예루살렘 기도 목록 – 2021년 10월 28일

우리가 살고 있는 세계는 아직도 코로나바이러스 전염병이 돌고 있고, [그런 와중에] 우리는 매주 토라 포션(파라샷 하샤부아, 금주의 파라샤)과 선지서 포션(하프타라)를 읽고, 또한 예슈아의 제자로서 신약성경에서도 말씀을 읽습니다. 이번 주에 읽는 부분은 창세기 23:1~25:18, 열왕기상 1:1-31, 마태복음 1:1-17; 고린도전서 15:50-57입니다.
이번 주 토라 포션은 “하예이 사라”, 사라의 삶이라고 합니다. 파라샤는 하예이 사라라고 부르지만, 이 포션에서 우리는 사라의 죽음에 대해 읽습니다. 이번 주 토라 포션에서 가장 중요한 부분은 아브라함이 헤브론에 있는 막벨라 굴을 사는 것입니다. 여러분이 이스라엘을 방문하여 헤브론에 있는 막벨라 굴을 보고 싶으시면, 헤브론으로 가서 아브라함과 사라과 리브가와 이삭과 야곱과 그이 아내 레아의 무덤 안으로 들어가 볼 수 있습니다. 막벨라 굴 위에 있는 건물은 자신의 정부(情婦)의 요청에 따라 세례 요한의 목을 베어 그 정부에게 주었던 바로 그 헤롯대왕이 지은 것입니다. 막벨라 굴 위에 서 있는 건물은 주전 20년경부터 계속 사용되고 있는, 세계에서 가장 오래된 건물 중 하나입니다. 막벨라 굴은 아브라함이 그 굴이 있던 땅 주인이었던 헷 사람 에브론에게서 그것을 산 그 시대부터 거룩한 곳으로 여겨지고 있습니다. 아브라함이 헷 사람 에브론과 막벨라 굴 매입을 놓고 협상하는 이야기는 중동에서 거래하는 데에 있어 진짜 교훈이 됩니다. 제가 여러분에게 이 거래에 무슨 일이 일어나고 있는지 분석해 드리겠습니다. 헤브론의 헷 족속 사람들을 대하는 아브라함의 몇 가지 행동 요소가 있습니다. 첫째, 이 헷 족속은 어떤 사람들입니까? 주후 19세기 후반까지 많은 성경학자들과 심지어 중동 역사가들조차 헷 족속이라는 민족이 있었을 것이라고 생각하지 않았다는 것을 말씀드려야 할 것 같습니다. 헷 족속(히타이트인들)은 아나톨리안 산맥 중간에 아주 강력하고 고도로 발전된 제국을 가지고 있었습니다. 그들은 주전 18세기와 16세기경 번창했습니다. 헷 족속은 당대에 거대 제국이었던 이집트와 경쟁하며 충돌하고 있었습니다. 히타이트 제국의 수도는 아나톨리아 북부에 있는 헤투사였습니다. 히타이트 제국은 주전 14세기에 권력의 정점에 이르렀습니다. 모든 제국과 마찬가지로 히타이트인들은 가나안 땅 쪽으로 확장하고자 하는 야망이 있었고 그래서 이집트와 충돌했습니다. 이스라엘 땅에는 히타이트인들의 유명한 성읍들이 몇 있었습니다. 히타이트인들의 성읍들 중에는 메소포타미아로 가는 북향 대로에 위치한 갈릴리의 핫솔이 있었습니다. 또 다른 히타이트 성읍인 벧예락(달의 집)은 갈릴리 호수 남서해안에 위치해 있었습니다. 물론, 우리는 아브라함의 이야기에서 히타이트인들이 헤브론에도 정착한 것을 알 수 있습니다. 우리가 아브라함 때 가나안 땅에서 무슨 일이 일어나고 있었는지 알려면, 우선 가나안 땅이 이집트의 별로 중요하지 않은 한 도(道)였다는 것을 기억해야 합니다. 가나안 땅은 아프리카, 아시아, 유럽 세 대륙을 이어주는 유일한 땅이었습니다. 고대 세계의 두 개의 주요 대로는 지중해와 요단강 사이 둔덕들과 요단 저편의 산등성이들을 따라 관통했습니다. 이 두 대로 중 하나는 해변길이라고 불렀습니다. 해변길은 이집트 북부에서부터 지중해 해안을 따라 올라가 북쪽 통로를 막는 갈멜산까지 이르고, 거기 갈멜산자락에서 해변길은 동쪽으로 틀어 이스르엘 골짜기를 가로질러 갈릴리 호수자락에서 요단강을 건너 다마스커스와 메소포타미아, 앗수르, 바벨론까지 이르렀습니다. 