몇 년에 한 번씩 유월절이나 오순절 이후 몇 주 동안 이스라엘에서는, 세계의 다른 곳보다 한 토라 포션을 앞서 갑니다.
이번 주 이스라엘 외 지역의 토라 포션은 “셰랔 렠하”인데요, 여러분은 여기에서 이것에 대해 배우실 수 있을 것입니다.
이번 주 토라 포션은 “코라(고라)”입니다. 이 사람 고라는 누구였습니까? 개인적으로 제게 이 토라 포션은 수수께끼입니다. 이 토라 포션을 읽을 때 제가 언제 어떻게 세계 어디에 있든지, 저는 그것을 가르치고 설교하게 됩니다. 제가 “고라는 누구였습니까?”라는 이 문제를 여러분과 나누기로 결정한 이유는, 마태복음 1장과 누가복음에 있는 예슈아의 두 족보를 공격하는, 복음의 반대 세력, 예슈아의 유대인 제자들의 반대 세력에 있는 랍비들이 자주 사용하는 오래된 논쟁 때문입니다. 우리가 성경을 주의 깊게 조사해 보면 일반적으로 족보에 문제가 있음을 알 수 있습니다. 대부분의 경우 족보는 역사적 증빙이 아닌 정치적 목적으로 사용됩니다. 고라의 문제는 이러한 현상의 좋은 예입니다. 다음은 하나님의 말씀에 나오는 고라의 여러 족보입니다: 출애굽기 6:18 이후 절은 짧은 족보를 제시합니다: 고핫, 이스할, 고라, 앗실과 엘가나와 아비아삽 민수기 16:1에서는: “레위의 증손 고핫의 손자 이스할의 아들 고라와 르우벤 자손 엘리압의 아들 다단과 아비람과 벨렛의 아들 온이 당을 짓고” — 민수기 16:1 역대상 6:22-24에서는: 그핫(고핫), 암미나답, 고라, 앗실, 엘가나, 에비아삽, 앗실, 다핫, 우리엘, 웃시야, 사울… 역대상 6:31 이후 절에서는: 그핫(고핫), 이스할, 고라, 에비아삽, 앗실, 다핫, 스바냐, 아사랴, 요엘, 엘가나, 아마새, 마핫, 엘가나, 숩, 도아, 엘리엘, 여로함, 엘가나, 사무엘, 요엘, 찬송하는 자 헤만… 저는 하나님과 살아계신 하나님의 아들 메시야이신 예슈아에 대한 우리의 믿음을 파괴하고 욕되게 하려는 자들에게 대답할 정보를 제공하기 위해 이것을 여러분에게 나눕니다! 진리를 위한 싸움은, 성도들이 흰옷을 입고 주님의 큰 보좌 앞에 모이고, 예슈아께서 심판 자리에 앉으시고, 우리가 모세의 노래와 하나님의 어린양의 노래를 부르는 그 큰 날까지는, 완전히 승리하는 싸움이 아닙니다. 그 큰 날, 그 큰 경사에 모든 거짓 교사와 하나님의 택하신 자들을 비방하던 자들은 엎드려 자비를 구하고 용서를 구할 것입니다. 그러나 그 때는 너무 늦을 것입니다. 은혜로운 재판관은 말씀하시기를 “너희 염소들은 하나님의 어린양과 함께 있을 곳이 없도다. 내려가서 애굽의 바로와 바사인 하만과 헬라인 안티오코스와 함께 하라… 자기 자신만의 이익을 위해 악을 행하고 인류를 학대한 자들과 영원히 함께 하라…” 하실 것입니다. 이번 안식일 토라 포션은 “코라(고라)”라고 하는 민수기 16:1~18:32이고, 선지서에서는 사무엘상 11:14~12:22을 읽고, 신약성경에서는 로마서 13:1-7을 읽습니다. 제가 제안하는 것은 언제나처럼 우리 각 사람이 토라와 선지서와 신약성경에서 말씀을 읽자는 것입니다. 저는 1980년대 초 시카고 외곽에서 한 회중을 이끈 오랜 친구 제임스 타볼 박사를 기억합니다. 그는 그의 회중으로 하여금 토라와 선지서와 신약성경과 미쉬나를 읽게 했습니다. 우리는 그렇게까지는 하지 않을 것이지만, 예슈아와 사도들이 했던 것과 똑같은 전통 그대로 할 것입니다. 그리고 추가로 사도들의 가르침인 신약성경도 읽을 것입니다. 우리가 이번 토라 포션에서 읽는 고라의 반역 도당은 이스라엘의 두 지파의 지도자들이 연합한 것이었습니다. 즉, 아론과 모세의 지파인 레위 지파와 야곱과 레아의 장남 르우벤 지파였습니다. 레위 지파는 제사장 지파이고 르우벤 지파는 야곱의 자녀 중 장남 지파이기 때문에 이 두 지파 사람들은 자칭 엘리트라고 자부하는 사람들입니다. 고라 무리의 반역과 그 동기와 주장을 살펴봅시다. 제가 이 본문이 우리에게 중요한 본문이라고 생각하는 이유는 우리도 우리가 살고 있는 우리 시대에 고라와 반역의 무리가 주장한 것과 똑같은 주장을 목도하고 있기 때문입니다. 네, 이 주장은 모세 시대에 시내 광야에서 그렇게 보였던 것처럼 오늘날에도 공정하고 합리적인 것 같이 보입니다. “레위의 증손 고핫의 손자 이스할의 아들 고라와 르우벤 자손 엘리압의 아들 다단과 아비람과 벨렛의 아들 온이 당을 짓고 이스라엘 자손 총회에서 택함을 받은 자 곧 회중 가운데에서 이름 있는 지휘관 이백오십 명과 함께 일어나서 모세를 거스르니라 그들이 모여서 모세와 아론을 거슬러 그들에게 이르되 너희가 분수에 지나도다 회중이 다 각각 거룩하고 여호와께서도 그들 중에 계시거늘 너희가 어찌하여 여호와의 총회 위에 스스로 높이느냐?” — 민수기 16:1-3 첫째, 고라와 함께 한 사람들이 이미 모세와 문제가 있었고, 애굽에서부터 모세와 아론을 대적하여 명성과 명예를 추구하던 도단과 아비람이었다는 사실을 주목하도록 합시다. 둘째, 지도자직의 한 몫을 공유하여 모세의 지위를 낮추고자 한 이 모든 사람들이 회중을 대표하는(“의회 의원”) 유명한 사람들이었다는 점을 주목하도록 합시다. 이들 유명인들은 이스라엘 진영에서 힘 있고 부유하고 인기 있고 오늘날 우리가 VIP라고 부를만한 사람들이었습니다. 열심히 일하며 헌신되고 겸손하고 신실한 보통 사람 요셉, 납달리, 사무엘 같은 사람들은 모세를 대적하여 반역하지 않았습니다. 이런 사람들은 먹고 살고 일하며 가족을 돌보고 도움이 필요한 사람들을 돕기에 바쁩니다. 이스라엘 진영에서 조용히 자원 봉사하며 인정을 추구하지 않는데요, 이들은 자기의 선행에 대한 진정한 상급을 사람이 아닌 하나님에게서 바라기 때문입니다. 