이번 안식일 토라와 선지서에서 읽는 포션은 “바옐렠”이라고 하고 번역하면 “그리고 그가 갔다”입니다.

토라에서 읽는 부분은 신명기 31:1-30입니다.

관련 하프타라 본문은 호세아 14:2-10과 미가 7:18-20입니다.

신약성경에서 읽는 본문은 로마서 10:14-18입니다.

신명기 끝부분의 이번 토라 포션은 하나님께서 이스라엘에 대해 제기한 고소를 다룰 다음 토라 포션에 대한 준비이자 서론입니다.

이번 안식일 토라 포션에서 흥미로운 점은 이 세 본문 모두를 연결하는 공통 주제입니다. 관통하고 있는 주제는 인간의 연약함, 하나님의 긍휼과 만남, 하나님의 말씀을 듣고 반응하는 것의 필요성입니다.

이번 토라 포션이 우리 앞에 제시하는 큰 사건은 리더십 이양입니다. 모세는 곧 비스가 산에 올라 다시는 그 산에서 내려오지 않으려는 순간입니다. 모세는 하나님께 그가 요단강을 건너 약속의 땅에 들어가는 것을 허락해 달라고 간청하고 있습니다. 하나님께서는 모세에게 부정의 대답을 주십니다. 모세는 기업으로 약속된 가나안 땅에 들어갈 수 없습니다.

리더십 이양은 언제나 어렵고, 최고의 상황에서도 그렇습니다. 그런데 모세 같은 사람을 뒤잇도록 선택된 지도자는 배나 어려운데요, 그 이유는 광야에서의 모세의 특별하고 독특한 지도력 때문입니다. 모세는 120세이고 그가 하나님께 바란 전부는 요단강을 건너 아브라함과 이삭과 야곱과 그들의 씨(자손), 이스라엘 백성에게 약속된 가나안 땅으로 들어갈 수 있는 권리입니다.

모세는 눈의 아들 여호수아를 택했습니다. 여호수아는 가나안 땅을 정탐하고 가나안 성읍들과 마을들의 요새화 형세와 가나안 땅의 농사 정세에 대한 정보 보고를 가지고 돌아오도록 파견된 이스라엘 두령 중 한 명이었습니다. 정탐꾼 열 명은 20세에서 50세까지의 초라한 이스라엘 사람들을 보면 가망과 안전감을 잃게 될 아주 사실적인 보고를 가지고 돌아왔습니다. 이 열 정탐꾼은 요새화된 가나안 마을들과 성읍들과 힘 때문에 이스라엘 사람들이 그 땅을 차지하지 못할 것이라는 부정적 보고를 했습니다. 여호수아와 갈렙은 상세한 보고에 있어서는 다른 열 정탐꾼과 같은 보고를 했지만, 든든한 소망과 약속, 그렇습니다, 우리가 가나안 성읍을 취하고 그 땅을 차지할 수 있다는 말을 덧붙였습니다.

리더십은 여호수아에게 넘겨졌고, 하나님께서는 모세와 이스라엘 지도자들에게 그분의 임재가 이스라엘 진영 안에 머물며 성공을 보장할 것이라고 약속하십니다. 하나님의 일은 어떤 한 지도자 이상으로 계속됩니다.

모세는 이스라엘에 말합니다:

“네 하나님 여호와 그가 너와 함께 가시며 결코 너를 떠나지 아니하시며 버리지 아니하실 것임이라” (6절)

용기는 인간의 힘에서만 흘러나오는 것이 아니라, 하나님의 약속에서 흘러나옵니다.

모세는 토라를 써서 제사장들과 장로들에게 줍니다(9절, 24–26절). 이것은 매 7년마다 장막절에 공중 낭독될 것입니다(10–13절).

이번 토라 포션에는 예언적인 면이 있습니다. 하나님께서는 이스라엘이 요단간을 건너 그 땅에 정착한 후까지 계속 충직하게 남지 않을 것이라는 것을 아십니다. 하나님께서는 모세에게 그가 죽은 후에 이스라엘은 엇나가, 다른 신들을 섬기고, 언약을 깰 것이며, 하나님께서는 그들의 죄 때문에 그분의 얼굴을 숨기실 것이라고 말씀합니다(16–18절).

