게 만들 것입니다. “내 조상은 방랑하는 아람(시리아) 사람이었다” – 그는 우리 조상 아브라함을 말하는 것입니다. 그 예배자는 지금 주님께 첫 소산물 광주리를 가지고 와서 나는 사실 “아무 것도 아닙니다.” 나의 혈통은 아무 것도 아니라고 말하고 있는 것입니다. 저는 평생 주님의 지구를 몇 차례 일주했고, 아주 부유한 사람들도 만나봤는데요, 그들 대부분은 겸손하고 단순하고 마음이 후한 형제자매님들이었습니다. 그러나 매번 아주 빈번히 아주 부유하고 후하기는 하지만 정신적으로 정서적으로 “왕이 된 노예”와 같은 사람들도 만났습니다. 그들은 너무 거만하고, 여러분이 그들이 거만하다는 것을 알기를 원합니다. 이런 사람들은 여러분에게 수표를 건네주기 전에 여러분에게서 바로 그 시간 그 장소에서 그들의 후함에 대한 찬사를 받고 싶어 합니다. 막 곡식을 거두어 곳간을 풍성히 채우고 통들마다 새 포도주로 가득채운 사람의 이 말은 다윗왕도 그의 마지막 기도에 한 말을 통해 잘 알고 있었음을 알 수 있습니다: “나와 내 백성이 무엇이기에 이처럼 즐거운 마음으로 드릴 힘이 있었나이까 모든 것이 주께로 말미암았사오니 우리가 주의 손에서 받은 것으로 주께 드렸을 뿐이니이다 우리는 우리 조상들과 같이 주님 앞에서 이방 나그네와 거류민들이라 …” – 역대상 29:14,15 다윗이 하나님의 집 건축을 위해 헌납한 물품의 긴 목록과 그의 아들 솔로몬이 예루살렘에 지을 성전을 위한 금과 다른 재료들을 준비한 다음, 그가 한 말을 주의해 보십시오. 다윗의 마지막 기도에서 그가 한 말은 이번 주 토라 포션 신명기 26장의 이 구절과 너무도 유사합니다. 우리 모두가 다윗왕처럼 알고 고백하고 겸손히 행동해야 하는 이유는 우리 존재의 모든 것과 우리가 하나님께 드릴 수 있는 모든 것이 이미 하나님의 것으로부터 왔기 때문입니다. 육신적으로 받은 것과 영적 은사도 마찬가지입니다. 겸손은 지도자들, 랍비, 목사, 정치가, 부자들에게 필요하고 마땅히 가장 값어치 있는 것으로서 필사적으로 필요로 하고 얻기를 추구해야 하는 가장 요긴한 요소 중 하나입니다. 우리 모두는 우리 존재의 모든 것 대부분을 사용하여 겸손과 단순함을 사야 합니다. 결국 우리가 가진 모든 것과 우리가 내어준 모든 것은 단순함과 겸손과 후함으로 은밀히 내어주지 않는다면 쓸모없게 될 것이기 때문입니다. 그렇습니다, 은밀함도 우리의 영적 복지에 아주 요긴하고, 심판날에 하나님께서 요구하실 요소입니다.
아프가니스탄에 남겨져 탈레반의 수중에 놓인 기독교인 형제자매님들을 위해 기도합시다. 이들 형제자매님들은 목숨이 진짜 위험한 상황에 있습니다.
그들은 메시아를 믿는 믿음을 버리도록 강요도 받는데요, 그렇지 않으면 그들의 목숨과 그들의 자녀와 가족의 목숨을 잃을 위험에 처해있기 때문입니다. 민주주의 자유세계에 살고 있는 우리는 과격하고 잔인한 이슬람 테러리스트의 손아귀에 빠진 우리 형제자매들을 잊어서는 안 됩니다.

우리는 모두 주님께서 이 전염병을 멈춰주시도록 기도해야 하는데요, 우선 무엇보다 하나님과 그분의 율법과 규례를 아는 유대인과 기독교인들이 기도하고 회개하고 주님을 구하고 긍휼을 간구하며, 우리가 성경에서 읽는 다른 모든 전염병에 대해 주님께서 하셨던 것처럼 이 전염병을 멈춰주시기를 구해야 합니다.
