예루살렘 기도 목록 – 2021년 9월 9일

유대 새해(로쉬 하샤나)로도 알려진 나팔절이 막 지났습니다. 이 다음 큰 날은 욤 하키푸림, 짧게 부르면, 욤 키푸르(속죄일)입니다. 이 날은 토라에 기록되어 있는, 전 세계와 이스라엘 유대인의 대다수가 지키는 가장 중요하고 오래된 금식일 중 하나입니다. 이스라엘 유대인 인구는 대체로 비-종교인이며, 이스라엘인들 대부분은 코셔(정결음식)법을 지키지도 않고 안식일을 지키지도 않습니다.
그러나 욤 키푸르에는 이스라엘 유대인 인구 중 70% 이상이 (적어도 하루 중 일부 혹은 대부분을) 금식합니다. 병원을 제외한 모든 곳이 문을 닫습니다. 예루살렘 거리와 이스라엘 도시 대부분이, 이따금 응급실로 사람을 데려가거나 출산이 임박한 산모를 분만실로 데려가는 앰뷸런스 말고는, 완전히 텅 비게 됩니다. 아이들은 도시의 대로에서 놀거나 달리거나 자전거를 탑니다. 회당은 가득 차고 대부분의 사람들이 회당에서 기도와 말씀 공부와 토론으로 많은 시간을 보냅니다. 욤 키푸르 시작 기도는 “콜 니드레”라고 부릅니다. 이 말 뜻은 “나의 모든 맹세”입니다. 이 기도의 문구입니다: “이번 욤 키푸르와 내년 욤 키푸르 사이에 우리가 할 법한 모든 맹세, 모든 맹약과 모든 서약을 공개적으로 부인합니다. 그것들이 모두 효력이 없고 무효로 철회되고 버려지게 하시어, 확고해지지도 성립되지도 않게 하소서. 우리의 맹세와 서약과 맹약이 맹세로도 서약으로도 맹약으로도 여겨지지 않게 하소서.” 이것은 정말로 아주 이상한 기도입니다. 이 기도가 생겨난 배경은 1472년에 시작되어 유럽에서는 1821년까지, 브라질에서는 1924년까지 끝나지 않았던 유대인에 대한 스페인 포르투갈 종교재판입니다. 유대인들은 가톨릭으로 개종하도록 강요받았습니다. 개종하지 않은 이들은 토지와 집과 일자리 등의 몰수를 면할 수가 없었습니다. 개종한 이들은 감시 받고 미행당했는데, 안식일을 지킨다거나 절기를 지킨다거나 코셔 아닌 음식을 안 먹는다거나 유대적인 것을 행하는 것이 발각되면, 가톨릭교회 종교재판소에서 재판을 받고 가톨릭교회 지하에서 여러 달 동안 고문을 당하며 종교재판소에 그들의 친척들(심지어 가족까지)을 고발하도록 재촉 받곤 했습니다. 가톨릭 사제들이 그들에게 가하는 가혹하고 비인간적인 고문 때문에 그들이 가족과 친구들을 고발한 후에도 아주 빈번히 교회 바로 앞에 있는 광장에서 광태와 같은 화형을 당하곤 했습니다. 이 콜 니드레 기도는 전 세계 모든 회당에서 가장 거룩하고 중요한 욤 키푸르 기도 중 하나입니다. 이것은 욤 키푸르 25시간 금식 내내 대체로 계속되는 예배의 개회기도입니다. 이번 안식일에 읽는 토라 포션은 신명기 31:1-30입니다. 선지서에서 읽는 말씀 역시 아주 특별한데요, 욤 키푸르 직전 안식일인 이번 안식일은 “샤뱟 슈바”, 회개의 안식일이라고 부르기 때문입니다. 선지서에서 읽는 본문은 호세아 14:2-10과 요엘 2:15-27이며, 신약성경에서는 히브리서 13:1-16을 읽습니다. 토라와 선지서와 신약성경에서 읽는 모든 말씀이 언제나 의미가 있고 중요하지만, 이 샤밧 슈바에 읽는 말씀들은 온 세계가 코로나바이러스 전염병의 고난을 겪고 있는 지금과 같은 때에는 더욱 중요해 집니다. 우리는 매일 한 번 이상 주님께 그분의 세계에서 이 코로나바이러스 전염병을 거두시고 우리 인류를 이 사람이 만든 재앙의 지긋지긋한 두려움과 그 결과에서 구해주시도록 기도합니다. 