우리는 토라 읽기의 한 바퀴를 다 돌고 끝으로 다가가고 있습니다. 그것은 우리가 이번 안식일에 나팔절을 지키기 때문입니다. 이 날은 유대력의 로쉬 하샤나(히브리어로 새해)이기도 합니다.

이스라엘이 회개했을 때나 모세가 들어 올렸던 놋뱀을 바라보았을 때, 그들은 치유 받았습니다. 물론, 우리는 모세 때처럼 놋뱀이 필요하지는 않지만, 우리의 눈을 들어 그 무엇도 아닌 우리 주 예슈아께 초점을 맞출 필요가 있습니다.
이것이 의미하는 것은 우리의 믿음을, 메시아의 몸을 분열시켰고 또 다시 분열되었으며 우리의 믿음의 중심을 십자가에 달리신 분으로부터 교회 제도로 돌려버린 교단/교파가 아닌, 메시아의 복음에 다시 맞추라는 것입니다.
저는 하나님의 말씀에 나타난 다른 모든 전염병과 마찬가지로 이 전염병도 하나님으로부터 왔고 하나님에 의해 멈춰질 수 있다고 믿습니다.
우리 영적 지도자들이 우리를 회개로, 죄와 허물을 고백하는 데로 이끌고 지적하여, 주님께서 이 코로나바이러스를 이 땅에서 거두시고 우리가 주님을 기억하며 그분의 의와 진리의 길로 걸어가게 하도록 우리 모두 기도하며 격려합시다.

The Jerusalem Prayer List – September 17, 2020
by Joseph Shulam, Jerusalem, Israel We are approaching the end of the reading cycle of the Torah. That is because this Shabbat we are celebrating the Feast of Trumpets that is also the traditional Jewish Rosh Hashanah or New Year in Hebrew. This is not the Biblical New Year. That new year actually starts with the first month, or Nissan – the month that Passover is celebrated. This Jewish New Year is actually on the first day of the Seventh Hebrew Month – Tishrei. The Biblical holiday on this date (the first of Tishrei) is the Feast of Trumpets. Why is Israel commanded to blow the trumpet (Shofar) on the first day of the seventh month? The blowing of the trumpets is traditionally a call to war, a wakeup call for the nation to mobilize for war. What war ought to start on the first day of the seventh month? The biggest spiritual war in all of Biblical History – the war against Baalim, the Canaanite god of winter, rain, thunder, and lighting, Baal. The rainy season also starts around this time of the year. Almost every year the first rain starts between Rosh Hashanah and the feast of Tabernacles (Sukkot). In Canaanite mythology Asherah, the wife of El (the father of the gods in Canaanite and Amorite religions), and the mother of Baal goes down to Hell (The Abyss) to resurrect Baal. It all happens on the first day of the seventh month. That is why the Lord commanded Israel on this very day to blow the trumpets as a symbolic act and declaration of war against the paganism of our neighbors. When the Jews were in exile in Babylon for 70 years and they came back with Ezra and Nehemiah they brought with them the Babylonian calendar and adopted the Babylonian date for the New Year. So, that is why we have the Jewish New Year on the first day of the 7th month. The Torah Portion for this Shabbat is chapter 31 of Deuteronomy. A very short Torah reading, but it has some important teaching for older leaders like myself and others. As important as it is for the younger leaders to rise up to the task, but to remember their youth and inexperience. It is also important for the older leaders to remember that they have run their course and have carried the people across the wilderness while helping them to grow and feeding them, and providing water out of the rock, as it were. And now it is time to allow the next generation of leaders to wet their feet on Jordan’s stormy banks, and maybe it is not for them (the old leaders) to cross into new territory. It’s as it was with Moses, who begged God to allow him to cross the Jordan river into the land of Canaan – the land that was promised to Abraham and to his seed forever. Here is the part in this week’s reading, where Moses presents his apologetic, at the end of his long speech. “Then Moses went and spoke these words to all Israel. And he said to them: ‘I am one hundred and twenty years old today. I can no longer go out and come in. Also the Lord has said to me, “You shall not cross over this Jordan.” The Lord your God Himself crosses over before you; He will destroy these nations from before you, and you shall dispossess them. Joshua himself crosses over before you, just as the Lord has said. And the Lord will do to them as He did to Sihon and Og, the kings of the Amorites and their land, when He destroyed them.’” – Deuteronomy 31:1-4 [NKJV] When I first read this text my first question was with regard to the beginning of this chapter, “Then Moses went and spoke…” When is the “Then” and where was Moses that he had to go and speak to the people? The significance of this whole book of Deuteronomy is that its setting is Moses’ last major speech, just before he goes up to Mt. Nebo (Pisgah) from which he does not return – Moses dies on the mountain. The manuscript of Deuteronomy from Qumran (the Dead Sea Scroll) reads like this: “When Moses had finished speaking these things.” The picture presented here in this chapter is that Moses is trying hard to do two things at the same time. He is trying to emerge graciously from this unpleasant moment when all of Israel will be crossing the Jordan River into the land of Canaan, but he will be climbing a mountain, never to return as the leader of the nation of Israel that was born in the Sinai wilderness during 40 years of wandering. How does a leader like Moses step down