금년 마지막(첫) 안식일은 우리 앞에 세 작별 장면을 보여줍니다. 이 셋은 서로 다른 세상/시대로, 이스라엘의 마지막 족장 야곱의 작별 장면과, 예루살렘의 다윗왕의 작별 장면과, 마지막으로 다윗왕이 그의 왕궁을 두고 그의 시를 몇 편 쓴 곳에서 그리 멀지 않은 곳으로서 1세기 우리 메시아 주 예슈아께서 제자들과 함께 모이던 시온산 어딘가에서의 예슈아의 작별 장면입니다. 예슈아께서는 십자가를 지시기 전에 우리에게 우리의 마음과 생각에 계속 울려 퍼질 그분의 마지막 말씀을 남기십니다. 야곱의 임종 시 남긴 말처럼 우리 주 예슈아의 마음에서 비롯된 명령이고 이야기이며 그분의 말씀입니다:

마귀가 벌써 시몬의 아들 가룟 유다의 마음에 예수를 팔려는 생각을 넣었더라 저녁 먹는 중 예수는 아버지께서 모든 것을 자기 손에 맡기신 것과 또 자기가 하나님께로부터 오셨다가 하나님께로 돌아가실 것을 아시고 저녁 잡수시던 자리에서 일어나 겉옷을 벗고 수건을 가져다가 허리에 두르시고 이에 대야에 물을 떠서 제자들의 발을 씻으시고 그 두르신 수건으로 닦기를 시작하여 시몬 베드로에게 이르시니 베드로가 이르되 주여 주께서 내 발을 씻으시나이까

예수께서 대답하여 이르시되 내가 하는 것을 네가 지금은 알지 못하나 이 후에는 알리라

베드로가 이르되 내 발을 절대로 씻지 못하시리이다 예수께서 대답하시되 내가 너를 씻어 주지 아니하면 네가 나와 상관이 없느니라

시몬 베드로가 이르되 주여 내 발뿐 아니라 손과 머리도 씻어 주옵소서

예수께서 이르시되 이미 목욕한 자는 발밖에 씻을 필요가 없느니라 온 몸이 깨끗하니라 너희가 깨끗하나 다는 아니니라 하시니 이는 자기를 팔 자가 누구인지 아심이라 그러므로 다는 깨끗하지 아니하다 하시니라

“내가 너희 모두를 가리켜 말하는 것이 아니니라 나는 내가 택한 자들이 누구인지 앎이라 그러나 내 떡을 먹는 자가 내게 발꿈치를 들었다 한 성경을 응하게 하려는 것이니라 지금부터 일이 일어나기 전에 미리 너희에게 일러 둠은 일이 일어날 때에 내가 그인 줄 너희가 믿게 하려 함이로라” (요한복음 13:1-19)

우리 지도자들이 떠난 후 우리는 어떤 사람들이 될까?

야곱: 위로 전에 진리

야곱이 죽음에 가까워지면서 아들들을 불러 모았습니다. 그들을 위로하기 위해서가 아니라 진리를 말하기 위해서입니다. 그의 축복은 감상적이지 않습니다. 그는 성품적 결함이 있는 아들들의 이름을 말하고, 파괴적 힘을 금하고, 고난을 통해 책임을 배운 지도자를 확인해줍니다. 야곱은 생애 마지막에 침묵은 친절이 아니라, 직무 유기라는 것을 이해하고 있습니다. 진리를 말하기를 거부하는 세대는 혼란을 유산으로 남깁니다.

야곱이 약속의 땅에 묻히기를 고집한 것은 이 교훈을 한층 강력하게 합니다. 애굽은 안전함은 주지만, 정체성은 주지 못합니다. 언약이 없는 안락함은 미래가 아닙니다.

다윗: 권력(힘)은 율법에 부합해야 한다

다윗이 솔로몬에게 남긴 마지막 말 역시 정신이 확 들게 합니다. 그는 아들에게 하나님의 길로 행하라고 명하고 있으며, 또한 해소되지 않은 불의에 대해서도 말합니다. 다윗은 지도자가 역사를 무시함으로써 역사를 리셋시키지 않는다고 가르칩니다. 청산되지 않은 폭력 위에 세워진 나라는 결국 부서집니다.

다윗의 말은 모든 정치체계에 도전이 됩니다: 정의가 지켜지지 않는 한, 안정을 상속할 수 없다는 사실 말입니다. 도덕적 명확성이 없이 권력을 이양하는 것은 계승이 아니라 유예입니다.

