예루살렘 기도 목록 – 2020년 12월 17일
요셉 슐람
이번 안식일에 우리는 요셉과 그의 형제들의 이야기의 중간에 있습니다! 저라면 요셉과 그의 채색옷 이야기라고 해야 할 것 같습니다. 이 브로드웨이 쇼는 아주 흥미로운 이름을 가지고 있습니다. 저는 이 브로드웨이 경가극의 제목을 통해 성경의 요셉 이야기를 새로운 관점으로 보게 되었습니다.
이번 안식일에 우리는 토라에서는 창세기 41:1~44:17, 선지서에서는 스가랴 2:14~4:7, 신약성경에서는 누가복음 24:13-29을 읽습니다. 토라에서 읽는 말씀은 다음 구절로 시작됩니다: “만 이 년 후에 바로가 꿈을 꾼즉(꾸는 일이 이루어지니) 자기가 나일 강 가에 서 있는데” – 창세기 41:1 “그런 다음 (그 일이) 이루어졌다 …”라니 도대체 어찌된 말입니까? 이런 종류의 말은 거기에 예정된 행동이 있을 경우에만 의미가 있을 수 있는 것입니다! 뭔가 예상되고, 계획된, 예를 들어, 감독이 시작 신호를 주고, 카메라가 돌기 시작하고, 배우들이 무대에 들어가 연기가 시작되는 … 그런 것입니다. 요셉 이야기는 모든 사람과 모든 시대에 전형적인 교훈이 됩니다. 요셉은 정상에서 시작했습니다: 그는 아버지의 사랑을 받았습니다. 요셉은 제쳐두고 우리를 그의 입장에 둬 봅시다. 여러분은 여러분의 부모님의 총애를 받고 응석받이로 자랍니다! 여러분은 가족이 줄 수 있는 최고의 것을 받아왔습니다! 여러분은 여러분 주위에 있는 사람들에 대해 관심이 없습니다. 여러분은 모든 것을 여러분의 시각으로만 봅니다! 여러분이 여러분의 아버지 집에서 경험하는 세상은 얼마나 멋진 세상일까요! 여러분은 그 집에 여러분과 함께 사는 다른 사람들이 있다는 것은 잊어버렸습니다. 그들에게는 채색옷이 없습니다! 겨울은 오고 있고 여러분의 “형제들”은 무채색의 코트조차 없을지 모릅니다! 한 술 더 떠서 여러분은 형들의 부아를 돋워 여러분의 웅장한 비전으로 그들을 시기 나게 만듭니다; “나는 해가 되고 형들은 내 주위에서 춤을 추게 될 거야.” 여러분은 어쩌다 쇼를 이끌어가는 배우가 되었을 뿐임을 잊어버렸습니다. 여러분의 형들과 부모님 역시 그 쇼의 배우들일 뿐입니다! 우리는 윌리엄 셰익스피어의 “당신 좋으실 대로” 2막 7장 대사를 잊으면 안 될 것입니다: 쟈크가 노 공작에게 온 세상은 무대이며,
모든 남자와 여자는 배우에 불과할 뿐입니다;
그들은 각자 등장했다가 퇴장하고,
한 사람은 생애 동안 여러 역할을 합니다,
그의 역할은 일곱 시기로 나뉘어 있습니다. 첫째는 유년기로,
유모의 품 안에서 칭얼대기도 하고 토하기도 하지요.
그 다음은 징징거리는 학생으로, 작은 가방을 가지고
반짝반짝하는 아침 얼굴로 달팽이처럼 느릿느릿
학교에 가고 싶어 하지 않지요. 그리고 그 다음은 사랑에 빠진 사람으로,
용광로처럼 한 숨을 내쉬며, 슬픈 발라드로
그의 연인의 눈썹을 치켜 올리게 만들지요. 그 다음은 군인이 되어,
이상한 맹세 투성이에, 표범처럼 수염을 기르고,
명예를 지키려고 애쓰며, 느닷없이 빠르게 싸움에 빠져들고,
심지어 대포 포구 속에서도 허명을 구하지요. 그 다음은 판사로,
코트 주머니에 테를 두른 볼록한 배에,
엄한 눈매와 단정히 자른 수염을 하고,
옛 격언과 현대의 실례로 가득하여,
그렇게 그의 역할을 합니다. 여섯 번째 시기는
야위고 슬리퍼를 신은 노인으로 넘어갑니다;
콧등에 안경을 걸치고 옆에는 쌈지를 차고,
그의 발랄한 긴 양말은 잘 아껴두었네요,
그의 수척해진 정강이에 비해 세상은 너무 넓고,
그의 크고 남성스러운 목소리는
다시금 아이같이 고음으로 바뀌어, 쇳소리를 내지요.
