예루살렘 기도 목록 – 2023년 3월 17일

이번 주 안식일에 전 세계 모든 회당에서 읽는 토라 포션은 “바얔헬-페쿠데이”라고 합니다. 여러분께서 이번 안식일 토라 포션의 이름에서 아실 수 있듯이, 토라 포션이 두 개입니다. “바얔헬”은 출애굽기 35:1~38:25입니다. “페쿠데이”는 출애굽기 끝인 40:38까지 읽습니다. 그러니까 이번 안식일에 우리는 출애굽기 읽기를 끝냅니다. 선지서에서 읽는 부분은 열왕기상 7:51~8:21이고, 신약성경에서는 요한복음 14:12-31을 읽을 것입니다.

토라에서 흥미로운 것은 토라가 몇 장에 걸쳐 광야에서 짓고 40년 동안 옮겨 다니다가 실로에 안착했다가, 거기에서 다윗이 마침내 예루살렘으로 가져온 성막을 다루는가입니다.

토라가 성막에 대해 쓴 것은 총 마흔다섯 장입니다. 출애굽기는 열세 장이 성막에 할애되었고, 레위기는 열여덟 장, 민수기는 열세 장, 신명기는 두 장이 성막에 할애되었습니다.

제가 이 것을 알게 되었을 때, 저는 사실 충격을 받았습니다. 충격적이었던 이유는 토라에서 성막을 논하는 대부분이 기구와 도구와 재료 목록이기 때문입니다. 기술적 문제는 이 자료의 큰 비중을 차지하지 않습니다.

저의 의문은 왜 성령님께서 우리에게 일견 미래 세대에는 별로 유용해 보이지 않고 예루살렘 성전으로 바뀔, 당연히 예루살렘 성전 파괴 이후 세대에는 훨씬 더 의미가 적은 성막에 대해 그렇게 많은 본문과 정보를 주었는가입니다.

저는 생각하고 생각하며 기도로 주님께 왜 토라가 그렇게 많은 장에 걸쳐 아론과 그의 아들들과 레위인들이 광야에서 지은 이 장막을 다루고 있는지 여쭈었습니다. 토라가 이렇게 많은 분량을 할애해 우리에게 성막에 대해 알려주는 이유는 아마 여러 가지일 것입니다.

그러나 제가 보기에 그 이유는 이스라엘 백성이 진영 가운데 주님의 임재가 있었다는 것과, 그들이 저 멀리 동떨어진 하늘이 아닌, 같은 고도의, 같은 진영 안에 하나님의 임재가 거하심을 계속 상기시키는 것에 지분이 있고 동역했음을 알게 하고 이해시키기 위한 것인 것 같습니다.

이 독특한 장막은 이스라엘 백성이 어떻게 하나님께 나아가야 하는지, 즉 거룩함으로, 순결함으로, 경외함으로 나아감에 대한 청사진 역할을 했습니다. 성막 안의 기구와 상징적 요소들은 이스라엘 진영 가운데 주님의 임재를 앙양하는 메시지를 소통하는 것이었습니다. 낮에는 구름기둥, 밤에는 불기둥이 있었던 것은 하나님께서 이스라엘과 함께 계심을 확신시키는 것이었습니다.

그러나 가장 중요한 면은 이스라엘 진영의 모든 가구의 장정이 그의 반 세겔이 성막이 계속 서 있게 하는 기초의 일부분이라는 것을 알았고, 모든 여인이 그녀의 금귀고리와 금팔찌가 밤낮 켜는 메노라(등대) 속에 들어 있다는 것을 알았다는 사실입니다.

사람들이 하나님과 동역자가 되고 각 사람이 “하나님께서 거하시는 곳”에 물리적으로 일부분의 지분이 있다는 개념은 소유의식과 소속의식와 우주의 창조주이신 주 하나님과의 동역의식에 있어서 매우 중요한 요소입니다.

저는 이 때문에 토라가 아주 많은 분량을 할애하여 주님의 성막의 도구와 기구와 재료에 대해 말하고 반복하여 나열하고 있다고 생각합니다. 이 성막은 밤낮으로 그들을 따르며, 하나님의 임재가 계속 이스라엘 진영 가운데 있음을 밤낮으로 알려줍니다.

시내광야의 성막과 대비되는 것은 솔로몬이 예루살렘에 건축한 성전입니다.