토라와 “모세의 노래”(32장)는 이 땅의 마지막 날들에 이르기까지 하나님께서 신실하게 그분의 약속을 지키시고 아브라함에게 약속하신 땅을 이스라엘에 주셨음을 증거하는 증인으로 설 것입니다. 그래서 요한계시록에서 성도들이 메시아의 보좌 앞에 모였을 때 부르는 노래는 하나님과 그분의 백성의 영원한 승리를 말하는 어린 양의 노래와 모세의 노래입니다.

신명기 32:1은 사도 바울과 그의 모든 신학을 이해하는 데에 있어서 가장 중요한 장 중 한 장의 시작입니다. 신명기 32장 1절(31장 30절)에서 볼 수 있듯이, 이 장은 “모세의 노래”라고도 합니다.

“그리고 모세가 이스라엘 총회에 이 노래의 말씀을 끝까지 읽어 들리니라” (신명기 31:30)

신명기 32장은 법정 소송(고소)입니다. 하나님께서는 이스라엘의 불충에 대해 그들을 판단해달라고 이스라엘을 법정으로 데려가십니다. 신명기 32:1-2의 모세의 말입니다:

“하늘이여 귀를 기울이라 내가 말하리라 땅은 내 입의 말을 들을지어다 2 내 교훈은 비처럼 내리고 내 말은 이슬처럼 맺히나니 연한 풀 위의 가는 비 같고 채소 위의 단비 같도다”

모세는 이스라엘에 대한 고소를 시작합니다. 그는 하늘과 땅을 재판관으로 초청합니다. 우리는 이것이 모세가 산에 올라 그곳에서 죽기 전 이스라엘 자손에게 하는 마지막 말이라는 것을 기억해야 합니다. 이 말은 이스라엘 자손에 대한 유력한 고소입니다. 저는 모세가 그의 마지막 말은 이스라엘 자손을 변호하는 말을 했어야 하는 것 아닌가 생각했을 것 같습니다. 그런데, 모세는 그렇게 하지 않고 이스라엘 자손에 대한 강력한 고소를 제기합니다. 이 고소는 오늘날 반-유대주의 범죄자들이 이스라엘을 대적하여 사용할 만한 고소입니다. 사실, 오늘 아침 저는 한 젊은 설교가가 오늘날의 이스라엘에 대해 매우 가혹한 말을 하는 것을 들었습니다. 다행히 청중 중에 한 젊은이가 이 젊은 목사를 바로 잡고 이 목사로 하여금 자기가 틀렸었다고 토로하게 만들었습니다.

실력 있는 변호사처럼 모세는 여호와(재판관)께 찬사와 칭찬을 말합니다. 그는 이 말로 하나님께 아부하며 환심을 삽니다: 그는 반석이며, 그의 일은 완전하니, 그의 모든 길이 정의롭도다. 진리의 하나님이며 불의가 없고, 그는 공의롭고 올바르시다.

모세가 이스라엘에 대해 제기한 고소입니다:

“그들이 여호와를 향하여 악을 행하니 하나님의 자녀가 아니요 흠이 있고 삐뚤어진 세대로다” (신명기 32:5)

물론, 모세는 진실을 말하고 있지만, 저는 그가 지도자였고 광야에서 방랑한 그 40년 동안 이스라엘의 수석 권위자였기에 그는 그들을 옳은 길로 이끄는 데 있어서 최고로 잘 하지 못했다고 말하고 죄책감을 가졌어야 했다고 생각할 것 같습니다. 그렇지만 그는 모세고, 제가 누구라고 모세를 비판하겠습니까?

모세가 하늘과 땅 재판관들 앞에 제기한 고소는 매우 가혹하고 의심의 여지 없이 사실입니다. 그런 다음, 6절에서 모세는 약간 독선적으로 이 말로 이스라엘 백성을 향해 말합니다:

모세는 이스라엘을 가지고 하나님의 행동을 정당화합니다. 그는 이스라엘에 하나님께서 그들을 돌보셨고 그들에게 낯선 신들을 소개하지 않으셨다는 것을 상기시킵니다. 그는 이스라엘 자손에게 하나님께서 그분의 눈동자같이 그들을 지키시고 돌보셨다는 것을 상기시킵니다. 그는 하나님과 이스라엘 사이의 관계를 설명하는 데에 또 다른 비유를 사용합니다.

