제가 아주 좋아하는 토라 포션 중 하나가 “핀하스”입니다. (민수기 25:10~30:1)
믿는 자로서 제 평생 개인적 사적 도전은 이 세상과 그 안에 있는 모든 것을 창조하신 하나님을 이해하고 아는 것입니다. 토라 포션 “핀하스”는 우리에게 하나님과 사람들의 독특하고 비상한 성품 몇 가지를 보여주고 있습니다. 토라 포션 “핀하스”는 무정부상태를 가르치는 데 사용될 수 있을 것입니다. 누군가 의로운 분노와 직접 법을 집행하는 것을 가르치고 싶다면, “핀하스”가 안성맞춤 토라 포션입니다. 누군가 임명된 지도자의 공식적 권위를 고려하지 않는 비상하고 자족적 태도로 고정관념을 벗어난 용기를 내는 것을 가르치고 싶다면, 이 포션이 그것을 가르치고 정당화하는 정확한 성경 본문입니다. 이 토라 포션은 관료들이나 경찰의 경사들이 의로운 분노를 폭발하여 개인적 행동을 하는 것을 허락하기를 기다리고 있거나, 악, 불의, 하나님과 그분의 백성에 대한 명예 훼손을 도모하는 사람들에 대해 용기를 내어 개인적으로 솔선하여 행동하는 것을 하나님께서 얼마나 더 잘 이해하시고 존중하시는지를 보여줍니다. 신도석을 데우는 느리고 고지식한 기독교인이나 금으로 수놓은 키파를 덮는 회당 탈릿트를 두른 회당의 명목적 사교적 회원에게 의문은 이것입니다: 하나님께서는 거룩한 열심을 존중하시고 상 주시는가? 하나님과 그분의 나라를 위한 열심당원이 되어 침묵하고 있는 쓸모없는 기득권 관료들과 전령(傳命)들을 기다리지 않고 행동에 나서 문제를 바로잡는 것이 옳은 시간이 있는가? 이 토라 포션을 보고 대부분의 정통유대교 회당이나 정통 교회에서는 일반적으로 가르치거나 고무하지 않는 것을 배우도록 합시다. 하나님의 성품: 1. 열심에 대한 하나님의 상(賞): 1) 하나님께서는 비느하스가 염병을 멈추기 위해 시므리와 고스비를 죽인 그의 열심을 인정해주시고 상을 주시어, 의와 언약을 지키기 위해 열심을 내는 사람들에 대한 하나님의 지지를 보여주셨습니다. 하나님께서는 언약을 지키고 하나님의 계명과 그분의 백성들의 유익을 지키는 데에 헌신된 열심 있고 올곧은 사람들을 존중하십니다. 2) 하나님께서는 모세와 아론과 이스라엘의 모든 장로들의 권위를 무시하고 직접 법을 집행했던 이 사람에게 평화의 언약을 주셨습니다. 이스라엘의 중요한 지도자들은 그저 서서 시므온 지파의 두령인 시므리가 성막 입구에서 모압 공주 고스비와 성교를 하는 것을 보고만 있었습니다. 다음 구절은 토라 전체에서 가장 슬픈 말씀 중 하나입니다: “여호와께서 모세에게 이르시되 백성의 수령들을 잡아 태양을 향하여 여호와 앞에 목매어 달라 그리하면 여호와의 진노가 이스라엘에게서 떠나리라 모세가 이스라엘 재판관들에게 이르되 너희는 각각 바알브올에게 가담한 사람들을 죽이라 하니라” (민수기 25:4-5) 2. 비느하스는 연로한 지도자들에게 허락을 구하지 않고 행동을 취했습니다.
