예루살렘 기도 목록 – 2022년 9월 8일

이번 안식일 토라 포션은 키 테쩨(“네가 나가서 전쟁할 때에”)라고 부르는, 신명기 21:10~25:19입니다. 선지서에서 읽는 부분(하프타라)은 이사야 54:1-10이고, 신약성경에서는 고린도전서 5:1-5를 읽을 것입니다.
제가 이번 토라 포션을 읽을 때 제게 인상적인 첫 번째는 시작 구절입니다: “네가 나가서 적군과 싸울 때에 네 하나님 여호와께서 그들을 네 손에 넘기시므로 네가 그들을 사로잡은 후에” — 신명기 21:10 이 구절을 읽자마자 저는 앞 장에 있는 유사한 구절이 기억났습니다: “네가 나가서 적군과 싸우려 할 때에 말과 병거와 백성이 너보다 많음을 볼지라도 그들을 두려워하지 말라 애굽 땅에서 너를 인도하여 내신 네 하나님 여호와께서 너와 함께 하시느니라.” — 신명기 20:1 이 두 경우에 문제는 네가 나가서 네 적군과 싸운다면(if)이 아니라, “네가 나가서 … 싸울 때에(when)”입니다. 처음에 저는 이 두 부사절이 너무도 유사함에 심히 충격을 받았습니다. 몇 분 후 저는 진정하고 아브라함과 이삭과 야곱의 자손인, 하나님의 택한 백성인, 하나님의 영원한 기업인 저희 민족의 역사가 첫 날부터, 즉 아브라함과 사라와 그들을 따르는 자들이 가나안 땅에 발을 들여놓은 첫 날부터 이웃과 문제를 겪은 것이 기억났습니다. 주전 1800년 이전부터 이 땅에 거주하던 가나안 일곱 족속 모두 외지인이었고 그 당시 이 땅을 다스리던 사람들도 본토인이 아니었습니다. 그들은 이 땅을 정복한 이집트인들이었습니다. 하나님께서 왜 이 땅을 선택하셨는가는 또 다른 문제입니다. 그러나 이집트인들이 이 땅을 원한 이유는 이 땅 주민 때문이 아니라, 지중해와 아라비아 광야 사이의 좁다란 이 땅을 통과하는 중요한 두 대로(大路) 때문입니다. 아브라함이 앗시리아(앗수르) 북쪽 하란이라는 큰 도시에서 내려왔을 때 이 땅에 거주하던 민족들은 성경에 나열되어 있습니다: “네 하나님 여호와께서 너를 인도하사 네가 가서 차지할 땅으로 들이시고 네 앞에서 여러 민족 헷 족속과 기르가스 족속과 아모리 족속과 가나안 족속과 브리스 족속과 히위 족속과 여부스 족속 곧 너보다 많고 힘이 센 일곱 족속을 쫓아내실 때에” — 신명기 7:1 이들은 아브라함과 이삭과 야곱과 그의 열두 아들들이 가나안 땅에 살 때 이곳에 거주하던 일곱 족속입니다. 이들은 지중해 동쪽, 아시아, 다뉴브강 위쪽 동유럽의 아주 크고 강한 민족들로부터 이주해 온 식민지 개척자들입니다. 이 곳은 역사적으로 혼란스러운 곳이었고, 사실 그 때 이후 지금까지도 쭉 혼란스러운 곳입니다. 그래서 성령님께서 대답하시는 문제는 “네가 나가서 싸운다면”이 아니라, “네가 나가서 싸울 때에!”입니다. 친애하는 형제님들, 여러분께는 미안하지만, 같은 질문이자 같은 대답인 이것은 여전히, 주님의 크고 경이로운 지구의 작고 좁은 한 귀퉁이인 이 땅에만 관련 있는 것입니다. 지금 삶의 교훈을 위한 하나님의 말씀 토라는 우리에게 전쟁 시에 우리가 하고 싶은 대로 뭐든 할 자유가 없다고 말하고 있습니다. 전쟁 시에 어떻게 행동해야 하는지 하나님께서 주신 규칙이 있습니다! 전쟁에 나간 자는 적군 중에서 아리따운 여인을 데려와 그냥 강간하고 성 노예로 만들 수 없습니다. 그 여인을 자기 집으로 데려와 그녀의 가족을 애도할 시간과, 애도의 슬픔에서 회복되고 그녀의 새로운 처소와 새로운 삶에 적응할 시간을 주어야 합니다. 그 집에서 산 지 한 달 지난 후에 그 여인을 아내로 삼을 수 있고, 그 사람은 남편이 되는 것입니다. 이것은 토라가 우리에게 명하는 아주 특별한 것입니다. 고대 중동에서 비롯된 법전이 몇 가지 있습니다: 함무라비 법전과 주전 3천 년대에 있던 우르-남무 법전. 이것들은 이스라엘 땅 북쪽의 크고 강한 민족들에 속한 소문난 문명화된 법전입니다. 하나님께서 토라에서 이스라엘 자손에게 명하신 것과 비슷하기조차 한 것은 하나도 없습니다. 