“여호와께서 그가 땅의 높은 곳을 타고 다니게 하시며 밭의 소산을 먹게 하시며 반석에서 꿀을, 굳은 반석에서 기름을 빨게 하시며 소의 엉긴 젖과 양의 젖과 어린 양의 기름과 바산에서 난 숫양과 염소와 지극히 아름다운 밀을 먹이시며 또 포도즙의 붉은 술을 마시게 하셨도다 그런데 여수룬이 기름지매 발로 찼도다 네가 살찌고 비대하고 윤택하매 자기를 지으신 하나님을 버리고 자기를 구원하신 반석을 업신여겼도다 그들이 다른 신으로 그의 질투를 일으키며 가증한 것으로 그의 진노를 격발하였도다 그들은 하나님께 제사하지 아니하고 귀신들에게 하였으니 곧 그들이 알지 못하던 신들, 근래에 들어온 새로운 신들 너희의 조상들이 두려워하지 아니하던 것들이로다 너를 낳은 반석을 네가 상관하지 아니하고 너를 내신 하나님을 네가 잊었도다 그러므로 여호와께서 보시고 미워하셨으니 그 자녀가 그를 격노하게 한 까닭이로다 그가 말씀하시기를 내가 내 얼굴을 그들에게서 숨겨 그들의 종말이 어떠함을 보리니 그들은 심히 패역한 세대요 진실이 없는 자녀임이로다 그들이 하나님이 아닌 것으로 내 질투를 일으키며 허무한 것으로 내 진노를 일으켰으니 나도 백성이 아닌 자로 그들에게 시기가 나게 하며 어리석은 민족으로 그들의 분노를 일으키리로다 그러므로 내 분노의 불이 일어나서 스올의 깊은 곳까지 불사르며 땅과 그 소산을 삼키며 산들의 터도 불타게 하는도다 내가 재앙을 그들 위에 쌓으며 내 화살이 다할 때까지 그들을 쏘리로다” (신명기 32:13-23)

이 본문을 이해하기 위해서는 먼저 로마서 11장을 처음부터 끝까지 읽으십시오. 그리고 여러분이 읽으신 것에 대해 분명히 이해하지 못했으면, 다시 읽은 다음 신명기 32:6-22를 읽으십시오. 여러분은 연관성이 보일 것인데요, 바울이 사용하고 있는 동기가 연관되어 있다는 것과 신명기 32장에서 가져온 것이라는 것, 또한 “온 이스라엘이 구원을 받으리라” 약속하고 있는 구절도 보일 것입니다.

The Jerusalem Prayer List – 27 September, 2025

The readings from the Torah and the Prophets for this next Shabbat are called: Vayelech – the translation of the name of this reading, Vayelech, to English is “to go” or “walk.”

From the Torah, Deuteronomy 31:1-30.

The associated Haftarah readings are Hosea 14:2-10 and Micah 7:18-20

—the reading from the New Testament, Romans 10:14-18.

This Torah portion from the end of the book of Deuteronomy is a preparation and introduction to the next Torah portion that deals with the court case that God is taking against Israel.

The interesting thing in this Shabbat's reading is the common theme that connects all three readings. The common thread is the human weakness, meeting divine mercy, and the necessity of hearing and responding to God's Word.

The big event that this portion of the Torah is setting before us is the transition of leadership. Moses is about to go up to Mount Pisgah and never come down from that mountain. Moses begs God to allow him to cross the Jordan River into the promised land. God gives Moses a negative answer. Moses can't enter the promised land of Canaan as an inheritance.

A transition in leadership is always challenging, even under the best circumstances. But a leader chosen to follow someone like Moses is doubly difficult because of Moses's special and unique leadership of Israel in the wilderness. Moses is 120 years old and all he wishes from God is just the right to cross the river Jordan into the promised land, the land of Canaan, promised to Abraham, and to Isaac, and to Jacob and their seed, the people of Israel.