“솔로몬이 기름 부음을 받고 그의 아버지를 이어 왕이 되었다 함을 두로 왕 히람이 듣고 그의 신하들을 솔로몬에게 보냈으니 이는 히람이 평생에 다윗을 사랑하였음이라 이에 솔로몬이 히람에게 사람을 보내어 이르되 당신도 알거니와 내 아버지 다윗이 사방의 전쟁으로 말미암아 그의 하나님 여호와의 이름을 위하여 성전을 건축하지 못하고 여호와께서 그의 원수들을 그의 발바닥 밑에 두시기를 기다렸나이다 이제 내 하나님 여호와께서 내게 사방의 태평을 주시매 원수도 없고 재앙도 없도다 여호와께서 내 아버지 다윗에게 하신 말씀에 내가 너를 이어 네 자리에 오르게 할 네 아들 그가 내 이름을 위하여 성전을 건축하리라 하신 대로 내가 내 하나님 여호와의 이름을 위하여 성전을 건축하려 하오니 당신은 명령을 내려 나를 위하여 레바논에서 백향목을 베어내게 하소서 내 종과 당신의 종이 함께 할 것이요 또 내가 당신의 모든 말씀대로 당신의 종의 삯을 당신에게 드리리이다 당신도 알거니와 우리 중에는 시돈 사람처럼 벌목을 잘하는 자가 없나이다 히람이 솔로몬의 말을 듣고 크게 기뻐하여 이르되 오늘 여호와를 찬양할지로다 그가 다윗에게 지혜로운 아들을 주사 그 많은 백성을 다스리게 하셨도다 하고 이에 솔로몬에게 사람을 보내어 이르되 당신이 사람을 보내어 하신 말씀을 내가 들었거니와 내 백향목 재목과 잣나무 재목에 대하여는 당신이 바라시는 대로 할지라 내 종이 레바논에서 바다로 운반하겠고 내가 그것을 바다에서 뗏목으로 엮어 당신이 지정하는 곳으로 보내고 거기서 그것을 풀리니 당신은 받으시고 내 원을 이루어 나의 궁정을 위하여 음식물을 주소서 하고 솔로몬의 모든 원대로 백향목 재목과 잣나무 재목을 주매” (열왕기상 5:1–10)

예루살렘 성전은 두로 왕 히람이 보낸 외국인 근로자 5만 명에 의해 지어졌습니다. 건축자재는 레바논에서 가져왔고, 성전의 설계는 전형적인 이교 신전의 건축설계였습니다. 예루살렘 성전 건축에는 이스라엘 백성이 자원하여 참여하지 않았습니다. 이 때문에 성전은 제사장 가문 레위인들의 영역이 된 것입니다.

성막은 이스라엘 진영 가운데 있으면서 이스라엘 백성에게 하나님의 임재가 그들과 함께 있음을 계속 상기시켰습니다. 성막은 그들에게 그들이 주님의 집에 지분이 있다는 것을 상기시키는 것이었습니다! 이러한 요소는 회당에도 교회에도 아주 중요한 것입니다. 특별히 정통 유대교 회당에서는 이 요소가 아직도 적용되고 있습니다.

회당 건축비는 보통 그 회당의 회원들이 내고, 그 회당 건축에 헌금한 사람들의 이름은 그 회당 건물 입구에서 그리 멀지 않은 어딘가에 기재됩니다. 그 회당의 회원들의 이름이 의자에 적혀 있어서 안식일과 특별히 회당이 만석이 되는 큰 절기에 그 자리는 그들의 자리가 됩니다.

가장 중요하고 아주 의미심장한 것은 예루살렘 성전 봉헌 때 솔로몬의 기도입니다. 이것은 예루살렘 성전과 유대교를 여타 이교 신전과 이교 신과 구분 짓는 것입니다.

그렇습니다, 세계적으로 거대한 신전이 몇 개 있는데요, 바벨론과 애굽(이집트)에 거대 신전이 좀 있었습니다. 이집트 룩소르에는 축구장 네 개를 합친 것만큼 큰 신전이 하나 있었습니다. 이집트에 그 신전의 일부가 아직도 남아 있습니다.

