예루살렘 기도 목록 – 2021년 7월 8일

이번 주 토라 포션은 민수기에서 두 포션, 마토트-마세이, 민수기 30:2-36:13입니다. 선지서에서 읽는 부분은 이사야 66:1-25, 신약성경에서는 야고보서 4:1-12를 읽습니다. 저는 이번 주 하프타라 이사야 66:1-25에 대해 쓰고 싶은 마음이 일어납니다. 그러나 민수기 마지막 두 포션인 마토트/마세이에서 언급해야 할 것이 몇 가지 있습니다.

이 토라 포션은 맹세의 문제로 시작됩니다. 이것은 우리 시대에 매우 중요한 것인데요, 왜냐하면 기독교인들이 예슈아의 산상수훈을 잊어버렸기 때문입니다.

“모세가 이스라엘 자손 지파의 수령들에게 말하여 이르되 여호와의 명령이 이러하니라 사람이 여호와께 서원하였거나 결심하고 서약하였으면 깨뜨리지 말고 그가 입으로 말한 대로 다 이행할 것이니라 또 여자가 만일 어려서 그 아버지 집에 있을 때에 여호와께 서원한 일이나 스스로 결심하려고 한 일이 있다고 하자 그의 아버지가 그의 서원이나 그가 결심한 서약을 듣고도 그에게 아무 말이 없으면 그의 모든 서원을 행할 것이요 그가 결심한 서약을 지킬 것이니라 그러나 그의 아버지가 그것을 듣는 날에 허락하지 아니하면 그의 서원과 결심한 서약을 이루지 못할 것이니 그의 아버지가 허락하지 아니하였은즉 여호와께서 사하시리라 또 혹시 남편을 맞을 때에 서원이나 결심한 서약을 경솔하게 그의 입술로 말하였으면 그의 남편이 그것을 듣고 그 듣는 날에 그에게 아무 말이 없으면 그 서원을 이행할 것이요 그가 결심한 서약을 지킬 것이니라 그러나 그의 남편이 그것을 듣는 날에 허락하지 아니하면 그 서원과 결심하려고 경솔하게 입술로 말한 서약은 무효가 될 것이니 여호와께서 그 여자를 사하시리라.” – 민수기 30:1-8

우리는 말이 별로 큰 가치가 없는 것 같은 시절을 살고 있습니다. 우리의 문화는 사람들이 자기가 한 약속을 지키겠노라 공언하고 약속하고 강력히 약속(맹약)하고 심지어 맹세하고서도 자기 약속과 맹약을 지키지 않을 경우 죄책감이나 양심의 가책을 느끼지 않습니다. 저는 소위 “영적 지도자”, “메시아닉 랍비”, 목사들조차 구두 약속은 정말로 구속력이 없다는 듯이 행동하는 이들이 있는 것을 알게 되었습니다.

어떤 사람들은 이스라엘 사법제도가 아주 무르기 때문에 심지어 각서나 법적 계약도 꼭 존중하지 않아도 된다고 합니다. 그러나 이 본문과 예슈아의 말씀에서 우리는 우리의 말과 약속이 우리 주님의 눈에 얼마나 진지한지 볼 수 있습니다. 다음은 우리 주님께서 말씀하신 것입니다:

“또 옛 사람에게 말한 바 헛 맹세를 하지 말고 네 맹세한 것을 주께 지키라 하였다는 것을 너희가 들었으나 나는 너희에게 이르노니 도무지 맹세하지 말지니 하늘로도 하지 말라 이는 하나님의 보좌임이요 땅으로도 하지 말라 이는 하나님의 발등상임이요 예루살렘으로도 하지 말라 이는 큰 임금의 성임이요 네 머리로도 하지 말라 이는 네가 한 터럭도 희고 검게 할 수 없음이라 오직 너희 말은 옳다 옳다, 아니라 아니라 하라 이에서 지나는 것은 악으로부터 나느니라.” – 마태복음 5:33-37