비느하스는 하나님과 그분의 백성의 명예를 지키기 위해 기성 지도자들의 승인을 기다리지 않고 대범하고 용기 있게 솔선하여 행동했습니다. 비느하스는 지도자들을 알았고, 그가 허락을 구했다면 이사회를 열어 토론하고 논쟁하고 정치적 이유로 아무 결정이 내려지지 않으리라는 것을 알았습니다. 그리고 두 번째 이사회가 소집되고 논쟁이 있고, 그 때 쯤에는 이스라엘 진영의 절반 정도는 속옷을 내리고 이웃의 아내와 딸들과 성교를 하고 있었을 것입니다. 뜻밖의 과격한 행동으로 시므리와 고스비를 죽인 것 때문에 하나님께서 비스하스에게 이 두 섹스광을 죽여 온 이스라엘에 내린 염병을 멈춘 그의 개인적 솔선수범에 상을 주시고 그에게 “평화의 언약”(브릿트 샬롬)과 영원한 제사장직을 주신 것은 흥미롭습니다. 3. 예슈아께서 그분의 짧은 생애 동안 행한 모든 것은 고정관념에서 벗어난 것이었고, 그분께서는 당시 이 땅에서 다스리던 권위자들 그 누구에게서도 허락을 구하지 않으셨습니다. 그분께서는 갈릴리 호수 위를 걸으시려 허락을 구하지 않으셨습니다. 그분께서는 물고기 두 마리와 피타빵 다섯 개로 오천 명을 먹이시려 허락을 구하지 않으셨습니다. 비느하스도 시므온 지파 두령 시므리와 모압왕의 공주 고스비를 공개 처형하기 위해 산헤드린에 가서 허락을 구하지 않았습니다. 비느하스는 창을 들어 시므리와 고스비를 관통하여 그 둘을 땅에 꽂아 죽였습니다. 모세와 아론과 이스라엘의 장로들은 서서 땀 나는 손을 비틀며 “어떻게, 어떻게, 어떻게!”만 말합니다. 비느하스가 행한 일은 고정관념에서 벗어난 것이었습니다. 더 비상한 것은 하나님께서 영원한 평화의 언약으로 이 행동에 대해 상 주신 것입니다. 이 언약은 비스하스에게만 주신 것입니다. 비느하스에 대한 하나님의 조처와 상 주신 것은 비느하스의 과격한 행동과는 반대되는 것입니다. 하나님의 조처는 하나님의 정의와 법적으로는 불법이었을 행동 이면에 있는 의도의 중요성의 복잡함을 보여줍니다. 비느하스는 재판관도, 경찰청장도, 연방수사국 국장도, 성막 경비도, 도덕적이거나 올바른 조치에 있어서 권위자도 아니었습니다. 그는 거룩한 열심과 거룩한 분노가 가득한, 어쩌면 충동적인 조급함으로, 아브라함과 이삭과 야곱의 하나님을 예배하는 장소인 성막 앞에서 벌어지고 있는 하나님과 그분의 백성에 대한 치욕과 명예 훼손을 멈춰야겠다고 마음먹은, 어떤 직책도 없는 젊은이였습니다! 4. 만약 오늘날 누군가 가자지구에서 어떤 의례나 공식적인 군사 퍼레이드에서 이런 류의 행동을 한다면 그는 십중팔구 군사 법정에서 재판을 받고 직접 법을 집행한 것 때문에 투옥될 것입니다. 5. 비느하스의 사건 직후에 토라는 다시 제사에 대한 상당히 상세한 내용의 지시와, 어떻게 제사를 드릴 것인가에 대한 정보와, 매우 상세하게 토라 율법의 율례를 따르는 중요성을 가르치는 것으로 돌아갑니다. 저는 토라에서 드라마 – 드라마 – 드라마 … 이러한 전개를 좋아합니다. 소동, 가증한 일, 성교, 살인, 이스라엘의 기성 정치 및 종교지도자들의 무기력!!! - 그러다가, 다시 성막에서의 차분하고 매우 상세한 규칙적인 매일의 예배와 제사로 돌아가는 것 말입니다. 