예루살렘 기도 목록 – 2021년 6월 17일

이스라엘 정치에서 일어나고 있는 일들과 가자지구에서 계속되고 있는 공격과 저희 지역 안팎의 이 모든 총체적 혼란 배후의 코로나바이러스는 이번 주 안식일 토라 포션을 다루기에 좋은 배경이 됩니다.

이번 주에 읽는 토라 포션은 히브리력의 탐무즈월의 첫 번째 안식일에 걸립니다(탐무즈라는 이름은 바벨론식 이름이며 고대 중동의 최악의 우상 중 하나입니다). 현대 히브리력은 주전 586년 이후 바벨론 유수 때 도입한 것입니다.

토라 포션은 “파라샷 후캇”, 민수기 19:1~22:1입니다. 선지서에서 읽는 하프타라는 사사기 11:1-33이며, 신약성경에서는 요한복음 3:1-21을 읽습니다.

제가 이 토라 포션을 가르치고 싶은 마음이 드는 것은, 이 토라 포션에는 신약성경에 중요한 의미가 있는 아주 중요한 교훈이 몇 가지 있기 때문입니다. 또 사사기 11장 하프타라에서도 가르치고 싶은 것은, 가장 매혹적인 사사 중 하나인 길르앗 사람 입다의 이야기가 있기 때문입니다. 길르앗 사람이라고 함은 그가 요단강 동편 비옥한 농사 지역인 길르앗 출신이라는 뜻입니다.

저는 제가 1962-64년 미국 조지아주 남부에 있을 때 교회에서 즐겨 부르던 노래를 기억하고 있습니다:

“길르앗에는 상처 입은 자를 온전케 하는 연고가 있다네. 길르앗에는 죄로 병든 자를 치유하는 연고가 있다네. 때때로 나는 낙담되기도 하지. 기도 가운데 성령이 내 영혼을 다시 소생시키신다네. 길르앗에는 상처 입은 자를 온전케 하는 연고가 있다네. 길르앗에는 죄로 병든 자를 치유하는 연고가 있다네.”

이 찬송 가사를 듣자마자 저는 전쟁에 이겨 집에 돌아갔을 때 그를 맞으러 나오는 첫 번째 것을 제물로 바치겠노라 맹세했던 사사 입다가 생각났습니다. 그는 그를 맞으러 나올 그 첫 번째 “것”이 그의 딸이 될 것이라고는 결코 상상도 못했습니다.

아무 것도 입다에게 그가 주님께 한 맹세를 지키지 못하게 막을 것이 없었습니다. 길르앗에는 입다의 대승 이후 그의 슬픔을 치유할 연고가 없었습니다.

이번 토라 포션은 개인적으로 제게 큰 의미가 있고 여러분에게도 그러기를 바라는 이야기가 두 개 있습니다. 제가 이 토라 포션에서 논하고 싶은 첫 번째 이야기는 붉은 암송아지와 관련된 흥미로운 관례입니다. 여러분은 히브리서 저자가 우리 메시아 예슈아께 적용한 모형 중 하나가 붉은 암송아지라는 것을 모르셨을지도 모릅니다.

히브리서 저자는 붉은 암송아지와 토라가 붉은 암송아지에 적용한 관례를 예슈아께 적용하고 있고, 또 그것을 1세기 예슈아의 제자들에게도 적용하고 있습니다. 저는 이것이 우리에게도 적용된다고 믿습니다. 히브리서 13: 9-15입니다:

“여러 가지 다른 교훈에 끌리지 말라 마음은 은혜로써 굳게 함이 아름답고 음식으로써 할 것이 아니니 음식으로 말미암아 행한 자는 유익을 얻지 못하였느니라 우리에게 제단이 있는데 장막에서 섬기는 자들은 그 제단에서 먹을 권한이 없나니 이는 죄를 위한 짐승의 피는 대제사장이 가지고 성소에 들어가고 그 육체는 영문 밖에서 불사름이라 그러므로 예수도 자기 피로써 백성을 거룩하게 하려고 성문 밖에서 고난을 받으셨느니라 그런즉 우리도 그의 치욕을 짊어지고 영문 밖으로 그에게 나아가자 우리가 여기에는 영구한 도성이 없으므로 장차 올 것을 찾나니 그러므로 우리는 예수로 말미암아 항상 찬송의 제사를 하나님께 드리자 이는 그 이름을 증언하는 입술의 열매니라.” – 히브리서 13:9-15

바친 제물 중 아무도 그 고기를 먹지 못하는 유일한 제물이 붉은 암송아지라는 점을 주목하십시오. 진영 밖에서 드려지는 유일한 제물도 붉은 암송아지입니다. 문둥병자를 정하다고 선언할 수 있는 유일한 제물이며, 진영 밖, 성문 밖에서 태워졌습니다.