이 이상한 사건으로 가득한 역사를 끝내는 마지막 장면은,
다시금 어린애 같고 그저 잊혀지는 것입니다,
이도 없고, 눈도 없고, 미각도 없고, 모든 것이 없이 말이지요. 성경의 요셉 이야기의 정수는, 우리 개인사든, 이집트나 로마 같은 제국의 역사나 하나님의 세계의 어떤 세력의 역사든, 역사를 몰아가는 힘은 우리를 초월하여 계시다는 것입니다. 우리는 무력하지도 않고, 로봇도 아닙니다. 우리는 우리의 숙명을 결정할 자유의지가 있지만, 우리의 숙명을 초월하여 하나님의 세계의 숙명도 있습니다. 창세 전에 예정된 그 숙명은 변하지 않을 것입니다. 이 세상은 시작과 끝이 있도록 창조되었습니다. 우주의 다른 모든 세계와 은하계처럼 우리 은하계도 하루는 신성이 되었다가 다음 날 “블랙홀”이 될 것입니다. 그렇습니다, 여러분은 성경에서, 구약에서도 신약에서도 이 이론을 찾아보실 수 있습니다! 우리는 우리 행성과 우리 태양계를 다스리는 “누군가”가 있다는 것을 좋아하지 않을지도 모릅니다! 죄송하지만, 저는 이것에 대해 아무 것도 할 수 없으며, 여러분도, 이 지구상 모든 나라와 국민의 대통령이나 수상이나 정부에 있는 그 누구도 이에 대해 아무 것도 할 수 없습니다. 요셉 이야기에서 최고의 장면은 그의 이야기의 결말로서, 가장 중요한 부분입니다! 그는 형들과 화해하고, 화해와 관계 회복이 있고, 가족이 다시 하나가 되어 거의 200년 동안 애굽의 부와 고센 땅에서 주님의 풍부한 공급을 누립니다! 제가 이야기를 계속하여 해상도를 더 높여 요셉의 이야기를 살펴보도록 하겠습니다. 요셉 이야기는 그 시작부터, 즉 그가 태어날 때부터 요셉은 특별합니다. 그는 오랫동안 아이를 갖지 못하던 야곱의 아내 라헬에게서 태어납니다. 마침내 라헬이 아들 요셉을 낳습니다! 이 아들은 라헬이 오래 기다려온 아들입니다! 요셉은 야곱이 바라던 아들입니다. 야곱은 늘 그가 사랑하는 아내에게서 아들을 얻고 싶어 했습니다. 그가 얻기 위해 14년을 일했고 결혼 후 요셉이 태어나기까지 20년 넘게 걸린 그 아내입니다. 야곱이 요셉을 특별하게 여기는 것도 이상하지 않습니다. 그는 야곱이 사랑한 아내 라헬에게서 난 아들이었습니다. 이 큰 이점, 야곱이 요셉에 대해 갖고 있는 특별한 사랑은 요셉의 최대의 도전이 되었습니다. 요셉의 도전 외에도 하나님께서는 그에게 특별한 장소와 숙명을 가지고 계셨습니다. 요셉에게 그가 그의 형들보다, 심지어 그의 부모님보다 더 위대해진다는 비전을 주신 분은 하나님이셨습니다. 이스라엘과 세상의 구속이라는 웅장한 계획 속에 있는 이런 비범한 역할이, 부모님의 총애를 받으며 응석받이로 자라며 열 형들보다 더 예쁨 받은 바로 이 젊은이에게 놓였습니다. 여기에 우리 각 사람에게 주는 교훈이 있습니다! 구름 뒤에는 은빛 햇살이 있는 법이고, 은빛 햇살 다음에는 또 구름이 오는 법이지요! 주님께서 우리에게 복 주시는 모든 복에는 책임과 도전이 따르며, 우리가 하나님께서 우리에게 주신 은사와 달란트를 정당하고 의롭게 사용하는 법을 아는지 보기 위한 시험도 따라옵니다. 넘치도록 복을 받았으나 받은 은사와 하나님의 소명을 옳게 행사하고 싶어 하지 않거나 그렇게 하지 않기로 선택한 사람들에게는 복이 화가 됩니다. 이번 토라 포션의 요셉 이야기에서 배울 다음으로 중요한 교훈은 이것입니다: 가치를 알아보는 법을 배우고 레몬을 레모네이드로 만드는 법을 늘 알고 있으라는 것입니다! 삶의 모든 환경에서, 여러분의 형제들이 여러분을 가둬놓았던 우물에서도, 보디발의 집에서 노예로 있을 때에도 여러분이 누구인지 기억하며 여러분의 고귀한 도덕적 가치관을 유지해야 함을 기억하십시오. 위대한 바로 왕궁에서도 옥에서 왕궁으로 높여지고, 가난한 처지에서 출세하더라도, 여러분이 누구이며 누구의 권위 아래 역할을 해야 하는지 잊지 마십시오. 요셉의 위대함은 바로 이런 자질이었습니다. 그는 그가 누구인지, 그리고 하나님께서 그에게 약속하신 것을 결코 잊은 적이 없습니다. 우리는 모두 하나님으로부터의 약속이 있습니다! 우리가 그 약속들을 꿈이나 환상으로 하나님으로부터 직접 받지는 않았을지 모르지만, 우리에게는 성경의 겉표지 사이에 창세기부터 요한계시록까지 하나님께서 그분의 자녀, 주의 구속받은 자들인 여러분과 저에게 하신 약속이 있습니다. 우리가 하나님의 약속들을 진지하게 받아들이고 우리의 믿음과 소망과 에너지를 이 약속들을 우리 것으로 만드는 데 들인다면, 우리 삶은 훨씬 더 충만해질 것입니다. 