예루살렘 기도 목록 – 2020년 12월 24일
요셉 슐람
이번 안식일에 야곱의 아들 요셉 이야기는 절정에 이릅니다. 토라 포션은 창세기 44:18~47:27, 하프타라는 에스겔 37:15-28, 복음서는 누가복음 24:30-48입니다. 이번 안식일에 읽는 말씀은 모두 아주 중요합니다. 이 말씀들은 제가 “계획적”이라고 부르는 그런 성경의 말씀들입니다. “계획적”이라는 것은 그것들이 이후 역사에 영향을 줄 어떤 계획, 신의 계획, 체계를 시작하게 한다는 뜻입니다.
그 분위기는 이 토라 포션에 드리워져 있고, 수천 년 후 역사의 이 편에 있는 우리는 오늘날 그 영향을 강하게 받으며 우리 조상 아브라함, 이삭, 야곱 즉 이스라엘이 씨 뿌린 들판에서 그것을 거두고 있습니다. 창세기 45장 초반에는 성경 전체에서 가장 극적인 장면 중 하나가 있습니다. 성경 전체에서 가장 극적인 다른 한 사건은 예슈아의 십자가에 달리신 사건입니다. 다시 요셉이 그의 형제들을 시험하고 그의 형제들에게 “내가 당신들의 형제 요셉입니다.”하며 자신을 드러낸 토라 포션으로 갑니다. 그렇게 요셉은 베냐민의 양식 자루에 은잔을 숨기게 했습니다. 베냐민은 그 컵을 훔쳤다는 참소를 당했습니다. 요셉은 베냐민을 애굽에 그의 곁에 두고 싶었습니다. 여러분도 아시다시피 야곱의 열두 아들 중 베냐민만이 요셉과 엄마가 같은 친형제입니다. 요셉과 베냐민은 라헬의 아들들로, 딱 둘 뿐입니다. 라헬은 베냐민을 낳고 죽었습니다. 요셉의 전략은 형제들을 시험하여 그들이 그 역시 라헬의 아들인 그들의 동생에 대한 태도가 바뀌었는지 보려는 것이었습니다. 요셉이 자신을 그의 형제들에게 드러냈을 때, 그들은 요셉이 오래 전 그들이 그에게 했던 일 때문에 그들에게 복수할까봐 두려워했습니다. 반면에 요셉은 그들을 시험하여 그들이 변하여 그들의 행위에서 깨달은 것이 있는지 보고자 했습니다. 창세기 44:18에서 시작되는 이번 토라 포션은 이 사건들 직후입니다. 유다가 요셉에게 와, 그의 동생 베냐민을 대신하여 애굽 감옥에 자기를 넣어달라고 요셉에게 실질적으로 애걸합니다. 유다의 논거에는 유다가 형제들이 요셉에 대해 행한 행위의 통렬함을 알았음을 보여주는 몇 가지 사항이 있습니다. 유다는 형제들이 처음에 요셉을 죽이려 한 악한 계략에 대해 침묵하고 그대로 지낸 것이 잘못된 것이었다는 것을 알았습니다. 유다는 요셉을 죽이지 말고 대신 그를 팔아 거기서 약간의 이득을 얻자고 제안했던 장본인입니다. 기독교인들은 전통적으로 유다가 탐욕스럽고 돈에 혈안이 되어 있다고 비난합니다. 그러나 사실 유다는 그의 동생 요셉과, 만약 요셉이 죽임 당했을 경우 그의 아버지 야곱의 반응에 대해 마음을 쓰고 있었던 형이었다고 보는 것이 더 맞습니다. 이제 우리는 유다의 진짜 성품을 볼 수 있습니다. 그는 기꺼이 베냐민을 대신하고자 합니다. 그는 요셉에게 베냐민을 풀어주고 형제들이 아버지를 모시고 애굽으로 돌아올 때까지 베냐민 대신 자기를 담보로서 애굽에 남아있게 해달라고 간청합니다. 창세기 44:30-31에서 우리는 이 책에서 가장 감정적으로 절절한 본문 중 하나를 볼 수 있습니다: “아비의 생명과 아이의 생명이 서로 결탁되었거늘 … 아이가 우리와 함께하지 아니하면 아비가 아이의 없음을 보고 죽으리니 …” – 창세기 44:30,31 이제 우리는 요셉과 베냐민을 향한 야곱의 사랑은, 레아를 향한 사랑보다 더 컸던 라헬을 향한 사랑과 연결되어 있음을 알 수 있습니다. 이제 우리는 야곱이 요셉 때문에 얼마나 슬퍼했고 베냐민의 죽음에 대해 얼마나 염려하는지 알 수 있습니다. 