예루살렘 기도 목록 – 2021년 10월 21일

창세기를 읽는 것은 언제나 경이롭고 도전을 주는 경험입니다. 제가 하나님의 말씀 중 어느 부분을 읽든 그 때마다 저는 도전을 받으며 언제나 새로운 것을 배웁니다. 그러나 창세기가 저의 깨달음의 총체인 이유는, 교회에서 “성경 이야기”로 어린이들을 즐겁게 하기 위해 보통 사용되는 창세기 이야기들 모두 도전적인 사실들로 가득 차 있기 때문입니다.
사실 저는 이 이야기들이 주일학교에서 어린이들을 가르치기 위해 사용되지만 성인 성경공부 교육을 위해서는 자주 사용되지 않는 것이 놀랍습니다. 이번 주가 그런 토라 포션 중 하나인 “바예라”, 창세기 18:1~22:24입니다. 그리고 하프타라에서 읽는 부분은 열왕기하 4:1-37이고, 신약성경에서 읽을 부분은 누가복음 1:26-38; 24:36-53입니다. 이번 주 파라샤의 이름을 따오게 된 첫 구절은 “바예라”로 시작됩니다. “바예라”는 “나타나셨다”로 번역됩니다: “여호와께서 마므레의 상수리나무들이 있는 곳에서 아브라함에게 나타나시니라 날이 뜨거울 때에 그가 장막 문에 앉아 있다가” – 창세기 18:1 이 장은 제가 이 기도 목록 앞에서 쓴 것의 좋은 예입니다. 아브라함은 전쟁에서 훈련된 20세에서 50세의 최소 318명의 장정이 있는 아주 큰 진영인 그의 진영과 함께 마므레 상수리나무들 곁에 있습니다. 세 명의 낯선 이들이 아브라함의 진영에 나타났습니다. 이 손님들은 완전히 낯선 이들입니다. 그는 그들을 전혀 모릅니다. 그는 그들을 전형적인 중동의 손 접대로 영접합니다. 본문 말씀은 이렇게 말합니다: 그가 장막 문에서 달려나가 영접하며 몸을 땅에 굽혀 이르되, “내 주여 내가 주께 은혜를 입었사오면 원하건대 종을 떠나 지나가지 마시옵고 물을 조금 가져오게 하사 당신들의 발을 씻으시고 나무 아래에서 쉬소서 내가 떡을 조금 가져오리니 당신들의 마음을 상쾌하게 하신 후에 지나가소서 당신들이 종에게 오셨음이니이다 그들이 이르되 네 말대로 그리하라.” – 창세기 18:3-5 이 본문에 대한 저의 첫 번째 반응은 아브라함이 전형적인 21세기 이스라엘인은 아니었다는 것입니다. 아브라함이 오늘날의 네게브 북쪽에서 장막에 사는 전형적인 이스라엘인이었다면, 그는 그의 총을 꺼내 그들에게 정중하지만 분명히 적대적인 목소리로 가라고 말했을 것입니다. 오늘날 네게브 광야에는 폭력이 너무 난무하고 너무 걷잡을 수 없어서 이스라엘 경찰조차 통제하지 못하며 사람들은 브엘셰바 시나 네게브 북쪽 소도시들의 마을 주위를 달리는 낯선 자들에 대해 불편해 합니다. 그런데, 우리의 본문으로 다시 돌아가 보십시오! 아브라함은 전형적이지 않은 겸양의 태도로 몸을 굽혀 이렇게 말하며 이 세 명의 낯선 이들을 영접합니다: “내가 주께 은혜를 입었사오면 물을 조금 가져오게 하사 당신들의 발을 씻으시고 나무 아래에서 쉬소서!” 어릴 때 저는 저희 아버지와 (아버지의 사업상) 네게브 북쪽 광야로 네게브의 셰이크 술래이만을 방문할 특별한 기회가 있었습니다. 셰이크 술래이만은 이스라엘 전역 베두인 아랍인들의 가장 중요한 셰이크 중 하나였습니다. 그는 저희 아버지를 손님 대접하기는 했지만, 아주 예우하는 손님에게 하듯 하지 않고 이스라엘 정부의 첩자 같이 대접했습니다. 네, 저희가 도착하고 몇 분 만에 커피를 대접받았고, 몇 시간 만에 음식을 대접받았습니다. 