히브리서 저자의 요점은 예슈아께서 성문 밖, (사회적으로 정치적으로) 진영 밖에서 바쳐졌다, 그분의 제자들도 성 안에 남아 있어서는 죄를 깨끗케 함과 용서가 없음을 깨달아야 한다는 것입니다(히브리서는 주후 70년 예루살렘 멸망 직전에 기록되었습니다).

예슈아께서 계신 곳, 그분의 십자가에 못 박히신 것은 붉은 암송아지처럼 진영 밖, 예루살렘 성문 밖이었습니다. 그 연대가 예루살렘 멸망 및 파괴 직후인 탈무드의 붉은 암송아지에 대한 흥미로운 본문이 발견되었습니다.

“한 이방인이 랍비 요하난 벤 자카이에게 물었다, ‘당신들이 하는 이 의례는 사술같이 보이는데요! 암송아지를 가져다 그것을 태워 빻고 그 재를 가져가니까요. [혹시] 당신들 중 한 명이 시체에 노출되어 부정해질 경우[최고로 부정한 경우], 두세 방울을 그에게 뿌리고 그에게 정해졌다고 선언하니까요?!’ 그[랍비 요하난 벤 자카이]가 그에게 말했다, ‘떠돌아다니는 영이 당신 안에 들어간 적이 있소?’ 그가 그에게 말했다, ‘아니오!’ ‘떠돌아다니는 영이 들어간 사람을 본 적 있소?’ 그가 그에게 말했다, ‘네!’ 그러자 그[랍비 요하난 벤 자카이]가 그에게 말했다, ‘그럼 당신은 그를 위해 뭘 했소?’ 그는 그에게 말했다, ‘뿌리를 가져와 그의 밑에 연기를 피우고 물을 붓지요. 그러면 그것이 달아납니다.’ 그가 그에게 말했다, ‘당신 귀는 당신 입을 떠난 것을 들어야하오! 이 영, 부정한 영도 마찬가지요, 기록된 바와 같이, (스가랴 13:2) “내가 거짓 선지자와 더러운 귀신을 이 땅에서 떠나게 할 것이라.” 사람들이 그 위에 정하게 하는 물을 뿌리면 그것[부정한 영]이 도망가는 것이오.’ 그가 떠난 후, 우리 랍비의 학생들이 말했다, ‘선생님이 갈대로 그를 밀쳐냈습니다. 우리에게 뭘 말씀하시겠습니까?’ 그가 그들에게 말했다, ‘단연코, 죽은 사람이 무엇을 부정하게 만드는 것이 아니며, 물이 무엇을 정하게 만드는 것도 아니다. 그보다는, 하나님께서 말씀하셨다, “내가 한 규례를 새겨두었고, 내가 한 명령을 명했으니(후카 하칵티, 게제이라 가자르티), 너희는 내가 명령한 것을 어길 허가를 받지 못했다, 이른바 ‘이것이 토라의 호크(규례)이다.’”’” – 미드라쉬 랍바 민수기 19:8

랍비 문헌의 이 본문이 흥미로운 것은, 이것이 예루살렘 성전 파괴 시기와 너무 가까운 시기에 일어난 사건이기 때문입니다. 랍비 요하난 벤 자카이는 사실 바울이 했던 것과 똑같은 일, 즉 계명을 영적으로 해석하고 그것을 성전이 없이도 세계 어느 곳에서든 실행할 수 있게 만들고 있습니다.

랍비 요하난의 주요한 태도변화는 성전이 더 이상 없다는 현실 때문에 강제된 것이었고, 이제 “죽은 사람을 만지는 것이 부정하게 만드는 것이 아니며, 붉은 암송아지의 재를 넣은 물이 무엇을 정하게 만드는 것이 아니다. 너희 마음에 새겨진 토라가 모든 의례보다 더 중요하다.”는 것입니다.