다음으로 주목해야 할 것은 이 반역자들이 모세를 대적하여 주장하는 내용입니다: 1. “…너희가 분수에 지나도다!” 2. “우리도 모두 거룩하고 너희가 인도하는 것처럼 똑같이 인도할 수 있다…” (이 말이 담고 있는 뜻은 이것입니다: “당신 모세는 권력과 지도자직을 우리와 나누지 않았다. 당신 혼자 다 하고자 한다!”) 3. “모세 당신은 지도자 자리에 너무 오래 있었다. 이제 우리가 이끌어가게 하고 당신은 물러나야 할 듯하다! 이제 그만 회중 위에 군림하라.” 저는 지난 3년 동안 우리 모두가 적어도 이번 토라 포션과 유사한 지도자직에 대한 주장에 익숙했으리라 생각합니다. 이제 고라와 그와 함께 한 반역의 무리의 주장에 대해 보인 모세의 반응에서 교훈을 배우도록 합시다: “모세가 듣고 엎드렸다가 고라와 그의 모든 무리에게 말하여 이르되 아침에 여호와께서 자기에게 속한 자가 누구인지, 거룩한 자가 누구인지 보이시고 그 사람을 자기에게 가까이 나아오게 하시되 곧 그가 택하신 자를 자기에게 가까이 나아오게 하시리니 이렇게 하라 너 고라와 네 모든 무리는 향로를 가져다가 내일 여호와 앞에서 그 향로에 불을 담고 그 위에 향을 두라 그 때에 여호와께서 택하신 자는 거룩하게 되리라 레위 자손들아 너희가 너무 분수에 지나치느니라 모세가 또 고라에게 이르되 너희 레위 자손들아 들으라 이스라엘의 하나님이 이스라엘 회중에서 너희를 구별하여 자기에게 가까이 하게 하사 여호와의 성막에서 봉사하게 하시며 회중 앞에 서서 그들을 대신하여 섬기게 하심이 너희에게 작은 일이겠느냐 하나님이 너와 네 모든 형제 레위 자손으로 너와 함께 가까이 오게 하셨거늘 너희가 오히려 제사장의 직분을 구하느냐?” — 민수기 16:4-10 모세가 첫 번째로 한 일은 엎드린 것입니다. 엎드린다는 것은 아브라함과 이삭과 야곱의 주 하나님께 순복한다는 것입니다. 이것은 자기 주인 앞에 순종하는 종의 태도로, 모든 일에 주인의 결정을 순순히 받아들이는 것입니다. (성경 전체를 보면 하나님의 역사나 성령의 역사로 사람이 나자빠지는 예는 없습니다. 이 거짓되고 날조된 행동은 순전히 이교적이고, 이상하고, 거짓 선지자와 거짓 사도들에 의한 인위적인 것입니다. 저는 기독교 TV 서커스에서 매우 유명하고 영예를 얻고 부유한 가짜들에게서 떠밀려 본 적 있는 사람으로서 이것을 말합니다.) 모세가 두 번째로 한 일은 자신을 변호하기 위한 행동을 취한 것이었습니다. 모세는 전능자께서 시내 광야를 거쳐 아브라함과 이삭과 이스라엘에게 영원한 기업으로 약속된 가나안 땅으로 이스라엘을 인도하도록 택한 사람이 누구인지 여호와께서 친히 증명하게 해드렸습니다. 이것은 매우 중요한 포인트입니다. 우리는 적들로부터 우리 자신을 방어하기 위해 적이 사용하는 것과 똑같은 도구를 사용할 필요가 없습니다. 우리는 하나님의 종이자 그분의 백성으로서 이 온 세상의 창조주께서 그분의 종들을 보호하시기 위해 무엇을 어떻게 해야 하는지 알고 계시다는 것을 완전히 확신해야 합니다. 우리가 되풀이하는 실수는 우리가 직접 대응해야 한다고 느끼는 것이며, 일반적으로 우리는 적들이 사용하는 것과 똑같은 약하고 나쁜 도구를 가지고 대응한다는 것입니다. 우리는 이 사건에서와 같이 하나님께서 가장 품위 있고 강력한 방법으로 우리의 원수들을 처리하시도록 해드린 모세에게서 배워야 합니다. 우리는 하나님께서 가장 잘 아시는 분이시며 하나님께서 그분의 자녀들과 그분의 종들에게 가장 좋은 것이 무엇인지 아신다는 사실을 항상 상기해야 합니다. 우리는 핍박 중의 고통과 고난에 대해 즉각적인 보상과 배상이 필요하지 않습니다. 우리에게 필요한 실제적이고 장기적이며 최종적인 보상과 배상은 우리의 원수가 그들의 삶의 가장 중요한 때에 하나님에 의해 수치를 당하는 것을 보는 것입니다! 그것은 제 인생에서 한 번 이상 일어났습니다. 그리고 저는 저 자신을 위해 제가 “OK 목장의 결투”에서 개리 쿠퍼처럼 될 필요가 없도록 하나님께서 항상 제게 지혜와 인내와 체력을 주시길 기도합니다. (저는 제가 항상 말 조심하는 데 성공하는 것도, 적보다 더 덕 있게 대응하는 것도 아니라는 것을 고백합니다!) 이 사건에서 레위 지파의 반역의 자손에 대한 모세와 하나님의 반응에서 우리가 배우는 세 번째는, 원수의 악한 손이 악을 행하고 하나님의 나라를 파괴하며 손상시키고 하나님의 아들과 그분의 나라를 훼손하도록 요구하는 것을 멈추기 위해 모세나 우리 인간이 할 수 있는 그 어떤 것보다 하나님의 심판이 훨씬 더 효과적이고 교육적이라는 것입니다. 하나님께서 우리와 그분의 나라에서의 우리의 위치와 사명을 변호하실 때, 그분의 변호는 대개 최종적입니다. 모든 경우에 하나님께서는 우리의 원수들에 대해 행동하시기 전에 그들에게 깨닫고, 회개하고, 마음을 바꾸고, 용서를 구하고, 악한 길에서 돌이킬 기회를 주십니다. 이것은 모든 경우에 그렇습니다. “민주주의와 평등”을 주장하면서 하나님의 기름부음받은 자 모세를 멸망시키려고 했던 고라와 그와 함께한 반역 도당 이스라엘 지도자 250명의 경우에도 그랬습니다! “모세가 심히 노하여 여호와께 여짜오되 주는 그들의 헌물을 돌아보지 마옵소서 나는 그들의 나귀 한 마리도 빼앗지 아니하였고 그들 중의 한 사람도 해하지 아니하였나이다 하고” — 민수기 16:15 다음 말씀은 모세와 하나님께서 어떻게 고라와 그의 무리에게 회개할 기회를 주셨는지를 보여줍니다. 이것은 우리가 이 하나님의 말씀에서 배워야 할 중요한 점입니다. 