2021년 12월 18일 이번 안식일의 토라 포션은 창세기 토라 포션 중 마지막 부분인, “바예히”, 창세기 47:28~50:26입니다. 선지서(하프타라)에서 읽는 부분은 열왕기상 2:1-2:12, 신약성경에서는 히브리서 11:21-22, 베드로전서 1:3-9를 읽습니다.

The Jerusalem Prayer List – December 16, 2021

The Torah portion for this Shabbat, December 18, 2021, is the last Torah reading from the book of Genesis, Vayechi, Genesis 47:28 – 50:26. From the prophets (the Haftarah) the reading is from 1 Kings 2:1 – 2:12, and from the New Testament it is from Hebrews 11:21-22, and 1 Peter 1:3-9.
This portion of the Torah was very popular and powerful in the intertestamental period, that is the period between the time of Ezra and Nehemiah and the establishment of the royal house of Harrod, i.e., the beginning of the 1st Century A.D., or as it is counted by Jews and others, the 1st Century C.E. The reason that this Torah reading was so popular and important is because Jews from the 3rd Century B.C. started to think that the blessings that Jacob gave his sons that are a major part of this Torah portion (Vayechi, “and he lived” in Hebrew) is prophetic and it has to do with the far future or the Messianic Period of the last days. There are important books written during that period called “intertestamental,” books that are based on Jacob’s blessings to his sons. The major one that has some important “messianic” elements is the Testaments of the Twelve Patriarchs. Here are some examples of the use of this book in the New Testament. A quotation from the testament of Levi 6:10-11 is found in 1 Thessalonians 2:16: “…forbidding us to speak to the Gentiles that they may be saved, so as always to fill up the measure of their sins; ‘but wrath has come upon them to the uttermost.’” – 1 Thessalonians 2:16 A quotation from the Testament of Gad 6:10 is found in Romans 12:19: “Beloved, do not avenge yourselves, but rather give place to wrath; for it is written, ‘Vengeance is Mine, I will repay,’ says the Lord.” – Romans 12:19 A quotation from the Testament of Benjamin 4:3 is found in Romans 12:21: “Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.” – Romans 12:21 A quotation from the Testament of Gad 5:7 is found in 2 Corinthians 7:10: “Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.” – 2 Corinthians 7:10 A quotation from the Testament of Naphtali 3:1 is found in Ephesians 5:6: “Let no one deceive you with empty words, for because of these things the wrath of God comes upon the sons of disobedience.” – Ephesians 5:6 I realize that this is not common knowledge in some Christian circles but for me it is important. This does not mean that the New Testament writers or the Holy Spirit is implying that this Pseudepigraphic Hellenistic Jewish literature is inspired, but, like Paul in Acts 17 used a quotation from a Greek poet, he also used literature that was very popular in his days among Pharisaic rabbis. Fragments of similar writings were found at Qumran, but opinions are divided as to whether these are the same texts from this book. What I am trying to share with you is that these last chapters of the book of Genesis were considered to be prophetic pointing to the last days, speaking about the eschatological events that will have an impact for the last days. The basis for these Jewish Hellenistic texts are the following words in Jacob’s blessings for the tribes: “And Jacob called his sons and said, ‘Gather together, that I may tell you what shall befall you in the last days.’” – Genesis 49:1 When the New Testament writers use quotations from this Jewish literature that was so popular in the time of the apostles it does not indicate that these outside books are all inspired by God, but it does indicate that they were popular and known in the days of the apostles. Here are some of Jacob’s blessings that have messianic implications in the Jewish Pharisaic circles of the Jewish communities of the time and also among the apostolic leaders. Although many of them were Galilean fisherman and not great Torah scholars in Jerusalem. They too were familiar and could quote from this outside literature. That is actually an indication that these Galilean fishermen were not ignorant from the spiritual literature that influenced the Jewish world in the land of Israel. Here is the commentary of Ramban (this is commentary on Genesis 49:1, by one of the greatest rabbis who lived in Spain, and later Egypt, in the 14th Century A.D.): “In the end of days. These are the days of the Messiah, for Jacob alludes to him in his words, even as he said, Until Shiloh come, and his be the obedience of peoples. Now our Rabbis