이번 토라 포션에서 세 번째 것도 우리 주 예슈아와 연관되어 있습니다. 이것은 시내 광야에서 이스라엘의 불충에 대한 치유이며 광야에서 뱀 재앙을 그치게 것입니다. 그 치유는 높이 들린 놋뱀인데요, 그 놋뱀을 바라본 사람들은 뱀에 물린 것에서 치유 받아 살아나는 것이었습니다.

이 이야기는 이사야가 메시아와 연관시켜 말한 개념의 모형입니다:

“보라 내 종이 형통하리니 받들어 높이 들려서 지극히 존귀하게 되리라 전에는 그의 모양이 타인보다 상하였고 그의 모습이 사람들보다 상하였으므로 많은 사람이 그에 대하여 놀랐거니와 그가 나라들을 놀라게 할 것이며 왕들은 그로 말미암아 그들의 입을 봉하리니 이는 그들이 아직 그들에게 전파되지 아니한 것을 볼 것이요 아직 듣지 못한 것을 깨달을 것임이라.” – 이사야 52:13-15

이 말씀과 상호 참조해야 할 말씀이 신약 요한복음 3:14-15입니다:

“모세가 광야에서 뱀을 든 것 같이 인자도 들려야 하리니 이는 그를 믿는 자마다 영생을 얻게 하려 하심이니라.” – 요한복음 3:14,15

요즘처럼 미움과 혼란과 우리 정치인들 간의 무고가 난무한 때에 온 이스라엘은 광야에서의 뱀 재앙과 아주 이상한 수단으로, 즉 놋으로 뱀을 만들어 그것을 높은 장대에 달아 사람들이 그것을 보고 치유 받게 하시어 그 재앙을 고치신 하나님의 치유법을 기억해야 합니다.

우리가 알아야 하는 것은 컵이나 장대를 휘감고 있는 뱀은 그리스와 이집트의 치료와 약의 신 아스클레피오스의 상징이라는 것입니다. 하나님께서는 해방된 이 종들이 그분께서 그렇게 말씀하셨기 때문에 이 이상한 치유법을 믿을 수 있을 만하다는 인상을 주시기 위해 그들에게 친숙한 것을 사용하셨습니다. 예슈아께서는 히스기야왕 시대에는 우상이 되어 히스기야가 성전에서 제거하여 없애버려야 했던 놋뱀을 실현하신 분이 되셨습니다.

우리에게는 하나님으로부터 받은 좋은 것을 가지고 사람들이 가져다 우상을 만든 것이 있습니다. 저는 때때로 기독교인들이 살아계신 하나님의 아들, 우리 메시아 예슈아를 가지고 똑같이 하는 것 같아 우려됩니다. 기독교인들은 예슈아를 십자가에 높이 달고 그 예슈아를 믿으면서 우리 구주이신 이 갈릴리 유대인이 그 십자가에서 내려오신 것을 소중히 여기지 않습니다. 그분께서 십자가에서 내려오셨으면 그분의 발로 많은 기독교 지도자들을 가공할만한 힘으로 그들의 엉덩이를 차실 것을 아시기 때문입니다.

친애하는 형제자매님들, 여러분은 토라와 선지서와 신약성경을 서로 연관 짓는 것이 얼마나 중요하며 그들이 어떻게 서로 연관되어 있는지 알 수 있을 것입니다. 그것은 모두 우리의 교훈과 바르게 함과 선하고 거룩하고 옳고 우리 삶에 유익한 일을 하도록 고무하기 위한 성령의 계시이기 때문입니다.

이스라엘과 새 정부를 위해 이스라엘에 있는 저희와 저희의 아랍 이웃들에 유익하고 거룩하고 의로운 모든 것을 적용하는 방법을 아는 용기와 지혜가 충분하도록 기도해 주시기 바랍니다.

인도와 브라질에는 아직도 코로나바이러스로 아주 심각한 어려움 가운데 있어 우리의 기도가 필요한 형제자매님들이 많이 있습니다. 우리는 인도와 브라질을 위해, 특히 이 두 나라에 있는 우리 형제자매들을 위해 계속 기도해야 합니다. 저는 인도 첸나이에 있는 우리의 귀한 이삭 형제님한테서 특별 기도 부탁을 받았습니다. 이삭 형제님은 저희에게 특별히 쉴라 스티븐 자매님을 위해 기도해 달라고 부탁했습니다. 쉴라 자매님의 폐는 산소가 심히 필요한데, 지금 코로나바이러스 환자들을 위한 산소를 찾는 것이 아주 어렵다고 합니다.