그러나 온 지구상 인류를 전염시켜온 훨씬 더 위험하고 악한 전염병은 교만과 우리 자신을 의지하며, 하나님을 청사진에서 제외시키고, 교회 건물이나 회당이나 심지어 모스크나 이교 사원의 사방 벽 안에 가둬버린 전염병입니다. 이 교만과 자기 신뢰라는 죄는 상당 부분 이스라엘 역사 내내 저희가 하나님의 손에 의해 고난당하게 된 이유였습니다. 호세아서에서 죄와 그 죄의 치료책을 잘 보여주는 말씀입니다: “너는 말씀을 가지고 여호와께로 돌아와서 아뢰기를 모든 불의를 제거하시고 선한 바를 받으소서 우리가 수송아지를 대신하여 입술의 열매를 주께 드리리이다 우리가 앗수르의 구원을 의지하지 아니하며 말을 타지 아니하며 다시는 우리의 손으로 만든 것을 향하여 너희는 우리의 신이라 하지 아니하오리니 이는 고아가 주로 말미암아 긍휼을 얻음이니이다 할지니라 내가 그들의 반역을 고치고 기쁘게 그들을 사랑하리니 나의 진노가 그에게서 떠났음이니라 내가 이스라엘에게 이슬과 같으리니 그가 백합화 같이 피겠고 레바논 백향목 같이 뿌리가 박힐 것이라 그의 가지는 퍼지며 그의 아름다움은 감람나무와 같고 그의 향기는 레바논 백향목 같으리니.” – 호세아 14:2-6 우리는 이 본문의 “앗수르”를 우리가 의지하며 그들이 와서 우리를 구해줄 것이라고 믿을 수도 있는 러시아나 중국이나 미국이나 다른 강대국들로 치환할 수 있을 것입니다. 이 본문에서 가장 중요한 부분은 “다시는 우리의 손으로 만든 것을 향하여 너희는 우리의 신이라 하지 아니하오리니”입니다. 이 죄는 다른 무엇보다 더 교만 및 자기 신뢰의 죄이며 우리의 능력, 재능, 인생에서의 업적을 우리의 신으로 등극시키는 죄입니다. 이것은 누가 주인인지, 누가 이 세상을 다스리는지, 누가 아침에 태양이 떠오르게 하여 “지구”라고 하는 이 행성에 빛과 생명을 주는지 잊는 죄입니다. 이것은 한 편의 죄이며, 다른 한 편의 이스라엘의 집단적이고 지속적인 죄는 애굽이나 앗수르나 바벨론이나 로마 같은 강대국을 의지하며 누가 진짜 강력한 힘이며 이 민족에게 생명과 양식과 안보를 제공해주는 분인지 잊는 죄입니다. 자기 신뢰라는 이 죄는 공동체와 나라의 문제만은 아닙니다. 서구의 개인들 중에 “나는 자수성가한 사람이야!” “나는 시장에서 성공했어!” “나는 그 누구도 필요하지 않고 아무도 날 도와주지 않았지, 나라는 존재와 내가 가진 모든 것은 나의 이 두 손으로 힘써 일한데서 생긴 것이야.” 라는 개념이 더 편만합니다. 저는 교회 지도자들, 장로들인 사람들이 그들의 아내 앞에서, 그리고 그들을 키워주고 먹여주고 교육시켜준 부모 앞에서 이런 말을 하는 것을 들은 적이 있습니다. 주 하나님께서 바로 이 행성과 우리가 서있고 걸어 다니는 땅을 지으시고, 우리 행성이 날마다 매초마다 태양 주위로 공전하게 하셨음에도 불구하고 말입니다. 신약성경에서 우리는 심지어 모든 것에 대해 “하나님의 뜻이면”이라고 말하지 않고 계획을 세우거나 계획이나 여행을 이행하려 하지 말라는 명을 받았습니다. 저는 중동계 유대인들(이라크, 이집트, 모로코 등 아랍 국가들에서 돌아온 유대인들, 일반적으로 세파라드 유대인들)이 하루에도 여러 번 “하나님의 도우심으로”, 아랍어로 “인샬라”라고 말하는 것을 듣습니다. 목사나 설교자나 장로나 그냥 보통 기독교인 중에서는 “하나님의 뜻이라면 갈 것이다, 이것, 저것을 할 것이다” 말하며 어떤 일을 계획하고 시작한다고 하는 말을 듣는 일은, 혹시 있더라도 아주, 아주 드뭅니다. 