레위인들과 제사장은 기름을 더 붓고 아침 일찍 가지가 갈라진 등대에 불을 밝힙니다. 다른 사람들은 아침 제사를 준비합니다. 다른 사람들은 제단 근처에 나무를 준비해둡니다. 다른 사람들은 성소에서 여호와를 기쁘시게 하는 기분 좋은 향을 피우기 위해 몰약과 유향을 준비합니다. 의로운 사람이 권위자들이 문제를 다루어 신속히 바로 처리할 때까지 기다릴 수 없는 때가 있습니다. 저는 저희 회중 안에도 옳은 일에 대해 메시아의 몸과 이스라엘에 유익한 것에 대해 그러한 열심이 있기를 기도합니다. 잘못이 바로잡히고 굽은 것이 곧게 되는 것을 보기 위해 남자와 여자가 일어나 옹호하고 결단과 진리로 열렬히 싸우기를 기도합니다. 저는 하나님의 그분의 백성과의 이러한 관계가 좋습니다. 저는 연로한 정치인들이 충격에 빠져 땀 나는 손을 비틀며 “어떻게, 어떻게, 어떻게, 뭐가 어찌 돌아가는 거야?” 말하는 것 말고는 어찌할 바를 모를 때 직접 법을 집행하여 하나님의 진짜 성품을 보여주기 위해 비느하스가 그랬던 것처럼 고정관념에서 벗어난 생각을 하고 매일의 단조로운 일과를 깨는 사람들을 하나님께서 존중하고 허용하신 사실이 좋습니다. 성경에는 법을 어기더라도 옳은 것이 이기도록 모든 역경에도 불구하고 심지어 규칙을 어기고 싸운 인물들이 있습니다. 6. 이번 토라 포션에서 저는 하나님과 그분께서 좋아하시고 존중하시는 것에 대해 몇 가지를 배웁니다. 1) 열심과 용기: 비느하스는 그의 목숨과 공동체 안에서의 지위를 걸고, 시므리와 고스비에 대해 즉각적인 행동을 취함으로써 비상한 열심과 용기를 보여줍니다. 그는 대놓고 저지르는 죄에 대항하여 홀로 일어섰습니다. 그의 행동은 공동체의 거룩함을 유지하는 데에 있어서 개인의 책임과 솔선수범의 중요성을 부각시킵니다. 때로는 이런 일이 다수와 이 땅의 법에 대항하여 있어야 합니다. 우리는 성경의 위대한 인물들이 모두 법을 어기고 그들이 행한 일에 대한 허락을 기다리지 않았고, 하나님께서는 그들에게 복 주시고 이스라엘을 구하시기 위해 그들을 사용하셨다는 것을 주목해야 합니다. 아브라함, 이삭, 야곱, 모세, 눈의 아들 여호수아, 다윗왕, 호세아, 아모스, 그 외 다른 사람들을 보십시오. 성경의 많은 인물들이 완벽하지 않았지만, 하나님께 대한 그들의 헌신은 언제나 의문의 여지가 없었습니다. 2) 이번 토라 포션이 리더십에 대해 우리에게 가르치는 것 중에 하나는 성경에서 리더십은 자동적으로 물려받는 것이 아니라는 것입니다. 3) 이번 토라 포션에서 우리는 여성이 아버지의 (가문) 재산과 부를 상속할 권리가 없는 아주 중요한 법적 상황을 봅니다. 이번 토라 포션에서 우리는 슬로브핫의 딸들의 경우를 볼 수 있습니다. 그들의 아버지에게는 아들이 없었습니다. 그에게는 딸만 있었습니다. 이 딸들은 대범하게 모세에게 그들의 아버지의 상속 권리를 받을 수 있게 해달라고 청원합니다. 그들은 모세에게 토라, 율법을 바꿔 딸들도 그들의 아버지의 유업을 받을 수 있게 허용해달라고 요청합니다. 또 다른 대범한 이야기입니다. 모세는 하나님께 청원했고, 하나님께서는 율법, 토라를 바꿔 (어떤 필연적인 허용으로) 재산을 한 지파 안에서 지키고 시간이 지남에 따라 지파별 땅의 경계를 지우거나 바꾸지 못하도록 딸들이 그들의 아버지의 유업을 받을 수 있게 해주십니다. 