예루살렘 기도 목록 – 2020년 11월 12일

이번 안식일 토라 포션은 “하예이 사라”, 창세기 23:1~25:18이고, 선지서의 글에서 읽는 부분은 열왕기상 1:1-31, 신약성경에서는 요한복음 4:3-14를 읽습니다. 이 토라 포션을 “하예이 사라”라고 부르는 이유는 아브라함의 아내 사라가 죽어 헤브론에 있는 막벨라 굴에 장사되기 때문입니다. 사라는 127세에 죽습니다. 이삭은 이제 37세로, 아직 결혼하지 않았습니다. 사라는 기럇아르바에서 죽었는데요, 그곳은 헤브론 바로 변방으로, 아브라함이 진을 친 곳입니다.
아브라함의 진영은 너무 거서 헤브론 성읍 안에 있을 수 없었습니다. 창세기 14장을 기억하시기 바랍니다. 아브라함에게는 20세에서 50세 사이의 장정이 318명 있었습니다. 이 연령대의 이 남자들은 아내가 있을 테고, 아마 자녀도 있었을 것입니다. 아브라함의 이 종들 각 사람에게 아내와 아이 한 명이 있다면, 954명이 될 것입니다. 이들은 아브라함이 가나안 땅으로 내려오기 전에 하란에서 얻은 영혼들입니다. “얻은 영혼들”이란 무슨 뜻일까요? 저는 이 예루살렘 기도 목록에서 믿기 어려울 정도로 특별한 기도를 좀 부탁드릴 것입니다.
1. 주님 뜻이라면, 마르시아와 저는 이번 일요일 2020년 11월 16일 밤에 미국으로 갑니다. 이것은 2020년 2월 이후 처음으로 해외로 나가는 것입니다. 코로나바이러스 사태 때 처음 여행이 될 것입니다. 그러므로 저희는 안전과 코로나바이러스로부터의 보호를 위해 여러분의 기도가 필요합니다. 저희는 또한 안전한 비행과 또 다른 문제나 이슈가 생기지 않고 미국에 안전하게 도착하도록 여러분의 기도가 필요합니다.

1. 전 세계를 위한 중보 기도를 계속해 주시고, 여러분 각자의 나라를 위한 기도에 집중해 주시되, 이스라엘도 잊지 마시기 바랍니다.
2. 다른 형제자매님들을 위해 기도하며 성령을 통해 메시아의 몸을 위해 중보하는 사람들에게는 하나님으로부터의 복이 있습니다.

우리 영적 지도자들이 우리를 회개로, 죄와 허물을 고백하는 데로 이끌고 지적하여, 주님께서 이 코로나바이러스를 이 땅에서 거두시고 우리가 주님을 기억하며 그분의 의와 진리의 길로 걸어가게 하도록 우리 모두 기도하며 격려합시다.