유다는 그의 아버지 야곱과, 그의 아우 베냐민에 대해 깊이 마음을 쓰고 있음을 아주 잘 보여주었습니다. 유다는 그의 아버지와 아우에 대해 가지고 있는 깊은 헌신과 마음 씀으로 요셉의 마음을 녹였습니다. 유다의 이런 행동은 유다가 형제들에게 요셉을 죽이지 말자고 한 충고가 탐욕의 문제가 아니라 내적 정의감의 문제였음을 증명합니다. 유다가 요셉을 팔자고 충언했던 것은 그것이 유다가 요셉의 목숨을 살릴 수 있는 유일한 방법이었고, 그는 요셉이 이스마엘 사람들에게 팔려갈지라도, 삶을 꾸려갈 기회가 있으리라는 것을 알았습니다. 우리는 언제나 어떤 일의 긍정적인 면을 보아야 하며, 사실을 충분히 살피기 전에 사람들의 최악의 것을 생각하지 말아야 합니다. 토라는 재판장들에게 명합니다: “사람이 아무 악이든지 무릇 범한 죄는 한 증인으로만 정할 것이 아니요 두 증인의 입으로나 세 증인의 입으로 그 사건을 확정할 것이며 만일 위증하는 자가 있어 아무 사람이 악을 행하였다 말함이 있으면 그 논쟁하는 양방이 같이 하나님 앞에 나아가 당시 제사장과 재판장 앞에 설 것이요 재판장은 자세히 사실하여 그 증인이 위증인이라 그 형제를 거짓으로 무함한 것이 판명되거든 그가 그 형제에게 행하려고 꾀한대로 그에게 행하여 너희 중에서 악을 제하라.” – 신명기 19:15-19 기독교 역사에 유다에 대한 이런 참소는 사실에서 비롯된 것이 아니라, 지옥으로부터 물려받은 유대인과 유대민족에 대한 깊은 미움에서 비롯된 것입니다. 유대인과 그들의 재산에 대한 참소에 대해 사실을 확인해보자면, 유대인 중 약간만이 부유하고, 세상에서 가장 부유한 사람들은 유대인이 아닙니다. 그리고 사실 확인을 하더라도, 객관적 사실 확인은 그 몇몇의 부유한 유대인은 근면한 노동과 현명한 생각과 탁월한 사업 감각으로 부유해졌다는 것을 드러내 줄 것입니다. 세계적인 사기나 다른 범죄로 감옥에 들어간 유대인은 아주 소수 있습니다. 요셉 앞에 있는 유다는 그의 진짜 성품을 보여주고 있습니다. 아버지를 아주 많이 사랑하는 한 아들의 성품입니다. 그는 옳은 일을 하는 것에 대해 마음을 쓰는 사람입니다. 그는 감성적인 성품이며, 죄를 짓기도 하고 자기 죄를 솔직히 말하기도 하고 자신을 법의 처분에 맡길 줄도 아는 아주 열정적인 사람입니다. 요셉은 유다의 말을 듣고 녹아내립니다. 요셉이 그의 형제들에게 가르쳐주는 큰 교훈은 제게는 개인적으로 아주 중요합니다. 그 교훈은 45장 5절에 요약되어 있습니다: “당신들이 나를 이곳에 팔았으므로 근심하지 마소서 한탄하지 마소서 하나님이 생명을 구원하시려고 나를 당신들 앞서 보내셨나이다.” – 창세기 45:5 요셉은 노예로 그리고 아무 죄도 없이 옥에 갇혀 고난을 겪은 그의 인생을 하나님의 역사이며, 그의 형제들과 이스라엘의 구원자이자 또 한편 애굽의 구원자로 준비된 것으로 볼 수 있었습니다. 창세기 37장 시작부터 이제 아홉 장 이후까지 요셉 이야기의 얼마나 큰 드라마가 끝마쳐졌는지요! 미움, 속임수, 음모의 극적 사건으로 가득하고 이 모든 사건의 이면까지, 요셉은 이것이 모두 하나님의 터무니없는 극본의 일부였음을 이해했습니다. 정말로 무슨 일이 벌어지고 있는지 아는 유일한 분은 다름 아닌 바로 이 드라마의 제작자이자 감독이자 주인공이셨던, 우주의 창조주, 하나님이셨습니다. 이렇게 하나님께서는 그분의 백성을 구하시기 위해 역사하십니다. 그분께서는 그분의 영원한 계획, 인류를 구하시려는 계획을 기획하시고 실행하시기 위해 역사 속에 그리고 역사를 관통하여 일하시며 역사와 역사를 둘러싼 모든 것을 사용하십니다. 