이번 안식일 토라 포션은 두 개로, “바야켈 페쿠데이” 출애굽기 35:1~40:38입니다. 선지자의 글에서 읽는 부문은 특별한데요, 새 달 니산월이 시작되기 때문입니다. 샤밧 하코데쉬(새 달이 시작되는 안식일) 하프타라는 에스겔 45:16~46:18이며, 규칙적으로 읽는 하프타라(베야켈 페쿠데이에 맞춰)는 열왕기상 7:51~8:21입니다. 신약성경에서는 고린도후서 3:1-14를 읽습니다.
이번 안식일은 유월절 2주 전입니다. 그리고 20개월 새 네 번째인 이스라엘 총선거가 유월절 휴가 전에 있을 예정입니다. 자신이 이스라엘의 친구라고 생각하는 분들께 날마다 이스라엘 나라를 위해 기도해 주시기를 간곡히 부탁드립니다. 저는 이 지구상에 이렇게 짧은 기간에 네 번의 총선을 한 민주주의는 한 번도 없었다고 생각합니다. 사실상, 이스라엘은 몇 년째 정부를 구성하지 못했고, 의회에서 예산도 통과되지 않았습니다. 이스라엘과 이스라엘의 민주주의를 위해서, 이번 선거에서 한 쪽에 분명하고 결정적인 승리가 있어, 우리 앞에 놓인 큰 위기들, 코로나바이러스와 이스라엘을 파괴하겠다고 위협하는 이란 문제를 뚫고 이 나라를 이끌어 갈 수 있는 안정되고 온전한 정신을 가진 정부를 구성할 수 있도록 기도해 주시기 바랍니다. 이제 하나님의 말씀 읽기로 들어갑니다. 토라 포션은 출애굽기 35장 1절부터 시작됩니다. 모세는 이스라엘 온 회중을 모읍니다! 우리는 아주 큰 무리에 대해 말하고 있는데요, 물어보아야 할 질문은 “그 말이 무슨 뜻인가?” 입니다. “모세가 이스라엘 자손의 온 회중을 모으고 그들에게 이르되 여호와께서 너희에게 명령하사 행하게 하신 말씀이 이러하니라.” – 출애굽기 35:1 이 본문 말씀을 이해하기 위해 필요한 논리적인 질문이 있습니다. 이 사건은 이스라엘이 애굽을 떠나고 약 2년 후에 일어났을 것입니다. 그들이 애굽을 떠날 때 20세에서 50세 사이의 장정이 60만 명 있었습니다: “이스라엘 자손이 라암셋을 떠나서 숙곳에 이르니 유아 외에 보행하는 장정이 육십만 가량이요.” – 출애굽기 12:37 그러니까, 방송설비도 없고, 대부분 남자들만 모세가 말하는 것을 듣기 위해 모였다고 생각할 때, 그 정도 군중이라면 모세의 음성을 듣는 것이, 특히 그가 말을 더듬는 것이 고쳐지지 않았다면, 그의 말을 듣고 이해하는 것이 어려웠을 것입니다. 그렇다면, “모세가 이스라엘 자손의 온 회중을 모았다.”는 것은 무슨 뜻일까요? The Jerusalem Prayer List – March 11, 2021

The reading this Shabbat is a double portion, “Vayakhel Pekudei”, Exodus 35:1 – 40:38. From the prophets the reading is special because it is the new moon of the month of Nissan, Haftarah Ezekiel 45:16 - 46:18, Shabbat HaChodesh and the Regular Haftarah (reading from the prophets) for Vayakhel Pekudei: I Kings 7:51 - 8:21. From the New Testament we read 2 Corinthians 3:1-14.
