이번 안식일 토라 포션은 “베샬랔”(“그가 그들을 내보냈을 때”), 출애굽기 13:17~17:16, 선지서에서 읽는 부분은 사사기 4:4~5:31(드보라 이야기와 그녀의 노래), 신약성경에서 읽는 부분은 마태복음 14:22-33입니다.
지난 주에 우리는 이스라엘 자손이 여러 민족의 허다한 무리와 함께 구원받는 이야기를 읽었습니다. 저 허다한 무리는 죽음의 사자가 애굽 땅을 다니던 밤에 이스라엘이 뭘 하는지를 보고 그들을 따라했습니다. 그들은 이스라엘 가정들을 살폈고 그들의 문설주에 양의 피가 발린 것을 보았습니다. 그들은 이스라엘 사람들이 짐을 싸는 것을 보고 자기들의 짐을 쌌습니다. 그들은 지켜보고 있다가 이스라엘 자손이 행진해 나가는 것을 보고 그들을 따라왔습니다. 이제 이번 안식일에 읽는 포션은 이스라엘 자손이 모세와 아론의 인도로 애굽을 떠나 가나안땅으로의 긴 여정을 시작하는 것으로 시작됩니다. 각자의 가족을 데리고 소유를 가지고 애굽을 떠난 저 대다수의 이스라엘 사람들에게는, 하나님께서 그들의 조상 아브라함과 이삭과 야곱과 그들의 자손에게 영원히 주신 그 가나안땅은 미지의 땅이었습니다. 그들은 모두 애굽에서 태어났고, 대부분은 태어나자마자 종살이를 시작했고, 바로와 애굽의 귀족들을 위해 죽은 자들의 도시를 짓는 고된 노동의 종살이가 그들이 아는 전부였습니다. 이 말씀으로 이번 토라 포션이 시작됩니다: “바로가 백성을 보낸 후에 블레셋 사람의 땅의 길은 가까울지라도 하나님이 그들을 그 길로 인도하지 아니하셨으니 이는 하나님이 말씀하시기를 이 백성이 전쟁을 하게 되면 마음을 돌이켜 애굽으로 돌아갈까 하셨음이라 그러므로 하나님이 홍해의 광야 길로 돌려 백성을 인도하시매 이스라엘 자손이 애굽 땅에서 대열을 지어 나올 때에” – 출애굽기 13:17,18 이스라엘 사람들이 애굽을 떠나는 첫 발을 떼는 시작부터, 우리는 그 당시 그곳에 살고 있던 사람들이 우리였다면 그다지 용기를 북돋우는 것이 아닐 상황에 대한 정보를 받습니다. 하나님께서는 애굽에서 가나안땅까지 가는 길에 쉽고 빠르고 간단하고 통상적이고 보통 다니는 길, 고대 세계의 주요 대로 중 하나인 지중해 해안을 따라 북쪽으로 가는 길, 즉 해변길(비아 마리스)을 통해 그들을 데려가지 않습니다. 그 대로는 아프리카와 아시아와 유럽을 잇는 길입니다. 그 길을 이용하면 이스라엘 땅까지 가는 여정이 11-14일이 걸렸을 것입니다, 40년이 아니라. 제게는 이 본문 말씀이 이 이야기의 끝을 이미 알고 있는 편집자의 해설 같아 보입니다. 어쨌든, 성령님께서는 이스라엘 자손의 여정 시작부터 그들에게 쉬운 길을 가는 것이 하나님의 뜻이 아니었다는 것을 우리에게 알려주는 것이 합당하다고 보셨습니다. 시간과 공간의 제약을 받는 우리 인간의 지혜를 능가하는 주님의 지혜가 여기 있습니다. 우리 보통의 인간의 지혜는 “이스라엘 사람들아, 너희는 애굽에서 달아나고 있으니 가능한 한 빨리 거기서 나와 달리고 달려!” 말합니다. 여기에 우리의 한계와, 전능하신 주님께서 해방된 이 종들에게 일어나야 할 최선의 것들이라고 생각하시는 것들에 대한 주님의 예지가 있습니다. 주님께서는 이스라엘을 교육하시고, 그들에게 토라를 주시고, 시내산자락에서 사실상의 결혼식을 하시고, 그들에게 만나를 먹이시며 그들이 마실 물을 달게 만드시고, 그들이 하나님을 의뢰하며 그분의 신실하심을 보도록 훈련하시고자 하셨습니다. 앞의 본문 말씀 속에 우리에게 주어진 주된 이유는 “이 백성이 전쟁을 하게 되면 마음을 돌이켜 애굽으로 돌아갈까 하셨음이라”입니다. 다른 말로 하면, 하나님께서는 이스라엘 자손을 신병훈련소를 거쳐 가게 하시려는 것이었습니다! 바로의 마음을 완악하게 만드시고, 그분께서 자연의 힘과, 나일강의 물과, 메뚜기 떼와, 빛과 어두움과, 날씨와, 생명까지 다스리시는 분이심을 애굽에 보이심으로 애굽과 세계가 세상의 창조주 하나님을 알게 되도록 하시고자 하셨던 바로 그 하나님께서 말입니다. 저는, 죽음의 사자가 애굽의 집들을 다니며 애굽의 장자를 거둬들일 때, 사람이든 육축이든 애굽의 첫 소생만 그 어두운 밤에 죽은 것이 흥미롭다고 생각합니다. 주님께서 행하시기로 택한 이 일은, 그분께서, 그리고 그분만이 자연부터 모든 사람의 생명까지 모든 것을 다스리시는 분이심을 보이기 위한 것입니다. 요즘 우리에게는 코로나바이러스가 흡사 보름달 밤에 애굽을 찾아간 죽음의 사자 같습니다. 그러나 차이점은 지금은 그것이 전 세계적이라는 것, 동에서부터 서까지, 북에서부터 남까지, 일곱 대륙 모두에 이른다는 것입니다. 바이러스가 온 세계에 창궐하고 있는 이 절체절명의 때인 오늘도 우리가 주님을 알고 이해하고 믿고 의뢰하니 좋습니다. 하나님의 말씀을 읽는 우리는, 이 세상을 지도하고 다스리고 교육하고 무엇에 대해서든 준비시키는 유일한 상관, 유일한 왕, 유일한 통치자가 이 세상을 너무 사랑하시어 그분의 독생자를 보내신 이스라엘의 주 하나님이시라는 이 단순한 진리를 기억하고 배우고 깨어나야 합니다. 우리 모두 주님을 구하고, 우리 개인의 죄를 회개하고, 우리 각자의 정부가 회개하여 주님과 그분의 가치들과 성경적 믿음과 생활방식으로 돌아오도록 기도합시다. 제 주의를 끈 인상 깊은 한 가지는 이스라엘 자손이 그렇게 서두르는 중에서도 요셉의 유골을 취하여 가나안땅으로 가져가 요셉을 아브라함, 이삭, 사라, 리브가, 레아, 야곱과 함께 헤브론에 매장해야 한다는 것을 잊지 않았다는 것입니다. 여러분이 너무 서둘러 떠나며 시간도 없는데, 자녀들도 데려가고 짐도 가져가며, 죽은 지 적어도 300년 된 요셉의 관(미이라)도 기억한다는 것은 제게는 꽤 인상적입니다. 이번 주 토라 포션에서 그 다음으로 큰 일은 홍해를 건넌 사건입니다. 저는 홍해를 건너기 전, 모세가 그의 지팡이로 물을 치기 전, 물이 갈라지기 전, 백성이 내려가 가장 아름다운 바다물속 경치 중 하나인 모래톱과 산호초 사이로 걸어가기 전에 일어난 일에 훨씬 더 큰 감명을 받았습니다. 간략히 요약하자면 이렇습니다: 이스라엘 사람들의 큰 무리와 허다한 잡족들은 애굽 사람들의 부(富)을 가지고 떠나며 “마침내 자유롭다”는 해방감이 있었습니다. 