고대의 모든 법전에는 적군에 대해 해도 되는 것과 노예에 대해 해도 되는 것 사이에는 큰 차이가 있습니다. 이번 주 토라 포션에서 제게 인상적인 두 번째는 적군 중에서 데려와 아내로 삼은 이 여인이 마음에 들지 않는다고 하여 그녀를 팔거나 학대하거나 그녀의 의지에 반해 다른 사람에게 줘버릴 수 없다는 것입니다. 오로지 그녀에게 자유를 줄 수 있을 뿐입니다. 그녀를 풀어주어 그녀가 원하는 곳에 가서 살게 해주되, 아무런 조건도 제약도 두어서는 안 됩니다. 이 토라 포션 키 테째에서 제가 배우는 세 번째는 신명기 22:1-4에 있습니다: “네 형제의 소나 양이 길 잃은 것을 보거든 못 본 체하지 말고 너는 반드시 그것들을 끌어다가 네 형제에게 돌릴 것이요 네 형제가 네게서 멀거나 또는 네가 그를 알지 못하거든 그 짐승을 네 집으로 끌고 가서 네 형제가 찾기까지 네게 두었다가 그에게 돌려 줄지니 나귀라도 그리하고 의복이라도 그리하고 형제가 잃어버린 어떤 것이든지 네가 얻거든 다 그리하고 못 본 체하지 말 것이며 네 형제의 나귀나 소가 길에 넘어진 것을 보거든 못 본 체하지 말고 너는 반드시 형제를 도와 그것들을 일으킬지니라.” — 신명기 22:1-4 와~, 친애하는 형제자매님들, 이것은 하나님께서 그분의 성령을 통해 그분의 택한 자녀에게 명하신 아주 중요하고 옳고 정의로운 것입니다. “택한 자녀”라고 말할 때 저는 이스라엘과 유대인만 말한 것이 아니라, 어느 나라 어느 대륙에서든 참 감람나무에 접붙여진, 메시아를 영접하고 그분의 피로 구속받고 이스라엘 연방에 들어온 모든 이방인(엡 2:10-13 참조)을 말한 것입니다. 우리는 모두 이 규칙에서 교훈을 얻고 그것을 받아들이고 그대로 살기 위해 최선을 다해야 합니다. 이 말씀에 근거한, 이스라엘 국가의 한 법이 있는데, “선한 사마리아인 법”이라고 부르는 법입니다! 제가 이번 토라 포션의 이 부분을 간단히 요약한다면, 다음과 같을 것입니다: 여러분은 여러분의 사악한 취향을 만족시키기 위해 여러분의 원수를 잔인하게 대우할 수 없습니다. 여러분은 여러분의 원수도 하나님의 자녀라는 것, 그를 여러분만큼 소중한 하나님의 자녀와 같이 대해야 한다는 것을 기억해야 합니다! 전쟁 시에 여러분의 적군 포로를 대할 때 여러분이 대우받고 싶은 대로, 여러분의 가족과 형제가 대우받기 원하는 대로 대우하라는 것입니다. 여러분이 여러분 것이 아닌 것을 발견한다면, 그것이 무생물이든, 반지든, 시계든, 자켓이든, 아니면 살아있는 애완동물이든, 자전거든, 자동차든, 나귀든, 소든, 개든, 무엇이든 여러분은 그 잃어버린 “물건”이나 “동물”의 주인을 찾아 원주인에게 돌려주기 위해 할 수 있는 모든 것을 해야 합니다. 그것이 살아있는 동물이거나 짐을 나르는 짐승이고, 여러분이 그 주인을 모르고 찾을 수도 없다면, 여러분은 그것을 여러분의 집으로 데리고 가서 그 주인이 찾으러 올 때까지 돌봐야 합니다. 서구에는 토라에 있는 것과 같은 그런 규칙은 없습니다. 서구에서는 “주운 사람이 주인!”입니다. 친애하는 형제자매님들, 저는 우리가 그것에 따라 살아가도록 하나님께서 모세의 손을 통해 우리에게 주신 이 위대한 규칙들과 명령들에 대해 계속 말할 수 있을 것입니다. 그러나 이 가르침은 너무 길어질 것입니다. 그냥 여러분께 복음서의 선한 사마리아인 이야기를 상기시켜 드리겠습니다: “네 형제의 나귀나 소가 길에 넘어진 것을 보거든 못 본 체하지 말고 너는 반드시 형제를 도와 그것들을 일으킬지니라.” 유대교에서는 이렇게 말합니다: “네 동류 사람이 도로나 보도나 네 집 마당이나 네 동네에 넘어져 있는 것을 보면 얼마나 더 하겠는가.” 멈춰서 그를 일으켜 세워주고, 어쩌면 구급차나 경찰을 불러주거나 그 사람을 여러분의 집으로 데려와 적어도 물 한 잔이라도 주십시오! 여러분의 형제의 필요를 모른 체 하지 마십시오. 그도 똑같은 하나님의 아들이며 하나님의 자녀인 인류의 일원입니다!

