친애하는 형제자매님들, 저는 깊은 슬픔과 애도의 마음으로 여러분께 1974년부터 네티비야 성경교육사역의 회원이자 지도자 중 한 분이었던 다비드(데이비드) 스턴 박사님의 영혼이 2022년 10월 8일 안식일 이른 아침에 만물의 창조주께 돌아갔음을 알려드립니다.
스턴 박사님은 죽은 자 가운데서 부활을 기다리며, 예루살렘 시 묘지에 안장되셨습니다.
데이비드 스턴 박사님은 로스엔젤레스 소재 캘리포니아대학교(UCLA) 경제학 박사셨고, 1974년에 메시아 예슈아를 알게 되었습니다.
메시아 예슈아를 믿은지 한 달 만에 데이비드는 진짜 캘리포니아 사람답게 제 문 앞에 나타났습니다. 그날 밤부터 이날까지 네티비야와 로에 이스라엘 회중(교회)은 데이비드의 집이었습니다.
데이비드는 로에 이스라엘 회중과 네티비야 모든 지체가 몹시 그리워하는 사람이 될 것입니다.
데이비드가 출판한 첫 번 째 책은 “캘리포니아 해안에서 서핑하기”였습니다. 그는 여러 가지 경제학 주제로 책을 몇 권 저술하기도 했습니다.

이번 안식일에 우리는 마지막 토라 포션에 이르렀습니다. 우리는 모세오경의 마지막 토라 포션을 읽을 것입니다. 이 토라 포션의 이름은 “베조트 하브라카”(“이는 축복이다”)입니다. 읽는 본문은 신명기 33:1-34:12입니다. 선지서에서 읽는 부분(하프타라)은 여호수아 1:1-18이고, 신약성경에서는 요한계시록 22:1-5을 읽을 것입니다. 모세가 느보산(비스가산)에 올라 혼자 그 산 정상에서 죽기 전에 마지막으로 한 일은 이스라엘 열두 지파에게 축복한 것입니다. 야곱이 죽기 전에도 똑같이 했는데요, 그러나 완전히 똑같지는 않습니다. 모세는 지파들의 기업의 이스라엘 땅에서의 지리적 분포에 대한 지식을 가지고 열두 지파를 축복합니다. 그는 이미 어느 지파가 가나안 땅 어디에서 기업을 갖게 되는지 알고 있습니다! 당연히 좀 이상합니다. 왜냐하면 지파별 땅 분배는 여호수아 13:8-17:18에서 일어나기 때문입니다. 모세가 어떻게 각 지파의 영토 경계를 아는지의 유일한 설명은 모세가 선지자라는 것입니다. 하나님의 선지자 모세는 선지자가 뭔지의 기준을 수립한 사람입니다. 그러나 이번 토라 포션에 그림자를 드리운 아주 중요한 랍비가 몇 명 있습니다. 히브리 성경 전체의 주석을 작성한 아주 중요한 랍비 중에 랍비 아브라함 벤 에즈라가 있습니다. 여러분의 매일 기도에 마르시아 슐람과 저, 요셉 슐람을 넣어 주시기 바랍니다. 저희는 전능하신 하나님을 믿습니다. 저희에게 그분의 긍휼이 충분하지만, 정직하고 진실한 형제자매님들의 기도는 분명 하나님의 긍휼을 일깨워 최소한 마르시아의 기억력 악화를 막을 수 있을 것입니다.
저의 사랑하는 아내는 심한 당뇨병과 류마티스 관절염과 지금은 기억력 소실로 고생하고 있습니다. 마르시아는 치매 진단을 받았습니다. 소아기 발병 당뇨병이 기억력 문제를 일으켰을 수 있습니다.
마르시아는 혼자 남겨두면 안 돼서, 저는 일주일의 대부분의 날을 집에 있어야 합니다. 그리고 제가 집을 떠날 일이 있으면, 누군가 마르시아가 인슐린을 복용하는지 확인하기 위해 와서 함께 있어야 합니다. 저희는 누군가 저희와 함게 살면서 저희를 도와 마르시아를 돌보도록 기도하고 있습니다.

