하나님의 환대
이번 안식일에 읽는 토라 포션은 “바예라(그리고 그가 나타났다)”, 창세기 18:1~22:24입니다. 선지서에서 읽는 말씀은 열왕기하 4:1-37이고, 신약성경에서 읽는 말씀은 베드로후서 3:1-7입니다. 창세기 18장은 다음 말씀으로 시작됩니다: “여호와께서 마므레의 상수리나무들이 있는 곳에서 아브라함에게 나타나시니라 날이 뜨거울 때에 그가 장막 문에 앉아 있다가” 갑자기 불쑥 세 천사가 나타나 아브라함이 진을 치고 있는 곳으로 다가옵니다. 우리는 14장에서 아브라함의 진영에 20세에서 50세 사이의 장정이 318명이 있었다는 것을 기억해야 합니다. 이 정도면 진영이 큰 것입니다. 아브라함의 이 군사들이 각자 아내 한 명, 아이 한 명이 있다고 해도 이 진영의 인원은 1,000여 명이나 됩니다! 사람들이 환대에 대해 말할 때 가리키는 본문은 창세기 18장입니다. 어떤 사람들은 이 천사들 중 한 명이 바로 주(여호와)셨다고 말합니다. 이 토라 포션에서 제기되는 질문은 다음과 같습니다: 아브라함이 사전 통지나 알림 없이 그의 진영을 방문한 이들 낯선 손님들에게 아주 환영하여 환대했을까요? 우리가 이번 토라의 이 일에서 환대에 대해 배우길 원한다면, 가장 중요한 점은 무엇일까요? 1. 사람들(사람 또는 천사)이 여러분의 집 문을 두드립니다. 여러분이 내다보는 구멍으로 보니 한 번도 본 적 없는 낯선 사람들이 있습니다. 여러분은 어떻게 합니까? 문을 열고 “어서 오세요” 말합니다! 2. 그 손님들은 여러분의 장막 또는 거실로 들어옵니다. 여러분은 그들이 걸어온 것을 압니다. 왜냐하면 자동차든 마차든 그들이 타고 온 멋진 탈 것이 없으니까요. 여러분은 그들을 편안히 앉을 수 있게 해주고 그들의 발을 씻깁니다. 3. 여러분은 부엌으로 달려가 아내에게 냉장고에 먹을만한 것이 있는지 묻습니다. 대답이 “아니오, 여보. 우리 손님들에게 대접할 좋은 것이나 요리된 것이나 준비된 것이 없어요.”입니다. 4. 집에 부리는 사람이 있으면 여러분은 그들을 가장 가까운 동네 식료품점에 보내 고품질의 쇠고기를 사서 가능한 한 빨리 가져오라고 이릅니다. 그 다음이 아주 중요합니다. 그들이 세파르드 유대인인지 아쉬케나지 유대인인지 분명하지 않기에 여러분은 그들에게 “발을 씻겨드릴까요?” 제안합니다. 그들이 세파르드 유대인 또는 중동계 유대인이라면 그들은 좋다고 하고 신발과 양말을 벗으며 이러한 친절에 즉각적으로 감사해 할 것입니다. 만약 여러분의 갑작스러운 손님이 아쉬케나지 유대인이라면 그들은 신발과 양말을 벗고 여러분이 발을 씻기게 하는 것을 정중히 거절할 것입니다. 요점은 아브라함이 환대 예법을 따랐고 그의 불청객의 문화를 존중하여 그들에게 발 씻음을 강요하지 않았다는 것입니다. 여러분은 그들의 발을 씻어드리겠다 제안할 수 있고 또한 여행의 피로를 풀도록 그들의 발에 특별한 크림도 발라줄 수도 있을 것입니다. 만약 그들이 좋다고 한다면, 여러분은 부리는 사람 중 하나를 불러 발을 씻는 데 사용하는 큰 대야와 수건도 좀 가져오라고 시킬 것입니다. 요점은 여러분이 때와 장소에 맞는 관습에 따라 여러분의 손님을 환대하고 그들이 편안히 느끼도록 해주기 위해 최선을 다하는 것입니다. 5. 음식이 맛 좋게 완벽하게 요리되고 손님에게 대접할 준비가 되어가는 동안 여러분은 겨우 몇 시간 전에 여러분의 집 문을 두드린 이 낯선 세 사람과 대화를 시작합니다. 