지난 안식일에 전 세계 회당들에서는 야곱이 그의 아들들 열두 지파를 축복하면서 창세기 읽기를 끝냈습니다! 출애굽기는 이스라엘의 열두 지파의 이름들로 시작됩니다. 이번 안식일 토라 포션부터는 성경의 두 번째 책, 히브리어로 “셰모트(이름들)”라고 부르는 출애굽기입니다. 출애굽기의 첫 구절들은 다음과 같이 시작됩니다:

“야곱과 함께 각각 자기 가족을 데리고 애굽에 이른 이스라엘 아들들의 이름은 이러하니 르우벤과 시므온과 레위와 유다와 잇사갈과 스불론과 베냐민과 단과 납달리와 갓과 아셀이요 야곱의 허리에서 나온 사람이 모두 칠십이요 요셉은 애굽에 있었더라”

이번 안식일 토라 포션은 출애굽기(히브리어로 셰모트) 1:1~6:1입니다.

선지서에서 읽는 말씀은 이사야 27:6~28:13, 29:22-23입니다.

신약성경에서 읽는 말씀은 마태복음 2:1-11입니다.

창세기에서 출애굽기로 넘어가면서 장면의 변화가 뚜렷하고, 창세기와 출애굽기 사이의 유전자가 다릅니다. 의미심장한 것은 우리가 한 가족사의 영웅 개개인의 이야기에서 훨씬 더 크고 더 역동적인 어떤 것으로 옮겨가고 있다는 것입니다. 하나님께서는 더 이상 개개인의 하나님이 아니십니다. 그분께서는 이제 한 족장을 세우는 일에서 한 민족의 도전으로 옮겨가시는 것입니다. 이 민족은 열두 지파로 이루어져 있지만, 공통된 숙명의 끈과 공통된 집단적 문제와 하나님께서 이스라엘(야곱)의 모든 아들들을 위해 지명하신 공통된 구원자로 말미암아 하나로 연결된 열두 지파 개개인들의 연합체입니다. 첫 장에서 우리는 다음 구절을 볼 수 있습니다:

“요셉과 그의 모든 형제와 그 시대의 사람은 다 죽었고 이스라엘 자손은 생육하고 불어나 번성하고 매우 강하여 온 땅에 가득하게 되었더라” (출애굽기 1:6-7)

이 두 구절은 창세기와 그 외 성경의 여러 책들 간의 서사의 차이를 가져오는 새로운 유전자로 뛰어드는 발판입니다. 지파들이 있습니다. 그들은 없어지지 않았지만, 더 이상 고유하지 않습니다. 그들은 민족이라는 집단 안의 개개인들입니다. 그래서 출애굽기 본문은 그들을 “이스라엘 자손”으로 취급합니다. 또한, 더 큰 그림도 극적으로 변하고 있습니다. 여기서부터는 지파들이 집단적이기도 합니다. 다음 구절의 바로의 말은 쇄도하며 성장하는 민족으로 인식되는 집단으로서의 이스라엘의 시작을 강조하고 있습니다:

“요셉을 알지 못하는 새 왕이 일어나 애굽을 다스리더니 그가 그 백성에게 이르되 이 백성 이스라엘 자손이 우리보다 많고 강하도다 자, 우리가 그들에게 대하여 지혜롭게 하자 두렵건대 그들이 더 많게 되면 전쟁이 일어날 때에 우리 대적과 합하여 우리와 싸우고 이 땅에서 나갈까 하노라 하고” (출애굽기 1:8-10)

위대한 바로는 갑자기 악몽에서 깨어 히브리 노예 집단에게서 위협을 느끼고 있는 것입니다. 불과 몇 년 전만 해도 이 히브리 노예 민족은 요셉 때문에 다른 바로에게서는 환영을 받고 애굽의 가장 좋은 땅인 고센 땅에서 손님으로 대우받았습니다.

이 바로는 무엇 때문에 마음을 바꿔 처음에는 너그러이 영접하여 나일 삼각주의 고센 땅에 정착하도록 예우한 요셉의 가족에 대해 상황을 역전시켰을까요? 이 바로의 확신이 된 것은 외국인 혐오, 혹은 더 쉽게 말해, 그냥 인종적 편견, 인종차별주의, 열등감에서 기인한 두려움, 낮은 자존감과 확신에서 기인한 두려움입니다.

