예루살렘 기도 목록 – 2022년 6월 9일

주목하시기 바랍니다:
몇 년에 한 번씩 유월절이나 오순절 이후 몇 주 동안 이스라엘에서는, 세계의 다른 곳보다 한 토라 포션을 앞서 갑니다.
이번 주 이스라엘 외 지역의 토라 포션은 “나쏘”이고, 여러분은 여기에서 이것에 대해 배우실 것입니다.
이번 안식일에 우리가 읽을 토라 포션은 “베하알롵하”라고 하며, 민수기 8:1~12:16입니다. 이번 안식일 토라 포션의 히브리어 뜻은 “너희가 등잔대를 세울 때”입니다. 선지서에서 읽을 말씀은 스가랴 2:14-4:7이고, 신약성경에서는 고린도전서 10:6-13와 요한계시록 11:1-19를 읽습니다. 여러분은 이렇게 읽는 부분은 어떻게 정해지는 것이고 안식일마다 어떤 말씀을 읽을지를 누가 정하느냐고 질문할지 모르겠습니다. 그 대답은 두 부분으로 나뉘어 있습니다! 토라 포션은 에스라와 느헤미야 시대만큼 오래되었습니다. 공중 토라 낭독의 첫 번째 기록은 느헤미야 8장에 있습니다. 신약성경에서 토라와 선지서를 읽는 관행은 이미 잘 확립되어 있었습니다. 우리는 예슈아께서 나사렛 회당에서 이사야 61장을 읽도록 청함받은 것을 볼 수 있습니다. 우리는 또 바울이 소아시아와 그리스에서 그가 간 회당에서 말씀을 읽도록 청함받는 것을 볼 수 있습니다. 베뢰아(데살로니가 북쪽)에서는 바울이 석 달을 머물며 토라 포션을 읽고 읽은 말씀에서 예슈아에 대해 말씀을 전했습니다. 신약성경 시대에는 토라를 읽는 주기가 3년이었습니다. 우리 시대에는 토라를 읽는 주기가 1년입니다. 이것은 우리가 읽는 분량이 주후 1세기 때 읽는 분량보다 길다는 의미입니다. 모든 회당에서 토라 다음에 읽는 하프타라(선지서에서 읽는 부분)는 토라의 주제에 맞춰 전통으로 정해졌습니다. 이것은 보통 토라에 보너스적 성격의 본문인데요, 적어도 토라가 언급하고 있는 주요 주제를 일부 다룹니다. 우리가 신약성경에서 읽는 말씀은 여러 지도자들이 정합니다. 회중마다 다를 수 있는데요, 신약을 읽는 전통은 비교적 새로운 것이기 때문입니다. 그래도 역시 토라와 선지서에서 읽는 말씀과 연관된 주제에 근거하여 천천히 전통을 만들어가고 있습니다. 제 생각에는 소위 “메시아닉 회당”이든 모든 거듭난 교회든 모든 예슈아의 제자들이 같은 성경 포션을 읽는 것이 현명하고 좋고 영적으로 건강한 것 같습니다. 제가 권하는 이유는 이렇습니다: 첫째, 매주 그리고 매년 다시 처음부터 공중에서 하나님의 말씀을 읽으면 공동체의 숙달 정도가 향상됩니다. 늦게 배우는 사람조차 하나님의 말씀을 공중 낭독할 때 뭔가를 습득합니다. 둘째, 토라와 선지서와 신약성경을 읽으면서 하나님의 말씀 중에서 중요한 세 부분을 함께 아우릅니다. 하나님의 성령이 이 세 성경 본문 모두에 어떻게 개입해 계신지 쉽게 볼 수 있습니다. 이것이 아주 중요한 이유는 기독교회가 힘써 토라와 선지서의 중요성을 폄하해왔기 때문입니다. 기독교회는 최선을 다해 소위 “구약성경”과 신약성경을 떼어놓으려 했습니다. 예루살렘 교회 사도들과 장로들이 이방인 형제들에게 매주 안식일에 회당에 가서 하나님의 말씀을 공중 낭독하는 것을 들으라 명한 것을 잊고서 말입니다. 여러분은 사도들의 관행에서도, 예슈아의 이방인 제자들에게 안식일에 회당에 가서 하나님의 말씀을 공중 낭독하는 것을 들을 것을 강력히 권하는 사도행전 15:19-21에서도 이것을 아주 분명히 볼 수 있을 것입니다. 