겨우 이삼일 지나지 않아, 그들은 그들 뒤로 먼지 구름이 하늘로 오르는 것을 보고 병거 소리를 듣는데, 수백 승, 어쩌면 수천 승의 병거 같습니다. 그들 앞에는 바다가 있고, 뒤에는 애굽 군대가 있어 복수심으로 그들을 죽이고 다시 종으로 데려가려 합니다. 상황은 가망이 없어 보입니다! 두려움과 공포감이 그들을 집어삼켰습니다! 그들이 애굽을 나올 때 가졌던 기쁨과 소망은 일순간에 공포와 악목으로 바뀌었습니다. 그들은 모세와 아론을 탓하기 시작합니다. 저는 모세와 아론도 어떻게 해야 할지 몰랐을 것이라고 믿습니다! 사람의 관점에서는 당연히 바로 이 순간 재앙이 임박한 것입니다! 믿음으로 모세는 백성을 기운 나게 하기 위해 다음과 같은 말을 찾았습니다: “모세가 백성에게 이르되 너희는 두려워하지 말고 가만히 서서 여호와께서 오늘 너희를 위하여 행하시는 구원을 보라 너희가 오늘 본 애굽 사람을 영원히 다시 보지 아니하리라 여호와께서 너희를 위하여 싸우시리니 너희는 가만히 있을지니라.” – 출애굽기 14:13,14 모세는 백성의 용기를 북돋우기 위한 말을 할 적절한 시간에 바로 적절한 말을 찾았습니다. 이것은 설교단에 서서 이렇게 힘든 시간에 있는 사람들에게 하나님의 말씀을 말하는 이들에게 아주 중요한 것입니다. 모세는 말을 지어내거나 거짓 예언을 주는 것이 아닙니다. 모세는 하나님을 직접적으로 알았습니다! “나는 너희를 애굽에서 인도하여 낸 주 너희 하나님이다.” 이것은 이 코로나바이러스 때에 살고 있는 우리들이 우리의 창조주와 우리 구주와의 관계 가운데 회복해야 할 믿음/신뢰 같은 것입니다. 그저 이러 저러한 신조, 보통 당을 짓고 분파를 만드는, 사람이 만든 신조를 믿는 것은 믿음의 정수가 아닙니다. 믿음의 정수는 우리 인간의 지성으로는 터널 끝에 있는 빛을 볼 수 없을 때 주님께서 그 끝에서 그분의 팔을 벌리고 우리를 기다리고 계심을 알고 주님을 신뢰하는 것입니다. 주님께서 모세에게 말씀하신 것입니다: “여호와께서 모세에게 이르시되 너는 어찌하여 내게 부르짖느냐 이스라엘 자손에게 명령하여 앞으로 나아가게 하고” – 출애굽기 14:15 이것은 제가 언제나 염두에 두고 있는 말씀 중 하나입니다. 불평과 원망과 우리가 우리 머리 위에 일으키는 먹구름은 우리에게서 희망을 앗아가고 우리가 기쁨을 누리지 못하게 하고 우리 마음에 우울함을 주입합니다. 주님께서 모세에게 말씀하시는 것은 그만 부르짖고 백성에게 앞으로 나아가라고 말하라는 것입니다. 그런데 여기에서 제가 이 백성 편에 서서 말해보자면, 이 백성이 그들 앞에 있는 것을 보니 바다요, 그들 뒤로는 바로와 애굽 군대입니다. 저희는 집단적으로 창세기부터 요한계시록까지 겪은 수천 년의 역사와, 그에 더해 하나님께서 신실하시며 그분의 약속을 지키심을 경험한 또 다른 2,000년의 역사가 있습니다. 오늘날의 이스라엘은, 우리가 하나님과 그분의 약속들을 신뢰할 수 있음을, 부르짖거나 불평하지 않고, 우리가 앞으로 나아갈 수 있도록 우리에게 활짝 열릴 문이 어디에 있는지 물으며, 하나님의 약속들에 의지하여 발걸음을 내딛고 한 분 참된 주님을 신뢰할 수 있음을 입증하는 가장 큰 증거입니다! 이번 토라 포션에서 그 다음 큰 이야기는 홍해를 건너고 애굽 사람들에 대한 큰 승리 후, 애굽을 떠난 지 채 두 달이 안 되어 이스라엘 자손이 말한 것입니다: “이스라엘 자손 온 회중이 그 광야에서 모세와 아론을 원망하여 이스라엘 자손이 그들에게 이르되 우리가 애굽 땅에서 고기 가마 곁에 앉아 있던 때와 떡을 배불리 먹던 때에 여호와의 손에 죽었더라면 좋았을 것을 너희가 이 광야로 우리를 인도해 내어 이 온 회중이 주려 죽게 하는도다.” – 출애굽기 16:2,3 이 본문 말씀에서 우리 자신에 대해 무엇을 배울 수 있을까요? 우리는 반-유대주의의 눈으로 이스라엘을 보며 이렇게 말할 수도 있을 것입니다: “이 못된 유대인들은 항상 감사할 줄 모르고, 항상 더 많은 것을 원하고, 뭔가를 공짜로 원한다!” 제가 서구권의 가장 유명한 오순절(은사주의) 교회 지도자들 몇 명과 함께 시내 광야를 여행한 경험에서 여러분께 말씀드릴 수 있는데요, 다니는 길에 어려움이 생기고 차가 고장나자, 대단히 영적이라고 여겨지고 성령 충만하여 기적을 행하고 마귀를 쫓아내고 병자를 고치는 그 지도자들이, 이스라엘 자손이 겪었던 어려움보다도 훨씬 약한 어려움을 겪으면서, 믿음 없는 이교도들처럼 행동하더라는 것입니다. 우리는 모두 사람이고, 모두 이기적이고, 힘든 상황에서는 모두 가장 먼저 우리 자신을 챙깁니다. 여러분을 종의 신분으로 나고 자랐던 저 이스라엘 사람들의 처지에 둬 보십시오. 네, 아무 권리도 아무 자유도 없지만 아무리 누추하고 아무리 힘든 환경일지라도 누군가 여러분의 음식과 거처를 살펴주는 종살이 말입니다. 여러분은 그것을 걱정할 필요가 없습니다 – 여러분은 마구간의 말 같은 처지입니다 – 여러분은 일하고, 태우고, 경주하되, 주인이 여러분에게 옥수수와 건초를 가져다줍니다. 이제 아무도 여러분을 먹여주지 않고 여러분 주위에는 여러분이 가서 밭에서 따 올만한 것도 전혀 없습니다. 그러니, 우리 은혜로운 주님께서 막 종살이에서 해방된 저들에게 어떻게 공급하시는지 보십시오, 하늘로부터 양식을 주십니다! The Jerusalem Prayer List – January 28, 2021

The Torah reading this Shabbat is Beshalach (“when He sent them out”), Exodus 13:17 - 17:16, and from the Prophets the reading is from Judges 4:4 - 5:31 (The story of Deborah and her song), and from the New Testament the reading is from Matthew 14:22-33.