Moses had chosen Joshua ben Nun. Joshua was one of the Israelite leaders sent out to spy out the land of Canaan and bring back an intelligence report with a description of the fortifications of the Canaanite cities and towns, and the agricultural layout of the land of Canaan. Ten of the spies came back with a very realistic report that looked at the rag-tag Israelites between the ages of 20 and 50, and lost their perspective and security. The 10 spies gave a negative report and said that the Israelites couldn't take the land because of the strength and fortification of the Canaanite towns and fortifications. Joshua and Caleb reported the same detailed report as the other 10 spies, but added the secure hope and promise that, yes, we can take those Canaanite cities and possess the land.

Leadership is handed over to Joshua, and God promises Moses and the leadership of Israel that His presence will stay in the camp of Israel to guarantee success. God's work continues beyond any one leader.

Moses tells Israel:

"The LORD your God, He is the One who goes with you. He will not leave you nor forsake you" (verses 6 - 8).

Courage flows from God's promise, not only human strength.

Moses writes the Torah and gives it to the priests and elders (verses 9, 24–26). It is to be read publicly every seven years at the Feast of Tabernacles (verses 10–13)

There is a prophetic aspect in our Torah reading. God knows that Israel is not going to stay faithful even after they cross the Jordan River and settle in the land. God tells Moses: after his death, Israel will go astray, serve other gods, and break the covenant (vv. 16–18). God will hide His face because of their sins.

The Torah and the "Song of Moses" (ch. 32) will stand as a witness up to the last days of this earth that God was faithful to keep his promises and give Israel the land that was promised to Abraham. This is why in the book of Revelation, when the saints are gathered before the throne of the Messiah, the songs that the saints will sing are the Song of the Lamb and the Song of Moses, describing the victory of God and his people forever.

Chapter 32:1 starts one of the most important chapters for understanding the Apostle Paul and all of his theology. As you can see from the first verses of chapter 32 of Deuteronomy, it is also called "The Song of Moses."

"Then Moses spoke in the hearing of all the assembly of Israel the words of this song until they were ended:" (Deuteronomy 31:30 NKJV)

Deuteronomy 32 is a court case. God is taking Israel to court to judge them for their unfaithfulness. Here are the words of Moses from Deuteronomy chapter 32:1:

"Give ear, O heavens, and I will speak: And hear, O earth, the words of my mouth. 2 Let my teaching drop as the rain, my speech distills as the dew, as raindrops on the tender herb, And as showers on the grass.

Moses is opening a court case against Israel. He invites the heavens and the Earth to be the judges. We must remember that these are the last words of Moses to the children of Israel before he goes up the mountain and dies there. These are potent words of accusation against the children of Israel. I would have thought that for his last words, Moses should have spoken in the defence of the children of Israel. But no, Moses brings powerful accusations against the children of Israel, accusations that those who today are guilty of antisemitism could use against Israel. In fact, this morning I heard a young preacher speak very harshly against today's Israel. Fortunately, there was a young man in the crowd who brought this young pastor to order and forced this young buck to confess that he was wrong.

Like a good lawyer, Moses speaks compliments and praises the Lord (The judge). He butters up God with these words: He is the Rock, His work is perfect; For all His ways are justice, A God of truth and without injustice; Righteous and upright is He.

Here is the accusation that Moses brings against Israel:

"They have corrupted themselves; They are not His children, because of their blemish: A perverse and crooked generation." (Deuteronomy 32:4-5 NKJV).

Of course, Moses is speaking the truth, but I would think that since he was the leader and the head authority over Israel during those 40 years of wandering in the wilderness, he should have taken some of the guilt and confessed that he didn't do the best job leading them on the right path. But he is Moses, and who am I to have criticism of Moses?

The accusations that Moses brings before the judges, the Heavens, and the Earth are very harsh and no doubt true. Then, in verse 6, Moses, with some self-righteousness, turns to the people of Israel with these words:

Do you thus deal with the LORD, O foolish and unwise people? Is He not your Father, who bought you? Has He not made you and established you? "Remember the days of old, Consider the years of many generations. Ask your father, and he will show you; Your elders, and they will tell you: When the Most High divided their inheritance to the nations, When He separated the sons of Adam, He set the boundaries of the peoples According to the number of the children of Israel. For the LORD'S portion is His people; Jacob is the place of His inheritance. "He found him in a desert land and in the wasteland, a howling wilderness; He encircled him, He instructed him, He kept him as the apple of His eye. As an eagle stirs up its nest, Hovers over its young, spreading out its wings, taking them up, carrying them on its wings, So the LORD alone led him, and there was no foreign god with him." (Deuteronomy 32:6-12 NKJV).

