(사진 출처: 엠마우스 아카이브) 우리 생애에 우리 모두가 나병과 유사하게 연상할 수 있는 병은 코로나바이러스 감염병일 것입니다. 가족들이 사랑하는 가족의 일원과 격리되었고, 특별 병동에 격리 수용되었었습니다. 깨끗해졌고 육적, 영적으로 깨끗하다고 인증한다는 개념은 오늘날에도 있습니다. 어떤 국가들로의 여행 비자를 신청할 때, 해당국 관계자는 여러분이 여행 시 아무런 증상이 없는지 알고 싶어합니다. 우리는 영적 권위를 가진 제사장이 육신에 대한 의무도 있었다는 것, 그가 한 사람이나 물리적 구조물(집)을 살펴보고 그것이 깨끗하다(정결하다)고 인정해 주어야 한다는 것을 알게 됩니다. 우리는 어떤 사람이 영적으로 뿐만 아니라 육체적으로 깨끗하지 않아 그 결과로 하나님과 분리될 수 있다는 것을 알게 됩니다. 육신의 부정과 마찬가지로 집도 부정할 수 있고, 더 나쁜 경우에는 허물어야만 하는 경우도 있습니다. 제사장은 새의 피를 집에 일곱 번 뿌리는 의례를 통해 집을 정결하다고 선언합니다. 레위기 14:51 백향목과 우슬초와 홍색 실과 살아 있는 새를 가져다가 잡은 새의 피와 흐르는 물을 찍어 그 집에 일곱 번 뿌릴 것이요 52 그는 새의 피와 흐르는 물과 살아 있는 새와 백향목과 우슬초와 홍색 실로 집을 정결하게 하고 집에 일곱 번 뿌리는 이 의례는 제게 애굽(이집트)에서 보호 표식으로 문에 피를 바른 것을 생각나게 합니다. 이것은 공공연한 의례입니다. 이 의례의 공적 성격은 그 의례를 중요하게 만드는 일부분입니다. 이것은 한 사람을 그의 공동체로 회복시키는 절차의 일부입니다. 이것은 일종의 승인입니다. 이 승인은 예슈아께서도 아시는 것으로 그것을 누가복음 17장에서 보여주고 있습니다. 누가복음 17:11-19 예수께서 예루살렘으로 가실 때에 사마리아와 갈릴리 사이로 지나가시다가 12 한 마을에 들어가시니 나병환자 열 명이 예수를 만나 멀리 서서 13 소리를 높여 이르되 예수 선생님이여 우리를 불쌍히 여기소서 하거늘 14 보시고 이르시되 가서 제사장들에게 너희 몸을 보이라 하셨더니 그들이 가다가 깨끗함을 받은지라 15 그 중의 한 사람이 자기가 나은 것을 보고 큰 소리로 하나님께 영광을 돌리며 돌아와 16 예수의 발 아래에 엎드리어 감사하니 그는 사마리아 사람이라 17 예수께서 대답하여 이르시되 열 사람이 다 깨끗함을 받지 아니하였느냐 그 아홉은 어디 있느냐 18 이 이방인 외에는 하나님께 영광을 돌리러 돌아온 자가 없느냐 하시고 19 그에게 이르시되 일어나 가라 네 믿음이 너를 구원하였느니라 하시더라 예슈아의 입에서 나온 첫 말씀은 치유받은 자들에게 제사장에게 가라고 명하신 것이었습니다. 예슈아께서는 제사장들의 책임과 의무를 존중하셨습니다. 우리가 여기에서 읽는 바로 그 의례적 절차는 이 열 명의 나병환자들이 그들을 위해, 그리고 그들의 공동체를 위해 꼭 행해야 하는 것이었습니다. 회복된 한 명만이 예수님께 나아올 수 있었습니다. 그의 믿음이 그를 온전하게 만들었습니다. 저는 이 사람이 사마리아인이라고 언급된 것이 흥미롭다고 생각합니다. 이것은 다른 아홉 명 중 일부는 사마리아인이 아니라는 의미를 함축하고 있습니다. 어쨌든 그들은 갈릴리와 사마리아 사이에 있는 한 마을 사람들이었으니까요. 우리가 공동체 밖에 있는 사람들과 함께 있든 공동체 안에 있는 사람들과 함께 있든 우리 모두는 똑같이 예슈아의 피로 우리 죄를 씻고 깨끗하게 되어 서로에게 회복되고 온전하게 되는 은혜와 기회가 있습니다. 하나님께서 복 주시기를 축복합니다.