우리는 고대 초대 교회 시절에 토라 두루마리를 가지고 있었다는 것이 아주 특별한 일이었음을 기억해야 합니다. 로마제국 안에 있던 대부분의 유대인 공동체는 모세오경 두루마리를 가지고 있었지만, 아주 소수 공동체만이 선지서를 모두 담은 두루마리를 가지고 있었습니다. 우리는 역사 자료를 통해 몇몇 공동체에는 두루마리가 하나뿐이었고 또 어떤 공동체는 두루마리가 몇 개 있었다고 들었지만, 주후 2세기 말(280년 경)에 가서야 유대인 공동체가 창세기부터 역대하까지 (히브리 전통에 따른 성경책 순서) 모든 정경을 갖게 되었다고 합니다. 주후 70년에서 280년 사이에 야브네에서 최종 결정이 내려졌습니다. 셋째, 제 생각에 비-유대인 공동체는 각 공동체의 숙달의 중요성 때문에 사도들이 명한 이러한 성경 관행을 다시 시작하는 것이 마땅한 것 같습니다. 전 세계 교회에서 성경에 대한 무지 정도는 매우 심한데요, 개신교회에서는 아주 오랫동안 그들이 들은 유일한 성경은 그들의 목사가 설교에 주제로 사용한 본문의 몇 구절뿐이었습니다. 설교는 대중에게 마틴 루터가 바라던 것처럼 하나님의 말씀을 가르치는 목적에 맞춰져 있지 않았습니다. 마틴 루터가 바라던 것은 사람들이 자기 나라 말로 성경을 갖게 된 후에야 일어날 수 있었을 것이었습니다. 그런데 자기 나라 말로 성경을 갖고 난 후에도 하나님의 말씀을 알게 되는 일은 일어나지 않았고 지금도 일어나고 있지 않습니다. 교회가 토라와 선지서와 신약성경에서 관련된 말씀을 함께 읽어야 하는 중요한 또 다른 이유는 나라로서의 이스라엘 및 전 세계 공동체로서의 이스라엘과 동일시하고 연합을 이루기 위해서입니다. 몇몇 가톨릭 후기 교부들과 유럽의 종교개혁 이후 개신교도들은 힘써 유대인들과 그들의 공동체와 완전히 결별하고 그들과의 정중한 관계를 비난했습니다. 그래서 제 생각에는 교회가 다시 창세기부터 요한계시록까지 하나님의 말씀으로 되돌아가 회복되고 교회와 이스라엘의 건강하고 복된 관계 수립을 위해 유대인 공동체와의 관계를 회복하는 일이 절대적으로 중요하고 필요합니다. 민수기 8장 1절부터 시작되는 이번 토라 포션의 첫 몇 구절, 특히 4절과 5절은 요한계시록의 첫 세 장을 이해하는데 있어서 매우 중요합니다. 예슈아의 사랑하는 제자 요한은, 현대 터키 해안에서 좀 떨어진 에게해 밧모섬 꼭대기에 있는 동굴에서 소아시아의 교회들의 상태를 들여다보고 있었는데요, 필시 그들의 상태와 그들의 끔찍하고 이교도적 행습 때문에 매우 심란했을 것입니다. 그래서 그는 그 교회들을 아론과 모세가 시내 광야에서 만든 메노라(촛대) 형상으로 정리합니다. 요한은 그 일곱 교회를 하나님께서 이스라엘을 위해 만들라 명하신 일곱 촛대로 그립니다. 촛대(메노라)는 대가 일곱 개입니다. 이것은 한 덩어리의 정금을 쳐서 메노라 모양으로 만들었습니다. 모든 대가 가운데 기둥에 연결되어 있지만, 길이와 높이가 다 똑같지는 않습니다. 메노라는 형을 떠서 만든 것이 아니라, 금을 쳐서 정교한 모양으로 만든 것입니다. 메노라 형상은 하나 됨과 다양성의 의미를 모두 전달합니다. 저는 그 형상이 요한이 주후 1세기 말 소아시아 교회들에 전한 메시지의 한 부분이었다고 믿습니다. 주로 예슈아의 사도 바울이 세운 교회들은 심각한 영적 질병이자 끔찍한 이단성을 발전시켰습니다. 메노라의 형상은 하나 됨과, 다양성과, 고난과 인내와 그들의 공통되고 개인적인 문제를 다루는 일의 중요성과, 하나님의 구원 계획으로부터 영적, 도덕적으로 벗어난 모습의 상징이었습니다. 