The Jerusalem Prayer List – April 15, 2021
by Joseph Shulam Emanuel Levi – Israel’s #1 fighter pilot – raised in Netivyah, died in action! His father is still in our fellowship. I am writing this prayer list on Memorial Day for the fallen soldiers in all the battles of Israel since the establishment of the State of Israel in 1948. There are over 23,000 men, women, soldiers and security forces. Like everything throughout Jewish history, everything is a mixture of sadness and joy, of tragedy and victory. The men and women and who have fallen for the security and protection of the state of Israel and the survival of the Jewish nation are seen as sacrifices for the homeland that was given to the Jewish nation by the almighty God and creator of the universe Himself. We have 24 hours of sadness, grief, and sorrow, and at the very end of these 24 hours the darkness and the cloud of grief and sadness lifts and the celebration of our independence breaks out from one end of this country to the other end. The music changes and the dancing in the streets starts. The celebration of the only homeland of the Jewish people on the face of this Earth and on the face of history – the Land of Israel promised to Abraham and given to Israel as an eternal possession by the Creator Himself. This promise is repeated to Abraham several times, and to Isaac, and to Jacob. There is no promise of God repeated as many times in the Bible as the promise of the Creator to the people of Israel. We are grateful and proud to live in Israel and to establish a beachhead not only for the physical restoration of Israel to the Land of Israel, but also for the return of King Messiah Yeshua. The building of the land of Israel and the restoration of the Jewish people back to the Land is a preparation of a homeland and a home for the returning Messiah, Yeshua Son of God, king of the Jews, and the savior of mankind! Stand with Israel and stand with the seed bearers of the good news of salvation in this land. The Israeli, Jewish, disciples of Yeshua. The Jewish disciples of Yeshua, natives of the national identity and the physical seed of Abraham have this burden put on their shoulders to rebuild this land both physically and spiritually and prepare a place for the return of the Messiah back to His home. You, our dear brothers and sisters, who pray for the peace of Jerusalem, and for the return of the Messiah to Zion, please also pray for us, the local Jewish disciples of Yeshua in the land of Israel. Don’t only pray but also stand with us and with Israel. Don’t only stand with Israel as a state or as a political entity but stand and act and support the local Jewish disciples in this land and help us do the work and feed the poor of Jerusalem and share the good news that Israel is not orphaned and our heavenly Father lives and our big brother, the Messiah, is coming home soon! The Torah Reading this next Shabbat is double, Tazria and Metzora. The reading starts from Leviticus 12:1 – 15:33, from the prophets we read 2 Kings 7:3-20, and from the New Testament from John 6:8-13, 8:1-17. The reading from the prophets this Shabbat is one of my favorite texts in the second book of Kings. The reason that it is my favorite text is because it deals like our Torah reading with people who are sick with leprosy. Leprosy is one of the most feared illnesses in the Bible. Leprosy was highly infectious and was incurable. People who were sick with leprosy were outcasts and feared and sent out of town to a leper colony outside the cities. I grew up in Jerusalem not far from the leper colony of Jerusalem. It was a large compound surrounded with high stone walls. The gate to the compound was like a normal small metal door to any apartment in Jerusalem. Inside there was a farm with goats and sheep, and vegetable gardens, four freshwater wells that draw the water from the ground. There were only a few doctors who also lived on the same closed compound and a few nurses. No one could go in or come out of that leprosy hospital whose name was the Hansen Hospital. Hansen’s disease is the modern name for leprosy. Our reading from 2 Kings chapter 7 is dealing with four men who were sick with leprosy. They were, like all the lepers, sick outside the walls of the city of Samaria. The city of Samaria was under military siege for six months. The Assyrian army was parked around the city of Jerusalem. No one could go out or come into that city. Of course, a siege is one of the most cruel and difficult military tactics to overcome. Because a city under siege has no incoming food, no incoming trade, no incoming or outgoing people. Starvation, hunger, and desperation take over. This is so clear from chapter 6 of 2 Kings. The case is described with two women that decided to eat their babies in order to survive. There couldn’t have been a worse situation in the city of Samaria. The city of Samaria was in deep trouble and hunger was taking over. One morning the elders of Samaria were seating at the gates of the city having a cup of a hot drink with Elisha. Elisha is well known not to be a politician. He pipes up and states the impossible: “…Hear the word of the Lord. Thus says the Lord: ‘Tomorrow about this time a seah [a measure of wheat] of fine flour shall be sold for a shekel, and two seahs of barley for a shekel, at the gate of Samaria.’” – 2 Kings 7:1b [NKJV] The elders and a general that was there guarding the gate hears Elisha speak and says, “Old man Elisha is crazy! Even if the windows of Heaven are opened, Elisha’s dream can’t happen! Even if the siege ends tomorrow morning it takes months to plow the fields and sow the seed and wait for the crop to grow and only after that, the food will be ready.” Elisha hears this officer and says to him: “In fact, you shall see it with your eyes, but you shall not eat of it.” Well, four leprous men early in the morning discuss their situation and they know that inside the city they have no hope because the hunger was just as bad or even worst. So, the only hope that these four men with leprosy had was to go and see if they could get some mercy and charity from the Assyrian enemy camp. So, here you have it – four men with leprosy start dragging their feet walking like sick lepers toward the Assyrian camp. As they get close to the camp of the enemy, they hear no sound, no one is there, the tents are empty, food is on the tables and the cooking pots in the kitchen of the officers are hot and full of food. Those four leprous men eat as much as they can. After they finish eating they start filling their pockets with the loot that the Assyrians had gathered on their march to Samaria. They take and they take and in chapter 7:9, this is what one of the leprous men said to the others: “We are not doing right. This day is a day of good news, and we remain silent. If we wait until morning light, some punishment will come upon us. Now therefore, come, let us go and tell the king’s household.” – 2 Kings 7:9b [NKJV] “The day of good news” in English is the day of “besorah” in Hebrew. In the Greek it is the day of the “evangelias” – the very same word that is translated in the New Testament with the word Gospel, not with the word good news. There are near 20 times in the so-called “Old Testament” (Hebrew bible), in the Christian translations, that the same word, “evangelia” in Greek and “besorah” in Hebrew, is always translated as “good news.” The same word is translated in the New Testament as “gospel”. The question is why the difference in the translation of the same word between the Old Testament and the New Testament? The answer to this question for me is simple. The Christian translators invented a word, “gospel”, that is not even English, in order to make a distinction between the Hebrew bible and the New Testament. The end of the story in 2 Kings 7 is that the four men sick with leprosy wake up the king and the next morning the gates of Samaria opened and the people of Samaria rush out of the city, trampling the officer that made fun of Elisha, who dies, and the people of Samaria can buy a bushel of wheat for one shekel. Just as Elisha the prophet had spoken 24 hours earlier. God’s word was fulfilled! There is so much more that we can learn from this text and from the Torah and the New Testament text in this week’s reading. I encourage you to read it all every week and allow the word of God to be a special vitamin for your soul and spirit. There is no replacement for reading the word of God. It is the most important thing that you can do for yourselves and for your souls.
Please continue to pray for Marcia. She is definitely slowed down significantly. She has very little energy and she rests most of the day. I am praying and believing in the Lord’s grace for healing Marcia and restoring her ability to function and travel with me and to be a blessing to the local congregation and community and to our brothers and friends around the world. Pray for Marcia, please!
Pray also for me. In the last few days I have been feeling weak and cold, and suffer from pain in my left leg and also my back sides. I suppose and hope that these are just an old man’s normal pains and aches. The Lord can heal and strengthen and give energy.
I am scheduled for eye surgery on May 2nd. The surgery will be on my left eye. My left eye has been blind since 1951, and now the top doctors in Jerusalem are anxious to do surgery on that eye and hope that I will be able to see from both eyes. For me this is no less than a miracle, but I need your prayers. Marcia will also have cataract surgery on one of her eyes sometimes after me in the month of May.
Please Pray for Yudah Chamero who took a flight to Columbia to see his father who is in his 80th, and has been diagnosed with stage four liver cancer. The doctors in Columbia urged Yudah to come and see his father. Please pray for Yudah’s father and pray for a miracle of healing!
Please keep praying for the family of Adam R. who is the person who does the media work in Netivyah, recording, editing our writings and videos. Dear brother Adam R.
Please prayer for a dear brother, Malcolm Thomas King from the UK. Malcolm has already been in the hospital for a week and is in critical condition.
Please consider helping Netivyah to continue caring and feeding the poor of Jerusalem and blessing the people of this city that need help to feed their children and families.
Also we need your prayers and help to continue to do the Lord's work with the youth in Jerusalem, and with the publication of the “Teaching from Zion” Magazine that goes around the world in about 4000 issues and gives people a different perspective of the life and practices of the Bible and the Early Church in Israel.
Printing several thousands of issues of the Teaching from Zion Magazine is costly. It costs several thousands of dollars to edit and do the graphics and to print and to mail. We are not charging money for every service and teaching that we do around the world. We have our M.O. from the very beginning of Netivyah in the year 1980, we want to share the Lord’s goodness free of charge. We are teaching around the world, and now we are doing it through modern technology and feeding spiritual truths and teachings. Just a few hours ago, I gave a teaching of nearly three hours to leaders from Italy. All our teachings both at home and around the world are carried out free-of-charge for those who receive them, but at high cost to Netivyah for the production and printing of these valuable teachings.
