======================================================= The Jerusalem Prayer List – 21 February, 2026
by Joseph Shulam The reading of the Torah on Shabbat, Terumah (Contributions) Torah Exodus 25:1-27:19 Prophets I Kings 5:26-6:13 New Testament Hebrews 9:1-28 , Mark 12:35-44 The reading on this next Shabbat all around the world will be from another very interesting and challenging Torah portion called in Hebrew Teruma: Donation = Contribution. The contribution // Fund-raising in our Text is for the building of the Tabernacle in the wilderness of Sinai before the children of Israel will enter the land God promised to Abraham. Everyone in the world that I know has some goal or ministry or desire to help financially some good work, orphanage or hospital or university, or some old people’s home. Therefore, this Torah portion ought to interest just about everyone. Netivyah Bible Instruction Ministry, both in Jerusalem and in the United States, has been blessed with the contributions of people from literally around the world. Faraway countries that have no official political relationship with Israel have Christians that stand with Israel and support the good works of Netivyah Israel, together with our fellow Netivyah International, to bless the people of Jerusalem that receive a generous and healthy and fresh food on every Wednesday from the ground floor of Netivyah's ministry that is called Hamotzi. The word Hamotzi is in Hebrew, and it is one of the first words that religious Jews and sometimes not-so-religious Jews say when they pray and bless God for the food that they are about to partake. Hamotzi actually precedes the word "Lechem" = Bread in the standard Jewish prayer for eating. So, dear brothers and sisters! We will be reading on this Shabbat, February 21, 2026, from the portion of Teruma (contribution = donation) from Exodus 25:1-27:19, and from the prophets and the historical books from 1 Kings 5:26–6:13, and from the New Testament from Mark 12:35-44. Just a side note that might interest Christians about this concept called Teruma = Contribution. There is no obligation in the New Testament for Christians, especially from the diaspora or from our non-Jewish brothers and sisters, to give tithes (10% of their income). The pastors that teach this teaching and try to influence their parishioners to tithe and give 10% from their income to the church are teaching something that is not in the Bible. The only tithing (giving 10% commanded in the whole Bible is to the temple in Jerusalem. Only Israelites / Jews have this obligation, and the giving is not to any other institution or entity other than the temple in Jerusalem, and before there was a temple in Jerusalem, there was the tabernacle (tent of meeting that Moses and Aaron built in the Sinai wilderness) Now that I am finished with the introduction to today's Jerusalem Prayer List, I can dive into the text that will be read on this Shabbat of February 21. Here is Paul's command to the Church in Corinth, Greece. 1 Corinthians 16:1: "Now concerning the collection for the saints, as I have given orders to the churches of Galatia, so you must do also: 2 On the first day of the week let each one of you lay something aside, storing up as he may prosper, that there be no collections when I come. 3 And when I come, whomever you approve by your letters I will send to bear your gift to Jerusalem. 4 But if it is fitting that I go also, they will go with me." There is another text that is very interesting from Romans 15 that is also speaking of financial contributions from the churches that Paul had established in the Diaspora in the Roman Empire. This other mention of Contribution is dealing with the obligation that non-jews in the churches of the Diaspora have an obligation to contribute for the poor saints in Jerusalem. "For this reason, I also have been much hindered from coming to you. But now no longer having a place in these parts and having a great desire these many years to come to you, whenever I journey to Spain, I shall come to you. For I hope to see you on my journey, and to be helped on my way there by you, if first I may enjoy your company for a while. But now I am going to Jerusalem to minister to the saints. For it pleased those from Macedonia and Achaia to make a certain contribution for the poor among the saints who are in Jerusalem. It pleased them indeed, and they are their debtors. For if the Gentiles have been partakers of their spiritual things, their duty is also to minister to them in material things. Therefore, when I have performed this and have sealed to them this fruit, I shall go by way of you to Spain. But I know that when I come to you, I shall come in the fullness of the blessing of the gospel of Christ." (Romans 15:22-29 NKJV). This whole Torah portion is connected with detailed instructions about the building of the tent of meeting, the Tabernacle in the wilderness. Two full chapters of detailed description of the process and materials and architectural instruction for building a tent in the middle of the wilderness. There are so many exact descriptions