예슈아의 이 말씀이 이번 안식일 토라 포션에 기초하고 있음이 분명합니다. 전형적인 바리새파 랍비처럼 예슈아께서는 토라의 명령 주위에 울타리를 치고 계십니다. 주께서는 너희가 맹약을 하고 그것을 지키겠다고 맹세를 할 수는 있으나 결코 맹세하거나 맹약하지 않는 것이 더 안전하고 더 나을 것이라고 말씀하십니다. 너희 “예”가 “예”되게 하고 “아니오”가 “아니오”가 되게 하라. 다른 말로 하자면, 예슈아께서는 우리에게 네가 네 약속을 지키고 네 말과 동의를 존중하겠노라 맹세를 해야 하는 지경에 이르면, 너는 이미 곤란에 처한 것이라고 가르쳐주시는 것입니다. 예슈아께서는 네가 네 말이 신뢰받지 못한다면 너는 이미 “악한 자”의 함정에 빠지고 있는 것이라고 말씀하시는 것입니다.

지역사회와 메시아의 몸 안에서 우리의 평판은 우리의 신뢰도와 우리의 말의 가치에 근거하고 있고 그래야 합니다. 예루살렘 시내의 상인이 목사 혹은 랍비 혹은 그냥 예슈아의 평제자인 여러분을 믿지 않는다면, 여러분의 영적 신뢰도도 동전 한 닢의 가치도 없는 것입니다. 지도자와 목사가 그들의 도시의 거래하는 사회에서 평판이 나쁜 것은 아주 부끄러운 것입니다. 왜 이런 목사나 랍비가 지역사회에서 가게 주인에게 말하고 약속한 것보다 강단에서 말하는 것 때문에 이들을 더 믿어야 합니까?

저는 미국에서 가장 유명하고 존경받는 목사 중 한 분에 관한 이야기를 여러분과 나눠야겠습니다. 그가 예루살렘의 저희 회중(교회)을 방문하였기에 저희는 그에게 설교로 하나님의 말씀을 나눠달라고 요청했습니다. 그는 제가 입고 있는 양복을 보고 “저는 장로님을 저희 도시에 와서 저희 교회에서 설교하시도록 초청하고 싶지만 옷 입으신 것을 보니 그대로는 제 강단에 서게 할 수 없을 것 같습니다. 제가 장로님을 모시고 가서 적당한 양복을 사서 제 강단에서 설교한다면 적합할 양복으로 쫙 빼 입혀드려야겠습니다” 말했습니다. 저는 좋다고 말했습니다! 이 목사님은 제 양복이 모두 올리브산(감람산)에 살고 있는 늙은 아랍인 재단사가 지은 수제 양복이며, 옷감은 런던에서 산 것이고 그 중 일부는 돈으로 살 수 있는 것 중 최고의 옷감이라는 것을 몰랐습니다. 저는 아무 말도 하지 않았습니다.

제가 그 목사님의 도시에 도착한 다음 날 아침 그 목사님은 위풍당당하게 와서 저를 태우고 시내로 가서 시내에서 가장 멋진 남성복점으로 갔습니다. 저는 대략 15벌의 양복을 보았는데 아무 것도 제게 좋지 않았습니다. 이 양복들 모두 이태리산이었고 가장 싼 것도 미화 3,000 달러 이상이었습니다. 거의 두 시간 반 동안 양복을 입어보고 나서 저는 피곤해져 그다지 마음에는 들지는 않지만 제 치수 중 가장 저렴한 것을 사기로 결정했습니다. 그것은 그 양복점에서 가장 저렴한 축에 드는 것이었습니다. 그래서 그 목사님은 셔츠와 양말과 구두와 속옷도 더 샀습니다.

우리가 계산대로 가니 양복점 주인이 이 목사님을 아주 잘 아는 게 분명했습니다. 저는 즉각 그 주인이 아랍인이라는 것을 알아차렸습니다. 저는 그 주인에게 아랍어로 말하기 시작했고 그가 이집트 출신인 것을 알게 되었습니다. 그 목사님이 우리가 고른 것들의 값을 지불할 때가 되자 그는 소위 멕시코 돈다발(겉에만 고액지폐이고 안에는 소액지폐로 이루어진 돈다발)이라고 부르는 100 달러 지폐 다발을 꺼냈습니다.

