Beshalach ("When He Let Go") describes the splitting of the Red Sea and the song the Israelites sing upon crossing through. In the desert, God sweetens bitter water and provides manna and quail. The portion ends recounting the victory of the Israelites against an attack by the Amalekites. The reading starts with these words spoken by Moses to all the camp of Israel that was ready to leave Egypt and be freed from slavery. Exodus 13:1: "And Jehovah spake unto Moses, saying, 2 Sanctify unto me all the first-born, whatsoever openeth the womb among the children of Israel, both of man and of beast: it is mine. 3 And Moses said unto the people, Remember this day, in which ye came out from Egypt, out of the house of 1bondage; for by strength of hand Jehovah brought you out from this place: there shall no leavened bread be eaten." These are the first words that Moses spoke about the Passover Feast that is still celebrated by Jews in every place and location that they might be living around the whole world. The Passover Feast is not only commanded to Jews, but it is commanded in the New Testament by the Apostle Paul for all the Christians both Jews and non-Jews in more than one place and with more than one example. Let me take you to the clear commandment of the Apostle Paul in the New Testament, 1Corinthians 5:6: "Your glorying is not good. Do you not know that a little leaven leavens the whole lump? 7 Therefore purge out the old leaven, that you may be a new lump, since you truly are unleavened. For indeed Christ, our Passover, was sacrificed for us. 8 Therefore let us keep the feast, not with old leaven, nor with the leaven of malice and wickedness, but with the unleavened bread of sincerity and truth." The Apostle Paul in this text makes it clear that the church ought to purge the old leaven and become a new lump, for indeed Christ, our Passover, was sacrificed for us. Understanding the Significance of Passover in the New Testament! The Passover feast is deeply rooted in Jewish tradition, commemorating the Israelites' exodus from Egypt (Exodus 12:1-14). Within the New Testament, the Passover plays a critical role in the context of Jesus's life and ministry. This essay examines how many times the Passover is celebrated, how many times it is mentioned, and its significance for Christians, from the Gospel of Matthew to the Book of Revelation. 1. Frequency of Passover Celebrations in the New Testament. The New Testament references the Passover in specific contexts but only explicitly mentions its celebration a few times. The synoptic Gospels—Matthew, Mark, and Luke—narrate the Last Supper as a Passover meal, thereby linking the Last Supper with the Jewish feast. The first mention in the Gospel of Matthew occurs in Matthew 26:17-29, where Jesus instructs His disciples regarding preparations for the Passover meal. Similarly, Mark 14:12-25 and Luke 22:7-20 recount this pivotal event. However, there is also a notable reference to Passover in the Gospel of John, which emphasizes its significance to the narrative. John mentions the Passover on several occasions—specifically, John 2:13, John 6:4, and John 11:55-57—which indicate that Jesus's ministry occurred around different Passover celebrations. In total, the New Testament highlights the Passover celebration explicitly during the Last Supper in the synoptic Gospels, suggesting a total of one major celebration prominently featured. 2. Mentions of Passover in the New Testament. The word "Passover" appears multiple times across the New Testament. Primarily, the Gospel of John contains the word frequently, dealing with events surrounding the feasts. The occurrences are as follows: - John 2:13: "The Passover of the Jews was at hand, and Jesus went up to Jerusalem." - John 6:4: "Now the Passover, the feast of the Jews, was near." - John 11:55: "Now the Passover of the Jews was near, and many went up from the country to Jerusalem before the Passover to purify themselves." - Matthew 26:17: "Now on the first day of Unleavened Bread, the disciples came to Jesus, saying, 'Where will you have us prepare for you to eat the Passover?'" - Mark 14:12 and Luke 22:7 also contain similar references to preparations for the Passover meal. In total, the term "Passover" is explicitly mentioned at least five times in connection with significant events surrounding the life of Jesus and His ministry in relationship with the celebration of the Passover Feast like all the Jews in the land of Israel did every year. 3. The Significance of Passover for Christians! The Passover Feast has most important significance for Christians. Christians ought to understand that all that is surrounding of the Last Supper, which is seen as a pivotal moment in establishing the Eucharist is connected with the Passover feast. Yeshua and the Apostles went up to Mount Zion specifically to celebrate the Passover. The theology of Jesus as the "Lamb of God" who takes away the sins of the world connects the