예루살렘 기도 목록 – 2022년 6월 2일
요셉 슐람 우리는 이번 안식일에 세 가지가 새로 시작됩니다: 1. 이번 안식일 토라 포션은 민수기 첫 포션이 시작됩니다. 2. 오메르, 곡식단 세기 50일째 되는 날입니다. 3. 토요일 저녁부터 오순절이 시작됩니다. 예루살렘에 있는 저희 “이스라엘의 목자(로에 이스라엘)” (네티비야) 회당에서는 이번 안식일 2022년 6월 4일 (히브리력 5782년 시반월 5일) 오순절(샤부옷)에 토라 포션 “바미드바르”, 민수기 1:1-4:20을 읽습니다. 선지서에서는 호세아 2:1-23, 신약성경에서는 로마서 9:22-33; 누가복음 24:50,51; 사도행전 1:9-11을 읽습니다. 첫째, 저는 히브리 성경의 각 책의 이름이 다른 언어 번역본과 다른 이유를 다시 설명해드리고 싶습니다. 그 이유는 단순합니다. 히브리 모세오경의 다섯 책은 이름이 없습니다. 각 책을 나눌 때 첫 번째로 중요한 의미가 있는 단어가 각 책의 이름입니다. 히브리 성경의 책 이름이 다른 언어 번역본의 이름과 맞먹는 유일한 책은 창세기입니다. 창세기라는 이름은 영어와 헬라어와 다른 모든 언어가 히브리 이름, “베레쉿”(태초에)과 같은 의미입니다. 민수기가 이 이름으로 불리게 된 것은 첫 네 장이 실제로 출애굽기에서 명령 받은 인구 조사의 결과를 다루고 있기 때문입니다. 그렇습니다, 첫 네 장에서는 우리에게 각 지파별 장정 수, 20세에서 50세 사이의 남자 수를 알려줍니다. 그 수에는 쉽게 정당화할 수 있을 만한 숫자의 불일치가 좀 있지만, 저는 토라에 그러한 불일치가 있는 것이 아주 기쁩니다. 그리고 저는 심지어 출애굽기 20장 십계명과 신명기 5장 십계명 사이에 다른 점이 있는 것도 아주 기쁩니다. 성령님의 감동으로 된 성경에 이런 문제가 있는 것에 대해 제가 기쁜 이유는 하나님께서 이것을 도전과제로 만드셨기 때문입니다. 하나님께서는 우리가 “심각한 문제” 같아 보이는 이 문제들을 생각하고 궁리하지 않으면 안 되게 만드신 것입니다. 이스라엘에 있는 예슈아의 유대인 제자들과 싸우며 이들을 박해하는 정통유대교 유대인들이 토라와 신약 사이의 숫자의 불일치를 거론하면, 저는 영화 하이눈의 개리 쿠퍼 같이 제 총을 꺼내들고 그들에게 쏘아댑니다. 토라와, 사무엘상과 역대하에도 있는 이 문제는 더 심각하기 때문입니다. 저는 하나님의 성령이 성령의 감동으로 된 진리의 성경을 우리에게 주셨다고 믿습니다. 그러나 그 진리의 일부는 아브라함, 이삭, 야곱, 모세, 다윗왕 등등에서부터 신약성경의 사도들에 이르기까지 우리 조상들의 죄를 폭로한 것입니다. 인간인 우리는 무엇이든 우리의 영웅인 모든 것을 우상으로 만드는 경향이 있습니다. 