이번 안식일 토라 포션을 시작하기에 앞서, 제가 드리고 싶은 말씀은 하나님의 말씀의 이 장들이 레위기보다 훨씬 이전, 함무라비 법전이나 에누마 엘리시와 같은 고대 법전에서 다루는 문제들과 유사한 몇 가지 문제를 다루고 있다는 것입니다! 이 법전들은 모세가 시내산에서 율법을 받기 수백 년 전, 어쩌면 천 년도 더 전에 존재했을지도 모릅니다. 그렇습니다. 도덕성, 사회 정의, 법 앞의 평등이라는 가치는 중동과 멀지 않은 바벨론과 다른 문화권에서 나온 법전들에서 이미 찾아볼 수 있었습니다.

저는 제가 사회법과 사회 정의를 다루는 측면에 관한 한 성경 전체에서 가장 중요한 장 중 하나라고 생각하는 장으로 바로 넘어가겠습니다. 제가 생각하기에 이 장은 문명적이고 정의로우며 모든 계층의 사람들을 배려하는 사회를 위한 것입니다.

이 중요한 구절을 이해하는 방법은 예슈아께서 신약성경 마태복음 22장 39절과 마가복음 12장 31절에서 이 구절을 인용하셨다는 점입니다. 이 구절 계명의 중요성을 이해하기 위해서는 레위기 19장 전체 맥락을 살펴볼 필요가 있습니다. 이 장은 다음과 같은 말씀으로 시작됩니다:

사실, 이 장 전체는 “네 이웃을 네 자신처럼 사랑하라”는 원칙 위에, 어떻게 이웃을 자신처럼 사랑해야 하는지에 대한 구체적인 지침을 제시하고 있습니다! 여러분이 진정으로 이웃을 자신처럼 사랑하고 싶다면, 이 장 전체의 가르침을 주의 깊게 살펴보고 순종해야 합니다.

레위기 19:9 “너희가 너희의 땅에서 곡식을 거둘 때에 너는 밭 모퉁이까지 다 거두지 말고 네 떨어진 이삭도 줍지 말며 10 네 포도원의 열매를 다 따지 말며 네 포도원에 떨어진 열매도 줍지 말고 가난한 사람과 거류민을 위하여 버려두라 나는 너희의 하나님 여호와이니라”

이 명령은 우리가 일해서 얻은 결실이 있을 때, 적어도 일부는 가족을 부양할 만큼 충분한 일용할 양식을 얻지 못한 사람들을 위해 남겨 두어야 한다는 것을 가르쳐 줍니다.

레위기 19:11 “너희는 도둑질하지 말며 속이지 말며 서로 거짓말하지 말며 12 너희는 내 이름으로 거짓 맹세함으로 네 하나님의 이름을 욕되게 하지 말라 나는 여호와이니라”

이 명령은 창세기의 시작부터 모든 세대에 걸쳐 우리 세상에 너무나 명확하고 절실히 필요한 것입니다.

레위기 19:13 “너는 네 이웃을 억압하지 말며 착취하지 말며 품꾼의 삯을 아침까지 밤새도록 네게 두지 말며 14 너는 귀먹은 자를 저주하지 말며 맹인 앞에 장애물을 놓지 말고 네 하나님을 경외하라 나는 여호와이니라”

레위기 19:15 “너희는 재판할 때에 불의를 행하지 말며 가난한 자의 편을 들지 말며 세력 있는 자라고 두둔하지 말고 공의로 사람을 재판할지며 16 너는 네 백성 중에 돌아다니며 사람을 비방하지 말며 네 이웃의 피를 흘려 이익을 도모하지 말라 나는 여호와이니라”

레위기 19:17 “너는 네 형제를 마음으로 미워하지 말며 네 이웃을 반드시 견책하라 그러면 네가 그에 대하여 죄를 담당하지 아니하리라 18 원수를 갚지 말며 동포를 원망하지 말며 네 이웃 사랑하기를 네 자신과 같이 사랑하라 나는 여호와이니라”

레위기 19:19 “너희는 내 규례를 지킬지어다 네 가축을 다른 종류와 교미시키지 말며 네 밭에 두 종자를 섞어 뿌리지 말며 두 재료로 직조한 옷을 입지 말지며”

레위기 19:29 “네 딸을 더럽혀 창녀가 되게 하지 말라 음행이 전국에 퍼져 죄악이 가득할까 하노라”

레위기 19:33 “거류민이 너희의 땅에 거류하여 함께 있거든 너희는 그를 학대하지 말고 34 너희와 함께 있는 거류민을 너희 중에서 낳은 자 같이 여기며 자기 같이 사랑하라 너희도 애굽 땅에서 거류민이 되었었느니라 나는 너희의 하나님 여호와이니라”

구약 성경에서 가장 유명한 구절 중 하나인 “네 이웃을 네 자신처럼 사랑하라”는 말씀의 전체적인 맥락을 이해하는 것이 중요합니다. 이 말씀을 전체적인 맥락에서 살펴보면, 문명화되고 질서 있는 사회를 위해 이 명령이 얼마나 광범위하고 중요한지를 알 수 있습니다.