Passover lamb in Exodus to Jesus's eventual sacrifice. Matthew 26:28 states, "For this is my blood of the covenant, which is poured out for many for the forgiveness of sins." This quote emphasizes the transformative nature of the covenant initiated by Christ, symbolized through the Passover meal. In Revelations, the symbolism of the Passover continues as well. Revelation 5:6 portrays Jesus as the slain lamb, echoing the imagery of the Passover lamb. The feast is representative of the ultimate deliverance from sin and death, analogous to the original Passover, where the Israelites were spared. I feel sad that my Christian brothers are so alienated from the Old Testament and Jewish tradition. This makes my Christian brothers and sisters distant from the very important roots of their faith in the Messiah. The Messiah is not a Christian. He is the Christ. The Messiah didn’t come down from heaven to start hundreds of Christian churches (Denominations) to separate the Gentiles (who were pagan idol worshipers before they died with Christ in Baptism and Raised into a New Life – See Romans 6). The Messiah came, according to the Apostle Paul in Ephesians chapter 2:8-10, to deliver the Gentile pagans who turned and believed in Christ to become a part of the commonwealth of Israel, to make them no longer Gentiles but a part of the commonwealth of Israel. See Ephesians, "And you He made alive, who were dead in trespasses and sins, in which you once walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, the spirit who now works in the sons of disobedience, among whom also we all once conducted ourselves in the lusts of our flesh, fulfilling the desires of the flesh and of the mind, and were by nature children of wrath, just as the others. But God, who is rich in mercy, because of His great love with which He loved us, even when we were dead in trespasses, made us alive together with Christ (by grace you have been saved), and raised us up together, and made us sit together in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus, that in the ages to come He might show the exceeding riches of His grace in His kindness toward us in Christ Jesus. For by grace, you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, not of works, lest anyone should boast, for we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them. Therefore, remember that you, once Gentiles in the flesh—who are called Uncircumcision by what is called the Circumcision made in the flesh by hands— that at that time you were without Christ, being aliens from the commonwealth of Israel and strangers from the covenants of promise, having no hope and without God in the world. But now in Christ Jesus you who once were far off have been brought near by the blood of Christ…" (Ephesians 2:1-13 NKJV) As this brief exploration illustrates, the Passover is significant for Christians from the Gospels to Revelation, underscoring themes of sacrifice, redemption, and covenant. Thus, comprehension of the Passover's importance enriches the understanding of the New Testament narrative and the foundation of Christian faith. The exodus from Egypt is one of the most traumatic and dramatic events in the history of Israel and also in the history of freedom and liberation, and in the formation of a nation out of a band of slaves that couldn’t even get along with themselves like today. An Analysis of Exodus 13-17, Judges 5:1-31, and Matthew 14:22-33: Lessons for the 21st Century The biblical text has always served not only as a historical record but also as a repository of lessons that remain relevant through the ages. In analyzing the passages of Exodus 13 to 17, Judges 5:1-31, and Matthew 14:22-33, we find thematic connections that resonate with contemporary concerns and offer valuable insights for today's youth. Exodus 13-17: A Journey of Faith and Trust Exodus chapters 13 through 17 depict the Israelites' journey from slavery in Egypt to the brink of the Promised Land. This journey is rich with lessons on faith, obedience, and the power of God's provision. Key moments include the Israelites' consecration, the crossing of the Red Sea, and the introduction of manna as sustenance. A prominent theme in these chapters is the concept of divine guidance. Moreover, the episodes of testing found in these chapters, such as the Israelites complaining about food and water (Exodus 16-17), illustrate mankind's inclination towards doubt in the midst of adversity. This reflects contemporary struggles with anxiety and the pressures faced by young individuals. The notion of divine provision, coupled with the call to maintain faith during trials, remains an essential message for today's generation. Exodus chapter 15 is the song of Moses. It is the song of victory over the enemy and over the Red Sea that the children of Israel crossed on land miraculously. Here is a short examination of this song of Moses that was sung by the children of Israel crossing the Red Sea. Exodus 15 