오늘은 홀로코스트 기념일입니다. 여기를 클릭하여 제가 성경적으로 이스라엘의 기념일들에 대해 설명한 것을 보시기 바랍니다.
이번 안식일 토라 포션은 아하레이 모트(“아론의 아들들이 죽은 후에”), 레위기 16:1~18:30입니다. 선지서에서는(하프타라) 아모스 9:7-15, 신약성경에서는 히브리서 9:11-28를 읽을 것입니다. 토라와, 선지서와, 신약성경에서 읽는 말씀들은 모두 매우 중요합니다. 토라 포션은 아론의 두 아들들의 죽음을 언급하면서 시작합니다. 아론은 성막으로 다가가 자유롭게 그냥 안으로 들어가는 것에 대해 하나님의 제한을 받고 있습니다. “여호와께서 모세에게 이르시되 네 형 아론에게 이르라 성소의 휘장 안 법궤 위 속죄소 앞에 아무 때나 들어오지 말라 그리하여 죽지 않도록 하라 이는 내가 구름 가운데에서 속죄소 위에 나타남이니라.” – 레위기 16:2 여기에서 무슨 일이 일어나고 있는 것일까요? 아론의 첫째, 둘째 아들들은 제단에 다른 불을 가져온 것 때문에 주님의 손에 의해 급사했습니다. 이 이야기의 맥락에서 나답과 아비후가 죽은 이유가 그들이 주님의 성막에서 섬기기 전에 포도주를 마셨기 때문이라는 것을 이해할 수 있습니다. 그들은 잘 훈련된 이 제사장들, 모세의 형 아론의 아들들이 그들이 마신 포도주 때문에 부주의하여 제단에 다른 불을 가져왔음을 이해했습니다. 그들의 아버지일 뿐만 아니라 이스라엘의 대제사장이기도 한 아론은 그의 아들들에게 주님의 일을 더 진지하게 받아들이도록 인식시키지 못한(그들을 잘 교육시키지 못한) 책임을 하다못해 제한적으로라도 져야 할 것입니다. 지금 주님께서는 회막에서 주님을 섬기러 나아갈 수 있는 아론의 자유와 접근을 제한하십니다. 이 점에는 우리 현대의 인류평등주의 세계에 사는 우리에게 공정해 보이지 않는 것이 있습니다. 하나님께서는 왜 아론과, 이스라엘의 대제사장으로서 섬기는 그의 일에 제한을 두셔야 했을까요? 글쎄요, 제가 이것으로부터 배운 것은 아버지들과, 일반적으로 가족은 그들의 자녀가 무엇을 어떻게 처신하는지에 대해, 그리고 그들이 죄를 짓는 경우에 어느 정도 제한적으로라도 책임이 있다는 것입니다. 그렇습니다, 토라에는 이런 구절이 있습니다: “인자를 천대까지 베풀며 악과 과실과 죄를 용서하리라 그러나 벌을 면제하지는 아니하고 아버지의 악행을 자손 삼사 대까지 보응하리라.” – 출애굽기 34:7 “여호와는 노하기를 더디하시고 인자가 많아 죄악과 허물을 사하시나 형벌 받을 자는 결단코 사하지 아니하시고 아버지의 죄악을 자식에게 갚아 삼사대까지 이르게 하리라 하셨나이다.” – 민수기 14:18 하나님께서는 수백 년 후에 생각을 바꾸어, 아버지의 죄악을 자손 삼사 대까지 보응한다는 원칙을 그치신다고 선포하십니다. 다음은 하나님께서 이 원칙이 더 이상 실천되지 않을 것이라고 말씀하신 첫 번째 경우입니다: “그 때에 그들이 말하기를 다시는 아버지가 신 포도를 먹었으므로 아들들의 이가 시다 하지 아니하겠고 신 포도를 먹는 자마다 그의 이가 신 것 같이 누구나 자기의 죄악으로 말미암아 죽으리라.” – 예레미야 31:29,30 이러한 변화에 대해 훨씬 더 정교한 구절은 에스겔 18장에 있습니다. 이 장 전부가 모세의 율법의 이러한 큰 변화를 다루고 있습니다. 제가 여기서 보는 원칙은 두 가지입니다. 첫 번째는 아버지들은 자기 자녀의 행위에 대해 어느 정도 책임을 나눠져야 한다는 것입니다. 그렇습니다, 그 책임은 직접적이지 않습니다. 특히 자녀가 장성하여 이미 출가했고 자기의 삶과 직업을 꾸려나갈 때는 더 그렇습니다. 그러나 잠언에서 말하고 있는 원칙은 이렇습니다: “마땅히 행할 길을 아이에게 가르치라 그리하면 늙어도 그것을 떠나지 아니하리라.” – 잠언 22:6 이 원칙은, 제 생각에, 아버지와 심지어 어머니에게도 그들의 자녀의 행위의 결과에 대해 어느 정도 제한적인 책임을 두고 있습니다. 