예루살렘 기도 목록 – 2022년 8월 25일

이스라엘의 여름은 매우 더운 날씨의 최고조에 달했는데요, 이는 곧 우기가 시작된다는 의미이고, 성경의 절기들이 새로운 시작을 맞는다는 의미입니다. 그리고 가을이 시작되면서 겨울을 준비할 것입니다.
이번 안식일 토라 포션은 “르에”(“보라”), 신명기 11:26~16:17입니다. 선지서에서 읽는 부분은 이사야 54:11~55:5, 신약성경에서 읽는 부분은 요한일서 4:1-6입니다. 이번 토라에는 시작부터 성경의 다른 책들에 비해 신명기에서 가장 중요한 패러다임이 있는데요, 이스라엘 백성에게 선택권을 주는 것입니다. 이번 토라 포션은 이 말씀으로 시작됩니다: “내가 오늘 복과 저주를 너희 앞에 두나니” — 신명기 11:26 하나님께서 그분의 자녀인 우리에게 선택권을 주신다는 이러한 독특한 특권은 신명기의 다음 구절에 가장 잘 기술되어 있습니다: “내가 오늘 하늘과 땅을 불러 너희에게 증거를 삼노라 내가 생명과 사망과 복과 저주를 네 앞에 두었은즉 너와 네 자손이 살기 위하여 생명을 택하고” — 신명기 30:19 이번 토라 포션에 기술된 이 사건은 저도 참여하고 싶어했을 그런 사건입니다. 저는 에벨산이나 그리심산에 서 있고, 제사장들은 이 두 산 사이 골짜기에 있고, 정적이 흐르다가 갑자기 그리심산에 서 있는 지파들이 저주를 선포하고, 여자와 아이들을 포함하여 모든 회중이 큰 소리로 하나님의 말씀에 긍정하는 모습을 상상할 수 있을 것 같습니다. 이 두 산은 높고, 둘 사이에는 거리가 있습니다. 모든 회중과 저 아래 골짜기에 있는 레위인들과 제사장들이 들을 수 있도록 사용할 마이크도 확성기도 없습니다. 이 두 산에는 매우 많은 사람들이 서서 다함께 외쳐 축복을 선포한 후 긍정하고, 저주를 선포한 후 긍정했을 것입니다. 신명기가 기술하고 있는 이 사건은 여호수아서에서 실제로 어떻게 일어났는지를 볼 수 있습니다: “그 때에 여호수아가 이스라엘의 하나님 여호와를 위하여 에발 산에 한 제단을 쌓았으니 이는 여호와의 종 모세가 이스라엘 자손에게 명령한 것과 모세의 율법책에 기록된 대로 쇠 연장으로 다듬지 아니한 새 돌로 만든 제단이라 무리가 여호와께 번제물과 화목제물을 그 위에 드렸으며 여호수아가 거기서 모세가 기록한 율법을 이스라엘 자손의 목전에서 그 돌에 기록하매 온 이스라엘과 그 장로들과 관리들과 재판장들과 본토인뿐 아니라 이방인까지 여호와의 언약궤를 멘 레위 사람 제사장들 앞에서 궤의 좌우에 서되 절반은 그리심 산 앞에, 절반은 에발 산 앞에 섰으니 이는 전에 여호와의 종 모세가 이스라엘 백성에게 축복하라고 명령한 대로 함이라 그 후에 여호수아가 율법책에 기록된 모든 것 대로 축복과 저주하는 율법의 모든 말씀을 낭독하였으니 모세가 명령한 것은 여호수아가 이스라엘 온 회중과 여자들과 아이와 그들 중에 동행하는 거류민들 앞에서 낭독하지 아니한 말이 하나도 없었더라.” — 여호수아 8:30-35 놀라운 일은 오늘날에도 아발산(에발산)에 여호수아가 세운 제단 유적이 남아 있어 볼 수 있다는 것입니다. 그 유적은 몇 년 전까지만 해도 훨씬 더 분명하게 볼 수 있었는데, 아랍 테러리스트들이 그 제단을 훼파하여 없애려고 했습니다. 그들이 그렇게 하지 못한 것은 그 제단에서 멀리 않은 곳에 이스라엘군 기지가 있기 때문입니다.  오늘날 아발산 정상에 있는 제단. 신명기 말씀과 여호수아의 말씀과 고고학적 발굴 유적과 아직도 볼 수 있는 거대 제단의 유적은 하나님의 신실하심과 성경 이야기의 역사성을 입증하는 가시적이고 기념비적인 증거입니다. 이것은 그야말로 기적이며, 저 개인에게는 저의 믿음을 더욱 굳게 세우고, 선택하되 생명을 선택하도록 돕는 살아있는 증거입니다!

예루살렘 태생의 87세가 넘으신 사리트 자매님은 혼자 살고 계십니다. 가까운 가족이 없고 여러 가지 노년병을 앓고 계십니다.
오랜 형제이자 친구인 귀한 다비드 스턴 형제님. 중증 파킨슨병을 앓고 계십니다.
치유가 필요한 질병이 있는, 네게브 광야에 살고 계시는 연로하신 귀한 예후다 호크만 형제님.