우리는 신약성경에서조차 이런 일이 있습니다: “형제들아 내가 신령한 자들을 대함과 같이 너희에게 말할 수 없어서 육신에 속한 자 곧 그리스도 안에서 어린 아이들을 대함과 같이 하노라 내가 너희를 젖으로 먹이고 밥으로 아니하였노니 이는 너희가 감당하지 못하였음이거니와 지금도 못하리라 너희는 아직도 육신에 속한 자로다 너희 가운데 시기와 분쟁이 있으니 어찌 육신에 속하여 사람을 따라 행함이 아니리요 어떤 이는 말하되 나는 바울에게라 하고 다른 이는 나는 아볼로에게라 하니 너희가 육의 사람이 아니리요?” — 고린도전서 3:1-4 신약성경에도 구약성경에서처럼 똑같은 문제가 있는 것은 실제로 우리로 하여금 하나님의 말씀을 생각하고 계산해보고 궁리하지 않으면 안 되게 만드신 것은 성령님께서 하신 일입니다. 저는 종교인들 중에 비판적 사고를 하는 것이 정통이 아니라는 것을 알지만, 제가 성경 본문을 보면서 그 안에서 좀 까다롭고 다른 점을 보면 저는 흥분하게 되는데요, 하나님께서 어떻게 우리에게 도전하여 그분을 우리에게 드러내보이시는지 하나님을 이해할 수 있는 새로운 문을 열어주기 때문입니다. 하나님께서는 실제로 진실로 우리를 종교성의 족쇄에서 해방시켜 성령의 자유 안으로 들어가게 하시는 하나님의 진리를 이해하도록 우리에게 도전하시는 것입니다. 이스라엘 자손이 요단강을 건너 이스라엘 자손에게 영원한 소유로 약속된 가나안 땅으로 들어가기 전에 왜 이들을 모두 계수해야 했을까요? 토라에서 인구조사의 목적은 세 가지입니다: 1. 20세에서 50세 사이의 장정으로 구성된 하나님의 거룩한 군대를 일으킴. 2. 레위인 수로 이스라엘의 장자 구속. 이 수는 레위지파 남자의 수로 이스라엘의 장자를 구속하기 위한 것입니다. 3. 하나님의 산 곁에서 말씀하신 대로 제비뽑기로 가나안 땅을 나누기 위해. 형평성 있도록 지파의 크기에 따라 그들이 약속의 땅 가나안에서 받을 영토의 크기를 정했습니다. 민수기 1:1-4:20 토라 포션에서 좀 더 흥미로운 현상 중 하나는 “두령”으로 불리는 지파의 지도자들의 이름입니다. 광야 시대 이스라엘 지도자들의 이름에는 두 가지 주요 속성이 있습니다: 신성한 이름과 그들 지파의 지도자 이름. 다음은 몇 가지 예입니다: “너희와 함께 설 사람들의 이름은 이러하니 …” — 민수기 1:5 성경 본문의 지파와 지도자 이름 — 이름의 의미 르우벤, 스데울의 아들 엘리술 — 하나님은 나의 반석, 전능자는 나의 빛 시므온, 수리삿대의 아들 슬루미엘 — 나의 평안은 하나님, 나의 반석은 전능자 유다, 암미나답의 아들 나손 — 두령, 내 백성은 선물로 받았다 잇사갈, 수알의 아들 느다넬 — 하나님의 선물, 소수 (작다) 스불론, 헬론의 아들 엘리압 — 내 하나님은 아버지, 힘, 즉 군대의 아들 에브라임, 암미훗의 아들 엘리사마 — 내 하나님께서 나의 소리를 들으신다, 내 민족은 연합되었다 므낫세, 브다술의 아들 가말리엘 — 하나님은 내게 은혜로우시다, 반석으로 구속받았다 베냐민, 기드오니의 아들 아비단 — 내 아버지는 심판자, 형 집행자 단, 암미삿대의 아들 아히에셀 — 내 형제는 나의 도움, 내 민족은 강하다 아셀, 오그란의 아들 바기엘 — 하나님께 드리는 나의 간청, 이기는 자, 진압하는 자 갓, 드우엘의 아들 엘리아삽 — 하나님께서 내게 더하셨다, 주께서 아신다 납달리, 에난의 아들 아히라 — 내 형제는 친구, 보는 자 지파 지도자들의 이 명단이 우리에게 계시하는 것은 첫째로 하나님께서 가나안 땅에 들어가는 세대의 의식에 매우 중요한 역할을 하셨다는 것입니다. 