마르시아를 위해 계속 기도해주시기 바랍니다. 마르시아는 월요일에 백내장 수술을 받았습니다. 당뇨병이 있는 사람이 각각의 눈에 백내장 수술을 받기 위해 여러 레이저 수술을 받는 것은 좀 복잡하지만, 주님께 찬양 드리는 것은 마르시아가 수술을 받고 집에서 회복 중이어서입니다. 여러분의 기도에 마르시아를 기억해 주시기 바랍니다! 저희는 노인병 전문의에게 건강검진을 받았는데요, 3년 전과 같은 결과였습니다. 이것은 좋기는 한데, 저희 둘 다 겪고 있는 노령의 다른 문제들도 있기에, 특히 마르시아는 우리 기도가 필요합니다.

제 왼쪽 눈 수술의 회복은 느리긴 하지만 조금씩 나아지고 있습니다. 의사들은 자기들의 업적에 매우 기뻐하고 있고 70년 동안 실명했다가 시력을 회복한 제 사례에 대해 의학 논문을 쓸 계획입니다.

The Jerusalem Prayer List – June 17, 2021

The events in Israeli politics and the continued aggression from Gaza and the coronavirus in the background of all this inside and outside total mess in our region is a good background for dealing with the Torah portion of this coming Sabbath.

This week’s reading is on the first Sabbath of the Hebrew month of Tammuz (the name is Babylonian and it is the name of one of the worst idols in the ancient Middle East). The modern Hebrew calendar is imported from the Babylonian Exile after 586 B.C.E.

The reading is Parashat Chukat, Numbers 19:1–22:1. From the prophets, the Haftarah is from Judges 11:1-33. From the New Testament, we are reading John 3:1-21.

I am tempted to teach from the Torah because there are a few very important teachings in this Torah portion that have important significance for the New Testament. I am tempted to teach from the Haftarah of Judges 11 because it has the story of one of the most fascinating judges, Jephthah, the Gileadite. Gileadite means that he comes from the Gilead. The rich agricultural east side of the Jordan River.

I remember well a song that we used to sing in church when I was in South Georgia in 1962-64:

“There is a balm in Gilead to make the wounded whole. There is a balm in Gilead. To heal the sin-sick soul. Sometimes I feel discouraged. And deep I feel the pain. In prayers the holy spirit. Revives my soul again. There is a balm in Gilead. To make the wounded whole. There is a balm in Gilead. To heal the sin-sick soul.”

The lyrics of this hymn immediately remind me of the judge, Jephthah, who took an oath that he would sacrifice the first thing that comes out to greet him when he returned home, if he wins the battle. He never imagined that the first “thing” that would come to greet him would be his daughter.

Nothing could make Jephthah not keep his oath to the Lord. There was no balm in Gilead to heal Jephthah’s grief after his great victory over the enemy.

The Torah portion has two great stories that have great implications for me personally and I hope for you too. The first narrative that I would like to discuss from the Torah portion is the interesting practice with the Red Heifer. You might not realize that one of the models that the writer of the book of Hebrews applies to Yeshua our Messiah is the Red Heifer.

The writer of the book of Hebrews takes the Red Heifer and the practices that the Torah applies to it and applies it to Yeshua and takes this, and applies it to the disciples of Yeshua in the First Century, and I believe that it also applies to us. Here is the text from Hebrew 13: 9-15:

“Do not be carried about with various and strange doctrines. For it is good that the heart be established by grace, not with foods which have not profited those who have been occupied with them. We have an altar from which those who serve the tabernacle have no right to eat. For the bodies of those animals, whose blood is brought into the sanctuary by the high priest for sin, are burned outside the camp. Therefore Jesus also, that He might sanctify the people with His own blood, suffered outside the gate. Therefore let us go forth to Him, outside the camp, bearing His reproach. For here we have no continuing city, but we seek the one to come. Therefore by Him let us continually offer the sacrifice of praise to God, that is, the fruit of our lips, giving thanks to His name.” – Hebrews 13:9-15 [NKJV]

Notice that the only sacrifice that is offered, that no one eats from, is the Red Heifer. The only sacrifice that is offered outside the camp is the Red Heifer. The only sacrifice that can declare the leper clean was burned outside the camp, outside the gate of the city.