이번 안식일 토라 포션에서 우리는 매우 중요한 하나님의 원칙, 그분의 백성 특히 이스라엘과의 관계에서 매우 중요한 원칙 중 하나를 볼 수 있는데요, 그분께서는 토라에 맞춰 백성을 구부리시는 것이 아니라, 토라를 백성에 맞춰 다시 정리하신다는 것입니다. 이 원칙은 민수기에서 최소 두 번 나옵니다. 첫 번째는 이번 토라 포션에서 하나님께서 니산월 14일에 출타하거나 유월절을 지킬 수 없는 “특별한 사정”이 있는 사람들에게는 유월절을 조정해 주신 것입니다. 하나님께서는 하늘에 계시는 뻣뻣하고 심술궂은 노인이 아니셨고 결코 그러신 적이 없습니다. 하나님께서는 토라에 있는 문제를 이해하시고 조정해 주셨으며 새롭고 특별한 리더십의 본을 보여주셨습니다. “그 때에 사람의 시체로 말미암아 부정하게 되어서 유월절을 지킬 수 없는 사람들이 있었는데 그들이 그 날에 모세와 아론 앞에 이르러 그에게 이르되 우리가 사람의 시체로 말미암아 부정하게 되었거니와 우리를 금지하여 이스라엘 자손과 함께 정한 기일에 여호와께 헌물을 드리지 못하게 하심은 어찌함이니이까 모세가 그들에게 이르되 기다리라 여호와께서 너희에게 대하여 어떻게 명령하시는지 내가 들으리라 여호와께서 모세에게 말씀하여 이르시되 이스라엘 자손에게 말하여 이르라 너희나 너희 후손 중에 시체로 말미암아 부정하게 되든지 먼 여행 중에 있다 할지라도 다 여호와 앞에 마땅히 유월절을 지키되 둘째 달 열넷째 날 해 질 때에 그것을 지켜서 어린 양에 무교병과 쓴 나물을 아울러 먹을 것이요 아침까지 그것을 조금도 남겨두지 말며 그 뼈를 하나도 꺾지 말아서 유월절 모든 율례대로 지킬 것이니라.” — 민수기 9:6-12 저는 유대인 공동체든 기독교회든 영적 지도자들이 종교적 전통이나 신학적으로 목이 곧은 율법주의보다 사람이 더 중요하다는 것을 이해하는 그런 지도자들이기를 얼마나 바라는지 모릅니다! 하나님께서는 모세와 제 때에 유월절을 지킬 수 없는 사람들에게, “괜찮다, 한 달 후에 유월절을 지킬 수 있는 기회가 다시 있다. 그렇게 하더라도 죄로 여기거나 이상한 행태라고 여기지 않을 것이다. 유월절이나 안식일이나 다른 절기들은 유대인의 것도, 기독교인들의 것도 아닌, ‘나의 때와 계절’이기 때문이다.” 말씀하셨습니다. 저는 하나님의 신실하심과, 사람의 사정을 이해하시는 그분의 이해심과, 때와 계절에 대한 그분의 유연한 태도와, 또 우리의 연약함을 대하시는 그분의 태도가 정말 좋습니다. 성경 전체를 관통하는 하나님의 율법과 요구는 하나님 중심이 아닌, 사람 중심입니다. 하나님께 다가가 그분과 관계를 맺는 방식은 우리가 이 땅의 우리 가족과 동료 사람과 관계 맺는 방식으로 정의됩니다. 이 원칙을 보여주는 예가 아주 많지만, 지면의 한계로, 신약성경에서 한 예밖에 보여드릴 수 없을 것 같습니다: “그러므로 예물을 제단에 드리려다가 거기서 네 형제에게 원망들을 만한 일이 있는 것이 생각나거든 예물을 제단 앞에 두고 먼저 가서 형제와 화목하고 그 후에 와서 예물을 드리라.” — 마태복음 5:23,24 매주 토라 포션과 선지서 포션과 보너스로 읽는 신약성경 말씀은 제게 다시 하나님의 말씀을 상기시켜주고 제 영혼을 살찌우며 광야의 강 같이 제 신앙을 다시 새롭게 해줍니다. 저는 저의 귀한 형제자매인 여러분도 성경 말씀을 읽으시고 오늘날 우리의 공동체의 영적 상태에 너무도 필요한 신선하고 좋고 시원한 물로 적셔지시게 되기를 바랍니다.