이런 일들은 출애굽기 이 본문과 관계 있을 뿐만 아니라, 오늘날 몇 나라와 네덜란드 헤이그 국제사법재판소 같은 국제 기구에서도 일어나고 있는 일과도 관계 있습니다. 반-유대주의는 궁극적으로 바로가 감염되었던 바로 그 두려움, 열등감과 이기심과 불안감에서 기인한 외국인 혐오를 보여주는 것입니다. 당시 애굽의 왕은 동쪽으로는 이집트만에서부터 남쪽으로는 빅토리아 호수와 서쪽으로는 튀니지까지 아프리카의 거의 삼분의 일을 다스리는 통치자였습니다. 그런데 그를 가장 괴롭히는 것은 나일 삼각주 서쪽 고센 땅에 살고 있는 애굽 사람이 아닌, 몇 안 되는 적은 무리의 히브리 사람들이었습니다. 바로에게 외국인들은 두려움과 불안 때문에 믿지 못할 존재들이었습니다.

친애하는 형제님들, 우리는 경계하는 것이 좋을 것입니다. 우리 지도자들의 비이성적인 두려움이 또 다시 그냥 순진하게 자기 자녀와 손자녀에게 기회의 삶과 더 나은 미래를 원하는 소수 그룹 사람들에게 재앙과 불의와 홀로코스트를 초래할 수 있기 때문입니다. 바로의 두려움과 공포에 대한 해결책은 이스라엘 가족들에 태어난 남아들을 없애는 것이었습니다. 유대인 아기를 멸절시키는 방법은 간단했는데요, 히브리 아기들 출산을 돕도록 임명된 산파들에게 출산 과정 중에 남아들을 죽이라는 명령을 했던 것입니다. 친애하는 형제님들, 이 일에서 우리는 인간 본성의 가장 좋은 부분을 봅니다. 인간 본성 중 신적 본성을 일깨우는 것인데요, 인간 영혼의 이 신적 본성은 “아니야!” - “나는 정부에 협력하여 불의와 공포의 일부가 되지 않을 거야!” - “나는 옳고 의롭고 인간적인 일을 하고 이 불복 때문에 내 목이 날아가더라도 정부의 악을 따르지 않을 거야!”라고 말합니다.

동시에 이 장면 배후에서는 하나님께서 레위 가문의 히브리 자녀 중에서 구원자를 준비하고 계셨습니다. 이 아이는 태어난 후 애굽의 비밀 보안 당국의 장관이 임명한 비밀 경찰에게서 숨겨 살려 둔 아이였습니다. 바로의 왕궁 안에 하나님께서는 바로의 가족 중에서 비밀 요원을 심어두셨는데, 바로의 딸이었습니다. 그녀의 이름은 바트-야인데요, 여호와의 딸이라는 이름입니다. 킹제임스흠정역에는 바로의 딸 비디아라고 적고 있습니다. 성경에 이렇게 적혀 있습니다:

“이는 메렛이 아내로 맞은 바로의 딸 비디아의 아들들이며 또 그의 아내 여후디야는 그돌의 조상 예렛과 소고의 조상 헤벨과 사노아의 조상 여구디엘을 낳았으며” (역대상 4:18)

훨씬 더 간단히 적절한 결론에 이를 수도 있을 것입니다: 바로의 딸이 시녀들과 함께 목욕하러 나일강으로 갔습니다. 그녀는 혼자 나일강물에 들어갔습니다. 그녀의 시녀들은 물가를 따라 걸어가고 있지만 물 속으로 들어가지는 않았습니다. 나일강은 세계에서 가장 안전한 강 중 하나는 아닙니다. 물뱀도 있고, 큰 악어도 있고, 다른 위험한 동물도 있습니다. 왜 바로의 딸의 시녀들은 물 밖에 있고 비디아만 혼자 물 속으로 들어갔을까요? 그 답은 오직 하나, 그녀가 월경 후 정결례를 하고 있었던 것입니다.