The Jerusalem Prayer List – November 12, 2020

The Torah reading this Shabbat will be Chayei Sarah, from Genesis 23:1 – 25:18, and the reading from the prophets is 1 Kings 1:1-31, and from the Gospels - John 4:3-14. The reason that this portion is called Chayei Sarah is because Sarah the wife of Abraham dies and is buried in Hebron in the cave of Machpelah. Sarah dies at the age of 127 years old. Isaac is now 37 years old, and is still not married. She dies in Kiryat Arbah, that is just outside of Hebron where Abraham is encamped.
Abraham’s camp was too big to be in the town of Hebron. Remember from chapter 14 of Genesis that Abraham had 318 men between the ages of 20 to 50. These men, in that age group, had to have wives, and probably children. If I add a wife and one child to each of these servants of Abraham it would be 954 souls. These are the souls that Abraham made in Haran before he came down to the land of Canaan. What does it mean to “make souls” it means to convert them, to evangelize? Jacob on his death bed is speaking to his children and he says: “The Angel who has redeemed me from all evil— Bless the lads. In them may my name be recalled, And the names of my father’s Abraham and Isaac, and may they be teeming multitudes upon the earth.” – Genesis 48:16 The Hebrew words used for “teeming multitudes,” could be translated as “who will be fished upon the midst of the earth.” This is the source from which Yeshua appropriated the concept of making his disciples “fishers of men.” Abraham was an evangelist. He “made souls in Haran” and these people followed him to the land of Canaan, as the Lord commanded Abraham. They too left their homes and left their families, and their birthplace, and followed Abraham, and without a doubt they too believed in the God of Abraham and did not worship idols like their forefathers did in Haran. That is the reason why Abraham always encamped outside the major cities of Canaan. He did the same outside of Shechem, and outside of Hebron. It seems like he encamped with his large camp and the places where he encamped were marked with a large tree that all would recognize as being his address: “Abram passed through the land to the place of Shechem, as far as the terebinth tree of Moreh. And the Canaanites were then in the land.” – Genesis 12:6 [NKJV] As you can see the Terebinth of Moreh is outside of Shechem (Nablus of today). “Then the Lord appeared to him by the terebinth trees of Mamre, as he was sitting in the tent door in the heat of the day.” – Genesis 18:1 [NKJV] The terebinths of Mamre are outside of Hebron. Until this day there is a big terebinth in Hebron that the tour guides show as the place of Abraham’s encampment in Hebron. If you want to do business with Arabs and some Jews of Middle Eastern backgrounds, you must study the negotiation between Abraham and Ephron the Hittite, the owner of the Cave of Machpelah. First, who are the Hittites? They are an Arian people from the center of Anatolia (middle of modern Turkey). They had a very developed material culture (archaeological architectural elements prove this, and they worked with Basalt, a hard black stone that is found in the Golan Heights. So, like Abraham they were not natives of the land of Canaan. There are no known natives of the land of Canaan in the book of Genesis. Every one that Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob had business with was from somewhere else. Jerusalem had Jebusites, and there where Hittites like those in Hebron and those living to the south of the sea of Galilee, as well as Perizzites, and Girgashites, and Amorites, and Philistines. Well, Abraham comes to look for a burial place for his wife. He is a formidable leader with a big camp, and he wants a permanent burial place for his family. So, he comes to Hebron and it is obvious that he has done his homework and knows exactly what he wants, the place, the name of the place, and the market value. He gets up from the days of mourning for his wife Sarah and goes shopping for a place of burial in Hebron. He tells the Hittites: “I am a resident alien among you; sell me a burial site among you, that I may remove my dead for burial.” – As you can see Abraham does not “beat around the bush.” He is direct and gets straight to business, “sell me…” The signal is that “I am not here to ask for a favor, or charity from you. I am here to do business with you.” He already knows the name of the owner of the place - Ephron. However, the Hittite culture much like the culture of today’s natives from the land of Israel, is seen here so very clearly. “Hear us, my lord: you are the elect of God among us. Bury your dead in the choicest of our burial places; none of us will withhold his burial place from you for burying your dead.” The Hittites in Hebron already know who this Abraham is, “my Lord, you are the elect of God among us.” Literally they are saying, “you are a president, a prince, among us. Any one of us would be happy to give you our burial places to bury your dead.” They are very gracious and generous to Abraham. However, Middle Eastern generosity should not be taken lightly, or it will cost you a whole lot of money in the end. Abraham knows this well and he responds: “If it is your wish that I remove my dead for burial, you must agree to intercede for me with Ephron