The Jerusalem Prayer List – September 8, 2022

The Torah portion this Shabbat is called Ki Tetze (“when you go out to war”), Deuteronomy 2:10-25:19. The reading from the prophets (The Haftarah) comes from Isaiah 54:1-10, and from the New Testament we will be reading from 1 Corinthians 5:1-5.
The first thing that hit me when I read this portion of the Torah is the opening phrase: “When you go out to war against other nations, and the Lord your God gives them up into your hands and you take them as prisoners…” — Deuteronomy 21:10 Immediately I remembered that there is a similar phrase in the previous chapter: “When you go out to war against other nations, and come face to face with horses and war-carriages and armies greater in number than yourselves, have no fear of them: for the Lord your God is with you, who took you up out of the land of Egypt.” — Deuteronomy 20:1 In both cases the question is not if you go out to war against your enemies, but “When you go out to war…” At first, I was hit hard by these two consecutive phrases that have such a similarity. After a few minutes I calmed down and remembered our history as a people, that, as the seed of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, as the chosen people of God, as God’s eternal inheritance, have from day one, from the day that Abraham and Sarah and their followers, stepped in this land of Canaan, they suffered problems with their neighbors. All the seven Canaanite nations that inhabited this land from before 1800 BC were foreigners, and the people who ruled this land during that period were also not locals. They were the Egyptians, who conquered this land. Why did God choose this land is another question, but the reason that the Egyptians wanted this land was not because of the inhabitants of this land, but because of the two most important highways, roads, that passed through this narrow strip of land between the Mediterranean Sea and the Arabian wilderness. The list of the nations that inhabited this land when Abraham came down from the great city of Haran in Northern Assyria is listed in the Bible: “When the Lord your God takes you into the land where you are going, which is to be your heritage, and has sent out the nations before you, the Hittites and the Girgashites and the Amorites and the Canaanites and the Perizzites and the Hivites and the Jebusites, seven nations greater and stronger than you…” — Deuteronomy 7:1 [NKJV] These are the seven nations that inhabited the land of Canaan when Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob and his 12 sons lived here. These are colonizers from some very big and powerful nations from the eastern Mediterranean and from Asia, and from Middle Europe above the Danube River. The place was a mess throughout history, and in fact it has remained a mess ever since, even until this day. So, the question that the Holy Spirit answers is not, “if you go to war”. The question that the Holy Spirit answers is, “when you go to war!” Sorry to confess to you, my dear brothers, the same question and the same answer is still the only one that is relevant for this our small and narrow corner of the Lord’s big and wonderful Earth. Now the Torah, God’s word of instruction for life, tells us that in war we are not free to do whatever we want to do, or feel like doing. There are rules of how to behave in war, God given rules! You can’t take a beautiful woman from your enemies and just rape her and make a sex slave out of her. You have to take her to your house, and give her time to grieve for her family, and give her time to recover from her grief and get used to her new place and new life. And after a month that she lives in your home, then you can take her as your wife, and you can be her husband. This is something very special that the Torah commands us. We have several more ancient codes of law from the Middle East: the code of Hammurabi, and the Ur-Nammu code of law that is from the third millennium BC. They are supposed civilized codes of law, belonging to big and powerful nations north of the land of Israel. There is nothing even close to what God commands the children of Israel in the Torah. In all the ancient codes of law there is a vast difference of what you are allowed to do with your enemy, and with your slaves… The second thing that impressed me in this week’s Torah portion is that if you don’t delight in this wife that you have taken from among your enemies, you can’t sell her or abuse her or give her to someone else against her will. All you can do is give her freedom. Release her to go and live where she wants to, without any conditions or restrictions from your part. The third thing that I learn from this Torah portion of Ki Tetze is from Deuteronomy 22:1-4: “If you see your brother’s ox or his sheep wandering, do not go by without helping, but take them back to your brother. If their owner is not near, or if you are not certain who he is, then take the beast to your house and keep it till its owner comes in search of it, and then you are to give it back to him. Do the same with his ass or his robe or anything which has gone from your brother’s keeping and which you have come across: do not keep it to yourself. If you see your brother’s ox or his ass falling down on the road, do not go by without giving him help in lifting it up again.” — Deuteronomy 22:1-4 Wow, dear brothers, and sisters, this is such an important, right, and just rule that God in His Holy Spirit commands His chosen children. By “chosen children” I don’t mean only Israel and the Jews, but every gentile from any nation or continent that has been grafted into the natural olive tree, and has received the Messiah, and has been redeemed by His blood, and has been added to the commonwealth of Israel (see Ephesians 2:10-13). We all ought to learn from this rule, accept it, and do our best to live by it. A law on the books of the State of Israel, based on this text, is called “The Good Samaritan Law”! If I summarize this section of the Torah portion in simple words, it would be something like this: You can’t treat your enemy with cruelty, to satisfy your perverse appetites. You must remember that your enemy is also a child of God and treat him like a child of God, just as valuable as you are! Treat the captives of your enemy in war as you would like to be treated, and as you would like your family and brothers to be treated. If you find something that is not yours, be it an inanimate object, a ring, a watch, a jacket, or a living pet, or a bicycle, or a car, or a donkey, ox, dog, or cow… you must do everything possible to find the owner of the lost “thing” or “animal” and return the lost to its proper owner. If it is a living animal or beast of burden, and you don’t know and can’t find the right owner, you are to take it to your house and care for it until the own comes to ask for it. There is no such rule in the Torah like in the West: “finders keepers!” Dear brothers and sisters, I could go on and on with these great rules and commands that God gave us thousands of years ago in the hands of Moses, so that we can live by them. However, this teaching would become too long. Just to remind you of the story of the Good Samaritan in the Gospel: “If you see your brother’s ox or his ass falling down on the road, do not go by without giving him help in lifting it up again.” In Judaism we say: “How much the more if you see a fellow human being falling down on the road, or the sidewalk or your yard, or your neighborhood.” Stop and lift him up, and maybe call an ambulance or the police, or just take him to your home and give him at least a glass of cold water! Don’t ignore your brother’s needs, he is also a son of the same God, and a member of the same human family of God’s children!

Lea Korky, a dear sister who is 89 years old and served for many years as a nurse in the Sha’arei Zedek Hospital in Jerusalem.
Sarit, a sister born in Jerusalem, over 87 years old, lives alone. Has no close family, and suffers from several old-age illnesses.
David Stern, a dear old brother, and friend. Suffering from advanced stages of Parkinson’s.
Yehuda Hochman, is a dear older brother living in the Negev desert with some illness that needs healing.
Please put Marcia Shulam and me, Joseph Shulam in your daily prayers. We trust in the Almighty God His mercy is sufficient for us, but prayer by honest and sincere brothers and sisters can surely wake up God’s mercy and at least stop the deterioration of Marcia’s memory.
My dear wife is suffering from severe diabetes and rheumatoid arthritis and now also from memory loss. She was diagnosed with dementia. Childhood-onset Diabetics are susceptible to memory problems. Marcia can’t be left alone, and I must stay home most of the days of the week, and if I leave the house someone has to come and stay with Marcia to make sure that she takes her insulin.
Pray for Adam R., Adam works in Netivyah as the media director and he, like Yehuda and Daniel, has been raised in Netivyah congregation in the Galilee. Adam has lost much of his hearing as a result of a virus. Pray for Adam and his family of 8 children.
Pray for Adam’s father and mother, Barry and Dalia. They too have some health problems and challenges.
Pray for Miriam and for Hannah, her daughter. Miriam is a dear sister and has lost her husband recently. Pray for Daniel S. and his children. Our dear leader in the Ro’eh Israel congregation, Gary, and his health, and for his wife Melanie and their family.