Moses justifies God's actions with Israel. He reminds Israel that God has taken care of them and has not introduced them to foreign gods. He reminds the children of Israel that God kept them and took care of them as the apple of His own eye. He uses another metaphor to describe the relationship between God and Israel.

From 32:12 and down is the section that is most important to understand the Apostle Paul's theology of Israel and the church.

"He made him ride in the heights of the earth, that he might eat the produce of the fields; He made him draw honey from the rock, and oil from the flinty rock. Curds from the cattle, and milk of the flock, with fat of lambs; And rams of the breed of Bashan, and goats, With the choicest wheat; And you drank wine, the blood of the grapes. "But Jeshurun grew fat and kicked; You grew fat, you grew thick, You are obese! Then he forsook God who made him and scornfully esteemed the Rock of his salvation. They provoked Him to jealousy with foreign gods; With abominations they provoked Him to anger. They sacrificed to demons, not to God, to gods they did not know, to new gods, new arrivals that your fathers did not fear. Of the Rock who begot you, you are unmindful and have forgotten the God who fathered you. "And when the LORD saw it, He spurned them, because of the provocation of His sons and His daughters. And He said: "I will hide My face from them, I will see what their end will be, For they are a perverse generation, Children in whom there is no faith. They have provoked Me to jealousy by what is not God; They have moved Me to anger by their foolish idols. But I will provoke them to jealousy by those who are not a nation; I will move them to anger by a foolish nation. For a fire is kindled in My anger and shall burn to the lowest hell; It shall consume the earth with her increase and set on fire the foundations of the mountains. "I will heap disasters on them; I will spend My arrows on them." (Deuteronomy 32:13-23 NKJV)

To understand this text, first read Romans 11 from the beginning to the end, and if you are not clear about what you read, please reread it and then read Deuteronomy 32 6 - 22. You will see the connection and the motives that Paul uses are connected and taken from our chapter 32 of Deuteronomy. Also, the verse that promises that "ALL ISRAEL WILL BE SAVED."

Please note that the salvation of Israel is dependent on the fullness of the Gentiles. It means that the work that we are doing in Netivyah and Netivyah International is connected and dependent on the fullness of the Gentiles. Whatever that fullness of the Gentiles means, it means that the Gentiles must have a part in the salvation of the Jewish nation.

I hope you, dear brothers and sisters, take a part in the salvation of Israel and see the fulfillment of Paul's promises of the salvation of all of Israel and rejoice for every soul that is saved, but especially the Jewish people. Since this is Paul's prophetic promise, it is not finished being fulfilled. We are working on this every day.

 Pray for Adam’s father and mother, Barry and Dalia. They have some health problems and challenges.

 Pray for Miriam a dear sister old age dementia.

 Pray for Um Mahmud Abu-Eid, Jimmy Abu-Eid, and all of the family. This is a dear family of old friends that needs healing and wisdom for the children and for their work.

 I visited Mauno Lemponen and he is in good spirits. He shares that I can feel the love and prayers from around the world in his daily life. He has been diagnosed with cancer in advanced stages. We are asking for God‘s Will to be done, giving him healthy days with family—prayers for Hilka, Miika, and Ester, who support each other.

 Keijo and Salme are doing well. Both Keijo and Salme need your prayers for their health issues.

 Roberto has reached out on behalf of his friend Nicoletta B whose father has passed way recently. Please pray for her spirit as she struggles with such loss.

In Denmark:

 Cynthia M asked that you for praying for her health. She has neutropenia and chronic asthma and I has been undergoing biological treatment with injections every two weeks since 2021 so I ask you to pray for better results and better health conditions as the symptoms, respiratory infections, medications and injections make me very tired every day.

In Ethiopia:

 Diu G. has been sick with meningitis and he and his family are all in need of prayers for strength and healing to help him.