주님께서 그렇게 하실 수 있으시니, 우리는 하나님께 그분의 세상에 대한 긍휼을 베풀어주시도록 중보하며 간구해야 합니다. 이런 일은 오직 기독교인들과 유대인들의 지도자들이 죄를 고백하고 회개할 때에만 일어날 수 있습니다.
유대인들에게 이 일이 속죄일, 욤 키푸르 어간에 있을지도 모르겠습니다. 이 날이 목전에 다가왔습니다. 유대인들의 매우 높은 비율이 금식하며 이 금식일을 지키며 죄를 고백하고 회개합니다.
아주 힘든 이 때에 네티비야를 위해, 이스라엘 사람들에게 선을 행하며 그들을 축복하고 먹이고 지지해줄 기회를 위해 기도하고 후원해 주십시오. 이스라엘에서 이 어려운 시절에 어려움에 처한 이들의 수가 몇 배로 늘었습니다.
네티비야는 시간과 돈이 드는 많은 일과 도전들과, 하나님께서 네티비야 앞에 두시는 필요들과 기회들을 감당할 수 있는 스텝이 더 필요합니다.
코로나바이러스가 전 세계적으로, 그리고 이스라엘에서도 다시 창궐하면서 새로운 봉쇄 위협이 생기고 있기에 이스라엘은 더 기도가 필요하고 네티비야도 여러분의 기도와 후원이 필요합니다. 저희는 예슈아의 유대인 및 아랍인 제자들이 대학교에서 수학할 수 있게 하는 장학금을 줄이지 않으려고 최선을 다하고 있습니다. 저희는 저희 차세대 제자들의 기준을 세우는 것이 최우선이라고 믿습니다.

그러니, 우리 각자 나라의 원수와 우리 개인의 원수를 위해 기도하는 것도 잊지 마시고, 그들이 회개를 하고 태도를 바꿔 하나님께로 돌이켜 예슈아 안에서 하나님의 은혜를 받도록 축복하십시오. 우리는 모두 회개하고 하나님의 세계에서 악을 행하는 것을 그치고자 하지 않는 자들에게 어떤 일이 일어나는지 압니다. 이런 사람들의 모든 상태에 대한 치료책이 하나 있는데, 영원한 치유책입니다!
그러니, 혹시 있다면 여러분 개인의 원수를 위해, 특별히 이란이나 가자지구 하마스나 가자지구 및 레바논의 헤즈볼라 같은 이스라엘의 원수들이며 테러 국가인 자들을 위해 기도해 주십시오. 이것이 중요한 이유는 여러분이 이들 원수들의 선을 위해 기도할 때 여러분이 사실은 그들 머리에 달군 숯불을 쌓는 것이기 때문입니다. (로마서 12장 끝부분 참조.)

The Jerusalem Prayer List – August 26, 2021

We are approaching the 1st of the Month of Tishrei and the year 5782, that is the Jewish traditional New Year, Rosh Hashanah! Despite the coronavirus all in Israel is being geared up for the entrance of nearly a month of what is called in Judaism, “The High Holidays.” There is a set of three holydays that start with Rosh Hashanah, that falls this year on September 7th, 2021 and ends close to the end of September.