우리는 젊은이들에게 이웃을 자신처럼 사랑하고 돌보라고 가르치지 않습니다. 어쩌면 가족을 부양하고 자녀 교육에 힘쓰느라 너무나 바쁜 현대인들에게 너무 많은 것을 바라는 것일지도 모릅니다. 하지만 제 생각에 교육은 단순히 책을 통한 지식 습득만이 아니라, “이웃을 자신처럼 사랑하라”는 신앙을 사회적이고 인간적인 방식으로 표현하는 것이기도 합니다. 어쩌면 자기 자신처럼까지는 아니더라도, 적어도 하나님에 대한 믿음과, 이웃을 사랑하고 보살피는 사람이 되도록 우리를 위해 자신의 목숨을 내어주신 예수님에 대한 믿음을 표현하는 것입니다. 나이 드신 형제자매들을 방문하고, 집안일을 도와주는 일과 같이, 이웃을 조금이라도 돕고 축복하는 것보다 다음 세대를 더 행복하고 만족스럽게 만들어 줄 더 좋은 삶의 교훈은 없습니다.

우리 모두는 깨어나서 하나님의 말씀을 삶의 지침서로 삼아 이 땅에서 하나님을 기쁘시게 하고 하나님의 명령에 순종하기 위해 우리의 믿음을 어떻게 활용해야 하는지 알아야 합니다. 여기에 사회 공동체에 대한 우리의 의무를 다루는 성경 몇 구절이 있습니다.

결론적으로, “네 이웃을 네 자신처럼 사랑하라”는 명령은 풍부한 신학적, 실천적 해석을 포괄합니다. 이는 도덕적, 사회적, 가정적 적용의 중요한 토대가 되며, 개인과 공동체가 더 큰 긍휼과 이해와 일치를 향해 나아가도록 촉구합니다. 이 원칙을 따름으로써 인류는 더욱 정의롭고 사랑이 넘치는 사회를 건설하고, 메시아 예슈아의 복음이 진정으로 의미하는 바를 세상에 더욱 잘 증거할 수 있습니다!

The Jerusalem Prayer List – 25 April, 2026

The Torah portion that will be read next Shabbat is one of the most important Torah readings for our times and, in fact, for all times. Some of the most important and well-known teachings that are essential for all orderly and moral societies are taken from our Torah Portion that will be read in every Jewish Synagogue around the world, and hopefully also by most so-called "messianic congregations!" This Torah portion is called in Hebrew "Aachari Mot-Kedoshim," meaning after the death of the two sons of Aaron, the brother of Moses, and the High Priest! Referring to the death of the two sons of Aaron that brought strange fire on the altar in the Tabernacle because they had drunk wine, too much wine.

This prayer list will be unusual because I am planning to bring before you, dear brothers and sisters, most of our readings on this next Shabbat from chapter 16 of Leviticus. This chapter has one of the most famous verses in the Bible that is quoted in the New Testament several times and emphasized by the Apostles. The way to read this Torah portion is to put the detailed commands of God to His Children, Jews and in Christ also the non-Jews, as road signs for living a godly life.

Aachari Mot-Kedoshim ((After the Death of the Holy Ones)) from Leviticus chapter 16:1-20:27!

From the Prophets, the reading will be from Amos 9:7-15.

From the Gospels, Mark 12:28-34.

As a broad introduction to our reading this Shabbat, I would like to say that these chapters from God's Word are dealing with some of the same issues that ancient codes of laws like the code of Hammurabi, the Enuma Elish, and others are, much earlier than the book of Leviticus! They are earlier than Moses and the giving of the Torah on Mount Sinai by hundreds, and may be even more than 1000 years. Yes, the level of morality and social justice and equality under the law, these codices of law from Babylon and other cultural settings, not far from the Middle East

I will jump on to the chapter that, in my opinion, is one of the most important chapters in the whole Bible, in respect of one of the most important chapters in the whole Bible dealing with social laws and justice for a society that would be called, in my opinion, civil, just, and considerate of all the strata of the population.