The point of the writer of Hebrews is that Yeshua was sacrificed outside the gate of the city and outside the camp (socially and politically) and His disciples also must understand that there is no purification and forgiveness of sins left in the city (Hebrews was written just at the eve of the fall of Jerusalem in 70 A.D.).

Yeshua’s place and His crucifixion was outside the camp outside of the city gate of Jerusalem like the Red Heifer. An interesting text is found in the Talmud about the Red Heifer dated to just after the fall of Jerusalem and the destruction of Jerusalem.

“A gentile asked Rabbi Yochanan ben Zakkai, ‘These rituals that you do, they seem like witchcraft! You bring a heifer, burn it, crush it up, and take its ashes. [If] one of you is impure from exposure to a dead body[the highest type impurity], 2 or 3 drops are sprinkled on him, and you declare him pure?!’ He [Rabbi Yochanan ben Zakkai] said to him, ‘Has a restless spirit ever entered you?’ He said to him, ‘No!’ ‘Have you ever seen a man where a restless spirit entered him?’ He said to him, ‘Yes!’ Then he [Rabbi Yochanan ben Zakkai] said to him, ‘And what did you do for him?’ He said to him, ‘We brought roots and made them smoke beneath him, and pour water and it flees.’ He said to him, ‘Your ears should hear what leaves from your mouth! The same thing is true for this spirit, the spirit of impurity, as it is written, (Zachariah 13:2 [NKJV]) “I will also cause the prophets and the unclean spirit to depart from the land.” They sprinkle upon him purifying waters, and it [the spirit of impurity] flees.’ After he left, our rabbi's students said, ‘You pushed him off with a reed. What will you say to us?’ He said to them, ‘By your lives, a dead person doesn't make things impure, and the water doesn't make things pure. Rather, God said, “I have engraved a rule, I have decreed a decree (chukah chakakti, gezeira gazarti), and you have no permission to transgress what I decreed, as it says ‘This is a chok (rule) of the Torah.’”’” – Midrash Rabbah Numbers 19:8

This text from the rabbinical material is interesting because it is an event that took place very close to the destruction of the Temple in Jerusalem. Rabbi Yochanan ben Zakkai actually is doing the same thing that Paul did – spiritualized the commandment and made it practicable anywhere in the world, even without the Temple.

The major change of attitude of Rabbi Yochanan is forced by the reality that the Temple is no longer, and now the “touching a dead person doesn’t make you impure, and the water of the ashes of the Red Heifer does not make things pure. The Torah that is engraved in your heart is what matters more than all the rituals.”

The third point from the Torah portion is also connected with Yeshua our Lord. It is the cure for the unfaithfulness of Israel in the wilderness of Sinai and the stopping of the plague of the snakes in the wilderness. The cure was a brass snake that was lifted up and those who looked on that brass snake were cured from the snake bites and lived.

This story is the model of the idea that Isaiah states and connects to the Messiah:

“Behold, My Servant shall deal prudently; He shall be exalted and extolled and be very high. Just as many were astonished at you, So His visage was marred more than any man, And His form more than the sons of men; So shall He ]sprinkle many nations. Kings shall shut their mouths at Him; For what had not been told them they shall see, And what they had not heard they shall consider.” – Isaiah 52:13-15 [NKJV]

The cross reference to this text is in the New Testament in John 3:14-15:

“And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must the Son of Man be lifted up, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have eternal life.” – John 3:14,15 [NKJV]

These days of so much hate and so much disorder and false accusations between our politicians, all of Israel needs to remember the plague of the snakes in the wilderness and God’s cure of that plague with such a crazy instrument, the snake made from brass, and lifted up high on a tall rod, so that people could see it and be cured.

What we must realize is that a snake wrapped around a cup or a rod is the symbol of Asclepius, the Greek and Egyptian God of healing and medicine. God used something that these liberated slaves were familiar with to impress them enough so as to believe in this strange cure because He said so! Yeshua becomes the fulfillment of that brass snake that in the days of King Hezekiah becomes an idol that Hezekiah has to take out of the Temple and destroy.

We have a good thing from God that people took and made an idol of it. I fear that sometimes Christians have done the same thing with the Living Son of God, Yeshua our Messiah. They lifted Yeshua on the cross and many Christians believe in Yeshua on the cross and they don’t cherish this Galilean Jew, our Savior, to come off the cross because they know that if He is off the cross He is going to use His foot and apply it to many of the Christian leaders on their behind with formidable force.