The changes in the Hebrew calendar took place during the 70 years of the Babylonian Exile in the 4th century B.C.E. When Ezra and Nehemiah returned from exile, back to Jerusalem, they brought with them the Babylonian calendar. The Biblical calendar New Year had been on the first day of the first month, which was around the month of March or April. Those returning from Babylon to rebuild Jerusalem and restore the kingdom of Judea after the destruction of Jerusalem and Israel in 586 B.C.E., brought with them the Babylonian calendar. So our calendar changed, and the names of the months changed, and our New Year changed. Why did Israel not change it back to the old calendar? The first day of the seventh month, Tishrei, was already a holiday in the Middle East among the pagans, from Babylon to the land of Israel. The pagan holiday was on the same date, and it was a celebration of the resurrection of the most popular pagan Canaanite god, Baal. Why was Baal resurrected every year? Because Baal died every year and his mother, Asherah went down to Hades (Hell) on the first day of the seventh month, to bring her son back to life. Baal was the god of winter, rain, thunder, and storm. And when spring and summer came in the Middle East, Baal died, and when the rainy season starts in September or early October, his mother goes down to bring him back to life. So, what did Israel celebrate on the first day of the seventh month. Here is the text from the Torah: “Speak to the children of Israel, saying: ‘In the seventh month, on the first day of the month, you shall have a sabbath-rest, a memorial of blowing of trumpets, a holy convocation.’” – Leviticus 23,24 [NKJV] The question is, why did God appoint a special holy convocation and the blowing of the trumpets on this date, the first day of the seventh month? The reason, in my opinion, is connected to the resurrection of Baal on this date. Blowing the trumpet is a sign and a call for war: “When you go to war in your land against the enemy who oppresses you, then you shall sound an alarm with the trumpets, and you will be remembered before the Lord your God, and you will be saved from your enemies.” – Numbers 10:9 [NKJV] The season of repentance and the celebration for the restocking of the storehouses, with the grain, the fruit, the vegetables, and the wine in the Feast of Sukkot (Tabernacles) starts with a declaration of war against Baalism that was so popular even among the Israelites, and had to be constantly condemned by the prophets of God in Israel. In just a few days, all of Israel, and we too, will be celebrating the High Holidays, starting with Rosh Hashanah, and we together with Jews and friends of the Jews celebrate the holidays under the coronavirus, with restrictions and with limitation of how many people can gather in your home to celebrate the holidays. This year, like last year, our celebration of these holidays and the month of repentance and soul-searching, and the Day of Atonement and the seven days of Sukkot, is going to be different from most years. I would like to ask you all to pray for our world during this coming month. We must pray and seek the Lord and confess our sins and the sins of our countries, and our churches and synagogues, and ask God for mercy and grace on His world. We must beg God to stop this plague like He stopped the plagues in the Bible, every one of the plagues, and the flood of Noah, came from God and was also stopped by God. It does not seem that the vaccines are stopping the development of new mutations, and strains of the coronavirus pop up and make the vaccines less potent. God can stop this plague! Let us join all of Israel in these days of repentance and seek the Lord and beg for His mercy and grace for His world. The reading for this Shabbat is from Deuteronomy 26:1 - 29:8, and from the prophets we will be reading this very important chapter of Isaiah 60:1-22. From the New Testament we will be reading from Matthew 4:13-24. I can’t emphasize enough how important it is for my brothers and sisters around the world to read these readings every week together with Israel. I will share with you how I see this simple and very beneficial act It is so simple and so important both for you and your family and for the big picture. By reading together with the Jewish people the same texts from the Torah and the prophets on the same Shabbat – you are joining the Israel team on the same side of the stadium and cheering the same team, God’s team, and wearing the same color t-shirt with God’s people. Yes, it is only symbolic and only a token, but it is a token that will bless you and give you information from reading the word of God that you are not going to get by going to church, any Christian church, because the sermons and the teaching, although can be wonderful, are not organic but canned fruit, good, but not personally yours. Reading the word of God for yourself it makes it yours, fresh and systematic. Deuteronomy chapter 26 gives us something that is so very special and unique. It shares with us what a worshipper said to the priest on the feast of Shavuot (Pentecost) when he brought his basket of first fruits to the temple on the 50th day after Passover, after the spring harvest started. I find it fascinating to read, and to hear, the words that the person says bringing his gifts to the house of the Lord. Here is a short but important analysis of the following text: “And you shall go to the one who is priest in those days, and say to him, ‘I declare today to the Lord your God that I have come to the country which the Lord swore to our fathers to give us.’ Then the priest shall take the basket out of your hand and set it down before the altar of the Lord your God. And you shall answer and say before the Lord your God: ‘My father was a Syrian, about to perish [a lost Aramian], and he went down to Egypt and dwelt there, few in number; and there he became a nation, great, mighty, and populous. But the Egyptians mistreated us, afflicted us, and laid hard bondage on us. Then we cried out to the Lord God of our fathers, and the Lord heard our voice and looked on our affliction and our labor and our oppression. So the Lord brought us out of Egypt with a mighty hand and with an outstretched arm, with great terror and with signs and wonders He has brought us to this place and has given us this land, “a land flowing with milk and honey”; and now, behold, I have brought the firstfruits of the land which you, O Lord, have given me.’ Then you shall set it before the Lord your God, and worship before the Lord your God. So you shall rejoice in every good thing which the Lord your God has given to you and your house, you and the Levite and the stranger who is among you.” – Deuteronomy 26:3-11 [NKJV] Here are some of the very special things that we can learn from these words that the worshiper says to the priest, when he brings the best and the first fruits as dedication and gratitude to the Lord for His provision and blessings! First, the place where I live was given to me by God! No matter where on God’s good earth you are living, it could be a mansion or a small room in a slum or in the woods. You are living and walking and moving on God’s Earth, on His real-estate. You and I and all that walk on this Earth don’t own anything not even the six-foot grave in which our bones are going to be buried. When you realize this, that all that we own, and all our possessions, are just given to us to be used for a season and all that we have and all that we are, is from God – that will make us much more modest and humbler. “My father was a nomad, a wondering lost Aramean (Syrian)” – He is speaking of Abraham our father. The worshiper coming now with the basket for the Lord is saying I am really “nothing” and my pedigree means nothing. This too is of great importance. I have been around God’s Earth a few times in my life, and I have been with some very rich people and most of them were humble and simple and generous brothers and sisters. However, every so often I have met people who are very wealthy, and they are generous, but they are mentally and emotionally “slaves who have become kings.” They are so full of themselves, and they want you to know that they are full of themselves. These people want to receive the credit for their generosity here and now, from you before they hand you the check. These words of a man who has just gathered his grain and filled his storehouses with wealth, and his vats are full of new wine, knows what King David knew well when in his last prayer he said: “But who am I, and who are my people, that we should be able to offer so willingly as this? For all things come from You, and of Your own we have given You. For we are aliens and pilgrims before You, as were all our fathers…” – 1 Chronicles 29:14,15 [NKJV] Notice David’s words after the long list of his donation for the building of the house of the Lord, and the preparation of the gold and other materials for the Temple in Jerusalem that his son Solomon will build. His words in this last prayer are so similar to the words of our text from Deuteronomy 26. All of us need to know and confess and act humbly because, like King David, all that we are and all that we can give God is already from His own that we give. This is true for physical and spiritual gifts. Humility is one of the most needed ingredients that leaders, rabbis, pastors, politicians, and rich people need and ought to be seeking to buy in the marketplace of things of high value that are desperately needed. We all need to spend much more of all that we are and we must buy humility and simplicity, because at the end of the day, all that we have and all that we give will be useless if we don’t give it with simplicity and humility and generosity – and secretly. Yes, secrecy is also a very-needed and God-required ingredient for our spiritual wellbeing, and for the judgement day.
Let us pray for the Christian brothers and sisters who are left in Afghanistan in the hands of the Taliban. These brothers and sisters are in grave physical danger for their lives.
They are also in grave danger to be forced to reject their faith in the Messiah or lose their lives and the lives of their children and families. We, who are living in the democratic and free world must not forget our brothers and sisters who have fallen into the hands of radical and cruel Islamic terrorists.
Our dear friend Mahmud Abu-Eid’s sister Gouzlan is very sick, and I ask you to pray for Gouzlan and for Maria Mahmud’s daughter who is getting married in Bulgaria in a few weeks.
Please keep praying for Rebekka Becker’s mother and brother. Pray for a dear sister in Brazil, Artuza de Oliveira. Pray for a very dear family who now lives in Canada, Merv and Merla Watson. They are older and need a good portion of God’s grace for their lives now.
Keep the Israeli government in your prayers. The coronavirus is again raging in our land and the new mutations are spreading throughout the land. People are getting vaccinated with the third vaccine shot, but it will take some weeks for the situation to stabilize.
We must all pray that the Lord will stop this plague, and that first and foremost the Jews and the Christians who ought to know God and His laws and regulations must pray and repent and seek the Lord and beg for mercy, and ask the Lord to stop this plague, like He did every other plague that we read about in the Bible.
He can do it, and we must intercede and beg for God’s mercy over His world. This can only happen if the leadership of both Christians and Jews take to confession and repentance.
For the Jews this might be just around the Day of Atonement, Yom Kippur, that is just around the corner. And a very high percentage of the Jewish people fast and observe the fasting day and confess sins and seek repentance.