히브리 아기가 든 방수 처리를 한 바구니가 떠다니고 있었고, 비디아가 그 바구니를 잡아 그 바구니 안에 든 것을 보고 즉시 말합니다: “이 아이는 히브리 아기다!” 바로의 딸이 어떻게 그 남아가 히브리 아기인 줄 알았을까요? 저는 그녀가 그냥 재미로 한가로운 산책을 하며 히브리 노예 진영을 돌아다니지 않았을까 생각해 봅니다! 그리고 증거는 그녀가 히브리 노예 민족을 돕거나 어쩌면 그들과 그들의 유일신, 천지의 창조주에 대한 믿음에 대해 더 배우려고 그들을 찾아갈 기회가 있었다는 것입니다! 출애굽기는 이 의문에 대해 분명한 답을 주지는 않습니다. 히브리 성경은 우리에게 “하나님의 딸(바트-야)”이라고 부르는 이 애굽 공주에게 무슨 일이 일어났는지 드러내 주기 위해 출애굽기에서 히브리 성경의 마지막 책인 역대기로 뛰어 넘어갑니다. 유대 전승과 요세푸스 플라비우스의 유대사 같은 고대 문헌에 의하면, 바로의 딸이 출애굽 때 이스라엘 자손에 합류했다고 합니다. 그녀는 다른 이스라엘 사람들처럼 마른 땅으로 홍해를 건넜습니다. 이 “바트-야”가 이 아기에게 준 이름은 명확합니다: 모(물) 세스(~의 아들), 즉 물의 아들이라는 것입니다!

구원 역사를 바꾼 또 다른 의미심장한 사건은 모세가 바로의 왕궁을 떠나 달아난 후 겪은 일입니다. 그는 애굽으로부터의 도망자로서 시내광야로 도피하여 미디안의 이교 제사장인 이드로의 양떼를 치는 양치기가 되었습니다. 이드로의 양떼를 치는 동안 양 한 마리가 달아나 호렙산에 오릅니다. 선한 목자가 그렇듯이, 모세는 아흔아홉 양떼를 남겨두고 위험하고 가파르고 거친 땅으로 달아난 어린 양을 구하러 달려갑니다. 여기에서 모세는 이상한 현상을 봅니다: 떨기나무가 완전히 불에 휩싸여 있는데, 불 타고 있지는 않는 것입니다. 모세는 호기심에 그 타고 있는 떨기나무 가까이 다가갑니다. 그는 그것이 뭔지 보고 이 떨기나무가 왜 불 타고 있지 않는 것인지 알아보고 싶었던 것입니다.

여기 거친 시내광야에서 하나님께서는 모세에게 대면하여 직접 자신을 드러내시고 전에 애굽 왕자였으나 지금은 애굽 사람들이 가장 싫어하는 직업인 양치기로 일하고 있는 이 모세에게 임무를 주십니다. 모세는 이스라엘의 전능하신 하나님께서 그에게 주시는 임무, 애굽으로 내려가서 그분의 백성을 종살이에서 구원해 해방시키고 히브리 민족의 조상들에게 주신 땅, 약속된 가나안 땅, 남쪽으로 애굽강에서부터 북쪽으로 요단강 수원까지의 땅으로 돌아가라는 임무를 가벼이 받아들이지 않습니다. 모세는 마지못해 그 임무를 받아들이고 강력한 도구 두 개, 나무 지팡이와 결점이 있는 말더듬이를 취합니다. 모세는 히브리인들을 애굽에서 구출하는 일에 아론을 보좌관이자 동역자로 받습니다. 모세는 이 도구 두 개를 가지고 애굽에 있는 히브리 자손의 남아들을 죽이라는 명령을 내린 바로 앞에 섭니다.

이번 토라 포션 “셰모트”(출애굽기)에서 또 다른 짧은 논평은, 제가 오랜 세월 하나님의 방법의 의미와 함의를 읽고 연구해온, 하나님께서 민족들 사이에서 역사하시는 방법들이 제게 아주 흥미롭다는 것입니다. 영어에서는 하나님께서 사용하시는 방법과 수단들을 재앙이라고 부릅니다. 히브리어에서는 “마코트” - “타격” - “때림”이라고 부르고, 저는 “아스피린”이라고 부릅니다. 이것은 제가 제 아들을 훈육해야 했을 때 제 허리띠로 때린 것과 같은 것입니다!