첫째, 모세는 하나님의 인도를 받아 고라와 그의 무리에게 이렇게 말합니다: “이에 모세가 고라에게 이르되 너와 너의 온 무리는 아론과 함께 내일 여호와 앞으로 나아오되 너희는 제각기 향로를 들고 그 위에 향을 얹고 각 사람이 그 향로를 여호와 앞으로 가져오라 향로는 모두 이백오십 개라 너와 아론도 각각 향로를 가지고 올지니라 그들이 제각기 향로를 가져다가 불을 담고 향을 그 위에 얹고 모세와 아론과 더불어 회막 문에 서니라 고라가 온 회중을 회막 문에 모아 놓고 그 두 사람을 대적하려 하매 여호와의 영광이 온 회중에게 나타나시니라.” — 민수기 16:16-19 둘째, 다음과 같이 했습니다: “여호와께서 모세와 아론에게 말씀하여 이르시되 너희는 이 회중에게서 떠나라 내가 순식간에 그들을 멸하려 하노라 그 두 사람이 엎드려 이르되 하나님이여 모든 육체의 생명의 하나님이여 한 사람이 범죄하였거늘 온 회중에게 진노하시나이까?” — 민수기 16:20-22 해야 할 일은 적과의 싸움과 논쟁을 멈추는 것입니다. 적으로부터 떨어져 멀리하십시오. 그냥 무시하고 물러나고, 싸움을 멈추고, 원한을 멈추십시오. 멀리 하십시오! 이것이 거룩한 지혜입니다! 우리는 모든 싸움에서 이길 필요가 없습니다. 그러나 주님께 충성을 다하는 것과 성령의 인도하심에는 충실해야 합니다. 우리는 하나님과 그분의 말씀을 가까이 하여 하나님의 성령의 말씀을 구하며 듣는 법을 배워야 하며, 하나님과 동행한 오랜 경험이 있는 다른 연장자 형제들의 조언과 그들과의 교제를 통해 하나님의 말씀을 들을 수 있는 마음을 열어야 합니다. 셋째, 하나님의 자녀들과 그분의 나라를 위해 항상 정의롭고 최선의 일을 하시는 하나님의 역사를 지켜보십시오. 이것이 하나님께서 고라의 반역 도당 유명인 250명의 지도자들과 그들의 가족에게 하신 일입니다! “그가 이 모든 말을 마치자마자 그들이 섰던 땅바닥이 갈라지니라 땅이 그 입을 열어 그들과 그들의 집과 고라에게 속한 모든 사람과 그들의 재물을 삼키매 그들과 그의 모든 재물이 산 채로 스올에 빠지며 땅이 그 위에 덮이니 그들이 회중 가운데서 망하니라 그 주위에 있는 온 이스라엘이 그들의 부르짖음을 듣고 도망하며 이르되 땅이 우리도 삼킬까 두렵다 하였고” — 민수기 16:31-34 우리 자신의 반항심을 멈추도록 합시다! 주님께서 우리의 싸움을 싸우시도록 해드립시다! 주님의 뜻에 순복하고 그분의 선택을 받아들이면서 날마다 주님 앞에 엎드립시다! 저의 사랑하는 아내는 심한 당뇨병과 류마티스 관절염과 지금은 기억력 소실로 고생하고 있습니다. 마르시아는 치매 진단을 받았습니다. 소아기 발병 당뇨병이 기억력 문제를 일으켰을 수 있습니다. 마르시아는 혼자 남겨두면 안 돼서, 저는 일주일의 대부분의 날을 집에 있어야 합니다. 그리고 제가 집을 떠날 일이 있으면, 누군가 마르시아가 인슐린을 복용하는지 확인하기 위해 와서 함께 있어야 합니다.

The Jerusalem Prayer List – June 23, 2022

Please note:
Every few years for a few weeks following either Passover or Shavuot, in Israel, we are one Torah portion ahead of the rest of the world.
This week’s portion, outside of Israel, is Shelach, which you learn about here.
This week’s portion of the Torah reading is called Korah. Who was this man Korah? For me personally this Torah portion is an enigma. No matter how and no matter when and no matter where in the world I am when this Torah portion is being read, I get to teach it and preach it. I chose to share with you this issue of “who was Korah?” Because of an old polemic argument that is often used by the anti-gospel, anti-Jewish-disciples-of-Yeshua rabbis that attack the two genealogies of Yeshua. The one from Matthew chapter 1 and the one from Luke. When we examine the Bible carefully we see that genealogies in general have problems. Most often the genealogies are used for political purposes, and not as historical certification. The issue of Korah is a good example of this phenomenon. Here are the different genealogies of Korah in the Word of God: Exodus 6:18 presents the shortest genealogy: Kohath , Izhar , Korah, Assir, Elkanah, and Abiasaph Numbers 16:1 “Now Korah the son of Izhar, the son of Kohath, the son of Levi, with Dathan and Abiram the sons of Eliab, and On the son of Peleth, sons of Reuben, took men…” — Numbers 16:1 In 1 Chronicles 6:22-24: Kohath, Amminadab, Korah, Assir, Elkanah, Ebiasaph, Assir, Tahath, Uriel, Uzziah, Shaul… In 1 Chronicles 6:31: Kohath, Izhar, Korah, Ebiasaph, Assir, Tahath, Zephaniah, Azariah, Joel, Elkanah, Amasai, Mahath, Elkanah, Zuph, Toah, Eliel, Jeroham, Elkanah, Samuel, Joel, Heman the Singer… This I share with you in order to give you information to answer those who seek to destroy and defame our faith in God, and in Yeshua as the Messiah, the Son of the Living God! The battle for truth is not a battle that will be fully victorious until that great day that the saints will be gathered, dressed in white, in front of the great throne of the Lord. And Yeshua will be seated in judgment, and we will be singing the Song of Moses and the Song of the Lamb of God. On that great day and great occasion, all false teachers and defamers of God’s chosen ones will fall, begging for mercy and asking forgiveness. But it will be too late. The gracious Judge will say, “You goats have no room with God’s lambs, go down and join the Pharaohs of Egypt and Haman the Persian, and Antiochus the Greek… Go for eternity with those who did evil, and abused humanity for their own gain…” The reading of this shabbat is from the portion called Korah, Numbers 16:1-18:32, from the prophets we will be reading from 1 Samuel 11:14-12:22, and from the New Testament we will be reading Romans 13:1-7. My suggestion is always for every one of us to read from the Torah, from the prophets, and from the New Testament. I remember an old friend who led a congregation outside of Chicago in the early 1980’s — Dr. James Tabor. He had his congregation reading from the Torah, the prophets, the New Testament, and from the Mishnah. We are not going that far, but we are staying within the same tradition as Yeshua and the apostles did. And we add a complementary reading from the teachings of the apostles, the New Testament. The Korahite rebellion that we read about in our Torah portion is a union of the leadership of two major tribes in Israel. The tribe of Levi, that is the tribe of Aaron and Moses, and the tribe of Reuben, who was the firstborn of Jacob and Leah. People of two tribes that have a claim of elite status. Levi being the tribes of the priests, and Reuben being the firstborn of Jacob’s children. Let us examine the Korahite rebellion and it’s motives and claims. The reason I think that this is an important text for us is because we are witnessing today in our time the same claims with the same motives that Korah and his band of rebels claimed. Yes, these claims seem just and reasonable today as they did in the days of Moses in the wilderness of Sinai. “Now Korah the son of Izhar, the son of Kohath, the son of Levi, with Dathan and Abiram the sons of Eliab, and On the son of Peleth, sons of Reuben, took men; and