This Shabbat is two weeks before the Passover, and the Israeli parliamentary election, the fourth in 20 months, is going to be before the Passover holiday. Those who consider themselves friends of Israel we urge to pray every day for the state of Israel. I think that there has never been a democracy on the face of this Earth that has had four elections in such a short period of time. In effect, Israel has not had a government, and has not passed a budget, as a parliament, for several years. Please pray for Israel and for the Israeli democracy that in these elections there will be a clear and decisive victory for one side that will be able to create a stable and sane government that can lead this nation through the major crises that are upon us, the coronavirus and the Iran threat of the destruction of Israel. Now to the reading of God’s Word. The reading of Exodus 35 starts with verse one. Moses gathers all the people of Israel! We are talking a very large crowd, and the question that ought to be asked is, What does the word mean? “Then Moses gathered all the congregation of the children of Israel together, and said to them, ‘These are the words which the Lord has commanded you to do.’” – Exodus 35:1 [NKJV] There is a logical question that is required for an understanding of this text. This event might have happened about two years after Israel had left Egypt. When they left Egypt there were 600,000 men between the ages of 20 and 50: “Then the children of Israel journeyed from Rameses to Succoth, about six hundred thousand men on foot, besides children.” – Exodus 35:1-37 [NKJV] So, without a PA system available, and presuming that most of the men only would be gathered to hear Moses speak, that size crowd would have had difficulty hearing and understanding the voice of Moses, especially if he had not been healed from his stuttering. So, what does it mean, “Then Moses gathered all the congregation of the children of Israel together”? The probability is that representatives of the tribes and the families were gathered – representing every group and division of the people of Israel. This is why it says that those who were gathered were, “all the congregation.” This leaves an opening to a logical question regarding the situation and gathering that represented all of Israel. Why is this important? Because we have the text in Romans 11:26, where Paul states, “And so all of Israel will be saved…” “Now therefore, send and gather all Israel to me on Mount Carmel, the four hundred and fifty prophets of Baal, and the four hundred prophets of Asherah, who eat at Jezebel’s table.” – 1 Kings 18:19 [NKJV] We find out later in the story that there were hundreds, and even thousands of men of Israel, prophets and disciples of the prophets, that were hiding in caves from the wrath of Queen Jezebel and that were not up there on the top of Mount Carmel with Elijah. So, the word “all” often means that not all were represented there by their proper representation. This might be a small detail and might seem unimportant, but logic and reason are always important and when we read the word of God we are required to think and to think with reason. If we don’t we can’t build our faith to the degree that is required, to be able to truly follow the Messiah. Faith has to use reason and rational thinking in order to be standing up for the word of God. It is interesting that the first thing that Moses commands the people of Israel, is to keep the Sabbath day. The camp of Israel was like a beehive with people collecting silver and gold, wood, cloth of crimson and royal blue, leatherworkers and stone masons. People were working hard under the guidance of Bezalel the Son of Uri and his staff in the building of the Tabernacle. Now Moses is repeating one of the Ten Commandments, the keeping of and resting on the Sabbath day. This is very interesting to me! I could think of dozens of issues that would be more relevant and important to these people who are finally free from slavery. I would think that people who were slaves would naturally seek every opportunity to rest and be more than happy to rest at every opportunity. God’s wisdom expressed through Moses is to give Israel this very clear command to keep the Sabbath day both for the masters and the servants for the rich and for the poor of Israel. The next thing that Moses commands the people is to give, to contribute: “Take from among you an offering to the Lord. Whoever is of a willing heart, let him bring it as an offering to the Lord: gold, silver, and bronze; blue, purple, and scarlet thread, fine linen, and goats’ hair; ram skins dyed red, badger skins, and acacia wood; oil for the light, and spices for the anointing oil and for the sweet incense; onyx stones, and stones to be set in the ephod and in the breastplate.” – Exodus 35:5-9 [NKJV] The speech that Moses is giving is a divine order and if it is in the order of importance – than Moses is hitting a hot iron for us today. There is no love without sacrifice and there is no sacrifice without giving from your heart. The Lord is presenting some of the most important things that the people of Israel need to know and do, as they set forth on 38 years of wilderness wandering, before they enter into the promised land of Canaan. This amazes me to think that it is the Sabbath and the contributions and sacrifice of the people of Israel that bonds