온전히 기쁘게 여기라 내 형제들아 너희가 여러 가지 시험을 당하거든 온전히 기쁘게 여기라 이는 너희 믿음의 시련이 인내를 만들어 내는 줄 너희가 앎이라 - 야고보서 1:2-3 히브리서 4:15에 기록된 바와 같이, 예슈아께서는 모든 일에 우리와 똑같이 시험을 받으셨으되 죄는 없으십니다. 그런데, 예슈아께서 두려움을 느끼셨을까요? 이 질문은 저를 예슈아께서 겟세마네에서 기도하시던 때로 데려갑니다. 그곳에서 그분은 그분의 세 제자에게 깨어 있어 기도하라고 말씀하시고 그들과 멀지 않은 곳에서 기도하셨습니다. 예슈아께서 집중하여 기도하시는 동안, 그분의 땀은 핏방울 같이 되었고(눅 22:44) 그분의 마음은 ‘심히 고민하여 죽게’ 되었습니다(막 14:32-36). 그 순간 예슈아께서는 두려움과 스트레스를 느끼셨습니다. 그분의 마음은 큰 슬픔을 아주 강하게 느껴 사람으로서 거의 무너질 지경이었습니다. 예슈아께서는 겟세마네를 선택하셨는데요, 그 이유는 그곳이 올리브유(감람유)를 짜는 곳이었기 때문입니다. 이 기름 짜는 과정에는 올리브가 으깨지고 갈아져서 올리브에서 기름이 나올 때까지 큰 압력을 가하는 과정이 있습니다. 예슈아께서 기도를 마치시고 그분의 제자들에게 돌아오시어 그들이 자고 있는 것을 보셨을 때 그분은 그들을 깨우셨는데 한 번도 아니고 세 번이나 그렇게 하셨습니다. 그분께서는 그들에게 “어찌하여 자느냐? 시험에 들지 않게 일어나 기도하라” 말씀하셨습니다(눅 22:46). 예슈아께서 말씀하신 시험이란 우리가 준비되어 있지 않을 때 오는 삶의 도전들입니다. 예를 들어, 베드로가 기도했더라면, 그는 예슈아를 체포하러 온 성전 호위병 중 한 명의 귀를 자른 것 같이 반응하지 않았을 것입니다. 도리어, 그는 이것이 예슈아께서 가셔야 하는 길이라는 것을 이해했을 것입니다. 제자들이 직면한 시험은 강력했습니다. 우리 각 사람도 여러 가지 시험을 당합니다(약 1:2). 우리가 죽을 지경까지 느끼는 두려움과 슬픔과 불행과 고통과 쓰라림을 극복하는 방법은 우리 속사람을 기도로 채우는 것, 즉 기도 생활입니다. 기도는 믿는 자가, 비록 우리가 이 세상에 속하지 않았지만, 이 세상에서 굳게 서는 데에 있어서 아주 중요합니다(요 17:14). -------------------------------------------------------
Count It All Joy My brethren, count it all joy when you fall into various trials, knowing that the testing of your faith produces patience. James 1:2 As written in Hebrews 4:15, Yeshua was temped in all ways just as we are yet He did not sin. However, did Yeshua experience fear? This question takes me to when Yeshua was praying in Gethsemane, not far from three of his disciples which he had asked to watch in prayer. During Yeshua's time of intense prayer, his sweat was like drops of blood (Luke 22:44) and his soul was 'bitter unto death'. (Mark 14:32-36). Yeshua at that moment experienced fear and stress; his heart filled with great sorrow so strong that he was close to breaking on the human level. Yeshua chose Gethsemane because it was a place where olive oil was processed. This process involves great pressure until the olives are crushed and ground and the oil is pressed from the olives. When Yeshua finished his prayer and returned to his disciples and saw that they were sleeping he woke them up not once but three times. He asked them, “Why are you sleeping?” “Get up and pray so that you will not fall into temptation.” Luke 22:46 The temptation the Yeshua speaks of is that which comes with the challenges of life when we are not prepared. For example, had Peter been in prayer, he would not have reacted to the temple guards which came to arrest Yeshua by cutting of the ear of one of the guards. Instead, he would have understood that this was a path Yeshua was meant to take. The temptations faced by the disciples were intense. Each of us are also faced with various types of temptations. (James 1:2) The way for us to overcome fear, sorrow, grief, pain and bitterness unto death, is to fill our inner man with prayer - a lifestyle of prayer. Prayer is vital for the believer to stand firm while in this world although 'we are not of this world'. (John 17:14) |