그렇습니다, 이것은 징벌적 책임이 아니라, 부모에게 ‘네 자녀가 올바르고 선한 시민이 되기를 원한다면, 그것이 네 자녀에게도 좋고 가족인 네게도 좋은 일이니, 네가 투자하고 씨 뿌린 것을 또 거두게 된다는 것을 기억하는 것이 좋을 것’이라고 말하는 선험적 빨간 불입니다! 두 번째는 자녀 양육은 자녀의 미래에 있어서도, 부모의 책임에 있어서도 대단한 도전이라는 것입니다. 이번 토라 포션 중 레위기 16장의 나머지는 우리에게 속죄일, 히브리어로 “욤 키푸르”의 전체 의례를 보여줍니다. 성전도, 대제사장도, 동물제사나 “희생양”을 유대광야로 내보내는 의식도 없는 우리 시대에도 속죄일은 여전히 모든 유대인 공동체에서, 특히 예루살렘에서 일 년 중 가장 엄숙한 날입니다. 보고에 따르면 이스라엘 유대인 인구 70% 이상이 실제로 25시간 동안 먹지도 마시지도 않고 금식을 하고, 이스라엘 유대인 인구 50% 이상이 실제로 일정 시간 회당을 방문합니다. 저는 하나님을 믿지 않았던 저희 어머니와, 역시 하나님을 믿지 않았던 저희 아버지가 속죄일을 맞아 어떤 특별한 준비를 했던 것을 기억합니다. 그렇습니다, 두 분은 먹지도 마시지도 않는 금식을 하시지는 않았지만, 식사를 보통 먹는 대로 준비하시지도 않았습니다. 레위기 17장에서 우리는 후에, 유대의 후기 왕들 시대에 변하게 된 또 다른 하나님의 법을 볼 수 있습니다. 그 변하는 원칙은 신명기에 나옵니다. 레위기 17장에는 음식으로 도살되는 동물, 황소나 암소나 염소나 양은 모두 현지 제사장이 의례적으로 신성한 방식으로 도살해야 한다는 아주 분명하고 아주 진지한 명령이 있습니다. 그리고 그 고기의 한 부분은 제사장에게, 그리고 제단에 드려야 합니다. 요시아 왕 시절에 신명기를 발견한 후에 사람들은 동물을 음식으로 도살할 수 있었는데요, 제사장만 그런 것은 아니었습니다: “그러나 네 하나님 여호와께서 네게 주신 복을 따라 각 성에서 네 마음에 원하는 대로 가축을 잡아 그 고기를 먹을 수 있나니 곧 정한 자나 부정한 자를 막론하고 노루나 사슴을 먹는 것 같이 먹으려니와 … 네 하나님 여호와께서 네게 허락하신 대로 네 지경을 넓히신 후에 네 마음에 고기를 먹고자 하여 이르기를 내가 고기를 먹으리라 하면 네가 언제나 마음에 원하는 만큼 고기를 먹을 수 있으리니” – 신명기 12:15,20 우리는 이것에서 아주 중요한 교훈을 배웁니다: 하나님께서는 시내산에서 온 이스라엘 앞에서 모세에게 토라를 주셨습니다. 하나님께서는, 아버지의 죄 때문에 고생해야만 하는 자녀들의 경우에서처럼, 토라와 명령(계명)을 바꾸실 수도 있고 실제로 그렇게 하셨습니다. 저는 성경을 믿는 모든 이들이 하나님의 말씀은 하나님의 말씀이라는 것을 알고 깨닫는 것이 중요하다고 믿습니다. 그분께서는 우리에게 그것을 바꾸거나 덧붙일 권리를 결코 주시지 않으셨습니다! 그러나 이스라엘의 전능하신 하나님이신 그분께서는 필요와 때에 따라 그분의 토라를 바꾸고 수정할 권리를 가지고 계십니다. 제가 “필요에 따라”라고 말한 것의 고전적인 사례는 슬로브핫의 딸들의 경우입니다: “요셉의 아들 므낫세 종족들에게 므낫세의 현손 마길의 증손 길르앗의 손자 헤벨의 아들 슬로브핫의 딸들이 찾아왔으니 그의 딸들의 이름은 말라와 노아와 호글라와 밀가와 디르사라 그들이 회막 문에서 모세와 제사장 엘르아살과 지휘관들과 온 회중 앞에 서서 이르되 우리 아버지가 광야에서 죽었으나 여호와를 거슬러 모인 고라의 무리에 들지 아니하고 자기 죄로 죽었고 아들이 없나이다.” – 민수기 27:1-3 이들 슬로브핫의 딸들의 불만을 들은 후, 모세는 그 사례를 주님 앞으로 가져갔고, 주님께서는 상속과 관련하여 토라를 바꾸시어 남자와 여자 사이에 명분을 내시고 동등함을 정립하셨습니다. 그렇습니다, 그렇게 하나님께서는 그분의 공평과 공의와 그저 보통의 공정의 기준에 따라 토라를 바꾸실 수 있으시고 실제로 바꾸십니다. 하나님께서 모세를 통해 문제점을 들으시고 토라와 관습을 바꾸신 것을 보여주는 본문입니다: “모세가 그 사연을 여호와께 아뢰니라 여호와께서 모세에게 말씀하여 이르시되 슬로브핫 딸들의 말이 옳으니 너는 반드시 그들의 아버지의 형제 중에서 그들에게 기업을 주어 받게 하되 그들의 아버지의 기업을 그들에게 돌릴지니라.” – 민수기 27:5-7 저는 우리 모두가 주님의 참된 은혜와 그분의 자녀인 우리를 향한 그분의 관심과 배려의 크기를 인식하는 것이 극히 중요한 점이라고 생각합니다. 