여러분은 대화로 그들을 편안히 느끼게 만듭니다. 여러분은 이 사람들이 누구이며 이들이 어디서 왔는지 몹시 알고 싶기에 여러분의 호기심을 숨기고 조심스럽고 점잖게 적합하고 정치적으로 옳은 다음과 같은 질문을 해보려 최선을 다합니다: 신사분들, 어디서 오셨는지요? 저희 진영을 방문하시면서 알아보고자 하는 어떤 것이 있으신가요? 음식은 요리되고 있고 맛있는 냄새가 점점 짙어지고 있습니다. 여러분은 차나 커피를, 어쩌면 신선한 오렌지주스도 이미 마셨을까요? 6. 음식이 준비되어 여러분의 아내나 집사 중 한 명이 커다란 둥근 스테인리스 쟁반에 그 음식을 가져옵니다. 7. 그 손님들이 짙은 검정색 이태리 보르살리노 페도라 모자 등 적절한 요소를 갖춰 정통 유대교 랍비같이 옷을 입었다면, 여러분은 손님 중 한 명에서 “감사 기도”를 해달라고 청합니다. 8. 여러분이 식사를 하기 시작하면 여러분은 그들에게 좋은 포도주를 권하며 그들이 병을 따도록 합니다. (여러분은 그들이 정통 유대교 유대인임을 고려하고 있으나 여러분은 그들이 여러분이 누구인지 정확히 알고 있는 것인지 확신이 서지 않는다는 것을 분명히 하기 위해) 여러분은 가장 특출나게 보이는 손님에게 포도주병을 따도록 제안하는 것입니다! 9. 이쯤 되면 여러분은 그들이 누구이며, 그들이 뭘 원하는지, 그들의 용무가 뭔지, 방문 목적이 뭔지 몹시 알고 싶어져서 여러분이 몹시 궁금해한다는 낌새를 주면서 예의 바르지만 작은 질문을 합니다. 여러분은 “어디서 오셨습니까?”, “선생님들이 이 지역에 오신 특별한 용무가 있으신가요?”, “저희에게 특별히 하실 말씀이 있으시거나 제가 어떻게든 도움이 될 수 있을까요?” 묻습니다. 10. 그들이 마음을 터놓고 그들이 방문한 이유와 그들의 신분을 분명하고 자유롭게 밝히지 않아 여러분이 그 손님들에게 불편한 마음이 든다면, 여러분은 그들에게 가까운 힐튼호텔에 방을 예약해 거기서 묵으시면 어떻겠냐고 물을 것입니다. 11. 이렇게 되면 이 세 손님 중 한 명이 입을 열어 내년 이맘때 사라가 아기를 낳을 것이라고 알려 아브라함과 그의 아내 사라를 놀래켜야겠다고 마음 먹습니다. 이런 일은 매우 범상치 않기에 아브라함은 일어나서 그의 낡은 권총을 가져와 미지의 손님에게 그의 집을 떠나달라고 해야 하는지, 아니면 그와 그의 아내 사라가 나이 많고 사라는 한 번도 아이를 낳은 적이 없기에 이런 사실을 알려준 것에 고마워해야 하는지 갈피를 잡지 못합니다. 사라는 그 사람들이 말하는 것을 듣고는 킥킥 웃다 못해 스코틀랜드 연어잡이배처럼 키가 높은 소리로 크게 웃습니다. 사라의 웃음은 관용구가 되었고 언제나 “사라가 왜 웃었을까?”하는 의문이 제기됩니다. 사라의 웃음은 폐경한 나이 든 여자가 아이를 낳을 수 있겠나 하는 불신앙이었을까요? 어쩌면 사라는 검은 이탈리아 보르살리노 페도라 모자를 쓴 저 손님이 말한 것을 믿었기에 행복해서 웃는 웃음이었거나 어쩌면 근심 어린 긴장의 웃음이었을 수도 있습니다. 한 가지 언급하자면, 사람이 하나님으로부터 계시를 받을 때 종종 두 가지 반대되는 감정을 겪습니다. 한편으로 행복하고 다른 한편으로 근심스러워서 매우 두렵고 불안해지기도 합니다. 이쯤 되면 이탈리아 페도라 모자를 쓴 손님은 자신에게 말합니다. 