이것은 또 다른 슬로브핫의 딸들의 대범한 청원과 모세와 하나님의 유연함입니다. 모세와 하나님은 토라의 현재 율법이 아들은 없고 딸만 있는 가족을 고려하지 않고 있음을 깨달았습니다. 즉, 슬로브핫의 딸들이 모세 앞에 그들의 불만을 가져와서 모세가 그것을 하나님께 올려드렸을 때, 하나님께서는 토라가 가문의 기업을 아들들에게만 제한하지 말고 가족의 딸들에게까지 확대해야 한다는 것을 깨달으신 것입니다. 4) 이번 주 토라 포션은, 비느하스의 경우에서도 슬로브핫의 딸들의 경우에서도, 우리에게 하나님께서 그분의 토라에 있어서 얼마나 은혜로우시고 얼마나 이해심이 많으시며 얼마나 유연하시며, 우리 인간의 연약함과 필요를 얼마나 감안하시며, 얼마나 역사의 그 순간의 사람들의 필요에 맞게 토라를 조정해주시고 그분의 자녀를 위해 최대로 가능한 상황에 맞게 시스템을 조정해주시고자 하시는지를 가르쳐줍니다. 긴급한 필요!!!!! 네티비야 성경교육사역과 이스라엘 로에 이스라엘 회중(교회)은 우기가 시작되기 전에 건물 지붕을 보수해야 하는 긴급한 필요가 있습니다. 천장에서 물이 새는 중대한 문제가 있습니다. 저희 회당 지붕에서부터 3개 층 아래로까지 물이 새서 즉시 보수해야 합니다. 이렇게 물이 새는 것을 고치는 유일한 방법은 지붕 전체를 걷어내고 지붕의 틈새를 막고 방수 처리를 다시 하는 것입니다. 예루살렘 저희 건물의 이 보수 작업 비용의 견적은 미화 약 10만 달러입니다. 이것은 상당한 보수 작업으로 전문가가 해야 하고, 2024년 8월 말 전에 끝내야 합니다. 도와주시기 바랍니다. 혹시 여러분이 저희 웹사이트에서 팟캐스트를 재생하실 때 문제가 있다면, 저희 유튜브 채널 재생목록에서도 찾아보실 수 있습니다:

여러분이 개인적으로 모르는 형제자매들을 위해 드리는 기도는 순전한 사랑이며 메시아의 몸을 세우는 것입니다. 여러분이 이기적인 이해관계 없이 여러분이 모르지만 형제인 누군가를 위해 천국에서 투표를 하는 것이기에 이것은 아가페 사랑입니다. 그리고 하나님께서는 우리가 이 세상에서는 서로 모를지라도 우리를 함께 묶는 사랑과 믿음의 긴 사슬로 연결된 다른 사람을 위해 하는 이기적이지 않고 참된 사랑과 관심의 표현인 이 기도를 보고 계십니다.
우리가 천국에 가서 우리가 위해서 기도했고 때로는 울부짖었던 사람들을 만나게 되면 기쁜 일일 것입니다. 그들은 육신적으로는 모르지만 영적으로는 같은 그리스도의 몸의 지체인 형제자매들로서, 언젠가 함께 앉아 “제가 당신이 치유되도록 기도한 것이 기억납니다!”, “당신이 가자지구 하마스 테러리스트들의 잔인한 손아귀에서 인질들을 구하기 위해 가자지구에서 싸울 때 제가 당신이 안전하도록 기도한 것이 기억납니다!” 이야기 나누는 특권을 누리게 될 이들입니다.
하나님의 은혜와, 치유와 힘을 주시는 하나님의 부드러운 손길이 필요한 다음 형제자매님들을 위해 기도해 주십시오.

One of my very favorite Torah portions is the portion Pinchas. (Numbers 25:10-30:1).