다윗이 죽기 전 그는 아들 솔로몬에게 지시한 몇 가지 예는 이렇습니다!

다윗이 죽기 직전 아들 솔로몬에게 명한 이 멋진 격려의 말은 아주 멋지고 우리 각 사람이 지도자로서 우리의 삶에 모토로 삼을 필요가 있습니다. 저는 미국 복음주의권에서 강력하고 유명한 지도자들을 많이 알 수 있는 행운이 있었지만, “우리 주님의 명령을 지켜 그분의 길로 행하는 것은 미국 복음주의 진영의 많은 지도자들의 의제의 상위권에 있지 않습니다!” 솔로몬왕은 이스라엘 왕 중 가장 지혜로운 왕이라는 명성이 있습니다.

제 말은 제가 개인적으로 아는 모든 설교자와 장로님들에게 드리는 말입니다. 친애하는 형제님들, 날마다 성경을 읽기 시작하십시오. 그리고 여러분이 성경을 읽으실 때, 여러분의 의사가 여러분에게 처방해준 처방전 안에 동봉된 노트를 읽는 것처럼 읽으시기 바랍니다. 여러분이 본문이 말하고 있는 것을 무시하고 잊는다면 여러분의 건강, 혹은 여러분의 목숨이 위험에 처한다는 것을 인지하는 듯이 읽으십시오.

예슈아께서는 우리에게 어떤 필요나 어려움이 있을 때 진짜 경건한 권위의 본을 보여주십니다: 권위는 무릎을 꿇습니다!

신약성경 포션에서 예슈아께서는 예기치 못한 일을 하십니다. 배신이 곧 있을 것과 죽음이 임박했음을 알면서도, 예슈아께서는 명령이나 어떤 전략을 발령하지 않으십니다. 그분께서는 무릎을 꿇고 제자들의 발을 씻기십니다.

이러한 행동이 권위를 무너뜨리지 않습니다. 이는 권위를 재정의합니다. 선생은 그대로 선생이며, 주는 그대로 주입니다. 그러나 힘은 지배가 아니라 섬김을 통해 드러납니다. 메시지는 오해될 수 없습니다: 몸을 굽히지 못하는 지도자는 결국 몰락하게 된다는 것입니다.

• 진실 없는 연합은 깨지기 쉽다

• 섬김 없는 권위는 포악해진다

• 책임 없는 기억(추억)은 과거에의 동경이 된다

회당에서든 교회에서든, 이 본문들은 믿음은 우리가 어떻게 시작했는가에 의해서가 아니라, 우리가 무엇을 남기는가에 의해서 증명된다고 강조하고 있습니다.

한 해가 끝나고 새로운 한 해가 시작되는 이때, 성경 말씀은 지도자든, 부모든, 교사든, 시민이든, 우리 각 사람에게 이것을 묻습니다:

The Jerusalem Prayer List – 3 January, 2026

Jacob is on his death bed and the family including children and even some of the grandchildren. The Holy Spirit sees it necessary to remind us of the following in the first verse of our reading on Next Shabbat: “And Jacob lived in the land of Egypt seventeen years. So, the length of Jacob’s life was one hundred and forty-seven years.” (Genesis 47:28 NKJV)

A private message for our friends and supporters: When I think of the biblical narrative of Jacob’s life and family I don’t see a whole lot of happiness. Every possible happy occasion turns into a tragedy or almost a tragedy. From the very beginning of Jacob’s life from the very womb of Rebecca, Jacob has to struggle with his brother Esau first and again late on about the inheritance, and with just about every step of Jacob’s life there are obstacles with Laban his father-in-law, and dishonesty here and there on both sides and in spite of all the life of troubles and challenges with very few happy moments Jacob comes out a winner in the end. This is what this Shabbat’s reading is about! Heroes of our faith, Jacob and David and Yeshua our Messiah all had challenges and difficulties and often with some of the closest people and friends. The lessons that this last reading of the Torah, the Prophets and the New Testament are simple, deep, and challenging for me personally and I hope for most of the readers of this Jerusalem Prayer List.

By the way I very very seldom ask for donations to Netivyah in Israel or for Netivyah International that is a new entity designed and specialized in fighting antisemitism and anti-Israeli organizations and personalities in these crazy and so dangerous developments on the world stage against Israel and by this I say also against the God of Israel and the Messiah himself. Please pray for Netivyah in Israel and help in every way possible, but please don’t forget that our battle is no longer an Israeli problem alone. Please remember that the war against God and His nation Israel has become worldwide, from England to Australia. From South to North and from East to West. Netivyah Israel needs your financial help in order to feed the poor of Jerusalem and print the Teaching from Zion Magazine and support with needed equipment our men in the battlefield. But, Netivyah International is on a much wider and bigger challenge that is the very foundation on which the State of Israel exists. There are more than 100 countries members of the United Nations that have turned against their own Jewish population. There are killings and murders and closing of venues to Jews in countries that not long ago stood with Israel and for Israel.