Last week we read the story of the deliverance of the children of Israel along with a mixed multitude of people from different nations that saw what Israel was doing on the night that the angel of death passed through the land of Egypt and copied them. They watched the homes of the Israelites and saw the blood of the lambs that was put on their doorposts. They watched the Israelites packing their belongings and they packed their belongings. They watched and saw that at dawn the children of Israel were marching out and they joined them. Now this Shabbat’s reading starts with the children of Israel led by Moses and Aaron leaving Egypt and starting their long journey to the land of Canaan. For the vast majority of those Israelites leaving Egypt with their families and their belongings, the land of Canaan, the land given by God to their forefathers, Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob and their seed forever, was an unknown land. They were all born in Egypt, and most of had been born into slavery and that is all that they knew, slavery under hard labor in building the cities of the dead for the Pharaohs and the nobility of Egypt. This is where our Torah reading starts: “Then it came to pass, when Pharaoh had let the people go, that God did not lead them by way of the land of the Philistines, although that was near; for God said, ‘Lest perhaps the people change their minds when they see war, and return to Egypt.’ So God led the people around by way of the wilderness of the Red Sea. And the children of Israel went up in orderly ranks out of the land of Egypt.” – Exodus 13:17,18 [NKJV] Right at the beginning, when the Israelites are taking their first steps to leave Egypt, we are given information regarding the situation that would not have been exactly encouraging if it had been us who were living there at that time. God is not going to take them through the easy, quick, simple, regular, and usual way to travel from Egypt to the land of Canaan. The way that goes north to the seacoast of the Mediterranean and follows one of the main highways of the ancient world, the Way of the Sea (the Via Maris). That highway connected Africa, Asia, and Europe. By using it, the travel to the land of Israel would have been between 11-14 days, definitely not 40 years. To me this text looks like a comment of the editor who already knew the end of the story However, the Holy Spirit saw fit to let us know from the very beginning of their journey that it was not God’s will to make things easy for the children of Israel. Here comes the wisdom of the Lord over our own human limited by time and space wisdom. Our normal human wisdom would say, “Men of Israel, you are running away from Egypt, get out of there as quick as possible, run baby run!” Here is our limitation and the Lord’s foreknowledge of things that will happen and things that He, the Almighty, thinks that it is the best thing that needs to happen with these liberated slaves. The Lord wanted to educate Israel, and give them the Torah, and have a virtual wedding at the foot of Mt. Sinai, and feed them the manna and sweeten their water, and train them to trust Him and see His faithfulness. The main reason