다른 두 손님은 모자를 쓴 대장이 일어나 언덕 끝으로 걸어가 남동쪽에 있는 큰 도시 소돔을 바라보며 다음과 같이 말하는 것을 봅니다: “여호와께서 이르시되 내가 하려는 것을 아브라함에게 숨기겠느냐 아브라함은 강대한 나라가 되고 천하 만민은 그로 말미암아 복을 받게 될 것이 아니냐 내가 그로 그 자식과 권속에게 명하여 여호와의 도를 지켜 의와 공도를 행하게 하려고 그를 택하였나니 이는 나 여호와가 아브라함에게 대하여 말한 일을 이루려 함이니라 여호와께서 또 이르시되 소돔과 고모라에 대한 부르짖음이 크고 그 죄악이 심히 무거우니 내가 이제 내려가서 그 모든 행한 것이 과연 내게 들린 부르짖음과 같은지 그렇지 않은지 내가 보고 알려 하노라” (창세기 18:17-21) 이 점이 아브라함과 세 천사의 갑작스런 방문 이야기에서 가장 흥미진진하고 중요한 점 중 하나입니다: 그들 중 한 명은 바로 주(여호와), 하나님의 거룩한 네 글자 이름을 가지신 분이십니다! 어쨌든, 이 이야기에서 가장 중요하고 흥미진진한 점은 하나님께서 의로운 사람과 그분의 계획을 나눠야겠다는 의무감이 생기는 동역자관계를 가지고 계셨다는 것입니다. 이 점은 이스라엘의 가장 중요한 자산의 분명한 증거입니다. 그 중요한 자산은 바로 창조주와 아브라함의 씨, 유대민족 사이의 동역자관계이자 협력관계입니다! 이 동역자관계는, 저는 이것을 공동 사명이라고 말할 수 있을 것 같은데요, 이것은 인류를 존재하는 상태, 전능하신 우리 우주의 창조주와의 관계로 데려오는 것으로서, 설계자이며 창조주께서 창조자 본인의 형상과 본성과 성품으로 지으신 피조물인 우리가 이 지구상에 존재하는 가장 중요한 동기가 관여되는 것입니다. 이것은 누군가 위대한 예술가의 작품을 살필 때 자연스럽고 정상적으로 들립니다. 비평가는 종종 말합니다: “이것은 피카소 작품이군요. 그의 성격이 캔버스에 물감을 칠한 방식으로 표현된 것을 볼 수 있습니다!” 반 고흐의 그림을 보는 비평가는 “이것은 진짜 반 고흐 작품이군요. 그가 교회 건물 위로 짙은 푸른색 하늘을 그리고 전경에 싸이프러스 나무를 그릴 때 붓을 어떻게 말았는지 보이시죠!” 마찬가지로 창세기 토라 포션 “바예라”의 본문의 전능자의 계시는 제가 이해할 수 있는 것보다 훨씬 커서 제가 두 다리로 걷는 다른 포유류 동물보다 훨씬 더 약하고 약점이 있는 인간으로 느껴지게 만듭니다. 하나님께서는 여기 세 천사 이야기에서 그분께서 의로운 종들과 맺은 관계가 하나님의 선한 지구에 사는 우리 인간을 그냥 두 눈, 두 귀, 두 팔, 직립보행을 가능케 하는 두 다리를 가진 인간과는 다른 차원으로 데려간다는 것을 보여주십니다. 우리가 이 세상의 창조자이신 이스라엘의 전능하신 하나님과 관계를 맺고 있을 때, 우리는 그분과 함께 앉아 같은 접시에서 호무스와 구운 양고기를 함께 먹을 만큼 아주 가깝고 또 그 만큼 가까워질 수 있습니다! 이것이 제가 토라 포션 “바예라(그리고 그가 갑자기 나타나셨다)!”에서 얻는 교훈입니다. 그분께서는 두 천사, 아마 미가엘과 가브리엘과 함께 오셨습니다. 그들은 우리 모두에게 두 가지 계시를 주기 위해 아브람의 문을 두드렸습니다: 1) 우리 인간이 다른 사람과, 해질녘 서늘할 때 우리 집 문을 두드리는 낯선 사람과 어떻게 관계해야 할까요? 환대가 우리가 우리를 놀래키는 거룩한 방문자뿐만 아니라 그들이 진짜 누구인지도 모른 채 천사를 대접하게 되는 문화와 친절의 모습을 가진 누구에게든 사용할 수 있는 신성한 선물 중 하나입니다. 