and details about every part of this temporary structure, built from leather and wood, and specific cloth, and the furniture, and the tools that are for use in the sacrificial process on the altar. It is important for us to understand that God and the Holy Spirit dedicated several chapters describing in great detail the construction of the tabernacle in the wilderness. It was a temporary structure, built from local materials that would be found in the possessions of the children of Israel when they escaped from Egypt. Things like silver and gold and cloth that was rare and expensive in the ancient world of the Middle East. My question is this for all of us! Why do you think that God and the His Holy Spirit dedicated so much writing and details on something that is a portable tent, a place were very few people, namely the priests and the Levites would have access to and actually do some of the worship parts beyond the eyes of the general population of Israel that contributed so liberally of the wealth of Egypt that they took from the Egyptians before they departed from Egypt and crossed the Red Sea? The Haftara, the portion reading from the prophets, is also about construction, this time not in the wilderness, but in Jerusalem. Solomon building the temple on the high hill on the east side of Jerusalem. There is a full description of the materials used and of the amounts of Gold and Silver and wood and the construction of the furniture and the numbers of workers imported from Lebanon (Tyra). The text of the reading from the book of Kings is also full of strange things that the Holy Spirit of God wanted us to know and notice, and that is the cultural and religious influence that a large number of workers from Tyre in Lebanon brought with them to Jerusalem. Things that had nothing to do with the temple construction, but were influential to the text of the Bible, in order to demonstrate for us now in the 21st Century how the importation of foreign people into society will influence things that you might not want to influence. For example, in our reading in the book of Kings, there are foreign names of the months that were brought with them from Tyre to work on the construction work of the temple in Jerusalem. The names of the months Ziv and Bul appear in the context of the construction of Solomon's Temple only in 1 Kings 6 and in Kings 8. Here are the references along with their contexts: 1. The month of Ziv: 1 Kings 6:1, "In the four hundred and eightieth year after the Israelites had come out of Egypt, in the fourth year of Solomon's reign over Israel, in the month of Ziv, the second month, he began to build the temple of the LORD." This verse indicates that the construction of the Temple began in the month of Ziv, which corresponds to the second month in the ancient Israelite calendar (approximately April-May). 2. The month of Bul: 1 Kings 6:38. "He finished the temple in the eleventh year, in the month of Bul, the eighth month, and he built it according to all the specifications that he had been given." Bul is mentioned here as the month in which the Temple was completed, corresponding to the eighth month of the Israelite calendar month of Heshvan in the Hebrew calendar, October-November in the English calendar. These months, Ziv and Bul, appear exclusively in these passages and reflect Solomon's period of temple construction, showcasing some of the cultural and aspects that were influenced by the foreign influences that arrived in Jerusalem with the foreign pagan influences imported with the foreign pagan workers that came to Jerusalem to construct the temple. If this foreign pagan influence was imported with the King of Tyra Hiram's workers and was recorded here in the Bible in the book of Kings in the context of construction of the Temple of the God of Israel it means that the import of foreign masses of workers even for such a project of building the holy house of the Lord in Jerusalem and with these pagan foreign workers came foreign pagan culture (There is nothing more cultural than the calendar and the holidays and the practices that are imported from a different country and culture and with them their religion and set of beliefs.). Solomon is considered one of the great wise men in the Bible. When God gave Solomon a choice, what Solomon asked for was wisdom. Do we have in the Bible any references that Solomon asked God what kind of Temple (house) He, the almighty creator of the world, wants to have as his home in Jerusalem, in the heart of the people and the land of Israel? I don't think so! The model of the temple in Jerusalem was not unique as a house of God! It was the fashion for many of the temples of the foreign gods of our pagan neighboring nations. The architectural model of the Temple in Jerusalem is often described as a Canaanite or Levantine temple model, which draws from the broader architectural traditions of the ancient Near East, including structures found in Lebanon, Phoenicia, and other regions. This model has some certain key features that were common in the temples dedicated to various deities across