The Jerusalem Prayer List – October 13, 2022

Dear Brothers and Sisters, with deep sadness and sorrow, I inform you that Dr. David Stern, a member and leader in Netivyah Bible Instruction Ministry from 1974, has returned his soul to the Creator of all. Early on the Sabbath, October 8th 2022.
Dr. David Stern has been placed in the ground of the city of Jerusalem, waiting for the resurrection from the dead.
Dr. David Stern was a doctor of economics in the University of California in Los Angeles. David discovered the Messiah Yeshua in 1974.
A month after believing in Yeshua the Messiah, David appeared in my door like a true Californian, and from that night until this day Netivyah and the Ro’eh Israel congregation have been David’s spiritual home.
David will be greatly missed by all of the members of the Ro’eh Israel congregation, and Netivyah.
David’s first published book was “Surfing the California Shores”! He has also written several books on a verity of economic topics.
His greatest contributions, and the ones that David was the happiest with, were the books that he wrote about faith in Yeshua and the Jewish people:

On this Shabbat we have come to the end of the reading of the Torah. We are reading the last Torah portion of the five books of Moses. The name of this portion is Vezot ha’Bracha (“this is the blessing”). The reading is from Deuteronomy 33:1-32:12. From the prophets (the Haftarah), the reading is Joshua 1:1-18, and from the New Testament we will be reading from Revelation 22:1-5. The last thing that Moses did before he climbed Mount Nebo (Pisgah) and died there alone on top of the mountain is to bless the 12 tribes of Israel. Before Jacob died, he did the same thing, but not exactly the same. Moses blesses the 12 tribes with full knowledge of the geographical spread of the tribal inheritance of the land. He already knows where each tribe will be allotted their inheritance of the land of Canaan! Of course, this is a bit strange, because the allocation of the tribal lands happens in Joshua 13:8-17:18. The only way to explain how Moses knew the territorial borders of each tribe is that Moses is a prophet. Moses, the prophet of God, who set the standard of what it means to be a prophet. However, there are some very important rabbis that cast a shadow on this portion of the Torah. Among the very important rabbinical commentators of the complete Hebrew bible is Rabbi Abraham Ibn Ezra. (He lived in Spain in the city of Tudela, Taifa of Zaragoza, during the Muslim rule in Spain.) Rabbi Abraham Ibn Ezra is one of my favorite rabbinical commentators of the Bible. He was an honest and rational student of the scriptures, and when he couldn’t write something that would be very controversial he would write, “this is a secret.” In the case of the last words of Moses, he writes that if you want to know who wrote the book of Deuteronomy, you should know God’s “Secret of the Twelve”. This comment is in Ibn Ezra’s commentary on Deuteronomy 1:1,2. Ibn Ezra does not explicitly say more than this very mute statement. But the Secret of the Twelve is explained by other rabbis that lived later in Spain. The Secret of the Twelve is in chapter 34 of Deuteronomy, that actually tells us what happened on Mount Nebo, after the death of Moses. This strengthens Ibn Ezra’s idea that Deuteronomy 1:1,2 was written by someone who actually crossed the Jordan River. Of course, for those of us who know Yeshua and respect and trust the New Testament texts as given by the Holy Spirit of God, and are authoritative for us. We know that Moses did finally cross the Jordan River into the promised land, and met with Yeshua together with Elijah on the Mountain of Transfiguration. “And behold, Moses and Elijah appeared to them, talking with Him.” — Matthew 17:3 [NKJV] The reason that I am bringing this commentary of Rabbi Abraham Ibn Ezra is that I want the readers to have a better opinion of the great rabbinical commentators of the Hebrew bible. And Rabbi Abraham Ibn Ezra was one of the finest of the Sephardic bible scholars in the 12th Century. Also, I think that Rabbi Abraham Ibn Ezra’s “God’s secret” comments have important implications for our faith in Yeshua as the ultimate atonement and the ultimate scapegoat of Yom Kippur. This, God willing, I will elucidate before next Yom Kippur. For those of you who want to venture into it alone – please look at the commentary of Ibn Ezra on Leviticus 16:8. And then look at the commentary of Rabbi Nachmanides (the Ramban) on the same verse, and see how he explains Rabbi Ibn Ezra’s comments.
***************************************************** And at last in our Torah portion, the last one in the Torah (the end of Deuteronomy), Moses blesses all the twelve tribes of Israel. And unlike Jacob, finds something good about every one of them, including Simeon and Levi (who Jacob actually cursed and didn’t bless). How wonderful a shepherd Moses was, and how noble in his spirit was he! Great men and great leaders are always humble and always giving selflessly of their time, their lives and their spirits, and many times of their wealth, in service and love and dedication for the masses! Moses is gone and Joshua the son of Nun is now burdened with the leadership of Israel in a new phase and many new challenges. We all, my dear brothers and sisters, have so much more to learn from the Torah, and fortunately next week we will start over from Genesis again, and God-willing have another year plowing through the greatest revelation from God to mankind – the examples of our forefathers, for good and for less-good, and the instructions of our Heavenly Father of what is right and what is wrong, what is holy and what is profane, what is just and what is unjust… The Word of the Lord, as the apostle Paul said: “All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work.” — 2 Timothy 3:16,17 [NKJV]