son of Zohar.” As you can see Abraham is prepared and knows exactly what he wants. Never do business in the Middle East unless you have done your homework and your research, well before you start. “Let him sell me the cave of Machpelah that he owns, which is at the edge of his land. Let him sell it to me, at the full price, for a burial site in your midst.” Abraham also states clearly that he is not in need of charity, “I am willing to pay full price. I am not interested in discounts or favors from you Hittites.” Notice that all this time Ephron is right there with the rest of the Hittites, he is a part of this whole conversation. Now that Ephron heard Abraham, that he is willing to pay full price – Ephron pipes up! “Now Ephron dwelt among the sons of Heth; and Ephron the Hittite answered Abraham in the presence of the sons of Heth, all who entered at the gate of his city, saying, ‘No, my lord, hear me: I give you the field and the cave that is in it; I give it to you in the presence of the sons of my people. I give it to you. Bury your dead!’” – Genesis 23:10,11 [NKJV] The key point here is what Ephron said: “I give it to you in the presence of the sons of my people. I give it to you. Bury your dead.” The offer to give Abraham the cave and the field for free means that the property is not really Abraham’s – he will have to be indebted to Ephron and his family forever. If he wants to be buried with Sarah, next time it will not be a gift, it will be a totally different picture, and the price would be super high. So, Abraham carried out a clear and clean business deal, and the presence of the Hittite leaders now is only a benefit because they are witnesses to this kosher business deal. Now Ephron has a clear path to state his price and he does: “Then Abraham bowed himself down before the people of the land.” – Genesis 23:12 [NKJV] (A sign of acceptance and agreement with whatever price Ephron states. Because this is a public meeting with the Hittite people of Hebron, Ephron cannot be too greedy. He must function within the bounds of what is appropriate, or his own countrymen would look at him as a con man.) After Abraham bowed this is what happened: “…and he spoke to Ephron in the hearing of the people of the land, saying, ‘If you will give it, please hear me. I will give you money for the field; take it from me and I will bury my dead there.’ And Ephron answered Abraham, saying to him, ‘My lord, listen to me; the land is worth four hundred shekels of silver. What is that between you and me? So bury your dead.’” – Genesis 23:13-15 [NKJV] “…and (Abraham) spoke to Ephron in the hearing of the people of the land, saying, ‘I will give you money for the field; take it from me and I will bury my dead there.’ And Ephron replied to Abraham, saying to him, ‘My lord, listen to me; the land is worth four hundred shekels of silver. What is that between you and me? So bury your dead.’ And Abraham listened to Ephron; and Abraham weighed out the silver for Ephron which he had named in the hearing of the sons of Heth, four hundred shekels of silver, currency of the merchants. So the field of Ephron which was in Machpelah, which was before Mamre, the field and the cave which was in it, and all the trees that were in the field, which were within all the surrounding borders, were deeded to Abraham as a possession in the presence of the sons of Heth, before all who went in at the gate of his city. And after this, Abraham buried Sarah his wife in the cave of the field of Machpelah, before Mamre (that is, Hebron) in the land of Canaan.” –Genesis 23:16-19 [NKJV] This is valuable lesson when you do business or go shopping in the Middle East and Jerusalem is not an exception. When I say in the Middle East, I do not mean that only Arab merchants deal this way, Jews from Middle Eastern countries act the same, it is the local business culture. However, if you develop sincere friendships with merchants in Jerusalem and have that friendship tested over time, you have a totally different situation, and trust is built far beyond anything that you will see in the West. We see in chapter 24 similar dealings between Eliezer, Abraham’s servant who went up north back to Haran to find a bride for Isaac. Something was weak in Isaac’s relationship with women, and the reason is probably because of the sexual overtures that Ishmael had with Isaac when Isaac was a young child. “Sarah saw the son whom Hagar the Egyptian had borne to Abraham playing. She said to Abraham, ‘Cast out that slave woman and her son, for the son of that slave shall not share in the inheritance with my son Isaac.’” – Genesis 21:9,10 The word “playing” here is sexual play, and you can see this word in the story of Joseph where the wife of Potiphar the Egyptian master of Joseph, accuses Joseph of “playing” with her (Genesis 39:14). The very same Hebrew word is used – “le-tzahek” (to laugh, jest). Now it is clear why Sarah was so insistent on having Hagar and her son Ishmael immediately kicked out. And why she feared that Ismael was intending to destroy Isaac so that he would not receive the inheritance of Abraham. Well, I think that I better cut this study short, because everything is always so interesting and there is so much to discover and understand and to inspire.
I am asking you for some incredibly special prayers in this Jerusalem Prayer List.
