안식일에 전 세계 유대인은 ‘쉬미니’라고 하는 파라샤(토라 포션) 레위기 9:1~11:47을 읽을 것입니다. 선지자의 글에서 읽는 하프타라는 사무엘하 6:1~7:17입니다. (메시아닉 회당의 경우) 신약성경에서 읽는 부분은 사도행전 10:9-22입니다.

지금 우리 세계는 “코로나”(왕관)라는 이름이 붙여진 보이지 않는 적과 전쟁 중입니다. 이 전쟁은 아직 끝나지 않았고, 이 바이러스의 출처도 아직 완전히 알아내지 못했습니다.

주님께서 전 세계의 그분의 백성이며 신실한 남은 자들에게 뭘 말씀하시는 걸까요? 저는 주님께서 전 세계의 그분의 백성에게 뭘 말씀하시는 것인지 정말 모르겠습니다. 제가 여러분과 나누고 싶은 꽤 그럴듯한 추측이 있습니다! 저는 주님께서 교회와 이스라엘의 그분의 백성에게 이렇게 말씀하신다고 믿습니다:
“세상은 공포와 혼란에 빠져있다. 수만 명이, 주로 노인과 아픈 사람들이 이 바이러스의 희생자로 쓰러졌다. 지금은 너희의 부흥의 시간, 자명종이 울릴 시간, 섬기며 너희의 동정심과 주님과 사람들에 대한 사랑을 보여줄 시간이다.
너희가 생기 없이 이 사건들이 너희에게 주는 불과 기회를 잡지 못한다면, 너희의 소금은 맛을 잃을 것인데, 너희는 더 이상 소금의 맛을 잃은 소금에게는 무슨 일이 일어나는지 알 것이다! 나는 너희 지도자 중 어떤 자들은 나를 왕으로 받아들이기를 거절한 것을 안다. 교회는 내가 기저귀를 찬 여윈 유대인으로 십자가에 달린 채 그대로 있기를 원한다.