graciously, while keeping his head up high? First Moses presents Joshua to the public as the next leader of Israel, appointed both by God and by Moses. Second, Moses promises that God is going with them and will guide them and fight their wars. Third, Moses assures the people of Israel that they have nothing to fear because the Lord will be leading them as they possess the land that He promised to the nation’s fathers. The next thing that God reveals to Moses is the sad future history of Israel, their disobedience and their rebelling against God and turning to worship idols, and God’s anger that will cause him to hide his face from Israel and send them out of the land into exile, only to return them back to the land where he will reveal himself to the nation… We have here in a few verses, in a nutshell, the whole history of Israel. What is the significance of this chapter in the grand scheme of Biblical history? Any way you view this chapter (either through the eyes of modern and postmodern scholars or through the traditional orthodox view), the revelation that Moses receives at this very hard and difficult moment, is both prophetic and difficult. God is telling the man Moses that this nation that he has nursed for 40 years in the wilderness is going to depart from God and worship idols and that the anger of the Lord will force them out of the land into exile. This must be hard for a leader like Moses to accept, but at a time when he must be experiencing much anger, being upset that his life’s work is not going to succeed and that his investment in the people will not hold for a very long period of time and that the nation of Israel will be worshiping idols, the Lord however tells him, that yes, the nation will go through a hard time and He will hide His face from them, but in the end it will all work out and they will return to God, and He will return them to the land. Marcia and I, having invested more than 50 years in Netivyah, have now turned the leadership of Netivyah and of the Roeh Israel (Shepherd of Israel) congregation over into the hands of younger men who were born into and raised in these ministries, as it was with Joshua the son of Nun to whom Moses transferred the leadership of the Hebrew nation. There is a very important lesson to be learned here, and that is that generations come and generations go, and it is the responsibility of each generation of leaders to start as early as possible to prepare the next generation of leaders and to make sure that they are better than the previous generation of leaders. In the dynamic culture of today’s world with rapid changes in both technology and culture, it is only possible to raise up a new generation of leaders, if they are singled out long before they are needed. The Lord led me fifteen years ago through a Japanese brother to start training and preparing the current generation of leaders. Now, praise the Lord, we have wonderful leaders that are doing a great job of leading and of teaching and serving the community of Jewish disciples of Yeshua in our congregation and through Netivyah, and even outside of our congregation. There is much to be learned from the history of Moses and of the children of Israel in the wilderness, about leadership and about preparing the next generation. Why is this important to Christians around the world? First, the development of leadership has become mechanical – men choose to become “preachers” or “pastors” and church leaders, and they go to school and become professional “men of god.” The way I wrote it is not a mistake – this is how I wanted to write it, not with capital letters. Second, leadership in the churches is purchased and not nurtured. It is okay to pay a preacher and other positions of leadership for their work. It is not good or right for those paid to do the work of “preachers” or “pastors,” to put their job security and salary in the balance when their first commitment should be as servants of God and leaders of God’s people. This is the lesson that I have learned from this reading of the Torah.
We must pray for the whole world and each of us for his own country and to add Israel. I believe that this coronavirus is a plague like all the biblical plagues that God sent to educate Israel and to restore them to a better relationship with Him, and to have greater respect for their creator.
When Israel repented or looked at the brass snake that Moses lifted up, they received healing. Of course, we don’t need a brass serpent like in the days of Moses, but we do need to lift up our eyes and focus on Yeshua our Lord and on nothing else.
What this means is that there is need for a refocusing of our faith onto the Gospel of the Messiah and not on the denominations that have divided and divided again the Body of the Messiah and have diverted the focus of our faith from the one that was crucified to the institution of the church.
