최근, 이스라엘과 미국과 다른 나라들의 불안정한 정치 상황을 보면서, 저는 티투스 시대 로마 치하의 삶은 어땠을까 궁금해졌습니다. 그 시대 사람들은 뭘 생각하고 어떤 감정이었으며, 그 상황과 지도자들에 대한 그들의 반응은 어땠을까? 혹시 그들은 이스라엘의 상황이 정확히 사무엘상 8:1-22에서 그들이 왕을 구할 때 예언된 것과 똑같다는 것을 알았을까? 한 편으로 우리는 왕들을 두려워하지만, 또 다른 한 편으로는 왕들이 우리를 다스리기를 원합니다. 이와 똑같은 정신이 오늘날에도 있습니다. 이스라엘 국가는 민주주의 국가이지만, 우리는 여전히 왕을 찾고 있습니다. 국민을 섬기고 돕기로 되어 있는 정부는 너무도 자주 국민의 짐이 되며, 여러 모로 고난의 회초리를 휘둘러왔습니다. 요점은 우리가 이런 왕국에 만족하지 않는다는 것입니다. 1세기 회중을 보면서 저는 오늘날의 믿는 이들이, 1세기의 믿는 이들이 그들의 통치자들에게 반응한 것과 조금이라도 다르게 반응하고 있나 궁금했습니다. 우리 정부 지도자들에 대하여 믿는 자들로서 우리의 역할은 무엇일까요? 우리 시대의 지도자들은 과거 지상 나라들의 통치자들과 조금이라도 다른 점이 있을까요? 그것은 전부 바벨론 체제, 이 세상 체제입니다. 우리는 그것을 완벽하게 만들려고 노력하지만, 그것은 여전히 세상적입니다. 모세나 사무엘이나 다윗 같은 지도자들, 즉 하나님께서 택하신 사람들은 어디에 있습니까? 그들은 성령님의 음성을 듣고 인도 받았고, 성령의 기름 부으심을 받았고, 성령님의 뜻을 행했습니다. 그들은 직위나 직함이나 권력을 얻으려고 동분서주하지 않았습니다. 바벨론 체제는 오늘날까지 이어지는 정권들에 존재하고 있습니다. 사무엘을 통해 말씀하신 하나님의 말씀을 다시 보면, 과거에 뿌려진 말씀이 오늘날까지도 열매를 맺고 있는 것을 모르기가 어렵습니다. 그 체제는 왜 권력을 잡은 사람과 그들 주변에 그 체제를 떠받치는 자들을 그 권력으로 부패하게 하는 것일까요? 그것은 우리가 문제이고, 우리 안에 있는 죄일까요? 우리는 바울처럼 말할 수 있을까요, 오호라 나는 곤고한 사람이로라 이 사망의 몸에서 누가 나를 건져내랴? 로마서 7:24 우리는 정부를 시험하고 통제하는 자리에 있지 않고, 정부를 위해 기도하는 자리에 있습니다. 우리는 물리적 세계가 아닌 영적인 세계에 있으면서 다스려야 합니다. 선견자로서 우리는 결국 바벨론의 큰 성읍이 허물어질 때 저 나라들이 모두 무너질 것임을 압니다. 우리의 눈은 예슈아께서 다시 오셔서 여기 지상에 그분의 나라를 세우실 하나님의 산에 있습니다. 오늘날에도 우리는 그 나라 국민이며, 이곳이 우리의 정체성이 있는 곳입니다. 우리가 우리의 시민권이 어디에 있는지, 그리고 우리의 눈이 주님의 산에 있음을 안다면, 왜 엉뚱한 집 결혼식에서 춤을 추고 있는 것입니까? ------------------------------------------------------------ DANCING AT THE WRONG WEDDING
Throughout history, people have suffered at the hands of those who rule over them. Whether it be unfair taxes, their land being taken or even their children sold into slavery; the point is that the rulers were not there to serve the people.
Lately, in view of the current unstable political situation in Israel, the United States and other nations; I found myself wondering what life might have looked like under Roman rule during the time of Titus. What were the people of that time thinking and feeling; what was their reaction to the situation and leadership? Is it possible that they understood that Israel’s situation was exactly as foretold in 1 Samuel 8:1-22 when they asked for a king? In one way we fear the Kings but on the other hand we want them to rule us. This same spirit exists today. The State of Israel is a democratic country; yet we are still looking for a king. The government which is meant to serve and help the people all too often has become a burden on the people; inflicting a rod of suffering in many cases. The point being, we are not satisfied with this kingdom. Looking at the time of the first century congregation, I wonder if believers of today respond any differently than they did to their rulers. What is our role as believers to the leadership of our governments? Are our leaders so different from any of the past earthly kingdom rulers? It’s all about the Babylonian system, the systems of this world. We try to perfect it but it is still worldly. Where are the leaders like Moses, Samuel, David; men chosen by God? They heard and were led by His Spirit; anointed by Him to do His will. They did not run to gain a position, title or power. The babylonian system exists throughout government to this day. Looking again at God’s words through Samuel, it is hard not to know that the words sown back then are bearing fruit even today. Why is it that the system corrupts the person through the power given to them and those supporting systems around them? Is it that we are the problem, is it the sin in us? Can we say like Paul, O wretched man that I am! Who will deliver me from this body of death? Romans 7:24 It is not our place to try and control the government but it is our place to pray for the government. We need to remain and rule in the spiritual not the physical realm. As seers we know that eventually all those kingdoms will fall apart when the great city of Babylon is torn down. Our eyes are on the mountain of God where Yeshua will return to establish His Kingdom here on earth. Even today we are citizens of that Kingdom; this is where our identity lies. If we know where our citizenship is and our eyes are on the mountain of the Lord, why then are we dancing at the wrong wedding?