that is given to us in the text above is: “Lest perhaps the people change their minds when they see war, and return to Egypt.” In other words, God wanted to take the children of Israel through bootcamp! The same God who wanted Egypt and the world to get acquainted with Him, the Creator of the World, through the hardening of the heart of Pharaoh, and to demonstrate to Egypt that He is the one who controls the forces of nature, the water in the Nile River, the locust, and the light and darkness, the weather, and life itself. I find it interesting that only the firstborn of Egypt, humans, and animals, died on that dark night when the Angel of Death went through the houses of Egypt and harvested their firstborn children. This, the Lord chose to do, to show that He, and He alone is in control of everything from nature to all human life. For us, these days, when the coronavirus is almost like the Angel of Death that visited Egypt on that night with the full moon, but the difference now, is that it is worldwide, from the East to the West, from the North to the South, on all seven continents. It is good for us to know and understand and believe and trust the Lord, even today during these fateful times with a virus is raging throughout the world. We who read the word of God must remember and learn and wake up to the simple truth that the only boss, the only king and the only true ruler who directs and controls and educates and prepares this world for anything is the Lord God of Israel – who so loves the world that He sent His only begotten Son… Let us all seek the Lord and repent of our personal sins and pray for our governments to repent and return to the Lord and His values and to a biblical faith and lifestyle. One impressive thing that has captured my attention is that as much as the children of Israel were in such a hurry, they didn’t forget to take the bones of Joseph with them to carry them to the land of Canaan and to bury Joseph together with Abraham, Isaac, Sarah, Rebecca, Leah and Jacob in Hebron. When you are leaving in such a hurry and don’t have much time and have children and stuff to carry, to remember the coffin (mummy) of Joseph that has been dead for at least 300 years is for me, quite impressive. The next big thing in this reading of the Torah is the crossing of the Red Sea. I am much more impressed by what happened before the crossing of the sea, before Moses struck the water with his staff, before the water parted, before the people stepped down and walked through the corals, and the reefs of one of the most beautiful underwater seascapes. Here is a short recap: The large hoard of Israelites, and the mixed multitudes of people, left Egypt with the wealth of the Egyptians and had that feeling of finally being “free at last.” After only a brief couple of days, they see a dust cloud rising into the sky behind them, and hear the noise of chariots, hundreds of chariots, maybe thousands. In front of them is the sea, behind them the Egyptian army ready for slaughter