On Shabbat Jews around the world will be reading the parasha (Torah portion) called Shemini from Leviticus 9:1-11:47. The Haftarah, reading from the prophets is 2 Samuel 6:1-7:17. The New Testament reading (for Messianic synagogues) is from the book of Acts 10:9-22.
The reading from the Torah describes one of the most interesting tragedies in the Bible. Moses has just completed seven days of training and instructions for the Priests (the cohanim). Now it is the time for these sanctified servants of God and the people to get to work and practice what they have learned. In Leviticus 9, Moses provides specific instructions with regard to what sacrifices are to be brought to the Tabernacle for the sacrificial ceremony. The entire leadership of Israel has been gathered together to witness the inauguration of the altar of the Lord. Everyone is dressed for the event. Aaron is wearing his special priestly garment. He has on the golden breastplate (the ephod) with the names of all of the 12 tribes, the twelve precious stones shimmering in the light of the desert sun. Nadab and Abihu, Aaron’s two eldest sons are next to their father ready to perform their duty as priests and to present the offering in front of all of Israel. This is the first time that the Tabernacle is going to be fully functional. Everyone is under great pressure and the ceremony starts and the two young priests who have been trained and rehearsed for a whole week, are now expected to do their priestly duty and bring the fire to set on fire the burnt offering which is on the altar. Here is the tragedy, Nadab and Abihu took a shortcut and brought fire from the wrong place, strange fire, not from the holy fire that was prepared for this occasion. This is how the text in Leviticus 10:1-3, describes what happened: “Then Nadab and Abihu, the sons of Aaron, each took his censer and put fire in it, put incense on it, and offered profane fire before the Lord, which He had not commanded them. So fire went out from the Lord and devoured them, and they died before the Lord. And Moses said to Aaron, ‘This is what the Lord spoke, saying: “By those who come near Me I must be regarded as holy; And before all the people I must be glorified.”’ So Aaron held his peace.” – Leviticus 10:1-3 [NKJV] Some criticize the harsh punishment that The Lord used against the sons of Aaron. A tragedy without doubt. A tragedy is not an act of no choice. A tragedy is always something that could and should have been avoided and prevented. If some very bad thing happens that is out of our human control, it is “force majeure”, an act of Heaven. No human being can be punished for a volcano that erupted, or a tsunami that struck a coast line and destroyed a city. The event that brought the Lord to such anger that he took the lives of these two sons of Aaron was something that could have and should have been avoided. These men spent a week with Moses teaching and training and rehearsing their duties as priests serving the Lord Most High! So what caused these young priests to make such a bad mistake? The text of Leviticus 10 does not say explicitly why Nadab and Abihu did this stupid deed, but it does hint and give us a reasonable explanation of why these well trained young priests did this terrible thing that angered the Almighty God. “Then the Lord spoke to Aaron, saying: ‘Do not drink wine or intoxicating drink, you, nor your sons with you, when you go into the tabernacle of meeting, lest you die. It shall be a statute forever throughout your generations, that you may distinguish between holy and unholy, and between unclean and clean.’” – Leviticus 10:8-10 [NKJV] Because this command of the Lord through Moses comes immediately after the tragic event of the death of the children of Aaron the connection is made and an explanation is given by the ancient Jewish rabbinical authorities that Nadab and Abihu were drunk during the ceremony of the inauguration of the Tabernacle. Therefore the Lord commands Moses and Aaron and his two surviving sons not to drink strong drink (alcohol) when they are performing their duty and service to the Lord. I imagine what went on in the minds of these two young priests, sons of Aaron: They probably said to themselves, “This event is so important and so holy that we can’t make mistakes. All of Israel’s leadership will be there watching us. Maybe it would be wise for us to drink a little and be more relaxed and not so tense and nervous when we serve the Lord and the people.” So, they took one glass of whiskey and soda, just to be a little more relaxed, not so tense. This is a very important message for all those who serve the Lord and the people of God: It is not good to be so tense and full of fear when you serve the Lord. However, it is much more serious to take your service in God’s Kingdom lightly or take lightly the Lord and His serious attitude toward the instructions and commands that He gives us, His servants, in all that pertains to His instructions. Just take as an example the instructions that the Apostle Paul gives us concerning the communion, and let these instructions put a little more of the fear of the Lord in every servant of God when it comes to our public service to the Lord and His people. Share with your pastors, rabbis, and preachers!
So, our world is in a battle with the invisible enemy that has been named “corona” – crown in English. The battle is not over yet, and the origins of this virus are not yet fully understood.
The government of China has released a very severe warning regarding anyone who publishes information concerning the origins of this virus. I presume that they issued this warning because they didn’t want rumors and false information to spread around the whole world.
What is the Lord telling His people and faithful remnant around the world? I don’t really know what the Lord is telling His people around the world. I have a good guess that I would like to share with you! I believe that the Lord is telling His people, both in the church and in Israel:
“The world is in panic and confusion. Many tens of thousands of people, mainly older and sick people have fallen victim to this virus. Now is the hour of your revival and a wake-up call to go out and serve and show your compassion and love for the Lord and for the people.
If you stay inert and if you don’t catch the fire and opportunity that these events are offering you, your salt will be tasteless and you know what happens to salt that is no longer salty! The goal of the community of the saints is not building local empires for the pastors and church leaders and church growth. The goal of the Holy Communities of God’s people is to serve the people with two ingredients: a) love for the people and a desire to serve them with the good news both by word and by deed. b) to prepare the world for the return of the Messiah.
(A little pitch for Netivyah is not out of order here. We need your prayers and financial support now as much as the saints in Jerusalem needed their brothers in Corinth, Rome, Achaia and Macedonia. Yuda and Daniel and Nancy and Hanoch and Nir, are continuing to serve the poor of Jerusalem with food, fresh and frozen and canned goods even with the coronavirus.
They have received special permission from the city of Jerusalem to continue driving and giving and providing for the most basic needs of many hundreds of people and a total of more than 175 needy families in Jerusalem and another several dozens of elderly from the body of the Messiah in Jerusalem.)
We even received a shipment of masks from brothers and sisters in Hong Kong to distribute to our congregation and to the needy who come to the Hamotzi food program. Glory to God for our dear sisters and brothers in Hong Kong who mobilized in the middle of their own crisis to bless the Disciples of Yeshua in Israel. Special gratitude to a dear sister named Gloria who initiated this move of support from Hong Kong.
I need your prayers for my health. I thank God every day for His goodness and mercy and trust Him to restore my health so that I can continue to teach His Word. I need your prayers and Marcia needs your prayers. Danah our daughter needs much prayer for her situation and so does our granddaughter Noaam. She is a wonderful young lady with many gifts, and challenges in life. Please lift Danah and Noaam in your prayers.
Please keep Michelle O., in your prayers. Michelle is a young lady who has been diagnosed with Leukemia, and also has Kidney stones. She needs our prayers.
Pray for a dear brother Mr. Shukrey Lawrence, who is suffering from cancer and needs our prayers for strength and healing. Pray also for Lawrence Tours and all the Tourist industry in Israel. There are no tourists and Hotels are being converted as temporary hospitals for the thousands of Coronavirus victims. The Tourist industry in Israel is suffering a death blow if there is not a reasonably quick lifting of all the restrictions and the return of airports to their normal function.
Please add to your prayers a special prayer for the following brothers and sisters who need divine intervention in their behalf: Angela I, Rachael and Daniel a brother and sister who need jobs and emotional healing. Also add Tony B., and Aries Franklin Mayers Sr.
Don’t forget Nancy and Don Hook, Rachel – Jingyung Lee, Hannah Yoshida from Koyto, and Dr. Yuizawa , Tiz H., Lion H., Ilana Avrahamov, Michael Shiffman’s mother , Ruby L., Sister Angela from Taiwan, who has new challenges that are very serious and needs special prayer for a miracle from the Lord. All this list includes people who are dealing with a major pandemic even greater than the Coronavirus. They are all dealing with cancer in acute stages and we, the disciples of Yeshua must take the ministry that was given to us by the Lord Himself, to ask in His name and He will bring our appeals before His Father.