My whole life as a believer, my personal and private challenge is understanding and knowing God, who created the world and everything in it. The Torah portion Pinchas presents us with several unique and unusual characteristics of God and men. Torah Pinchas could be used to teach anarchism. If someone would like to teach righteous indignation and take the law into one's private hands, Pinchas is the right Torah portion. Suppose someone would like to teach and espouse courage outside the box with an unusual, self-sufficient attitude that does not consider the appointed leadership's official authority; this is the correct Biblical text to teach and justify it. This Torah portion reveals how God is much more understanding and appreciative of courage and personal initiative over people who seek evil, injustice, and defamation of God and His people, waiting for bureaucrats or police sergeants to give them permission to explode with righteous indignation and take personal action. The question for the slow and square pew-warming Christian or Synagogue Tallit covered gold embroidered Kippah nominal social member of the synagogue is this: Does God appreciate and reward divine Zealotry? Is there a time that is right to be a Zealot for God and His Kingdom and not wait for the sedated officials and messengers of the demented establishment to take action and make things right? Let us look at our Torah portion and learn something not usually taught and encouraged in most Orthodox Synagogues and churches. Characteristics of God: 1. Divine Reward for Zealotry: 1. God recognizes and rewards Pinchas for his zealous action in killing Zimri and Cozbi to stop a plague, demonstrating God's support for people who have zeal when it is in defense of righteousness and the covenant. God honors zealous and upright people who defend the covenant and are committed to keeping God's commandments and the good of His people. 2. God grants a Covenant of Peace to the one who took the law into his own hands, overriding the presence and authority of Moses and Aaron and all the elders of Israel. The leadership of Israel is impotent just standing there watching Zimri – the president of the tribe of Simeon, having sex at the very entrance of the holy tabernacle with the princes of Moab Cozbi. The following verse is one of the saddest texts in the whole Torah: "Then the LORD said to Moses, "Take all the leaders of the people and hang the offenders before the LORD, out in the sun, that the fierce anger of the LORD may turn away from Israel.". So Moses said to the judges of Israel, "Every one of you kill his men who were joined to the Baal of Peor." (Numbers 25:4-5 NKJV) 2. Pinchas takes action without asking permission from the old leadership.
Pinchas has a bold and courageous initiative to protect the reputation of God and His people without waiting for the established leadership's approval. Pinchas knew the leadership and that if he asked for permission, there would be a board meeting, discussion, and debate, and no decision would be passed for political reasons. A second board meeting will be convened, and there will be a debate by that time; half of the camp of Israel will have their drawers down, having sex with their neighbor's wives and daughters. It is fascinating that for the abrupt violence and killing of Zimri and Cozbi, God rewards Pinchas and grants Pinchas a "covenant of peace" (Brit Shalom) and a perpetual priesthood for his act individual initiative to kill the two sex maniacs and stop the plague on all of Israel. 3. Everything that Yeshua did during his short lifetime was outside the Box, not asking permission from any of the authorities that ruled this land in those days. He didn't ask permission to walk on water in the Sea of Galilee. He didn't ask permission to feed 5000 people with two fish and five pita bread. Pinchas also didn't go to the Sanhedrin and ask the elders for permission to kill and publicly execute Zimri, the Moabite Prince, and Cozbi, the daughter of the king of Moab. Pinchas took the spear and pierced both Zimri and Cozbi by pinning them both to the ground and killing them. Moses, Aaron, and the elders of Israel stood by, wringing their sweating hands and saying, "My my my!" What Pinchas did was out of the box. More unusual was that God rewarded this act of violence with an eternal covenant of PEACE, given to Pinchas alone. God's action and reward for Pinchas is the opposite of Pinchas' violent action. God's action shows the complexity of divine justice and the importance of intent behind what would legally be unlawful action. Pinchas was not a judge, police chief, head of the FBI, tabernacle security, or the authority on what is moral or a measure of uprightness. He was a young man without a title, full of holy zeal and anger, and maybe some impressive impatience that motivated him to stop the disgrace and defamation of God and His people in front of the Tent of Meeting, the place of worshiping the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob! 4. If someone today in Gaza would do this kind of deed in some ceremony or official military parade – he most likely would be tried in a military court and sent to prison for taking the law into his own hands. 