the Middle East. The features of the Temple Model are called Hellani. The temple has a vestibule (entrance and like a welcoming space), and it has a sanctuary, "The Holy place," which is the first room after the main welcoming hall. Second, comes the "Holy of Holies" which is the place where mainly the priests serve the God (gods), and some important gifts that are given to the God are placed in front of the God on a special altar. Usually, the Holy of Holies is a raised space a little above the Holy space to have a physical sign of the superiority of that space. In a building constructed from stone or other durable materials, there was a double door between the Holy and the Holy of Holies. In other places that such temples were constructed like in Lebanon they used local construction material. Solomon was so intent to build a building for God's Temple that would compete with the neighboring countries that also had such fancy and well-built Temples, so he imported cedar wood from Lebanon to be used extensively for the structure of the temple of God in Jerusalem. He wanted to have the best of the best for both the house of God and his own house, too. For Solomon, the architectural similarities copied from the pagan temples of the neighbors indicate not only shared artistic endeavors but also cultural exchanges between the Israelites and their neighbors. As various peoples interacted for trade and diplomacy, there was an inevitable sharing of styles and religious practices. The temples of the pagan neighbors served as social and religious centers within their respective societies, hosting rituals, sacrifices, and festivals. Solomon built the temple in Jerusalem not only as the house of God, but as a monument to his own greatness. This, in my opinion, is the real reason why his son, whose friends were the sons of the kings in the neighboring countries, and from whom Solomon's son also got advice and shared their ideas. The great project of building a fancy and rich temple for the God of Israel with rich materials and great similarities and copies of Israel's neighbors is what brought the division of the land of Israel and the people of Israel to two separate and warring countries, Judea and Israel. Conclusion: With all the greatness and beauty of Solomon's temple and the good materials that were imported from Lebanon, the best of the best, the copy of the most favorable architectural models of temples from Tyra and Babylon, and even beyond. The box was beautiful, after one generation the inside was weak and corrupt just like any pagan temple with the same design. Here are the words of the Apostle Paul that were spoken right next to the Acropolis in Athens to the pagan leaders of the Athenian society: Acts 17:22: "Then Paul stood in the midst of the Areopagus and said, "Men of Athens, I perceive that in all things you are very religious; 23 for as I was passing through and considering the objects of your worship, I even found an altar with this inscription: TO THE UNKNOWN GOD. Therefore, the One whom you worship without knowing, Him I proclaim to you: 24 God, who made the world and everything in it, since He is Lord of heaven and earth, does not dwell in temples made with hands. 25 Nor is He worshiped with men's hands, as though He needed anything, since He gives to all life, breath, and all things. 26 And He has made from one blood every nation of men to dwell on all the face of the earth, and has determined their preappointed times and the boundaries of their dwellings, 27 so that they should seek the Lord, in the hope that they might grope for Him and find Him, though He is not far from each one of us; 28 for in Him we live and move and have our being, as also some of your own poets have said, "For we are also His offspring.' 29 Therefore, since we are the offspring of God, we ought not to think that the Divine Nature is like gold or silver or stone, something shaped by art and man's devising. 30 Truly, these times of ignorance God overlooked, but now commands all men everywhere to repent, 31 because He has appointed a day on which He will judge the world in righteousness by the Man whom He has ordained. He has given assurance of this to all by raising Him from the dead." 32 And when they heard of the resurrection of the dead, some mocked, while others said, "We will hear you again on this matter." 33 So Paul departed from among them. 34 However, some men joined him and believed, among them Dionysius the Areopagite, a woman named Damaris, and others with them. Pete and Marge. Marge is undergoing test for Breast cancer and they are in the process of trying to get legal guardianship of their grandkids. They are both in the mid 80s. Please pray for strength and longevity to get these kids past college age.
Aida Ramirez turned 100 this past Tuesday dec 23. is in a wheelchair recovering from a hip surgery and is dealing with dementia. continue to pray for her and her family (Aida Gonzalez is taking care of it)

After the last bone marrow transplant, the report is that the doctors didn’t find any leukemia in his body! Praise the Lord!