1. The Lord willing, Marcia and I will be traveling, flying, to the USA on this Sunday night, November 16, 2020. This will be the first international trip since February 2020. It will be the first trip during the coronavirus. So, we need your prayers for our safety and protection from the coronavirus. We also need your prayers for a safe travel and safe arrival in the USA without any extra problems or issues.
2. We have a dear sister who is 95 years old and lives alone. She has been a paragon of good health and sanity, but just since the last month her health has declined dramatically, and we cannot leave her alone in her apartment. She has been a very faithful sister and immensely helpful for more than 40 years in the congregation. We must place her in a home for the elderly that has medical oversight. Her memory is failing, and she has fallen several times in the last couple of weeks. This sister is living on a minor pension from Finland. In Israel she does not even have a bank account. So, the privilege is, and the responsibility is ours, Netivyah must take care of this dear old sister. To take care of her is going to be costly, at least three thousand per month. She has no one in Israel other than her brothers and sisters at Netivyah and at the Roeh Israel congregation. It is a real “mitzvah” (good deed of charity), and it is a privilege for all those who want to take part in this mitzvah. Please consider as a church or as individuals to add some extra in your donations for Ilana – just mention her name in your donations. You know quite well that it is an extremely rare thing for me to ask for donations in general and for a specific case like Ilana it is extra rare and special. But, Ilana is one of those few giants who came to Israel after 1967 and volunteered in hospitals, and in caring for Jewish people and just poured out their life and hearts for Israel and to be a good witness of Yeshua in this land. We must take care of Ilana as long as the Lord gives her life.
3. Zacharias Waldner from Canada who is paraplegic has problem with sores and is asking for our prayers. Please add Zacharias to your prayer list.
4. Keep a dear brother in Asia in your prayer. Philip Marc is his name. Philip is a young man with a profoundly serious cancer. He is a truth seeker and faithful disciple of Yeshua who loves God and is a lover Israel.
5. Pray for Paulo C. Pereira Braga Dias. He is the father of a dear sister in Brazil.
6. Please keep praying for the whole list – just mention the names before the mercy seat of the Almighty One of Israel and Yeshua our Lord and ask for healing and blessing. It is a great privilege to pray for others and there is a blessing for you when you bless others. This is a biblical principle.
Israel is still under closure with limited mobility and most of the economy is shut down and many businesses are closed, at least until next Sunday night at midnight. The economy is devastated.
I wrote last week in the Jerusalem Prayer List that it is a good work to pray for people whom you don’t know personally and to pray for the world to recover and bring an end to this horrible pandemic called coronavirus. Corona is a crown, and I am not sure on the head of which king this virus is a crown.
1. Please keep doing intercessory prayer for the whole world, concentrate on your country, but don’t forget Israel.
2. There is a blessing from God to those who pray for other brothers and sisters and intercede through the Holy Spirit for the body of the Messiah.
3. It might seem like a small thing for us to pray a few minutes for brothers and sisters around the world, but in the Kingdom and in the heavens attention is paid by the authorities of goodness to caring and sincere intercession and prayer that conforms and confirms that the body of the Messiah Yeshua is truly one body.
a. Pray for all the former and present people that are involved with Korean Israel Bible Instruction Ministry.
b. Pray for the former board members of KIBI and those who need to repent and restore their relationship and that they may receive power from heaven to do so.
c. Pray for those members and academics that are and were a part of the Israel Forum.
d. Pray for those who have prayed so faithfully for the salvation of Israel and for peace in Israel.
e. Pray for the spiritual and physical health of all those in Korea who are still praying for the body of the Messiah in Israel and specifically praying and supporting Netivyah. May they be blessed inspired and filled with faith, hope and love for the Lord and for Israel.
Let us all pray and encourage our spiritual leaders to lead and to point us toward repentance and to confession of our sins and weaknesses, so that the Lord will lift this coronavirus from off of the Earth and that we will always remember the Lord and seek to walk in His paths of righteousness and truth.
I appreciate the prayers for my health and my eye. I see so much better with my eye than I did before the surgery. Thank you all for your prayers for me.
Please continue to pray for me and for my wife Marcia. Marcia has very little energy these days and sleeps most of the day. She is in pain from the Rheumatoid Arthritis and also her eyes have cataracts and since she is diabetic it is too dangerous to perform surgery.