여러분이 개인적으로 모르는 형제자매들을 위해 드리는 기도는 순전한 사랑이며 메시아의 몸을 세우는 것입니다. 여러분이 이기적인 이해관계 없이 여러분이 모르지만 형제인 누군가를 위해 천국에서 투표를 하는 것이기에 이것은 아가페 사랑입니다. 그리고 하나님께서는 우리가 이 세상에서는 서로 모를지라도 우리를 함께 묶는 사랑과 믿음의 긴 사슬로 연결된 다른 사람을 위해 하는 이기적이지 않고 참된 사랑과 관심의 표현인 이 기도를 보고 계십니다.
우리가 천국에 가서 우리가 위해서 기도했고 때로는 울부짖었던 사람들을 만나게 되면 기쁜 일일 것입니다. 그들은 육신적으로는 모르지만 영적으로는 같은 그리스도의 몸의 지체인 형제자매들로서, 언젠가 함께 앉아 “제가 당신이 치유되도록 기도한 것이 기억납니다!”, “당신이 가자지구 하마스 테러리스트들의 잔인한 손아귀에서 인질들을 구하기 위해 가자지구에서 싸울 때 제가 당신이 안전하도록 기도한 것이 기억납니다!” 이야기 나누는 특권을 누리게 될 이들입니다.

The New Testament reading: Lk. 1:5-25 Joe and Marcia arrived home safely after a very very long trip from Nashville TN via Miami International to Tel Aviv airport to Jerusalem. I’ve spoken daily with mom and dad since they have returned home and dad is not feeling too well. He says its jet lag which I am sure makes the 8 hour difference in time, heavy on the eyelids. We spoke and I offered to take care of this week's JPL. As John Denver's song Back Home Again says Hey, it’s good to be back home again. yes, and hey it's good to be back home again We had a record of John Denver at home and it was one of the albums my mother liked to listen to. It was also the album I was able to learn to play a guitar with and figure out the chords. As An Israeli kid listening to songs about West Virginia (I’d never been in West Virginia, nor did I grow up on a farm). However, I still connected with the message. The feeling of being home, the feeling of it being Good. In Nafplio in Greece, I got to meet John Denver. Mom and dad were eating at the port at a restaurant with the fresh open air tables and boats all docked with families and other vacationers enjoying the sunny day and smells of grilling souvlaki permeating the sky. As a 6 year old, I was more than curious and fearless. I walked off from the table and onto the gangway of a yacht docked in the port in front of our table and started a conversation with a person on the deck. Well my charm was enough that John Denver was very gracious and returned me to my parents and a short conversation ensued on how cute and charming I was. Never would I have imagined that John Denver would have resulted in an entry in this week's JPL. That's life. A single event or study of the Bible can result years later in an implementation of a principle you studied. I call that the Holy Spirit working out in your life. Are You like me and find it foreign to read about purification processes and methods that the high priest is tasked to perform? Leviticus 14:1 And Jehovah spake unto Moses, saying, 2 This shall be the law of the leper in the day of his cleansing: he shall be brought unto the priest: 3 and the priest shall go forth out of the camp; and the priest shall look; and, behold, if the plague of leprosy be healed in the leper, 4 then shall the priest command to take for him that is to be cleansed two living clean birds, and cedar wood, and scarlet, and hyssop Two Birds, Cedar Wood, Scarlet and Hyssop, the detail of the processes of blood, water, sprinkling etc. is something that is far removed from our clean efficient world of getting things packaged from Amazon and our grocery stores. However, I think you can all relate to the idea of coming home. The idea of returning into the family is something we all can relate to. My first grade school in Jerusalem was named Henrietta Szold Elementary school. She was the founder of the Hadassah organization. I lived a 3 minute walk from our apartment to school. At the time I didn't know that if I walked further past the school 3 more minutes I would come across the Hanson House. It was located behind a row of trees. The Hanson house was created in 1885 as the Jesus Hilfe (Jesus Help) asylum for sufferers of Hansen’s disease, also called leprosy. BANDAGING ROOM, 1910. (photo credit: EMMAUS ARCHIVE) In our lifetime a disease that we all can relate to similar to leprosy is COVID. Families were kept away from loved ones, segregated in hospital wings. The same idea of being purified and certified as clean physically and spiritually still holds today. When applying for a travel visa to some countries, they want to know you have no symptoms at the time of travel. We learn that the Priest who was the spiritual authority also had physical duties he had to perform in observing and qualifying a person or a physical structure (home) as being clean (Pure). We learn that a person can be physically unclean as well as spiritually which will result in separation from God. A home in the same condition of physical uncleanliness can be defiled and in the worse case must be destroyed. The Priest pronounced a Clean house with the ritual of sprinkling the house seven times with the blood from the bird. 51 and he shall take the cedar wood, and the hyssop, and the scarlet, and the living bird, and dip them in the blood of the slain bird, and in the 4running water, and sprinkle the house seven times: 52 and he shall cleanse the house with the blood of the bird, and with the running water Sprinkling the house seven times reminds me of placing the blood on the doors in Egypt for a sign and protection. These are public rituals. The public nature of these rituals is part of what makes them important. It's part of restoring a person into his community. It's a recognition. This recognition is something Yeshua knew about and demonstrated in Luke 17. Luke 17:11 And it came to pass, 4as they were on the way to Jerusalem, that he was passing along the borders of Samaria and Galilee. 12 And as he entered into a certain village, there met him ten men that were lepers, who stood afar off: 13 and they lifted up their voices, saying, Jesus, Master, Have mercy on us. 14 And when he saw them, he said unto them, Go and show yourselves unto the priests. And it came to pass, as they went, they were cleansed. 15 And one of them, when he saw that he was healed, turned back, with a loud voice glorifying God; 16 and he fell upon his face at his feet, giving him thanks: and he was a Samaritan. 17 And Jesus answering said, Were not the ten cleansed? But where are the nine? 18 6Were there none found that returned to give glory to God, save this 7stranger? 19 And he said unto him, Arise, and go thy way: thy faith hath made thee whole. The first thing out of Yeshua’s mouth was to direct the healed to their Priest. Yeshua respected the duties and responsibilities of the Priests. The same ritual processes that we read about here was necessary for these 10 men to perform for their sake, and the community's sake. A single person who was restored was able to approach Jesus. His Faith made him Whole. I find it interesting that it was mentioned that He was a Samaritan. This implies that some of the other nine were not, after all they were in a village that straddled the border of Galilee and Samaria. When we find ourselves with those outside of the community and those inside we all have the same Grace and opportunity to purify ourselves through the blood of Yeshua from our sins and restore to one another to become Whole. Your prayers for brothers and sisters you don’t know personally is a pure love and building of the Body of the Messiah. It is Agape Love since you are doing this without any selfish interests and casting a vote in heaven for someone who is your brother. Still, you don't know them, and God looks at these prayers that are unselfish and genuine expression of love and care for another link in the long chain of love and faith that binds us together even though we might not know each other in this world.
When we all get to Heaven, it will be a joy to meet people we prayed for and sometimes even cried for. Brothers and sisters who are physically strangers but spiritually a part of the same body of Christ, I believe that one day we will have the privilege to sit together and share: "I remember praying for you to be healed!" "I remember praying for you to be safe when you were fighting in Gaza to free the hostages from the cruel hands of the terrorists of the Hamas in Gaza."

