예루살렘 기도 목록 – 2020년 7월 23일
요셉 슐람, 이스라엘 예루살렘
코로나바이러스는 아직 끝나지 않았습니다. 남미 전역에서 죽음의 사자가 날마다 수십만의 생명을 거둬가고 있습니다. 의료기관들은 이 무서운 팬데믹 전염병 재앙을 돌볼 장비도 인력도 병실도 고갈되었습니다.
반면에 영국 옥스퍼드, 미국, 중국, 이스라엘에서는 백신 개발에 진전이 있다는 보고가 있습니다. 우리는 모두 선하신 주님께서 백신 개발에 힘쓰고 있는 과학자들을 인도해 주시고 영감을 주시고 방향을 지도해 주시고 지혜를 주시도록 기도해야 합니다. 인류에 가해진 이 끔찍한 재앙은 중국 우한에서 사람이 만들어낸 것입니다. 하나님께서 중국을 긍휼히 여기시기를! 한편, 이 재앙이 가증한 법과 행습과 부도덕과 우리 호모 사피엔스 인류가 하나님과 그분의 법을 대적하여 범한 자연의 오용 때문에 하나님으로부터 온 것이라면, 우리는 모두 회개하고 만물의 주님께 긍휼과 은혜와, 우리 메시아 하나님의 아들 예슈아의 조속한 재림을 간구해야 합니다. 사도 바울이 아주 분명히 말한 것과 같이: “피조물이 다 이제까지 함께 탄식하며 함께 고통을 겪고 있는 것을 우리가 아느니라 그뿐 아니라 또한 우리 곧 성령의 처음 익은 열매를 받은 우리까지도 속으로 탄식하여 양자 될 것 곧 우리 몸의 속량을 기다리느니라…이와 같이 성령도 우리의 연약함을 도우시나니 우리는 마땅히 기도할 바를 알지 못하나 오직 성령이 말할 수 없는 탄식으로 우리를 위하여 친히 간구하시느니라.” – 로마서 8:22,23,26 사도 바울의 이 말씀의 “탄식”이라는 단어를 생각해 보시기 바랍니다. 이것은 고통과 고난과 갈망과 기대의 의미를 전달하는 아주 센 단어입니다. 메시아의 몸인 우리는 우리 하나님께서 주신 임무를 회복해야 합니다. 교회들은 자기중심적이 되어 각자의 교단 안에 각자의 신학 무덤에 묻혔습니다. 종교는 너무 많고 믿음은 너무 적습니다. 자신의 어깨에 우리 죄를 짊어지신 갈릴리의 유대인보다 데일 카네기와 노만 빈센트 필에게 더 가깝습니다. 제 친구들 중 어떤 사람들은 제가 너무 요셉 슐람스러워진다고 비난할지 모르지만, 사도 바울의 이 말을 다시 한 번 생각해 보시기 바랍니다: “그러므로 내가 첫째로 권하노니 모든 사람을 위하여 간구와 기도와 도고와 감사를 하되 임금들과 높은 지위에 있는 모든 사람을 위하여 하라 이는 우리가 모든 경건과 단정함으로 고요하고 평안한 생활을 하려 함이라.” – 디모데전서 2:1,2 이제 이번 안식일 토라 포션으로 가자면, 지난 주 안식일에 우리는 민수기를 끝냈고 이제 신명기를 시작합니다. 헬라어로 “듀테로”는 두 번째라는 뜻이고, “노모스”는 법이라는 뜻입니다. 짤게 말해, 히브리어를 제외한 다른 언어에서 “듀터로노미(신명기)”는 “토라(율법)를 두 번째 줌”이라는 뜻입니다. 이번 안식일에 우리는 신명기 1:1~3:22를 읽고, 선지자의 글에서는 이사야 1:1-27, 신약성경에서는 디모데전서 3:1-7을 읽습니다. 이 말씀들 모두 정서적으로도 영적으로도 지적으로도 소화하기 힘듭니다. 예슈아를 제외하고, 하나님의 백성의 가장 위대한 선지자이며 지도자인 모세를 생각해 봅시다. 그는 이스라엘 자손을 속박과 종살이에서 데리고 나오는데 그의 생애 중 80년을 투자했습니다. 그는 인류 역사상 가장 호사스러운 왕궁 중 하나에서 40년 동안 애굽 왕자로 살았습니다. 럭셔리어스(호사스러운)라는 단어는 모세가 길러진 바로의 왕궁이 있었던 룩소르라는 도시에서 유래했습니다. 여러분이 이집트를 가보신 적이 없다면, 저는 코로나바이러스가 해결되고 세계 경제도 안정된 다음 몇 년 내로 네티비야가 계획하고 있는, 이스라엘, 그리스, 터키, 요르단, 이집트의 학계 권위자들과 함께 하는 기도와 연구의 특별 그랜드 투어에 참여해 보시도록 제안합니다. 그 때쯤 시리아와 레바논이 열리면 저희는 이 나라들도 포함시켜야 할 것입니다. 이것은 첫째 이 나라들과 그 국민의 구원을 위해 기도하는 21일간의 그랜드 투어가 될 것입니다. 둘째 이것은 이 나라들의 역사를 기념하고 그 역사 속에 움직이시는 하나님의 손을 보는 투어가 될 것입니다. 셋째 이것은 세상의 이 지역에서 시작되었고 세상의 이 지역에서 끝날 인류 역사 속에 역사하신 하나님의 역사에 대해 감화하고 교육하고 기념하기 위한 것입니다. 저는 앞에 말한 모든 것 외에도, 참여하는 각 사람에게 유대인과 모든 이방인의 왕이신 예슈아 왕과 그분의 영원한 나라를 위한 제자를 삼도록 격려하고 자극이 될 것이라고 말씀드리겠습니다. 이제 (토라 포션으로 다시 와서) 모세는 40년 동안 룩소르에서 자랐습니다. 그런 다음 그는 애굽 사람들이 할 수 있는 한 가장 가증한 일로 여기는 양치기를 하며 40년을 보냈습니다. 그의 생애에 마지막 40년은 수십만의 오합지졸, 네, 약 200만 명의 옛-노예를 이끌고 세상에서 가장 척박한 광야 중 하나인 시내 광야를 지나갑니다. 지금 모세는 느보산에 올라 육신의 죽음을 맞으려고 합니다. 신명기는 모세가 이스라엘 백성과 세상에 하는 마지막이면서 가장 긴 연설입니다. 신명기는 처음부터 슬프고 끝도 슬픕니다. 이 책은 슬프지만 아주 중요합니다. 슬픔은 우리의 것이 아니고, 모세의 것입니다 – 다음 주에 읽는 “바엩하난”이라는 단어로 시작하는 토라 포션에서 그는 주님께 간구합니다: “그 때에 내가 여호와께 간구하기를 주 여호와여 주께서 주의 크심과 주의 권능을 주의 종에게 나타내시기를 시작하셨사오니 천지간에 어떤 신이 능히 주께서 행하신 일 곧 주의 큰 능력으로 행하신 일 같이 행할 수 있으리이까 구하옵나니 나를 건너가게 하사 요단 저쪽에 있는 아름다운 땅, 아름다운 산과 레바논을 보게 하옵소서 하되 여호와께서 너희 때문에 내게 진노하사 내 말을 듣지 아니하시고 내게 이르시기를 그만해도 족하니 이 일로 다시 내게 말하지 말라.” – 신명기 3:23-26 이 모세가 주님께서 친히 그분의 신격을 드러내 보여주신 바로 그 모세라는 점을 생각해 보시기 바랍니다: “여호와께서 구름 가운데에 강림하사 그와 함께 거기 서서 여호와의 이름을 선포하실새 여호와께서 그의 앞으로 지나시며 선포하시되 여호와라 여호와라 자비롭고 은혜롭고 노하기를 더디하고 인자와 진실이 많은 하나님이라.” – 출애굽기 34:5-6 저는 모세가 40년 동안 들어가길 기다린 그 땅에 들어가지 못한 것이 슬픕니다. 그런데 저는 그가 “자비롭고 은혜롭고 노하기를 더디하시는…” 이스라엘의 주 하나님으로부터 받은 그 대답 때문에 더 슬픕니다. 만약 주님께서 제가 오랫동안 그것을 위해 애쓰며 일한 뭔가를 저에게 거절하신다면 저는 어떨까요? 