이번 안식일에 읽는 토라 포션은 파라샷 에케브(“왜냐하면”), 신명기 7:12~11:25이고, 하프타라는 이사야 49:14~51:3입니다. 신약성경에서는 누가복음 4:1-15을 읽을 것입니다.
우리는 신명기의 배경을 기억해야 합니다. 성경이 보고하는 바에 따르면, 모세는 지금 요단강가에 서서 신명기에 기록된 말씀을 말하고 있습니다. 즉, 모세는 하나님께 요단강을 건너가게 허락해 달라고 간청했다가 하나님께서 거절하신 후에, 지금 그와 이스라엘 자신이 현 시점에 이르게 된 상황을 회고하기 시작하고 있는 것입니다. 출애굽하여 종살이에서 해방된 이스라엘 민족은 모든 것에 불평하기를 그치지 않았음을 기억하시기 바랍니다. 그들은 마실 물이 없다고 불평했고, 빵이 없다고, 고기가 없다고, 수박, 오이, 양파가 없다고 불평했고, 이러저러한 것들을 불평했습니다! 지금 모세는 이러한 이스라엘 자손에게 다음과 같이 가르치고 있습니다: “너희가 이 모든 법도를 듣고 지켜 행하면 네 하나님 여호와께서 네 조상들에게 맹세하신 언약을 지켜 네게 인애를 베푸실 것이라 곧 너를 사랑하시고 복을 주사 너를 번성하게 하시되 네게 주리라고 네 조상들에게 맹세하신 땅에서 네 소생에게 은혜를 베푸시며 네 토지 소산과 곡식과 포도주와 기름을 풍성하게 하시고 네 소와 양을 번식하게 하시리니 네가 복을 받음이 만민보다 훨씬 더하여 너희 중의 남녀와 너희의 짐승의 암수에 생육하지 못함이 없을 것이며 여호와께서 또 모든 질병을 네게서 멀리 하사 너희가 아는 애굽의 악질에 걸리지 않게 하시고 너를 미워하는 모든 자에게 걸리게 하실 것이라 네 하나님 여호와께서 네게 넘겨주신 모든 민족을 네 눈이 긍휼히 여기지 말고 진멸하며 그들의 신을 섬기지 말라 그것이 네게 올무가 되리라.” — 신명기 7:12-16 모세는 지금 정죄하고 있는 것이 아니라 격려하고 있음을 기억하시기 바랍니다. 그는 지금 하나님께서 아브라함과 이삭과 야곱에게 영원한 기업으로 약속하신 땅에 들어가려고 하는 이스라엘 자손에게 말하고 있는 것입니다. 하나님께서는 그분의 약속에 신실하실 것이며 이것은 자비의 언약입니다! 와! 어떻게 그렇게 많은 기독교 교단이 토라에는 자비가 없다는 그릇되고 거짓된 생각을 하고 있는 것일까요? 이제 여러분은 모세가 지금, 하나님께서 우리 조상에게 맹세하신 언약과 자비를 지키실 것이다; 하나님께서 이스라엘 백성을 사랑하시고 복 주시고 번성케 하실 것이다; 하나님께서 네 자손과 네 땅의 소산과 네 곡식과 포도주와 기름에 복 주시고, 네 소와 양을 번식시키시고, 너희를 모든 민족보다 더 복 주실 것이다; 아프지 않을 것이며 애굽의 질병이 이스라엘 백성을 괴롭히지 않을 것이라는 약속을 포함하여 하나님께서 이스라엘에 약속하신 그러한 놀라운 약속들을 말하고 있음을 아실 것입니다. 이제 저는 여러분께 출애굽 이야기의 시작과 하나님의 축복의 약속과 필요할 경우 심판의 약속을 다시 상기시켜 드리겠습니다. 이스라엘 자손은 애굽에 있었는데요, 고센 땅, 이른 바 애굽에서 제일 좋은 지역에서 살면서 거의 200년 동안은 부와 형통을 누렸습니다. 그러다가 애굽의 정치 상황이 바뀌어 요셉이 애굽에 기여한 바를 모르는 새로운 계보의 바로가 권력을 잡았는데 그는 이스라엘 사람들이 돌이켜 애굽에 적대 세력이 될까 봐 두려워했습니다. 바로가 그렇게 두려워한 이유는 불합리한 것이 아니었습니다. 이스라엘 사람들은 지금도 그렇지만 과거에도 다른 민족과 섞이지 않고 구별된 민족이었습니다. 우리는 애굽에서부터 가나안 땅에서도, 에스더서에서도, 지금 우리 시대에 이르기까지 이스라엘의 역사에서 이것을 볼 수 있습니다. 그들은 하나님께 구원해 주시도록 부르짖었고 하나님께서는 이스라엘을 애굽의 종살이에서 구원하여 40년 동안 광야 신병훈련소를 거쳐 아브라함과 이삭과 야곱에게 약속된 가나안 땅까지 데려가도록 모세를 탄생에서부터 죽음까지 준비해주셨습니다! 이 40년 신병훈련소 기간은 노예 민족을 높은 성벽으로 요새화되고 군사력을 가진 도시들을 정복하러 출정하는 군사 조직으로 리모델링하는 기간이었습니다. 