그것은 그들이 야고보서를 쓴 예슈아(예수님)의 동생 야고보의 명령을 무시하고 있음을 분명하게 보여주는 것입니다. 야고보가 우리에게 교훈한 말씀입니다: “들으라 너희 중에 말하기를 오늘이나 내일이나 우리가 어떤 도시에 가서 거기서 일 년을 머물며 장사하여 이익을 보리라 하는 자들아 내일 일을 너희가 알지 못하는도다 너희 생명이 무엇이냐 너희는 잠깐 보이다가 없어지는 안개니라 너희가 도리어 말하기를 주의 뜻이면 우리가 살기도 하고 이것이나 저것을 하리라 할 것이거늘 이제도 너희가 허탄한 자랑을 하니 그러한 자랑은 다 악한 것이라.” – 야고보서 4:13-16 우리는 사도 바울이 야고보가 예슈아의 모든 제자들에게 하라고 명하고 권한 것을 그대로 했음을 볼 수 있습니다. “그들에게 작별을 고하며 이르되, 내가 어찌하든지 다가오는 이 명절은 반드시 예루살렘에서 지켜야 하리라. 그러나 만일 [하나님]께서 원하시면 내가 다시 너희에게 돌아오리라, 하고 배를 타고 에베소를 떠나.” – 사도행전 18:21 [킹제임스 흠정역] 우리가 야고보의 말과 그의 지시를 살펴본다면, 문제가 세 부분으로 나눠져 있음을 볼 수 있을 것입니다: 1. “우리가 갈 것이다.” – “우리가 거기서 일 년을 머물 것이다!” – “우리가 장사하며 이익을 볼 것이다…” 2. 우리는 내일 무슨 일이 생길지, 심지어 우리에게나 온 세상에게 내일이 올지를 안다고 생각합니다. 3. 여러분이 하나님을 경외하는 사람으로서 여러분의 인생이 생명과 호흡과 축복을 주시는 우주의 창조주께 의존하고 있고 그것을 이해하고 있다고 분명히 하지 않으면, 예슈아의 동생 야고보에 따르면, 여러분은 사실 “알지도 못하고 자랑하고 있는 것이며, 그런 자랑은 모두 악한 것입니다.” 전 세계에 있는 이스라엘 민족은 “로쉬 하샤나”와 “욤 키푸르” 사이 열흘 기간에 있습니다. 이 때의 분위기는 회개와 죄를 고백하는 분위기입니다. 아래는 9월 15일 저녁에 시작하여 16일 저녁에 끝나는 욤 키푸르 25시간 금식 때 저희가 다같이 네 번 고백하는 죄의 목록입니다. 매년 저희 회중에서 이 긴 죄의 목록을 읽는 사람이 저이고, 저는 매년 제가 지은 죄를 언급하고 생각으로 표시합니다. 그리고 저는 매년 이 죄들을 그만하도록 최선을 다하리라 스스로에게 약속합니다. 제 죄들은 단연코 입으로 짓는 죄, 즉 제 입술에 파수꾼을 세우지 않는, 혹은 “정조대”를 두지 않은 죄입니다. 저는 제가 더 늙어갈수록 더욱 현명해져 언제 입을 열어야 하는지, 그리고 어떻게 제 말을 제어해야 하는지 알기를 바라고 기도합니다. 저는 유대인 절기 기도서에서 전 세계적으로 욤 키푸르에 25시간 동안 네 번 읽는 이 죄의 목록을 여기에 올려드립니다. 우리에게 상기시켜 고백하고 회개하려는 목적의 이 긴 목록을 찬찬히 읽으시면서 그 중에서 여러분의 죄로 인식되는 죄를 회개하는 것을 숙고해 보시기 바랍니다! 속죄일 기도서 중에서 알 켓트 기도입니다! 읽으면서, 지난 한 해 동안 여러분이 지었다는 것을 아는 죄들과, 여러분이 지었을지도 모른다고 생각하는 죄들과, 짓고 싶지 않은 죄들을 점검함으로써 여러분 자신과 여러분의 삶에 예고하시기 바랍니다. 아프가니스탄에 남겨져 탈레반의 수중에 놓인 기독교인 형제자매님들을 위해 기도합시다. 이들 형제자매님들은 목숨이 진짜 위험한 상황에 있습니다.
코로나바이러스로 인해 죽은 이스라엘계 (또한 미국계) 형제님인 랍비 데이비드 프리드만의 가족을 위해 기도해 주시기 바랍니다. 그는 아내와 자녀들을 남겨두었습니다.