When Leaders Prepare to Leave this world!

The first verse of our reading on next Shabbat are words Jacob speaks to his family in the end of his life. Jacob is on his death bed and blessings his 12 sons, some more and some less! The last words of Jacob’s life are blessings and some less than blessings. There are wishes and recommendations of Jacob to his sons before his soul is delivered to the Lord!

The readings are on this next Shabbat the last Shabbat of 2025. (Genesis 47:28–50:26; I Kings 2:1–12; John 13:1–19)

The final Shabbat of the year places before us three scenes of farewell. They come from different worlds—Jacob last patriarch of Israel, and from Jerusalem, by King David and finally from Yeshua our Messiah and Lord in the first century somewhere on Mount Zion gathered with his few disciples probably not far from the place where the King David had his palace and where he wrote some of the psalms. Yeshua speaks and leaves us with his last words before the cross. Words that ought to continue and reverberate in our hearts and minds. Yeshua our Lord’s words instructions and narratives from the very heart of Yeshua and like Jacob on his death bed, Yeshua gives us the following words:“Now before the Feast of the Passover, when Jesus knew that His hour had come that He should depart from this world to the Father, having loved His own who were in the world, He loved them to the end.

And supper being ended, the devil having already put it into the heart of Judas Iscariot, Simon’s son, to betray Him, Jesus, knowing that the Father had given all things into His hands, and that He had come from God and was going to God, rose from supper and laid aside His garments, took a towel and girded Himself. After that, He poured water into a basin and began to wash the disciples’ feet, and to wipe them with the towel with which He was girded. Then He came to Simon Peter. And Peter said to Him, “Lord, are You washing my feet?”

Jesus answered and said to him, “What I am doing you do not understand now, but you will know after this.”

Peter said to Him, “You shall never wash my feet!” Jesus answered him, “If I do not wash you, you have no part with Me.”

Simon Peter said to Him, “Lord, not my feet only, but also my hands and my head!”

Jesus said to him, “He who is bathed needs only to wash his feet but is completely clean; and you are clean, but not all of you.” For He knew who would betray Him; therefore, He said, “You are not all clean.”

So when He had washed their feet, taken His garments, and sat down again, He said to them, “Do you know what I have done to you? You call Me Teacher and Lord, and you say well, for so I am. If I then, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you also ought to wash one another’s feet. For I have given you an example, that you should do as I have done to you. Most assuredly, I say to you, a servant is not greater than his master; nor is he who is sent greater than he who sent him. If you know these things, blessed are you if you do them.

“I do not speak concerning all of you. I know whom I have chosen; but that the Scripture may be fulfilled, ‘He who eats bread with Me has lifted up his heel against Me.’ Now I tell you before it comes, that when it does come to pass, you may believe that I am He.” (John 13:1-19 NKJV)

What kind of people will we be after our leaders are gone?

Jacob: Truth Before Comfort

As Jacob approaches death, he gathers his sons—not to console them, but to tell them the truth. His blessings are unsentimental. He names character flaws, restrains destructive power, and affirms leadership where responsibility has been learned through suffering. Jacob understands that silence at the end of life is not kindness; it is abandonment. A generation that refuses to speak truth leaves confusion as its legacy.

Jacob’s insistence on burial in the land of promise reinforces this lesson. Egypt offered security, but not identity. Comfort without covenant is not a future.

David: Power Must Answer to Law

David’s final words to Solomon are equally sobering. He charges his son to walk in God’s ways, but also to address unresolved injustices. Leadership, David teaches, does not reset history by ignoring it. A kingdom built on unaccounted violence will eventually fracture.

David’s words challenge every political system: stability cannot be inherited unless justice is maintained. Passing on power without moral clarity is not succession—it is delay.

Here are a few examples of things that David instructed his son Solomon before David’s death!

Now the days of David drew near that he should die, and he charged Solomon his son, saying: “I go the way of all the earth; be strong, therefore, and prove yourself a man. And keep the charge of the LORD your God: to walk in His ways, to keep His statutes, His commandments, His judgments, and His testimonies, as it is written in the Law of Moses, that you may prosper in all that in all that you do and wherever you turn; that the LORD may fulfill His word which He spoke concerning me, saying, “If your sons take heed to their way, to walk before Me in truth with all their heart and with all their soul,’ He said, ‘you shall not lack a man on the throne of Israel.”