Danah our daughter, needs much prayer for her situation and so does our granddaughter Noaam. Please lift Danah and Noaam in your prayers. Please lift Barry our son and his family, Beth, and Joey our grandson who are also staying at home and working from home during this time. Marcia’s mother June is 91 years old and her health is failing. Our sister from Jerusalem, Hadassah, had her surgery for cancer and is now at home recovering. Please keep her in your prayers.
Please pray for our brothers and sisters in Brazil. Brazil is one of the countries with a remarkably high rate of sick and dead people from the coronavirus. We have brothers and sisters all around Brazil, and I ask you to just say a prayer for divine protection and wisdom to keep them from this deadly plague. Pray for healing and strength for 70-year-old men by the name of Paulo C. Pereira Braga Dias. Also include in your prayers Caique de Oliveira Becker. These are people in Brazil that need the Lord’s special grace for healing. Please do not forget to lift and pray the young man Paulo, and for the Amaral family in Brazil.

I have just received a prayer request from a dear sister from Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Her father who is 70 years old and diabetic has contracted the COVID-19 virus. His name is Paulo C. Please see your prayer as casting a vote for healing before the Lord and His angels in Heaven in favor of every brother and sister that you are praying for. By praying for people who are your brothers and sisters, and whom you do not know personally, you are exercising the right to be God’s ambassador in what is called “agape love.” “Agape love” is the highest form of love, a love that does not look for earthly rewards or give and take, but just does the service of intercession in the kingdom of God.
You will be blessed by the almighty God who gives each of His children good for the good we do and recompense for the bad we do. Your sincere prayers for people around the world do the following things for the Kingdom, the King, and for the body of the Messiah:
1. They unite you and the body in a major transcendent bond of prayer.
2. They demonstrate the oneness of the people of God.
3. Your prayer shows that there are people outside the realm of the physical world and personal interests who have a sincere bond and relationship that is heavenly and not earthly.
4. The Lord knows His children and gives credit and reward according to His promises.

Her name is Hadassah and she just had cancer surgery. Pray for Hadassah for a full recovery and remission from cancer in her body.
Pray for Israel. We are going through terrible riots and violence in the streets of Jerusalem and Tel-Aviv and other places around the country. These riots are motivated by the fact that much of the populace of Israel does not understand what the government is doing in relationship to the coronavirus pandemic.
Businesses are closing and bankruptcy is happening to old established companies and businesses and even our national airline is on the verge of bankruptcy. People do not have money to put food on their tables. The number of people in need of basic food is growing.
Netivyah has been feeding the poor of Jerusalem for more than 25 years and we have a highly appreciated humanitarian ministry that is working with the Jerusalem municipality. As the demands for food for people who never before needed such help grows, I pray that the Lord will inspire and motivate brothers and sisters and ministries who can help with this to go to the webpage: www.netivyah.org and do what they can to make it possible for us to double or more than double, the number of people and families that we serve.
Our prime minister’s case is still before the courts. I am not happy that this is happening in Israel, but I am praying that true justice and righteousness is exhibited in our court system. The truth must come out and I am not interested in a second prime minister of Israel going to jail. We have had a president in jail, a finance minister in jail, a minister of interior affairs in jail, and a member of the parliament in jail. Enough!

Anarchist elements have taken the center of Portland, OR, and turned it into chaos, and disorder. So, please pray for Portland, OR, and for our brothers and sisters in that city.
The coronavirus is threatening the economy of the world with a great recession and depression. Some of our major supporters have already lowered the amount of their support. They have done this not only toward Netivyah, but for all the ministries that they are supporting, and they are many. I would like to first ask you to pray about your part in supporting Netivyah Bible Instruction Ministry.
Second, I would like for you who stand with us in prayer and financially to do your absolute best to stay on board with us and communicate. We realize that times will be hard for several years, but we also realize that God has chosen and blessed you for such a time as this.
Third please pray for a new project that we are starting in Israel in partnership with the Houses for Healing ministry from Abilene, Texas.
The aim is to provide hospitality for families of critically ill patients who are hospitalized in one of Jerusalem’s hospitals and who have no means to stay in hotels while their family members are in the hospitals.
This is a critical need especially in these days when there are hundreds of men and women who are in the Coronavirus ICU units for weeks and even months.
We need your prayer and your help to make this a meaningful and significant blessing both to the sick and to their families.
I wish all of you, who stand with Israel and who pray for Jerusalem, the best of the Lord’s blessings and the fulfillment of all His promises to His faithful children.