인도 고아주 형제님들 주도로 “줌”프로그램으로 열린 아시아 메시아닉 포럼은 아주 성공적이었습니다. 보고에 의하면 실시간 참석자가 2,000명 이상이었다고 합니다. 어떤 이들은 중국에서만 2,000명이 참석했다고 합니다. 저는 그것이 사실이기를 바랍니다! 저희는 2023년 아시아 메시아닉 포럼은 물리적으로 한 지역에서 형제자매님들과 대면집회로 개최하며 코로나바이러스는 전혀 고려요인이 아닌 것이 되기를 기대합니다!

여러분의 기도에 이스라엘 정부를 기억해 주십시오. 코로나바이러스가 이스라엘에서 다시 창궐하며 새로운 변이가 전국에 걸쳐 확산되고 있습니다. 사람들은 3차 백신을 맞고 있지만, 상황이 진정되는 데는 몇 주 걸릴 것입니다.
우리는 모두 주님께서 이 전염병을 멈춰주시도록 기도해야 하는데요, 우선 무엇보다 하나님과 그분의 율법과 규례를 아는 유대인과 기독교인들이 기도하고 회개하고 주님을 구하고 긍휼을 간구하며, 우리가 성경에서 읽는 다른 모든 전염병에 대해 주님께서 하셨던 것처럼 이 전염병을 멈춰주시기를 구해야 합니다.
주님께서 그렇게 하실 수 있으시니, 우리는 하나님께 그분의 세상에 대한 긍휼을 베풀어주시도록 중보하며 간구해야 합니다. 이런 일은 오직 기독교인들과 유대인들의 지도자들이 죄를 고백하고 회개할 때에만 일어날 수 있습니다.
이번 주에 로쉬 하사냐(유대 전통적 새해)가 있었고 그 열흘 후에는 욤 하키푸림(속죄일)이고 그로부터 나흘 후에는 장막절입니다. 9월 대부분이 절기입니다!
이 절기들이 이 민족에 영적으로 큰 의미가 있는 것은 이 절기들이 심판날과, 우리 죄의 회개와, 마지막으로 하나님의 은혜에 대한 경축과 이 물리적 세계에서 우리의 연약함의 고백과, 사회의 모든 부분, 선과 악과 추함(도덕적 형사적 추함)과 우리의 하나됨과 협력의 필요성에 초점이 맞춰져 있기 때문입니다.
유대인 사회 말고는 세상에 그 어느 곳에서도 이와 같은 것은 없습니다. 예슈아의 제자들인 우리는 하나님의 거룩한 말씀으로의 다시 회복되는 과정의 일부가 되는 것이 아주 큰 특권이라고 여깁니다.
아주 힘든 이 때에 네티비야를 위해, 이스라엘 사람들에게 선을 행하며 그들을 축복하고 먹이고 지지해줄 기회를 위해 기도하고 후원해 주십시오. 이스라엘에서 이 어려운 시절에 어려움에 처한 이들의 수가 몇 배로 늘었습니다.
저희가 예루살렘의 빈궁한 사람들에게 선을 행하고 축복이 될 기회는 하나님께서 주신 기쁨과 특권의 기회이며 이것은 여러분이 거의 30년 동안 예루살렘의 가난한 이들에게 믿음직스럽고 효과적이며 후했던 이 위대한 사역의 일부가 될 수 있는 기회이기도 합니다!
네티비야는 시간과 돈이 드는 많은 일과 도전들과, 하나님께서 네티비야 앞에 두시는 필요들과 기회들을 감당할 수 있는 스텝이 더 필요합니다.
코로나바이러스가 전 세계적으로, 그리고 이스라엘에서도 다시 창궐하면서 새로운 봉쇄 위협이 생기고 있기에 이스라엘은 더 기도가 필요하고 네티비야도 여러분의 기도와 후원이 필요합니다.
저희는 예슈아의 유대인 및 아랍인 제자들이 대학교에서 수학할 수 있게 하는 장학금을 줄이지 않으려고 최선을 다하고 있습니다. 저희는 저희 차세대 제자들의 기준을 세우는 것이 최우선이라고 믿습니다.
인도와 브라질에는 아직도 코로나바이러스로 아주 심각한 어려움 가운데 있어 우리의 기도가 필요한 형제자매님들이 많이 있습니다. 우리는 인도와 브라질을 위해, 특히 이 두 나라에 있는 우리 형제자매들을 위해 계속 기도해야 합니다.
