예루살렘 기도 목록 – 2024년 7월 5일
요셉 슐람 – 이스라엘 예루살렘에서

이번 주 토라 포션은 저의 흥미를 끄는 토라 포션입니다.

이 토라 포션의 이름은 “코라흐”이고, 읽는 말씀은 민수기 16:1~18:32입니다.
선지서에서 읽는 하프타라는 이사야 66:1-24입니다.
(“하프타라”는 히브리 단어가 아니라 아랍어이며, 토라 포션 읽기 “다음에 오는” 본문이라는 뜻입니다.)
신약성경에서는 마가복음 9:40–50을 읽을 것입니다.

우리가 이번 토라 포션에 기술된 사건의 무게를 이해하기 위해 묻는 것으로 시작해야 하는 큰 질문은 “고라는 누구이며 그는 뭘 했는가?”입니다.

고라는 레위인으로 모세와 아론의 사촌입니다. 그의 이야기는 주로 민수기 16장에서 하고 있습니다. 고라는 다단과 아비람과 250명의 유력한 공동체 지도자들과 함께 모세의 리더십과 아론의 제사장 권위에 도전했습니다.

고라의 반역은 몇 가지 이유 때문에 심각합니다:

하나님의 권위에 대한 도전: 고라와 그를 따르는 무리와 가족들은 모세와 아론의 리더십의 정당성에 대해 의문을 제기했습니다. 모세와 아론은 그들의 리더십 역할을 선택하거나 스스로를 이스라엘의 최고 지도자로 임명하지 않았습니다. 출애굽기에서 천명하는 바와 같이 하나님께서 그들을 선택하셨고 그들에게 리더십 역할을 지정하셨습니다. 출애굽기 7:1은 그들이 노예로 성장했던 이스라엘 사람들을 40년 동안 시내 광야에서 이끄는 역할에 스스로를 임명하지 않은 것을 보여주는 예 중 하나입니다. 모세는 태어나기 전부터 이스라엘 사람들을 노예생활에서 자유로 이끌도록 하나님의 정하심을 받았습니다. 하나님께서 정하신 것입니다! 고라의 행위는 인간 지도자에 대한 반역일 뿐만 아니라 하나님의 선택에 대한 반역으로도 여겨지기도 합니다. 모세는 토라가 모세와 그의 형 아론과의 관계에 대해 다음과 같이 말한 아주 특별한 지도자입니다:

“여호와께서 모세에게 이르시되 볼지어다 내가 너를 바로에게 신 같이 되게 하였은즉 네 형 아론은 네 대언자가 되리니” (출애굽기 7:1)

토라와 선지서의 다른 말씀들도 구전을 통해 하나님께서 모세와 맺은 아주 특별한 관계를 확증합니다. 하나님 아버지와 모세 사이에는 중개자가 없었습니다. 모세는 비서나 통역을 거치지 않고 하나님께 바로 연결되는 선이 있었습니다.

그런데 고라라고 하는 모세와 아론의 사촌과 그의 일당은 모세와 아론의 리더십에서 이탈하기로 결정하고, 그들 역시 지도자이며 레위인들이므로 모세와 아론과 같은 권위가 있다고 주장합니다: “우리도 모두 너희처럼 레위인이다! 뭐 때문에 모세 당신이 그렇게 특별한가? 우리도 모든 면에서 당신만큼 잘 한다. 당신이 할 수 있는 것은 우리가 더 잘 할 수 있다.”

고라와 그의 일당은 모세와 동등함, 심지어 우월함을 주장하며 리더십에 도전했습니다. 그들은 그들이 레위인이며 모세와 아론 가문보다 더 수가 많기 때문에 더 유능하다고 주장했습니다.

사회 질서 훼손: 고라는 반역을 선동함으로써 광야 여정 중 중요한 시점에 이스라엘 공동체의 안정과 연합을 위협했습니다. 이 점에 있어서 토라(성령)는 정치적입니다. 토라는 고라의 족보를 가져옵니다: “레위의 증손 고핫의 손자 이스할의 아들 고라와 르우벤 자손 엘리압의 아들 다단과 아비람과 벨렛의 아들 온이 당을 짓고” (민수기 16:1) 성령께서는 고라와 그의 일당의 행위의 뿌리가 고라의 유전자 속에 깊이 박혀 있음을 보이기 위해 이 족보를 가져오신 것입니다. 다단과 아비람은 일찍이 모세와 아론에게 문제를 일으킨 자의 아들이었습니다.