Pray for Um Mahmud Abu-Eid and Jimmy Abu-Eid and all of the family. This is a dear family of old friends that needs healing and wisdom for the children and for their work.
Please pray for the Romero family who live deep in the Negev desert. It is hot there and they are far from our congregation, we miss them, but we wish them a wonderful summer.
Pray for the Roeh Israel Congregation and the leadership of Netivyah. We need to build up our staff in order to meet the challenges of Netivyah and the Roeh Israel Congregation in Jerusalem.
Pray for brothers and sisters in the U.K.
We bless our dear sister Celestine with health and blessings from Heaven for her life and her family. We pray for the Lord to be her comfort and provide sister Celestine all her physical and her spiritual and her social needs with His grace.
Pray for our dear brother Reuven from Netivyah who is living and working in London now and pray for his wife. Pray that they both are protected and blessed and that Reuven’s wife finds a good job in London.

Pray for Bernardo Antonio Nothen Becker. Bernardo is addicted to gambling and playing poker. This caused deep sorrow to his family.
Fernanda Nothen Becker, our dear sister has problems with her job that cause her pressure and challenges. Pray for the social situation in Fernanda’s work to turn and her suffering to turn into joy and friendship.

Pray for Sister Yoko Nagumo in Japan.
In India, Pastor Isaac, from Chennai, needs our prayers. Pastor Isaac is suffering from kidney problems and has to have dialysis several times per week.
Tony Tam and his wife Luisa and son Marco need special prayer for their situation.
Pray for the Cohen family in Hong Kong and for the leadership and congregation of 611 in Hong Kong.
We continue to pray for Zhou Wenrian, Abe family, Toru San, Yumi Ohara and her family. Deborah Ruth, Ayla and Daniel and their daughter. Dr. Song, and his wife Sister Harriet Kim.
Please pray for Ruby K. from Hong Kong. Ruby has gone through a very complicated surgery for multiple cancers in her body. The surgery was very long, and Ruby is back home now recovering. Please lift Ruby K. and ask the Lord to heal and deliver Ruby from Hong Kong.
Pray for family and friends and dear brothers and sisters in the United States of America.
Please pray for the daughter of Bill Colwell, who is very sick with cancer.
Please pray for my family in the United States: Barry my son and his wife Beth, and for Joey my grandson. Pray for their divine protection and health.
Pray for Danah my daughter that has several health issues. I pray for Danah’s protection from the Coronavirus and from any other health issue. I pray for the Lord to give Danah wisdom and peace and calm in life and in her work.
Pray for Noaam my granddaughter. She is working two jobs now and needs good health and wisdom to make the right choices and plans for life, education, immigration to Israel, and just general protection from all harm.
Pray for David Young the preacher in Murfreesboro, Tennessee, who is back to preaching after recovering from medical issues. Please keep David in your prayers.
Pray for Ruby Little, our dear and faithful sister who has cancer and has stopped receiving medical treatment for the cancer that she has. Please pray for Ruby that the Lord will heal and strengthen her and provide for all her needs both medically and socially.
Aaron Hook, Nancy Hook’s oldest son, needs our prayers for wisdom and healing from past issues of life. Pray for Don, Aaron’s father and Nancy’s husband. Don and Nancy are now in the USA. Keep Nancy in your prayers.
Lift for blessing and healing Jonathan B. and his wife Aviva and their new baby, his mother, and his brother Daniel. Pray for these very important men of God: Rabbi Salt, his family, and Rabbi Hasselblad. They are both older and need protection and blessings.
Pray a blessing for a dear sister Angela Isby and her situation. Pray for Tiz H. and Lion H., and for Nissim and Ilana Avramov.
Pray for three women of God in Canada who need healing, Lynda, Sandy and Joanne.
I pray that the Lord will inspire and motivate brothers and sisters and ministries who can help with this to visit here do what they can to make it possible for us to double or more than double, the number of people and families that we serve.
Please pray for Netivyah and for the good work that Netivyah is doing in Israel and around the world.
We need more workers because of the challenges and needs and opportunities to bless the King Yeshua and His Kingdom down here on Earth and bless the poor people of Jerusalem and produce more materials, books, and magazines.
We ask you to join us in prayer that the right young people, talented and anointed by the Spirit of God will come and work with us, and the provision to pay the Netivyah workers a fair and just payment.