주님께서는 기도에 응답하시고 의인들의 기도를 들으시지만, 우리는 우리 형제자매들을 위해서 그리고 각자의 나라와 사역을 위해서 우리 기도를 아뢰어야 합니다. 심지어 우리 원수를 위한 기도도 하나님 말씀의 명령입니다.

The Jerusalem Prayer List – September 9, 2021

We have just passed the Feast of Trumpets a.k.a. The Jewish New Year (Rosh Hashanah). The next big day is Yom HaKippurim, or for short, Yom Kippur, the Day of Atonement. This day is one of the most important and ancient fast days that is recorded in the Torah and observed by Jews around the world and in Israel in the greatest numbers. The Jewish population of Israel is largely secular, and most of the Israelis don’t keep the Kosher laws, nor do they honor the Shabbat.
However, come Yom Kippur, over 70% of the Jewish population of Israel fasts (at least to some degree or for most of the day). Everything, except hospitals, is closed. The streets of Jerusalem and of most of the cities in Israel are totally empty except for the occasional ambulance taking someone to the emergency room in the hospital, or a woman that is giving birth, to the maternity ward. Children play and run and ride bicycles in the streets of the city. The synagogues are full, and most people spend many hours in the synagogues in prayer and study and discussion. The opening prayer on Yom Kippur is called “Kol Nidre.” The meaning of these words is “all my vows.” Here are the words of this prayer in English: “All vows we are likely to make, all oaths and pledges we are likely to take between this Yom Kippur and the next Yom Kippur, we publicly renounce. Let them all be relinquished and abandoned, null and void, neither firm nor established. Let our vows, pledges, and oaths be considered neither vows nor pledges nor oaths.” This indeed is a very strange prayer. The context of this prayer is the Spanish and Portuguese Inquisition that started in 1472 against the Jews and didn’t end until 1821 in Europe and 1924 in Brazil. Jews were forced to convert to Catholicism. Those who didn’t convert would be liable to forfeit their lands, and houses, and jobs… Those who did convert were watched and followed and if they were found to practice anything Jewish, a Sabbath, or a holiday, or even refuse to eat non-Kosher food, they would be put on trial by the High Court of the Inquisition of the Catholic Church, and would be tortured for months in the basements of the Catholic churches, and asked to report their relatives (even their own family) to the Holy Court of the Inquisition. Very often even after they would turn in their family and friends because of the horrible and inhuman torture that the Catholic priests would inflict on them, they were burned in an extravaganza in the public squares right in front of the churches. This prayer, Kol Nidre, is considered one of the holiest and most important prayers of Yom Kippur in every synagogue around the world. It is the opening prayer of the services that last through most of the 25 hours of the fast of Yom Kippur. The reading on this Shabbat is from Deuteronomy 31:1-30, from the prophets the reading is also very special because this Shabbat, the one just before Yom Kippur is called “Shabbat Shuva”, The Sabbath of Repentance. The texts that we read from the prophets are Hosea 14:2-10 and Joel 2:15-27, and from the New Testament we read from the letter to the Hebrews 13:1-16. All the readings of the Torah and the prophets and from the New Testament are always significant and important to read, but these Shabbat Shuva readings, in this time, and with the tribulations that our world is going through during the coronavirus plague, make these readings even more important. We pray more than one time per day for the Lord to lift this plague of coronavirus off His world and deliver us humans from the horrid fears and results of this man-made plague. However, the much more dangerous and evil plague that has been plaguing the human race around the whole globe is the plague of pride and reliance on ourselves, leaving God out of the picture, and locked up in the four walls of the church buildings, synagogues, and even mosques, and pagan temples. This sin of pride and self-reliance is throughout the history of Israel, the reason for much of our suffering by the hands of God. Here is the text from Hosea the prophet that demonstrates the sin and the cure of this sin: “Take words with you, And return to the Lord. Say to Him, ‘Take away all iniquity; Receive us graciously, For we will offer the sacrifices of our lips. Assyria shall not save us, We will not ride on horses, Nor will we say anymore to the work of our hands, “You are our gods.” For in You the fatherless finds mercy.’ I will heal their backsliding, I will love them freely, For My anger has turned away from him. I will be like the dew to Israel; He shall grow like the lily, And lengthen his roots like Lebanon. His branches shall spread; His beauty shall be like an olive tree, And his fragrance like Lebanon.” – Hosea 14:2-6 [NKJV] We could easily replace “Assyria” in this text with empires like Russia, China, the USA, or any other of these big and powerful countries that we might rely upon and trust that they would come and save us. The most important part of this text is, “Nor will we say any more to the work of our hands, ‘You are our gods.’” This sin is first and foremost a sin of pride, and self-reliance and an enthronement of our abilities, talents, and accomplishments in life, as our gods. It is the sin of forgetting