다른 대로는 이집트에서 시작되어 시내광야를 가로지르고 계속해서 네게브광야를 가로질러 아랍의 성읍 동쪽까지 이른 다음, 사해 저편으로 건너 요단강을 따라 북쪽으로 다마스커스와 그보다 북쪽으로 계속 이어졌습니다. 폭이 40마일에서 80마일밖에 안 되는 이 좁은 땅덩어리에, 우리가 창세기에서 읽듯이, 일곱 민족이 가나안 땅의 도성국가들을 가지고 있었습니다. 예루살렘은 여부스 족속의 성읍이었고, 아모리 족속이 차지하고 있는 땅이 있었고, 다른 땅은 기르가스 족속이 다스리고 있었습니다. 블레셋 족속도 지중해 남쪽 해안을 따라 아쉬켈론, 아쉬돗, 가자, 갓, 에크론 같은 다섯 개의 도성국가를 가지고 있었습니다. 이 작은 땅에 그렇게 여러 소수민족이 이집트를 견제하며 우위에 서서 통치권을 얻으려 획책하고 있다는 것은 무슨 뜻이겠습니까? 하나님께서 아브라함을 보낸 곳은 이런 무대였습니다. 고대 지중해 동부에서 가장 어지러운 곳 중 하나인 곳. 이곳이 하나님께서 아브라함을 보내신 곳입니다. 이곳은 하나님께서 아브라함과 그의 자손에게 영원한 소유로 주신 땅입니다. 바로 이스라엘 땅입니다. 우리 조상 아브라함에게 다시 돌아가 봅시다. 창세기 13:15과 다른 십여 곳에서 하나님께서는 가나안 땅을 아브라함의 씨에게 영원한 소유로 약속하셨습니다. 하나님께서 아브라함과 그의 씨에게 그 땅을 약속하신 예 중 몇 구절입니다: “보이는 땅을 내가 너와 네 자손에게 주리니 영원히 이르리라.” – 창세기 13:15 “내가 내 언약을 나와 너 및 네 대대 후손 사이에 세워서 영원한 언약을 삼고 너와 네 후손의 하나님이 되리라 내가 너와 네 후손에게 네가 거류하는 이 땅 곧 가나안 온 땅을 주어 영원한 기업이 되게 하고 나는 그들의 하나님이 되리라.” – 창세기 17:7,8 “이 땅에 거류하면 내가 너와 함께 있어 네게 복을 주고 내가 이 모든 땅을 너와 네 자손에게 주리라 내가 네 아버지 아브라함에게 맹세한 것을 이루어” – 창세기 26:3 “그는 그의 언약 곧 천 대에 걸쳐 명령하신 말씀을 영원히 기억하셨으니 이것은 아브라함과 맺은 언약이고 이삭에게 하신 맹세이며 야곱에게 세우신 율례 곧 이스라엘에게 하신 영원한 언약이라 이르시기를 내가 가나안 땅을 네게 주어 너희에게 할당된 소유가 되게 하리라 하셨도다.” – 시편 105:8-11 여기에 이 토라 포션에서 특별한 점이 있습니다! 하나님께서는 아브라함에게 가나안 땅이 영원히 그와 그의 자손의 것이라고 몇 차례 약속하셨습니다. 이 약속은 창세기와 토라의 다른 책들과 여호수아서와 선지서들과 심지어 시편에서도 몇 차례 반복되었습니다. 그렇습니다, 우리는 이 토라 포션에서 아브라함이 그의 아내 사라가 죽을 때까지 전능하신 하나님께서 그에게 영원한 소유로 약속하신 땅 한 조각도 소유하지 않고 있었다는 것을 알 수 있습니다. 그의 사라가 죽자 그는 그의 죽은 아내를 장사할 곳이 필요했습니다. 그렇지만, 아브라함은 하나님께서 그에게 주신 땅의 소유권을 주장하지 않고, 값을 치르고자 했습니다. 그래서 이 하나님의 말씀 속에 무엇이 우리가 중동 정치학에서 배울 수 있는 중요한 교훈일까요? 