하나님의 불변의 본성에서 참된 사랑은 훈육 없이는 불가능합니다. 하나님께서는 그분의 세상을 너무 사랑하셔서, 우리 죄인들을 구하시기 위해 우리를 위해 희생제물 어린양이 되시기로 선택하신 그분이 특별히 사랑하시는 아들을 보내셨습니다.

우리 모두는 히브리서의 다음 말씀을 결코 잊어서는 안 됩니다!

“그러므로 우리는 들은 것에 더욱 유념함으로 우리가 흘러 떠내려가지 않도록 함이 마땅하니라 천사들을 통하여 하신 말씀이 견고하게 되어 모든 범죄함과 순종하지 아니함이 공정한 보응을 받았거든 우리가 이같이 큰 구원을 등한히 여기면 어찌 그 보응을 피하리요 이 구원은 처음에 주로 말씀하신 바요 들은 자들이 우리에게 확증한 바니 하나님도 표적들과 기사들과 여러 가지 능력과 및 자기의 뜻을 따라 성령이 나누어 주신 것으로써 그들과 함께 증언하셨느니라” (히브리서 2:1-4)

하지 말아야 할 일과 어떻게 하나님과 그분의 명령에 반항하지 말아야 하는지에 대해서 바로의 실수와 완고한 태도로부터 교훈을 얻으시기 바랍니다!

심지어 아들 이삭을 제물로 바치라는 하나님의 요구에도 항상 하나님께 “히네니-주님, 제가 주님의 명령을 따를 준비를 하고 여기 있습니다!” 말했던 아브라함처럼, 히네니는 이 땅에서의 복된 삶과 천국에서 하나님의 존전에서 확실한 영원한 기쁨을 얻을 수 있는 유일한 공식입니다!

The Jerusalem Prayer List – 17 January, 2025

Last Shabbat in the synagogues around the world, the reading of Genesis ended with Jacob blessing the twelve tribes – his children! The beginning of the reading of the book of Exodus starts with the names of the twelve tribes of Israel. This Shabbat's reading now from the second book of the Bible, Exodus in Hebrew, is called Shemot – that is the "names." The first verse of Exodus starts with the following:

"Now these are the names of the children of Israel who came to Egypt; each man and his household came with Jacob: Reuben, Simeon, Levi, and Judah; Issachar, Zebulun, and Benjamin; Dan, Naphtali, Gad, and Asher. All those who were descendants of Jacob were seventy persons (for Joseph was in Egypt already)."

The Torah reading for this Shabbat is from Exodus (in Hebrew Shemot) 1:1-6:1.

From the Prophets, the reading is from Isaiah 27:6-28:13, 29:22-23.

The New Testament reading is from Matthew 2:1-11.

Jumping from Genesis to Exodus makes it clear that there is a change of scenery, and the DNA differs between Genesis and Exodus. Significantly, we are moving from the story of individual heroes of a family affair to something much bigger and more dynamic. God is no longer the God of individuals. He now moves from a patriarchal setting to the challenges of a nation. This nation is made of tribes, but with a coalition of 12 individuals united by a bond of a common destiny, by common collective problems, and by a common savior appointed by God for all the sons of Jacob as one united child of Israel (Jacob). In the first chapter, we find the following phrase:

"And Joseph died, all his brothers, and all that generation. But the children of Israel were fruitful and increased abundantly, multiplied and grew exceedingly mighty; and the land was filled with them." (Exodus 1:6-7 NKJV)

These two verses are the jumping board into a new DNA for the narrative differences between the book of Genesis and the rest of the Bible. The tribes exist. They don't disappear, but they are no longer indigenous; they are individuals inside a national collective, and that is how the text of Exodus treats them as "the children of Israel." Also, the bigger picture changes dramatically. From here on, the tribes are also a collective. The words of Pharaoh in the following verse emphasize the beginning of Israel as a collective that flows and grows and is perceived as a treat to the nations around Israel:

"Now there arose a new king over Egypt, who did not know Joseph. And he said to his people, "Look, the people of the children of Israel are more and mightier than we; come, let us deal shrewdly with them, lest they multiply, and it happen, in the event of war, that they also join our enemies and fight against us, and so go up out of the land." (Exodus 1:8-10 NKJV).

The great Pharaoh suddenly wakes up from a nightmare and feels threatened by this group of Hebrew Slaves. Just a few years earlier, these Hebrew enslaved people were welcomed by another Pharaoh for Joseph's sake and supported as guests in the best land of Egypt, the land of Goshen.