우리가 우리의 주를 믿는 믿음과 소망과 사랑으로 우리 삶에서 하나님의 약속의 성취를 받아들인다면, 우리 직업이 뭐든, 우리가 어디에 살든, 우리의 소유가 많든 적든, 우리도 요셉 이야기가 우리 삶에서도 펼쳐지는 것을 보게 될 것입니다. 우리가 요셉 이야기에서 배워야 하는 마지막 교훈은, 우리가 우리 삶에서 하나님의 은혜를 경험하고 우리의 위대함을 즐기는 동시에, 우리는 우리의 목표를 기억하며 계속 겸손하며 언제나 주님을 우리 삶의 최우선에 두어야 한다는 것입니다. 여러분이 누구인지, 어디에서 왔는지, 여러분의 최종 권위자가 누구인지, 여러분의 삶의 최종 목표가 무엇인지 결코 잊지 마십시오. 제가 요셉 이야기에서 배운 것을 요약하자면, 이러할 것입니다: 1. 언제나, 여러분의 친형제자매를 의뢰하는 것보다 하나님과 그분의 말씀을 의뢰하십시오! 2. 오늘 여러분의 행운을 받아들이고 그것으로부터 유익을 얻도록 최선을 다하십시오. 내일은 그것이 바뀔지도 모르기 때문입니다. 하나님의 약속들 말고, 이 세상에서는 아무것도 확실하지 않습니다! 이스라엘의 역사는 이것을 증명하는 가장 큰 증거입니다. 3. 연주되고 있는 음악에 맞춰 춤을 추십시오! 음악이 연주될 때는 혼자만의 음조로 연주하려고 하지 말고, 지휘자를 따라 가십시오. 여러분은 단지 음악가 중 한 명일 뿐이며, 여러분 앞에 악보가 있으니, 악보를 따라가는 법을 배우십시오. 여러분이 춤추는 사람이라면, 음악에 따라 춤추는 것을 배우십시오! 음악은 지휘자의 지휘봉 신호에 따라 바뀔 수 있음을 기억하십시오. 4. 여러분의 형제들이 돼지처럼 행동하며 여러분에게 상처를 입혔을지라도 그들을 용서하고 원한을 품고 있지 마십시오! 속으로든 밖으로든 여러분의 원수를 결코 용서하지 않겠노라고 결코 그런 말을 하지 마십시오. 언제나 모든 사람과 화평하기를 추구하되, 만약 여러분이 전쟁에 처했다면, 언제나 싸워 이기십시오! 5. 옳은 것이 여러분의 힘의 원천입니다! 요셉은 눅눅하고 어두운 애굽 감옥에 놓여있었을 때에도 결코 그의 고난을 다른 사람들에게 악을 행하는 핑계로 삼지 않았습니다. 그는 언제나, 심지어 옥에 갇혀 있을 때에도, 선을 행할 기회를 찾았습니다! 6. 주님께서는 그분의 종들의 혐의를 벗겨 주실 것입니다. 바퀴는 계속 돌아가며 결코 멈추지 않습니다! 오늘 정상에 있는 자들이 내일은 바닥으로 내려올지도 모릅니다. 이 때문에, 오늘 옳게 행하며, 관대하고, 겸손하고, 은혜롭고, 신실하십시오, 내일 여러분에게 친절하고자 하는 사람들이 없지 않도록. 옥에 갇힌 신세일지라도, 요셉은 하나님의 종이 되는 것만 아니라, 바로의 빵 굽는 관원과 술 맡은 관원이나 옥에 같이 갇혀 있는 다른 죄수들까지 다른 사람들을 섬기는 신실한 종이 되는 것이 유익이 된다는 것을 배웠습니다. 그들은 모두, 비록 요셉 역시 옥에 갇혀 있기는 했으나, 요셉의 최고의 섬김을 누렸기에, 결국, 그들이 요셉의 친절을 기억하게 되는 단초가 되었습니다. 7. 낯선 사람들 앞에서, 특히 애굽인 낯선 사람들 앞에서 부끄러운 가족사를 털어놓지 마십시오! 주님은 언제나 동일하시며, 세상에서 그분의 행하심은 결코 변함이 없습니다! 그분께서는 높이기도 하시고 낮추기도 하십니다! 그분께서는 생명을 주시기도 하시고 거두기도 하십니다! 그분께서는 신실한 자들에게 상을 주시고, 불충한 자들은 벌을 주십니다. 그분의 상은 영원하고, 이생에서의 그분의 축복과 벌과 시험은 언제나 잠깐입니다. 모든 영광과 존귀와 찬양은 영원히 주님께 돌아감이 마땅합니다!

1. 전 세계를 위한 중보 기도를 계속해 주시고, 여러분 각자의 나라를 위한 기도에 집중해 주시되, 이스라엘도 잊지 마시기 바랍니다.
2. 다른 형제자매님들을 위해 기도하며 성령을 통해 메시아의 몸을 위해 중보하는 사람들에게는 하나님으로부터의 복이 있습니다.

우리 영적 지도자들이 우리를 회개로, 죄와 허물을 고백하는 데로 이끌고 지적하여, 주님께서 이 코로나바이러스를 이 땅에서 거두시고 우리가 주님을 기억하며 그분의 의와 진리의 길로 걸어가게 하도록 우리 모두 기도하며 격려합시다.

The Jerusalem Prayer List – December 17, 2020