The Jerusalem Prayer List – June 9, 2022

Every few years for a few weeks following either Passover or Shavuot, in Israel, we are one Torah portion ahead of the rest of the world.
This week’s portion, outside of Israel, is Naso, which you learn about here.
This Shabbat we will be reading the Torah portion called “Beha’alotcha” from Numbers 8:1-12:16. The Hebrew meaning of this Shabbat’s portion is “when you set up the lamp stand”. From the prophets the reading will be from Zechariah 2:14-4:7, and from the New Testament we will be reading from 1 Corinthians 10:6-13, and Revelation 11:1-19. You might ask how are these reading decided and who makes these decisions of what will be read each Sabbath? The answer has two parts! The reading of the Torah is as ancient as Ezra and Nehemiah. The first recorded public reading of the Torah is in Nehemiah chapter 8. In the New Testament the practice of the reading from the Torah and the prophets was already well established. We find Yeshua invited to read from the prophet Isaiah chapter 61 in the synagogue in Nazareth. We find Paul being invited to read in Asia Minor and in Greece in the synagogues that he attended. And in Berea (north of the city of Thessaloniki) Paul stayed for three months, and was reading and preaching about Yeshua from the Torah portions that they were reading. In the New Testament period the reading of the Torah was in a three-year cycle. In our day the reading of the whole Torah is in a one-year cycle. This means that our readings are longer than they were in the First Century of our common era. The Haftarah (the reading of the prophets) that is read after the Torah in all the synagogues is decided by tradition according to the subject matter of the Torah. It is normally complimentary to the Torah, dealing with at least some of the main topics that the Torah is mentioning. Our reading of the New Testament is decided by different leaders, and it can vary from congregation to congregation because our tradition is relatively new. But there is slowly a formation of a tradition also based on the subject matter that relates to the reading of the Torah and the prophets. It is my personal opinion that it is wise and good and spiritually healthy for all disciples of Yeshua to read the same scripture portions in both so-called “messianic synagogues” and in all the born-again churches. Here are the reasons for my recommendations: First, the level of proficiency of the community increases by the public reading of God’s Word every week and every year again from the beginning. Even the slow learners pick up something from hearing the Word of God being read in public. Second, the readings from the Torah and from the prophets, and then from the New Testament, tie these three important sections of the Word of God together. It is easy to see how the Holy Spirit of God is involved in all three sections of the scriptures. This is extremely important, because the Christian churches have worked hard to diminish the importance of the Torah and the prophets. They have done their very best to separate the so-called “Old Testament” from the New Testament. Forgetting the commandment of the apostles and elders of the church in Jerusalem to the Gentile brothers to go on every Sabbath to the synagogue to hear the Word of God publicly read. You can see this so clearly both in the practice of the apostles themselves, and also in Acts 15:19-21, as a strong recommendation for the Gentile disciples of Yeshua to go to the synagogue on the Sabbath day to hear the Word of God being publicly read. We must remember that having a scroll of the Torah in the ancient world of the early centuries of our common era was a very special thing. Most Jewish communities in the Roman Empire had the five books of Moses in a scroll, but very few had the full scroll of the prophets. We hear from historical sources that some had one scroll and others had a few scrolls, but only toward the end of the Second Century in the common era (around 280 CE) do we hear of Jewish communities that had all the cannon from Genesis to the end of 2 Chronicles (according to the Hebrew tradition of the order of the biblical books). The final decisions were made in Yavneh between 70-280 CE. Third, the non-Jewish communities ought, in my opinion, reintroduce this biblical practice that was commanded by the apostles because of the importance of the proficiency of their communities. The level of ignorance of the scriptures in the churches in the world is very high because, for years and years, in the Protestant churches, the only scriptures that they hear is the proof texts that their pastors use to make their own point in their sermons. The sermons are not geared for teaching the Word of God to the masses, like M. Luther was hopping would happen after the people had the Bible in their own vernacular languages. It didn’t happen and it is not happening now. An important and additional reason for the churches to read from the Torah, from the prophets, and from the New covenant is the identification and joint union with Israel as a country and a community worldwide. Some later Catholic church fathers, together with Protestants, after the Protestant Reformation in Europe, worked hard to totally separate and condemn any respectful relationship with the Jews and their communities. So to restore the relationship with