In Jerusalem pray for the following brothers and sisters who are in need of divine grace and the gentle touch of the hand of God for healing and strength.
Ilana Ahijervie, a dear sister who is 98 years old and suffering from memory problems.
Lea Korky, a dear sister who is 89 years old and served for many years as a nurse in the Sha’arei Zedek Hospital in Jerusalem.
Sarit, a sister born in Jerusalem, over 87 years old, lives alone. Has no close family, and suffers from several old-age illnesses.
Yehuda Hochman, is a dear older brother living in the Negev desert with some illness that needs healing.
Please put Marcia Shulam and me, Joseph Shulam in your daily prayers. We trust in the Almighty God His mercy is sufficient for us, but prayer by honest and sincere brothers and sisters can surely wake up God’s mercy and at least stop the deterioration of Marcia’s memory.
My dear wife is suffering from severe diabetes and rheumatoid arthritis and now also from memory loss. She was diagnosed with dementia. Childhood-onset Diabetics are susceptible to memory problems.
Marcia can’t be left alone, and I must stay home most of the days of the week, and if I leave the house someone has to come and stay with Marcia to make sure that she takes her insulin. We are praying for someone to live with us and help us with caring for Marcia.
Pray for Adam R., Adam works in Netivyah as the media director and he, like Yehuda and Daniel, has been raised in Netivyah congregation in the Galilee. Adam has lost much of his hearing as a result of a virus. Pray for Adam and his family of 8 children.
Pray for Adam’s father and mother, Barry and Dalia. They too have some health problems and challenges.
Pray for Miriam and for Hannah, her daughter. Miriam is a dear sister and has lost her husband recently. Pray for Daniel S. and his children. Our dear leader in the Ro’eh Israel congregation, Gary, and his health, and for his wife Melanie and their family.
Pray for Um Mahmud Abu-Eid and Jimmy Abu-Eid and all of the family. This is a dear family of old friends that needs healing and wisdom for the children and for their work.
Please pray for the Romero family who live deep in the Negev desert. It is hot there and they are far from our congregation, we miss them, but we wish them a wonderful summer.
Pray for the Ro’eh Israel congregation and the leadership of Netivyah. I have received my last check in the end of August. I am no longer employed by Netivyah. I am continuing the Lord’s work without stopping or slowing down for one minute. I need your prayers because from January I will be living on a pension. Until January, by God’s grace!

Pray for the congregations related to Netivyah in Brazil, to have the strength and stamina to face the challenges in front of them with courage and strength of faithfulness to the Lord, and to the vision of the restoration of the church and Israel.
Pray for the millions of victims of the Spanish and Portuguese Inquisition who have been forced to convert to the Catholic church, and now want to return home to the land of Israel and to the faith of our fathers.
Pray for the state of Israel to open the doors for these lost Jews to be able to return and fulfill God’s promises to the prophet Ovadyah:
“But on Mount Zion there shall be deliverance, And there shall be holiness; The house of Jacob shall possess their possessions. The house of Jacob shall be a fire, And the house of Joseph a flame; But the house of Esau shall be stubble; They shall kindle them and devour them, And no survivor shall remain of the house of Esau, For the Lord has spoken. The South shall possess the mountains of Esau, And the Lowland shall possess Philistia. They shall possess the fields of Ephraim And the fields of Samaria. Benjamin shall possess Gilead. And the captives of this host of the children of Israel Shall possess the land of the Canaanites As far as Zarephath. The captives of Jerusalem who are in Sepharad Shall possess the cities of the South. Then saviors shall come to Mount Zion To judge the mountains of Esau, And the kingdom shall be the Lord’s.” — Obadiah 1:17-21 [NKJV]
Pray for Paulo C. Pereira Braga Dias. He is the father of a dear sister in Brazil.
Pray for a dear young man, Paulo, from Curitiba, Brazil, who is seriously needing our prayers for sanity and mental health.
Pray for our dear brother Marcelo G. and his family. Marcelo is a pioneer in the establishing the Teaching from Zion ministry in Brazil and the Har Zion Congregation in Belo-Horizonte.
Pray for Marcelo’s father who is up in the years. Pray for our brothers in the Har Zion congregation, the widow of Pastor George, and for those who are ill and need healing.
Pray for Livia Schnell Nothen, she has some issues with her physical health and a growth in her adrenal gland. And other health issues.
Guilherme Antonio Nothen Becker, who is suffering from back problems. Aratuza de Oliveira his wife. Pray for this 3-year-old child that has serious problems with his eyes and ask the Lord to give healing to his eyes. This child’s name is Caique de Oliveira Becker.
Pray for Bernardo Antonio Nothen Becker. Bernardo is addicted to gambling and playing poker. This caused deep sorrow to his family.
Fernanda Nothen Becker, our dear sister has problems with her job that cause her pressure and challenges. Pray for the social situation in Fernanda’s work to turn and her suffering to turn into joy and friendship.
A 70-year-old Pastor Paulo C. Pereira Braga Dias, suffering from diabetes.