첫째, 아브라함은 헤브론 헷 족속(히타이트인들)에게 아주 겸손하게 다가갑니다: “나는 당신들 중에 나그네요 거류하는 자이니 당신들 중에서 내게 매장할 소유지를 주어 내가 나의 죽은 자를 내 앞에서 내어다가 장사하게 하시오.” – 창세기23:4 아브라함은 그들 역시 아나톨리아 산맥들에 있는 자기들의 고향에서 멀리 떨어진 이 땅에 정착한 헷 족속에게, 하나님께서 이미 네 번이나 그와 그의 씨에게 이 가나안 땅을 약속하신 사실을 드러내지 않는 겸손함으로 다가갑니다. 그는 헷 족속을 마주하여 “이곳은 내 땅이오. 우주의 창조주, 온 세상의 주인께서 이것을 내게 주셨소!”라고 말하지 않았습니다. 그는 아주 겸손히 와서 “나는 당신들 중에 나그네요 거류하는 자입니다.”라고 말합니다. 둘째, 헷 사람 에브론과의 아주 전형적인 이 중동식 협상 때 아브라함은 그 땅을 선물로 받고자 하지 않고, 깎아달라고 청하지도 않습니다. 아브라함은 헷 사람 에브론에게 그가 요구한 값 전부를 치르겠다고 합니다. 또한, 아브라함은 헤브론 현지 주민의 정서를 알아, 이 거래의 증인이 많도록, 그래서 이 토지 매입의 합법성에 문제가 없도록 이 거래를 공중이 보는데서 하자고 합니다. 이후 성경에서 우리는 아브라함과 이삭이 헤브론에 있는 이 굴에 장사되는 것을 알 수 있습니다. 우리는 야곱의 시신도 이집트(애굽)에서 가나안 땅(이스라엘 땅)으로 가져와 헤브론의 이 굴에 장사된 것을 알 수 있습니다. 그리고 이스라엘 자손이 애굽을 떠나 광야에서 40년을 보낼 때 그들이 요셉의 유골도 가져와 아브라함이 헷 사람 에브론에게서 산 땅에 있는 이 굴에 장사한 것도 알 수 있습니다. 저는 이 토라 포션에는 아주 소중한 교훈, 중동에서는 어떻게 거래를 해야 하는지, 우리 이웃과 어떻게 평화와 좋은 관계를 유지할 수 있는지를 우리에게 가르쳐주는 이야기들이 있다고 생각합니다. 물론, 우리가 살고 있는 이 시대 20세기 및 21세기에 우리의 이웃들은 변했고 명예와 공정거래라는 문제는 이 세상에서 거의 사라졌습니다. 그래서 아브라함과 족장들 이삭과 야곱에게서 우리는 이스라엘 땅에 관해 배울 수 있는 교훈들이 있으나, 이 시대 우리 국경 안에 살고 있는 분자들을 다루는 데에는 충분치는 않습니다. 그러나 우리 이웃과의 사적 관계에 대해서는 우리가 우리 조상 아브라함같이 행동하는 것을 배운다면, 우리는 대부분 이스라엘 땅에서 우리 이웃과의 관계에 관한 한 그다지 많이 변하지 않았다는 것을 알게 될 것입니다. 아브라함이 잠재적으로 적대적인 헷 족속 이웃과의 거래에 사용하고 있는 원리들입니다: 1. 난폭하고 공격적인 성향의 역사가 있는 네 이웃과 대할 때 겸손하고 오만하지 말라. 2. 거래할 때는 선물을 받지 말라. 이 선물이 나중에 아주 큰 값을 치르게 할 수도 있기 때문이다. 3. 언제나 증인을 세워 거래하되, 가능한 한 공중이 보는 데서 하고 은밀히 하지 말라. 4. 네 이웃에게 깎아달라고 청하지 말라. 그것은 다음 번 거래에 그들에게 진 빚으로 해석될 수도 있기 때문이다. 5. 그 값이 합리적이라면 상대방이 요구하는 값을 지불하라. 상대방이 너를 이용해 먹으려 하면, 네 이웃과의 거래는 공중이 보는 데서 서면으로 문서화해야 하며, 거래에 대한 감사를 표현하되 네 이웃과 하는 모든 거래를 문서화하는 것과 등기소에 등록할 것을 요구하는 것을 주저하지 말라. 협잡으로 몇 푼 벌면서 원수를 만드는 것보다 친구가 되어 계속 친구로 남는 것이 더 중요하다. 6. 토지 매입이나 친구에게서 차를 사는 것 같은 큰 거래 전후로 기도하라. 하나님께 도움을 구하고 거래하고자 하는 이웃의 진짜 정직함과 진실함을 드러내 주시도록 구하라.