토라는 주님을 보여주는 살아서 숨쉬는 계시이며, 더 이상 돌에 새겨져 있지 않고 우리 마음에 새겨져 있습니다(예레미야 31:31-37 참조). 하나님의 마음은 토라와, 궁극적으로 예슈아의 삶과 죽음과 부활에서 드러났습니다! 우리 하나님은 얼마나 멋지고 살아계신 분이신지요! 그분의 인간 자녀인 우리를 위해 이 지구를 창조하시고, 우리를 이곳에 두시어 그분의 존전과, 우리 구주이시며 하나님의 친 아들이시고 이 푸른 지구 창조의 동역자이신 예슈아의 존전에서 영원히 살도록 준비시키시는 분이십니다! “옛적에 선지자들을 통하여 여러 부분과 여러 모양으로 우리 조상들에게 말씀하신 하나님이 이 모든 날 마지막에는 아들을 통하여 우리에게 말씀하셨으니 이 아들을 만유의 상속자로 세우시고 또 그로 말미암아 모든 세계를 지으셨느니라 이는 하나님의 영광의 광채시요 그 본체의 형상이시라 그의 능력의 말씀으로 만물을 붙드시며 죄를 정결하게 하는 일을 하시고 높은 곳에 계신 지극히 크신 이의 우편에 앉으셨느니라.” – 히브리서 1:1-3 아모스 9:7-15에서 읽는 본문 역시 히브리어 성경 중에서 가장 아름다운 구절 중 하나입니다. 이것은 하나님의 보편성, 전적으로 이스라엘만을 위해서가 아닌 온 세상에 대한 그분의 보살핌과 관심과 다스림을 드러내는 말씀입니다. 사실, 사도행전 15장에서 야고보는 아모스의 이 말씀을 사용하여 우리에게 하나님께서는 언제나 모든 민족에 관심을 가지고 계셨으며, 온 세상에 있는 그분의 인간 자녀에게 결코 소홀하지 않으셨다고 말합니다. 아모스 선지자의 책의 이 짧은 말씀을 읽고 묵상해 보십시오. 여러분에게 좋은 성경 주석이 있다면 이 본문과 관련된 부분도 읽어보십시오: “여호와의 말씀이니라 이스라엘 자손들아 너희는 내게 구스 족속 같지 아니하냐 내가 이스라엘을 애굽 땅에서, 블레셋 사람을 갑돌에서, 아람 사람을 기르에서 올라오게 하지 아니하였느냐 보라 주 여호와의 눈이 범죄한 나라를 주목하노니 내가 그것을 지면에서 멸하리라 그러나 야곱의 집은 온전히 멸하지는 아니하리라 여호와의 말씀이니라 보라 내가 명령하여 이스라엘 족속을 만국 중에서 체질하기를 체로 체질함 같이 하려니와 그 한 알갱이도 땅에 떨어지지 아니하리라 내 백성 중에서 말하기를 화가 우리에게 미치지 아니하며 이르지 아니하리라 하는 모든 죄인은 칼에 죽으리라 그 날에 내가 다윗의 무너진 장막을 일으키고 그것들의 틈을 막으며 그 허물어진 것을 일으켜서 옛적과 같이 세우고 그들이 에돔의 남은 자와 내 이름으로 일컫는 만국을 기업으로 얻게 하리라 이 일을 행하시는 여호와의 말씀이니라 여호와의 말씀이니라 보라 날이 이를지라 그 때에 파종하는 자가 곡식 추수하는 자의 뒤를 이으며 포도를 밟는 자가 씨 뿌리는 자의 뒤를 이으며 산들은 단 포도주를 흘리며 작은 산들은 녹으리라 내가 내 백성 이스라엘이 사로잡힌 것을 돌이키리니 그들이 황폐한 성읍을 건축하여 거주하며 포도원들을 가꾸고 그 포도주를 마시며 과원들을 만들고 그 열매를 먹으리라 내가 그들을 그들의 땅에 심으리니 그들이 내가 준 땅에서 다시 뽑히지 아니하리라 네 하나님 여호와의 말씀이니라.” – 아모스 9:7-15 우리 모두는 “아멘”이라고 말해야 할 것입니다! 이스라엘을 세계 지도에 놓으신 이 중요한 말씀을 읽은 후에는, 하나님께서 유대인인 우리를 그분의 자랑거리 소유(히브리어로 “암 세굴라”)가 되도록 선택하셨기에, 종종 우리에게 영적 덫이 되기도 하며 우리에게 그릇된 자부심을 주는 배타심과 그릇된 보장을 깨게 됩니다. 아모스 선지자의 이 말씀은 우리를 다시 바른 관점으로 되돌려놓습니다. 하나님께서는 온 지구의 하나님이시며, 온 세상을 사랑하시고, 그분의 은혜와 사랑의 우산 아래 있는 온 세상과 온 인류를 위해 예슈아를 보내셨습니다!