저의 사랑하는 아내는 심한 당뇨병과 류마티스 관절염과 지금은 기억력 소실로 고생하고 있습니다. 마르시아는 치매 진단을 받았습니다. 소아기 발병 당뇨병이 기억력 문제를 일으켰을 수 있습니다. 마르시아는 혼자 남겨두면 안 돼서, 저는 일주일의 대부분의 날을 집에 있어야 합니다. 그리고 제가 집을 떠날 일이 있으면, 누군가 마르시아가 인슐린을 복용하는지 확인하기 위해 와서 함께 있어야 합니다.

The Jerusalem Prayer List – August 25, 2022

The summer in Israel is giving us the last crescendo with very hot weather because it knows that soon the rainy season will start, and the biblical holidays will take up their new agenda. And autumn will set in, preparing for winter.
The Torah reading for this Shabbat is from the portion called Re’eh (“look here”) — Deuteronomy 11:26-16:17. From the prophets the reading is from Isaiah 54:11-55:5, and from the New Testament the reading is from 1 John 4:1-6. What we have in this Torah portion from the very beginning is one of the most important paradigms of the book of Deuteronomy. In the book of Deuteronomy, more than in other books of the Bible, there is the giving of choice to the people of Israel. Our Torah Portion starts with there following words: “Behold, I set before you today a blessing and a curse:” — Deuteronomy 11:26 This unique privilege that God gives us, His children, to make choices and choose, is best described in the following verse in the book of Deuteronomy: “I call heaven and earth as witnesses today against you, that I have set before you, life and death, blessing and cursing; therefore, choose life, that both you and your descendants may live…” — Deuteronomy 30:19 The event that is described in our Torah portion is one that I would have loved to participate in. I can imagine standing on Mount Abel or Mount Gerizim, and the priests are in the valley between the two mountains, and there is silence. And suddenly the tribes that are on Mount Gerizim proclaim the blessings, and the tribes that are on Mount Abel proclaim the curses. And all the people, including women and children, affirm God’s word with a loud voice. These mountains are high, and they have a distance between them. There were no microphones or amplifiers to use in order for all the people and the Levites and priests in the valley below to hear. There must have been a great number of people there on these two mountains to scream together the blessings and affirm them, and the cruses and affirm them. What an event the Book of Deuteronomy is describing here. In the book of Joshua, we have the following description how it actually happened: “Now Joshua built an altar to the Lord God of Israel in Mount Ebal, as Moses the servant of the Lord had commanded the children of Israel, as it is written in the Book of the Law of Moses: ‘an altar of whole stones over which no man has wielded an iron tool.’ And they offered on it burnt offerings to the Lord and sacrificed peace offerings. And there, in the presence of the children of Israel, he wrote on the stones a copy of the law of Moses, which he had written. Then all Israel, with their elders and officers and judges, stood on either side of the ark before the priests, the Levites, who bore the ark of the covenant of the Lord, the stranger as well as he who was born among them. Half of them were in front of Mount Gerizim and half of them in front of Mount Ebal, as Moses the servant of the Lord had commanded before, that they should bless the people of Israel. And afterward he read all the words of the law, the blessings and the cursings, according to all that is written in the Book of the Law. There was not a word of all that Moses had commanded which Joshua did not read before all the assembly of Israel, with the women, the little ones, and the strangers who were living among them.” — Joshua 8:30-35 The amazing thing is that today on top of Mount Abal the remains of the altar that Joshua built there are still visible. They were much more visible until a few years ago, but the Arab terrorists attempted to destroy and remove that altar. They were not able to do it because the Israeli military has a base not far from that altar. The altar atop Mount Abal today. This text from the book of Deuteronomy and from Joshua, the archaeological finds, and the great big altar that can still be seen through its ruins are tangible and monumental witnesses of God’s faithfulness and the historicity of the biblical narrative. This is nothing less than a miracle and a living witness that for me personally only builds my faith and helps me make the choice and choose life!

Lea Korky, a dear sister who is 89 years old and served for many years as a nurse in the Sha’arei Zedek Hospital in Jerusalem.
Sarit, a sister born in Jerusalem, over 87 years old, lives alone. Has no close family, and suffers from several old-age illnesses.
David Stern, a dear old brother, and friend. Suffering from advanced stages of Parkinson’s.
Yehuda Hochman, is a dear older brother living in the Negev desert with some illness that needs healing.
Please put Marcia Shulam and me, Joseph Shulam in your daily prayers. We trust in the Almighty God His mercy is sufficient for us, but prayer by honest and sincere brothers and sisters can surely wake up God’s mercy and at least stop the deterioration of Marcia’s memory.
My dear wife is suffering from severe diabetes and rheumatoid arthritis and now also from memory loss. She was diagnosed with dementia. Childhood-onset Diabetics are susceptible to memory problems. Marcia can’t be left alone, and I must stay home most of the days of the week, and if I leave the house someone has to come and stay with Marcia to make sure that she takes her insulin.
Pray for Adam R., Adam works in Netivyah as the media director and he, like Yehuda and Daniel, has been raised in Netivyah congregation in the Galilee. Adam has lost much of his hearing as a result of a virus. Pray for Adam and his family of 8 children.
Pray for Adam’s father and mother, Barry and Dalia. They too have some health problems and challenges.