인류를 구하시는 그 계획은 우선 무엇보다 인류를 그 자체로부터 구하시기 위한 것이며, 둘째로 창조주를 전복시키고 그분의 백성을 다스리고 종 삼으려 끊임없이 시도하는 이 세상의 속임수와 정사 잡은 권력자들로부터 인류를 구하시기 위한 것입니다. 요셉은 구원자적 인물로, 이 하나님의 세상에서 구원자는 어떤 모습이어야 하는지 일종의 그 양상을 대표하고 있습니다! 모세도 구원자적 인물입니다. 그는 이교도 제사장인 미디안의 제사장 이드로를 섬기며 40년을 보내야 했습니다. 그는 애굽 왕자라는 이유로 존경은 그다지 많이 받지 않았습니다. 그는 그의 두 번째 40년 동안 이방인들 사이에서 고난을 겪었습니다. 그의 세 번째 40년은 광야에서 이스라엘 자손을 이끌어 그들을 가나안땅 입구까지 데려가며 고난을 겪었습니다. 아직도 온 세계에 영향을 미치고 있는 이와 똑같은 양상의 최종 모범은 당연히 나사렛 예슈아입니다. 이 양상은 요셉으로 시작하여, 모세에게 계속되었고, 최종적으로는 예슈아의 나타나심으로 이루어지고 끝마쳐졌습니다. 좀 작은 규모로 모든 하나님의 사람은 거의 똑같은 양상을 이루어야 했습니다. 주님의 선지자들은 편안하고 부유한 호화로운 삶을 살지 않았는데요, 그들은 이스라엘의 성읍 광장에서 그리고 성읍 성벽에서 주님의 말씀을 전했기 때문입니다. 그들도, 사실은 하나님의 말씀을 듣고 싶어 하지 않는 사람들에게 하나님의 말씀을 전하기 위해 고난을 겪었고 그들의 소명에 대한 비싼 대가를 치렀습니다. 요셉 이야기의 결론은 이것입니다: “하나님이 큰 구원으로 당신들의 생명을 보존하고 당신들의 후손을 세상에 두시려고 나를 당신들 앞서 보내셨나니 그런즉 나를 이리로 보낸 자는 당신들이 아니요 하나님이시라 하나님이 나로 바로의 아비를 삼으시며 그 온 집의 주를 삼으시며 애굽 온 땅의 치리자를 삼으셨나이다.” – 창세기 45:7,8 저는 요셉이 언제 그의 인생에 그에게 일어난 모든 것이, 좋은 일이든, 나쁜 일이든, 결국 성공한 것이든 이스라엘을 구원하시기 위한 하나님의 웅장한 계획의 일부이며, 그에게 일어난 모든 나쁜 일이 그의 가족의 목숨을 구하기 위한 것이었다는 이러한 결론에 도달하게 되었는지 모릅니다. 제가 제 인생에 더 일찍이 요셉이 도달했던 것과 같은 결론에 도달했었다면 얼마나 좋았을까요. 이제 저는 주님께서 신실하게 모든 것을 저 자신의 유익과 하나님의 사람들의 유익과 주님의 나라를 위해 역사하시는 것을 알기에 아주 기쁩니다. 저는 제가 16살에 제 가족과 집과 어린 시절 친구들로부터 멀리 떨어져 있어야 했을 때에도 제가 겪어야 했던 고생에 대해 결코 쓴 뿌리가 생기기 않았음을 솔직히 말씀드릴 수 있습니다. 그리고 왜 그런 일들이 내게 일어나는지 사실은 이해하지 못했지만 언제나 주님께 모든 것에 대해 감사했다는 것도 솔직히 말씀드릴 수 있습니다. 제 삶에는 주님께서 여전히 살아계시며, 요셉과 다윗과 기꺼이 “그 갈릴리 사람”의 손에 자기의 삶을 둔 사람들에게 주님이시며 구주셨던 것처럼 지금도 그러하심을 제게 증명해준 낯선 사람, 선생님, 농부, 설교자 등 주님께서 사용하신 많은 사람들이 있었습니다. 결국 이 모든 어려움과 고난은 우리를 주님께서 우리를 부르신 소명과 목적에 더 가까이 데려갑니다! 마지막 사항은 요셉이 애굽에서의 그의 모든 위대함에도 불구하고 자기가 누구인지, 자신이 어디에서 왔는지 결코 잊지 않았다는 것입니다. 애굽의 모든 부(富)도 그가 하나님에게서 받은 진짜 사명으로부터 그의 눈을 멀게 하지 않았습니다. 저는 이것을 읽는 모든 분이 만약 필요하거나 그래야 할 때 요셉처럼 주님을 위해 기꺼이 고난을 겪고, 번성하며, 키와 위대함이 자라며, 언제나 여러분이 누구인지, 누구에게 속했는지 아는 힘이 있도록 축복하며 기도합니다!