who is the boss, who runs this world, who makes the sun rise in the morning, and gives light and life to this planet called “Earth.” This is on the one hand, and on the other hand, one of Israel’s collective and sustained sin is to rely on the big empires, like Egypt or Assyria or Babylon, or Rome, and forgetting who is the real power and the true provider of life, food, and security to this nation. This sin of self-reliance is not only an issue of communities and countries. It is more prevalent among individuals in the West, the concept of, “I am a self-made man!” “I made it in the marketplace!” “I don’t need anyone and no one helped me – all that I am and all that I have has come from my hard work, from these two hands.” I have heard people who are leaders, elders in churches, say these words in-front of their wives, and their fathers and mothers who raised them and fed them and educated them. Notwithstanding that the Lord God who created the very planet and the dirt that we are standing and walking on, and who keeps our planet spinning around the sun every day and every second. We are even commanded in the New Testament not to make plans and not to endeavor into programs and journeys without saying for everything, “God willing!” I hear Middle Eastern Jews (Jews from the Arab countries – Iraqi, Egyptian, Moroccan, in general Sephardic Jews) say several times a day “with God’s help” or in Arabic “Inshallah.” Very, very seldom, if ever, do I hear pastors, preachers, elders, or just normal Christians plan things and start things and say, “God willing!” I will go or do this or that. This is a clear indication that they ignore the command given by Jacob the brother of Yeshua (Jesus) who wrote the letter of Jacob (James). Here are the words of Jacob and his instructions for us: “Come now, you who say, ‘Today or tomorrow we will go to such and such a city, spend a year there, buy and sell, and make a profit’; whereas you do not know what will happen tomorrow. For what is your life? It is even a vapor that appears for a little time and then vanishes away. Instead you ought to say, ‘If the Lord wills, we shall live and do this or that.’ But now you boast in your arrogance. All such boasting is evil.” – James 4:13-16 [NKJV] We see that the apostle Paul did exactly what Jacob (James in English) commanded and recommended all disciples of Yeshua to do. “…but took leave of them, saying: ‘I must by all means keep this coming feast in Jerusalem; but I will return again to you, God willing.’ And he sailed from Ephesus.” – Acts 18:21 [NKJV] If we examine the words of Jacob (James) and his instructions we would see that the problem is divided into three parts: 1. “We will go.” – “We will spend a year there!” – “We will buy and sell, and make profit…” 2. We presume to know what will happen tomorrow or even if tomorrow will ever come for us, or even for the whole world. 3. When you don’t make it clear that your life is as a God-fearing person, and understand and rely on the Creator of the world, who gives life, breath, health, and blessings, according to Jacob the brother of Yeshua, you are actually, “boasting in your arrogance. All such boasting is evil.” The nation of Israel worldwide is in the ten days between “Rosh Hashanah” and “Yom Kippur,” the mood is of repentance and of confession of sins. Here is a list of the sins that we confess together four times during the 25 hours of Yom Kippur (the Day of Atonement) that will take place starting on the evening of September 15th, and end on the evening of September 16th. Every year I am the one reading in the congregation this long list of sins, and every year I mention and mark mentally the sins that I have transgressed. And every year I make a promise to myself to do my best to stop these sins. My sins are by far the sins of the mouth, not having a guard or a “chastity belt” on my lips. I hope and pray that as I am getting older now I will be also be wiser and know when to open my mouth and how to control my speech. I am including this list of sins from the Jewish holiday prayer book that is read around the world on Yom Kippur four times in 25 hours. Please read carefully and consider repenting of the sins that you recognize as your sins from this long list of sins that is intended for reminding us to confess and repent! The Text of Al Chet from the Day of Atonement Prayer book! Please read, put yourself and your life on notice by checking the sins that you know you have sinned during this last year, and sins that you think that you might have sinned, and those sins that you want to avoid from sinning. (The “Al Chet” confession of sins is said ten times in the course of the Yom Kippur services: following the Amidah of the afternoon prayers of the day before Yom Kippur; just before sunset on Yom Kippur Eve; and twice during each of the following services — the evening service of Yom Kippur eve, and the morning service, the Musaf service and the afternoon service of Yom Kippur day — once at the end of the Silent Amidah, and once during the cantor's repetition of the Amidah.) 1. For the sin which we have committed before You under duress or willingly. 2. And for the sin which we have committed before You by hard-heartedness. 3. For the sin which we have committed before You inadvertently. 4. And for the sin which we have committed before You with an utterance of the lips. 5. For the sin which we have committed before You with immorality. 