이스라엘 정부는 분열하고 있고 몇 달 안에 또 다시 총선거를 할 가능성이 있습니다. 우익과 좌익 사이의 분열과 미움이 너무 강하고 너무 지독하여, 하나님께서 기적적으로 개입하지 않으시면, 이스라엘은 하나님의 약속 성취를 위태롭게 할 정도로 심각한 정치적 재앙에 빠질 것입니다. 저희는 긴급히 여러분의 기도가 필요합니다.
주님께서 이스라엘 정부에, 모두 4월에 있는 유대인들의 유월절, 기독교인들의 부활절, 무슬림의 라마단 직전에 다시금 이스라엘을 찾아온 테러 물결에 대처하여 멈추게 할 지혜와 방법으로 축복해 주시도록 기도해 주십시오.
저희 정부 정치인들 가운데 연합이 있도록 기도해 주십시오. 저희는 너무도 많은 선거를 치른 끝에 결국 게와 펠리칸과 돌고래로 이루어진 연립정부를 구성했기 때문입니다. 이스라엘의 연립정부는 유대인과 아랍인이 섞여 함께 일하고자 하지만, 그들은 이들 정치인들에게 함께 계속할 수 있는 지혜와 명철을 주시기를 기도하는 기독교인들의 기도가 필요합니다.

우크라이나와 유럽과 러시아와 미국을 위해 계속 기도해 주시기 바랍니다. 세계대전의 위험은 끝나지 않았습니다. 오히려 세계대전의 가능성만 커지고 있으며 그 위험은 너무나 의미심장하여 다음 번 세계대전은 아마겟돈전쟁일 수 있습니다.
이 세상의 끝이 언제 올지, 예슈아께서 언제 예루살렘 올리브산(감람산)에 강림하시어 모세부터 말라기까지 이스라엘 선지자들의 글과 요한계시록 끝부분의 장들에 묘사된 것과 같은 진짜 실질적이고 긍정적인 신세계질서를 시작하실지 아무도 모릅니다.

The Jerusalem Prayer List – April 28, 2022

The reading of the the Torah this next Shabbat will be Acharei Mot (“after the death of Aaron’s sons”), Leviticus 16:1 - 18:30. From the prophets (the Haftarah) we will read from Amos 9:7-15, and from Hebrews we will read from Hebrews 9:11-28.