and to take them back to slavery with a vengeance. The situation looks hopeless! A sense of fear and horror engulfs them! The feelings of joy and hope that they left Egypt with, suddenly turn to horror and a nightmare. They start to blame Moses, and Aaron. I am sure that Moses himself and Aaron as well, didn’t know what to do! It is at this very point that logically, from a human point of view, disaster is at hand! By faith, Moses finds the following words to say to comfort the people: “And Moses said to the people, ‘Do not be afraid. Stand still, and see the salvation of the Lord, which He will accomplish for you today. For the Egyptians whom you see today, you shall see again no more forever. The Lord will fight for you, and you shall hold your peace.’” – Exodus 14:13,14 [NKJV] Moses finds just the right words at the right time to say in order to encourage the people. This is of great importance for those who stand in pulpits and speak the word of God to the people in these difficult times. Moses is not fabricating stuff or giving false prophecies. Moses knows God personally! The Lord prepared him and equipped him and Moses knew the Lord personally Moses knows that all that has happened in Egypt and to Egypt and all the wonders and miracles and plagues that he saw from God’s hand were not done to bring Israel to the wilderness of Sinai to die. Moses knew that even though to human eyes and to human logic the situation looks impossible the same God that wanted to show Egypt and the world that He is in control and that He is the King of the universe, will now do the same and teach the Egyptians and the Israelites that same lesson! “I am the Lord your God who brings you out of Egypt.” This is the kind of faith/trust that those of us living in these days of coronavirus have to restore in our relationship with the creator and with our savior. Just having faith in this or that doctrine, usually manmade doctrines that divide and create parties and sects, is not the essence of faith, the essence of faith is to trust in the Lord when our human minds can’t see the light at the end of the tunnel and know that He is there waiting for us with His open hands. Here is what the Lord told Moses: “And the Lord said to Moses, ‘Why do you cry to Me? Tell the children of Israel to go forward.’” – Exodus 14:15 [NKJV] This is one of these texts that I keep in mind always. The complaining and the crying and the dark clouds that we raise over our own heads, dark clouds that rob us of hope and keep us from joy and inject depression into our hearts. The Lord says to Moses – Stop crying, tell the people to go forward! But, let me take the side of the people here, and say that what the people see in front of them is the sea, and behind them Pharaoh and the Egyptian army. We have thousands of years of history and collective experience from Genesis to Revelation and another 2000 years of history and experience to know that God is faithful, and that He keeps His promises. Israel of today is the