This Shabbat we are in the middle of the story of Joseph and His brothers! I should say, Joseph and his coat of many colors! This Broadway show has a very interesting name. I received an enlightened view of the story of Joseph in the Bible from the title of this Broadway operetta.
This Shabbat we are reading from the Torah: Genesis 41:1-44:17, from the prophets: Zechariah 2:14-4:7, and from the New Testament: Luke 24:13-29. The reading from the Torah starts with the following words: “Then it came to pass, at the end of two full years, that Pharaoh had a dream; and behold, he stood by the river.” – Genesis 41:1 [NKJV] What kind of statement is this: “Then it came to pass…”? A statement like this can only have meaning if there is predetermined activity! Something expected, programmed, for example, the director gives the word, the cameras start rolling, the actors enter the stage, and the action begins… The story of Joseph is a classic lesson for every human being and for all times. Joseph starts out at the top: he is loved by his father. Let’s forget about Joseph and put ourselves in his place. You are pampered by your father and mother! You have been given the best that your family has to offer! You’re not concerned about those around you. You see everything from your own personal perspective! What a wonderful world you are experiencing in your father’s house! You have forgotten that there are others living with you in the same house. They don’t have a coat of many colors! Winter is coming and your “brothers” might not have a coat of any color, no coats at all! On top of it all you goad your brothers and make them jealous with your visions of grandeur; “I will be the Sun and you my brothers will dance around me,” you have forgotten that you are just an actor who happens to have the lead in the show. Your brothers and parents are also only actors in the same show! We should not forget the words of William Shakespeare, in “As You Like it!” Act II, Scene VII: Jaques to Duke Senior All the world's a stage,
And all the men and women merely players;
They have their exits and their entrances,
And one man in his time plays many parts,
His acts being seven ages. At first, the infant,
Mewling and puking in the nurse's arms.