시내 광야 40년 방황 후에, 주님께서는 이스라엘 자녀들의 문화에 중요한 역할을 하고 계신 것입니다. 이 때문에 사람들은 하나님의 신적 이름을 담은 이름으로 자녀들에게 이름을 지어줍니다. 둘째로 우리가 보는 것은 가족, 아버지, 형제, 나라의 중요성입니다. 일반적으로 기독교인들이 광야 세대를 생각할 때 그 세대에 대해 부정적인 태도를 가지고 있습니다. 그러나 지파 지도자들의 이름에서 우리는 약간 다른 그림을 얻습니다. 우리는 예레미야 2장에서 시내 광야에서 40년이라는 긴 기간 동안 하나님과 이스라엘 사이의 다른 관계를 보여주는 흥미로운 말씀을 발견합니다: “가서 예루살렘의 귀에 외칠지니라 여호와께서 이와 같이 말씀하시기를 내가 너를 위하여 네 청년 때의 인애와 네 신혼 때의 사랑을 기억하노니 곧 씨 뿌리지 못하는 땅, 그 광야에서 나를 따랐음이니라 이스라엘은 여호와를 위한 성물 곧 그의 소산 중 첫 열매이니 그를 삼키는 자면 모두 벌을 받아 재앙이 그들에게 닥치리라 여호와의 말씀이니라.” — 예레미야 2:2,3 예레미야의 이 말은 시내 광야에서 불평하는 이스라엘 백성에 대해 매우 부정적인 태도를 가진 대부분의 기독교 신학자들에게 놀라운 것입니다. 여기에서 선지자 예레미야의 입을 통해 하나님의 성령은 광야에서의 이 40년의 기간이 이스라엘과 하나님 사이의 신혼 여행이었다고 말합니다. 이것은 기분 좋은 관계였습니다. 하나님께서는 한 민족으로서 이스라엘의 청년 시절의 인애를 기억하셨습니다. 이스라엘은 하나님께서 내신 첫 열매입니다. 누구든지 이스라엘을 삼키거나 하나님의 나라를 노엽게 하는 자는 재앙을 당할 것입니다. 제가 이스라엘의 역사와, 이스라엘을 무찌른 모든 대제국과 하나님의 백성을 바벨론으로 유배시킨 열방을 보면, 실제로 그들이 더 이상 나라로 존재하지 않고 고고학적 유적지로만 존재한다는 것을 알 수 있습니다. 그리고 그 유적지들마저도 시리아와 이라크에서 지난 ISIS와의 전쟁에서 파괴되었습니다. 이 40년 시내 광야 방황의 실제 모습은 사실 출애굽한 노예의 자녀들에게 학교, 또는 아마도 신병 훈련소와 같은 것이었습니다. 시내 광야에서 태어난 세대는 애굽에서의 종살이와 고생스러운 가혹한 대우를 전혀 알지 못하는 세대였습니다. 하나님께서는 자유한 상태로 태어나서 그들의 등을 때리는 채찍도 막대기도 알지 못하는 새로운 세대가 매일 신선한 만나를 먹고 광야에서 그들을 따르던 반석으로부터 물을 마시게 하셨어야 했습니다. 이 세대는 약속의 땅 가나안으로 들어가 아브라함과 이삭과 야곱에게 영원한 기업으로 약속된 이 땅을 정복하고 취하여 이스라엘의 집으로 삼을 준비가 된 민족이었습니다! 저는 종으로 출애굽한 이스라엘 세대와 가나안 땅으로 들어간 그들의 자녀들 사이에 유사점을 보는데요, 이스라엘은 자유인으로서 하나님께서 친히 그들에게 주신 것을 받을 준비가 되어 있습니다. 