주님을 섬김에 진짜 영웅들인 저희 회중의 연로하신 레아, 아후바, 일라나 자매님들은 우리의 기도가 필요합니다. 두 분은 95세가 넘으셨고, 레아 자매님은 89세이십니다. 저희에게는 이 귀한 자매님들을 위해 기도해야 할 책임이자 기쁨이 있습니다. 여러분께도 여러분의 기도로 저희와 함께 해 주시기를 부탁드립니다. 일라나 자매님에게 종일 돌보미가 있고 네티비야가 지금은 그 비용을 감당하고 있습니다. 저희는 핀란드에서 여행이 허용되는 대로 바로 자원봉사자가 오기를 기도하고 있습니다. 네티비야는 아직 일라나 자매님을 오랫동안 보살필 종일 돌보미를 찾고 있습니다. 네티비야가 아직까지 일라나 자매님의 종일 돌보미 고용과 관련한 재정 문제를 맡고 있습니다. 여러분의 기도에 이 문제도 기억해 주십시오.
하나님의 말씀에는 과부와 고아를 돌보라는 분명한 명령이 있습니다. 이 명령은 토라에서도, 선지서에도, 시가서에도, 신약성경에도 각각 한 번 이상 반복되었습니다. 누구든, 자기가 나이가 들어가든 연로한 가족이 있든, 성도들과 우리의 영적 가족의 공동체에, 이 명령을 지켜 우리의 연로한 이들을 돌보는 일이 맡겨졌다는 것을 알아야 합니다. 그분들은 그분들이 젊었을 때 그분들의 모든 것을 내어주었습니다. 이제 그들의 필요한 것을 공급하는 것은 성도들의 책임입니다.

이스라엘 상황은 아직 나아지지 않았습니다! 이스라엘은 제한적 이동이 허용된 채 아직 폐쇄 중이며 대부분의 경제활동과 사업체들은 휴업 중인데요, 적어도 당분간 그럴 것입니다. 경제가 피폐해졌습니다.
저는 지난 주 예루살렘 기도 목록에 여러분이 개인적으로 모르는 사람들을 위해 기도하는 것과, 세계가 회복되고 코로나바이러스라고 불리는 이 끔직한 팬데믹이 끝나도록 기도하는 것은 좋은 일이라고 썼습니다. 코로나는 왕관입니다. 저는 이 바이러스가 어느 왕의 머리의 왕관이 될지 모르겠습니다.
1. 전 세계를 위한 중보 기도를 계속해 주시고, 여러분 각자의 나라를 위한 기도에 집중해 주시되, 이스라엘도 잊지 마시기 바랍니다.
2. 다른 형제자매님들을 위해 기도하며 성령을 통해 메시아의 몸을 위해 중보하는 사람들에게는 하나님으로부터의 복이 있습니다.
3. 우리가 전 세계 형제자매님들을 위해 몇 분 동안 기도하는 것은 작은 일 같이 보일지 모르지만, 하나님 나라와 하늘에서는, 메시야 예슈아의 몸이 진짜 한 몸임을 확증하고 그에 맞춘 관심과 진심 어린 중보와 기도에 선한 권위자들의 주의가 기울여집니다.

e. 한국에서 여전히 이스라엘에 있는 메시아의 몸을 위해 기도하고 있는, 특별히 네티비야를 위해 기도하며 후원하고 있는 모든 이들의 영적, 육적 건강을 위해 기도해 주십시오. 그들이 복 받고 영감을 받고 주님과 이스라엘을 위한 믿음과 소망과 사랑으로 충만해지기를 기도합니다.
우리 영적 지도자들이 우리를 회개로, 죄와 허물을 고백하는 데로 이끌고 지적하여, 주님께서 이 코로나바이러스를 이 땅에서 거두시고 우리가 주님을 기억하며 그분의 의와 진리의 길로 걸어가게 하도록 우리 모두 기도하며 격려합시다.

The Jerusalem Prayer List – December 24, 2020

This Shabbat comes the climax of the story of Joseph son of Jacob. From the Torah: Genesis 44:18-47:27, Haftarah: Ezekiel 37:15-28, Gospels: Luke 24:30-48. All the readings this next Shabbat are of great importance. These readings are what I would call “programmatic.” Programmatic means that they set in motion a program, a divine plan, a system that will influence the rest of history.