have said that Jacob wished to reveal the end of Israel’s exile, but the Shechinah (the Divine Presence) departed from him. Thus, in the opinion of all scholars, the end of days is a reference to the days of the Messiah.” Genesis 49:9 – 12: “Judah is a lion’s whelp; From the prey, my son, you have gone up. He bows down, he lies down as a lion; And as a lion, who shall rouse him? The scepter shall not depart from Judah, Nor a lawgiver from between his feet, Until Shiloh comes; And to Him shall be the obedience of the people. Binding his donkey to the vine, And his donkey’s colt to the choice vine, He washed his garments in wine, And his clothes in the blood of grapes. His eyes are darker than wine, And his teeth whiter than milk.” – Genesis 49:9-12 [NKJV] This prophecy is one that is rather obscure, but it is interesting how rabbinical commentators stay with the tradition that there is a messianic promise and prediction in these words of Jacob that affirm that the Messiah will come from the tribe of Judah and the word “Shiloh” is interpreted in the following ways by some of the greatest medieval Jewish commentators: “…rabbinical and later interpreters, as a Messianic allusion to David, who never had much to do with Shiloh. There is even less of an excuse to import for the same purpose the rare Akk. noun šēlu ‘counselor,’ when Hebrew (and Akkadian) had various direct terms for ‘ruler.’ Now is the situation improved if šylh/w is emended to mšlh/w ‘his ruler’…” – Taken from the Anchor Bible Commentary on Genesis 49:9-10 The connection of Yeshua the Messiah with the tribe of Judah and the house of David is clearly confirmed in the first chapter of the Gospel of Matthew, and this stress that Yeshua is from the house of David is already made clear by Matthew in the very first verse of the Gospel: “This is the Good News of Yeshua the Messiah son of David son of Abraham.” – Matthew 1:1 It is good for us to know that this revelation is in concert and based on this text of Genesis as the rabbis (Pharisees) of the days of Yeshua saw it from their point of view, and may be revelation. There is one more curiosity in this Torah portion, and it comes from Genesis 48:16, where Jacob is speaking to Joseph and states the following: “The Angel who has redeemed me from all evil, Bless the lads; Let my name be named upon them, And the name of my fathers’ Abraham and Isaac; And let them grow into a multitude in the midst of the earth.” – Genesis 48:16 Jacob is telling Joseph and his sons that Abraham and Isaac his fathers were great evangelists and brought many souls to the faith in One God, “they fished for men among the inhabitants of the Earth.” The translators of the Hebrew Bible in the 17th Century didn’t understand or connect these words of Jacob with the word that is translated as “grew into multitude in the midst of the earth” – and therefore didn’t understand the Hebrew word “dag”. The root of the Hebrew word is “dag”, that means “fish” in Hebrew, and in this grammatical form it means “fished”. The basis on which Jacob says this to Joseph and his sons is Genesis 12:5: “Then Abram took Sarai his wife and Lot his brother’s son, and all their possessions that they had gathered, and the people whom they had acquired in Haran, and they departed to go to the land of Canaan. So they came to the land of Canaan.” – Genesis 12:5 [NKJV] The words translated into English, “The people (souls) whom they had acquired in Haran” ought to be translated based on the idiom of “acquiring souls” – is to evangelize – like in modern Hebrew today “la’asot nefashot” (“to make souls”). We know from Genesis 14 that Abraham had 318 men who were also his soldiers that went with Abraham to chase the five kings from the North to recapture Lot and his family and bring them back. So, yes, Jacob says that Abraham and Isaac his father and grandfather were great evangelists among the inhabitants of the land. There are endless treasures in the word of God from Genesis to Revelation. By diminishing the importance of the Torah and the “Old Testament” and for the most part ignoring it, our Christian brothers are cutting off the very branch that they are sitting upon. It is tragic, but more than that, it needs to be fixed and understood that the New Testament is not a standalone book. It is a continuation of the same narrative and revelation of the Holy Spirit that starts in Genesis and ends in the book of John’s Revelation. Of course, the knowledge of the original languages helps to understand God’s revelation unfiltered.