2) 우리는 의로운 인간이 우리 우주의 창조주 전능하신 하나님과 맺을 수 있는 특별한 관계에 대해 조금 이해할 수 있습니다. 이 관계는 피조물인 우리를 하늘에 계신 우리 아버지, 이스라엘의 전능하신 하나님과 연결시켜주고 묶어줍니다. 저는 솔직히 이번 안식일 토라 포션에 동전의 다른 면도 있다는 것을 말씀드려야 할 것 같습니다. 하나님의 진노의 잔이 가득차고 하나님께서 지구라고 불리는 이 구(球) 위에 있는 이 인간 동역자들에게 그분의 자비와 인내를 베푸실 더 이상의 이유나 선택지가 남아있지 않을 때 이런 불의한 사람들에게 무슨 일이 일어날 수 있고 일어날 것인가에 대한 것입니다. 가자지구에서 벌어지고 있는 하마스의 잔혹행위를 막아주시도록 하나님께 기도하고 간구해 주십시오. 오직 어리석은 한 가지 동기, 즉 이스라엘의 유대민족에 대한 순전한 미움과 비이성적인 분노가 동기인 이 미친 전쟁이 끝나도록 기도하고 중보해 주십시오. 비이성적인 미움의 이 미친 전쟁에서 아이들, 아들과 딸을 잃은 수천 가족을 위로할 방법을 찾아주시도록 창조주께 기도하여 간구해 주십시오. 지옥에서 비롯된 미움과 인종차별의 결과인 전쟁에서 당한 부상으로 고통 당하는 사람들을 수용할 입원실이 충분하지 않아 중동에 있는 병원들의 로비에 북적이는 수천의 부상당한 사람들을 위해 기도해 주십시오. 이 지역에 있는 나라들 정부가 선한 사람들이지만 진실에 눈먼 자국 국민에게 무엇이 유익한지 생각하기 시작하도록 기도해 주십시오. 우리는 이 분쟁의 양측 지도자들이 자기들을 부요하게 만들고 사람들을 계속해서 학대하고 그들의 자유를 제한할 방법을 찾을 수 있는 권력을 줄 금광으로서의 숲뿐만 아니라 개별 나무들도 보도록 기도해야 합니다. 우리는 우리 자신으로부터 우리를 구하고 우리를 우리 죄에서 깨끗케 하기 위해 예슈아를 보내주신 것에 대해 아브라함과 이삭과 야곱의 하나님께 감사해야 합니다. 우리는 또한 이 이스라엘 땅을 재건하고 회복시켜 모든 육체의 경배와 찬양을 받으실 유대인의 왕, 살아계신 하나님의 아들 예슈아의 재림에 준비되게 해주신 것에 대해서도 감사해야 합니다. 그리고 우리는 그분의 왕좌 앞에서 모세의 노래, 어린양의 노래를 부를 것입니다! 저는 매일 매시간 “주여 속히 오시옵소서 – 마라나타!” 말하고 싶습니다. ______________________________________________________________________ 친애하는 형제자매님들, 지금이 기도로 모두 함께 모일 때입니다! 특별히 이러한 끔찍한 상황을 가까이서 대처하는 모든 한 사람 한 사람을 위해 기도할 때입니다. 이스라엘이 지금 겪고 있는 이 전쟁으로 인해 고난 당하는 사람들에게 필요한 도움을 주기 위해 헌금을 할 준비가 되어 있고 하실 수 있는 모든 분들께 그렇게 하시기를 청합니다! 또한 여러분이 아시는 대로 마음에 이스라엘에 대한 마음이 있고 저희 병사들과 전선에 있는 민간인들을 지원하는데 참여하고 싶은 마음이 있는 다른 분들에게도 전해주시기를 권합니다. 이 글을 이스라엘 병사들을 돕고 싶어 하는 사람들에게 전해주시기 바랍니다! 후원하고 싶으시면 헌금 글자를 클릭하십시오.

저는 아직 군복무 중이거나 대부분 예비군인 저희 회중의 자녀들이 맹목적인 증오가 원동력인 테러주의자들로부터 이스라엘 민간인들을 보호하기 위해 무기를 들고 전쟁에 나가 싸워야 하는 것이 정말 싫습니다.