they rose up before Moses with some of the children of Israel, two hundred and fifty leaders of the congregation, representatives of the congregation, men of renown. They gathered together against Moses and Aaron, and said to them, ‘You take too much upon yourselves, for all the congregation is holy, every one of them, and the Lord is among them. Why then do you exalt yourselves above the assembly of the Lord?’” — Numbers 16:1-3 [NKJV] Let us notice first that the people who joined Korah are people who already had problems with Moses, and people who were seeking notoriety and honor even in Egypt by speaking against Moses and Aaron, Dothan, and Abiram. Second, notice that all those who wanted to take a share of the leadership and demote Moses were representatives of the congregation (“Knesset members”) and men of renown. These men of renown were the powerful, rich, and popular, whom we would call today the VIPs of the camp of Israel. The hard-working, dedicated, humble, and faithful regular Joe’s, Naftali’s, and Samuel’s didn’t rebel against Moses. They were busy living and working and taking care of their families, and helping those who needed help. Quietly volunteering in the camp of Israel, and not seeking recognition. Because they were looking for their true reward for their good works from God and not from men. The next thing to notice is the claims of these rebels against Moses: 1. “…you take too much upon yourselves!” 2. “We are all holy and equally capable of leading just as well as you can lead…” (and the implication of this statement is that: “You Moses do not share with us the power and the leadership. You want to do it all alone yourself!”) 3. “Moses you are in leadership so long. Maybe you should let us lead now and just step down! Stop exalting yourself over the congregation.” I think that in the last three years we are all familiar with some claims of leadership that have at least similarity with this Torah portion. Now let us learn from the reaction of Moses to these claims of Korah and his band of rebels: “So when Moses heard it, he fell on his face; and he spoke to Korah and all his company, saying, ‘Tomorrow morning the Lord will show who is His and who is holy, and will cause him to come near to Him. That one whom He chooses He will cause to come near to Him. Do this: Take censers, Korah and all your company; put fire in them and put incense in them before the Lord tomorrow, and it shall be that the man whom the Lord chooses is the holy one. You take too much upon yourselves, you sons of Levi!’ Then Moses said to Korah, ‘Hear now, you sons of Levi: Is it a small thing to you that the God of Israel has separated you from the congregation of Israel, to bring you near to Himself, to do the work of the tabernacle of the Lord, and to stand before the congregation to serve them; and that He has brought you near to Himself, you and all your brethren, the sons of Levi, with you? And are you seeking the priesthood also?’” — Numbers 16:4-10 [NKJV] The first thing that Moses does is fall on his face. The falling of one’s face is a submission to the Lord God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. It is an act of submission as a slave before his Lord, willing to accept the master’s verdict on all things. (In the whole Bible there is no example of people falling on their back side as an act of God or the Holy Spirit. This false and fake action is pure pagan, strange, and man-made by false prophets and fake apostles. I say this as someone who has been pushed by some of the most famous, honored, and rich fakes in the Christian TV circuses.) The second thing that Moses does is take action to defend himself. Moses allowed and let the Lord prove who He, the Almighty, has chosen to lead Israel from the wilderness of Sinai to the land of Canaan that was promised to Abraham, Isaac, and Israel as an everlasting inheritance. This is a very important point. We don’t have to use the same tools to defend ourselves against our enemies that the enemy uses. We have to have full confidence as servants of God and His people that He, the Creator of all our world, knows what to do and how to defend His servants. Our recurring mistake is that we feel that we have to respond, and usually our response is with the same weak and bad tools that our enemies use. We must learn from Moses in this case to allow God to take care of our enemies in His most gracious and powerful way. We must just always remind ourselves that God knows best and God knows what is best for His children and His servants. We don’t need instant gratification and satisfaction for our pain and suffering in persecution. We need real, long-term, and final gratification and satisfaction to see our enemies put to shame by God in the most important hours of their lives! It has happened in my life more than once. And I pray for myself that God would always give me the wisdom and the patience and the stamina that I need not to be Gary Cooper in “Gunfight at the O.K. Corral”. (I confess that I don’t always succeed to hold my tongue and not to respond with more virtue than my enemies!) The third thing that we learn from Moses and from God’s response to the rebellious seed of Levi, in this case, is that God’s judgment is much more effective and even educative than anything that Moses or we as humans can do to stop the evil hands of the enemy from doing evil and demanding to destroy and damage the Kingdom of God and defame the Son of God and His Kingdom. When God defends us and our place and