6. And for the sin which we have committed before You openly or secretly. 7. For the sin which we have committed before You with knowledge and with deceit. 8. And for the sin which we have committed before You through speech. 9. For the sin which we have committed before You by deceiving a fellow man. 10. And for the sin which we have committed before You by improper thoughts. 11. For the sin which we have committed before You by a gathering of lewdness. 12. And for the sin which we have committed before You by verbal (insincere) confession. 13. For the sin which we have committed before You by disrespect for parents and teachers. 14. And for the sin which we have committed before You intentionally or unintentionally. 15. For the sin which we have committed before You by using coercion. 16. And for the sin which we have committed before You by desecrating the Divine Name. 17. For the sin which we have committed before You by impurity of speech. 18. And for the sin which we have committed before You by foolish talk. 19. For the sin which we have committed before You with the evil inclination. 20. And for the sin which we have committed before You knowingly or unknowingly. 21. For all these, God of pardon, pardon us, forgive us, atone for us. 22. For the sin which we have committed before You by false denial and lying. 23. And for the sin which we have committed before You by a bribe-taking or a bribe-giving hand. 24. For the sin which we have committed before You by scoffing. 25. And for the sin which we have committed before You by evil talk (about another). 26. For the sin which we have committed before You in business dealings. 27. And for the sin which we have committed before You by eating and drinking. 28. For the sin which we have committed before You by (taking or giving) interest and by usury. 29. And for the sin which we have committed before You by a haughty demeanor. 30. For the sin which we have committed before You by the prattle of our lips. 31. And for the sin which we have committed before You by a glance of the eye. 32. For the sin which we have committed before You with proud looks. 33. And for the sins for which we incur the penalty of excision and childlessness. 56. And for the sins for which we incur the penalty of the four forms of capital punishment executed by the Court: stoning, burning, decapitation and strangulation. 57. For (transgressing) positive and prohibitory mitzvot (commands), whether (the prohibitions) can be rectified by a specifically prescribed act or not, those of which we are aware and those of which we are not aware; those of which we are aware, we have already declared them before You and confessed them to You, and those of which we are not aware – before You they are revealed and known, as it is stated: “The hidden things belong to the Lord our God, but the revealed things are for us and for our children forever, that we may carry out all the words of this Torah. For You are the Pardoner of Israel and the Forgiver of the tribes of Yeshurun in every generation, and aside from You we have no King who forgives and pardons.”
Let us pray for the Christian brothers and sisters who are left in Afghanistan in the hands of the Taliban. These brothers and sisters are in grave physical danger for their lives.
Please pray for the family of a dear brother from Israel (and from the USA) that died as a result of the coronavirus, Rabbi David Friedman. He left a family and children behind.
Asia Messianic Forum that was held in Zoom and led by our brothers in India, in the state of Goa was a great success. According to reports we had more than 2000 participants on the call. Some say that we had 2000 participants from China alone. I hope that this is true! We are looking forward that in 2023 we would have the Asia Messianic Forum physically face-to-face with our brothers and sisters in one location and the coronavirus will not be a factor at all!
In the name of Peter, Michael, and myself, the Israeli participants and teachers want to express our deep gratitude to the organizers of the Asia Messianic Forum in India and our dear brothers in Japan and all the leaders from Asia who participated. We had some new countries and groups participate this year and our hope is that more new countries and tribes will participate in the next Asia Messianic Forum.
Our dear friend Mahmud Abu-Eid’s sister Gouzlan is very sick, and I ask you to pray for Gouzlan and for Maria Mahmud’s daughter who is getting married in Bulgaria in a few weeks.
Please keep praying for Rebekka Becker’s mother and brother. Pray for a dear sister in Brazil, Artuza de Oliveira. Pray for a very dear family who now lives in Canada, Merv and Merla Watson. They are older and need a good portion of God’s grace for their lives now.
Keep the Israeli government in your prayers. The coronavirus is again raging in our land and the new mutations are spreading throughout the land. People are getting vaccinated with the third vaccine shot, but it will take some weeks for the situation to stabilize.
We must all pray that the Lord will stop this plague, and that first and foremost the Jews and the Christians who ought to know God and His laws and regulations must pray and repent and seek the Lord and beg for mercy, and ask the Lord to stop this plague, like He did every other plague that we read about in the Bible.