The Jerusalem Prayer List – November 2, 2023
by Joseph Shulam God’s Hospitality The reading this next Shabbat will be from Vayera (and He appeared) in the book of Genesis 18:1-22:24. From the Prophets the reading is from 2 King 4:1-37, and from the New Testament the reading is from Peter 3:1-7. Genesis chapter 18 starts with the following words: “Then the LORD appeared to him by the terebinth trees of Mamre, as he was sitting in the tent door in the heat of the day.” Just out of the blue, suddenly three angels appear, just walk up into the compound of Abraham’s camp. We need to remember from chapter 14 that Abraham’s compound (camp) had 318 men between the ages of 20-50. This makes a big camp and if these soldiers of Abraham had one wife each and one child it makes a camp with around 1000 people! When people talk about hospitality this is the text that they point to; Genesis chapter 18. Some say that one of the angels was THE LORD himself. The question that comes up from this Torah Portion is the following: Would Abraham be so hospitable and welcoming to these three strange guests who visited his tents without an earlier notification or announcement? If we wanted to learn about hospitality from this occasion in the Torah what would be the essentials? 1. People (men or angels) knock on your door – you look through the peephole and you see strangers, men who you have never seen before. What do you do? You open the door and say welcome! 2. The guests come into your tent or living room. You understand that they walked because you don’t see the fancy vehicle, car or chariot with which they came. You make them feel comfortable and wash their feet. 3. You rush into the kitchen and ask your wife if there is anything good to eat in the refrigerator. If the answer is “no dear there is nothing good or cooked and ready to serve our guests.” 4. If you have servants, you send them to the closest local grocery store and you tell them to buy some high-quality beef and bring it home as soon as possible. The next period is very important; you offer to wash their feet because it is not clear if they are Sephardic Jews or Ashkenazi Jews! If they are Sephardic Jews or Middle Eastern Jews they will agree and take off their shoes and socks and immediately be grateful for this act of kindness. If your surprising guests are Ashkenazim they will politely refuse to take off their shoes and socks and have you wash their feet. The point is that Abraham followed the rules of hospitality and honored the culture of his uninvited guests and didn’t impose foot washing on them. You can offer to wash their feet and may also anoint their feet with a special cream to relax from their journey. If they agree you ask one of your servants to bring the big bowl that is especially used for washing feet and also bring some towels. The point is that you do your best to welcome your guests and make them comfortable according to the customs of the time and place. 5. When the food arrives cooked to perfection and tasting delicious you serve the food to your guests and start a conversation with these three strangers that knocked on your door just a few hours ago! You make them comfortable with your conversation and because you are very anxious to find out who these men are and where they are coming from, you do your best to ask your questions carefully and gently masking your curiosity with proper, politically correct phrases like: Dear gentlemen, where are you coming from? Is there something specific that you are looking for in this visit to our camp? The food is cooking and the smell is getting stronger and you have already had some tea or coffee, maybe a fresh orange juice also? 6. The food is ready and your wife or one of your butlers brings the food on a big round stainless-steel tray. 7. If your guests are dressed like Orthodox Jewish Rabbis with all the proper elements like a serious Italian black Borsalino fedora hat, you offer one of the guests to say “Grace” – pray for the food! 8. As you start eating and drinking the good wine that you offered them, allow them to open the bottle (to make sure that you are taking into account that they are Orthodox Jews and you are not sure that they understand exactly who you are) that is why you offer the most distinguished-looking guest to open the bottle of wine! 9. At this point you are already so anxious to know who they are what they want and what is their business and purpose of the visit that you start giving some hints of anxiety and curiosity and asking small but polite questions. You ask, “Where are you from?” – “Is there some specific business that has brought you here to our region?” — “Do you have something particular to share with us or can I help you in any way?” 10. If you feel uncomfortable with your guests because they are not opening up and sharing the reason for their visit and their identity in a free and non-assuming fashion, you ask them if they would like for you to make a reservation in the nearest Hilton Hotel for the night. 11. In this case one of the three guests decided to open his mouth and surprise Abraham and Sarah his wife by announcing that by this time next year Sarah, his wife, will have a baby. This is highly unusual and Abraham probably can’t decide whether or get up and get his old shotgun and ask his unknown guest to leave the house or be thankful for this announcement since both he and Sarah his wife are old and Sarah has never given birth to a child. Sarah hears the men talking and giggles and even laughs out loud with her voice that has a high pitch like a Scottish Salmon boat. Sarah’s laughing becomes an idiom and the question is always “Why did Sarah laugh?” Was Sarah’s laughter unbelief that an old woman way past her menopause could give birth to a child? Maybe Sarah was laughing because she believed what that guest with the black Italian Borsalino Fedora said and her laughter was a laughter of happiness or maybe of anxious nervousness. Comment: often when a person receives revelation from God, he also contends with two opposite emotions: On the one hand he is happy and on the other hand he is anxious and on the border of deep fear and anxiety. At this point, the guest with the Italian fedora speaks to himself. The other two guests see the big guy with the hat get up and walk to the edge of the hill looking southeast