지금 이스라엘 땅의 대다수의 이스라엘 사람들은 디아스포라로 이스라엘 밖에서 태어났지만, 이 땅에서 태어나거나 자라 자부심과 특권을 가지고 이스라엘방위군에서 복무한 다음 세대는 주도권을 잡고 완전히 다른 방식으로 이스라엘 땅에서 이 나라를 이끌고 인도할 것입니다. 하나님과의 관계는 맑고 신선할 것입니다. 유럽의 빈민가와 모로코의 도시, 예멘 사나의 좁고 가난한 거리에서 수입된 것이 아닐 것입니다. 오늘날 이 나라의 대다수 정치인은 아직 이민자이거나 북아프리카나 폴란드, 프랑스나 영국, 브라질이나 아르헨티나 출신 이민자의 자녀입니다. 예슈아의 제자인 우리도 시내 광야에서 40년을 방황했던 그 세대로부터 배워야 하고, 먼저 소위 “메시아닉 유대인”을 포함하여 우리 유대 민족이 만들어져가고 있는 작품이라는 사실을 이해하며 서로에게 친절히 대하는 법을 배워야 합니다. 우리는 아직 고생스러운 디아스포라 학교를 졸업하지 않았습니다. 이스라엘에 있는 메시아닉 교회의 지도자들 대다수는 여전히 디아스포라의 변방에 놓여 있으며, 소위 "메시아닉 신앙"은 스페인, 포르투갈, 이탈리아, 프랑스, 런던 타워의 종교재판소 지하감옥과 나치 독일의 죽음의 수용소에서 수입된 통조림 버전입니다. 기독교 교단과 종파에서 빌린 신앙을 버리고, 무엇보다도 먼저 하나님의 말씀과, 이스라엘 현지 영적 문화와, 토라와 선지서와 우리가 신약이라고 부르는 사도들의 글로부터 우리의 믿음과 생활 방식을 회복하는 일을 하는 것이 우리의 책임입니다. 이것은 광야의 척박함에서 농업과 첨단 산업의 옥토로 회복되고 있는 이 땅에서 예슈아의 제자로서 우리가 직면한 매우 큰 도전입니다. 이스라엘 땅은, 유럽의 가짜 교회의 일부 반유대주의 교부들에게가 아니라 예슈아와 사도들에게 신실한, 순결하고 거룩한 믿음의 회복을 기다리고 있습니다. 이스라엘의 영적 회복에는, 모세나 이스라엘의 전능하신 분 우편에 앉아 계신 살아 계신 예슈아를 알지 못하는 마틴 루터나 존 칼빈, 웨슬리, 메노, 캠벨, 또는 다른 선의의 기독교인들을 위한 자리가 없습니다. “주 여호와 이스라엘의 거룩하신 이가 이같이 말씀하시되 너희가 돌이켜 조용히 있어야 구원을 얻을 것이요 잠잠하고 신뢰하여야 힘을 얻을 것이거늘 …” — 이사야 30:15 이어지는 구절은 부정적이지만 하나님의 초청을 받아들이고 그것을 긍정적으로 바꾸는 것은 우리 세대의 몫입니다!

저의 가장 중요한 친구이며 은사님 중 한 분이신 팀 터커 박사님께서 40년 이상 근위축성측색경화증(루게릭병)을 앓으신 끝에 2주 전에 돌아가셨습니다. 저명한 물리학자 스티븐 호킹 박사도 루게릭병이 있었고 40년 이상 버텼었습니다.
팀은 역사에 있어서는 천재였습니다. 고등학교 때부터 일리노이대학교에서 박사학위를 받을 때까지 터커 박사님은 하나나 두 개 학점에서만 “A”가 아닌 “B” 학점을 받았습니다. 터커 박사님은 마르시아와 저에게 아주 훌륭한 친구셨습니다. 사실 제가 마르시아와 데이트할 때 저희를 차에 태워 데려다 주신 분이셨습니다. 저희는 차가 없었기 때문에 저희 데이트 때마다 저희를 태워 데려다 주셨습니다. 저는 언제나 그분께 맞선을 주선했었는데, 잘 안 되었습니다.