그 목사님은 값을 지불하기 위해 100 달러 지폐를 세기 시작했습니다. 그 이집트인 주인은 아랍어로 제게 말했습니다: “요셉, 우리 가게에 와서 비싼 옷을 사는 사람은 언제나 현금으로 사는 거 아세요?” 저는 아랍어로 몰랐네요! 말했습니다. 그 아랍인은 말했습니다: 목사들과 포주들뿐이지요. 잠언은 말합니다: “선한 이름이 비싼 기름보다 더 가치 있습니다. 요셉. 당신의 이름을 지키세요!” 제게 그것을 처음으로 말한 사람은 예루살렘 정통유대교 동네 근처 거리에서 만난 낯선 사람이었습니다. 미국 달라스에 “열방을 위한 그리스도” 단체를 설립한 고든 린제이였습니다. 저는 린제이 형제님에게 낯선 사람이었고 그 형제님은 제게 낯선 사람이었습니다. 그러나 이 하나님의 사람과의 단 한 번의 만남과 그의 말은 제가 타락하지 않게 지켜주었습니다.

토라는 네가 약속을 하거나 맹약하거든 무슨 일이 있어도 그것을 지켜야 한다는 것을 분명히 하고 있습니다. 사도 바울은 예루살렘에 가서 샤부옷(오순절)을 지킬 것이라고 맹약을 했고 그는 목숨을 걸고 그의 맹약을 지켜야 했습니다.

이번 주 토라 포션에서 제가 나누고 싶은 두 번째 것은 하나님의 약속에 대한 토라의 신실함입니다.

가나안땅은 아브라함과 그의 씨(자손)에게 약속되었습니다. 주께서 이 땅을 아브라함과 그 씨에게 영원히 약속하셨던 때로부터 400년 이상 지났습니다(창세기 13:15-16 참조). 지금 주님께서는 그분의 약속을 지켜 모세에게 그 땅이 이스라엘 지파들과 각 지파의 가족들에게 어떻게 배분될 것인지 보여주십니다.

주께서는 슬로브핫의 딸들이 아들이 없는 그의 아버지의 땅을 상속하는 것을 허락하여 그분께서 바로 잡으신 율법의 개정과 변경을 잊지 않으셨습니다. 주께서는 그분의 약속을 지키시며 그것들을 잊지 않으십니다. 그래서 그들이 약속의 땅에 들어가기 전에 하나님께서는 모세와 이스라엘의 지도자들에게 다음과 같은 지침을 주십니다:

“슬로브핫의 딸들에게 대한 여호와의 명령이 이러하니라 이르시되 슬로브핫의 딸들은 마음대로 시집가려니와 오직 그 조상 지파의 종족에게로만 시집갈지니 그리하면 이스라엘 자손의 기업이 이 지파에서 저 지파로 옮기지 않고 이스라엘 자손이 다 각기 조상 지파의 기업을 지킬 것이니라 하셨나니 이스라엘 자손의 지파 중 그 기업을 이은 딸들은 모두 자기 조상 지파의 종족되는 사람의 아내가 될 것이라 그리하면 이스라엘 자손이 각기 조상의 기업을 보전하게 되어 그 기업이 이 지파에서 저 지파로 옮기게 하지 아니하고 이스라엘 자손 지파가 각각 자기 기업을 지키리라.” – 민수기 36:6-9

이것은 법적으로도 행정적으로도 큰 변경이었지만, 여성이 그들의 아버지의 재산을 상속하는 것을 허락한 첫 번째 경우이기도 했습니다. 지파의 유업의 일부로서 재산을 지키라는 조항이 만들어졌습니다.

슬로브핫의 딸들은 그들의 지파 안에서 결혼하여 지파의 총 재산이 줄어들고 다른 지파로 넘어가지 않게 해야 했습니다. 어쨌든, 이것은 율법과 사람들의 관습의 큰 변경이었으며, 상황이 공정하게 요구할 때 때때로 율법을 조정해야 하는 필요가 있다는 것을 이해하는 토라와 우리 하나님의 유연성을 보여주는 것이었습니다.