Pray and support Netivyah during these very hard times, for opportunities to do good and to bless and feed and support the population of Israel, those in need whose number has increased by many percentage points during these difficult days in Israel.
The needs of Netivyah for more staff to be able to keep up with the amount of work and the challenges that take both time and money, and to keep up with the needs and the opportunities that God is putting in front of Netivyah.
With the coronavirus raging wild throughout the world, and in Israel, and with the threat of a new closure, Israel needs much prayer, and Netivyah needs your prayers and your support. We are doing our best not to cut the scholarship funds to Jewish and Arab disciples of Yeshua for study in the universities. We believe that building up the standard of our next generation of disciples is a priority.
We will have to cut more than 50 percent of the support for students for this next year’s academic year if the Lord does not use some of our brothers and sisters to help with this project. Netivyah has never gone into financial debt in 40 years of ministry, and we have no plan to go into debt for any project and not even this important investment in the future of the believers in Israel.
We have many dear brothers and sisters in both India and Brazil who are still very much in serious trouble with the coronavirus situation and need our prayers. We need to continue to pray for India and Brazil and especially for our dear brothers and sisters in these two countries.
The Lord answers prayers and hears the prayers of righteous people, but we must speak our prayers before the Lord for the sake of our brothers and sisters and for the sake of our countries and ministries. Even prayer for our enemies is a command of God’s Word.
So, don’t forget to pray for our national enemies and our private enemies, and bless them to either repent and change their attitude and turn toward God and receive God’s grace in Yeshua. We all know what happens to those who are not willing to repent and stop doing evil in God’s world, there is a cure for all these human conditions, eternal cure!
So, pray for your personal enemies if you have any, and especially for Israel’s enemies and terrorist states like Iran, and the Hamas in Gaza, and the Hizballah in Gaza and Lebanon… This is important, because when you pray for the good of these enemies you are actually heaping hot coal on their head. (See Romans 12, the last verses.)

We need your prayers and your help to make this important purely humanitarian service possible. We are following the instruction of Paul in Romans 15:24-27.

Ahuva. Please pray for a dear brother who is well into his 90’s and lost his wife a couple of weeks ago. His name is Dov H. Please keep in your prayers a dear sister who attends our congregation in Jerusalem. Her name is Hadassah and she just had cancer surgery. Pray for Hadassah for a full recovery and remission from any cancer in her body.
Pray for Israel. We are going through terrible riots and violence in the streets of Jerusalem and Tel-Aviv and other places around the country. These riots are motivated by the fact that much of the populace of Israel does not understand what the government is doing in relationship to the coronavirus pandemic.
I would like a new prayer request for a dear brother Yehuda Hochman who lives in the Negev Desert. Yehuda has to receive Dialysis treatment several times per week.
From our congregation in Jerusalem, we ask you to join us in prayer for the following dear brothers and sisters: Gary, Melanie, Sarit, Gabriela, Ahuva, Leah, Ilana, Hannah, young Gabriela, Jonathan B. and his wife Aviva and their new baby.
Pray for some dear friends, Rabbi Salt, and his family and Rabbi Hasselblad. They are both older and need protection and blessings.
I would like to ask you to pray about your part in supporting Netivyah Bible Instruction Ministry.
Please pray for our two grandchildren. They are both graduating in a few weeks from high school. They are both facing this important change in their lives. Noam our granddaughter also had her 18th birthday on May 1st. This was a very big day for Noam. She is free from high school and also from other obligations and is privileged to make her own decisions and choices in life. Pray for Noam on this major crossroad of life for her and ask the Lord to bless Noam and to give her clear direction and guidance for what is good and right and holy in her life.
Both Noam and Joseph, our two grandchildren, are extremely talented and good students. Both are “A” students and excellent young people, but both need divine protection and guidance to make good and smart and right choices for life.
When I was 18 years old and cut off from my family because of my faith in the Messiah, I had no one on my side and no one to guide me. The Lord’s providential leading and guidance was the only guide that I had. I praise the Lord for His goodness and direction in my life.
I wish all of you, who stand with Israel and who pray for Jerusalem, the best of the Lord’s blessings and the fulfillment of all His promises to His faithful children. Those who hear God and do His will are the ones who are called wise! Those who only hear His word and don’t do it are called foolish! Let us all strive to be wise and never foolish! The best is yet to come!