The way to understand this important verse is that it is quoted in the New Testament, Matthew 22:39, and Mark 12:31 by Yeshua. In order to understand the importance of this verse and command, it is necessary to look at the general context of all of chapter 19 of Leviticus. The chapter starts with the following words,

Leviticus 19:1

"And the LORD spoke to Moses, saying, 2 "Speak to all the congregation of the children of Israel, and say to them: 'You shall be holy, for I the LORD your God am holy."

The rest of the chapter is actually a set of rules that give the believer the basic rules of what it means in practice to be holy before the Lord.

One of the first thing that is required by the text in order to start being Holy is from

Leviticus 19:3

"Every one of you shall revere his mother and his father and keep My Sabbaths: I am the LORD your God."

The implication of this verse is that if a person does not honor "Revere" his mother and his father on earth, how could such a person revere and honor and obey his closest circle of people who raise him and give him life? How could such a person REVERE GOD who created the world? His Father and Mother who gave him life and raised him?

In fact, the whole chapter builds up the rules that give the words, "You shall love your neighbor as yourself," the detailed prescription of how you must love your neighbor as yourself! In fact, if you want to love your neighbors as yourself you need to take the whole chapter needs to be observed and obeyed.

Here are some of the practical rules of what it means to love your neighbor as yourself. Here are some of those rules from the same chapter on what it means to "Love your neighbor as yourself!" This chapter is concentrated with very important laws not only for the children of Israel coming out of the Long Egyptian bondage. The rules and regulations that this chapter brings to us, even now in the 21st century, are just as important today as they were for the Israelites who came out of Egypt and crossed the Red Sea on dry land. These laws are social and economical, and some have very universal implications for each of us disciples of Yeshua in the 21st Century. Let us dive into these words of God and embrace them for ourselves in order to be good disciples of Yeshua and good citizens and better fathers and mothers for our children.

Leviticus 19:9 "When you reap the harvest of your land, you shall not reap the corners of your field, nor shall you gather the gleanings of your harvest. 10 And you shall not glean your vineyard, nor shall you gather every grape of your vineyard; you shall leave them for the poor and the stranger: I am the LORD your God."

This command teaches us that when we work and have fruit earned from our work, there ought to be at least some left aside for those who have not been so blessed to earn their daily bread sufficiently to feed their families.

Leviticus 19:11 "You shall not steal, nor deal falsely, nor lie to one another. 12 And you shall not swear by My name falsely, nor shall you profane the name of your God: I am the LORD."

This command is so clear and so needed in our world from the very beginning of Genesis and throughout all generations.

Leviticus 19:13 "You shall not cheat your neighbor, nor rob him. The wages of him who is hired shall not remain with you all night until morning. 14 You shall not curse the deaf, nor put a stumbling block before the blind, but shall fear your God: I am the LORD."

Leviticus 19:15 "You shall do no injustice in judgment. You shall not be partial to the poor, nor honor the person of the mighty. In righteousness you shall judge your neighbor. 16 You shall not go about as a talebearer among your people; nor shall you take a stand against the life of your neighbor: I am the LORD."

Leviticus 19:17 "You shall not hate your brother in your heart. You shall surely rebuke your neighbor and not bear sin because of him. 18 You shall not take vengeance, nor bear any grudge against the children of your people, but you shall love your neighbor as yourself: I am the LORD."

Leviticus 19:19 "You shall keep My statutes. You shall not let your livestock breed with another kind. You shall not sow your field with mixed seed. Nor shall a garment of mixed linen and wool come upon you."

Leviticus 19:29 "Do not make your daughter a prostitute, to cause her to be a harlot, lest the land fall into harlotry, and the land become full of wickedness."

Leviticus 19:31 "Give no regard to mediums and familiar spirits; do not seek after them, to be defiled by them: I am the LORD your God."

Leviticus 19:32 "You shall rise before the gray headed and honor the presence of an old man and fear your God: I am the LORD."

Leviticus 19:33 "And if a stranger dwells with you in your land, you shall not mistreat him. 34 The stranger who dwells among you shall be to you as one born among you, and you shall love him as yourself; for you were strangers in the land of Egypt: I am the LORD your God."

It is important for us to see the full context of one of the most famous texts in the Old Testament. You see and read that the phrase "You shall love your neighbor as yourself!" In the general context of that statement and you will see how broad and how important this rule is for a civilized and orderly society.