제 아내 마르시아를 위해 기도해 주시기 바랍니다. 마르시아는 퇴원하여 집에 있습니다. 그녀는 많이 나아졌지만, 어지럼증은 아직 완전히 정상 상태로 돌아오지 않았습니다. 그녀는 하나님의 치유의 손길로 어루만지시어 고쳐주심이 절대적으로 필요합니다. 혈압은 아직 조절이 필요한데요, 인위적으로 낮추는 것을 그만할 필요가 있습니다.
저희는 11월에 미국으로 가서 3주 동안 있을 계획이기에, 여러분께 저희의 여행과 저희의 건강을 위해 기도해 주시기를 부탁드립니다.
저는 일주일 전 화요일에 눈 수술을 받았습니다. 그것은 쉽지 않았는데요, 사실 아주 실망스러웠지만 저희는 모두 이것이 성공스러운 결과가 되도록, 그리고 모든 것이 잘 되기를 기도합니다. 어려운 점은 제가 이식된 각막 거부증상에 대한 항염증 약을 오랫동안, 적어도 일 년 동안 먹어야 할 것이라는 점입니다.

뇌졸중으로 중환자실에 입원했던, 하나님의 사람이며 제 제자 중 하나인 스티브(아셰르) 목크를 위해 계속 기도해 주시기 바랍니다. 지금 스티브 목크는 귀가했으나, 말과 거동에 큰 어려움이 있습니다.

하나님의 이름으로 가장 중요하고 가장 효과적인 선한 일들에 축복이 될 선택을 하는 판단을 테스트하는 것이며, 주님을 영화롭게 하며 우리의 충성됨을 보여주도록 후하고 선한 마음으로 주는 자선을 테스트하는 것입니다. 저희 편에 서서 이 축복을 누리십시오!

The Jerusalem Prayer List – October 28, 2021

Our world is still plagued with the coronavirus and every week we read the Torah portion (Parashat Hashavua) and the portion from the prophets (The Haftarah), and as disciples of Yeshua we also read from the New Testament. This week’s readings are: Genesis 23:1-25:18, 1 Kings 1:1-31, Matthew 1:1-17; 1 Corinthians 15:50-57.
The Torah portion is called Chayei Sarah, the life of Sarah. Although the parasha is called Chayei Sarah, we read in this portion about the death of Sarah. The most significant portion of this Torah reading on Shabbat is Abraham’s purchase of the Cave of Machpela in Hebron. If you visit Israel and want to see the Cave of Machpela in Hebron, it is possible to go to Hebron and see and enter into the tombs of Abraham and Sarah and Rebecca, and Isaac, and Jacob and Leah his wife. The building on top of the Cave of Machpela was built by Herod the Great, the same Herod who had John the Baptist’s head served to his mistress according to her request. The building that stands on top of the Cave of Machpela is one of the oldest buildings in the world that is in continues use since around about 20 B.C.E. The Cave of Machpela is considered a holy place since the days that Abraham purchased it from the Hittite Ephron who owned that plot of land and the cave was on his land. The story of Abraham’s negotiation with Ephron the Hittite over the purchase of the Cave of Machpela is a true lesson in doing business in the Middle East. Let me analyze for you what is going on in this deal Here are some of the elements of Abraham’s behavior with the Hittites in Hebron. First, who are these Hittites? I must say that until the late 19th Century A.D. many of the Bible scholars and even historians of the Middle East didn’t think that there was such a nation as the Hittites. The Hittites had an empire, a very powerful and highly-developed empire in midst of the Anatolian mountains. They flourished just around the 16th and 18th Century B.C.E. The Hittites were in competition and conflict with Egypt, that was a great empire at the same time. The capital of the Hittite empire was Hettusa in northern Anatolia. The Hittite Empire reached its highest point of power in the 14th Century B.C.E. Like every empire, the Hittites had aspirations for expansion toward the land of Canaan and also had a conflict with Egypt. In the land of Israel, the Hittites had some famous cities. Among the Hittite cities was Hatzor in the Galilee, seated on the main road leading north toward Mesopotamia. Another Hittite City, Beit Yerach (The House of the Moon) was situated at the southwest shore of the Sea of Galilee. Of course we learn from the story of Abraham that the Hittites were also settled in Hebron. For us to understand what is going on in the days of Abraham in the land of Canaan we must remember that the land of Canaan was first of all a kind of less-important Egyptian province. The Land of Canaan was the only land bridge between three continents: Africa, Asia, and Europe. The two main highways of the ancient world passed right through between the Mediterranean Sea and the Jordan River and even along the banks and the mountain crests on the other side of the Jordan river. One of these two highways (roads) was called the Way of the Sea. The Way of the Sea went from Egypt north along the shores of the Mediterranean Sea, up to mount Carmel that blocked the passage north, and there at the foot of Mount Carmel the Way of the Sea turned east across the Jezreel Valley, and at the foot of the Sea of Galilee crossed the Jordan River and went up to Damascus and on to Mesopotamia, Assyria, and Babylon. The other highway came out of Egypt, going across the Sinai desert and across the Negev desert onward and to the east of the city of Arab, and then crossed to the other side of the Dead Sea and continued north along the Jordan River to Damascus and northward. In this narrow strip of land, that is between 40 to 