Then the whining schoolboy, with his satchel
And shining morning face, creeping like snail
Unwillingly to school. And then the lover,
Sighing like furnace, with a woeful ballad
Made to his mistress' eyebrow. Then a soldier,
Full of strange oaths and bearded like the pard,
Jealous in honor, sudden and quick in quarrel,
Seeking the bubble reputation
Even in the cannon's mouth. And then the justice,
In fair round belly with good capon lined,
With eyes severe and beard of formal cut,
Full of wise saws and modern instances;
And so he plays his part. The sixth age shifts
Into the lean and slippered pantaloon,
With spectacles on nose and pouch on side;
His youthful hose, well saved, a world too wide
For his shrunk shank, and his big manly voice,
Turning again toward childish treble, pipes
And whistles in his sound. Last scene of all,
That ends this strange eventful history,
Is second childishness and mere oblivion,
Sans teeth, sans eyes, sans taste, sans everything. The essence of the biblical story of Joseph is that the forces that drive history, our own private history and the history of empires like Egypt and Rome and all forces in His world, God’s world, are beyond us. We are not helpless, we are not robots, we have a free will to decide our own destiny, but beyond our own destiny there is the destiny of God’s world. That destiny that was predetermined before the creation of the world will not change. This world was created with a beginning and with an end. Like all the worlds, and galaxies throughout space, our own galaxy will one day form a nova and the next day become a “black hole”. Yes, you can find this theory in the Bible, both the old and new testaments! We might not like it that there is “someone” who controls our planet, and our solar system! I apologize, I cannot do anything about this, and neither can you, nor the president, or the prime minister, or any of the governments of every nation and people on the face of this earth. The best part about the story of Joseph is the end of His story and the most important part! He makes peace with his brothers and there is reconciliation and restoration of relationships the family is reunited and for nearly 200 years, will enjoy the wealth of Egypt and the plentiful provision of the Lord in the land of Goshen! Let me continue and zoom in at a higher resolution to examine the story of Joseph. From the very beginning of the story of Joseph, from his birth, Joseph is special. He is born to Jacob’s wife Rachel who was not able to have children for a long time. Finally, Rachel has a son, Joseph! This is the son that Rachel had been waiting for! Joseph is the son that Jacob had wished for. Jacob had always wanted to have a son from his beloved wife. From the wife for which he had worked 14 years and to whom he had been married for more than 20 years before Joseph was born. Leah, Rachel’s older sister had seven children before Rachel had Joseph. It’s no wonder that Jacob considered Joseph to be special. He was Jacob’s son from his beloved wife, Rachel. This great advantage, the special love that Jacob had for Joseph, became Joseph’s greatest challenge. What added to Joseph’s challenge was the special place and destiny that God had for him. It was God who gave Joseph his visions of greatness over his brothers and even over his father and mother. This extraordinary position in the grand scheme of redemption for Israel and the world was placed on a very young man, who was pampered by his father and favored over his 10 other brothers Here is a lesson for each of us! With every cloud comes a silver lining and after every silver lining comes another cloud! With every blessing with which the Lord blesses us comes responsibilities and challenges, tests and examinations to see if we know how to use justly and righteously the gifts and talents that God gives us. For some people who are exceedingly blessed and don’t want or chose to exercise the gifts and the calling of God rightly – the blessings turn into a detriment. The next important lesson to learn from Joseph’s story in our Torah reading is this: Learn to appreciate and to always know how to make lemons into lemonade! In all of life’s circumstances, in the well that your brothers put you down, as a slave in the house of Potiphar the Priest of On, remember who you are and remember to maintain your high moral values. Even in the palace of the great Pharaoh, lifted up from the prison to the palace, from rags to riches, don’t forget who you are and under whose authority you must function. Joseph’s greatness was exactly this quality. He never forgot who he was, and what God had promised him. We all have promises from God! We might not get them in a dream or a vision directly from God, but we have the promises that God gave His children, the redeemed of the Lord, you and I, between the covers of the Bible, from Genesis to Revelation. If we will take God’s promises seriously and put our faith and our hope and our energy into appropriating these promises, our lives will be so much more fulfilled. If we accept the fulfillment of God’s promises in our own lives, by our faith and hope and love of the Lord, without regard to what our job is, and where we live, and what possessions, or lack of possessions we have, we too would see the Joseph story being played out in our own lives. The last lesson that we must learn from the story of Joseph is that at the same time that we are experiencing God’s grace in our lives and are enjoying our greatness, we must also remember our goals and stay humble and always place the Lord first in our lives. Never forget who you are, where you came from, who your ultimate authority is and what is your ultimate goal in life. If I were to summarize what I learned from Joseph’s story, it would be: 1. Always trust God and His word more than you trust your own brothers and sisters! 