These readings from the Torah, the prophets and from the New Testament are all very important. The Torah reading starts with the mention of the death of Aaron’s two sons. Aaron is being limited by God in his approach and personal freedom to just enter into the holy Tabernacle. God says to Moses: “Tell Aaron your brother not to come at just any time into the Holy Place inside the veil, before the mercy seat which is on the ark, lest he die; for I will appear in the cloud above the mercy seat.” – Leviticus 16:2 What is going on here? Aaron’s two older sons died a hurried death by the hand of the Lord for bringing strange fire to the altar. From the context of the story it is understood by the rabbinical commentators that the reason why Nadab and Abihu died is that they had drank wine before their service in the holy Tabernacle of the Lord. They understood that these well-trained priests – sons of Aaron, the brother of Moses – were not careful and brought strange fire to the altar because of the wine that they drank. Aaron, as their father but also as the chief priest of Israel, should have at least limited responsibility for not having impressed upon his sons (educated them better) to take the work of the Lord more seriously. Now, the Lord has limited Aaron’s own freedom and access to the service of the Lord in the Tabernacle of Meeting. There is something in this that to us in our modern egalitarian world seems not fair. Why should God put a limitation on Aaron and his service as the high priest of Israel? Well, what I learn from this is that fathers, and family in general, have some limited responsibility for what and how their children behave, and if they sin. Yes, we do have in the Torah these phrases: “…keeping mercy for thousands, forgiving iniquity and transgression and sin, by no means clearing the guilty, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children and the children’s children to the third and the fourth generation.” – Exodus 34:7 [NKJV] “The Lord is longsuffering and abundant in mercy, forgiving iniquity and transgression; but He by no means clears the guilty, visiting the iniquity of the fathers on the children to the third and fourth generation.’” – Numbers 14:18 [NKJV] God does change His mind some hundreds of years later, and proclaims that the principle of visiting the iniquity of the fathers on the children to the third and fourth generation is stopping. Here is the first time that God says that this principle will no longer be practiced: “In those days they shall say no more: ‘The fathers have eaten sour grapes, And the children’s teeth are set on edge.’ But every one shall die for his own iniquity; every man who eats the sour grapes, his teeth shall be set on edge.” – Jeremiah 31:29,30 [NKJV] A much more elaborate text on this change is in Ezekiel chapter 18. The whole chapter deals with this major change in the Law of Moses. There are two principles that I see here. The first is that Fathers ought to share some responsibility for the acts of their children. Yes, that responsibility is not direct, especially when the children have grown up and have already left home and have developed their own lives and occupations. But, the principle stated by the book of Proverbs: “Train up a child in the way he should go, And when he is old he will not depart from it.” – Proverbs 22:6 [NKJV] This principle does, in my opinion, put some limited responsibility on the father and even the mother for the outcome of their children. Yes, it is not a punitive responsibility, but it is an a priori red light that says to parents if you want your children to become upright and good citizens, which is good for your children but also good for you as a family, than you better remember that what you invest and sow you also reap! The second point that is that parenting is a great challenge, not only for the children’s future, but also for the parental responsibility. The rest of this Torah portion in chapter 16 of Leviticus reveals to us the whole ceremony of the Day of Atonement, “Yom HaKippurim” in Hebrew. Even in our own days, where we don’t have a temple, and we don’t have a high priest, and we don’t sacrifice animals or send the “scapegoat” out into the Judaean desert to die, the Day of Atonement is still the most solemn day of the year in every Jewish community. Especially in Jerusalem. The report is that over 70% of the Jewish population of Israel actually fasts 25 hours without food or drink and over 50% of Israel’s Jewish population actually visits the synagogues for a period of time. I remember my mother, who didn’t believe in God, and my father, who also didn’t believe in God, making some special preparations for the Day of Atonement. Yes, they didn’t fast from food and drink, but they didn’t make regular meals either. In chapter 17 of Leviticus we see another law of God that is changed later on in the days of the late kings of Judea. The change is reflected in the book of Deuteronomy. In Leviticus 17 we have the very clear and very serious command that any animal – a bull, a cow, a goat, or a sheep – that is slaughtered for food must be slaughtered by the local priest in a ceremonial, sanctified fashion. And a portion of the meat is given to the priest and for the altar. After the finding of the book of Deuteronomy in the days of King Josiah, people can kill an animal for food, and not only the priests: “However, you may slaughter and eat meat within all your gates, whatever your heart desires, according to the blessing of the Lord your God which He has given you; the unclean and the clean may eat of it, of the gazelle and the deer alike… When the Lord your God enlarges your border as He has promised you, and you say, ‘Let me eat meat,’ because you long to eat meat, you may eat as much meat as your heart desires.” – Deuteronomy 12:15,20 [NKJV] We learn from this several very important lessons: God gave the Torah to Moses in Mount Sinai in front of all of Israel. God can and does change the Torah and the instructions (commandments), like in the case of the children having to suffer because of sins of the fathers. I believe that this is important for all Bible believers to know and realize, the Word of God is God’s Word. He never gave us the right to change it or add to it! However He, the Almighty God of Israel, has preserved His right to change and modify His Torah according to the need and time. When I say according to the need, the classic case is with the daughters of Zelophehad: “Then came the daughters of Zelophehad the son of Hepher, the son of Gilead, the son of Machir, the son of Manasseh, from the families of Manasseh the son of Joseph; and these were the names of his daughters: Mahlah, Noah, Hoglah, Milcah, and Tirzah. And they stood before Moses, before Eleazar the priest, and before the leaders and all the congregation, by the doorway of the tabernacle of meeting, saying: ‘Our father died in the wilderness; but he was not in the company of those who gathered together against the Lord, in company with Korah, but he died in his own sin; and he had no sons.’” – Numbers 27:1-3 [NKJV] After hearing the complaint of these daughters of Zelophehad, Moses took up the case before the Lord and the Lord changed the Torah to make justice and establish equality in relationship to inheritance between man and woman. So, yes, God can and does change the Torah according to His standards of justice, righteousness, and just plain fairness. Here is the text that shows that God heard through Moses the problem and changed the Torah and the custom: “So Moses brought their case before the Lord. And the Lord spoke to Moses, saying: ‘The daughters of Zelophehad speak what is right; you shall surely give them a possession of inheritance among their father’s brothers, and cause the inheritance of their father to pass to them.’” – Numbers 27:5-7 [NKJV] I think that this is an extremely important point for all of us to understand and appreciate the true grace of the Lord and the greatness of His concern and consideration for us His children. The Torah is a living and breathing revelation of the Lord and it is no longer written on stone, but written on our hearts (see Jeremiah 31:31-37). The heart of God is revealed in the Torah and ultimately in life, death, and resurrection of Yeshua! What a wonderful and living God we have who created this Earth for us, His human children, and placed us here as a preparation for eternity in His presence and in the presence of Yeshua our Savior and God’s own Son, and partner in the creation of this blue ball called Earth! “God, who at various times and in various ways spoke in time past to the fathers by the prophets, has in these last days spoken to us by His Son, whom He has appointed heir of all things, through whom also He made the worlds; who being the brightness of His glory and the express image of His person, and upholding all things by the word of His power, when He had by Himself purged our sins, sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high…” – Hebrews 1:1-3 [NKJV] The reading from Amos chapter 9:7-15 is also one of the most beautiful texts in the Hebrew Bible. It is a text that reveals God’s universality and His care and concern and control over the world, and not exclusively for Israel. In fact Jacob (James), in Acts 15, uses this text from Amos to tell us that God has always been concern for all the nations and has never neglected His human children the whole world over. Read this short portion from the prophet Amos and meditate on it. If you have a good commentary of the Bible read it in relationship to this text: “‘Are you not like the people of Ethiopia to Me, O children of Israel?’ says the Lord. ‘Did I not bring up Israel from the land of Egypt, The Philistines from Caphtor, And the Syrians from Kir? Behold, the eyes of the Lord God are on the sinful kingdom, And I will destroy it from the face of the earth; Yet I will not utterly destroy the house of Jacob,’ Says the Lord. ‘For surely I will command, And will sift the house of Israel among all nations, As grain is sifted in a sieve; Yet not the smallest grain shall fall to the ground. All the sinners of My people shall die by the sword, Who say, “The calamity shall not overtake nor confront us.” On that day I will raise up The tabernacle of David, which has fallen down, And repair its damages; I will raise up its ruins, And rebuild it as in the days of old; That they may possess the remnant of Edom, And all the Gentiles who are called by My name,’ Says the Lord who does this thing. ‘Behold, the days are coming,’ says the Lord, ‘When the plowman shall overtake the reaper, And the treader of grapes him who sows seed; The mountains shall drip with sweet wine, And all the hills shall flow with it. I will bring back the captives of My people Israel; They shall build the waste cities and inhabit them; They shall plant vineyards and drink wine from them; They shall also make gardens and eat fruit from them. I will plant them in their land, And no longer shall they be pulled up From the land I have given them,’ Says the Lord your God.” – Amos 9:7-15 We all ought to say Amen! After reading this important text that put Israel on the map of the world, and breaks the false security and feeling of exclusivity that often times because a spiritual trap to us as Jews and gives us a false pride for God who has chosen us to be His pride possession (“am segula” in Hebrew). These words of the prophet Amos put us back in perspective. God is the God of all the Earth and He loves the whole world, and sent Yeshua for the whole world and all of humanity, under His umbrella of grace and love!
The government of Israel is falling apart and there is possibility that in a few months we will have another general election. The division and hate between the right wing and the left wing is so strong and so poisonous that if God doesn’t intervene miraculously, Israel will be in such deep political disaster that will endanger the future fulfillments of God’s promises. We need your prayers urgently.
Pray for the Lord to bless the Israeli government with wisdom and ways to deal and stop this wave of terrorism that again is visiting Israel, just before the Passover for the Jews, and Easter for the Christians, and Ramadan for the Muslims, that all come together in the month of April.
Pray for unity among our government politicians. Because we have had so many elections, and finally built a coalition government made of a crab, a pelican, and a dolphin. The coalition government of Israel is a mixture of Jews and Arabs that are trying to work together, but they need prayer from Christians to give these politicians the wisdom and understanding to keep it together.
Pray for us in Netivyah and the Roeh Israel Congregation, our sister congregations in Finland and Brazil, and brothers and sisters around the world.
Please continue to pray for Ukraine and for Europe and Russia and the USA. The danger for a world war is not over. On the contrary, the possibilities of a major world war are only increasing and the danger is so significant that in the next world war it might be Armageddon.
No one knows when the end of the world will come and when Yeshua will descend on Mount of Olives in Jerusalem to start the true and real and positive New World Order as it is described in the prophets of Israel, from Moses to Malachi, and in the last chapters of the book of Revelation.