A dear brother and pastor Jorge from Belo-Horizonte, Brazil, is in the hospital with the same breathing issues. Please lift these brothers and sisters in your prayer and intercede for them before God’s throne for mercy and healing.
Please continue to pray for our dear Brother Keijo Lindeman who will have his 76th birthday on Christmas day. Pray for him and his wife Salme. They are both in their mid-70’s and with less than perfect health like all people who are in their mid-70’s. I pray for the Lord to bless and heal them and give them the strength that they need to continue their so very important ministry for Finland and for Israel.
The so-called Christian West, including the governments and their heads that go to church every Sunday don’t seem to care what the radical Muslims are doing to their Christian brothers and sisters.
This is true now especially in Afghanistan, but not only there! We the disciples of Yeshua must not forget the innocent blood that is being poured out like water on these lands where Christians are treated worst than a goat led to the slaughter.
Pray that the seats of power in the so-called Christian Countries wake up and do something intelligent and smart to save, take out, stop, the suffering of the few Christians who have survived the massacres and the rapes and the beheadings in the hands of radical Islamic terrorists like the Taliban in Afghanistan, but not only there.
Pray for Israel and the American-Iran negotiations (negotiations in Vienna, Austria.). Israel is threatened with total inhalation by Iran that is already a threshold nuclear country. This is a serious issue and especially after World War II, a threat like this must be taken seriously by all people but especially by those who call themselves Christians!
Christians must wake up and remember Martin Luther’s hymn, “Onward Christian Soldiers Marching as to War with the cross of Jesus going on before!” I don’t mean to encourage physical war against anyone, but I do mean to encourage the churches to stand on their feet and condemn such blatant and clear intentions by Iran (now) to delete Israel off the map of the world.
If you are waiting for the Messiah to return to Zion, you must pray for Israel, stand with Israel, support Israel, and especially those of the household of faith in the land of Israel.
Now Steve Mock is at home after the massive CVA (stroke) but with major challenges in his speech and mobility.
Our dear friend Mahmud Abu-Eid’s sister Gouzlan is very sick, and also Mahmud’s mother needs our prayers. The Abu-Eid family is one of the finest and dearest families of Palestinian friends and soul brothers that we have. Please lift them up in your prayers.
Pray and support Netivyah during these very hard times all around us, for opportunities to do good and to bless and feed and support the population of Israel, those in need whose number has increased by many percentage points during these difficult days in Israel.
Pray for our opportunities to do good and to be a blessing to the needy population in Jerusalem, and to believers who are students at the universities. God gives opportunities of joy and privilege and every opportunity that the Lord gives us to do good and to be a blessings, is also a test of our judgement and charity.
I ask for a special prayer for the spiritual authorities of the Orthodox Jewish world to wake up and seek unity and cooperation and partnership with each other and with the secular population of Israel (the majority).
Keep praying for the Rosenfeld family, the young and the old.

The Hamotzi food distribution program is going in full capacity during the holiday season and generously giving wonderful food, to over 150 families who are referred to us by the social Department of City Hall of Jerusalem. These families will have no lack on their holiday tables and their families will be able to bless the Lord for His mercy endures forever through your contributions and generosity.
The needs in the neighborhoods of Jerusalem are growing because of the unemployment of this coronavirus period and the needs of these dear people are growing. In order to supply the increased number of families that we are helping, we need the Lord to impress you, our dear brothers around the world, to also increase your prayers for Jerusalem and take advantage of the opportunities that the Lord is giving us and you, to help those in need.
Please pray for Netivyah and for the Netivyah leadership and find ways to partner and participate in the great blessing that the ministry of Netivyah is here in Israel and also around the world. We must pray for all our men who are right now serving in the Israeli Army both in the reserves and in the regular army. We must lift them up in prayer for protection and for their witness among the other soldiers with whom they serve.