The tone is set in these readings and we today thousands of years on this side of history are still being strongly influenced and harvesting the fields that were seeded by our forefathers, Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob – Israel. In the beginning of chapter 45 of Genesis we have one of the most dramatic scenes in the whole Bible. The only other event that is more dramatic in the whole Bible is the crucifixion of Yeshua. Now our Torah reading of Joseph’s test for his brothers and the revelation to his brothers, “I am Joseph your brother.” So, Joseph had a silver cup hidden in the sack of wheat of Benjamin. Benjamin was accused of stealing the cup. Joseph wanted to keep Benjamin in Egypt next to himself. You see Benjamin is the only one of the 12 sons of Jacob that was Joseph’s full brother. Both Joseph and Benjamin are the sons of Rachel, the two only children. Rachel died giving birth to Benjamin. Joseph’s strategy was to test the brothers and see if they had a change of attitude toward their younger brother who was also the son of Rachel. After Joseph revealed himself to his brothers, they were afraid that Joseph was going to take vengeance on them for what they had done to him many years earlier. Joseph, on the other hand, wanted to test them to see if they had changed and learned from their deeds. Our reading starting in Genesis 44:18 is the aftermath of these events. Judah comes to Joseph and essentially begs Joseph to be put in Jail in Egypt in place of Benjamin his younger brother. In Judah’s arguments there are several points that demonstrate that Judah has understood the severity of the brothers’ deeds against Joseph. Judah knows that it was wrong to keep quiet and go along with the evil scheme that the brothers had to first kill Joseph. Judah was the one that suggested that instead of killing Joseph they should sell him and get some gain. Christians traditionally accuse Judah of being greedy and money hungry. It is more correct to view Judah as having been in fact, the brother who was more concerned for his brother Joseph and for the reaction of Jacob his father if Joseph would have been killed. Now we see Judah’s real character. He is willing to take the place of Benjamin. He is asking Joseph to release Benjamin and keep him instead of Benjamin in Egypt as collateral that the brothers will return with their father to Egypt. In chapter 44:30-31, we find one of the most emotional texts in Genesis: “…since his life is bound up in the lad’s life, it will happen, when he sees that the lad is not with us, that he will die.” – Genesis 44:30,31 [NKJV] Now we understand that Jacob’s love for Joseph and Benjamin is connected to Jacob’s love for Rachel that was greater than his love for Leah. Now we understand how much Jacob grieved for Joseph and how worried Jacob was for Benjamin’s fate. Judah did a great job showing his deep care for his father Jacob, and for his younger brother Benjamin. Judah melted Joseph’s heart with the deep devotion and care that Judah had for his father and brother. This deed of Judah proves that Judah’s advice to his brothers not to kill Joseph was not a matter of greed but a matter of an internal sense of Justice. Judah’s advice to sell Joseph was the only way that Judah could save Joseph’s life, realizing that Joseph would have had a chance to have a life, even if he was sold to the Ishmaelites. We must always look at the positive side of things and to not think the worst of people before we have fully examined the facts. The Torah commands the judges: “One witness shall not rise against a man concerning any iniquity or any sin that he commits; by the mouth of two or three witnesses the matter shall be established. If a false witness rises against any man to testify against him of wrongdoing, then both men in the controversy shall stand before the Lord, before the priests and the judges who serve in those days. And the judges shall make careful inquiry, and indeed, if the witness is a false witness, who has testified falsely against his brother, then you shall do to him as he thought to have done to his brother; so, you shall put away the evil from among you.” – Deuteronomy 19:15-19 [NKJV] This accusation against Judah in Christian history is not coming from facts, but it is coming from a deep hate inherited against the Jews and the Jewish nation from the pits of hell. If the facts were checked on the accusations against the Jews and their wealth – just a few of them are wealthy, the wealthiest people in the world are not Jews – but, if there would be a check, an objective check of the facts would reveal that a few Jews became wealthy by hard work, wise thinking, and a good business sense. There are very few Jews in the jails of the world for fraud or other criminal acts. Judah in front of Joseph is showing his true character. The character of a son who loves his father very much. He is a person who is concerned about doing what is right. He is an emotional character and a person of strong passion that can sin, and confess his sins, putting himself at the mercy of the law. Joseph melts after hearing the words of Judah. The big lesson that Joseph teaches his brothers is so important to me personally. The lesson is summarized in verse 5 of chapter 45: “But now, do not therefore be grieved or angry with yourselves because you sold me here; for God sent me before you to preserve life.” – Genesis 45:5 [NKJV] Joseph has the ability to look at his life, at his sufferings as a slave and as a prisoner that was not guilty of any crime, as the work of God and as his preparation for becoming the savior of his brothers and Israel and by the way, also the savior of Egypt. What a major drama is being played out in the story of Joseph from the very beginning in Genesis chapter 37, and now 9 chapters later. A saga full of drama, of hate, deception, intrigue, and behind all of these events Joseph understands that it was all a part of God’s theater of the absurd. The only one who really knew what was happening was none other than the Creator of the Universe, God Himself, who was the producer, the director, and the main character in this drama. This is how God works in order to save His people. He works in history and through history and uses history and all that surrounds history to