Please pray for Marcia and I, and for Keijo and Salme – we are old leaders with health issues. God alone can heal us and give us strength. We need your prayers. We are getting older, and our bodies are not what they used to be, and we need healing and strength from the Lord to continue and do the Lord’s work.
I would like to thank the leadership of the Shepherd of Israel sister congregation in Helsinki (Espoo), Finland for organizing and executing a wonderful international seminar for Passover on April 16-17th. There were participants from 41 different countries and translation into seven languages in a seminar that lasted the good part of two days, with four 90-minute sessions of teaching by the Netivyah Jerusalem staff, and another hour of Q and A.
The work and the dedication of these dear brothers and sisters in Finland and around the world is super commendable. Thank you dear brothers and sisters in Finland for your longstanding partnership with Netivyah and Israel.
Please pray for the people listed on this prayer list. They are all dear brothers and sisters from around the world that pray and stand with Israel and with us at Netivyah.
Please keep praying for Marcia my wife and for me. We are both going through some medical tests to find out what is wrong with our health. We need your prayers and God’s help and grace.
Pray for the situation of our older sisters who are true heroes in the service of the Lord: Leah, and Ilana, Sarit, and Yudit, Nancy H., and brother David Stern, and Yaacov Damkani.
I ask you specially to pray for Marcia my wife! Marcia needs the Lord’s help with her memory and with her diabetic, and rheumatoid arthritis. I have to stay home most of the time and take care of Marcia until we find someone that can help with this need.
I hope to work on the paperwork that is necessary for such a visa from the Israeli government. I need your prayers for strength and healing of back problems and pain in my left leg that is making it hard for me to walk.
Please consider as a church or as individuals to add something extra for the elderly saints of Jerusalem.

I also received a request to pray for a young brother, Raymond Jimenez, who has the Coronavirus and needs God’s blessing for recovering and returning back to his normal life.
We have a dear sister in Brazil, Fernanda, who is having difficult time with her co-workers, and she has asked for us to pray for her and her co-workers to stop persecuting her. Lift Fernanda in your prayers.
A very dear sister, who is a Korean living in Mexico and doing international ministry, Sarah Lee, is doing much better and is going out of the hospital back to Mexico soon. Please continue to pray for Sarah Lee. Sarah is one of the most unusual servants of God, and she has a special place in our hearts for her special ways and very honest and direct way of doing things for God and His kingdom, and for the Israeli community of disciples of Yeshua.
We received a prayer request from a dear sister, Livia Schnell Nothen, who has been with us in Portugal and has stood with our brothers in Brazil and with us on the issue of the Anussim.
Please keep brother Philip Marc in your prayers. Philip is a young man with very serious cancer. He is a truth seeker and a faithful disciple of Yeshua who loves God and who is a lover of Israel. Philip lives far from Israel in a country that we can’t travel to, but Philip's heart is with us, and with God’s people.
Pray for Paulo C. Pereira Braga Dias. He is the father of a dear sister in Brazil.
The situation in Israel is getting better and many of the restrictions have been lifted. Tourists are coming, and that is a big blessing to all of Israel, and especially to many of our brothers and sisters who work as tour guides.
1. Please keep doing intercessory prayer for the whole world, concentrate on your country, but do not forget Israel.
2. There is a blessing from God to those who pray for other brothers and sisters and intercede through the Holy Spirit for the body of the Messiah.
3. It might seem like a small thing for us to pray a few minutes for brothers and sisters around the world, but in the kingdom and in the Heavens, attention is paid by the authorities of goodness to the caring and sincere intercessory prayer that conforms and confirms that the body of the Messiah Yeshua is truly one body.
4. Pray for those who have prayed so faithfully for the salvation of Israel and the peace in Israel. If you are not praying for the salvation of Israel, please start now. This prayer is sure to be answered by the Lord because He promised that, “all of Israel shall be saved!”
Please pray for Gary, our daughter-in-law Beth Shulam’s father. Pray for Danah our daughter, she needs much prayer for her situation and so does our granddaughter Noaam. Please lift Danah and Noaam in your prayers. Please lift Barry our son and his family, Beth, and Joey our grandson.
I am adding a new prayer request from a leader of God’s people in India, Joy Mathew, and Pastor Isaac from the city of Chennai. Please do not forget to lift up in prayer the young man Paulo and the Amaral family, in Brazil.
Please keep in your prayers our dear brother Pastor TJ in Taiwan. TJ’s mother has some very serious problems and TJ is now in California for his mother and father.
Keep Ruby Little in your prayers, our dear sister from Oklahoma City. Ruby went through a new set of tests for her cancer and the tests returned with not such a good news. Ruby is in need of our prayers. Ruby needs a miracle and strength and courage to deal with this challenge in the best way that will give her a better quality of life than chemotherapy, for divine intervention, a miracle of healing.