The Jerusalem Prayer List – June 2, 2022
by Joseph Shulam We are starting this Shabbat three new things: 1. The reading of this Shabbat starts with with the first Torah portion of the book of Numbers. 2. It is the 50th day of the counting of the Omer, the sheaves. 3. Saturday evening starts the feast of Pentecost. We in Jerusalem, in the Shepherd of Israel (Netivyah) synagogue, will be reading this Shabbat June 4, 2022 (Hebrew date is Sivan 5, 5782), feast of Pentecost (Shavuot), the Torah portion of Bamidbar — Numbers 1:1-4:20. From the prophets we will read Hosea 2:1-23. From the New Testament the reading is from Romans 9:22-33; Luke 24:50,51; Acts 1:9-11. First, I want again to explain why the names of the Bible books are different in Hebrew from all the other languages. The reason is simple. In the Hebrew Torah books don’t have names. The first significant word in the division to books was the name that it was called. The only one book of the Torah that matches the name in Hebrew with the other languages is Genesis. The name of the book of Genesis has the same meaning in English and Greek and all the languages as the Hebrew — “Bereshit” (“in the beginning”). The book of Numbers is named with this name because the first four chapters actually deal with the results of the census that was commanded in the book of Exodus. Yes, the first four chapters actually give us the numbers of members of each tribe, and also later the number of men between the ages of 20 to 50. There are some interesting numerical discrepancies in the numbers that can be easily justified, but I am so happy that there are such discrepancies in the Torah. And I am so glad that even in the Ten Commandments there are differences between the version from Exodus 20 and that of Deuteronomy chapter 5. The reason that I am happy about these problems in the Holy Scriptures that are inspired by the Holy Spirit is that God has made it challenging. And He has forced us to think and to reason out these seemingly “serious problems.” When the Orthodox Jews who are fighting and persecuting the Jewish disciples of Yeshua in Israel bring up the discrepancies in numbers between the Torah and the New Testament, like Gary Cooper in High Noon, I draw my gun and shoot them down. Because the problem in the Torah and also between 1 Samuel and 2 Chronicles are much more serious. I believe that the Holy Spirit of God gave us the Bible inspired and true, but a part of the truth is the exposition of the sins of our forefathers — Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, Moses, King David and on and on and on to the apostles in the New Testament. As humans we are prone to create idols of anything and of all our heroes. We have this already in the New Testament itself: “And I, brethren, could not speak to you as to spiritual people but as to carnal, as to babes in Christ. I fed you with milk and not with solid food; for until now you were not able to receive it, and even now you are still not able; for you are still carnal. For where there are envy, strife, and divisions among you, are you not carnal and behaving like mere men? For when one says, ‘I am of Paul,’ and another, ‘I am of Apollos,’ are you not carnal?” — 1 Corinthians 3:1-4 Having the same problems in the Old Testament as in the New Testament actually is the work of the Holy Spirit to force us to think to calculate to reason out and rightly divide the Word of God. I realize that this position is not orthodox among religious people to have critical thinking, but when I see the Biblical texts and some of the complications and different versions of the same stories I get filled with excitement that opens new doors to understand God and how He works to challenge us and reveal Himself to us. He challenges us to understand the divine truth that can really and truly set us free from the shackles of religiosity and into the freedom of the Holy Spirit. Why was this numbering of all the children of Israel so necessary before they crossed the Jordan River into the Promised Land of Canaan as an everlasting possession for the children of Israel? The census had three purposes in the Torah: 1. The building of the Holy armies of the Lord of those men between the ages of 20 to 50. 2. The redemption of the firstborn of Israel by the numbers of the Levites. This number was to redeem the firstborn men of Israel with the number of the men of the tribe of Levi. 3. To divide the land of Canaan by the lots as it is said: by the mount of God. The size of the tribe demanded for equity sake the size of the territory that they would receive in the Promised Land of Canaan. One of the more interesting phenomena in this portion of the Torah from Numbers 1:1-4:20 is the names of the leaders of the tribes as they are called “presidents”. In the wilderness the names of the leaders of Israel have two major predicates: the divine names and the shepherding names of their professions. Here are some examples: “These are the names of the men who shall stand with you...” — Numbers 1:5 The Biblical text of the tribe and the name — The meaning of the name Reuben, Elizur the son of Shedeur — God is my rock, the Almighty my light Simeon, Shelumiel the son of Zurishaddai — My peace is God, my rock is the Almighty One Judah, Nahshon the son of Amminadab — Persistent, my people are gifted Issachar, Nethanel the son of Zuar — Gift of God, minority (small) Zebulun, Eliab the son of Helon — My God is a father, the son of strength, military Ephraim, Elishama the son of Ammihud — My God hears me, my nation is united Manasseh, Gamaliel the son of Pedahzur — God is gracious to me, redeemed by the Rock from Benjamin, Abidan the son of Gideoni — My father is the judge, the executioner Dan, Ahiezer the son of Ammishaddai — My brother