2. Accept your good fortune today and do your best to benefit from it, because tomorrow it might change. Nothing is certain in this world, except God’s promises! The history of Israel is the greatest proof of this. 3. Dance to the music that is being played! Follow the conductor when the music is playing and don’t try to play by your own tune. You are just one of the musicians; you have the music in front of you, so learn to follow the notes. If you are a dancer learn to dance with the music! Remember the music can change at the wave of the conductor’s baton. 4. Forgive and don’t hold a grudge against your brothers even if they act like pigs and hurt you! Never say that you will never forgive your enemies either from within or from without. Always seek peace with everyone but if you find yourself at war, always fight to win! 5. Being in the right is the source of your strength! Joseph, even when he was lying in a damp, dark Egyptian prison, never used his suffering as an excuse to do evil to others. He always looked for opportunities to do good, even when he was in the prison! 6. The Lord will vindicate His servants. The wheel is turning and never stops! Those who are on top today might be on the bottom tomorrow. For this reason, do right today, be generous, humble, gracious, and faithful today, so that tomorrow you will not experience a lack of those willing to be kind to you. While a prisoner, Joseph learned that it not only pays to always be a servant of God, but to also be a faithful servant to others, to Pharaoh’s baker and butler as well as to his other fellow prisoners, all of whom enjoyed Joseph’s best even though he too was imprisoned, which in the end, caused them to remember Joseph’s kindness. 7. Don’t do your family laundry in front of strangers, especially not Egyptian strangers! The Lord is always the same and His actions in the world never change! He lifts up and brings down! He gives life and takes it! He rewards the faithful and punishes the unfaithful. His rewards are eternal, and His blessings, punishments and tests in this life are always temporary. All glory and honor and praise are due to the Lord eternally!
Marcia and I are still in the States and are now staying with our son Barry and his family. Marcia’s surgery went well, Praise the Lord, and she is recovering from it well. Thank you so much for your prayers for Marcia. Please keep praying for Marcia’s health!
Bathsheba Derbaremdicker the wife of Zvi, a member of our congregation, has had her breast surgery and now she is out of the hospital and recuperating at home. Please keep her in your prayers. Hadassah our dear sister is recovering from her surgery. The mother of our sister Fernanda from Brazil is in need of surgery for cancer. Because of the coronavirus the hospitals in Brazil are so full that her surgery has been postponed again. Keep praying for Fernanda’s mother and for the situation in Brazil with the coronavirus. Keep praying for the whole world asking the Lord to deliver His world from this deadly and dangerous virus.
Keep in prayer Ilana, and Leah and Ahuva, ladies who are older members of our congregation. Netivyah is still looking for a more permanent full-time caregiver for Ilana. Netivyah is still taking care of the financial issues involved with having a full-time caregiver for Ilana. Keep this issue also in your prayers.
There is a clear command in the world of God to take care of the widows and orphans. This command is repeated in the Torah, the prophets, the writings, and in the New Testament, even several times. Anyone who is getting old or has older family members must know that the fellowship of the saints and our spiritual family can be trusted to keep this commandment and to take care of our older generation of people who have been givers all of their younger years, and that it is the responsibility of the saints to take care of their elderly.
Please consider as a church or as individuals to add something extra for the elderly saints of Jerusalem.
Zacharias Waldner from Canada who is paraplegic has a problem with sores and is asking for our prayers. Please add Zacharias to your prayer list.
We received a prayer request from a dear sister, Livia Schnell Nothen, who has been with us in Portugal and has stood with our brothers in Brazil and with us on the issue of the Anussim (the “coerced ones,” descendants of 15th century Spanish and Portuguese Jews who were forced to convert to Catholicism and who continued to secretly practice their Judaism - getting the State of Israel to accept them as Jews under the Law of Return has been an issue) and their plight. Livia is ill with a serious illness that needs healing and comfort from the Lord. Please pray for Livia and for her health.
Comfort the family of Dr. Paulo, from Belo-Horizonte in Brazil. Dr. Paulo was a faithful and active member of the Har Zion Congregation in Belo-Horizonte. He participated in our conferences in Portugal. The coronavirus got the best of Dr. Paulo. He passed into eternal life last week after a battle with the coronavirus. Like many doctors who have labored with this virus, Dr. Paulo too has lost his life in this battle.