You can see, my dear brothers and sisters, how important it is to relate to the Torah and the prophets and the New Testament and how interconnected they are because they are all a revelation of God’s Holy Spirit for our instruction and correction and inspiration to do what is good and holy and right and beneficial for our lives.

Please pray for Israel and pray for the new government to have enough courage and wisdom to know how to apply everything that is good and holy and righteous for us in Israel and for our Arab neighbors.

Pray and support Netivyah during these very hard times, for opportunities to do good and to bless and feed and support the population of Israel, those in need whose number has increased by many percentage points during these difficult days in Israel.

Thank you, dear brothers, for praying for our dear sister Rita Sassai in Brazil. The Lord heard our prayers and our dear sister Rita is out of the hospital and at home. Please keep praying for sister Rita that she will continue to improve and be totally healed from the coronavirus. We are praying for Rita’s full healing and restoration of strength and energy to continue her ministry and take care of her family.

Please pray for a very dear sister and leader in one of our sister congregations in Vitoria Brazil, sister Rita Sassai. She is hospitalized with coronavirus, and is on a ventilator. It is urgent for you, and for all of us, to pray for Rita and beg God for her full recovery.

Sarit our sister from Jerusalem is still in the hospital and needs our prayer. She is passed 80 years old and needs our prayers.

We have many dear brothers and sisters in both India and Brazil who are still very much in serious trouble with the coronavirus situation and need our prayers. We need to continue to pray for India and Brazil and especially for our dear brothers and sisters in these two countries. I received a special prayer request from our dear brother Isaac in Chennai, India. Brother Isaac asked us to pray especially for sister Sheela Stephen. Sister Sheela’s lungs are in serious need of oxygen and right now oxygen is hard to find for coronavirus patients.

Please continue to pray for Marcia. Marcia had cataract surgery on Monday. For a diabetic person who has had many laser eye surgeries in each eye to have cataract surgery is a little more complicated but praise the Lord she had her surgery and is recovering at home. Please keep Marcia in your prayers! We had a checkup with our geriatric specialist and our scores are the same as three years ago. This is good but there are some other challenges of old age that we are both facing, and Marcia especially needs our prayers.

My left eye surgery is slow to improve but it does improve little by little. The doctors are very happy with their work and are planning to write medical papers about my case. Blind for 70 years has his eye sight restored.

Please pray for Yudah Chamero. Yudah’s father died and Yudah is on his way to Columbia for the burial of his father. Pray for the Lord’s mercy and grace to comfort the Chamero family and strengthen their faith in the eternal promises of our Lord.

Keep praying for the Rosenfeld family, the young and the old.

Please pray for a dear brother, Malcolm Thomas King from the UK. Malcolm is already a week in hospital in critical condition. I don’t have any new information from Malcolm and his family.

Please consider helping Netivyah to continue caring and feeding the poor of Jerusalem and blessing the people of this city that need help to feed their children and families.

Also we need your prayers and help to continue to do the Lord's work with the youth in Jerusalem.

Please pray for the Teaching from Zion publication that has been printed and distributed by the thousands around the world free of charge. You can also subscribe to receive the Teaching from Zion Magazine by mail, a hard copy. This too is free of charge. The Lord has always been faithful to supply our needs. He has also been precise and provided what we need, not too little and not too much.

The Hamotzi program for feeding the needy of Jerusalem is ongoing and has not stopped during most of the coronavirus lockdown and quarantine. The number of needy people who come to receive food from our program has increased and overall need has increased.

Please pray for Netivyah and for the Netivyah leadership and find ways to partner and participate in the great blessing that the ministry of Netivyah is here in Israel and also around the world. Please pray and seek ways to partner and contribute financially for the Lord’s work in Netivyah Bible Instruction Ministry.

Both Yehuda and I continue to teach on Zoom and on YouTube and on the Netivyah Facebook every week and sometimes every day. Please pray for these teachings to bear fruit for the Kingdom of God. Enjoy the very fine teaching and enjoy learning from God’s Word. It is all free of charge!

Pray for all those wonderful, dedicated brothers and sisters in Korea who stood with Israel and with Netivyah to revive and to not forget their first love for Israel and for Netivyah.

Danah our daughter, needs much prayer for her health and her situation. Our granddaughter Noam is a senior in high school and working with Zoom to finish her high school. Pray for the Lord to give Noam guidance and direction for graduation from high school.