The Coronavirus has spread to more than 180 countries. There is no end in sight. Scientists around the world are working overtime to understand how this virus is working and what systems in the human body it affects.
There are many who believe that this virus is not a natural mutation of the Sars and Mars coronaviruses that struck our world a few years back. It seems to many that this virus is especially engineered by humans to serve the ultimate weapon to destroy the economies of the world and weaken the world powers in the West. As one can see even with one eye, that some of the world powers are getting stronger and doing a brisk business from the coronavirus aftershock.
I am happy to see that the Chinese government is easing the quarantine in China and in Wuhan and returning slowly to business as usual. This is a good sign to other countries that it is not impossible to conquer the coronavirus.

The total mess that the Israeli government is in is not over yet. In fact it is becoming much more complicated and the mandate for creating a government is passing today back to the president of Israel and he will pass it on to the Parliament (the Knesset). This is a sign of great weakness and great egotism and self-centeredness in both the politicians and the Israeli public that is not able even after three rounds of elections one after the other, to make a decisive and clear choice of who is to be our prime minister.
It could be that Israel is being pushed into a fourth round of elections in September of this year. As Albert Einstein said: Insanity is when a person takes the very same action and thinks that next time the results will be different. We are now in the stage of insanity in the political system of this state of Israel.
The coronavirus is threatening the economy of the world with a great recession and depression. Some of our major supporters have already lowered the amount of their support. They have done this not only toward Netivyah, but for all the ministries that they are supporting, and they are many.
I would like to first ask you to pray about your part in supporting Netivyah Bible Instruction Ministry. Second, I would like for you who stand with us in prayer and financially to do your very best to stay on board with us and communicate. We realize that times will be hard for several years, but we also realize that God has chosen and blessed you for such a time as this.
I wish all of you, who stand with Israel and who pray for Jerusalem, the best of the Lord’s blessings and the fulfillment of all His promises to His faithful children. Those who hear God and do His will are the ones who are called wise! Those who only hear His word and don’t do it are called foolish! Let us all strive to be wise and never foolish!