Please keep brother Philip Marc in your prayers. Philip is a young man with very serious cancer. He is a truth seeker and a faithful disciple of Yeshua who loves God and who is a lover of Israel. Philip lives far from Israel in a country that we can’t travel to, but Philips heart is with us and with God’s people.
Pray for Paulo C. Pereira Braga Dias. He is the father of a dear sister in Brazil.
The situation in Israel has not gotten better yet! Israel is still under closure with limited mobility and most of the economy and businesses are closed, at least for now. The economy is devastated.
I wrote last week in the Jerusalem Prayer List that it is a good work to pray for people whom you don’t know personally and to pray for the world to recover and for an end to this horrible pandemic called the coronavirus. Corona is a crown, and I am not sure on the head of which king this virus is a crown.
1. Please keep doing intercessory prayer for the whole world, concentrate on your country, but do not forget Israel.
2. There is a blessing from God to those who pray for other brothers and sisters and who intercede through the Holy Spirit for the body of the Messiah.
3. It might seem like a small thing for us to pray a few minutes for brothers and sisters around the world, but in the kingdom and in the heavens attention is paid by the authorities of goodness to the caring and sincere intercessory prayer that conforms and confirms that the body of the Messiah Yeshua is truly one body.
a. Pray for all the former and present people involved in Korean Israel Bible Instruction Ministry.
b. Pray for the former board members of KIBI and that those who need to repent and restore their relationship receive power from on high to do so.
c. Pray for those members and academics that are and were a part of the Israel Forum.
d. Pray for those who have prayed so faithfully for the salvation of Israel and the peace in Israel.
e. Pray for the spiritual and physical health of all those in Korea who are still praying for the body of the Messiah in Israel and specifically praying and supporting Netivyah. Bless them and inspire them and pray that they be filled with faith, hope and love for the Lord and for Israel.
Let us all pray and encourage our spiritual leaders to lead and to point us toward repentance and to confession of our sins and weaknesses, so that the Lord will lift this coronavirus from off of this earth and we will remember the Lord and seek to walk in His paths of righteousness and truth.
Danah our daughter, needs much prayer for her situation and so does our granddaughter Noaam. Please lift Danah and Noaam in your prayers. Please lift Barry our son and his family, Beth, and Joey our grandson who are also staying at home and working from home during this time. Marcia’s mother June is 91 years old and her health is failing. Our sister from Jerusalem, Hadassah, had her surgery for cancer and is now at home recovering. Please keep her in your prayers.
We are praying for a three-year-old little girl who is ill with a rare illness and cancer. She lives with her family in California and we need to pray for her and her family to receive attention and healing from the Lord and to be allowed to grow up to serve His kingdom.
I am adding a new prayer request from a leader of God’s people in India, Joy Mathew. Joy has a serious heart condition and has asked for prayer. I am praying that some of the local elders will go to Joy, anoint him with oil, and pray for his healing, in accordance with the instructions given by James the brother of Yeshua in his letter to the twelve tribes of Israel living in the diaspora.
Please pray for our brothers and sisters in Brazil. Brazil is one of the countries with a remarkably high count of sick and dead people from the coronavirus. We have brothers and sisters all around Brazil, and I ask you to just say a prayer for divine protection and for wisdom to keep them clear from this deadly plague. Also include in your prayers Caique de Oliveira Becker These are people in Brazil who need the Lord’s special grace for healing. Please do not forget to lift up in prayer the young man Paulo and the Amaral family, in Brazil.
Please keep in your prayers our dear brother Pastor TJ in Taiwan. TJ is going through a new phase in his life, having lost his wife.
Keep Ruby Little in your prayers, our dear sister from Oklahoma City, who is also battling against cancer and add to your prayers Allison Howard Williams. Allison is the daughter of one of my incredibly special teachers and friends, Dr. George Howard. Allison is also battling cancer.

Please keep praying for Samuel Lopes, a 17-year-old boy who is going through an extremely hard time. His father and mother are extremely upset that He is not walking with the Lord and I heard from his father he has joined with friends who are far from the paths of righteousness.