시기심과 야망: 고라의 반역의 동기는 시기와 개인적 야망에 뿌리를 두고 있었습니다. 그는 공동체의 안위나 하나님의 종 모세와 아론에 대한 존중보다는 자신을 위한 권력과 특권을 추구했습니다. 고라는 온 회중이 거룩하다고 주장하며 모세와 아론이 다른 이들보다 스스로를 높이는 이유에 대해 의문을 제기하여 그의 도전을 민주적 논의로 포장했습니다. 하나님께서 지정하신 특유의 역할과 책임은 제쳐두었습니다. 그러나 고라의 행위의 뒤에는 영적 교만과 권력에 굶주린 자아가 있었습니다.

이 반역의 엄중함과 그 영향 때문에 극적이고 가혹한 벌을 받게 되었습니다. 하나님의 직접적인 응징으로, 땅이 갈라져 고라와 그의 가족과 그를 따르는 모든 자들을 삼키고, 주님으로부터 불이 나와 향을 피워 드리던 250명을 살랐습니다. 이 일은 미래의 반란에 대한 엄중한 경고가 되었고 하나님께서 세우신 신성한 임무과 질서를 확인했습니다. 우리는 고라와 그의 일당의 죄에 대한 하나님의 조처의 엄중함으로부터 교훈을 얻어야 합니다.

이번 토라 포션에 동반되는 선지서 포션 말씀은 이사야 66:1–24입니다.

이사야서 마지막 장에서 관련이 있는 말씀은 첫 네 절에 있습니다:

“여호와께서 이와 같이 말씀하시되 하늘은 나의 보좌요 땅은 나의 발판이니 너희가 나를 위하여 무슨 집을 지으랴 내가 안식할 처소가 어디랴 나 여호와가 말하노라 내 손이 이 모든 것을 지었으므로 그들이 생겼느니라 무릇 마음이 가난하고 심령에 통회하며 내 말을 듣고 떠는 자 그 사람은 내가 돌보려니와 소를 잡아 드리는 것은 살인함과 다름이 없이 하고 어린 양으로 제사드리는 것은 개의 목을 꺾음과 다름이 없이 하며 드리는 예물은 돼지의 피와 다름이 없이 하고 분향하는 것은 우상을 찬송함과 다름이 없이 행하는 그들은 자기의 길을 택하며 그들의 마음은 가증한 것을 기뻐한즉 나 또한 유혹을 그들에게 택하여 주며 그들이 무서워하는 것을 그들에게 임하게 하리니 이는 내가 불러도 대답하는 자가 없으며 내가 말하여도 그들이 듣지 않고 오직 나의 목전에서 악을 행하며 내가 기뻐하지 아니하는 것을 택하였음이라 하시니라” (이사야 66:1-4)

여기에는 하나님께서 이스라엘에 (그리고 이 장의 뒷부분에서는 이스라엘 사람이 아닌 사람들과 유대민족이 아닌 민족을 포함하여 온 세계에) 그분이 누구신지를 상기시켜 주시는 것이 있습니다! 제가 하나님께서 이스라엘에 말씀하시는 이사야 66장의 처음 몇 구절을 현대적으로 번역한다면 이렇게 번역하고 싶습니다: “너희 농담하는 자들, 너희는 너희가 누구라고 생각하는 것이냐?” “너희는 내가 누구라고 생각하는 것이냐?” “(시편 기자가 말했듯이) 너희 메뚜기들, 너희는 “하늘은 내 보좌이며 땅은 내 발판”인 것을 모르는 것이냐?” 나는 너희를 향한 나의 선함과 사랑을 이용하고 가증한 것을 기뻐하는 교만하고 부패한 종과 상대하지 않을 것이다. 너희는 내가 너희를 만든 것을 모르는 것이냐? 너희는 내가 다른 민족들이 섬기는 우상과 같은 우상이 아닌 것을 모르는 것이냐? 너희는 내 손에 창조의 능력이 있다는 것을 모르며, 내가 너희 행위와 가증한 것들을 못 보고 너희의 부패한 것을 모른다고 생각하는 것이냐? 나는 너희가 너희 자신을 아는 것보다 너희를 더 잘 안다. 나는 너희가 악을 기뻐하는 것을 안다. 이러므로, 너희 하나님인 나는 너희에게 선하고 나를 기쁘게 하는 것을 기뻐할 것과, 악을 불러들여 너희를 압도하게 하지 말 것을 권한다.