toward Sodom, the big city, and say: “Shall I hide from Abraham what I am doing, since Abraham shall surely become a great and mighty nation, and all the nations of the earth shall be blessed in him? For I have known him, in order that he may command his children and his household after him, that they keep the way of the LORD, to do righteousness and justice, that the LORD may bring to Abraham what He has spoken to him.” And the LORD said, “Because the outcry against Sodom and Gomorrah is great, and because their sin is very grave, I will go down now and see whether they have done altogether according to the outcry against it that has come to Me; and if not, I will know.” (Genesis 18:16-21 NKJV) This point is one of the most fascinating and important points in the story of Abraham and his surprise visit by three angels; one of them is named THE LORD, with the Tetragrammaton, the four letters of the Holy Name of God! However, the most important and fascinating point of this narrative is that God has a partnership, a relationship, that obligates Him to share His plan with righteous human beings. This point is clear evidence of one of Israel’s most important assets; and that is a partnership and a cooperation between the CREATOR HIMSELF and the SEED OF ABRAHAM, the Jewish nation! This partnership and, I could say, a joint mission, to bring the human being to a state of existence and relationship with the Almighty Creator of our Universe involves some of the most pressing existential motives of our existence here on this Earth as creatures created in the form and nature and character of the designer and creator Himself. This sounds natural and regular when one examines the work of certain great artists. The critic will often say, “This is a Picasso, you see his very character is expressed by the way he lays the paint onto the canvas!” The critic who looks at a Van Gogh painting would and could say, “This is a real Van Gogh because you see how he curled his brush when he is painting the dark blue sky over the church building and the Cyprus tree in the foreground!” The same thing is true and the revelation of the Almighty in this text of Genesis Vayera Torah portion is so much greater than I can understand it and it makes me feel like a human being with normal weaknesses and shortcomings so much more than another mammal animal walking on two legs. God demonstrates here in this story of the three angels, a relationship to His righteous servants that take us, the human beings living on God’s good earth, to a different stage than just intelligent mammals with two eyes, two ears, and two front limbs and two back limbs, that make it possible to walk erect. When we are in a relationship with the Almighty God of Israel, the creator of this World, we are and we can become so close to Him that we can sit together and eat humus or roast lamb without hands from the same plate! This is what I get from this portion of Vayera “And suddenly He appeared!” He came with two angles, maybe Michael and Gabriel. They knocked on Abrams’ gate in order to give all of us two distinct revelations: 1) How we as humans need to relate to other humans, strangers knocking on our doors in the cool of the evening in a sun-set hour. Hospitality is one of these divine gifts that we use not only with divine visitors who surprise us but with anyone who has the visage of kindness and culture that we ought to entertain angels without being aware of who they really are! 2) We can understand a little about the special relationship that righteous humans can have with the almighty God the creator of our Universe. This relationship connects and ties us, the created with our Father in Heaven the Almighty God of Israel. I must confess that in our reading this Shabbat there is also the other side of the coin and that is what can happen and will happen to the unrighteousness of men when the cup of God’s wrath is full and there is no more reason or options left for God to show His mercy and His patience with these human partners on this ball called Earth. Pray and beg God to stop the atrocities of Hamas that are going on in the GAZA strip. Pray and intercede for the end of this senseless war that is motivated by only one stupid motive and that is pure hate and irrational anger against the Jewish nation of Israel. Pray and ask the Creator to find ways to comfort the thousands of families who have lost children and sons and daughters in this senseless war of irrational hate. Pray for the thousands of wounded people who are crowding the halls of the hospitals in the Middle East because there is not enough room to house those suffering from the wounds of war, the products of hate and racism from hell! Pray that the governments in this part of the world start thinking of what is good for their citizens, blinded by reality, good people. We must pray for the leadership on all sides in this conflict to see the individual trees and not only look at the forest as a gold mine to make them rich and give them the power to continue to abuse the people and seek ways to limit their freedoms. We must/should be thankful to the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, for sending Yeshua to save us from our own selves and clean us from our sins. We should also be grateful for rebuilding and restoring this land of Israel and preparing it for the return of the King of the Jews, Yeshua the Son of the Living God who will be worshiped and praised by all living flesh, and sing the song of Moses and the song of the Lamb in front of His royal throne! I want to say every day and every hour, LORD Come Quickly – MARANA – TA! ______________________________________________________________________ Dear brothers and sisters, now is the time! Let us come together in prayer especially for each and every person who is dealing up close with this horrible situation. We invite each and every person who is ready and able to give to please do so, for the purpose of providing necessary aid to those suffering from the war that Israel is experiencing right now! Pray for our soldiers and especially for the soldiers that we know and appreciate: Yuda, Emanuel the son of Victor and Ayala, Amiel and Solomon and Ezekiel Intrater, Reuven and Clil Kovner, and any other children of Believers and of course for all of the men and women serving this country.