우리는 여호수아서와 사사기에서 이스라엘이 크레타섬에서 온 블레셋, 아나톨리아(터키)에서 온 헷 족속, 오늘날 아르메니아와 아제르바이잔 지역에서 가나안으로 이주해 온 카라키샤 족속과 동일시되는 기르가스 족속 등 고대의 강한 민족을 상대로 벌인 전쟁과 정복을 볼 수 있습니다. 하나님께서는 언제나 선(善)이든 선이 아니든 이스라엘과 온 세계에 약속하신 그분의 약속을 지키십니다. 가장 잘 보여주는 한 예가 출애굽 여정과 가나안 땅 정복입니다. 지금 우리는 하나님께서 이스라엘에 약속하신 약속을 지키시는 또 다른 시절에 살고 있습니다. 우리는 시온의 물리적 영적 회복을 목격하며 경험하고 있습니다. 우리는 폐허가 재건되고, 묻혀있던 옛 도시들이 100여개 국가, 지구라고 불리는 이 별의 거의 모든 구석에서부터 돌아온 유대인들로 가득 차고 있는 그런 과정의 한 부분에 있습니다. 신명기는 하나님의 신실함으로 시작해서 이스라엘 자손을 애굽의 종살이에서 데리고 나와 젖과 꿀이 흐르는 약속의 땅으로 데려가기 위해 자기 생애 중 80년을 헌신한 이 사람 모세에게 하나님께서 성경에서 가장 가혹한 말로 말씀하시는 것으로 끝나는 책입니다! 우리 모두가 하나님의 말씀에서 배워야 하는 교훈은 아주 간단하고 아주 진실이며 아주 엄격하며 우리에게 유익이 되는 것입니다. 우리가 불순종하면 무섭고 고통스럽게 하나님으로부터 소외되는 것도 하나님의 신실하심입니다. 그 결과는 저희 민족의 역사가 하나님께서 그분의 약속을 지키심을 보여주는 생생한 본보기입니다. 저는 사람과 이스라엘 민족이 온 우주의 창조주와 맺을 수 있는 경이로운 관계와 축복과 형통에 초점을 맞추겠습니다. 사람이 우리 우주 만물의 창조주 하나님을 아빠(“아버지”)라고 부를 수 있는 특권! 사람이 우리, 이 세상 사람들을 너무 사랑하여 그분의 독생자 예슈아를 보내어 우리를 구원하고 우리 죄를 사해 주신 바로 그 창조주와, 아버지와 자녀의 관계가 될 수 있는 바로 그 특권 말입니다. 우리는 이스라엘을 애굽의 종살이에서 데리고 나오신 그 하나님께서 디아스포라 이스라엘을 다시 고토로 데려오시겠다 약속하신 바로 그 하나님이시라는 것을 기억해야 합니다. 저희 이스라엘 민족이 의학, 과학, 농업, 군사 장비, 기타 등등 분야에서 회복되는 과정 중에 있다는 이 사실은 놀라운 특종 뉴스, 복음입니다. 이스라엘은 21세기에 국제 특허 최다 등록 국가 20위 안에 드는 신생 국가입니다. 저희는 가장 작은 나라로서 중국, 미국, 인도 등 거대국가 사이에서 그 순위에 든 나라이기도 합니다. 하나님께서는 신실하시며 그 이야기는 아직 끝나지 않았습니다. 그 이야기는 아직도 진행 중이며 끝나려면 아직도 멀었습니다. 그 때문에 우리는 믿음을 가지고 하나님의 약속을 의뢰하며 무엇보다 먼저 그분의 명령을 지키고 사람의 전통과 사람이 만든 교훈과 명령은 나중에 지키기를 배워야 합니다. 하나님께서는 그분의 약속을 지키십니다. 이스라엘 땅 유대 국가에 있는 저희는 직접 하나님의 신실하심과 공의를 겪으며 목격하고 있습니다. 열방 가운데서 돌아온 유대인이며 예슈아의 제자들인 저희는 우리의 수고가 헛되지 않으며 하나님께서 약속하신 모든 것이 이루어진다는 것을 알고 파수하며 기도해야 합니다. 예슈아께서는 시온으로 다시 돌아오시며, 그 날에 온 세계가 자복하며 자비를 구할 것입니다. 이 유명한 찬송가는 모세가 요단강둑에서 이스라엘에 전한 메시지를 담고 있습니다: 주의 약속하신 말씀 위에서 영원토록 주를 찬송하리라

The Jerusalem Prayer List – August 19, 2022

This Shabbat the reading is Parashat Eikev (“because”), Deuteronomy 7:12–11:25, and the haftarah is Isaiah 49:14 – 51:3. From the New Testament we will be reading from Luke 4:1-15.