What changed the heart of this Pharaoh and turned the tables on the family of Joseph, who was initially received graciously and honored to settle in the land of Goshen on the Nile Delta? The thing that took over this Pharaoh's confidence is called xenophobia or, in simpler language, plain racial prejudice, racism, fear based on an inferiority complex, a fear based on weak self-respect and confidence.

These things are not only connected to the present text of Exodus but also to what I see happening in several countries and international institutions, like the International Court of Injustice in the Haag, in Holland. Antisemitism is the ultimate expression of this same fear that the Pharaoh of Egypt was infected with, the xenophobia based on an inferiority complex, selfishness, and an insecure heart and soul. The King of Egypt at that period was the ruler of about one-third of Africa, from the Gulf of Egypt in the east to Lake Victoria in the south and to Tunisia in the west. But what bothered him most was that a small group of a few thousand Hebrews were living in the west of the Nile delta in the land of Goshen, and they were not Egyptians. For Pharaoh, foreigners can't be trusted because of his fears and insecurity.

We better watch out, dear brothers, because the irrational fears of our leaders could again cause a disaster and injustice and holocaust to some group of people who innocently want to have a life of opportunities and a better future for their children and grandchildren. Pharaoh's solution to his fears and paranoia was the elimination of the male babies born to Israelite families. The method of elimination of the Jewish babies was simple – the midwives appointed to help with the birth of the Hebrew babies were ordered to kill the male babies during the birth process. In this account, dear brothers and sisters, we witness the best part of human nature. The part that wakes up the divine nature of humans – the divine nature of the human soul that says "NO!" – "I will not cooperate even with my government and be a part of this injustice and horror!" "I will do what is right and just and humane and not obey the evil of my government even if I have to pay for this civil disobedience with my own life!"

At the same time, behind the scenes, God is preparing a savior, a deliverer of the Hebrew Children in the house of Levi, a baby born and saved and hidden from the secret police appointed by the minister of the Egyptian civil security office. In the palace of the Pharaoh, God planted a secret agent right from the Pharaoh's own family: the daughter of the Pharaoh. Her name is BAT-YAH – Jehovah's daughter's name. In the King James Bible, the English spelling is Bithyah, the daughter of Pharaoh. So, it is written in the Bible:

"(His wife Jehudijah bore Jered the father of Gedor, Heber the father of Sochoh, and Jekuthiel the father of Zanoah.) And these were the sons of Bathiah the daughter of Pharaoh, whom Mered took." (1 Chronicles 4:18 NKJV).

One could come to the proper conclusion in a much simpler way: The daughter of Pharaoh went to the Nile River to bathe with her handmaids. She enters the water of the Nile River alone. Her handmaid's walk along the water but don't get into the water. The Nile River is not one of the safest rivers in the world. There are water snakes, big alligators, and other dangerous creatures. Why do the handmaids of the daughter of the Pharaoh stay out of the water, and Bathiah enters the water alone? The answer is only one: she purified herself after her monthly period.

The waterproofed basket with a Hebrew baby is floating by, and she, Bathiah (God's daughter), takes the basket, reveals the content of this floating basket, and immediately says: "This is a Hebrew Baby!" How could the daughter of the Pharaoh identify the baby boy as a Hebrew baby? I doubt that she went running around the camps of the Hebrew enslaved people to take a peaceful stroll just for fun! But the evidence is that she found opportunities to visit these Hebrew enslaved people to help them or maybe to learn more about them and their faith in One God, Creator of Heaven and Earth! The text of Exodus doesn't give a clear answer to this question. The Hebrew Bible jumps from the book of Exodus to the last book in the Hebrew Bible, the book of Chronicles, to reveal to us what happened to this Egyptian princess called "God's daughter" Bat-Yah. According to Jewish tradition and ancient literature, such as Josephus Flavius's History of the Jews, Pharaoh's daughter joined the children of Israel in their Exodus from Egypt. She crossed the Red Sea on dry land like the rest of the Israelites. The name that this Bat-Yah gave to this baby is clear: Mo (water) Ses, "son of" = The son of the water!