80 miles wide we read in the book of Genesis of seven nations that held possession of city states in the land of Canaan. Jerusalem was a Jebusite city, and there were areas of the land that were held by the Amorites, and other areas were under the control of the Girgashites. There were also the Philistines, who had five city states along the southern shore of the Mediterranean Sea, cities like Ashkelon, Ashdod, Gaza, Gath, and Ekron. What does this mean to have in this small land so many diverse and different ethnic groups that jockey for supremacy and control with an eye toward Egypt? This is the stage that God sent Abraham to. One of the messiest spots in the ancient eastern Mediterranean Sea. This is where God sends Abraham. This is the land that God gives Abraham and his decedents as an everlasting possession. This is the Land of Israel. Let’s go back to Abraham our father. In chapter 13:15, and in more than a dozen other places, God promised the land of Canaan as an eternal possession to the seed of Abraham. Here are just a few examples of God’s promises of the Land to Abraham and his seed: “…for all the land which you see I give to you and your descendants forever.” – Genesis 13:15 [NKJV] “And I will establish My covenant between Me and you and your descendants after you in their generations, for an everlasting covenant, to be God to you and your descendants after you. Also I give to you and your descendants after you the land in which you are a stranger, all the land of Canaan, as an everlasting possession; and I will be their God.” – Genesis 17:7,8 [NKJV] “Dwell in this land, and I will be with you and bless you; for to you and your descendants I give all these lands, and I will perform the oath which I swore to Abraham your father.” – Genesis 26:3 [NKJV] “He remembers His covenant forever, The word which He commanded, for a thousand generations, The covenant which He made with Abraham, And His oath to Isaac, And confirmed it to Jacob for a statute, To Israel as an everlasting covenant, Saying: ‘To you I will give the land of Canaan As the allotment of your inheritance…’” – Psalm 105:8-11 [NKJV] Here is what is special in this Torah portion! God had promised several times to Abraham that the land of Canaan is his and his decedents forever. This promise is repeated several times in the book of Genesis and in the other books of the Torah and in the book of Joshua, and on through the prophets and even in the Psalms. Yes, we learn from this portion of the Torah that up until the death of Sarah his wife Abraham didn’t take possession of one inch of land that was promised to him by the almighty God as an eternal possession. Now that Sarah his wife died he needs a place to bury his dead wife. But, Abraham does not claim the land that God has given him, he wants to pay for it, he wants to buy it at the full price, even above the full market price. So, what do we have here in the Word of God from which we can have an important lesson in Middle East political science? First Abraham approaches the Hittites of Hebron with great humility: “I am a foreigner and a visitor among you. Give me property for a burial place among you, that I may bury my dead out of my sight.” – Genesis 23:4 [NKJV] Abraham approaches the Hittites, who are also settlers in this land far from their homeland in the mountains of Anatolia, with a humility that doesn’t reflect the fact that God has already four times promised him and his seed this land of Canaan. He does not face the Hittites and say, “This is my land. The creator of the Universe the owner of the whole Earth gave it to me!” He comes with great humility and says: “I am a foreigner and a visitor among you.” Second, during these very Middle Eastern type negotiations with the Hittites, and with Ephron, Abraham doesn’t want to receive the land as a gift, and he doesn’t ask for a discount. Abraham insists on paying Ephron the Hittite what he asked, the full price. In addition, Abraham knows the mentality of the local residents of Hebron, and he insists on carrying out this business deal in public so that there will be many witnesses of this transaction, so that there will be no question of the legality of this purchase. Later on in the Bible we learn that Abraham and Isaac are buried in the same cave in Hebron. We learn that Jacob’s body is brought from Egypt to the Land of Canaan (Israel) to be buried in Hebron in the same cave. And we learn that when the children of Israel left Egypt and spent 40 years in the wilderness, they carried the body of Joseph with them and buried Joseph also in the same cave on the same land that Abraham purchased from Ephron