We must remember the context of the book of Deuteronomy. According to the biblical report, Moses is standing on the edge of the Jordan River and speaking the words that are recorded in the book of Deuteronomy. So, after begging God to allow him to cross the Jordan River, and God refused, Moses now is beginning to review the circumstances that have brought him and the children of Israel to this point. Please remember that the nation of Israel that left Egypt as liberated slaves didn’t stop complaining about just about everything. They complained about not having good water to drink, and they complained about not having bread, and not having meat, and not having watermelons, cucumbers, onions, and more and more complaining! Now Moses is giving the whole lot of those Israelites the following introduction: “Then it shall come to pass, because you listen to these judgments, and keep and do them, that the Lord your God will keep with you the covenant and the mercy which He swore to your fathers. And He will love you and bless you and multiply you; He will also bless the fruit of your womb and the fruit of your land, your grain and your new wine and your oil, the increase of your cattle and the offspring of your flock, in the land of which He swore to your fathers to give you. You shall be blessed above all peoples; there shall not be a male or female barren among you or among your livestock. And the Lord will take away from you all sickness and will afflict you with none of the terrible diseases of Egypt which you have known but will lay them on all those who hate you. Also you shall destroy all the peoples whom the Lord your God delivers over to you; your eye shall have no pity on them; nor shall you serve their gods, for that will be a snare to you.” — Deuteronomy 7:12-16 Please note that Moses is not condemning but encouraging. He is giving these Israelites who are about to enter the land that God promised to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, as an everlasting inheritance. God is going to be faithful to His promises and it is a covenant of mercy! Wow! How is it that so many denominational Christians have the wrong and false idea that the Torah has no mercy? Now, you see that Moses says that God is going to keep the covenant and the mercy which He swore to our fathers. God will love and bless and multiply the people of Israel. God will bless your children and the fruit of your land, your grain, wine, oil, and increase the cattle, and your flock, and bless you above all people. Such wonderful promises that God promised Israel, including a deliverance from sickness and none of the diseases of Egypt will plague the people of Israel. Let me take you back to the beginning of the Exodus story and show you God’s faithfulness in the promises of the blessings, and also when needed, in the promises of the judgments. The children of Israel were in Egypt and they lived approximately 200 years in the land of Goshen, as it is said, they lived in the best part of Egypt and enjoyed wealth and numerical growth. The political situation in Egypt changed and a new line of Pharaohs that didn’t know Joseph’s contribution to Egypt came into power and feared the Israelites would turn against Egypt. The reason for that fear of Pharaoh is not unreasonable. The Israelites are and were in the past history a nation set apart, not mixing with other nations. We see this throughout Israel’s history, from Egypt to the land of Canaan, to the book of Esther, and all the way to our own time. They cried to God for deliverance and God organized Moses from birth to death to deliver Israel out of slavery in Egypt and bring them after 40 years of boot camp in the wilderness to the land promised to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, the land of Canaan! These 40 years of boot camp were a remodeling of the nation of slaves into a powerful militant organization that set out to conquer a land of fortified cities with high walls and military power. We have the book of Joshua and the book of Judges that describe the battles and conquests of Israel against ancient and powerful people: the Philistines from Crete, and the Hittites from Anatolia (Turkey), and the Girgashites who are identified with Qaraqisha tribes that came to Canaan from the area of Armenia and Azerbaijan of today. God is always keeping His promises to Israel and to the world, for the good and for the not-so-good. One of the best examples is the journey of the Exodus and the conquest of the land of Canaan. Now we are living in another season of God keeping His promises to Israel. We are witnesses and experiencing the restoration of Zion, physically and spiritually. We are a part of the rebuilding of the waste places, the buried cities of the past are being filled with Jews from over 100 different countries, from almost every corner of the star called Earth. The book of Deuteronomy is a book that starts with God’s faithfulness and ends with the horrible statement of God to Moses that says some of the hardest words in the Bible to a man who has dedicated 80 years of his life to take the children of Israel out of Egyptian slavery into the promised land