plan and execute His eternal plan, the plan to save humanity. To first and foremost, save humanity from itself, and secondly to save humanity from the powers of deception and the principalities of this world that are attempting to overthrow the Creator and to take control of, and to enslave, His people. Joseph is a savior figure, he represents a kind of pattern for what a savior figure should be in this world of God! Moses is also a savior figure. He had to spend 40 years serving a pagan priest – Jethro, a priest of Midian. He didn’t get much honor for being the prince of Egypt. He suffered among the gentiles for the second 40 years of his life. He suffered the third 40 years, leading the children of Israel in the wilderness, and bringing them to the entrance to the land of Canaan. The ultimate example of this same pattern that is still influencing the whole world, is of course Yeshua of Nazareth. The pattern started with Joseph, continued with Moses, and was ultimately fulfilled and played out in the manifestation of Yeshua. On a smaller scale every man of God had to more or less fulfill the same pattern. The prophets of the Lord didn’t have a plush life of comfort and riches because they spoke the word of the Lord in the city squares and from the walls of the cities of Israel. They too suffered and paid dearly for their calling, to speak the word of God to people who didn't really want to hear it. The conclusion of the story of Joseph is this: “And God sent me before you to preserve a posterity for you in the earth, and to save your lives by a great deliverance. So now it was not you who sent me here, but God; and He has made me a father to Pharaoh, and lord of all his house, and a ruler throughout all the land of Egypt.” – Genesis 45:7,8 [NKJV] I don’t know when Joseph reached this conclusion that all that had happened to him in his life, the good, the bad, and the ultimate success, was a part of God’s grand scheme to save Israel and that everything bad that happened to him was to save the lives of his family! How much I wish that I would have come to the same conclusion as Joseph did, earlier in my life. Now I am so happy to know that the Lord was faithful to make all things for my personal good and for the good of the people of God and for the kingdom of the Lord. I can confess that even when I was 16 years old, and away from family, home, and childhood friends, I never felt bitter for the hardships that I had to go through. I can also confess that I didn’t really understand why those things were happening to me, but I always thanked the Lord for everything. There were many people, strangers, teachers, farmers, preachers, and teachers, who were used by the Lord in my life, proving to me that He is still alive and still the same Lord and savior as He was for Joseph and for David, and for those who are willing to put their lives in the hands of the “man from Galilee.” In the end of it all, every hardship and suffering brings us closer to the calling and purpose for which we are called by the Lord! The last point is that Joseph, in spite of all his greatness in Egypt, never forgot who he was and where he came from. All the wealth of Egypt didn’t blind his eyes from the true mission that he received from God. I bless each and every one who reads this and pray that they will have the strength to be willing to suffer for the Lord if and when necessary, and to flourish and grow in stature and greatness like Joseph and to always know who you are and where you belong!
Marcia and I are still in the USA and we are scheduled to fly back home to Israel on Thursday, December 24th, 2020. We are scheduled to arrive in Israel on Friday the 25th at 2:20 P.M. I am asking you to pray that we will not be sent to a hotel for a 14-day quarantine. I hope that they will allow us to be quarantined in our own home. However, if we are sent to a hotel for a 14-day quarantine, we will do the best we can.
Bathsheba Derbaremdicker, Zvi’s wife, is back home and is recovering from her cancer surgery. Please keep her in your prayers. Hadassah our dear sister is recovering from her surgery. The mother of our sister Fernanda from Brazil had her surgery and the doctor said that is was successful. She is now also in recuperation and facing the long haul of post cancer treatment. I am asking you to pray for her treatment to be successful and for remission of the cancer.
Our older sisters who are true heroes in the service of the Lord, Leah, Ahuva, and Ilana, need our prayers. Two are over 95 years old, and Leah is 89 years old. We have both the obligation and the joy of praying for these dear sisters and we ask you to join us with your prayer. Ilana has a full-time caregiver and Netivyah is covering the cost, right now. We are praying for a volunteer from Finland to come as soon as travel is allowed. Netivyah is still looking for a more permanent full-time caregiver for Ilana. Netivyah is still taking care of the financial issues involved with having a full-time caregiver for Ilana. Keep this issue also in your prayers.
There is a clear command in the word of God to take care of the widows and orphans. This command is repeated in the Torah, the Prophets, the Writings, and in the New Testament several times. Anyone who is getting old or has older family members must know that the fellowship of the saints and of our spiritual family can be trusted to keep this commandment and to take care of our older generation of people who have given all their younger years and now it is the responsibility of the saints to take care of their elderly.
Please consider as a church or as individuals to add something extra for the elderly saints of Jerusalem.
I am asking you to pray for a very special kindergarten in Jerusalem – “Little Hearts.” The director of this special kindergarten is one of our own, from our congregation. What makes this kindergarten different from all the others in Jerusalem is that it has Jewish and Arab and Christian children together learning form an early age, co-existence. The staff is dedicated to teaching these children the value of the kaleidoscope that is called Israel, and especially Jerusalem.
Zacharias Waldner from Canada who is paraplegic, has a problem with sores and is asking for our prayers. Please add Zacharias to your prayer list.