The Hamotzi program for feeding the needy of Jerusalem is ongoing and has not stopped during most of the coronavirus lockdown and quarantine. The number of needy people who come to receive food from our program has increased and overall need has increased.
Please pray for Netivyah and for the Netivyah leadership and find ways to partner and participate in the great blessing that the ministry of Netivyah is here in Israel and also around the world. Please pray and seek ways to partner and contribute financially for the Lord’s work in Netivyah Bible Instruction Ministry.
Please continue to pray for a very special kindergarten in Jerusalem “Little Hearts.” The director of this special kindergarten is one of our own from the congregation.
Keep praying for a dear sister, Livia Schnell Nothen. Please keep brother Philip Marc in your prayers. Pray for Paulo C. Pereira Braga Dias. He is the father of a dear sister in Brazil.
Pray for all those wonderful, dedicated brothers and sisters in Korea who stood with Israel and with Netivyah to revive and to not forget their first love for Israel and for Netivyah.
Danah our daughter, needs much prayer for her health and her situation. Our granddaughter Noam is a senior in high-school and working with Zoom to finish her high school. Pray for the Lord to give Noam guidance and direction for graduation from high school.
Our grandson Joseph also needs prayer to be able to get into college with proper scholarships. Please lift Barry our son and his family, Beth, and Joey our grandson to be protected and spared any contact and infection of the coronavirus. Marcia’s mother June is 91 years old and her health is failing.
Our dear sister Hadassah continues her healing and recovery from cancer. Keep her in your prayers.

Remember Tony and Louisa Tam, and our brothers and sisters at the 611 Church, and the other churches who love God and love Israel in that great city. Remember in your prayers the Cohen family in Hong Kong.
Just a word of grace before the mercy seat of the Almighty will be heard in favor of these brothers and Um Mahmud Abu-Eid and Jimmy Abu-Eid and his family, Keijo and Salme our dear brothers in Finland, Tim Tucker, Satu-Maria, Sinni Tuuli, Anne Mirjami our dear sister and all our other brothers and sisters in Finland who need our prayers, Eva H., Patty, Andrea, Julia and Victor, and Aaron Tani, and Hillel and his wife.
We continue to pray for Zhou Wenrian, Abe family, Toru San, Takeo Sensei, Daisuke Sensei, Tomoko San, Yumi and her father Pastor Ohara, George, and Pastor Isaac in Chennai, India.
I have just received a prayer request from a dear sister from Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Her father who is 70 years old and diabetic has contracted the COVID-19 virus. His name is Paulo C. Pereira Braga Dias.
Please see your prayer as casting a vote for healing before the Lord and His angels in Heaven in favor of every brother and sister that you are praying for. Just a word of grace for all of us is a refreshing spirit. Take your prayers before the mercy seat of the Almighty to be heard in favor of those that you are lifting in prayer.

Ahuva. Please pray for a dear brother who is well into his 90’s and lost his wife a couple of weeks ago. His name is Dov H. Please keep in your prayers a dear sister who attends our congregation in Jerusalem. Her name is Hadassah and she just had cancer surgery. Pray for Hadassah for a full recovery and remission from any cancer in her body.
Pray for Israel. We are going through terrible riots and violence in the streets of Jerusalem and Tel-Aviv and other places around the country. These riots are motivated by the fact that much of the populace of Israel does not understand what the government is doing in relationship to the coronavirus pandemic.
I would like a new prayer request for a dear brother Yehuda Hochman who lives in the Negev Desert. Yehuda has to receive Dialysis treatment several times per week.
I pray that the Lord will inspire and motivate brothers and sisters and ministries who can help with this to visit our webpage and do what they can to make it possible for us to double or more than double, the number of people and families that we serve.

The coronavirus is threatening the economy of the world with a great recession and depression. Some of our major supporters have already lowered the amount of their support. They have done this not only toward Netivyah, but for all the ministries that they are supporting, and they are many. I would like to first ask you to pray about your part in supporting Netivyah Bible Instruction Ministry.
Second, I would like for you who stand with us in prayer and financially to do your absolute best to stay on board with us and communicate. We realize that times will be hard for several years, but we also realize that God has chosen and blessed you for such a time as this.
Third, please pray for a new project that we are starting in Israel in partnership with the Houses for Healing ministry from Abilene, Texas.
I wish all of you, who stand with Israel and who pray for Jerusalem, the best of the Lord’s blessings and the fulfillment of all His promises to His faithful children. Those who hear God and do His will are the ones who are called wise! Those who only hear His word and don’t do it are called foolish! Let us all strive to be wise and never foolish!