You also see that it is actually an imperative and not a suggestion to love your neighbor as yourself. It is a command that chapter 19 of Leviticus gives us full detailed rules of what it really means to love your neighbor as yourself.

I have been a disciple of Yeshua the Messiah now for near 67 years and have been just about every week in some church service on Sunday literally in churches around the world in more than 50 countries. To my best memory I don't think that I have heard more than once or twice a Sunday sermon times a sermon on this important verse that is mentioned in the New Testament twice by Yeshua our Messiah.

We don't teach our youth to care and love their neighbors as themselves. Maybe it is too much to ask people living in our times that keep very busy providing for their families and paying for the education of their children. However, in my opinion, education is not only book knowledge but also the social and human expression of their faith, "to love their neighbors as themselves!" Maybe not exactly as themselves, but at least express their faith in God and in Jesus who gave his life for us to be people who care and love those who are our fellow humans. There is no better lesson in life that will make our next generations happier and more fulfilled than to help and bless their neighbors at least a little as themselves. Visit, help with home projects, old brothers and sisters.

We all have to wake up and look at the Word of God as a manual for how to live and what to do with our faith for our life here on this earth in order to please God and be obedient to God's commands. Here are just a few of the biblical texts that deal with our social community obligations:

In conclusion, "you shall love your neighbor as yourself" encompasses rich theological and practical interpretations. It serves as a critical foundation for moral, social, and familial applications, urging individuals and communities toward greater compassion, understanding, and unity. By adhering to this principle, humanity can cultivate a more just and loving society and be a much better witness to the world of what the Good News of Yeshua the Messiah really means!

Pray for the following brothers and sisters who need divine grace and the gentle touch of the hand of God for healing and strength.

Yes I am sick with cancer that is true. The cancer is non-Hoskins Follicular cancer in the pancreas, lungs, stomach. It is a slow growing cancer. There are no treatments with drugs and only medical following with MRI’s and Gastroscopes, nuclear FDG Cat Scans. Joseph is working full time and writing, preaching, traveling internationally and sharing the preaching in Jerusalem sharing the pulpit with our young leader Yehuda who is also doing a fine work for Netivyah. Please pray for me to have God’s healing of my body and protection for my travels in the summer to Finland to participate in a summer seminar for our brothers and sisters in Finland. From Finland to Japan and from Japan to Taiwan and from there to Hong Kong and back home to Israel.

I do need the prayers of our brothers and sisters around the world for the situation of the war in Israël. The enemies of israel are ancient and their enmity is deep with religions they have inherited hate for the Jews from biblical times, they are the descendants of Amalek and Persia is the continuation of Haman from the book of Ester who had designed to destroy the whole Jewish nation. Antisemitism in the world is growing and the disciples of Yeshua need to stand firm to stop the hate of Jews just because they are Jews and stand with and for the Jewish people! Yeshua our Lord is coming back to Jerusalem. Please pray protection also for our Arab brothers and sisters who are disciples of the Messiah who live in Arab lands.

 update Please pray for our dear sister, Lea Kurki who came to Israel in 1960s and served as a medical nurse in Hadassah hospital and now she is 100 with a home care taker.

 update Judy is 100 years old and has been placed in a special home for her needs.

 Pray for Adam’s father and mother, Barry and Dalia. They have some health problems and challenges.

 Pray for Miriam a dear sister old age dementia.

 Pray for Um Mahmud Abu-Eid, Jimmy Abu-Eid, and all of the family. This is a dear family of old friends that needs healing and wisdom for the children and for their work.

 Please pray for the Romero family, who live deep in the Negev desert. It is hot there, and they are far from our congregation, and we miss them.

In the U.K.:

 Pray for Deborah Isaiah. I pray for the Lord to find Deborah Isaiah and lead her to a blessed life, family, and a solution to her problems.

In Finland:

 Mauno Lemponen health has not changed which is a good thing. they are evaluating moving closer to other family members — prayers for Hilkka, Miika, and Ester who will support this possible change. Please pray as moving is always a big task.

 Keijo and Salme were in a car accident and Salme is recovering from a broken chest bone. Please keep them in your prayers for full recovery.

 Pray for Satu-Maria, Sinni Tuuli, Anne Mirjami, our dear sisters.

 Pray for Eva H., Patty, Andrea, Julia, Victor, Aaron Tani, and Hillel.