보통 음식은 그 주위에 견과류를 곁들인 산같이 쌓은 밥 위에 새끼 양을 통째로 내놓는 것이었습니다. 다시 아브라함으로 돌아가서, 제게 중요한 교훈은 아브라함과 사라가 직접 대접하고 완전히 낯선 이 세 명을 직접 영접했다는 것입니다. 이 때문에 히브리서는 이렇게 말합니다: “형제 사랑하기를 계속하고 손님 대접하기를 잊지 말라 이로써 부지중에 천사들을 대접한 이들이 있었느니라.” – 히브리서 13:1,2 히브리서 기자가 이번 토라 포션을 가리키며 손 대접을 권장하고 있는 것이 분명합니다. 사실 손 대접은 교회의 장로가 되는 자격요건 중 하나입니다. “그러므로 감독은 책망할 것이 없으며 한 아내의 남편이 되며 절제하며 신중하며 단정하며 나그네를 대접하며 가르치기를 잘하며” – 디모데전서 3:2 “오직 나그네를 대접하며 선행을 좋아하며 신중하며 의로우며 거룩하며 절제하며” – 디도서 1:8 “서로 대접하기를 원망 없이 하고” – 베드로전서 4:9 디모데전서 3장 구절과 디도서 1장 구절은 주님의 교회에서 장로/감독이 되고자 하는 사람의 자격요건입니다. 이것이 중요한 것은 전 세계 예슈아의 제자들의 몸을 장악한 현대 서구 문화 때문에 오늘날에는 손 대접이 아주 진귀해져 제가 열여섯 살 집 없는 신자였던 1960년대 초만큼 흔하지 않기 때문입니다. 저는 솔직히 1960년대 초 주님 안의 형제들이 더 나그네를 대접할 줄 알았다고 말씀드릴 수 있습니다. 사실 저는 예슈아를 믿지 않는 유대인들, 그냥 보통의 정통 유대교 유대인들도 제게 아주 친절하고 나그네 대접을 잘 했었음을 증언할 수 있습니다. 제가 미국에서 처음으로 갖게 된 양복은 켄터키 남부에 사시던 귀한 감리교도 자매님이 사주신 것이었습니다. 동절기용이었던 두 번째 양복은 테네시주 쿠커빌에서 의류와 양모 사업을 하던 종교인 유대인 형제 두 분이 사주신 것이었습니다. 저는 그들의 기분이 나쁠 정도로 알리야 하도록 도전했는데 그들은 저의 이스라엘인 특유의 대범함에 대한 반응으로 저를 현지 백화점으로 데려가 저의 첫 동절기 양복을 사주었습니다. 저는 손 대접이 유대인들과 아랍인들을 주님께 인도하고 싶은 사람의 중요한 자질이라고 말씀드릴 수 있을 것 같습니다. 아브라함의 손 대접은 이제 그만 넘어가서 이번 주 토라 포션의 신학적 측면으로 가겠습니다. 아브라함은 그의 세 명의 손님 중 한 분이 바로 주님(여호와)이신 것을 알아채지 못했습니다. 이것은 저 개인에게도 대부분의 유대인 토라 주석가들에게도 큰 도전입니다. 비-유대인 주석가들은 하나님(여호와)께서 친히 육체로 내려오셔서 그의 발을 씻게 하시고, 버터와 고기를 잡수시고, 아브라함과 말씀을 나누시고, 소돔을 멸하시려는 그분의 계획을 아브라함에게 드러내셨을 때 아브라함이 그분의 도덕성에 도전하는 것을 허용하셨다는 것을 그냥 받아들이고 문제를 간과하며 실질적으로 동의하고 인정합니다. 아브라함은 다음과 같은 말로 바로 주님(여호와)께 도전했습니다: “아브라함이 가까이 나아가 이르되 주께서 의인을 악인과 함께 멸하려 하시나이까?” – 창세기 18:23 제가 감히 아브라함이 주님께 한 말을 통역해본다면, 그것은 어쩌면 이렇게 될 것입니다: “제 정신이십니까? 주께서 무고하고 괜찮은 형제들을 저 나쁘고 나쁜 말종들과 함께 죽이실 것입니까?” 친애하는 형제자매님들, 가장 멋진 일은 아브라함이 주님께 했던 그 도전을 하나님께서 받아들이시고 소돔을 향한 그분의 작전을 수정하시어 아브라함의 의로운 도전을 기꺼이 들으셨다는 것입니다. 