Pray for all our wonderful, dedicated brothers and sisters in Korea, who stood with Israel and with Netivyah, to revive and to not forget their first love for Israel, and for Netivyah. Please pray for Korea Israel Bible Institute (KIBI) and for the two scientists who started KIBI in 1996 and who have been a great blessing to Israel and to the Jews in many countries, and also to us in Israel.
Keep Ruby Little in your prayers, our dear sister from Oklahoma City. Ruby just had some important tests and to see what the situation with her cancer and I am praying and asking you too to pray for Ruby our dear sister and ask the Lord to heal her.
I am also asking you to keep praying for Allison Howard Williams, the daughter of one of my important friends and teachers, Dr. George Howard who has crossed the river to the other side waiting for that great day of the Lord.
Please lift these brothers and sisters in your prayers: Angela Isby, Deborah Isaiah, Aries Franklin Mayers Sr., and Tony Black. Keep praying for Nancy, Don and their son Aaron Hook, Rachel David Kim’s wife – Jingyung Lee. These are some older brothers and sisters who need God’s grace and His support to be a blessing to their lives and keep them safe in the palm of His hand!
Dr. Yuizawa, Tiz H., Lion H., Ilana Abramov, Cynthia Parveen’s sister, have improved from their illness but still need the Lord’s blessings and strength to keep improving.
Remember the following brothers and sisters from the Roeh Israel Congregation in Jerusalem; Sarit, Gabriela, Ahuva, Leah, Ilana, Hannah, young Gabriela, Jonathan B. and his wife Aviva and their baby. Pray for Sister Yoko Nagumo in Japan. Sister Yoko had a stroke, and we pray that her recovery will be quick and complete.
From Chennai, India, please remember Pastor Isaac. Pastor Isaac is an older man with severe kidney problems and has to have dialysis several times per week. Remember Tony and Louisa Tam, and our brothers and sisters at the 611 Church, and the other churches who love God and love Israel in that great city. Remember in your prayers the Cohen family in Hong Kong.
I am asking for you to pray for a dear sister Ema in China. She is a wonderful and very dear servant of the Lord and is in special need of much prayer and guidance from God.
Just a word of grace before the mercy seat of the Almighty will be heard in favor of these brothers and Um Mahmud Abu-Eid and Jimmy Abu-Eid and his family, Keijo and Salme our dear brothers in Finland, Tim Tucker, Satu-Maria, Sinni Tuuli, Anne Mirjami our dear sister and all our other brothers and sisters in Finland who need our prayers, Eva H., Patty, Andrea, Julia and Victor, and Aaron Tani, and Hillel and his wife.
We continue to pray for Zhou Wenrian, Abe family, Toru San, Takeo Sensei, Daisuke Sensei, Tomoko San, Yumi and her father Pastor Ohara, George, and Pastor Isaac in Chennai, India.
Please pray for the Rantavaara family and especially for Pekka our dear brother and for his whole family. Pekka is in advanced stages of Parkinson and needs the Lord’s healing and strength.

Please keep in your prayers a dear sister who attends our congregation in Jerusalem. Her name is Hadassah and she just had cancer surgery. Pray for Hadassah for a full recovery and remission from any cancer in her body.
All these brothers and sisters are faithful to the Lord and a blessing to Netivyah and to Israel. Please don’t neglect to pray for them all, by name!
I would like a new prayer request for a dear brother Yehuda Hochman who lives in the Negev Desert. Yehuda has to receive Dialysis treatment several times per week.

Pray for some dear friends, Rabbi Salt, and his family and Rabbi Hasselblad. They are both older and need protection and blessings.
Please pray for our two grandchildren. They are both graduating in a few weeks from high school. They are both facing this important change in their lives.
Please pray for Yeshua College in Harare, Zimbabwe. We have a number of teachers in this new college for the Lemba, tribe in Africa from the Netivyah Staff in Jerusalem, and from Brazil.
It is a major challenge and a project of such great importance. Yehuda and Daniel and Matheus and I are the only teachers now, but we must pray for more teachers.
The students are adults, already leading congregations in the countryside of Zimbabwe and coming to Harare for three weeks to study and sharpen their tools to do the work of the Lord in their country and among the Lemba tribe.