the Hittite. I think that there are some very valuable lessons in this Torah portion, stories that instruct us on how to do business in the Middle East and to keep the peace and good relationships with our neighbors. Of course, in the 20th and the 21st centuries that we live in these days, our neighbors have changed and the issues of honor and fair business have almost passed from this world. So, there are lessons that we can learn from Abraham, and the patriarchs, Isaac and Jacob, in respect to the land of Israel, but not enough to deal with the elements that live within our boarders these days. However, regarding private and personal relationships with our neighbors, if we learn to act like Abraham our father, we would most likely will find that not much has changed in the land of Israel, as regards relationships with our neighbors. Here are the principles that Abraham is using in his dealing with potentially-hostile Hittite neighbors: 1. Be humble and not haughty with your neighbors, who have a history of having a propensity to be violent and aggressive. 2. In business, don’t accept gifts, because these gifts might cost you very much in the future. 3. Do business always with witnesses, and as far as possible in public and not in secret. 4. Don’t ask for a discount from your neighbors, because it might be interpreted as a debt that you will owe them in the next transaction. 5. Pay the price they ask you if it is reasonable. If they want to take advantage of you, as your transactions with our neighbors ought to be in public and with a paper record and documentation, then don’t be shy to express your gratitude for the business but also demand the documentation and registration of all business deals that you do with our neighbors. It is more important to be friends and remain friends than to do some hanky-panky and make a few dollars, but make an enemy. 6. Pray before and after such big business deals, like the purchase of land or a car from your neighbors. Ask God for help and to reveal to you the true honesty and sincerity of the neighbor that you want to do business with.
Please pray for Marcia my wife. Marcia is out of the hospital and at home. She is doing better but not yet fully herself as far as the dizziness is concerned. She definitely needs God’s healing hands to touch her and heal her. The blood pressure is still in need to be balanced and to stop dropping.
We are planning to fly to the USA in November for three weeks, and we ask you to pray. For our trip and for our health.
I had my eye surgery a week ago Tuesday. It was not easy and in fact it was very frustrating, but we all pray that it will turn out to be successful, and that all will go well. The challenge is that I will have to take medication against the rejection of the transplanted cornea for a long time, at least a year.
Please continue praying for the Christian brothers and sisters who are left in Afghanistan in the hands of the Taliban. These brothers and sisters are in grave physical danger for their lives. The more time that passes, the more the condition of our brothers and sisters in Afghanistan is not getting better.
Please don’t forget to pray daily for my family, especially for my wife Marcia, and Danah my daughter, and Noam my granddaughter, and Joey my grandson, and Barry and Beth my son and daughter-in-law.
Please keep praying for Steve (Asher) Mock, one of my disciples, a man of God, who had a CVA (stroke) and was in the ICU. Now Steve Mock is at home, but with big challenges in his speech and mobility.
Our dear friend Mahmud Abu-Eid’s sister Gouzlan is very sick, and also Mahmud’s mother needs our prayers. The Abu-Eid family is one of the finest and dearest families of Palestinian friends and soul brothers that we have. Please lift them up in your prayers.
Keep the Israeli government in your prayers. Even if the Coronavirus is abating and the numbers of the newly infected are declining, the necrosis in the halls of power in Israel needs much prayer. According to Isaiah, leadership issues are a sign of God’s displeasure with the nation.
Pray and support Netivyah during these very hard times, for opportunities to do good and to bless and feed and support the population of Israel, those in need whose number has increased by many percentage points during these difficult days in Israel.
Pray for our opportunities to do good and to be a blessing to the needy population in Jerusalem, and to believers who are students at the universities. God gives opportunities of joy and privilege and every opportunity that the Lord gives us to do good and to be a blessings, is also a test of our judgement and charity.