Our grandson Joseph also needs prayer to be able to get into college with proper scholarships. Please lift Barry our son and his family, Beth, and Joey our grandson to be protected and spared any contact and infection of the coronavirus. Marcia’s mother June is 91 years old and her health is failing.

I am adding a new prayer request from a leader of God’s people in India, Joy Mathew. Joy has a serious heart condition and has asked for prayer.

We have received many letters of gratitude and praise for our scholarship fund through which we support more than 40 Israeli disciples of Yeshua who are students in Israel’s fine academic institutions and universities.

The gratitude and appreciation of these students is such an encouragement and refreshing hope for the future generation of Jewish Disciples of Yeshua in this land. Netivyah has been doing this for longer than 30 years and we have generations of students from all of Israel and from most of the Messianic congregations in Israel.

For a season we had a special fund to support Arab Christian medical students and we have supported dozens of Arab Christians from the Galilee with their medical school studies. It is a great program that Netivyah started many years ago and the fruit of these scholarships has produced lawyers and doctors and pharmacists, nurses…

We need your prayers and your support to be able to continue this wonderful work of creating the next generation of disciples of Yeshua in this God-given land of Israel.

Just a word of grace before the mercy seat of the Almighty will be heard in favor of these brothers and Um Mahmud Abu-Eid and Jimmy Abu-Eid and his family, Keijo and Salme our dear brothers in Finland, Tim Tucker, Satu-Maria, Sinni Tuuli, Anne Mirjami our dear sister and all our other brothers and sisters in Finland who need our prayers, Eva H., Patty, Andrea, Julia and Victor, and Aaron Tani, and Hillel and his wife.

We continue to pray for Zhou Wenrian, Abe family, Toru San, Takeo Sensei, Daisuke Sensei, Tomoko San, Yumi and her father Pastor Ohara, George, and Pastor Isaac in Chennai, India.

I have just received a prayer request from a dear sister from Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Her father who is 70 years old and diabetic has contracted the COVID-19 virus. His name is Paulo C. Pereira Braga Dias.

Please see your prayer as casting a vote for healing before the Lord and His angels in Heaven in favor of every brother and sister that you are praying for. Just a word of grace for all of us is a refreshing spirit. Take your prayers before the mercy seat of the Almighty to be heard in favor of those that you are lifting in prayer.

Pray for Israel. We are going through terrible riots and violence in the streets of Jerusalem and Tel-Aviv and other places around the country. These riots are motivated by the fact that much of the populace of Israel does not understand what the government is doing in relationship to the coronavirus pandemic.

I would like a new prayer request for a dear brother Yehuda Hochman who lives in the Negev Desert. Yehuda has to receive Dialysis treatment several times per week.

From our congregation in Jerusalem, we ask you to join us in prayer for the following dear brothers and sisters: Gary, Melanie, Sarit, Gabriela, Ahuva, Leah, Ilana, Hannah, young Gabriela, Jonathan B. and his wife Aviva and their new baby.

Pray for some dear friends, Rabbi Salt, and his family and Rabbi Hasselblad. They are both older and need protection and blessings.

Please pray for our two grandchildren. They are both graduating in a few weeks from high school. They are both facing this important change in their lives. Noam our granddaughter also has her 18th birthday on May 1st. This is a very big day for Noam. She will be free from high school and also from other obligations and be privileged to make her own decisions and choices in life. Pray for Noam on this major crossroad of life for her and ask the Lord to bless Noam and to give her clear direction and guidance for what is good and right and holy in her life.

Both Noam and Joseph, our two grandchildren, are extremely talented and good students. Both are “A” students and excellent young people, but both need divine protection and guidance to make good and smart and right choices for life.

When I was 18 years old and cut off from my family because of my faith in the Messiah, I had no one on my side and no one to guide me. The Lord’s providential leading and guidance was the only guide that I had. I praise the Lord for His goodness and direction in my life.

I pray that both Joseph and Noam will have such divine strength and vision for their own future that only right and good choices will be their gift from the Almighty God of Israel and Yeshua our Lord.
 

I wish all of you, who stand with Israel and who pray for Jerusalem, the best of the Lord’s blessings and the fulfillment of all His promises to His faithful children. Those who hear God and do His will are the ones who are called wise! Those who only hear His word and don’t do it are called foolish! Let us all strive to be wise and never foolish! The best is yet to come!