이것이 제게 아주 중요한 것은, 우리 예슈아의 제자들도 모세와 주님이 가졌던 것과 똑같은 태도를 가져야 하기 때문입니다. 우리는 기도로 우리의 문제들을 주님 앞에 가져가, 현대의 기술 사용에서 비롯되는 문제들에 대한 해법을 찾고 율법주의에 갇혀 하나님의 말씀을 경직되게 이해하는 오류에 빠지지 않기 위해 창세기부터 요한계시록까지 하나님의 말씀에서 충고를 구해야 합니다.

우리는 토라에서 이런 예시와 모세와 주님께서 친히 토라를 단지 돌판에 새긴 경직된 말이 아닌 생명과 삶을 위한 토라가 되어야 한다고 보신 방식을 관찰해야 합니다. 예레미야 31:31-37에 따르면 주님의 토라는 우리 마음에 새겨져 있습니다. 그리고 우리는 성령님의 인도하심이, 죽이는 말씀이지만 성령과 함께하면 주의 말씀에 생명을 가져오는 육신의 생명을 주는 샘이며 생수인 살아 있는 말씀으로, 우리를 죽음이 아닌 생명으로 인도하시도록 허락해야 합니다!

마르시아의 친정어머니는 91세이신데 건강상태(폐암)가 아주 심각해졌습니다. 그녀의 이름은 준입니다. 마르시아의 친정어머니 준을 위해, 주님의 긍휼과 은혜가 있어 준을 위로해 주시고 통증이 없게 역사하도록 기도해 주시기 바랍니다.

마르시아와 오빠들과 가족들이 강건하며 이 땅 위 우리 사람들 삶 속의 주님의 긍휼과 은혜에 감사하도록 기도해 주십시오. 여러분의 기도에 마르시아를 기억해 주십시오. 그녀는 여전히 당뇨병과 류마티스 관절염이 있고, 백내장 수술에서는 회복 중이며, 나이와 주행거리에 따라 오는 약간의 인지력 문제가 있습니다.

우리의 귀한 머브 형제님은 30년 이상 예루살렘에 살며 저희 회중의 지체로 있다가 지금은 캐나다에서 살고 있습니다. 머브는 심장병이 의심스러워 병원에 실려 갔다가, 주님께 감사하게도, 집으로 귀가했고 심장 문제가 아니었습니다. 그러나 심장병만큼 심각하지는 않지만 통증이 있는 다른 문제였습니다. 그래도 여러분의 기도에 머브와 멀라를 기억해 주십시오!

코로나바이러스 팬데믹이 인도에서 온 변이로 이스라엘과 전 세계적으로 다시 고개를 들고 있습니다. 이스라엘은 대부분의 세계보다 더 나은 양상이기는 하지만, 전 세계를 위해 기도해 주시고 여러분의 기도에 이스라엘과 여러분 각자의 나라도 언급해 주시기 바랍니다.

The Jerusalem Prayer List – July 8, 2021

The Torah reading this week is from the last two Torah portions of the book of Numbers, Mattot-Massei, Numbers 30:2-36:13. From the prophets the reading is Isaiah 66:1-25. From the New Testament we read from James 4:1-12. I am tempted to write this week on the Haftarah of Isaiah 66:1-25. But there are a few things from the two Parashot of the end of Numbers Mattot/Massei that I feel that I must mention.

The Torah Reading starts with the issue of taking a vow, a bond. This is something that is of great importance in our days because Christians have forgotten the teaching of Yeshua in the Sermon on the mountain.