그러나 아브라함이 소돔에 대해서는 하나님과 쟁론하였으나 그의 아들 이삭을 제물로 바치는 것에 대해서는 하나님과 쟁론하지 않고 그의 아들 이삭을 구하기 위한 싸움 없이 그냥 하나님의 명령대로 갔기 때문에, 랍비들은 하나님께서 창세기 22장 이후로는 그냥 아브라함을 완전히 무시했다고 생각합니다. 아브라함은 너무도 순종적이고, 너무도 순응적이고, 너무도 신심이 투철하여, 그냥 명령을 따라 그의 약속의 아들 이삭을 데리고 가, 제단에 묶고, 그의 칼을 들어 하나님의 명령을 이행하려고 했습니다. 네, 하나님께서 양을 보내주셨고 이삭을 구하셨지만, 아브라함에게는 소돔의 경우와 다르게 그냥 하나님의 명령을 맹목적으로 순종하며 받아들이는 그런 맹목적이고 완전히 신뢰하는 믿음이 있었습니다. 그래서 하나님께서는 22장부터 아브라함이 죽을 때까지 그냥 아브라함과 소통하는 것을 그치셨습니다. 저는 이것이 이삭의 제사 이후 하나님께서 아브라함과의 소통을 그치신 이유에 대한 랍비들의 생각이라는 것을 깨달았으나, 아브라함과 주님 사이의 소통이 그냥 멈췄다는 것을 관찰한 것은 흥미로운 관찰입니다. 이 토라 포션에서 우리는 무엇을 배울 수 있을까요? 첫째, 하나님께서는 육신을 입고, 의심의 여지없이, 자신의 발도 씻게 하고 음식도 받아들이는 보통 사람의 모습으로 나타나실 수 있으십니다. 둘째, 하나님께서는 그분의 의로운 종들을 고려하시며, 그들 개인과 성도 공동체에 영향을 끼치게 될 수 있는 그분의 계획을 그들과 나누십니다. 셋째, 하나님께서는 그분의 의로운 종들을 존중하시고 때로는 그들의 말도 들어주시어 그들의 의견을 진지하게 받아들이십니다. 때때로 하나님께서는 실제로 그분의 작전을 수정하시기도 합니다. 이런 일은 모세 때 시내 광야에서 두 번 일어났고, 엘리야 때는 레바논에서 온 과부의 경우에 일어났고, 아브라함 때는 이 경우에 일어났습니다. 이 이야기에서 우리가 배우고 차용해야 하는 것은 예슈아의 삶과 희생에서 비롯된 의를 얻은 하나님의 자녀인 우리도 하나님과 대화를 나누며 예의를 갖춰 쟁론할 수 있고 그래야 하지만, 결국에는 그분의 현명한 판단을 받아들여야 한다는 것입니다. 이것은 메시아닉 유대인들과 일부 기독교인들이 기도하는 방식, 전능하신 분께 요청하는 방식, 그분의 피조물이자 그분의 자녀인 우리들과 우리의 하늘 아버지 사이에 나누는 의미 있고 정직한 대화의 방식을 극적으로 바꾸게 될 것입니다. 넷째, 믿음과 신실함은 아주 중요합니다. 아브라함은 이삭을 제물로 바치러 모리아산으로 이삭을 데리고 갔을 때 이것을 증명했습니다. 그러나 우리의 이성을 사용하지 않고 생각 없이 우리 주위의 다른 사람들을 고려하지 않고 붙잡고 있는, 때때로 이행하기까지 하는 맹목적인 믿음은 이스라엘의 전능하신 하나님이나 그분의 아들 예슈아께서 존귀히 여기지 않으시며 받지 않으실지도 모릅니다. 우리는 우리가 뭘 하고 있으며 그것을 왜 하는지 충분히 알고 성심껏 그 일들을 할 때에만 우리의 행동과 믿음에 신실한 것입니다. 하나님께서는 로봇이 필요하지도 원하지도 않으십니다. 그분께서는 어떤 일들을 생각하고 관계를 고려한 합목적적인 결정을 내릴 줄 아는 자녀를 원하십니다. 하나님께서는 우리에게 성경 본문 안에서 그분의 말씀을 통해 보는 눈을 주셨지만, 그보다 더욱 그분의 살아 있는 말씀, 말씀이 육신이 되어 오신 메시아 예슈아를 통해 볼 수 있게 해주셨습니다.