Please pray for the family of brother Joseph Kelber and especially for his son. Pray for Rachael and Daniel, a brother and sister who need jobs and emotional healing. Lift these brothers and sisters in your prayers: Angela Isby, Aries Franklin Mayers Sr., and Tony Black. Keep praying for Nancy, Don and their son Aaron Hook, Rachel, David Kim’s wife – Jingyung Lee, Dr. Yuizawa, Tiz H., Lion H., Michael Schiffman, Joe Mays, Ilana Abramov, Cynthia Parveen’s sister, David Stern and his family, Anne West who is now 100 years old. I have just received a prayer request from a dear sister from Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Her father who is 70 years old and diabetic has contracted the COVID-19 virus. His name is Paulo C. Pereira Braga Dias. He is in the hospital and his condition is particularly challenging. Please join us in lifting Paulo C. Pereira Braga Dias in your prayers.
Please see your prayer as casting a vote for healing before the Lord and His angels in Heaven in favor of every brother and sister that you are praying for. Please add to your prayers the family of Um Mahmud Abu-Eid and Jimmy their son. I believe that this is a good thing for us to pray for friends and acquaintances who are Muslims. It is an act of love and reconciliation to carry before the throne of mercy those dear people who are seeking peace and righteousness looking toward the Lord for mercy and healing.

By praying for people who are your brothers and sisters, and whom you do not know personally, you are exercising the right to be God’s ambassador in what is called “agape love.” “Agape love” is the highest form of love, a love that does not look for earthly rewards or give and take, but just does the service of intercession in the kingdom of God.
You will be blessed by the almighty God who gives each of His children good for the good we do and recompense for the bad we do. Your sincere prayers for people around the world do the following things for the Kingdom, the King, and for the body of the Messiah:
1. They unite you and the body in a major transcendent bond of prayer.
2. They demonstrate the oneness of the people of God.
3. Your prayer shows that there are people outside the realm of the physical world and personal interests who have a sincere bond and relationship that is heavenly and not earthly.
4. The Lord knows His children and gives credit and reward according to His promises.

Ahuva. Please pray for a dear brother who is well into his 90’s and lost his wife a couple of weeks ago. His name is Dov H. Please keep a dear sister who attends our congregation in Jerusalem. Her name is Hadassah and she just had cancer surgery. Pray for Hadassah for a full recovery and remission from cancer in her body.
Pray for Israel. We are going through terrible riots and violence in the streets of Jerusalem and Tel-Aviv and other places around the country. These riots are motivated by the fact that much of the populace of Israel does not understand what the government is doing in relationship to the coronavirus pandemic.
Businesses are closing and bankruptcy is happening to old established companies and businesses and even our national airline is on the verge of bankruptcy. People do not have money to put food on their tables. The number of people in need of basic food is growing.
Netivyah has been feeding the poor of Jerusalem for more than 25 years and we have a highly appreciated humanitarian ministry that is working with the Jerusalem municipality. As the demands for food for people who never before needed such help grows, I pray that the Lord will inspire and motivate brothers and sisters and ministries who can help with this to visit our webpage: www.netivyah.org and do what they can to make it possible for us to double or more than double, the number of people and families that we serve.
Our prime minister’s case is still before the courts. I am not happy that this is happening in Israel, but I am praying that true justice and righteousness is exhibited in our court system. The truth must come out and I am not interested in a second prime minister of Israel going to jail. We have had a president in jail, a finance minister in jail, a minister of interior affairs in jail, and a member of the parliament in jail. Enough!

I was asked by brothers and sisters of the Messianic congregation, Shoresh David (The Root of David) in Portland, Oregon, to pray for Portland. Anarchist elements have taken the center of Portland, OR, and turned it into chaos, and disorder. So, please pray for Portland, OR, and for our brothers and sisters in that city.
The coronavirus is threatening the economy of the world with a great recession and depression. Some of our major supporters have already lowered the amount of their support. They have done this not only toward Netivyah, but for all the ministries that they are supporting, and they are many. I would like to first ask you to pray about your part in supporting Netivyah Bible Instruction Ministry.
Second, I would like for you who stand with us in prayer and financially to do your absolute best to stay on board with us and communicate. We realize that times will be hard for several years, but we also realize that God has chosen and blessed you for such a time as this.
Third please pray for a new project that we are starting in Israel in partnership with the Houses for Healing ministry from Abilene, Texas.
The aim is to provide hospitality for families of critically ill patients who are hospitalized in one of Jerusalem’s hospitals and who have no means to stay in hotels while their family members are in the hospitals.
This is a critical need especially in these days when there are hundreds of men and women who are in the COVID-19 ICU units for weeks and even months.
We need your prayer and your help to make this a meaningful and significant blessing both for the sick and for their families.
I wish all of you, who stand with Israel and who pray for Jerusalem, the best of the Lord’s blessings and the fulfillment of all His promises to His faithful children.