“This is the thing which the Lord has commanded: If a man makes a vow to the Lord, or swears an oath to bind himself by some agreement, he shall not break his word; he shall do according to all that proceeds out of his mouth. ‘Or if a woman makes a vow to the Lord, and binds herself by some agreement while in her father’s house in her youth, and her father hears her vow and the agreement by which she has bound herself, and her father holds his peace, then all her vows shall stand, and every agreement with which she has bound herself shall stand. But if her father overrules her on the day that he hears, then none of her vows nor her agreements by which she has bound herself shall stand; and the Lord will release her, because her father overruled her. If indeed she takes a husband, while bound by her vows or by a rash utterance from her lips by which she bound herself, and her husband hears it, and makes no response to her on the day that he hears, then her vows shall stand, and her agreements by which she bound herself shall stand. But if her husband overrules her on the day that he hears it, he shall make void her vow which she took and what she uttered with her lips, by which she bound herself, and the Lord will release her.’” – Numbers 30:1-9 [NKJV]

We are living in a season where words don’t seem to be worth much. Our culture is such that people speak and promise and make strong promises (vows) and even swear that they will keep their promises, but even don’t feel guilty or remorse if they don’t keep their promises and their vows. I find even so called “spiritual leaders,” “Messianic rabbis,” and pastors who act like the spoken word is not really binding.

For some even the written word or a legal contract is not necessarily respected because the court system in Israel is so very lenient. However, in this text and in the words of Yeshua we see how serious our words and promises are in the eyes of our Lord. Here is what our Lord says:

“Again you have heard that it was said to those of old, ‘You shall not swear falsely, but shall perform your oaths to the Lord.’ But I say to you, do not swear at all: neither by heaven, for it is God’s throne; nor by the earth, for it is His footstool; nor by Jerusalem, for it is the city of the great King. Nor shall you swear by your head, because you cannot make one hair white or black. But let your “Yes’ be “Yes,’ and your “No,’ ‘No.’ For whatever is more than these is from the evil one.” – Matthew 5:33-37 [NKJV]

It is obvious that these words of Yeshua are based on our Torah portion of this Shabbat. Yeshua like a typical Pharisee rabbi is building a fence around the Torah commandment. He says that you can make a vow and swear to keep it, but it would be safer and better for you if you don’t swear at all or take a vow at all. Let you “Yes” by “Yes” and your “No” be “No.” In other words Yeshua is teaching us that if you get to a place where you have to swear that you are going to keep your promises and respect your words and agreements you are already in trouble. If you are not trusted for your words Yeshua says you are already falling into the trap of the “evil one.”

Our reputation in town and in the body of the Messiah is and ought to be based on our credibility and the value of our words. If the merchants in downtown Jerusalem don’t trust you as a pastor or a rabbi or just as a plain disciple of Yeshua, your spiritual credibility is also not worth a dime. It is such a shame for leaders and pastors to have a bad reputation in the business community in their cities. Why would anyone trust these pastors or rabbis for what they say from the pulpit more than for what they say and promise to the shop owners in town?

I have to share with you a story about one of the most famous and respected pastors in the United States. He had visited our congregation in Jerusalem and we asked him to preach and share God’s word with us. He looked at the suit that I was wearing and said, “I want to invite you to come to my city and preach in my church, but the way you are dressed I can’t let you on my pulpit. I will have to take you and get you a proper suit and dress you up right if you are going to preach from my pulpit.” I said fine! This pastor didn’t know that my suits were all handmade by an old Arab tailor that lived on the Mount of Olives, and that the material was purchased in London and was some of the best that money can buy. I said nothing.

When I arrived to his city the next day with pomp and ceremony the pastor came in the morning and picked me up and took me down town and to the fanciest men’s shop in that town. I looked at about 15 suits and none were good for me. Each one of these suits was from Italy and the cheapest were even on sale 3000 US dollars and up. After near two and a half hours of trying on suits, I was tired and decided to get the cheapest suit that was in my size even if it was not what I really liked. It was one of the cheapest suits in the shop. So, the pastor added shirts and socks and shoes and underwear to the purchase.

When we came to the cashier it was clear that the owner of the shop was very familiar with this pastor. Immediately I noticed that the owner is an Arab. I started to speak to the owner in Arabic and found out that he is originally from Egypt. When it came time for the pastor to pay for what we were getting he took out a wad of hundred dollars bills in what is called a Mexican bankroll.