여러분은 어떨 것 같으십니까? 저의 슬픔은 제가 혈과 육의 종일뿐이며 하나님께서 주인이시며 아버지시며 우주의 창조주시라는 사실을 제가 알고, 그분께서 무엇이 옳고 그르며 저에게 무엇이 최선인지를 아신다는 것을 믿기에 경감됩니다. 이것이 유일한 경감 요인이며, 모세에게 충분히 선했고, 하나님께서 우리에게 “안 돼!”라고 말씀하실 때 우리에게도 충분히 선한 것이어야 합니다. (일 년 중 봄에 모압 광야에서, 에어컨도 없고, 필시 의자나 벤치가 아니라 땅 바닥에 앉아 연설하는데 최소 세 시간이 걸릴) 모세의 연설의 마지막 부분. 그 마지막도 매우 슬픈데요, 신명기 시작 부분보다 훨씬 더 슬픕니다. 모세가 죽으러 산에 오르기 전에 하나님께서 모세와 여호수아에게 말씀하신 것은 이렇습니다: “또 여호와께서 모세에게 이르시되 너는 네 조상과 함께 누우려니와 이 백성은 그 땅으로 들어가 음란히 그 땅의 이방 신들을 따르며 일어날 것이요 나를 버리고 내가 그들과 맺은 언약을 어길 것이라 내가 그들에게 진노하여 그들을 버리며 내 얼굴을 숨겨 그들에게 보이지 않게 할 것인즉 그들이 삼킴을 당하여 허다한 재앙과 환난이 그들에게 임할 그 때에 그들이 말하기를 이 재앙이 우리에게 내림은 우리 하나님이 우리 가운데에 계시지 않은 까닭이 아니냐 할 것이라 또 그들이 돌이켜 다른 신들을 따르는 모든 악행으로 말미암아 내가 그 때에 반드시 내 얼굴을 숨기리라.” – 신명기 31:16-18 한 사람의 이력이 오랜 세월 고생과 투자 끝에 완전히 실패한 것으로 보인다면 이보다 얼마나 더 슬플 수 있을까요? 하나님께서는 모세에게 그가 자기 인생을 투자한 나라가 결국은 이런 끔찍한 일들을 하게 될 것이고 하나님께서는 그들에게서 “그분의 얼굴을 숨기셔야 할” 것이라고 말씀하십니다. 이것은 하나님께서 그들과 그들의 필요를 무시할 것이며 그들의 소통하는 말은 그들 집의 천장 위로도 올라가지 못할 것이라는 뜻입니다. 그저 이것을 긍정적인 주석으로 끝내자면, 에스겔 39:22-27을 읽어보십시오. 그러면 여러분은 결국 모든 것이 좋을 것이며 온 이스라엘이 구원받고(로마서 11:25-27 참조), 하나님께서 이스라엘을 회복시키시고 그분의 얼굴을 그들에게 드러내실 것이라는 것을 알게 될 것입니다!

The Jerusalem Prayer List – July 23, 2020

The coronavirus is not over yet. Throughout South America the grim reaper continues to harvest lives by the tens of thousands each day. Medical institutions are out of equipment and out of staff and out of room to care for this horrid pandemic, plague, and disaster.
On the other hand in Oxford, England, and in the United States, and in China, and in Israel, there are reports of progress in the development of a vaccine. We must all pray that the Good Lord will guide and inspire and direct and give wisdom to the scientists that are working on the development of the vaccine. If this terrible scourge on humanity is man-made in Wuhan, China, may God have mercy on China. If, on the other hand, this plague is coming from God because of the abominable laws and practices and immorality and abuse of nature that we homo sapiens, the human race have perpetrated against God and His laws, we ought to all repent and beg the Lord of all for mercy and grace, and a speedy return of Yeshua His son, our messiah. As the Apostle Paul said it so clearly: “For we know that the whole creation groans and labors with birth pangs together until now. Not only that, but we also who have the firstfruits of the Spirit, even we ourselves groan within ourselves, eagerly waiting for the adoption, the redemption of our body. Likewise the Spirit also helps in our weaknesses. For we do not know what we should pray for as we ought, but the Spirit Himself makes intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered.” – Romans 8:22,23, 26 [NKJV] Please consider the word “groaning” in this text of the Apostle Paul. This is a very strong word, a word that conveys pain and suffering and longing and expectation. We, the Body of the Messiah, must restore our God-given task. The Churches have become so self-centered, each in his own denomination and buried in their own theological tombs. Too much religion and too little faith. Closer to Dale Carnegie and Norman Vincent Peale than to the Galilean Jew that bore our sins on his shoulders. Some