제 아내 마르시아를 위해 기도해 주시기 바랍니다. 마르시아는 지난 주 금요일부터 예루살렘에 있는 하닷사 병원에 입원해 있습니다. 그녀는 집에서 두 번이나 쓰러졌는데요, 혈압이 갑자기 떨어져서 그랬습니다. 그럴 때는 서 있을 때 머리가 핑 돌면서 균형감각을 상실합니다. 의사들은 아직 마르시아의 문제가 뭔지 찾지 못했습니다. 마르시아를 위해 기도해 주시되 주님께서 고쳐주시며 저희가 11월에 여행할 수 있을 정도로 저희의 일상이 회복되도록 의사들이 바른 선택을 하고 진단하도록 인도해 주시도록 기도해 주십시오.
내일 아침에 저는 예루살렘에 있는 하닷사 병원에서 또 다른 눈 수술을 받을 것입니다. 하나님께 저와 제 왼쪽 눈 수술을 집도할 의사들에게 은혜를 베풀어주시도록 기도해 주시기 바랍니다. 이번 것은 지난 번 수술 결과를 바로잡고 향상시키기 위한 수술입니다.
아프가니스탄에 남겨져 탈레반의 수중에 놓인 기독교인 형제자매님들을 위해 계속 기도해 주시기 바랍니다. 이들 형제자매님들은 목숨이 진짜 위험한 상황에 있습니다. 시간이 지날수록 아프가니스탄에 있는 우리 형제자매님들의 상황은 더욱 더 나아지지 않고 있습니다.

저희가 예루살렘의 빈궁한 사람들과, 대학교 학생들인 믿는 자들에게 선을 행하고 축복이 될 기회들을 위해 기도해 주십시오. 하나님께서 주시는 기쁨과 특권의 기회입니다. 그리고 선을 행하고 축복이 되도록 주님께서 저희에게 주시는 모든 기회는 우리의 판단과 자선을 테스트 하는 것이기도 합니다.
하나님의 이름으로 가장 중요하고 가장 효과적인 선한 일들에 축복이 될 선택을 하는 판단을 테스트하는 것이며, 주님을 영화롭게 하며 우리의 충성됨을 보여주도록 후하고 선한 마음으로 주는 자선을 테스트하는 것입니다. 저희 편에 서서 이 축복을 누리십시오!

The Jerusalem Prayer List – October 21, 2021

Reading the book of Genesis is always a wonderful and a challenging experience. Every time that I read any part of the word of God I am challenged and I always learn something new. But, Genesis is the sum total of my enlightenment because every one of the stories that are normally used in churches to entertain the children with “Bible Stories” is so full of challenging facts.
In fact I am surprised that these stories are used to teach children in Sunday School and often time not used to teach the adult Bible studies. This week is one of these Torah Readings, the portion of Vayera, Genesis 18:1 – 22:24, and the Haftarah reading is from 2 Kings 4:1-37, and from the New Testament the reading that we read is from Luke 26:38; 24:36-53. The opening statement after which the name of the Parasha is taken starts with the word Vayera. Vayera is translated into English with the word “appeared”: “Then the Lord appeared to him by the terebinth trees of Mamre, as he was sitting in the tent door in the heat of the day.” – Genesis 18:1 [NKJV] This chapter is a good example of what I wrote earlier in this prayer list. There is Abraham by the oaks of Mamre with his camp, a very large camp with at least 318 men who are trained in war and are between the age of 20 to 50 years old. Three strangers appear in Abraham’s camp. These guests are total strangers. He doesn’t know them at all. He welcomes them and with typical Middle Eastern hospitality. This is what the text says: he ran from the tent door to meet them, and bowed himself to the ground, and said, “My Lord, if I have now found favor in Your sight, do not pass on by Your servant. Please let a little water be brought, and wash your feet, and rest yourselves under the tree. And I will bring a morsel of bread, that you may refresh your hearts. After that you may pass by, inasmuch as you have come to your servant.” – Genesis 18:3-5 [NKJV] My first reaction to this text is that Abraham was not a typical Israeli from the 21st Century. If Abraham was a typical Israeli living in tents in the northern Negev today, he would pull out his gun and tell them to go away and in a polite but clearly hostile voice ask them to leave, gun in hand. Today the violence in the Negev desert is so rampant and so out of hand that even the Israeli police and everyone else is uncomfortable with any strangers running around the neighborhoods of the city of Beersheva and the other towns of the northern Negev. But, back to our text! Abraham, with such untypical humility, welcomes these three strangers by humbling himself with the words: “If I have now found favor in Your sight, please let a little water be brought, and wash your feet, and rest yourselves under the tree!” As a child I had the privilege of going with my father to the northern Negev desert to visit (for my father to do business) Sheik Suleiman of the Negev. Sheik Suleiman was one of the most important Sheiks of the Bedouin Arabs in the whole land of Israel. He welcomed my father, but not like a supper honorable guest, but like an emissary of the Israeli government. Yes, there was coffee served within a few minutes of our arrival, food was served after a few hours, normally it was a whole baby lamb served over a mountain of rice laced with nuts. Back to Abraham, the important lesson for me was that Abraham and Sarah themselves did the service and themselves welcomed these three total strangers. This is why the book of Hebrews says: “Let brotherly love continue. Do not forget to entertain