A test of our judgment is to make choices that are going to be a blessing to the most important and the most effective good works of God, in God’s name. The test of our charity is to give generously and with a good heart in order to honor our Lord and to show our faithfulness. Stand with us and enjoy the blessings!
It is very very seldom that I appeal for financial support for Netivyah. However, the situation with the Coronavirus in Israel like in the whole world has opened opportunities to do good and bless people (not only disciples of Yeshua) and to share the love and care of the Lord in a tangible way that is second to none.
Pray for your personal enemies if you have any, and especially for Israel’s enemies and terrorist states like Iran, and the Hamas in Gaza, and the Hizballah in Gaza and Lebanon… This is important, because when you pray for the good of these enemies you are actually heaping hot coal on their head. (See Romans 12, the last verses.)
Keep praying for the Rosenfeld family, the young and the old.

The needs in the neighborhoods of Jerusalem are growing because of the unemployment of this coronavirus period and the needs of these dear people are growing. In order to supply the increased number of families that we are helping, we need the Lord to impress you, our dear brothers around the world, to also increase your prayers for Jerusalem and take advantage of the opportunities that the Lord is giving you.

Please pray for both Danah our daughter, and Noam, our granddaughter and beg God to keep them safe from the Coronavirus and all other problems.
Keep Ruby Little in your prayers, our dear sister from Oklahoma City, who is also battling against cancer and add to your prayers Allison Howard Williams.

Keep praying for Nancy, Don and their son Aaron Hook, Rachel David Kim’s wife – Jingyung Lee. From Chennai, India, please remember Pastor Isaac. Pastor Isaac is an older man with severe kidney problems and has to have dialysis several times per week. Remember Tony and Louisa Tam, and our brothers and sisters at the 611 Church, and the other churches who love God and love Israel in that great city. Remember in your prayers the Cohen family in Hong Kong.
Just a word of grace before the mercy seat of the Almighty will be heard in favor of these brothers and Um Mahmud Abu-Eid and Jimmy Abu-Eid and his family, Keijo and Salme our dear brothers in Finland, Tim Tucker, Satu-Maria, Sinni Tuuli, Anne Mirjami our dear sister and all our other brothers and sisters in Finland who need our prayers, Eva H., Patty, Andrea, Julia and Victor, and Aaron Tani, and Hillel and his wife.

Pray for Israel. We are going through terrible riots and violence in the streets of Jerusalem and Tel-Aviv and other places around the country. These riots are motivated by the fact that much of the populace of Israel does not understand what the government is doing in relation to the Coronavirus pandemic.
I would like a new prayer request for a dear brother Yehuda Hochman who lives in the Negev Desert. Yehuda has to receive Dialysis treatment several times per week.

Noam our granddaughter also had her 18th birthday on May 1st. This was a very big day for Noam. She is free from high school and also from other obligations and is privileged to make her own decisions and choices in life. Pray for Noam on this major crossroad of life for her and ask the Lord to bless Noam and to give her clear direction and guidance for what is good and right and holy in her life.
Both Noam and Joseph, our two grandchildren, are extremely talented and good students. Both are “A” students and excellent young people, but both need divine protection and guidance to make good and smart and right choices for life.
When I was 18 years old and cut off from my family because of my faith in the Messiah, I had no one on my side and no one to guide me. The Lord’s providential leading and guidance was the only guide that I had. I praise the Lord for His goodness and direction in my life.
One last prayer request for this week. You will think that I am crazy and you will want to commit me to the “funny farm.” I am now teaching four days per week three hours each day in Harare, Zimbabwe, in what is called Yeshua College. In fact my title is “Academic Dean!”
All the students are from the Lemba tribe in Africa, they are all פastors and leaders in congregations. The challenge is enormous and the load for a 75-year-old man with high mileage for 60 years is also enormous. The need is also enormous and taking upon myself this load is crazy enough for a younger more capable man.
For an old one-eyed Jew it is more than enormous! It requires divine grace and strength and health and every other kind of physical and spiritual vitamin. This project was started and inspired and is financed by a dear friend who also needs our prayer.
Just pray for Joseph Shulam and for our dear friend R.W. Ask the Lord to bless him and his family and his work.
I wish all of you, who stand with Israel and who pray for Jerusalem, the best of the Lord’s blessings and the fulfillment of all His promises to His faithful children. Those who hear God and do His will are the ones who are called wise! Those who only hear His word and don’t do it are called foolish! Let us all strive to be wise and never foolish! The best is yet to come!