We have received a prayer request from a dear sister, Livia Schnell Nothen, who has been with us in Portugal and has stood with our brothers in Brazil and with us on the issue of the Anussim (the “coerced ones,” descendants of 15th century Spanish and Portuguese Jews who were forced to convert to Catholicism and who continued to secretly practice their Judaism, getting the State of Israel to accept them as Jews under the Law of Return has been an issue) and their plight.
Please keep brother Philip Marc in your prayers. Philip is a young man with very serious cancer. He is a truth seeker and a faithful disciple of Yeshua who loves God and who is a lover of Israel. Philip lives far from Israel in a country that we can’t travel to, but Philips heart is with us and with God’s people.
Pray for Paulo C. Pereira Braga Dias. He is the father of a dear sister in Brazil.
The situation in Israel is not getting better yet! Israel is still under closure with limited mobility and most of the economy and businesses are closed, at least for now. The economy is devastated.
I wrote last week in the Jerusalem Prayer List that it is a good work to pray for people whom you don’t know personally and to pray for the world to recover and bring an end to this horrible pandemic called the coronavirus. Corona is a crown, and I am not sure on the head of which king this virus is a crown.
1. Please keep doing intercessory prayer for the whole world, concentrate on your country, but do not forget Israel.
2. There is a blessing from God to those who pray for other brothers and sisters and intercede through the Holy Spirit for the body of the Messiah.
3. It might seem like a small thing for us to pray a few minutes for brothers and sisters around the world, but in the Kingdom and in the Heavens attention is paid by the authorities of Goodness to the caring and sincere intercessory prayer that conforms and confirms that the body of the Messiah Yeshua is truly one body.
a. Pray for all the former and present people involved in the Korean Israel Bible Instruction Ministry.
b. Pray for the former board members of KIBI and that those who need to repent and to restore their relationship with Netivyah receive power from on high to do so.
c. Pray for those members and academics that are and were a part of the Israel Forum.
d. Pray for those who have prayed so faithfully for the salvation of Israel and for peace in Israel.
e. Pray for the spiritual and physical health of all those in Korea who are still praying for the body of the Messiah in Israel and specifically praying and supporting Netivyah. Bless them and inspire them and pray that they be filled with faith, hope and love for the Lord and for Israel.
Let us all pray and encourage our spiritual leaders to lead and to point us toward repentance and to confession of our sins and weaknesses, so that the Lord will lift this coronavirus from off of this earth and we will remember the Lord and seek to walk in His paths of righteousness and truth.
Danah our daughter, needs much prayer for her situation and so does our granddaughter Noaam. Please lift Danah and Noaam in your prayers. Please lift Barry our son and his family, Beth, and Joey our grandson who are also staying at home and working from home during this time. Marcia’s mother June is 91 years old and her health is failing. Our sister from Jerusalem, Hadassah, had her surgery for cancer and is now at home recovering. Please keep her in your prayers.
We are praying for a three-year-old little girl who is ill with a rare illness and cancer. She lives with her family in California and we need to pray for her and her family to receive attention and healing from the Lord and that she might be allowed to grow up to serve His kingdom.
I am adding a new prayer request from a leader of God’s people in India, Joy Mathew. Joy has a serious heart condition and has asked for prayer. I am praying that some of the local elders will go to Joy, anoint him with oil, and pray for his healing, in accordance with the instructions given by James the brother of Yeshua in his letter to the twelve tribes of Israel living in the diaspora.
Please pray for our brothers and sisters in Brazil. Brazil is one of the countries with a remarkably high count of sick and dead people from the coronavirus. We have brothers and sisters all around Brazil, and I ask you to just say a prayer for divine protection and for wisdom to keep them clear from this deadly plague. Also include in your prayers Caique de Oliveira Becker These are people in Brazil who need the Lord’s special grace for healing. Please do not forget to lift up in prayer the young man Paulo and the Amaral family, in Brazil.
Please keep in your prayers our dear brother Pastor TJ in Taiwan. TJ is going through a new phase in his life, having lost his wife.
Keep Ruby Little in your prayers, our dear sister from Oklahoma City, who is also battling against cancer and add to your prayers Allison Howard Williams. Allison is the daughter of one of my incredibly special teachers and friends, Dr. George Howard. Allison is also battling cancer.

Please keep praying for Samuel Lopes, a 17-year-old boy who is going through an extremely hard time. His father and mother are extremely upset that He is not walking with the Lord and I heard from his father he has joined with friends who are far from the paths of righteousness.
Please pray for the family of brother Joseph Kelber and especially for his son. Pray for Rachael and Daniel, a brother and sister who need jobs and emotional healing. Lift these brothers and sisters in your prayers: Angela Isby, Aries Franklin Mayers Sr., and Tony Black. Keep praying for Nancy, Don and their son Aaron Hook, Rachel David Kim’s wife – Jingyung Lee, Dr. Yuizawa, Tiz H., Lion H., Michael Schiffman, Joe Mays, Ilana Abramov, Cynthia Parveen’s sister, David Stern and his family, Anne West who is now 100 years old. Sister Yoko had a stroke, and we pray that her recovery will be quick and full.