The Pastor started to peal off 100 dollars bills to make the payment. The Egyptian owner said to me in Arabic: “Joseph do you know who comes to my shop and buys expensive cloths and always pays in cash?” I said in Arabic no sir! The Arab said: only pastors and pimps. The book of Proverbs says: “A good name is more valuable than expensive oil. Joseph. Please guard your name!” The first person who said that to me was a stranger that I met on the streets of Jerusalem near the orthodox Jewish neighborhood. It was Gordon Lindsay, who founded Christ for the Nations in Dallas. I was a stranger to brother Lindsay and He was a stranger to me. But, just this one meeting with this man of God and his words kept me many times from falling.

The Torah makes it clear if you make a promise or take a vow. You must keep it at all cost. The Apostle Paul made a vow to go to Jerusalem and celebrate the feast of Shavuot (Pentecost) and he had to keep his vow even at the cost of his life.

The second thing in our Torah reading this Shabbat that I would like to share is the faithfulness of the Torah to God’s promises.

1The land of Canaan was promised to Abraham and to His seed. More than 400 years had passed from the time that the Lord promised the Land to Abraham and His seed forever (See Genesis 13:15-16). Now the Lord is keeping his promises and shows Moses how the land will be divided among the tribes of Israel and the families of each tribe.

The Lord has not forgotten the amendment that He corrected and the changes in the law that allowed the daughters of Zelophehad to inherit the land of their father who had no sons. The Lord keeps his promises and does not forget them. So, before they enter the land of promise, God gives Moses and the leadership of Israel the following instruction:

“This is what the Lord commands concerning the daughters of Zelophehad, saying, ‘Let them marry whom they think best, but they may marry only within the family of their father’s tribe.’ So the inheritance of the children of Israel shall not change hands from tribe to tribe, for every one of the children of Israel shall keep the inheritance of the tribe of his fathers. And every daughter who possesses an inheritance in any tribe of the children of Israel shall be the wife of one of the family of her father’s tribe, so that the children of Israel each may possess the inheritance of his fathers. Thus no inheritance shall change hands from one tribe to another, but every tribe of the children of Israel shall keep its own inheritance.’” – Numbers 36:6-9 [NKJV]

This was a major change both legally and administratively, but also it was the first time that women were allowed to inherit the property of their father. Provision was made to keep the property as a part of the tribal inheritance.

These daughters of Zelophehad had to marry within their tribe so that the total property of the tribe does not diminish and move to the hands of another tribe. But, it was a major change of the laws and the customs of the people and it showed the flexibility of the Torah and of our God that understands the need to adjust the law sometimes when the circumstances justly demand it.

This is for me of great importance as we too as disciples of Yeshua must have that same attitude as Moses and the Lord had. We must take our issues before the Lord in prayer and consult the word of God from Genesis to Revelation to find solutions to some of the issues that come up from the use of modern technology and not be stuck in a legalistic and frozen understanding of God’s Word.

We must observe these examples in the Torah, and the way that Moses and the Lord Himself see that the Torah as being a Torah for life and for living and not simply a frozen word carved on stone. The Torah of the Lord is carved on our hearts according to Jeremiah 31:31-37 and we must allow for the guidance of the Holy Spirit to guide us to live, and not to die, with the word, that kills, but live with the Spirit that brings the Lord’s word to life as a life-giving fountain of fresh and living water!

Marcia’s mother is 91 years old and her condition (lung cancer) has become very serious. Her name is June. Please pray for June, Marcia’s mother, prayer that the Lord’s mercy and grace be present and act for June’s comfort and no pain.

Pray for Marcia and her brothers and families to be strong and appreciate the Lord’s mercy and grace in our human lives here on this Earth. Keep Marcia in your prayers. She is still coping with the diabetes and with the rheumatoid arthritis and with the healing of her cataract eye surgery, and with some minor cognitive issues that come with age and mileage.