is my help, my nation is mighty Asher, Pagiel the son of Ocran — My entreaty of God, defeater, subduer Gad, Eliasaph the son of Deuel — God has added to me, the Lord knows Naphtali, Ahira the son of Einan — My brother is a friend, one who sees What this list of the leaders of the tribes reveals to us is first of all that God played a very significant part in the consciences of the generation that is entering the land of Canaan. After 40 years of wandering in the Sinai Desert the Lord is playing a major part in the culture of the children of Israel. This is why the people give names to their children with the theophoric names of God. The second thing that we see is the importance of the family, the father, the brother, the nation. Normally when Christians think of the generation of the wilderness they have a negative attitude toward that generation. However, from the names of the leaders of the tribes we get a little different picture. We find an interesting text in Jeremiah chapter 2 that reveals a different relationship between God and Israel during those 40 years long period in the Sinai Desert: “Go and cry in the hearing of Jerusalem, saying, ‘Thus says the Lord: “I remember you, The kindness of your youth, The love of your betrothal, When you went after Me in the wilderness, In a land not sown. Israel was holiness to the Lord, The firstfruits of His increase. All that devour him will offend. Disaster will come upon them,” says the Lord.’” — Jeremiah 2:2,3 These words of Jeremiah are a surprise to most Christian theologians who have a very negative attitude toward the complaining Israelites in the Wilderness of Sinai. Here the Holy Spirit of God, from the mouth of Jeremiah the prophet, says that the period of these 40 years in the wilderness was the honeymoon between Israel and God. It was a pleasant relationship. God remembered the kindness of Israel’s youth as a nation. Israel is the firstfruits of God’s increase. Anyone that would devour Israel or offend God’s nation will be met with disaster. When I look at the history of Israel, and all those great empires and nations that defeated Israel, who sent God’s people to exile to Babylon, I see that actually they no longer exist as nations, only as archaeological sites. And even those have been destroyed during the last war against Isis in Syria and Iraq. The real picture of these 40 years of wandering in the Sinai Desert was actually a school, or maybe more like a boot camp, for the children of the slaves that left Egypt. The generation that was born in the Wilderness of Sinai was a generation that never knew the harsh treatment of enslavement and suffering in Egypt. God had to have a new generation that was born in freedom and never knew the whip or the wooden stick on their back, but ate every day fresh Manna and drank water from the Rock that followed them in the wilderness. This was the nation that was ready to enter the Promised Land of Canaan and conquer and take this land as an everlasting possession promised to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob as Israel’s home! I see a parallel between the generation of Israelites that left Egypt as slaves and their children that entered the Land of Canaan — Israel as free men ready to take what was given to them by God Himself. Now, in the land of Israel the majority of the Israelites are born outside of Israel in the diaspora, but the next generation that was born or raised here in this land and served in the IDF with pride and privilege is going to take the helm and lead and guide this nation in the land of Israel in a totally different way. The relationship with God will be clear and fresh. It will not be imported from the ghettos of Europe and the cities of Morocco and the narrow poor streets of Sanaa in Yemen. The majority of the politicians in this country today are still immigrants or children of immigrants from North Africa or Poland, France or England, Brazil or Argentina. As disciples of Yeshua we also need to learn from that generation that wandered 40 years in the Sinai Desert, and first learn to be kind to each other understanding that we, the Jewish people, including the so-called “Messianic Jews”, are a work in progress. We have not graduated yet from the diaspora school of hard knocks. The majority of the leaders of the Messianic congregations in Israel are still in some limbo of the diaspora, and the so-called “Messianic faith” is a canned version imported from the dungeons of the Inquisition in Spain, Portugal, Italy, France, and the tower of London and the death camps of Nazi Germany. It is our responsibility to leave the faith borrowed from the Christian denominations and sects, and work on restoration of our faith and lifestyle from God’s Word first of all and from the local spiritual culture of Israel and the Torah, the prophets, and the writings of the apostles in what we call the New Testament. It is a very big challenge that we face as disciples of Yeshua in this land that is being restored from wilderness to a garden of agriculture and hi-tech industry. The land of Israel is waiting for the restoration of pure and holy faith, with faithfulness to Yeshua and the apostles, and not to some antisemitic fathers of the fake churches of Europe. There is no room in the spiritual restoration of Israel for Martin Luther, or John Calvin, Wesley, Meno, Campbell, or other well-meaning Christians that know not Moses or the living Yeshua seated at the right hand of the Almighty One of Israel. “For thus says the Lord God, the Holy One of Israel: ‘In returning and rest you shall be saved; In quietness and confidence shall be your strength.’” — Isaiah 30:15 The continued verse is negative, but it is up to our generation to accept God’s invitation and turn it to positive!