We need to pray that this continues to be the case. We need to pray for the World to understand and see that Israel is dealing with people who are not interested in peace. They are radical Islamists who are only driven by hate for Israel and for Jews and peace is the last thing on their minds.
Our government was holding back for months from opening this Pandora’s box and getting rid of the terrorists that are not only killing Jews and terrorizing the peaceful Israeli population, but also preventing their own people from working in Israel in good paying jobs provides honorable living for their families.
I hate that our boys, the men of our congregation, still serve in the Army and most of them in reserves have to fight and use weapons and do war in order to protect the civilian population of Israel from terrorism driven by hate and blindness.
Please pray for the Middle East and for the world to see and understand what the reality is here in this part of the world. The land that provided King David, and the prophets and Yeshua the Messiah – wants peace with our neighbors.
But they don’t want the hand that is stretched out in peace. They want to kill all the Jews and take their land, which is flourishing and a blessing for all the world, and make it a dump like their own place in Gaza and in the Arab countries.

Please pray for people in the prayer list: as you can see, we pray for people in every continent, because we have brothers and sisters around the world, and our interest is not only for ourselves, but for God’s people in the north and south, east and west, even in the far islands of the oceans. There is power in the prayers of those people who have a global interest for God’s Light to come from Zion and reach the darkest corners of God’s Earth.

Pray for the congregations related to Netivyah in Brazil, to have the strength and stamina to face the challenges in front of them with courage and strength of faithfulness to the Lord, and to the vision of the restoration of the church and Israel.
Pray for the millions of victims of the Spanish and Portuguese Inquisition who have been forced to convert to the Catholic church, and now want to return home to the land of Israel and to the faith of our fathers.
Pray for the state of Israel to open the doors for these lost Jews to be able to return and fulfill God’s promises to the prophet Ovadyah:

Dear Friends and brothers and sisters, Ruby Little is and was one of the biggest women in her lifetime! She was the mythogical secretary of Dr. J.P. Sanders as the dean of Pepperdine University and continued to be his secretary as the president of Columbia Christian College in Portland, Oragon. Moved to Jerusalem and was the secretary of Netivyah during the very difficult years of the formation of the pioneering ministry and movement that encompasses the whole world. Without Ruby I have serious doubts that Netivyah would have reached the wide spread international ministry that it is today. Ruby was a quiet person but had enough iron in her to contend with the South Pacific railroad. Her wisdom and her strength both served and motivated others around her to serve. God bless her and use her talents in heaven! I am sure that even in heaven Ruby will not just seat under a palm tree and count the birds that fly overhead! God bless Ruby Little’s soul eternally! Ruby you are a real big sister to so many people that you served and encouraged!

Steve Mock - His cognitive condition has declined, and we ask for the grace of God and His Healing and strength. Steve and Josie’s son Joseph - named after Joseph Shulam – has received a wonderful and glorious report. After the last bone marrow transplant the report is that the doctors didn’t find any leukemia his body! Praise the Lord!

We ask you to join us in prayer that the right young people, talented and anointed by the Spirit of God will come and work with us, and the provision to pay the Netivyah workers a fair and just payment.
I pray that the Lord will inspire and motivate brothers and sisters and ministries who can help with this to visit here and do what they can to make it possible for us to double or more than double, the number of people and families that we serve.