I have some new prayer requests from brothers and sisters. Our dear friend Mahmud’s sister Gouzlan is very sick and I ask you to pray for Gouzlan and also for Maria, Mahmud’s daughter, who is getting married in Bulgaria in a few weeks.

Also I have been asked to add the mother of Rebecca, our dear sister, to our prayers. Pray for Livia Schnell Nothen and for Guilherme Antonio Nothen Becker. Guilherme is in a serious health condition. We are also praying for Artuza de Oliveira a dear sister in Brazil.

Our dear brother Merv, is now living in Canada after more than 30 years of living in Jerusalem and being a member of our congregation. Merv was taken to the Hospital with suspicion of heart issues, but Praise the Lord, Merv is back home and his problem is not with the heart but other issues that are painful but not as serious as heart issues. Still keep Merv and Merla in your prayers!

Please pray for Israel and pray for the new government to have enough courage and wisdom to know how to apply everything that is good and holy and righteous for us in Israel and for our Arab neighbors.

Pray and support Netivyah during these very hard times, for opportunities to do good and to bless and feed and support the population of Israel, those in need whose number has increased by many percentage points during these difficult days in Israel.

Thank you, dear brothers, for praying for our dear sister Rita Sassai in Brazil. The Lord heard our prayers and our dear sister Rita is out of the hospital and at home.

Sarit our dear sister is out of the hospital and in a convalescent home for a few weeks.

We have many dear brothers and sisters in both India and Brazil who are still very much in serious trouble with the coronavirus situation and need our prayers. We need to continue to pray for India and Brazil and especially for our dear brothers and sisters in these two countries.

I received a special prayer request from our dear brother Isaac in Chennai, India. Brother Isaac asked us to pray especially for sister Sheela Stephen. Sister Sheela’s lungs are in serious need of oxygen and right now oxygen is hard to find for coronavirus patients.

The pandemic of the coronavirus is raising its head again in Israel and around the world with the mutation that came from India. Although Israel is in better shape than most of the world, please pray for the whole world and also mention Israel and your own country in your prayers.

Keep praying for the Rosenfeld family, the young and the old.

Please pray for a dear brother, Malcolm Thomas King from the UK.

Please consider helping Netivyah to continue caring and feeding the poor of Jerusalem and blessing the people of this city that need help to feed their children and families.

Also we need your prayers and help to continue to do the Lord's work with the youth in Jerusalem.

You can also subscribe to receive the Teaching from Zion Magazine by mail, a hard copy. This too is free of charge. The Lord has always been faithful to supply our needs. He has also been precise and provided what we need, not too little and not too much.

The Hamotzi program for feeding the needy of Jerusalem is ongoing and has not stopped during most of the coronavirus lockdown and quarantine. The number of needy people who come to receive food from our program has increased and overall need has increased.

Please pray for Netivyah and for the Netivyah leadership and find ways to partner and participate in the great blessing that the ministry of Netivyah is here in Israel and also around the world. Please pray and seek ways to partner and contribute financially for the Lord’s work in Netivyah Bible Instruction Ministry.

Both Yehuda and I continue to teach on Zoom and on YouTube and on the Netivyah Facebook every week and sometimes every day. Please pray for these teachings to bear fruit for the Kingdom of God. Enjoy the very fine teaching and enjoy learning from God’s Word. It is all free of charge!

Pray for all those wonderful, dedicated brothers and sisters in Korea who stood with Israel and with Netivyah to revive and to not forget their first love for Israel and for Netivyah.

Danah our daughter, needs much prayer for her health and her situation. Our granddaughter Noam is a senior in high school and working with Zoom to finish her high school. Pray for the Lord to give Noam guidance and direction for graduation from high school.

Our grandson Joseph also needs prayer to be able to get into college with proper scholarships. Please lift Barry our son and his family, Beth, and Joey our grandson to be protected and spared any contact and infection of the coronavirus. Marcia’s mother June is 91 years old and her health is failing.

I am adding a new prayer request from a leader of God’s people in India, Joy Mathew. Joy has a serious heart condition and has asked for prayer.