strangers, for by so doing some have unwittingly entertained angels.” – Hebrews 13:1,2 [NKJV] It is clear that the writer of the book of Hebrews is referring to our portion of the Torah and encouraging hospitality. In fact being hospitable is one of the qualifications of being an elder in the church. “A bishop then must be blameless, the husband of one wife, temperate, sober-minded, of good behavior, hospitable, able to teach…” – 1 Timothy 3:2 “…but hospitable, a lover of what is good, sober-minded, just, holy, self-controlled…” – Titus 1:8 [NKJV] “Be hospitable to one another without grumbling.” – 1 Peter 4:9 [NKJV] The texts from 1 Timothy 3 and from Titus 1 are from the qualifications for anyone who wants to be an elder/bishop in the Lord’s church. This is important because now days because of the modern western culture that has overtaken the body of disciples of Yeshua world wide, hospitality is at a premium and not as common as it was in the early 1960’s when I was a young 16-year-old homeless believer. I can honestly say that my brothers and sisters in the Lord, in the early 1960’s, were more than hospitable. In fact I can witness to the fact that even Jewish people who were not believers in Yeshua, just regular Orthodox Jews were super-friendly and hospitable to me. The first suit of clothing that I had in the USA was purchased by a dear Methodist sister who lived in southern Kentucky. The second suit that was for winter was purchased for me by two religious Jewish brothers who ran a rag and wool business in Cookeville, Tennessee. I managed to offend them and challenged them to make Aliyah and in response to my typical Israeli chutzpah, they took me to the local department store and bought me my first winter suit of clothes. I would say that hospitality is one of the more important qualifications for someone who wants to lead Jews and Arabs to the Lord. Let me pass over the hospitality of Abraham and get to the theological side of our Torah portion. Abraham didn’t recognize the fact that one of his three guests is the Lord Himself. This is a major challenge, for me personally and for most of the Jewish commentators of the Torah non-Jewish commentators just accept it and ignore the problem and essentially agree and confirm that God (Jehovah) Himself came down in the flesh and had His feet washed and ate butter and meat, and talked to Abraham, and allowed Abraham to challenge God’s morality when God revealed to Abraham His plan to destroy Sodom. Abraham challenged the Lord himself with the following words: “Abraham came forward and said: ‘Will You sweep away the innocent along with the guilty?’” – Genesis 18:23 [NKJV] If I would dare to translate the words of Abraham to the Lord himself, they might possibly come out as: “Are you crazy man? “You are going to kill the innocent, the cool brothers, with those bad bad, with those bad bad duds?” The most wonderful thing, dear brothers and sisters, is that the challenge that Abraham put to the Lord was accepted by God and God modified His action toward Sodom and was willing to hear Abraham’s righteous challenge. But, because Abraham argued with God about Sodom, but didn’t argue with God concerning the sacrifice of his son Isaac, but just went on with God’s command without putting up a fight to save his son Isaac, the rabbis think that God just ignored Abraham completely after chapter 22 of Genesis. Abraham was too obedient, too compliant, too religious, and just followed instructions and took his son of promise Isaac, tied him on the altar and lifted up his knife ready to carry out God’s command. Yes, God sent the ram and saved Isaac, but Abraham had this blind, full-trusting faith in God, and unlike the situation about Sodom, just received God’s command blindly and obediently. So God just stopped communicating with Abraham from chapter 22, to Abraham’s death. I realize that this is a rabbinical idea of why God stopped his communication with Abraham after the sacrifice of Isaac, but it is an interesting observation that communication between Abraham and the Lord, the master of the universe, just stopped. What can we learn from this Torah portion? First, God can put on flesh and appear without doubt as a normal man, who needs to have his feet washed and receive food. Second, God takes into consideration His righteous servants and shares with them His plans, the plans that would affect them personally and affect the