the Jewish communities, in my opinion, is absolutely important and needed for the restoration of the church back to the Word of God — from Genesis to Revelation — and the building of a healthy and blessed relationship of the church and Israel. The first verses of our Torah reading from Numbers 8:1 (especially verses 4 and 5) are very important for understanding the first three chapters of the book of Revelation. John, the beloved apostle of Yeshua, from the cave on top of the Island of Patmos in the Aegean Sea, off the coast of modern Turkey, was looking into the conditions of the churches of Asia Minor, and probably was deeply disturbed by their condition and by their horrible and heretical practices. So, he arranges the churches in the image of the menorah of the Tabernacle that Aaron and Moses built in the wilderness of Sinai. The seven churches are imagined by John as the seven lamp stands commanded by God for Israel. The candelabra (the menorah) had seven lamp stands. It was made from one piece of gold, hammered into the shape of the menorah. All the candles were connected to the central shaft, and their were not all made the same height and length. The menorah was not molded, but it was hammered into the intricate shape. The image of the menorah conveyed both unity and diversity. I believe that that image was a part of John’s message to the churches of Asia Minor in the end of the First Century of our common era. The churches that were established mainly by Paul the apostle of Yeshua had developed some serious spiritual sickness and horrible heresies. The menorah picture was a symbol of unity and diversity and the importance of the suffering, the standing, and the dealing with their common and individual problems, and spiritual and moral deviations from God’s plan of salvation. In the Torah reading this Shabbat we also have one of the very important principles of God and of His relationship to people, and especially to Israel, and rearranging the Torah to fit the people, as opposed to bending the people to fit into the Torah. This principle is revealed in the book of Numbers at least twice. The first time is in our Torah portion God, adjusting the Passover for the people with “special needs” because they were absent or not fit to celebrate the Passover on the 14th day of Nissan. God was not and never has been a stiff and cantankerous old man in the sky. He understood the problem in the Torah and adjusted and gave new and special examples of leadership. “Now there were certain men who were defiled by a human corpse, so that they could not keep the Passover on that day; and they came before Moses and Aaron that day. And those men said to him, ‘We became defiled by a human corpse. Why are we kept from presenting the offering of the Lord at its appointed time among the children of Israel?’ And Moses said to them, ‘Stand still, that I may hear what the Lord will command concerning you.’ Then the Lord spoke to Moses, saying, ‘Speak to the children of Israel, saying: “If anyone of you or your posterity is unclean because of a corpse, or is far away on a journey, he may still keep the Lord’s Passover. On the fourteenth day of the second month, at twilight, they may keep it. They shall eat it with unleavened bread and bitter herbs. They shall leave none of it until morning, nor break one of its bones. According to all the ordinances of the Passover they shall keep it.”’” — Numbers 9:6-12 [NKJV] How I wish that the spiritual leadership of both the Jewish communities and the Christian churches had that kind of leadership that understood that people are are more important than religious traditions and theological stiff-necked legalism. God said to Moses and to these people who couldn’t keep the Passover in time, “Fine men, you can have a second chance to keep the Passover a month later and it will not be counted for you as a sin or strange practice, because the Passover and the Shabbat and the other holidays don’t belong to the Jews or to the Christians — they are ‘My times and seasons.’” I love God’s faithfulness and His understanding of our human condition and His flexible attitude toward the times and seasons, and also God’s attitude toward our weaknesses. God’s laws and demands through the whole bible are not theocentric (God in the center of our spiritual experiences), they are anthropocentric (the human being is at the center of our relationship and our spiritual experiences). The way to reach and have a relationship with God is by our relationship to our earthly families and our relationship to our fellow humans. There are so many examples of this principle that space doesn’t allow me to give you more than one of the examples from the New Testament: “Therefore if you bring your gift to the altar, and there remember that your brother has something against you, leave your gift there before the altar, and go your way. First be reconciled to your brother, and then come and offer your gift.” — Matthew 5:23,24 [NKJV] Every week the reading of the Torah and the prophets, and the complimentary reading from the New Testament, both remind me and enrich my soul — refreshing my faith like rivers in the desert. I hope that you, my dear brothers and sisters will read your bibles and be watered with the fresh, good, and cool water that is so much needed for today’s spiritual condition of our communities.