these ex-slaves together and forges through suffering and sacrificing, twelve estranged tribes, into a nation. I am thinking of the tribes of Israel and of the competitive spirit that existed between them from the beginning of their childhood in the house of Jacob their father. I am thinking of the blessings and non-blessings that Jacob delivered to the fathers of these twelve tribes on his death bed. Now they were all standing before the fearful Mount Sinai, they have all heard the voice of God speaking from the mountain, they all are eating the mana from heaven every day. Now, it seems like they have graduated from the Mount Sinai college and they have to step out into the harsh and difficult desert of life’s survival. God gives Moses the most important things that these people of Israel need to know and do during their future wanderings through the barren desert. So, first they need to know when to rest and how to rest. This is as important as knowing how to work, and what work to do. If people don’t know how to rest (the best way is in accordance with the manufacturer’s prescription, our creator Himself and His instructions), also without His instructions, they will also not be able to work the way that they ought to work. If the people don’t know how to give and contribute and sacrifice for the Lord’s people they will not know how to contribute to their own community or even to their families. The next chapters, all the way to the end of the book of Exodus, give us every instrument every furniture, every tool and procedure that is to be carried in the tabernacle of the Lord. Every single tool and part of the tent called the “Tent of Meeting,” the Tabernacle (which is another word for tent) is given with detailed instructions down to the last detail. What can I personally learn from these tedious and super detailed instructions? Well, I learn that the great creator of the universe, the one who so loves the world that He sent His only begotten Son to be a sacrifice and salvation for all of humanity. This God, is a God who cares and leads and guides His children even down to the smallest detailed instruction of His will for us, as His children. I would like to share a few words also about the reading from the prophets and also from the New Testament. From the prophets the reading that is connected with the Torah portion is from 1 Kings 7-8, the building and dedication of the Temple by King Solomon. The temple was a building not from cloth and leather, but from stone. It was a magnificent building. Solomon brought 50,000 foreign workers from Tyre in the Lebanon. He imported cedar wood from Lebanon, gold from Tarshish, and purple from Lebanon. After the building was finished Solomon made one of those dramatic statements that ought to be posted on every synagogue and church building. These are the words of Solomon in his dedication of the Temple in Jerusalem: “‘And now I pray, O God of Israel, let Your word come true, which You have spoken to Your servant David my father. “But will God indeed dwell on the earth? Behold, heaven and the heaven of heavens cannot contain You. How much less this temple which I have built! Yet regard the prayer of Your servant and his supplication, O Lord my God, and listen to the cry and the prayer which Your servant is praying before You today: that Your eyes may be open toward this temple night and day, toward the place of which You said, ‘My name shall be there,’ that You may hear the prayer which Your servant makes toward this place. And may You hear the supplication of Your servant and of Your people Israel, when they pray toward this place. Hear in heaven Your dwelling place; and when You hear, forgive.’” – 1 Kings 8:26-30 [NKJV] This dedication speech of Solomon is one that has influenced me the most, together with Paul’s speech on Mars Hill, in Athens. Paul states the same thing that Solomon is saying here in 1 Kings. Paul says: “God, who made the world and everything in it, since He is Lord of heaven and earth, does not dwell in temples made with hands. Nor is He worshiped with men’s hands, as though He needed anything, since He gives to all life, breath, and all things.” – Acts 17:24,25 [NKJV] This is a lesson that all of us, Jews and Messianic Jews, and Christians of all denominations, must know this truth that both Solomon and Paul and the prophets of Israel (see Isaiah chapter 1) knew. The Tabernacle built in the wildness with all of its intricacies and detailed instructions was built for the people of Israel. The Lord was above it as a pillar of fire by night and cloud by day, not inside of it. It is idolatrous to think that church buildings or synagogues are the house of God, no they are houses for us, for us humans to have a place that is sanctified by God for His children to gather and to serve and to proclaim His goodness and mercy for all! The individual, the community, is where God dwells. In the hearts of the people and within the anointing of the Holy Spirit is the place that God dwells as the Torah said, “And let them make Me a sanctuary, that I may dwell among them.” – Exodus 25:6 [NKJV] I urge you to read the Torah portions and the prophets, and from the New Testament every week. The choice of texts is based on the relationship between these texts, and the relationship of the texts with each other, Torah, Prophets and the New Testament, makes the picture complete.