오늘날 예슈아의 제자들인 우리는 이 토라 포션을 우리 마음에 깊이 새기고 우리의 행위와 하나님과 우리 형제자매들에 대한 우리의 태도를 많이 바꿔야 할 것입니다.

제가 이사야 66장의 이 말씀을 포함시킨 이유는 이 말씀이 주님을 기쁘시게 하고 그분의 계획을 이루고 이 땅에서 그분의 영광을 송축하고 높이며 보답하고 사용하고자 하는 사람들에게 매우 중요하고 의미 있고 굉장히 고무적이기 때문입니다!

제게 더욱 관심이 있는 것은 하나님의 영광, 이스라엘과 예루살렘의 영광, 이스라엘의 숙명 성취는 온 세상을 위한 빛이 되는 것입니다. 모든 인종차별주의와 부정적인 반-이방인 태도는 우리 중에서 없어져야 하는데요, 그 이유는 이사야 66장이 우상숭배를 일소한 유대인과 이방인들이 예루살렘으로 와서 함께 세상을 창조하시고 모든 피조물에 생명을 주시고 이 지구와 그 안의 인류를 지탱시키시는 하나님께 경배할 것을 말하고 있기 때문입니다! 우리는 모두 이 멋지고 조화로운 세상과 삶을 보기 위해 살며 함께 일해야 할 것입니다.

주께서 우리가 우리 시대에 이 장이 이스라엘과 예루살렘에서 이루어지는 것을 속히 보도록 하시기를 기도합니다!

이번 주에 저희는 이 기도 목록에 있는 분들에게서 아무런 경과보고를 받지 못했습니다. 때때로 우리의 삶은 이렇게 반복됩니다. 그래도 새로운 매일은 해가 떠서 우리가 창조의 영광을 볼 때마다 하나님께서 우리가 그분께 닿기를 기다리심을 상기시키는 것입니다.

여러분이 개인적으로 모르는 형제자매들을 위해 드리는 기도는 순전한 사랑이며 메시아의 몸을 세우는 것입니다. 여러분이 이기적인 이해관계 없이 여러분이 모르지만 형제인 누군가를 위해 천국에서 투표를 하는 것이기에 이것은 아가페 사랑입니다. 그리고 하나님께서는 우리가 이 세상에서는 서로 모를지라도 우리를 함께 묶는 사랑과 믿음의 긴 사슬로 연결된 다른 사람을 위해 하는 이기적이지 않고 참된 사랑과 관심의 표현인 이 기도를 보고 계십니다.

우리가 천국에 가서 우리가 위해서 기도했고 때로는 울부짖었던 사람들을 만나게 되면 기쁜 일일 것입니다. 그들은 육신적으로는 모르지만 영적으로는 같은 그리스도의 몸의 지체인 형제자매들로서, 언젠가 함께 앉아 “제가 당신이 치유되도록 기도한 것이 기억납니다!”, “당신이 가자지구 하마스 테러리스트들의 잔인한 손아귀에서 인질들을 구하기 위해 가자지구에서 싸울 때 제가 당신이 안전하도록 기도한 것이 기억납니다!” 이야기 나누는 특권을 누리게 될 이들입니다.

하나님의 은혜와, 치유와 힘을 주시는 하나님의 부드러운 손길이 필요한 다음 형제자매님들을 위해 기도해 주십시오.

 (경과보고) 사리트 자매님이 향년 89세로 돌아가셨습니다. 자매님은 친절한 분이었고 섬김의 마음이 있었습니다. 여러분의 교회에도 붙박이 같은 사람들이 있습니다. 그들은 여러분의 가족 일원입니다. 그들은 여러분의 교회에서 보이기도 하고 때때로 보이지 않기도 합니다. 저는 여러분께 여러분의 공동체에 있는 사리트 같은 지체들을 위해 기도해주시기를 부탁드립니다. 들러서 안부도 묻고 여러분의 계획에 그들을 포함시키십시오. 결국 여러분이 남아 있는 유일한 가족일 수 있습니다.

The Jerusalem Prayer List – 5 July, 2024

This week's Torah portion fascinates me.

The Torah portion is named Korach, and the reading is from Numbers 16:1-18:32.
The Haftarah reading from the prophets is from Isaiah 66:1-24.
(Haftarah is not a Hebrew word but Aramaic, as it sounds in English, which means "what comes after" reading the Torah Portion.)
We will read from the Gospel of Mark 9:40–50 from the New Testament.