Another significant event that changes the history of salvation is Moses's experience after he runs away from the palace of the Pharaoh. He escapes to the Sinai Desert and becomes a fugitive from Egypt, a shepherd for the flocks of Jethro, and a pagan priest of Median. While shepherding Jethro's flocks, a sheep runs away up to Mount Horeb. Like a good shepherd, Moses leaves the 99 sheep and runs to save the one little sheep running away in a dangerous, steep, mountainous terrain. Here, Moses sees a strange phenomenon: a bush burning fully engulfed in fire and not being consumed. Moses' curiosity brings him close to this burning bush. He wants to see what it is and understand how this burning bush is not being consumed.

Here in the harsh desert of Sinai, God reveals Himself to Moses one-on-one, personally, and commissions this former prince of Egypt, now working in the profession most hated by the Egyptians, being a Shepherd of Sheep. Moses doesn't lightly accept the commission that the Almighty God of Israel is commanding him: go down to Egypt and deliver His people from slavery to freedom and return them to the land given to the fathers of the Hebrew nation, a promise of the land of Canaan, from the river of Egypt in the south to the top sources of the river Jordan in the north. Moses reluctantly accepts the commission and takes two powerful tools: a wooden staff and an imperfect stutterer. Moses is given his older brother Aaron as an aid and a partner in delivering the Hebrews out of Egypt. With these two tools, Moses stands in front of the Pharaoh, who ordered the killing of the male babies of the Hebrew children in Egypt.

Another short note from our reading of the Torah portion of Shemot (Exodus): the methods of God to function among the nations are very interesting to me, and I have read and studied the meaning and implications of God's methods for years. In English, the ways and means that God uses are called plagues. In Hebrew, they are called MAKOT "strikes" – "hits" – or, as I call them, "aspirins." Like when I had to educate my son with my belt!

In God's immutable nature, true love is not possible without discipline. Because God loves His world so much, He sent His especially beloved Son to save us sinners by choosing to be a sacrificial lamb for our sake.

We all must never forget the following text from the book of Hebrews!

"Therefore, we must give the more earnest heed to the things we have heard, lest we drift away. For if the word spoken through angels proved steadfast, and every transgression and disobedience received a just reward, how shall we escape if we neglect so great a salvation, which at first began to be spoken by the Lord and was confirmed to us by those who heard Him, God also bearing witness both with signs and wonders, with various miracles, and gifts of the Holy Spirit, according to His own will?" (Hebrews 2:1-4 NKJV)

Learn from Pharaoh's mistakes and obstinate attitude about what not to do and how not to resist God and His commands!

Like Abraham, even when God requested that he sacrifice his son, Isaac, he always said to God, "HINNENI—Lord, Here I am ready to obey your command!" the only winning formula for a blessed life on Earth and a secure everlasting joy in God's presence in Heaven!

The Prayer List

This week has been a difficult and painful week for the body of believers in Israel. Mordechai & Meira Wisman are sitting shiva for their son Staff Sergeant Aviel Yosef Wiseman who was killed in Gaza on Sunday when a building his unit was in collapsed from an explosion. I remember Mordi and his brother and family. The cost of keeping the enemy's of Israel is high with the lives of young men and women. Please keep then Wiseman family in your prayers.

At the time I am writing this prayer list the news outlets in the USA are announcement that that partial hostage release will take place on Sunday. Hamas has not shared which of the hostages will be alive or dead. Please pray for a return of all the hostage to families. Please pray for the assimilation back into society to be guided by the hand of God.

The California fires are remind us that all that we own is temporary. Please keep the families in CA in your prayers and that the rains come and the winds change direction. I am working on finding out if there are specific families that I know that need assistance in the body of believers.

Your prayers for brothers and sisters you don’t know personally is a pure love and building of the Body of the Messiah. It is Agape Love since you are doing this without any selfish interests and casting a vote in heaven for someone who is your brother. Still, you don't know them, and God looks at these prayers that are unselfish and genuine expression of love and care for another link in the long chain of love and faith that binds us together even though we might not know each other in this world.

When we all get to Heaven, it will be a joy to meet people we prayed for and sometimes even cried for. Brothers and sisters who are physically strangers but spiritually a part of the same body of Christ, I believe that one day we will have the privilege to sit together and share: "I remember praying for you to be healed!" "I remember praying for you to be safe when you were fighting in Gaza to free the hostages from the cruel hands of the terrorists of the Hamas in Gaza."