These wonderful words of encouragement from David to his son Solomon just before his death are absolutely wonderful and each one of us needs to take them as a moto for our lives as leaders. I have the good fortune of knowing many of the strong and famous leaders of the American Evangelical communities. “Keeping the charges of our Lord and walking in His ways is not high on the agenda of many of the leaders of the evangelical camp in the USA!” King Solomon has the reputation of being the wisest king of Israel.

I realize that before this David also gave other instructions to his son Solomon. The added instructions that David gave Salomon are political and not recommended to anyone who is not a king. Yes, I confess that sometimes our ancestors like David and most of the others allowed the barbarian human political instincts to take the stage and continue the regular human instincts to guide them. I confess that it is easier as a human being to allow our animal like nature to get the best of us and lead us to act simply too human! I do not apologize for some of David’s last instructions to his son Solomon. But the first instructions that I brought to you above are the right and true and wise ways for us as disciples of Yeshua to act, observing and honouring God’s commandments and instructions and that is always the healthiest and most effective in bringing good solutions to our problems and challenges.

My statement to all the preachers and elders whom I know personally. Please dear brothers start by reading the Bible daily and when you read your Bible, please read it like you read the note inside a new medication that your doctor prescribed to you. Read like you know that if you ignore and forget what the text says your health and may be your life is in danger.

Yeshua gives us example of what real godly authority does when there is a need or difficulties: Authority Kneels!

In the Gospel reading, Yeshua does something unexpected. Knowing betrayal is near and death is imminent, He does not issue commands or strategies. He kneels and washes His disciples’ feet.

This act does not abolish authority—it redefines it. The Teacher remains Teacher; the Lord remains Lord. Yet power is expressed through service, not domination. The message is unmistakable: leadership that cannot stoop will eventually fall.

Here the New Testament does not contradict the Torah or the Prophets—it embodies their deepest ethic. The one who holds authority must also carry responsibility for the lowest.

A Shared Paradigm for Every Community

Taken together, these texts form a single moral vision:

• Truth must be spoken before departure (Jacob)

• Justice must be secured before succession (David)

• Power must be tempered by humility (Yeshua)

They warn us that societies fracture not primarily because of ideology, but because leaders avoid accountability, confuse power with entitlement, and mistake silence for peace.

A Word for Our Divided World

Across political, cultural, and economic divides, these readings speak urgently:

• Unity without truth is fragile

• Authority without service becomes oppressive

• Memory without responsibility becomes nostalgia

Whether in a synagogue or a church, these texts insist that faith is not proven by how we begin, but by what we leave behind.

As one-year ends and another begins, the Scriptures ask each of us—leaders, parents, teachers, citizens:

Are we leaving clarity or confusion? The answer to that question will shape the next generation in your synagogue, messianic synagogue, or evangelical church. This Torah portion Vayechi and the texts from David and from Yeshua in this weeks Jerusalem Prayer List ought to reshape policy and the choices that we make, and the future that we plan and expect to become a reality. My prayer List this week puts me and you too in between two questions: Responsibility or resentment? Or Service and blessing to brothers in the faith or just neighbors or Entitlement?

The Lord blesses you and keeps you and provide all your needs and graciously plants in you and around you the joy of the Lord and the strength of faith and Christian values and Biblical wisdom and love for the suffering and generosity for the needy are both challenged in these times and days.

The Prayer List

Pray for the following brothers and sisters who need divine grace and the gentle touch of the hand of God for healing and strength.

In Jerusalem:

 Ilana Hanhijärvi is a dear sister who is 99 years old and suffering from memory problems.

 Please pray for our dear sister, Lea Kurki.

 Pray for Adam’s father and mother, Barry and Dalia. They have some health problems and challenges.

 Pray for Miriam a dear sister old age dementia.

 Pray for Um Mahmud Abu-Eid, Jimmy Abu-Eid, and all of the family. This is a dear family of old friends that needs healing and wisdom for the children and for their work.

 Please pray for the Romero family, who live deep in the Negev desert. It is hot there, and they are far from our congregation, and we miss them.

In the U.K.:

 Pray for Deborah Isaiah. I pray for the Lord to find Deborah Isaiah and lead her to a blessed life, family, and a solution to her problems.

In Finland:

 Mauno Lemponen health has not changed which is a good thing. they are evaluating moving closer to other family members — prayers for Hilkka, Miika, and Ester who will support this possible change. Please pray as moving is always a big task.