The big question we must start with to understand the gravity of the events described in our reading is: Who is Korach, and what did he do?

Korach was a Levite and a cousin of Moses and Aaron in the Torah. His story is primarily told in Numbers 16. Korach, along with Dathan, Abiram, and 250 prominent community leaders, challenged Moses' leadership and Aaron's priestly authority.

Korach's rebellion was significant for several reasons:

Challenge to Divine Authority: Korach and his gang of followers and family questioned the legitimacy of Moses' and Aaron's leadership. Moses and Aaron didn't choose their leadership role or appoint themselves as Israel's supreme leaders. God chose and appointed them to their leadership roles, as stated in the book of Exodus. Exodus 7:1 is one of these texts that exemplifies that they didn't appoint themselves to this leadership role of leading a group of Israelites who were raised as enslaved people for 40 years in the wilderness of Sina. Moses was divinely appointed to lead the Israelites out of slavery into freedom even before he was born. Divinely appointed! Korach's actions were seen as a rebellion against human leaders but also against God's choices. Moses was such a unique leader that the Torah says this about Moses and his relationship with his brother Aaron:

"So the LORD said to Moses: "See, I have made you as God to Pharaoh, and Aaron your brother shall be your prophet." (Exodus 7:1 NKJV)

Other texts in the Torah and the prophets confirm this very special relationship that God had with Moses through mouth-to-mouth communication. There was no intermediary between God the Father and Moses. Moses had a direct telephone line to God without going through a secretary or an interpreter.

So, a cousin of Moses and Aaron named Korach, and his gang decided to walk away from the leadership of Moses and Aaron and claim that they, too, were leaders and Levites and, therefore, had the same authority as Moses and Aaron. "We are all Levites just like you! What makes you, Moses, so special? We are just as good as you in every way, and what you can do, we can do better."

Korach and his gang challenged the leadership by claiming equality with Moses and even superiority. They reasoned that they were Levites and more capable because they were more numerous than the family of Moses and Aaron.

Undermining the Social Order: By inciting a rebellion, Korach threatened the stability and unity of the Israelite community at a critical time during their journey through the desert. At this point, the Torah (The Holy Spirit) gets political. It brings into play the genealogy of Korach: "Now Korach the son of Izhar, the son of Kohath, the son of Levi, with Dathan and Abiram the sons of Eliab, and On the son of Peleth, sons of Reuben, took men." (Numbers 16:1 NKJV) The Holy Spirit brings in this genealogy to show that the roots of this behavior by Korach and his gang are already deeply planted in the genes of Korach, and Ishtar is the son of Dothan and Abiram, earlier problem makers to Moses and Aaron.

Jealousy and Ambition: The motivation for Korach's rebellion is rooted in envy and personal ambition. He sought power and prestige for himself rather than the community's welfare or honor of God's servants, Moses and Aaron. Korach's challenge was framed as a democratic argument, claiming that the entire congregation was holy and thus questioning why Moses and Aaron had elevated themselves above the rest. The specific roles and responsibilities designated by God were put to the side. However, what was behind Korach's action was Spiritual Arrogance and a power-hungry ego.

The severity of the rebellion and its implications led to a dramatic and severe punishment. The ground opened up and swallowed Korach, his family, and all his followers, and fire from the Lord consumed the 250 men, offering incense, a direct act of divine retribution. This served as a stark warning against future insurrections and affirmed the sanctity and order established by God. We must learn from the severity of God's action regarding Korach and his gang's sin.

The reading from the book of Isaiah 66:1–24 accompanies the Torah portion.

The relevant part of this text from the end of Isaiah the prophet is found in the first four verses of our text:

"Thus says the LORD: "Heaven is My throne, and Earth is My footstool. Where is the house that you will build Me? And where is the place of My rest? For all those things My hand has made, and all those things exist," says the LORD. "But on this one will I look: On him who is poor and of a contrite spirit, and who trembles at My word. "He who kills a bull is as if he slays a man; He who sacrifices a lamb, as if he breaks a dog's neck; He who offers a grain offering, as if he offers swine's blood; He who burns incense, as if he blesses an idol. Just as they have chosen their own ways, and their soul delights in their abominations, So will I choose their delusions, and bring their fears on them; Because, when I called, no one answered, When I spoke, they did not hear; But they did evil before My eyes and chose that in which I do not delight."" (Isaiah 66:1-4 NKJV)