In Brazil:

 Ismael V ask for prayers for his parents: Ismael V 80 years old (Father) & Margarida Feliciana V, 75 years old (Mother). The mother has been suffering due to medical errors since 2008, and only a miracle can solve the situation. The father has prostate and vision problems.

 Max is anxious waiting for a court decision regarding documentation on his families jewish roots. Please keep Max and the courts outcome in your prayers.

 Pray for a dear young man, Paulo, from Curitiba, Brazil, who seriously needs our prayers for sanity and mental health.

 Pray for a dear sister named Claudia Rita Souze Arau. She has cancer and needs God’s healing hands to touch her with healing.

 Pray for Fatima Maria Docarmo Guimararaes - pray for her health and her granddaughters’ twin babies.

 Guilherme Antonio Nothen Becker is suffering from back problems.

 Aratuza de Oliveira and his wife. Pray for their 3-year-old child, Caique de Oliveira Becker, who has severe problems with his eyes, and ask the Lord to give healing to his eyes.

 Irina L. is in need of a kidney transplant. her kidney is beginning to fail and is only 26% functioning. Prayer for a suitable donor and wisdom for the doctors and medical team to maintain her kidney functions. (Irina is the twin sister of pastor Serge from Kazakhstan.

 update Hester H in Virginia is in Beth's aunt and is back in the Hospital. pray for the doctors to find whats causing her fluid buildup issues.

 new Charlotte W has had a mild stroke and is currently in the hospital. prayer for recovery.

 Gary H is awaiting a surgery for a hernia (the schedule is backed up with the doctor). He is in discomfort. We are praying for comfort and a successful surgery and recovery.

 Elisheva’s husband is recovering from a fourth surgery. on September 23 he will have a 5th surgery. Also prayer for healing for Elisheva's left leg and hip joint healing. Also a interview next week for a new job.

 Adam B. is asking for prayers for job security. The hatchet job cutting that is taking place in the USA is not without families that are impacted. Please keep Adam and his family in prayers for job security.

 Manny is asking for prayers for his fathers health that is in decline.

 update Jenny is going to have some medical evaluations. asking for prayers for the best outcome that will not impact her current life plans.

 Shawn a maintenance person the Shirleyann knows has a serious psychiatric episode and is in need of prayer

 I spoke with Shirleyann. will be going for a test for skin cancer tomorrow. Her insomnia is not behaving and has not been sleeping well. Her kidneys are not doing well and so is her heart. Please pray for her health to improve.

 Jordan Issac - prayer for his treatments to work. Prayer for a mentor to step in and support him in his search for the Lord.

 Pete and Marge. Marge is undergoing test for Brest cancer and they are in the process of trying to get legal guardianship of their grandkids. They are both in the mid 80s. Please pray for strength and longevity to get these kids past college age.

 Jose needs your prayers for a blessing on his marriage to grow stronger and prayers for the birth of a Son.

 Aida Ramirez 99 yrs old broke her right hip and has had surgery. she is still in rehabilitation however she is not walking yet. Please keep her in prayer for continued progress and restoration of walking.

 Aida Gonzalez needs prayers as the is the main caretaker of her mother Aida. She is visiting her mother daily and trying to keep a household. Please pray for strength and congregations support.

 Pat S pain management has improved with some shots. Keep Philip who is 89 and is caring for Pat in you prayers.

 Larry is asking for prayers for his grandchildren. I would say most of us that have grandchildren are concerned about the states of the world. The state of intolerance. The temptations out there. Please pray for the holy sprit to guide them in making good choices.

 Juli got a good report on her last scan and she is also in remission. So praise God both Bill and Jill are in remission. Give thanks to the Lord for he is Good.

 Barbra and Angie in Alaska. Barbra has some pains and discomfort related to old age. Please lift them in prayer for strength and reduction in pain.

 Please pray for Danah, my daughter's health issues. I pray for the Lord to give Danah wisdom, peace, and calm in life and her work.

 Aaron Hook, Nancy Hook’s oldest son, needs our prayers for wisdom and healing from past life issues.

 Pray for Steve Mock - His cognitive condition has declined, and we ask for the grace of God and His Healing and strength. Steve and Josie’s son Joseph has received a wonderful and glorious report. After the last bone marrow transplant, the report is that the doctors didn’t find any leukemia in his body! Praise the Lord!