greatest proof that we can trust God and His promises and not cry and complain, but to ask where the door is, that will open up to us, so that we can go forward! To step out on God’s promises and to trust – to trust –the one true Lord. The next big story of this Torah reading is that after the crossing of the Red Sea and after the great victory over the Egyptians, less than two months after leaving Egypt, this is what the children of Israel said: “Then the whole congregation of the children of Israel complained against Moses and Aaron in the wilderness. And the children of Israel said to them, ‘Oh, that we had died by the hand of the Lord in the land of Egypt, when we sat by the pots of meat and when we ate bread to the full! For you have brought us out into this wilderness to kill this whole assembly with hunger.’” – Exodus 16:2,3 [NKJV] What can we learn about ourselves from this text? We could look at Israel through the eyes of anti-Semites and say: These nasty Jews, forever ungrateful and always wanting more and wanting something for free! From my experience in the Sinai Desert traveling with some of the most famous Pentecostal (Charismatic) church leaders of the West, I can tell you that when difficulties occur on the road and cars break down, those leaders, who are considered super spiritual and full of the Holy Spirit and perform miracles and cast out demons and heal the sick, act like faithless heathens, even when experiencing much lesser difficulties than the children of Israel faced. We are all human and all selfish, and in difficult situations, we all look out for number one, ourselves first. Put yourselves in the place of those Israelites that were born and raised in slavery. Yes, slavery, where you have no rights and no freedom, but someone takes care of your food and lodging no matter how poor and how hard your conditions might be. You don’t have to worry about it – you are like a horse in the stall – you work, you ride, you race, but the master brings you your corn and hay. Now, there is no one to feed you and there is nothing much around for you to go and pick from the field. So, see how our gracious Lord provides for those recently freed slaves, bread from heaven! Daily bread from heaven, fresh and free, provided by the grace of God, daily! I am not blaming the children of Israel! I am praising the Lord for His patience and grace, for His understanding of the people, and of their circumstances, and who for 40 years fed them the manna – bread from heaven. O Lord our Lord how wonderful are Your ways, and how great is Your love and patience with all Your children! We owe You so much!
Marcia and I have already been in total quarantine for eight days. We had a dear sister who tested positive, after having visited us. She is okay, and we are okay, but I ask you in particular, to pray for Marcia, that she not get infected, because she is not vaccinated. I have been vaccinated already twice, but I still wear a mask, and maintain social distancing when I go out.