Here, we have a reminder of God to Israel (and later in the chapter to the whole world, including the non-Israelite and not Jewish nations) of who He is! I would translate the first words of Isaiah 66 into modern English, as God is saying to Israel, "Who do you jokers think you are?" "Who do you think that I am?" You grasshoppers (as the psalmist said), Don't you know that "Heaven is my throne, and the earth is my footstool?" I will not deal with arrogant and corrupt servants who misuse my goodness and love for you and delight in abominations. Don't you know that I made you? Don't you realize I am not an idol like the other nations worship? Don't you know that I hold the power of creation in my hands and that you think I don't see your actions and abominations and know your corruption? I know you better than you know yourselves. I see you delight in evil. For this reason, I, your God, suggest that you delight in what is good and pleasing to Me and don't invite evil to overtake you.

Today, we, as disciples of Yeshua, must take this Torah reading deeply into our hearts and change so much of what we do and our attitude toward God and our brothers and sisters.

I include the reading from Isaiah 66 because it is so important, meaningful, and highly encouraging to those who seek to please the Lord, fulfill his program, and desire to bless, elevate, reward, and use HIS GLORY down here on Earth!

Even more interesting for me is the Glory of God, the Glory of Israel and Jerusalem, and the fulfillment of Israel's destiny is to be the light for the whole world. All the racism and negative anti-gentile attitudes must be cleaned from among us because Isaiah 66 describes Jews and Gentiles who clean up from their idolatry, come to Jerusalem, and worship together with Israel, the God who created the world and gives life to all living creatures and sustains the ball called Earth and humanity in it! We should all live and work together to see this wonderful and harmonious life and world.

May the Lord allow us to quickly see this chapter fulfilled in Israel and Jerusalem and in our own days!

This week we have not received any new updates from those on the prayer lists. That's how it is sometimes our lives are repetitive. However every new day is a blessing as the Sun rises we see the Glory of creation a reminder that haShem is there waiting for us to reach out to him.

Your prayers for brothers and sisters you don’t know personally is a pure love and building of the Body of the Messiah. It is Agape Love since you are doing this without any selfish interests and casting a vote in heaven for someone who is your brother. Still, you don't know them, and God looks at these prayers that are unselfish and genuine expression of love and care for another link in the long chain of love and faith that binds us together even though we might not know each other in this world.

When we all get to Heaven, it will be a joy to meet people we prayed for and sometimes even cried for. Brothers and sisters who are physically strangers but spiritually a part of the same body of Christ, I believe that one day we will have the privilege to sit together and share: "I remember praying for you to be healed!" "I remember praying for you to be safe when you were fighting in Gaza to free the hostages from the cruel hands of the terrorists of the Hamas in Gaza."

Pray for the following brothers and sisters who need divine grace and the gentle touch of the hand of God for healing and strength.

 Please continue to pray for the daughter of Bill Culwell, who is sick with cancer and is receiving a new third round of treatment. Please pray for success and healing.

 Brother Philip Slate and his wife. She is suffering from several physical and mental health challenges.

 Barbra and Angie in Alaska. Barbra has some pains and discomfort related to old age. Please lift them in prayer for strength and reduction in pain.

 Jonathan Bernis is in a long six-month recovery from a liver transplant. We thank God for this match. Please pray for this new liver to function and provide much-needed function. Please pray for Elisangela and the girls and the doctors and nurses attending our dear brother Jonathan Bernis.

 Please pray for Danah, my daughter's health issues. I pray for the Lord to give Danah wisdom, peace, and calm in life and her work.

 Aaron Hook, Nancy Hook’s oldest son, needs our prayers for wisdom and healing from past life issues.

 Lift for blessing and healing Jonathan B., his wife Aviva, their new baby, his mother, and his brother Daniel.

 Pray for these important men of God: Rabbi Salt, his family, and Rabbi Hasselblad. They are both older and need protection and blessings.

 Also, pray for Ilana Avramov, who is married to my cousin Nissim and lives in New York City. Ilana has fallen and is now in rehab, learning how to walk again. We pray for her full recovery. She and Nissim both need our prayers.

 Pray for Steve Mock - His cognitive condition has declined, and we ask for the grace of God and His Healing and strength. Steve and Josie’s son Joseph has received a wonderful and glorious report. After the last bone marrow transplant, the report is that the doctors didn’t find any leukemia in his body! Praise the Lord!