of my friends might condemn me for being so Joseph Shulam, but consider this from the Apostle Paul again: “Therefore I exhort first of all that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks be made for all men, for kings and all who are in authority, that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and reverence.” – 1 Timothy 2:1,2 [NKJV] Now to this Shabbat’s Torah reading. Last Shabbat we finished the reading of the book of Numbers and we are now starting the book of Deuteronomy. The Greek word “deutero” means second and the word “nomos” means law. In short, in all languages other than Hebrew, this is the meaning of the word “Deuteronomy” = the second giving of the Torah (law). This coming Shabbat we read from Deuteronomy 1:1-3:22, and from the Prophets we read Isaiah 1:1-27 and from the New Testament we read 1 Timothy 3:1-7. All these readings are hard to digest emotionally and spiritually and intellectually. Let us take Moses, beside Yeshua the greatest prophet and leader of the people of God. He had invested 80 years of his life to bring the children of Israel out of bondage and slavery. He has been a prince of Egypt for 40 years living in one of the most luxurious palaces in human history. The word luxurious came from the city of Luxor – where Moses was raised in the palace of the Pharaoh. If you haven’t visited Egypt I suggest that in a few years when the coronavirus settles and the economies of the world also settle down, that Netivyah plan a special grand prayer and study tour with academic authorities from Israel, Greece, Turkey, Jordan, and Egypt. If Syria and Lebanon will be opened by that time we ought to include these countries as well. It will be a grand tour, of 21 days to first pray for these countries and the salvation of their people. Second it will be a tour to celebrate the histories of these countries and see the hand of God moving in their histories. Third it will be for the inspiration and education and celebration of God’s work in human history that started in this part of the world and will end in this part of the world. I would say that an addition to all of the above will be the encouragement and motivation for each participant to make disciples for the King and for His eternal kingdom, Yeshua the king of the Jews and all the Gentiles. Now, Moses was raised in Luxor for 40 years. He then spent 40 years doing what the Egyptians considered the most abominable job possible, shepherding of sheep. The last 40 years of his life he led a rabble of hundreds of thousands, yes around 2,000,000 ex-slaves, through one of the harshest deserts in the world, the Sinai Desert. Now Moses is about to go up Mount Nebo, and die a physical death. The book of Deuteronomy is Moses last and longest speech to the people of Israel and to the world. The book of Deuteronomy is sad from the beginning and sad in the end. It is sad but very important. The sadness is not ours, it is Moses’ – He begs the Lord in next week’s reading that starts with the word “Va'etchanan”: “Then I pleaded with the Lord at that time, saying: ‘O Lord God, You have begun to show Your servant Your greatness and Your mighty hand, for what god is there in heaven or on earth who can do anything like Your works and Your mighty deeds? I pray, let me cross over and see the good land beyond the Jordan, those pleasant mountains, and Lebanon.’ But the Lord was angry with me on your account, and would not listen to me. So the Lord said to me: ‘Enough of that! Speak no more to Me of this matter.’” – Deuteronomy 3:23-26 [NKJV] Please consider that this Moses is the same Moses to whom the Lord himself revealed His character: “Now the Lord descended in the cloud and stood with him there, and proclaimed the name of the Lord. And the Lord passed before him and proclaimed, ‘The Lord, the Lord God, merciful and gracious, longsuffering, and abounding in goodness and truth.’” – Exodus 34:5-6 [NKJV] I am sad for Moses not entering into the land that he waited 40 years to enter, but I am more sad for the answer he received from the Lord God of Israel who is “merciful and gracious and longsuffering…” How would I feel if the Lord would deny me something that I have worked for and labored for so long? How would you feel? My sadness is mitigated by the fact that I know that I am only a servant of flesh and blood and that God is the master and father and creator of the universe, and I trust that He knows what is right and wrong and what is best for me! This is the only mitigating factor in this situation, and it was good enough for Moses and it ought to be good enough for us when God tells us “No!” The end of Moses’ speech (that would take at least three hours to deliver on the plains of Moab in the spring of the year, without air conditioning and probably sitting on the ground and not on chairs or benches. The end is also very sad, even sadder than the beginning of the book of Deuteronomy. Here is what God said to Moses and to Joshua before Moses goes up the mountain to die: “And the Lord said to Moses: ‘Behold, you will rest with your fathers; and this people will rise and play the harlot with the gods of the foreigners of the land, where they go to be among them, and they will forsake Me and break My covenant which I have made with them. Then My anger shall be aroused against them in that day, and I will forsake them, and I will hide My face from them, and they shall be devoured. And many evils and troubles shall befall them, so that they will say in that day, “Have not these evils come upon us because our God is not among us?” And I will surely hide My face in that day because of all the evil which they have done, in that they have turned to other gods.’” – Deuteronomy 31:16-18 [NKJV] How much sadder can it be than this, when a man’s career looks like a total failure after years of suffering and investment? God tells Moses that the nation that He invested his life for will actually do these terrible things and God will have to “hide His face” from them. This means that God will ignore them and their needs and their communication will not go up even above the ceiling of their homes. Just to end this with a positive note. Read Ezekiel 39:22-27 and you will understand that in the end all will be good and all Israel will be saved (See Romans 11:25-27) and that God will restore Israel and reveal His face to them!