5. Immediately after the episode with Pinchas, the Torah returns to its regular instruction tasks with significant details on the sacrifices, more information on how to make the sacrifices, and the importance of following the divine code of Torah Law with meticulous details. I like these developments in the Torah – Drama – Drama – Drama…. Excitement, abominations, sex, murder, and impotence of the old and established political and religious leadership of Israel!!! - Then, return to calm and meticulous details of regular everyday worship and sacrifices in the tent of the meeting. Levites and Priest added oil and lit the candelabra early in the morning. Others are preparing the morning sacrifices. Others are getting wood ready close to the altar. Others prepare the Myrrh and Frankincense for the incense to make a pleasant smell pleasing to the Lord in His dwelling. There is a time when a righteous person can't wait for the authorities to handle things and execute them quickly and at the right time. I pray that there will also be such zeal in our congregation for what is right and for what is good for the body of the Messiah and Israel. Men and women would rise, stand up, and even fight vigorously with determination and truth to see that the wrong is straightened and the crooked is made straight. I like this relationship of God with His people. I like the fact that God can appreciate and allow men who think outside the box and break the monotony of hum-drum everyday routine to show God's true character like Pinchas did by taking the LAW into his own hands when the old politicians in shock and didn't know what to do other than wring their sweaty hands together and say, My – My -My God what is going on here? The Bible contains characters who broke the laws and fought against all odds for what is correct to win, even against the rules. 6. From this portion, I learn something about God and what He likes and respects 1. Zeal and Courage: Pinchas exhibits extraordinary zeal and courage by taking immediate action against Zimri and Cozbi, risking his life and place in the community. He stood alone against the public sin. His actions highlight the importance of individual responsibility and initiative in maintaining communal holiness. Sometimes, this must be done against the majority and the law of the land. We ought to notice that the great characters of the Bible all broke the law and didn't wait for permission to do what they did, and God blessed them and used them to save Israel. Look at Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, Moses, Joshua, the son of Nun, King David, Hosea, Amos, and on and on…. Many characters in the Bible were not perfect, but their commitment to God was always without question. 2. One of the things that the Torah portion teaches us about leadership is that leadership in the Bible is not automatically inherited. 3. In our Torah portion, we see the very critical legal situation in which women did not have the right to inherit their father's (family) property and wealth. In our Torah reading we find the case of the daughters of Zelophehad. Their father didn't have sons. He had only daughters. These daughters boldly petition Moses to receive their father's inheritance rights. They request that Moses change the Torah, change the law, and allow daughters to receive the inheritance of their father, another very bold story. Moses petitions God, and God changes the law and the Torah and will enable daughters to receive their father's inheritance (with some logical concessions) to keep the property in the tribe and not, with time, delete and change the borders of the tribal land. It is another bold move by Zelphehad's daughters and the flexibility of Moses and God himself. Moses and God realized that the present law in the Torah does not consider that a family would have only daughters and no sons. So, when those daughters of Zelophehad brought their grievance before Moses and Moses took it up to God, God realized that the Torah should not limit the family's inheritance to the male children and extend to the family's daughters. 4. This week's Torah reading, both in the case of Pinchas and the case of the daughters of Zelophehad, teaches us how much grace, understanding, and flexibility God has in His Torah and how much God takes into account our human weaknesses and needs and is willing to adjust and adapt the Torah to the need of the people in that point in History and adjust the system to the best possible circumstances for His human children. URGENT NEED!!!!! Netivyah Bible Instruction Ministry and Roeh Israel Congregation in Israel have an urgent need to repair the roof of their building before the rainy season starts. There is a significant problem with leaking water from the ceiling. Water leaks from the roof into our synagogue three floors down and must be fixed immediately. The only way to fix this water leak is to remove the whole roof and redo it right to seal and waterproof the roof. The estimated cost of this urgent repair work on our building in Jerusalem is around USD 100,000. It is significant repair work, and it has to be performed by experts, and it has to be finished before the end of August 2024. Please help. Your prayers for brothers and sisters you don’t know personally is a pure love and building of the Body of the Messiah. It is Agape Love since you are doing this without any selfish interests and casting a vote in heaven for someone who is your brother. Still, you don't know them, and God looks at these prayers that are unselfish and genuine expression of love and care for another link in the long chain of love and faith that binds us together even though we might not know each other in this world.
When we all get to Heaven, it will be a joy to meet people we prayed for and sometimes even cried for. Brothers and sisters who are physically strangers but spiritually a part of the same body of Christ, I believe that one day we will have the privilege to sit together and share: "I remember praying for you to be healed!" "I remember praying for you to be safe when you were fighting in Gaza to free the hostages from the cruel hands of the terrorists of the Hamas in Gaza."