 Pray for the family of X in Finland who are waiting to see there children and Grandchildren to be in faith in the Lord. its stressful to not have all your children walk in faith.

In Denmark:

 Cynthia M asked that you for praying for her health. She has neutropenia and chronic asthma and I has been undergoing biological treatment with injections every two weeks since 2021 so I ask you to pray for better results and better health conditions as the symptoms, respiratory infections, medications and injections make me very tired every day.

 Mass has lost his wife and has small children. Please pray for Mass a this children as he navigates this major change in his life and the Childrens life. May God bless him with direction.

In Brazil:

 Hannah and her family are in Dubai. They are in need of prayer to make plans on either to leave or stay in dubai since that's where they are currently employed.

 Pray for a dear young man, Paulo, from Curitiba, Brazil, who seriously needs our prayers for sanity and mental health.

 Pray for a dear sister named Claudia Rita Souze Arau. She has cancer and needs God’s healing hands to touch her with healing.

 Pray for Deborah Ruth, a dear sister from China.

 Pray for Sister Yoko Nagumo in Japan.

 June V is asking for prayers for her grandchildren's needs. Its can be worrisome at times and we can all relate to praying over our grandbabies.

 Cindy - has been fighting spiritual battles at work for many years and is asking for God to open a door for her if it His will for her to move on.

 I ask for prayers for divine intervention in the lives of my sister-in-law “A” and her husband, my brother, “G” and their son. l am begging the Eternal for healing and salvation for this family.

 Shirley J heart surgery is needed since her stents did not work. She is asking for faith to be strengthened.

 Ray H. is having a similar health issue like Marcia Shulam did where id blood pressure drops when we stands up.

 Irina L. is in need of a kidney transplant. her kidney is beginning to fail and is only 26% functioning. Prayer for a suitable donor and wisdom for the doctors and medical team to maintain her kidney functions. (Irina is the twin sister of pastor Serge from Kazakhstan.

 Elisheva’s husband is recovering from a fourth surgery. on September 23 he will have a 5th surgery. Also prayer for healing for Elisheva's left leg and hip joint healing. Also a interview next week for a new job.

 Manny is asking for prayers for his fathers health that is in decline.

 new Shirleyann - is in a lot of pain after falling while going to a doctors visit. She was in the hospital for a couple of days checking her brain for bleeding and her spine for damage. Also a change in insurance is not covering all the medical supply needs. We are helping her with those needs she is short 100 pull ups a month. please pray the doctors and insurance can get the coverage back where it was.

 Jordan Issac - prayer for his treatments to work. Prayer for a mentor to step in and support him in his search for the Lord.

 Pete and Marge. Marge is undergoing test for Breast cancer and they are in the process of trying to get legal guardianship of their grandkids. They are both in the mid 80s. Please pray for strength and longevity to get these kids past college age.

 Aida Ramirez turned 100 this past Tuesday dec 23. is in a wheelchair recovering from a hip surgery and is dealing with dementia. continue to pray for her and her family (Aida Gonzalez is taking care of it)

 Pat S pain management has improved with some shots. Keep Philip who is 89 and is caring for Pat in you prayers.

 Larry is asking for prayers for his grandchildren. I would say most of us that have grandchildren are concerned about the states of the world. The state of intolerance. The temptations out there. Please pray for the holy sprit to guide them in making good choices.

 Juli got a good report on her last scan and she is also in remission. So praise God. Give thanks to the Lord for he is Good.

 Bill has been able to change the regiment where the side effects are manageable and we are thankful for that. We are praying for healing and strength and comfort for Jill and Bill.

 Barbra and Angie in Alaska. Barbra has some pains and discomfort related to old age. Please lift them in prayer for strength and reduction in pain.

 Please pray for Danah, my daughter's health issues. I pray for the Lord to give Danah wisdom, peace, and calm in life and her work.

 Aaron Hook, Nancy Hook’s oldest son, needs our prayers for wisdom and healing from past life issues.

 Pray for these important men of God: Rabbi Salt, his family, and Rabbi Hasselblad. They are both older and need protection and blessings.

 pray for Ilana Avramov, who is married to my cousin Nissim and lives in New York City. Ilana is home now. her health is in a decline like Marcia. She and Nissim both need our prayers.

 Pray for Steve Mock - His cognitive condition has declined, and we ask for the grace of God and His Healing and strength. Steve and Josie’s son Joseph has received a wonderful and glorious report. After the last bone marrow transplant, the report is that the doctors didn’t find any leukemia in his body! Praise the Lord!