I have just received a prayer request from a dear sister from Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Her father who is 70 years old and diabetic has contracted the COVID-19 virus. His name is Paulo C. Pereira Braga Dias. He is in the hospital and his condition is particularly challenging. Please join us in lifting Paulo C. Pereira Braga Dias in your prayers.
Please see your prayer as casting a vote for healing before the Lord and His angels in Heaven in favor of every brother and sister that you are praying for. Just a word of grace for all of us is a refreshing spirit. Take your prayers before the mercy seat of the Almighty to be heard in favor of those that you are lifting in prayer.
Please add to your prayers the family of Um Mahmud Abu-Eid and Jimmy their son. I believe that this is a good thing for us to pray for friends and acquaintances who are Muslims. It is an act of love and reconciliation to carry before the throne of mercy those dear people who are seeking peace and righteousness looking toward the Lord for mercy and healing.

By praying for people who are your brothers and sisters, and whom you do not know personally, you are exercising the right to be God’s ambassador in what is called “agape love.” “Agape love” is the highest form of love, a love that does not look for earthly rewards or give and take, but just does the service of intercession in the kingdom of God.
You will be blessed by the almighty God who gives each of His children good for the good we do and recompense for the bad we do. Your sincere prayers for people around the world do the following things for the Kingdom, the King, and for the body of the Messiah:
1. They unite you and the body in a major transcendent bond of prayer.
2. They demonstrate the oneness of the people of God.
3. Your prayer shows that there are people outside the realm of the physical world and personal interests who have a sincere bond and relationship that is heavenly and not earthly.
4. The Lord knows His children and gives credit and reward according to His promises.

Ahuva. Please pray for a dear brother who is well into his 90’s and lost his wife a couple of weeks ago. His name is Dov H. Please keep a dear sister who attends our congregation in Jerusalem. Her name is Hadassah and she just had cancer surgery. Pray for Hadassah for a full recovery and remission from cancer in her body.
Pray for Israel. We are going through terrible riots and violence in the streets of Jerusalem and Tel-Aviv and other places around the country. These riots are motivated by the fact that much of the populace of Israel does not understand what the government is doing in relationship to the coronavirus pandemic.
Businesses are closing and bankruptcy is happening to old established companies and businesses and even our national airline is on the verge of bankruptcy. People do not have money to put food on their tables. The number of people in need of basic food is growing.
Netivyah has been feeding the poor of Jerusalem for more than 25 years and we have a highly appreciated humanitarian ministry that is working with the Jerusalem municipality. As the demands for food for people who never before needed such help grows, I pray that the Lord will inspire and motivate brothers and sisters and ministries who can help with this to visit our webpage: www.netivyah.org and do what they can to make it possible for us to double or more than double, the number of people and families that we serve.
Our prime minister’s case is still before the courts. I am not happy that this is happening in Israel, but I am praying that true justice and righteousness is exhibited in our court system. The truth must come out and I am not interested in a second prime minister of Israel going to jail. We have had a president in jail, a finance minister in jail, a minister of interior affairs in jail, and a member of the parliament in jail. Enough!

I was asked by brothers and sisters of the Messianic congregation, Shoresh David (The Root of David) in Portland, Oregon, to pray for Portland. Anarchist elements have taken the center of Portland, OR, and turned it into chaos, and disorder. So, please pray for Portland, OR, and for our brothers and sisters in that city.
The coronavirus is threatening the economy of the world with a great recession and depression. Some of our major supporters have already lowered the amount of their support. They have done this not only toward Netivyah, but for all the ministries that they are supporting, and they are many. I would like to first ask you to pray about your part in supporting Netivyah Bible Instruction Ministry.
Second, I would like for you who stand with us in prayer and financially to do your absolute best to stay on board with us and communicate. We realize that times will be hard for several years, but we also realize that God has chosen and blessed you for such a time as this.
Third please pray for a new project that we are starting in Israel in partnership with the Houses for Healing ministry from Abilene, Texas.
The aim is to provide hospitality for families of critically ill patients who are hospitalized in one of Jerusalem’s hospitals and who have no means to stay in hotels while their family members are in the hospitals.
This is a critical need especially in these days when there are hundreds of men and women who are in the Coronavirus ICU units for weeks and even months.
We need your prayer and your help to make this a meaningful and significant blessing both to the sick and to their families.
I wish all of you, who stand with Israel and who pray for Jerusalem, the best of the Lord’s blessings and the fulfillment of all His promises to His faithful children.