Please pray for the family of brother Joseph Kelber and especially for his son.

Pray for Deborah from London, and our dear sister Celestine King, and Reuben and Chile, also in London. Don’t forget to keep praying for David Kim’s wife – Jingyung Lee. Pray for Dr. Yuizawa, Tiz H., Lion H., Ilana Abramov, David Stern and his family, and Anne West who is now over 100 years old.
Remember the following brothers and sisters from the Roeh Israel Congregation in Jerusalem: Sarit, Gabriela, Leah, Ilana, Hannah, young Gabriela, Zvi D. and Bathsheba. Keep praying for Gary and Melanie, and their family in the USA. Jonathan B. and his wife Aviva and their baby need our prayers. Sister Yoko Nagumo in Japan and her family need our prayers.
In Hong Kong we have dear brothers and sisters for whom we should pray for a restoration and revival of their health and their lives: T. Tam and his family, the leadership and members of the 611 Church, and the other churches who love God and love Israel in that great city.
Please say a word of prayer and ask God’s grace for dear friends and brothers in Jerusalem, Um Mahmud Abu-Eid, and Jimmy Abu-Eid and his family.
Please especially pray for my teacher and very dear brother Dr. Tim Tucker. He has been ill with ALS (Lou Gehrig,ד disease) and now Dr. Tim Tucker has been discovered with advanced cancer. He is in Finland and in ICU in the hospital.
Pray for Miika and Paavo Tim’s children and their families.
Please keep praying for our other brothers and sisters in Finland who need prayer and healing, and protection and guidance: Satu-Maria, Sinni Tuuli, Evelina, and Eva H., Patty, Andrea, and Sirpa and Aaron Tani, and for Hillel and his wife. Especially pray for Keijo and Salme our dear brother and sister. Pray for strength and healing and continued ability and leadership for the Body of Yeshua in Finland.

By praying for people who are your brothers and sisters, and whom you do not know personally, you are exercising the right to be God’s ambassador in what is called “agape love.” “Agape love” is the highest form of love, a love that does not look for earthly rewards or give and take, but just does the service of intercession in the kingdom of God.
You will be blessed by the almighty God who gives each of His children good for the good we do and recompense for the bad we do.
Your sincere prayers for people around the world do the following things for the Kingdom, the King, and for the body of the Messiah:
1. They unite you and the body in a major transcendent bond of prayer.
2. They demonstrate the oneness of the people of God.
3. Your prayer shows that there are people outside the realm of the physical world and personal interests who have a sincere bond and relationship that is heavenly and not earthly.
4. The Lord knows His children and gives credit and reward according to His promises.
We have brothers and sisters in Israel and in China, and I ask you to pray for their safety and protection: Deborah Ruth, Lydia, Sima, Laurel S., Naomi, David S., Daniel, Dalia D. and her sister Tikvah, and Ayla who has just given birth to a daughter. Pray for Elhanan and his family.
In Korea we need to pray for Dr. Song and his wife Dr. Kim, and for KIBI, the most important organization that started the great interest and support for Israel and for the Jewish disciples of Yeshua in Israel.
In Africa, please pray Ismael Alves, Asher Gabriel, M. Ahuva, and especially for Yeshua College in Zimbabwe. Netivyah is providing most of the teaching in this new college that is especially serving the leadership of the Lamba tribe in Africa.
Netivyah has been feeding the poor of Jerusalem for more than 25 years and we have a highly appreciated humanitarian ministry that is working with the Jerusalem municipality. As the demands for food for people who never before needed such help grows, I pray that the Lord will inspire and motivate brothers and sisters and ministries who can help with this to visit here and do what they can to make it possible for us to double or more than double, the number of people and families that we serve.
Our prime minister’s case is still before the courts. I am not happy that this is happening in Israel, but I am praying that true justice and righteousness is exhibited in our court system.
The truth must come out and I am not interested in a second prime minister of Israel going to jail. We have had a president in jail, a finance minister in jail, a minister of interior affairs in jail, and a member of the parliament in jail.
Pray for some dear friends, Rabbi Salt, and his family and Rabbi Hasselblad. They are both older and need protection and blessings.
We are praying for Tali and asking you all to pray for Tali. We need to ask God to heal and bless this dear sister that is suffering both physically and materially. Tali has three teenage daughters with health problems and Tali herself has some serious health problems.
I wish all of you, who stand with Israel and who pray for Jerusalem, the best of the Lord’s blessings and the fulfillment of all His promises to His faithful children.
Those who hear God and do His will are the ones who are called wise! Those who only hear His word and don’t do it are called foolish! Let us all strive to be wise and never foolish! The best is yet to come!