of milk and honey! The lesson that we all must learn from God’s word is very simple and very true and very strict — for our good. And if we are disobedient, it is also faithful to deliver the horrifying and painful alienation from God and the consequences of which our national history is a living example of. Of a God who keeps His promises. Let me concentrate on the prosperity and blessing and wonderful relationship between man and nation of Israel with the Creator of our universe. The privilege of all man to call God, the Creator of all things in our world, Abba (“Father”)! The very privilege and possibility for humans to have a relationship of Father and sons and daughters with the Creator who so loved us, the peoples of the world, that He sent His only begotten Son, Yeshua, to save us and forgive us from our sins. We must remember that the same God who took Israel out of Egyptian slavery is the God who has promised to bring the diaspora of Israel back home. It is a shocking and outstanding news, good news, that we the nation of Israel are in the process of restoration, in the fields of medicine, science, agriculture, military equipment, and more. Israel is the startup nation that is among the top 20 countries who have registered international patents in the 21st century. We are also the smallest nation among the great gigantic nations like China, and the United States, and India… God is faithful and the story is not over, the process is active now and far from finished. This is why we must learn to have faith and trust God’s promises and keep His commandments, first and foremost, and only later honor human traditions and man-made precepts and commandments. God keeps His promises and we in the land of Israel and in the Jewish nation are personally living and witnessing God’s faithfulness, and righteousness. And we the Jewish people and the disciples of Yeshua from among the nations must know and watch and pray and do right because we know that our labor is not in vain and all that God promised is going to be fulfilled. Yeshua is coming back to Zion, and on that day the world will confess and beg for mercy. The words of this famous Christian Song are speaking the message that Moses is bringing to Israel on the banks of the Jordan River: Standing on the promises of Christ my King, Thro’ eternal ages let his praises ring; Glory in the highest, I will shout and sing, Standing on the promises of God. Standing, standing, Standing on the promises of God my Savior; Standing, standing, I’m standing on the promises of God. Standing on the promises that cannot fail, When the howling storms of doubt and fear assail, By the living word of God, I shall prevail, Standing on the promises of God. Standing, standing, Standing on the promises of God my Savior; Standing, standing, I’m standing on the promises of God. Standing on the promises of Christ the Lord, Bound to him eternally by love’s strong cord, Overcoming daily with the Spirit’s Sword, Standing on the promises of God. Standing, standing, Standing on the promises of God my Savior; Standing, standing, I’m standing on the promises of God. Standing on the promises I cannot fall, List’ning ev’ry moment to the Spirit’s call, Resting in my Savior as my all in all, Standing on the promises of God. Pray for Yuri Nitchaiev, who is in the hospital, and for Haddass, who is after surgery.
Ilana Ahijervie, a dear sister who is 98 years old and suffering from memory problems.
Lea Korky, a dear sister who is 89 years old and served for many years as a nurse in the Sha’arei Zedek Hospital in Jerusalem.
Sarit, a sister born in Jerusalem, over 87 years old, lives alone. Has no close family, and suffers from several old-age illnesses.
David Stern, a dear old brother, and friend. Suffering from advanced stages of Parkinson’s.
Yehuda Hochman, is a dear older brother living in the Negev desert with some illness that needs healing.
Please put Marcia Shulam and me, Joseph Shulam in your daily prayers. We trust in the Almighty God His mercy is sufficient for us, but prayer by honest and sincere brothers and sisters can surely wake up God’s mercy and at least stop the deterioration of Marcia’s memory.
My dear wife is suffering from severe diabetes and rheumatoid arthritis and now also from memory loss. She was diagnosed with dementia. Childhood-onset Diabetics are susceptible to memory problems. Marcia can’t be left alone, and I must stay home most of the days of the week, and if I leave the house someone has to come and stay with Marcia to make sure that she takes her insulin.
Pray for Adam R., Adam works in Netivyah as the media director and he, like Yehuda and Daniel, has been raised in Netivyah congregation in the Galilee. Adam has lost much of his hearing as a result of a virus. Pray for Adam and his family of 8 children.
Pray for Adam’s father and mother, Barry and Dalia. They too have some health problems and challenges.
Pray for Miriam and for Hannah, her daughter. Miriam is a dear sister and has lost her husband recently. Pray for Daniel S. and his children. Our dear leader in the Ro’eh Israel congregation, Gary, and his health, and for his wife Melanie and their family.