 Keijo and Salme are doing well. Both Keijo and Salme need your prayers for their health issues.

 Pray for Satu-Maria, Sinni Tuuli, Anne Mirjami, our dear sisters.

 Pray for Eva H., Patty, Andrea, Julia, Victor, Aaron Tani, and Hillel.

 Pray for the family of X in Finland who are waiting to see there children and Grandchildren to be in faith in the Lord. its stressful to not have all your children walk in faith.

In Denmark:

 Cynthia M asked that you for praying for her health. She has neutropenia and chronic asthma and I has been undergoing biological treatment with injections every two weeks since 2021 so I ask you to pray for better results and better health conditions as the symptoms, respiratory infections, medications and injections make me very tired every day.

 Mass has lost his wife and has small children. Please pray for Mass a this children as he navigates this major change in his life and the Childrens life. May God bless him with direction.

In Brazil:

 Pray for a dear young man, Paulo, from Curitiba, Brazil, who seriously needs our prayers for sanity and mental health.

 Pray for a dear sister named Claudia Rita Souze Arau. She has cancer and needs God’s healing hands to touch her with healing.

 Pray for Deborah Ruth, a dear sister from China.

 Tony Tam, his wife Luisa, and his son Marco need special prayers for their situation.

 prayers for Elle's husband to find a job, for her PRP injections and her family's needs.

 I ask for prayers for divine intervention in the lives of my sister-in-law “A” and her husband, my brother, “G” and their son. l am begging the Eternal for healing and salvation for this family.

 Shirley J heart surgery is needed since her stents did not work. She is asking for faith to be strengthened.

 Ray H. is having a similar health issue like Marcia Shulam did where id blood pressure drops when we stands up.

 Irina L. is in need of a kidney transplant. her kidney is beginning to fail and is only 26% functioning. Prayer for a suitable donor and wisdom for the doctors and medical team to maintain her kidney functions. (Irina is the twin sister of pastor Serge from Kazakhstan.

 Elisheva’s husband is recovering from a fourth surgery. on September 23 he will have a 5th surgery. Also prayer for healing for Elisheva's left leg and hip joint healing. Also a interview next week for a new job.

 Manny is asking for prayers for his fathers health that is in decline.

 Jenny is going to have some medical evaluations. asking for prayers for the best outcome that will not impact her current life plans and her ability to drive a car.

 I spoke with Shirleyann. Her skin cancer was treated and she has to put a cancer treatment cream on her spots daily. her follow up visit is Dec 4th.

 Jordan Issac - prayer for his treatments to work. Prayer for a mentor to step in and support him in his search for the Lord.

 Pete and Marge. Marge is undergoing test for Brest cancer and they are in the process of trying to get legal guardianship of their grandkids. They are both in the mid 80s. Please pray for strength and longevity to get these kids past college age.

 update Aida Ramirez turned 100 this past Tuesday dec 23. is in a wheelchair recovering from a hip surgery and is dealing with dementia. continue to pray for her and her family (Aida Gonzalez is taking care of it)

 Pat S pain management has improved with some shots. Keep Philip who is 89 and is caring for Pat in you prayers.

 Larry is asking for prayers for his grandchildren. I would say most of us that have grandchildren are concerned about the states of the world. The state of intolerance. The temptations out there. Please pray for the holy sprit to guide them in making good choices.

 Juli got a good report on her last scan and she is also in remission. So praise God. Give thanks to the Lord for he is Good.

 Bill has been able to change the regiment where the side effects are manageable and we are thankful for that. We are praying for healing and strength and comfort for Jill and Bill.

 Barbra and Angie in Alaska. Barbra has some pains and discomfort related to old age. Please lift them in prayer for strength and reduction in pain.

 Please pray for Danah, my daughter's health issues. I pray for the Lord to give Danah wisdom, peace, and calm in life and her work.

 Aaron Hook, Nancy Hook’s oldest son, needs our prayers for wisdom and healing from past life issues.

 Pray for these important men of God: Rabbi Salt, his family, and Rabbi Hasselblad. They are both older and need protection and blessings.

 pray for Ilana Avramov, who is married to my cousin Nissim and lives in New York City. Ilana is home now. her health is in a decline like Marcia. She and Nissim both need our prayers.

 Pray for Steve Mock - His cognitive condition has declined, and we ask for the grace of God and His Healing and strength. Steve and Josie’s son Joseph has received a wonderful and glorious report. After the last bone marrow transplant, the report is that the doctors didn’t find any leukemia in his body! Praise the Lord!