We are at home still and the current closure will be at least until the end of January! I am working from home and am teaching just about every day on Netivyah’s Facebook page. These days I am teaching the book of 1 Samuel – it is a very important book that covers one of the major transition periods in Israel. I have also been teaching students in Italy, using Zoom, and some of the teachings are posted on the Netivyah Bible Instruction Ministry Facebook page. I am working on my book almost daily as well as cooking, and helping Marcia with some of the housework.
Bathsheba Derbaremdicker, Zvi’s wife, is recovering well from her cancer surgery.

Marcia’s mother June is 91 years old and her health is failing. Our sister from Jerusalem, Hadassah, had her surgery for cancer and is now at home recovering. Please keep her in your prayers.
We are praying for a three-year-old little girl who is ill with a rare illness and cancer. She lives with her family in California and we need to pray for her and her family to receive attention and healing from the Lord and to be allowed to grow up to serve His kingdom.
I am adding a new prayer request from a leader of God’s people in India, Joy Mathew. Joy has a serious heart condition and has asked for prayer.

Please see your prayer as casting a vote for healing before the Lord and His angels in Heaven in favor of every brother and sister that you are praying for. Just a word of grace for all of us is a refreshing spirit. Take your prayers before the mercy seat of the Almighty to be heard in favor of those that you are lifting in prayer.
Please add to your prayers the family of Um Mahmud Abu-Eid and Jimmy their son. I believe that this is a good thing for us to pray for friends and acquaintances who are Muslims. Pray for Israel. We are going through terrible riots and violence in the streets of Jerusalem and Tel-Aviv and other places around the country. These riots are motivated by the fact that much of the populace of Israel does not understand what the government is doing in relationship to the coronavirus pandemic.
Netivyah has been feeding the poor of Jerusalem for more than 25 years and we have a highly appreciated humanitarian ministry that is working with the Jerusalem municipality. As the demands for food for people who never before needed such help grows, I pray that the Lord will inspire and motivate brothers and sisters and ministries who can help with this to visit our webpage and do what they can to make it possible for us to double or more than double, the number of people and families that we serve.
Our prime minister’s case is still before the courts. I am not happy that this is happening in Israel, but I am praying that true justice and righteousness is exhibited in our court system. The truth must come out and I am not interested in a second prime minister of Israel going to jail. We have had a president in jail, a finance minister in jail, a minister of interior affairs in jail, and a member of the parliament in jail. Enough!
From our congregation in Jerusalem, we ask you to join us in prayer for the following dear brothers and sisters: Gary, Melanie, Sarit, Gabriela, Ahuva, Leah, Ilana, Hannah, young Gabriela, Jonathan B. and his wife Aviva and their new baby.
Pray for some dear friends, Rabbi Salt, and his family and Rabbi Hasselblad. They are both older and need protection and blessings.
The coronavirus is threatening the economy of the world with a great recession and depression. Some of our major supporters have already lowered the amount of their support. They have done this not only toward Netivyah, but for all the ministries that they are supporting, and they are many. I would like to first ask you to pray about your part in supporting Netivyah Bible Instruction Ministry.
Second, I would like for you who stand with us in prayer and financially to do your absolute best to stay on board with us and communicate. We realize that times will be hard for several years, but we also realize that God has chosen and blessed you for such a time as this.
Third please pray for a new project that we are starting in Israel in partnership with the Houses for Healing ministry from Abilene, Texas.
The aim is to provide hospitality for families of critically ill patients who are hospitalized in one of Jerusalem’s hospitals and who have no means to stay in hotels while their family members are in the hospitals.
This is a critical need especially in these days when there are hundreds of men and women who are in the Coronavirus ICU units for weeks and even months.
We need your prayer and your help to make this a meaningful and significant blessing both to the sick and to their families…
I wish all of you, who stand with Israel and who pray for Jerusalem, the best of the Lord’s blessings and the fulfillment of all His promises to His faithful children. Those who hear God and do His will are the ones who are called wise! Those who only hear His word and don’t do it are called foolish! Let us all strive to be wise and never foolish! The best is yet to come!