community of the saints. Third, God appreciates and sometimes even hears (listens) to His righteous servants and takes their comments seriously. At times God actually modifies His actions. This happened twice with Moses in the wilderness of Sinai and it happened with Elijah and the widow from Lebanon, and it happened in this case with Abraham. What we need to learn and appropriate from this story is that we, too, as children of God who have the acquired righteousness that comes from Yeshua’s life and sacrifice, can and ought to be able to talk to God and argue with Him respectfully, but in the end accept and receive His wise judgement. This ought to change drastically the way Messianic Jews and some Christians pray and make our prayers and our requests from the Almighty a meaningful conversation and an honest dialogue between ourselves, His creatures, His children, and our Heavenly Father. And fourth, faith and faithfulness is of great importance and Abraham proved this when he took his son Isaac up to Mount Moriah to sacrifice him. But, blind faith that is held and sometimes preformed without the use of our minds and without thinking it through and without consideration for others around us, might not be appreciated and accepted by the Almighty God of Israel or by His Son, Yeshua. We are only faithful in our actions and faith when we do things mindfully with full awareness of what we are doing and why we are doing it. God doesn’t need or want robots, He wants children who are able to think things through, and make relational and purposeful decisions. God give us the eyes to see through His word in the text of the Bible, but much more through His living word, Yeshua the Messiah, who became the word of God in the flesh.
Please pray for Marcia my wife. She is in the Hadassah hospital in Jerusalem since last Friday. She has fallen twice at home because of a sudden drop of her blood pressure when she stands and her head is turning and her balance is not working right. The doctors have not yet discovered Marcia’s problem. Please pray for Marcia and ask the Lord to heal and direct the medical doctors to make the right choices and make a diagnosis that will return us to our normal lives so that we will be able to travel in November.
Tomorrow morning I am going in for another eye surgery at Hadassah hospital in Jerusalem. Please ask God to bless me and the doctors who are doing this surgery on my left eye. It is a surgery to correct and improve the results of the last surgery.
Please continue praying for the Christian brothers and sisters who are left in Afghanistan in the hands of the Taliban. These brothers and sisters are in grave physical danger for their lives. The more time that passes, the more the condition of our brothers and sisters in Afghanistan is not getting better.
Please don’t forget to pray daily for my family, especially for my wife Marcia, and Danah my daughter, and Noam my granddaughter, and Joey my grandson, and Barry and Beth my son and daughter-in-law.
Please keep praying for Steve (Asher) Mock, one of my disciples, a man of God, who is in ICU in San Diego, CA. Asher had a second big (CVA) stroke with massive bleeding in the brain. The latest news is that the bleeding has stopped. Prayer for divine healing and restoration is needed for Steve (Asher) Mock!
Our dear friend Mahmud Abu-Eid’s sister Gouzlan is very sick, and also Mahmud’s mother needs our prayers. The Abu-Eid family is one of the finest and dearest family of Palestinian friends and soul brothers that we have. Please lift them up in your prayers.
Keep the Israeli government in your prayers. Even if the Coronavirus is abating and the numbers of the newly infected are declining, the necrosis in the halls of power in Israel needs much prayer. According to Isaiah, leadership issues are a sign of God’s displeasure with the nation.
Pray and support Netivyah during these very hard times, for opportunities to do good and to bless and feed and support the population of Israel, those in need whose number has increased by many percentage points during these difficult days in Israel.
Pray for our opportunities to do good and to be a blessing to the needy population in Jerusalem, and to believers who are students at the universities. God gives opportunities of joy and privilege and every opportunity that the Lord gives us to do good and to be a blessings, is also a test of our judgement and charity.