Please continue to pray a special prayer for Marcia. Praise the Lord she received the first vaccination for the coronavirus, and on March 5th, Marcia received the second vaccine. She is doing well and I ask you to continue to pray for Marcia and for the rest of my family. Pray for Danah and Noaam, and for Barry, Beth, and Joey. Marcia has definitely slowed down significantly. She has very little energy and she rests most of the day. I am praying and believing in the Lord’s grace for healing Marcia and restoring her ability to function and travel with me and to be a blessing to the local congregation and community and to our brothers and friends around the world. Pray for Marcia, please!
We have a new prayer request from a dear family in Jerusalem that needs urgent divine help and guidance. The family of our dear brother Adam R.
Please add brother Yehuda Hochman in your prayers. Yehuda has kidney problems and he is on dialysis and needs our prayers. Also add a pastor who lives in the state of Bahia in Brazil in the town of Alaguinia. Pastor Renz and his whole family are sick with coronavirus, and many in their fellowship are also infected. These are precious brothers living in the interior of Bahia. Your prayers will help.
Please consider helping Netivyah to continue caring and feeding the poor of Jerusalem and blessing the people of this city that need help to feed their children and families.
Also we need your prayers and help to continue to do the Lord's work with the youth, and with the publication of the “Teaching from Zion” Magazine and so many other things that have influence around the world.
The Hamotzi program for feeding the needy of Jerusalem is ongoing and has not stopped during most of the coronavirus lock-down and quarantine. The number of needy people who come to receive food from our program has increased and overall need has increased.
Please continue to pray for a very special kindergarten in Jerusalem “Little Hearts.” The director of this special kindergarten is one of our own from the congregation.
Keep praying for a dear sister, Livia Schnell Nothen. Please keep brother Philip Marc in your prayers. Pray for Paulo C. Pereira Braga Dias. He is the father of a dear sister in Brazil.
Pray for all those wonderful, dedicated brothers and sisters in Korea who stood with Israel and with Netivyah to revive and to not forget their first love for Israel and for Netivyah.
Danah our daughter, needs much prayer for her health and her situation. Our granddaughter Noam is a senior in high-school and working with Zoom to finish her high school. Pray for the Lord to give Noam guidance and direction for graduation from high school.
Our grandson Joseph also needs prayer to be able to get into college with proper scholarships. Please lift Barry our son and his family, Beth, and Joey our grandson to be protected and spared any contact and infection of the coronavirus. Marcia’s mother June is 91 years old and her health is failing.
Our dear sister Hadassah continues her healing and recovery from cancer. Keep her in your prayers.

Pray for Sister Yoko Nagumo in Japan. Sister Yoko had a stroke, and we pray that her recovery will be quick and complete.
From Chennai, India, please remember Pastor Isaac. Pastor Isaac is an older man with severe kidney problems and has to have dialysis several times per week. Remember Tony and Louisa Tam, and our brothers and sisters at the 611 Church, and the other churches who love God and love Israel in that great city. I have just received a prayer request from a dear sister from Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Her father who is 70 years old and diabetic has contracted the COVID-19 virus. His name is Paulo C. Pereira Braga Dias.
Please see your prayer as casting a vote for healing before the Lord and His angels in Heaven in favor of every brother and sister that you are praying for. Just a word of grace for all of us is a refreshing spirit. Take your prayers before the mercy seat of the Almighty to be heard in favor of those that you are lifting in prayer.

Pray for Hadassah for a full recovery and remission from any cancer in her body.
Pray for Israel. We are going through terrible riots and violence in the streets of Jerusalem and Tel-Aviv and other places around the country. These riots are motivated by the fact that much of the populace of Israel does not understand what the government is doing in relationship to the coronavirus pandemic.
I pray that the Lord will inspire and motivate brothers and sisters and ministries who can help with this to visit our webpage and do what they can to make it possible for us to double or more than double, the number of people and families that we serve.

The coronavirus is threatening the economy of the world with a great recession and depression. Some of our major supporters have already lowered the amount of their support. They have done this not only toward Netivyah, but for all the ministries that they are supporting, and they are many. I would like to first ask you to pray about your part in supporting Netivyah Bible Instruction Ministry.
Second, I would like for you who stand with us in prayer and financially to do your absolute best to stay on board with us and communicate. We realize that times will be hard for several years, but we also realize that God has chosen and blessed you for such a time as this.