mission in His Kingdom – His defense is usually final. In every case, before God acts against our enemies, He gives them a chance to wise up, repent, change, ask forgiveness, and turn back from their evil ways. This is true in every case. Even in this case of Korah and his rebellious gang of 250 leaders in Israel, who by claiming “democracy and equality” aimed to destroy the anointed one of God — Moses! “Then Moses was very angry, and said to the Lord, ‘Do not respect their offering. I have not taken one donkey from them, nor have I hurt one of them.’” — Numbers 16:15 [NKJV] Here is how Moses and God gave Korah and his gang a chance to repent. This is important for us to learn from these words of God. First, Moses, guided by God Himself, says to Korah and his gang: “And Moses said to Korah, ‘Tomorrow, you and all your company be present before the Lord—you and they, as well as Aaron. Let each take his censer and put incense in it, and each of you bring his censer before the Lord, two hundred and fifty censers; both you and Aaron, each with his censer.’ So every man took his censer, put fire in it, laid incense on it, and stood at the door of the tabernacle of meeting with Moses and Aaron. And Korah gathered all the congregation against them at the door of the tabernacle of meeting. Then the glory of the Lord appeared to all the congregation.” — Numbers 16:16-19 [NKJV] Second, the following: “Moses said to the congregation of Israel and the Levites with Aaron, ‘And the Lord spoke to Moses and Aaron, saying, “Separate yourselves from among this congregation, that I may consume them in a moment.” Then they fell on their faces, and said, “O God, the God of the spirits of all flesh, shall one man sin, and You be angry with all the congregation?”’” — Numbers 16:20-22 [NKJV] The thing to do is stop the fighting and the arguments with your enemies. Separate yourselves from the enemies. Just ignore them and walk away, stop fighting, stop the bitterness. Walk away! This is divine wisdom! We don’t have to win every battle, but we have to stay faithful to the Lord and stick to His guidance of the Holy Spirit. We must learn to seek and hear the Word of the Holy Spirit of God, by staying close to God and His Word, and to be open to hear from God through advice and fellowship with other older brothers, who have years of experience walking with God. Third, stand by and watch the work of God doing what is always just and always best for His children and for the Kingdom. This is what God did to the rebellious gang of Korah, all 250 leaders and men of renown, and their families! “Now it came to pass, as he finished speaking all these words, that the ground split apart under them, and the earth opened its mouth and swallowed them up, with their