A test of our judgment is to make choices that are going to be a blessing to the most important and the most effective good works of God, in God’s name. The test of our charity is to give generously and with a good heart in order to honor our Lord and to show our faithfulness. Stand with us and enjoy the blessings!
It is very very seldom that I appeal for financial support for Netivyah. However, the situation with the Coronavirus in Israel like in the whole world has opened opportunities to do good and bless people (not only disciples of Yeshua) and to share the love and care of the Lord in a tangible way that is second to none.
Pray for your personal enemies if you have any, and especially for Israel’s enemies and terrorist states like Iran, and the Hamas in Gaza, and the Hizballah in Gaza and Lebanon… This is important, because when you pray for the good of these enemies you are actually heaping hot coal on their head. (See Romans 12, the last verses.)

The needs in the neighborhoods of Jerusalem are growing because of the unemployment of this coronavirus period and the needs of these dear people are growing. In order to supply the increased number of families that we are helping, we need the Lord to impress you, our dear brothers around the world, to also increase your prayers for Jerusalem and take advantage of the opportunities that the Lord is giving you.

Please pray for both Danah our daughter, and Noam, our granddaughter and beg God to keep them safe from the Coronavirus and all other problems.
Keep Ruby Little in your prayers, our dear sister from Oklahoma City, who is also battling against cancer and add to your prayers Allison Howard Williams.

Remember Tony and Louisa Tam, and our brothers and sisters at the 611 Church, and the other churches who love God and love Israel in that great city. Remember in your prayers the Cohen family in Hong Kong.
Just a word of grace before the mercy seat of the Almighty will be heard in favor of these brothers and Um Mahmud Abu-Eid and Jimmy Abu-Eid and his family, Keijo and Salme our dear brothers in Finland, Tim Tucker, Satu-Maria, Sinni Tuuli, Anne Mirjami our dear sister and all our other brothers and sisters in Finland who need our prayers, Eva H., Patty, Andrea, Julia and Victor, and Aaron Tani, and Hillel and his wife.

Pray for Israel. We are going through terrible riots and violence in the streets of Jerusalem and Tel-Aviv and other places around the country. These riots are motivated by the fact that much of the populace of Israel does not understand what the government is doing in relation to the Coronavirus pandemic.
I would like a new prayer request for a dear brother Yehuda Hochman who lives in the Negev Desert. Yehuda has to receive Dialysis treatment several times per week.

Please pray for our two grandchildren. They are both graduating in a few weeks from high school. They are both facing this important change in their lives. Noam our granddaughter also had her 18th birthday on May 1st. This was a very big day for Noam. She is free from high school and also from other obligations and is privileged to make her own decisions and choices in life. Pray for Noam on this major crossroad of life for her and ask the Lord to bless Noam and to give her clear direction and guidance for what is good and right and holy in her life.
Both Noam and Joseph, our two grandchildren, are extremely talented and good students. Both are “A” students and excellent young people, but both need divine protection and guidance to make good and smart and right choices for life.
When I was 18 years old and cut off from my family because of my faith in the Messiah, I had no one on my side and no one to guide me. The Lord’s providential leading and guidance was the only guide that I had. I praise the Lord for His goodness and direction in my life.
One last prayer request for this week. You will think that I am crazy and you will want to commit me to the “funny farm.” I am now teaching four days per week three hours each day in Harare, Zimbabwe, in what is called Yeshua College. In fact my title is “Academic Dean!”
All the students are from the Lemba tribe in Africa, they are all פastors and leaders in congregations. The challenge is enormous and the load for a 75-year-old man with high mileage for 60 years is also enormous. The need is also enormous and taking upon myself this load is crazy enough for a younger more capable man.
For an old one-eyed Jew it is more than enormous! It requires divine grace and strength and health and every other kind of physical and spiritual vitamin. This project was started and inspired and is financed by a dear friend who also needs our prayer.
Just pray for Joseph Shulam and for our dear friend R.W. Ask the Lord to bless him and his family and his work.
I wish all of you, who stand with Israel and who pray for Jerusalem, the best of the Lord’s blessings and the fulfillment of all His promises to His faithful children. Those who hear God and do His will are the ones who are called wise! Those who only hear His word and don’t do it are called foolish! Let us all strive to be wise and never foolish!