I believe that this plague like every other plague in the Word of God comes from God and can be stopped by God.
Let us all pray and encourage our spiritual leaders to lead and to point us toward repentance and to confession of our sins and weaknesses, so that the Lord will lift this coronavirus from off of this earth and we will remember the Lord and seek to walk in His paths of righteousness and truth.
Please keep praying for Marcia’s health, her memory, diabetes, and rheumatoid arthritis. Danah our daughter needs much prayer for her situation as does our granddaughter Noaam. Please lift Danah and Noaam in your prayers. Please lift Barry our son and his family, Beth, and Joey our grandson who are also staying at home and working from home during this time. Marcia’s mother June is 91 years old and her health is failing.
Brazil is in bad shape with the coronavirus and the problems of the business community, and the social unrest is also a major challenge. We have so many brothers and sisters in Brazil that need our prayers and intercession on their behalf.
Here is a short list of communities and brothers and sisters in Brazil who need our prayers and God’s grace in these hard times: Pray for the sister communities of Netivyah in Brazil, Har Zion, Ensenando de Siao, and Sar-El in Curitiba and other brothers and sisters in the city of Curitiba.
There is another congregation of brothers and sisters in Curitiba led by brother Claus and brother Moses, please pray for these dear brothers also and for the Messianic congregations in Fortaleza, Santa Maria, Sao Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, and in other cities in Brazil. Pray for our dear older and more vulnerable brothers and partners in Brazil, Michelle O., the Marcelo Guimaraes family and especially for his father, Paulo, and for Marty Galante, and for the Resende family.
I am also asking you to pray for TJ who is the pastor of the congregation in Taiwan.
Keep Ruby Little in your prayers, our dear sister from Oklahoma City, who is also battling against cancer. Lift up in prayer the following brothers and sisters:
Samuel Lopes, a 17-year-old boy who is going through an extremely hard time. His father and mother are extremely upset that He is not walking with the Lord and I heard from his father he has joined with friends who are far from the paths of righteousness.
Pray for Rachael and Daniel, a brother and sister who need jobs and emotional healing.
Lift these brothers and sisters in your prayers: Angela Isby, Aries Franklin Mayers Sr., and Tony Black. Keep praying for Nancy, Don and their son Aaron Hook, Rachel David Kim’s wife – Jingyung Lee, Dr. Yuizawa, Tiz H., Lion H., Michael Schiffman, Joe Mays, Ilana Abramov, Cynthia Parveen’s sister, David Stern and his family, and Anne West who is now 100 years old. Keep praying for Gary, and Melanie.
Remember the following brothers and sisters from the Roeh Israel Congregation in Jerusalem; Sarit, Gabriela, Ahuva, Leah, Ilana, Hannah, young Gabriela, Zvi D. and Bathsheba, Jonathan B. and his wife Aviva and their baby, and pray for Sister Yoko Nagumo in Japan. Sister Yoko had a stroke and we pray that her recovery will be quick and complete.
From Chennai, India, please remember Pastor Isaac. From Hong Kong, remember all of Hong Kong during these days of several different kinds of viruses and the coronavirus. Remember Tony and Louisa Tam, and our brothers and sisters at the 611 Church, and the other churches who love God and love Israel in that great city.
Just a word of grace before the mercy seat of the Almighty will be heard in favor of these brothers and Um Mahmud Abu-Eid and Jimmy Abu-Eid and his family, Keijo and Salme our dear brothers in Finland, Tim Tucker, Satu-Maria, Sinni Tuuli. Our brother in Finland Erki Murto is gone. Erki passed from this world a few days ago. Please let us keep Sirpa, Erki’s widow in our prayer.
May the Lord comfort her and consul her in these hours of sorrow and grief. Also pray for our other brothers and sisters in Finland who need our prayers, Evelina, and Eva H., Patty, Andrea, Julia and Victor, and Aaron Tani, and Hillel and his wife.
Around the whole world, we pray for Zhou Wenrian and the Abe family, for Toru, Takeo Sensei, Daisuke Sensei, Tomoko San, Yumi and her father Pastor Ohara, George, and Pastor Isaac in Chennai, India, and for Louisa, and Tony in Hong Kong.
I have just received a prayer request from a dear sister from Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Her father who is 70 years old and diabetic has contracted the COVID-19 virus. His name is Paulo C. Pereira Braga Dias. He is in the hospital and his condition is very challenging. Please join us in lifting Paulo C. Pereira Braga Dias in your prayers.