Pray for the following brothers and sisters who need divine grace and the gentle touch of the hand of God for healing and strength.

 Pray for Um Mahmud Abu-Eid, Jimmy Abu-Eid, and all of the family. This is a dear family of old friends that needs healing and wisdom for the children and for their work.

 Please pray for the Romero family, who live deep in the Negev desert. It is hot there, and they are far from our congregation, and we miss them.

 Pray for Deborah Isaiah. I pray for the Lord to find Deborah Isaiah and lead her to a blessed life, family, and a solution to her problems.

In Finland:

 Mauno Lemponen has been diagnosed with cancer in advanced stages. We are asking for Gods Will to be done, giving him healthy days with family—prayers for Hilka, Miika, and Ester, who support each other.

 Pray for Keijo and Salme, our dear partners and fellow workers in God’s flock. Both Keijo and Salme have some challenging heart issues.

 Pray for Satu-Maria, Sinni Tuuli, Anne Mirjami, our dear sisters.

 Pray for Eva H., Patty, Andrea, Julia, Victor, Aaron Tani, and Hillel.

In Brazil:

 Max is anxious waiting for a court decision regarding documentation on his families jewish roots. Please keep Max and the courts outcome in your prayers.

 Pray for a dear young man, Paulo, from Curitiba, Brazil, who seriously needs our prayers for sanity and mental health.

 Pray for a dear sister named Claudia Rita Souze Arau. She has cancer and needs God’s healing hands to touch her with healing.

 Pray for Fatima Maria Docarmo Guimararaes - pray for her health and her granddaughters’ twin babies.

 Guilherme Antonio Nothen Becker is suffering from back problems.

 Aratuza de Oliveira and his wife. Pray for their 3-year-old child, Caique de Oliveira Becker, who has severe problems with his eyes, and ask the Lord to give healing to his eyes.

 Pray for Deborah Ruth, a dear sister from China.

 Pray for Sister Yoko Nagumo in Japan.

 Tony Tam, his wife Luisa, and his son Marco need special prayers for their situation.

In the United States of America:

 Shirleyann called to say thank you and share good new. still has health issues, please remember her need for healing of her kidney failure and other health needs.

 Jose needs your prayers for a blessing on his marriage to grow stronger and prayers for the birth of a Son.

 Aida Ramirez is 98 years old and suffering from first stages of dementia. Also her daughter Aida Gonzalez needs prayer for strength and Gods grace and protection as she is taking care of her mother.

 Pat S needs prayers as she is suffering memory loss, Philip her husband is a dedicated man of God who is caring for her diligently - please keep them both in prayers.

 Jerry Rogers - a long time prayer warier and supporter in Dallas has been diagnosed with cancer. he is starting treatments and we lift up his doctors and medical team & family in prayer.

 Larry is asking for prayers for his grandchildren. I would say most of us that have grandchildren are concerned about the states of the world. The state of intolerance. The temptations out there. Please pray for the holy sprit to guide them in making good choices.

 update Bill C. is down to the last Two treatments. Please pray a thanks to God and continue to ask for success of the treatments.

 Juli's scan results were clear. Please give a prayer of thanks.

 Brother Philip Slate and his wife. She is suffering from several physical and mental health challenges.

 Barbra and Angie in Alaska. Barbra has some pains and discomfort related to old age. Please lift them in prayer for strength and reduction in pain.

 Please pray for Danah, my daughter's health issues. I pray for the Lord to give Danah wisdom, peace, and calm in life and her work.

 Aaron Hook, Nancy Hook’s oldest son, needs our prayers for wisdom and healing from past life issues.

 Lift for blessing and healing Jonathan B., his wife Aviva, their new baby, his mother, and his brother Daniel.

 Pray for these important men of God: Rabbi Salt, his family, and Rabbi Hasselblad. They are both older and need protection and blessings.

 pray for Ilana Avramov, who is married to my cousin Nissim and lives in New York City. Ilana is home now. We pray for her full recovery. She and Nissim both need our prayers.

 Pray for Steve Mock - His cognitive condition has declined, and we ask for the grace of God and His Healing and strength. Steve and Josie’s son Joseph has received a wonderful and glorious report. After the last bone marrow transplant, the report is that the doctors didn’t find any leukemia in his body! Praise the Lord!