begins with a jubilant declaration of praise. Moses and the Israelites sing in verse 1, "I will sing to the Lord, for He is highly exalted. The horse and its rider, he has hurled into the sea." This opening line sets a tone of triumphant worship, reflecting the relief and gratitude felt after their escape from bondage. The song recounts the Lord's mighty deeds, specifically focusing on the destruction of the Egyptian forces, highlighting God's sovereignty over nature and human oppression. The lyrics also delve into a narrative structure, commemorating the past while foreshadowing future events. The verses remind the Israelites of their identity as God's chosen people, emphasizing the covenant relationship between them and God. This covenant is characterized by divine protection and guidance, which will be pivotal as they journey through the wilderness toward the Promised Land. As the song progresses, it blends elements of theology and poetry, employing metaphors of strength and salvation. The imagery of the "Lord's right hand" signifies not only power but also salvation as a guiding force. The phrase "The Lord will reign forever and ever" (verse 18) serves as an enduring truth rooted in the belief that God's providence is unshakeable. As disciples of Yeshua navigate a world filled with complexity, confusion, and moral dilemmas, the relevance of the Song of Moses becomes increasingly profound. Here are several ways it holds significance: 1. Encouragement in Trials: Today's followers of Christ often face trials and tribulations akin to those of the Israelites. The Song of Moses reminds believers that God has the power to deliver them from adversity. This promise can instill hope and courage, assuring disciples that they are not alone in their struggles. 2. Motivation for Justice is a part of the very character of God that is clearly expressed in the song of Moses: The narrative surrounding the Exodus highlights God's concern for justice and the oppressed. Disciples today are called to advocate for justice and mercy in a world that often perpetuates inequality. Engaging in social issues can be seen as a modern extension of the themes found in the Song of Moses. 3. Anticipation of the Future: The Book of Revelation references the Song of Moses, linking it to the ultimate victory of Christ and Israel. By embracing the moral lessons and significance embedded in this song, believers can navigate their spiritual journeys with renewed hope, resilience, and assurance of God's unwavering faithfulness. Jenny has a praise report. She is going to be able to continue to drive her car. in the next couple of weeks she will have a procedure that will provide her doctors with a way to monitor her health remotely. She does so much for those that need someone to take them to doctors offices or need groceries shopping.
Shirleyann - I spoke with her today and she didnot mention recovering from her fall. she was full speed on prayers for others and encouragement. I take that a sign she is on the mend. Her doctors visit has good news and we are thankful. Praise God for small miracles.
Jordan Issac - prayer for his treatments to work. Prayer for a mentor to step in and support him in his search for the Lord.
Pete and Marge. Marge is undergoing test for Breast cancer and they are in the process of trying to get legal guardianship of their grandkids. They are both in the mid 80s. Please pray for strength and longevity to get these kids past college age.
Aida Ramirez turned 100 this past Tuesday dec 23. is in a wheelchair recovering from a hip surgery and is dealing with dementia. continue to pray for her and her family (Aida Gonzalez is taking care of it)
Pat S pain management has improved with some shots. Keep Philip who is 89 and is caring for Pat in you prayers.
Larry is asking for prayers for his grandchildren. I would say most of us that have grandchildren are concerned about the states of the world. The state of intolerance. The temptations out there. Please pray for the holy sprit to guide them in making good choices.
Juli got a good report on her last scan and she is also in remission. So praise God. Give thanks to the Lord for he is Good.
Bill has been able to change the regiment where the side effects are manageable and we are thankful for that. We are praying for healing and strength and comfort for Jill and Bill.
Barbra and Angie in Alaska. Barbra has some pains and discomfort related to old age. Please lift them in prayer for strength and reduction in pain.
Please pray for Danah, my daughter's health issues. I pray for the Lord to give Danah wisdom, peace, and calm in life and her work.

Pray for Steve Mock - His cognitive condition has declined, and we ask for the grace of God and His Healing and strength. Steve and Josie’s son Joseph has received a wonderful and glorious report. After the last bone marrow transplant, the report is that the doctors didn’t find any leukemia in his body! Praise the Lord!