Ilana Ahijervie is a dear sister who is 98 years old and suffering from memory problems.
Please pray for our dear sister, Lea Kurkey.
Sarit, a sister born in Jerusalem, is over 88 years old and lives alone. She has no close family and suffers from several old-age illnesses.
Your prayers for Alexander, Sarah, and Andrew, who were raised as believers but have left their faith behind, have been answered. The Divine Shepherd guided these members of the same family gently back to the fold. Please keep praying for their general and spiritual welfare!
Pray for Adam’s father and mother, Barry and Dalia. They have some health problems and challenges.
Pray for Miriam and Hannah, her daughter. Miriam is a dear sister and has lost her husband recently.
Pray for Daniel S. and his children.

Ester, a dear sister in the faith, is anxious about the results of some tests she has completed. We are thankful for the tests being done, and please pray for happy results. Waiting can be stressful, and we want to pray for her needs.
Mauno Lemponen has been diagnosed with cancer in advanced stages. We are asking for Gods Will to be done, giving him healthy days with family—prayers for Hilka, Miika, and Ester, who support each other.
Pray for Keijo and Salme, our dear partners and fellow workers in God’s flock. Both Keijo and Salme have some challenging heart issues.
Sipra, our dear sister in Nokia, is a widow with some health issues.

Pray for the Congregations related to Netivyah in Brazil to have the strength and stamina to face the challenges ahead of them with courage and strength of faithfulness to the Lord and to the vision of the restoration of the church and Israel.
Pray for the millions of victims of the Spanish and Portuguese Inquisition who have been forced to convert to the Catholic church and now want to return home to the land of Israel and to the faith of our fathers.
Pray for the state of Israel to open the doors for these lost Jews to be able to return and fulfill God’s promises to the prophet Ovadyah:
“But on Mount Zion there shall be deliverance, And there shall be holiness; The house of Jacob shall possess their possessions. The house of Jacob shall be a fire, And the house of Joseph a flame; But the house of Esau shall be stubble; They shall kindle them and devour them, And no survivor shall remain of the house of Esau, For the Lord has spoken. Drayton Ford (Marcia's great nephew), age 14, has had health issues related to mold exposure that are affecting his ability to heal and participate in public school with mold contamination. Please pray for the family to have support and peace in the choices they need to make for Drayton's health and schooling.
Barbra and Angie in Alaska. Barbra has some pains and discomfort related to old age. Please lift them in prayer for strength and reduction in pain.
Ray Jimenez from California is batteling leukemia. Pray for God to sustain him and his time with the family.
Please continue to pray for the daughter of Bill Culwell, who is very sick with cancer and is receiving a second round of treatment. Please pray for success and healing.
Jonathan Bernis is in a long six-month recovery from a liver transplant. We thank God for this match. Please pray for this new liver to function and provide much-needed function. Please pray for Elisangela and the girls and the doctors and nurses attending our dear brother Jonathan Bernis.
Andrew Huffines has complications from long-term COVID-19.

Pray for David Young, the preacher in Murfreesboro, Tennessee, who is back to preaching after recovering from medical issues.

Pray for Steve Mock - His cognitive condition has declined, and we ask for the grace of God and His Healing and strength. Steve and Josie’s son Joseph has received a wonderful and glorious report. After the last bone marrow transplant, the report is that the doctors didn’t find any leukemia in his body! Praise the Lord!