Please keep praying for Marcia’s health, her memory, and diabetes, and rheumatoid arthritis. Danah our daughter needs much prayer for her situation and so does our granddaughter Noaam. Please lift Danah and Noaam in your prayers. Please lift Barry our son and his family, Beth and Joey our grandson who are also staying at home and working from home during this time. Marcia’s mother June is 91 years old and her brothers and their families all need our prayers.
Brazil is in bad shape with the coronavirus and the business community with the social unrest is also undergoing a major challenge. We have so many brothers and sisters in Brazil that need our prayer and intercession on their behalf. That is one of the greatest forms of service in the kingdom of God. You will be blessed by the almighty God who gives each of His children good for the good we do and recompense for the bad we do.

Pray for Israel. We are going through terrible riots and violence in the streets of Jerusalem and Tel-Aviv and other places around the country. These riots are motivated by the fact that much of the populace of Israel doesn’t understand what the government is doing in relationship to the coronavirus pandemic.
Businesses are closing and established companies and businesses are experiencing bankruptcy. Even our national airline is on the verge of bankruptcy. People don’t have money to put food on their tables. The number of people in need of basic food is growing.
Netivyah has been feeding the poor of Jerusalem for more than 25 years and we have a highly appreciated humanitarian ministry that is working with the Jerusalem municipality. As the demands for food for people who never before needed such help grows, I pray that the Lord will inspire and motivate brothers and sisters and ministries who can help with this to go to the webpage: www.netivyah.org and do what they can to make it possible for us to double or more than double, the number of people and families that we serve.
Our prime minister’s case is still before the courts. I am not happy that this is happening in Israel, but I am praying that true justice and righteousness is exhibited in our court system. The truth must come out and I am not interested in a second prime minister of Israel going to jail. We have had a president in jail, a finance minister in jail, a minister of interior affairs in jail, and a member of parliament in jail. Enough!
The world is in a terrible flux as millions of people are dealing with this coronavirus and hundreds of thousands of families have already lost their loved ones to this plague of biblical proportions. Still, we also need to be grateful for countries like Israel who are beginning to come out and return to normality with caution and care.

Pray for some dear friends, Rabbi Morton Salt, and his family and Rabbi Hassablad. They are both older and need protection and blessings. Pray also for the Orthodox Rabbinical group called Tzoaar. A group of courageous Rabbis in Israel who want to see a restoration of the Torah values and a more lively approach to Jewish values and life-style. They are doing a great job in bringing the reality of the Torah to practice in the 21st Century.
The coronavirus is threatening the economy of the world with a great recession and depression. Some of our major supporters have already lowered the amount of their support. They have done this not only toward Netivyah, but for all the ministries that they are supporting, and they are many.
I would like to first ask you to pray about your part in supporting Netivyah Bible Instruction Ministry. Second, I would like for you who stand with us in prayer and financially to do your very best to stay on board with us and communicate. We realize that times will be hard for several years, but we also realize that God has chosen and blessed you for such a time as this.
I wish all of you, who stand with Israel and who pray for Jerusalem, the best of the Lord’s blessings and the fulfillment of all His promises to His faithful children. Those who hear God and do His will are the ones who are called wise! Those who only hear His word and don’t do it are called foolish! Let us all strive to be wise and never foolish!