households and all the men with Korah, with all their goods. So they and all those with them went down alive into the pit; the earth closed over them, and they perished from among the assembly. Then all Israel who were around them fled at their cry, for they said, ‘Lest the earth swallow us up also!’” — Numbers 16:31-34 [NKJV] Let us stop our own rebellious spirit! Let us allow the Lord to fight our battles! Let us fall on our faces before the Lord daily in submission to His will and acceptance of His choices! (This is especially true after five elections in Israel in three years.) Let us watch and see the work of the Lord in favor of His faithful children, and also His retribution towards His enemies. Often God has more patience than we do, and His timing is always perfect. God bless you all and bless your families and your ministries, and the nation of Israel worldwide!

David Stern, a dear old brother and friend. Suffering from advanced-stage Parkinson’s.
Yehuda Hochman, a dear older brother living in the Negev desert with some illness that needs healing.
Please put Marcia Shulam and me, Joseph Shulam in your daily prayers. We trust in the Almighty God His mercy is sufficient for us, but prayer by honest and sincere brothers and sisters can surely wake up God’s mercy and at least stop the deterioration of Marcia’s memory.
My dear wife is suffering from severe diabetes and rheumatoid arthritis and now also from memory loss. She has been diagnosed with dementia. Childhood-onset Diabetics are susceptible to memory problems. Marcia can’t be left alone, and I must stay home most of the days of the week, and if I leave the house someone has to come and stay with Marcia to make sure that she takes her insulin.
Next week we are travelling to the United states, please pray for our trip.
Pray for Adam R., Adam works in Netivyah as the media director and he, like Yehuda and Daniel, has been raised in Netivyah congregation in the Galilee. Adam has lost much of his hearing as a result of a virus. Pray for Adam and his family of 8 children.
Pray for Adam’s father and mother, Barry and Dalia. They too have some health problems and challenges.
Pray for Miriam and for Hannah her daughter. Miriam is a dear sister and has lost her husband recently. Pray for Daniel S. and his children. Our dear leader in the Ro’eh Israel congregation, Gary, and his health, and for his wife Melanie and their family.
Pray for Um Mahmud Abu-Eid and Jimmy Abu-Eid and all of the family. This is a dear family of old friends that needs healing and wisdom for the children and for their work.
Please pray for the Romero family who live deep in the Negev desert. It is hot there and they are far from our congregation and we miss them, but we wish them a wonderful summer.