He can do it, and we must intercede and beg for God’s mercy over His world. This can only happen if the leadership of both Christians and Jews take to confession and repentance.
This week was Rosh Hashanah (the Jewish traditional New Year Feast) and ten days later is Yom HaKippurim (The Day of Atonement) and four days later is the Feast of Tabernacles. Most of this month of September is holidays!
These holidays have great significance spiritually in this nation, because they focus on the judgment day, and on repentance for our sins, and finally celebration of God’s grace and a confession of our vulnerability in this physical world, and the need for our unity and cooperation with all segments of society, the good, the bad and the ugly (morally and criminally ugly).
There is nothing like this anywhere in the world except in the Jewish communities. As disciples of Yeshua we feel such a privilege to be a part of the restoration process back to the holy Word of God.
Pray and support Netivyah during these very hard times, for opportunities to do good and to bless and feed and support the population of Israel, those in need whose number has increased by many percentage points during these difficult days in Israel.
Our opportunities to do good and to be a blessing to the needy population in Jerusalem is a God-given opportunity of joy and privilege and it will be your opportunity to be a part of this great ministry that has been faithful and effective and generous to the poor of Jerusalem for near 30 years. The needs of Netivyah for more staff to be able to keep up with the amount of work and the challenges that take both time and money, and to keep up with the needs and the opportunities that God is putting in front of Netivyah.
With the coronavirus raging wild throughout the world, and in Israel, and with the threat of a new closure, Israel needs much prayer, and Netivyah needs your prayers and your support. We are doing our best not to cut the scholarship funds to Jewish and Arab disciples of Yeshua for study in the universities. We believe that building up the standard of our next generation of disciples is a priority.

We have many dear brothers and sisters in both India and Brazil who are still very much in serious trouble with the coronavirus situation and need our prayers. We need to continue to pray for India and Brazil and especially for our dear brothers and sisters in these two countries.
The Lord answers prayers and hears the prayers of righteous people, but we must speak our prayers before the Lord for the sake of our brothers and sisters and for the sake of our countries and ministries. Even prayer for our enemies is a command of God’s Word.
So, pray for your personal enemies if you have any, and especially for Israel’s enemies and terrorist states like Iran, and the Hamas in Gaza, and the Hizballah in Gaza and Lebanon… This is important, because when you pray for the good of these enemies you are actually heaping hot coal on their head. (See Romans 12, the last verses.)

The Lord has always been faithful to supply our needs. He has also been precise and provided what we need, not too little and not too much.
The Hamotzi food program is restarting with mostly new candidates provided by the city of Jerusalem. Our goal is to simply bless the needy of Jerusalem and make sure that those families with many children and old people, and single mothers, and others, both Jews and a few Arab families, have something fresh and good and healthy to eat. We need your prayers and your help to make this important purely humanitarian service possible. We are following the instruction of Paul in Romans 15:24-27.

Pray for Israel. We are going through terrible riots and violence in the streets of Jerusalem and Tel-Aviv and other places around the country. These riots are motivated by the fact that much of the populace of Israel does not understand what the government is doing in relationship to the coronavirus pandemic.
I would like a new prayer request for a dear brother Yehuda Hochman who lives in the Negev Desert. Yehuda has to receive Dialysis treatment several times per week.

Please pray for our two grandchildren. They are both graduating in a few weeks from high school. They are both facing this important change in their lives. Noam our granddaughter also had her 18th birthday on May 1st. This was a very big day for Noam. She is free from high school and also from other obligations and is privileged to make her own decisions and choices in life. Pray for Noam on this major crossroad of life for her and ask the Lord to bless Noam and to give her clear direction and guidance for what is good and right and holy in her life.
Both Noam and Joseph, our two grandchildren, are extremely talented and good students. Both are “A” students and excellent young people, but both need divine protection and guidance to make good and smart and right choices for life.
When I was 18 years old and cut off from my family because of my faith in the Messiah, I had no one on my side and no one to guide me. The Lord’s providential leading and guidance was the only guide that I had. I praise the Lord for His goodness and direction in my life.
I wish all of you, who stand with Israel and who pray for Jerusalem, the best of the Lord’s blessings and the fulfillment of all His promises to His faithful children. Those who hear God and do His will are the ones who are called wise! Those who only hear His word and don’t do it are called foolish! Let us all strive to be wise and never foolish! The best is yet to come!