Pray for sister Reiko Ishiida and Elder Takeo and his wife Tomoko from Tokyo, and for Daisuke Sensei in Osaka. Dr. Yuizawa, and Pastor Yushida and his family.
Pray for Sister Yoko Nagumo in Japan.
In India, Pastor Isaac, from Chennai, needs our prayers. Pastor Isaac is suffering from kidney problems and has to have dialysis several times per week.
Tony Tam and his wife Luisa and son Marco need special prayer for their situation.
Pray for the Cohen family in Hong Kong and for the leadership and congregation of 611 in Hong Kong.
We continue to pray for Zhou Wenrian, Abe family, Toru San, Yumi Ohara and her family. Deborah Ruth, Ayla and Daniel and their daughter. Dr. Song, and his wife Sister Harriet Kim.
Please pray for Ruby K. from Hong Kong. Ruby has gone through a very complicated surgery for multiple cancers in her body. The surgery was very long, and Ruby is back home now recovering. Please lift Ruby K. and ask the Lord to heal and deliver Ruby from Hong Kong.
Pray for family and friends and dear brothers and sisters in the United States of America.
Please pray for the daughter of Bill Colwell, who is very sick with cancer.
Please pray for my family in the United States: Barry my son and his wife Beth, and for Joey my grandson. Pray for their divine protection and health.
Pray for Danah my daughter's health issues. I pray for the Lord to give Danah wisdom and peace and calm in life and in her work.
Pray for Noaam my granddaughter. She is working two jobs now and needs good health and wisdom to make the right choices and plans for life, education, immigration to Israel, and just general protection from all harm.
Pray for David Young the preacher in Murfreesboro, Tennessee, who is back to preaching after recovering from medical issues. Please keep David in your prayers.
Pray for Ruby Little, our dear and faithful sister who has cancer and has stopped receiving medical treatment for the cancer that she has. Please pray for Ruby that the Lord will heal and strengthen her and provide for all her needs both medically and socially.
Aaron Hook, Nancy Hook’s oldest son, needs our prayers for wisdom and healing from past issues of life. Pray for Don, Aaron’s father and Nancy’s husband. Don and Nancy are now in the USA. Keep Nancy in your prayers.
Lift for blessing and healing Jonathan B. and his wife Aviva and their new baby, his mother, and his brother Daniel. Pray for these very important men of God: Rabbi Salt, his family, and Rabbi Hasselblad. They are both older and need protection and blessings.
Pray a blessing for a dear sister Angela Isby and her situation. Pray for Tiz H. and Lion H., and for Nissim and Ilana Avramov.
Pray for three women of God in Canada who need healing, Lynda, Sandy and Joanne.
I pray that the Lord will inspire and motivate brothers and sisters and ministries who can help with this to visit here do what they can to make it possible for us to double or more than double, the number of people and families that we serve.
Please pray for Netivyah and for the good work that Netivyah is doing in Israel and around the world.
We need more workers because of the challenges and needs and opportunities to bless the King Yeshua and His Kingdom down here on Earth and bless the poor people of Jerusalem and produce more materials, books, and magazines.
We ask you to join us in prayer that the right young people, talented and anointed by the Spirit of God will come and work with us, and the provision to pay the Netivyah workers a fair and just payment.