Pray for Um Mahmud Abu-Eid and Jimmy Abu-Eid and all of the family. This is a dear family of old friends that needs healing and wisdom for the children and for their work.
Please pray for the Romero family who live deep in the Negev desert. It is hot there and they are far from our congregation, we miss them, but we wish them a wonderful summer.
Pray for brothers and sisters in the U.K.
We bless our dear sister Celestine with health and blessings from Heaven for her life and her family. We pray for the Lord to be her comfort and provide sister Celestine all her physical and her spiritual and her social needs with His grace.
Pray for our dear brother Reuven from Netivyah who is living and working in London now and pray for his wife. Pray that they both are protected and blessed and that Reuven’s wife finds a good job in London.
Pray for Deborah Isaiah. I pray for the Lord to find Deborah Isaiah and lead her to a blessed life and family and a solution to her problems.

Please mention the name Ray Chen and ask God to show this man the grace of God and God’s powerful healing of body and soul and restoration of faith and life of holiness and sanctity.

Pray for Paulo C. Pereira Braga Dias. He is the father of a dear sister in Brazil.
Pray for a dear young man from Curitiba, Brazil, who is seriously needing our prayers for sanity and mental health.
Pray for our dear brother Marcelo G. and his family. Marcelo is a pioneer in the establishing the Teaching from Zion ministry in Brazil and the Har Zion Congregation in Belo-Horizonte.
Please pray for Marcelo and Matheus on their trip to Portugal for ministry, for protection on the travel and success in the mission for Portugal.
Pray for Marcelo’s father who is up in the years. Pray for our brothers in the Har Zion congregation, the widow of Pastor George, and for those who are ill and need healing.
Pray for Livia Schnell Nothen, she has some issues with her physical health and a growth in her adrenal gland. And other health issues.
Guilherme Antonio Nothen Becker, who is suffering from back problems. Aratuza de Oliveira his wife. Pray for this 3-year-old child that has serious problems with his eyes and ask the Lord to give healing to his eyes. This child’s name is Caique de Oliveira Becker.
Pray for Bernardo Antonio Nothen Becker. Bernardo is addicted to gambling and playing poker. This caused deep sorrow to his family.
Fernanda Nothen Becker, our dear sister has problems with her job that cause her pressure and challenges. Pray for the social situation in Fernanda’s work to turn and her suffering to turn into joy and friendship.
A 70-year-old Pastor Paulo C. Pereira Braga Dias, suffering from diabetes.

In India, Pastor Isaac, from Chennai, needs our prayers. Pastor Isaac is suffering from kidney problems and has to have dialysis several times per week.
Tony Tam and his wife Luisa and son Marco need special prayer for their situation.

Please pray for Ruby K. from Hong Kong. Ruby has gone through a very complicated surgery for multiple cancers in her body. The surgery was very long, and Ruby is back home now recovering. Please lift Ruby K. and ask the Lord to heal and deliver Ruby from Hong Kong

Please pray for my family in the United States: Barry my son and his wife Beth, and for Joey my grandson. Pray for their divine protection and health.
Pray for Danah my daughter that has several health issues. I pray for Danah’s protection from the Coronavirus and from any other health issue. I pray for the Lord to give Danah wisdom and peace and calm in life and in her work.
Pray for Noaam my granddaughter. She is working two jobs now and needs good health and wisdom to make the right choices and plans for life, education, immigration to Israel, and just general protection from all harm.
Pray for David Young the preacher in Murfreesboro, Tennessee, who is back to preaching after recovering from medical issues. Please keep David in your prayers.
Pray for Ruby Little, our dear and faithful sister who has cancer and has stopped receiving medical treatment for the cancer that she has. Please pray for Ruby that the Lord will heal and strengthen her and provide for all her needs both medically and socially.
Aaron Hook, Nancy Hook’s oldest son, needs our prayers for wisdom and healing from past issues of life. Pray for Don, Aaron’s father and Nancy’s husband. Don and Nancy are now in the USA. Keep Nancy in your prayers.
Lift for blessing and healing Jonathan B. and his wife Aviva and their new baby, his mother, and his brother Daniel. Pray for these very important men of God: Rabbi Salt, his family, and Rabbi Hasselblad. They are both older and need protection and blessings.
Pray a blessing for a dear sister Angela Isby and her situation. Pray for Tiz H. and Lion H., and for Nissim and Ilana Avramov.
Pray for three women of God in Canada who need healing, Lynda, Sandy and Joanne.
I pray that the Lord will inspire and motivate brothers and sisters and ministries who can help with this to visit here do what they can to make it possible for us to double or more than double, the number of people and families that we serve.