Sarit, a sister born in Jerusalem, over 80 years old, lives alone. Has no close family, and suffers from several old age illnesses.
David Stern, a dear old brother and friend. Suffering from advanced stage of Parkinson’s.
Yehuda Hochman, a dear older brother living in the Negev desert with some illness that needs healing.
Marcia Shulam, my dear wife, who is suffering from severe diabetes and rheumatoid arthritis and now also from memory loss. Just yesterday she was diagnosed with dementia. Childhood-onset Diabetics are susceptible to memory problems. Marcia can’t be left alone, and I must stay home most of the days of the week, and if I leave the house someone has to come and stay with Marcia to make sure that she takes her insulin.
Please put Marcia Shulam and me, Joseph Shulam in your daily prayers. We trust in the Almighty God His mercy is sufficient for us, but prayer by honest and sincere brothers and sisters can surely wake up God’s mercy and at least stop the deterioration of Marcia’s memory.
Pray for Adam R., Adam works in Netivyah as the media director and he, like Yehuda and Daniel, has been raised in Netivyah congregation in the Galilee. Adam has lost much of his hearing as a result of a virus. Pray for Adam and his family of 8 children.
Pray for Adam’s father and mother, Barry and Dalia. They too have some health problems and challenges.
Pray for Miriam and for Hannah her daughter. Miriam is a dear sister and has lost her husband recently. Pray for Daniel S. and his children. Our dear leader in the Ro’eh Israel congregation, Gary, and his health, and for his wife Melanie and their family.
Pray for Um Mahmud Abu-Eid and Jimmy Abu-Eid and all of the family. This is a dear family of old friends that needs healing and wisdom for the children and for their work.
Lift for blessing and healing Jonathan B. and his wife Aviva and their new baby, his mother and his brother Daniel. Pray for these very important men of God: Rabbi Salt, and his family, and Rabbi Hasselblad. They are both older and need protection and blessings.

We had a wonderful visit of our dear sister from London, Celestine King. She volunteered in the HaMotzi food program in Netivyah and we enjoyed fellowship with this precious dear sister from London. I must say that I had not enough fellowship with dear sister Celestine King because of my schedule these crazy days, and my need to be home with Marcia. She is a widow working hard and faithfully supporting Netivyah ministry for so many years.
We bless our dear sister Celestine with health and blessings from Heaven for her life and her family. We pray for the Lord to be her comfort and provide sister Celestine all her physical and her spiritual and her social needs with His grace.
Pray for our dear brother Daniel B. and his dear wife that the Lord will bless them and protect them. They live now in Wales. May the Lord watch over them.
Pray for our dear brother Reuven from Netivyah who is living and working in London now and pray for his wife. Pray that they both are protected and blessed and that Reuven’s wife finds a good job in London.
Pray for Deborah Isaiah. I pray for the Lord to find Deborah Isaiah and lead her to a blessed life and family and a solution to her problems.

But, I will participate in the seminar in honor of Dr. Tim Tucker in Finland on Zoom. Please pray for the Tucker family both those in Finland and also in the USA.

Fernanda Nothen Becker, our dear sister has problems with her job that cause her pressure and challenges. Pray for the social situation in Fernanda’s work to turn and her suffering to turn to joy and friendship.