We have received many letters of gratitude and praise for our scholarship fund through which we support more than 40 Israeli disciples of Yeshua who are students in Israel’s fine academic institutions and universities.

The gratitude and appreciation of these students is such an encouragement and refreshing hope for the future generation of Jewish Disciples of Yeshua in this land. Netivyah has been doing this for longer than 30 years and we have generations of students from all of Israel and from most of the Messianic congregations in Israel.

For a season we had a special fund to support Arab Christian medical students and we have supported dozens of Arab Christians from the Galilee with their medical school studies. It is a great program that Netivyah started many years ago and the fruit of these scholarships has produced lawyers and doctors and pharmacists, nurses…

We need your prayers and your support to be able to continue this wonderful work of creating the next generation of disciples of Yeshua in this God-given land of Israel.

From Chennai, India, please remember Pastor Isaac. Pastor Isaac is an older man with severe kidney problems and has to have dialysis several times per week. Remember Tony and Louisa Tam, and our brothers and sisters at the 611 Church, and the other churches who love God and love Israel in that great city. Remember in your prayers the Cohen family in Hong Kong.

Just a word of grace before the mercy seat of the Almighty will be heard in favor of these brothers and Um Mahmud Abu-Eid and Jimmy Abu-Eid and his family, Keijo and Salme our dear brothers in Finland, Tim Tucker, Satu-Maria, Sinni Tuuli, Anne Mirjami our dear sister and all our other brothers and sisters in Finland who need our prayers, Eva H., Patty, Andrea, Julia and Victor, and Aaron Tani, and Hillel and his wife.

Please see your prayer as casting a vote for healing before the Lord and His angels in Heaven in favor of every brother and sister that you are praying for. Just a word of grace for all of us is a refreshing spirit. Take your prayers before the mercy seat of the Almighty to be heard in favor of those that you are lifting in prayer.

Pray for Israel. We are going through terrible riots and violence in the streets of Jerusalem and Tel-Aviv and other places around the country. These riots are motivated by the fact that much of the populace of Israel does not understand what the government is doing in relationship to the coronavirus pandemic.

I would like a new prayer request for a dear brother Yehuda Hochman who lives in the Negev Desert. Yehuda has to receive Dialysis treatment several times per week.

From our congregation in Jerusalem, we ask you to join us in prayer for the following dear brothers and sisters: Gary, Melanie, Sarit, Gabriela, Ahuva, Leah, Ilana, Hannah, young Gabriela, Jonathan B. and his wife Aviva and their new baby.

Pray for some dear friends, Rabbi Salt, and his family and Rabbi Hasselblad. They are both older and need protection and blessings.

I would like to ask you to pray about your part in supporting Netivyah Bible Instruction Ministry.

Please pray for a new project that we are starting in Israel in partnership with the Houses for Healing ministry from Abilene, Texas.

Please pray for our two grandchildren. They are both graduating in a few weeks from high school. They are both facing this important change in their lives. Noam our granddaughter also has her 18th birthday on May 1st. This is a very big day for Noam. She will be free from high school and also from other obligations and be privileged to make her own decisions and choices in life. Pray for Noam on this major crossroad of life for her and ask the Lord to bless Noam and to give her clear direction and guidance for what is good and right and holy in her life.

Both Noam and Joseph, our two grandchildren, are extremely talented and good students. Both are “A” students and excellent young people, but both need divine protection and guidance to make good and smart and right choices for life.

When I was 18 years old and cut off from my family because of my faith in the Messiah, I had no one on my side and no one to guide me. The Lord’s providential leading and guidance was the only guide that I had. I praise the Lord for His goodness and direction in my life.

I pray that both Joseph and Noam will have such divine strength and vision for their own future that only right and good choices will be their gift from the Almighty God of Israel and Yeshua our Lord. 
 

I wish all of you, who stand with Israel and who pray for Jerusalem, the best of the Lord’s blessings and the fulfillment of all His promises to His faithful children. Those who hear God and do His will are the ones who are called wise! Those who only hear His word and don’t do it are called foolish! Let us all strive to be wise and never foolish! The best is yet to come!