Please see your prayer as casting a vote for healing before the Lord and His angels in Heaven in favor of every brother and sister that you are praying for. Just a word of grace for all of us is a refreshing spirit. Take your prayers before the mercy seat of the Almighty to be heard in favor of those that you are lifting in prayer.
Please add to your prayers the family of Um Mahmud Abu-Eid and Jimmy their son. I believe that this is a good thing for us to pray for friends and acquaintances who are Muslims. It is an act of love and reconciliation to carry before the throne of mercy those dear people who are seeking peace and righteousness looking toward the Lord for mercy and healing.
I am adding to the prayer list the daughter of one of my important university professors, Allison Howard Williams, she is the daughter of Patsy Wilkerson Howard, and Dr. George Howard who was one of my favorite and most important Bible teachers.
Keep praying for Guilherme Antonio Nathan Becker and his wife Artuza de Oliviera, also add Rachael and Daniel Webster and Lizette Nancy, and Jose Carlos from Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
By praying for people who are your brothers and sisters, and whom you do not know personally, you are exercising the right to be God’s ambassador in what is called “agape love.” “Agape love” is the highest form of love, a love that does not look for earthly rewards or give and take, but just does the service of intercession in the kingdom of God.
You will be blessed by the almighty God who gives each of His children good for the good we do and recompense for the bad we do. Your sincere prayers for people around the world do the following things for the Kingdom, the King, and for the body of the Messiah:
1. They unite you and the body in a major transcendent bond of prayer.
2. They demonstrate the oneness of the people of God.
3. Your prayer shows that there are people outside the realm of the physical world and personal interests who have a sincere bond and relationship that is heavenly and not earthly.
4. The Lord knows His children and gives credit and reward according to His promises.

Ahuva. Please pray for a dear brother who is well into his 90’s and lost his wife a couple of weeks ago. His name is Dov H.
Pray for Israel. We are going through terrible riots and violence in the streets of Jerusalem and Tel-Aviv and other places around the country. These riots are motivated by the fact that much of the populace of Israel does not understand what the government is doing in relationship to the coronavirus pandemic.
Businesses are closing and bankruptcy is happening to old established companies and businesses and even our national airline is on the verge of bankruptcy. People do not have money to put food on their tables. The number of people in need of basic food is growing.
Netivyah has been feeding the poor of Jerusalem for more than 25 years and we have a highly appreciated humanitarian ministry that is working with the Jerusalem municipality. As the demands for food for people who never before needed such help grows, I pray that the Lord will inspire and motivate brothers and sisters and ministries who can help with this to go to the webpage: www.netivyah.org and do what they can to make it possible for us to double or more than double, the number of people and families that we serve.
Our prime minister’s case is still before the courts. I am not happy that this is happening in Israel, but I am praying that true justice and righteousness is exhibited in our court system. The truth must come out and I am not interested in a second prime minister of Israel going to jail. We have had a president in jail, a finance minister in jail, a minister of interior affairs in jail, and a member of the parliament in jail. Enough!

Anarchist elements have taken the center of Portland, OR, and turned it into chaos, and disorder. So, please pray for Portland, OR, and for our brothers and sisters in that city.
The coronavirus is threatening the economy of the world with a great recession and depression. Some of our major supporters have already lowered the amount of their support. They have done this not only toward Netivyah, but for all the ministries that they are supporting, and they are many. I would like to first ask you to pray about your part in supporting Netivyah Bible Instruction Ministry.
Second, I would like for you who stand with us in prayer and financially to do your absolute best to stay on board with us and communicate. We realize that times will be hard for several years, but we also realize that God has chosen and blessed you for such a time as this.
Third please pray for a new project that we are starting in Israel in partnership with the Houses for Healing ministry from Abilene, Texas.
The aim is to provide hospitality for families of critically ill patients who are hospitalized in one of Jerusalem’s hospitals and who have no means to stay in hotels while their family members are in the hospitals.
This is a critical need especially in these days when there are hundreds of men and women who are in the Coronavirus ICU units for weeks and even months.
We need your prayer and your help to make this a meaningful and significant blessing both to the sick and to their families.
I wish all of you, who stand with Israel and who pray for Jerusalem, the best of the Lord’s blessings and the fulfillment of all His promises to His faithful children. Those who hear God and do His will are the ones who are called wise! Those who only hear His word and don’t do it are called foolish! Let us all strive to be wise and never foolish!