One of my most important friends and teachers, Dr. Tim Tucker, died two weeks ago after more than 40 years of this terrible illness called “ALS”. Dr. Steven Hawking, the famous physicist, had ALS and also survived 40 years.
Tim was a genius in history. From high school until his PHD from the University of Illinois Dr. Tucker had only one or two grades that were “B” and not “A.” Dr. Tucker was a great friend to Marcia and I, and in fact he was our driver when I was dating Marcia. We didn’t have a car and Dr. Tucker volunteered to drive us on our dates. I always got him a blind date, but it didn’t work.
Finally, Dr. Tucker met in Jerusalem in our congregation a wonderful and beautiful (inside and outside) nurse from Finland, Maria… Maria went to Columbia Christian College in Portland to study, and Tim and Maria got married.
I know that Marcia and I will miss Dr. Tucker. Although Tim was very ill with the ALS – from time to time Tim would write and analyze the political situation in the USA and in Israel and the Middle East. Tim’s analysis was always brilliant and accurate and prophetic.
Please pray for Tim’s boys, Miika and Paavo, and their families. Marcia and I will miss Dr. Tim Tucker and his brilliant political analysis. We are glad that Tim lived long enough to see grandchildren from both of his sons’ families, and enjoyed a fruitful and successful family. The Lord bless the Tucker families and guide the young ones to walk on the narrow and straight path that leads to eternal life with the Lord and with all the saints.
Ilana Ahijervie, a dear sister who is 97 years old and suffering from memory problems.
Lea Korky, a dear sister who is 89 years old and served for many years as a nurse in the Sha’arei Zedek Hospital in Jerusalem.
Sarit, a sister born in Jerusalem, over 80 years old, lives alone. Has no close family, and suffers from several old age illnesses.
David Stern, a dear old brother and friend. Suffering from advanced stage of Parkinson’s.
Yehuda Hochman, a dear older brother living in the Negev desert with some illness that needs healing.
Marcia Shulam, my dear wife, who is suffering from severe diabetes and rheumatoid arthritis and now also from memory loss. Just yesterday she was diagnosed with dementia. Childhood-onset Diabetics are susceptible to memory problems. Marcia can’t be left alone, and I must stay home most of the days of the week, and if I leave the house someone has to come and stay with Marcia to make sure that she takes her insulin.
Please put Marcia Shulam and me, Joseph Shulam in your daily prayers. We trust in the Almighty God His mercy is sufficient for us, but prayer by honest and sincere brothers and sisters can surely wake up God’s mercy and at least stop the deterioration of Marcia’s memory.
Pray for Adam R., Adam works in Netivyah as the media director and he, like Yehuda and Daniel, has been raised in Netivyah congregation in the Galilee. Adam has lost much of his hearing as a result of a virus. Pray for Adam and his family of 8 children.
Pray for Adam’s father and mother, Barry and Dalia. They too have some health problems and challenges.
Pray for Miriam and for Hannah her daughter. Miriam is a dear sister and has lost her husband recently. Pray for Daniel S. and his children. Our dear leader in the Ro’eh Israel congregation, Gary, and his health, and for his wife Melanie and their family.
Pray for Um Mahmud Abu-Eid and Jimmy Abu-Eid and all of the family. This is a dear family of old friends that needs healing and wisdom for the children and for their work.
Lift for blessing and healing Jonathan B. and his wife Aviva and their new baby, his mother and his brother Daniel. Pray for these very important men of God: Rabbi Salt, and his family, and Rabbi Hasselblad. They are both older and need protection and blessings.

Pray for our dear sister Celestine in London. She is a widow working hard and faithfully supporting Netivyah ministry for so many years. Our dear sister Celestine from London is visiting Israel and it was a pleasure to see here in Jerusalem. We pray for the Lord to be her comfort and provide sister Celestine all her physical and her spiritual and her social needs with His grace.
Pray for our dear brother Daniel B. and his dear wife that the Lord will bless them and protect them. They live now in Wales. May the Lord watch over them.