다음은 솔로몬이 예루살렘 성전을 봉헌할 때 드린 기도입니다:

“솔로몬이 여호와의 제단 앞에서 이스라엘의 온 회중과 마주서서 하늘을 향하여 손을 펴고 이르되 이스라엘의 하나님 여호와여 위로 하늘과 아래로 땅에 주와 같은 신이 없나이다 주께서는 온 마음으로 주의 앞에서 행하는 종들에게 언약을 지키시고 은혜를 베푸시나이다 주께서 주의 종 내 아버지 다윗에게 하신 말씀을 지키사 주의 입으로 말씀하신 것을 손으로 이루심이 오늘과 같으니이다 이스라엘의 하나님 여호와여 주께서 주의 종 내 아버지 다윗에게 말씀하시기를 네 자손이 자기 길을 삼가서 네가 내 앞에서 행한 것 같이 내 앞에서 행하기만 하면 네게서 나서 이스라엘의 왕위에 앉을 사람이 내 앞에서 끊어지지 아니하리라 하셨사오니 이제 다윗을 위하여 그 하신 말씀을 지키시옵소서 그런즉 이스라엘의 하나님이여 원하건대 주는 주의 종 내 아버지 다윗에게 하신 말씀이 확실하게 하옵소서 하나님이 참으로 땅에 거하시리이까 하늘과 하늘들의 하늘이라도 주를 용납하지 못하겠거든 하물며 내가 건축한 이 성전이오리이까 그러나 내 하나님 여호와여 주의 종의 기도와 간구를 돌아보시며 이 종이 오늘 주 앞에서 부르짖음과 비는 기도를 들으시옵소서 주께서 전에 말씀하시기를 내 이름이 거기 있으리라 하신 곳 이 성전을 향하여 주의 눈이 주야로 보시오며 주의 종이 이 곳을 향하여 비는 기도를 들으시옵소서 주의 종과 주의 백성 이스라엘이 이 곳을 향하여 기도할 때에 주는 그 간구함을 들으시되 주께서 계신 곳 하늘에서 들으시고 들으시사 사하여 주옵소서 만일 어떤 사람이 그 이웃에게 범죄함으로 맹세시킴을 받고 그가 와서 이 성전에 있는 주의 제단 앞에서 맹세하거든 주는 하늘에서 들으시고 행하시되 주의 종들을 심판하사 악한 자의 죄를 정하여 그 행위대로 그 머리에 돌리시고 의로운 자를 의롭다 하사 그의 의로운 바대로 갚으시옵소서.” (열왕기상 8:22–32)

사도 바울도 아크로폴리스의 거대한 이교 신전 건물 바로 아래 아레오파구스에서 아덴(아테네)의 고등법원 판사들에게 말할 때 아주 비슷한 말을 했습니다.

“우주와 그 가운데 있는 만물을 지으신 하나님께서는 천지의 주재시니 손으로 지은 전에 계시지 아니하시고 또 무엇이 부족한 것처럼 사람의 손으로 섬김을 받으시는 것이 아니니 이는 만민에게 생명과 호흡과 만물을 친히 주시는 이심이라.” (사도행전 17:24–25)

이것은 오늘날 우리에게, 특히 이스라엘 땅에, 그것도 예루살렘에 저희 소유의 건물을 가지는 복을 받은 저희에게 중요합니다. 저희 건물들은 큰 축복이며 하나님을 섬기고 특히 예루살렘이나 하이파나 텔아비브나 이스라엘 땅의 다른 모든 곳의 거주민들을 섬기는 데에도 매우 중요한 도구입니다. 우리의 건물들은 신성하지 않습니다. 어떤 회당이나 교회 건물도 신성하지 않습니다.

예루살렘에는 성묘교회가 있고 솔로몬과 헤롯대왕의 성전이 있던 자리에 오마르 모스크가 있는데요, 이것들은 네팔이나 태국이나 인도에 있는 신전들처럼 “신성”하게 여겨집니다.

우리는 성전이 하나님의 집이 아니라, 하나님의 백성이 섬기고, 그들이 하는 일이 하나님께 경배하러 오는 사람들에게 하나님을 보여주는 것이라고 주관적으로 생각하는 집이라는 것을 기억해야 합니다.

저는 네티비야에 있는 저희가 저희 건물을 사무실 용도에서부터, 예루살렘시 복지국과 협력하여 매주 7일 동안 거의 1000 영혼을 먹이는 하모찌 식료품 배급 프로그램을 위한 용도에 이르기까지 폭넓게 사용하고 있어서 기쁩니다.

저는 또 하나님으로부터의 아주 큰 선물인 저희 건물을, 예루살렘에 있는 일부 기독교 사역 단체와는 달리, 다른 사역들과, 그것도 무료로, 공유하여 사용하고 있어서 기쁩니다.

저는 예루살렘에 있는 모든 메시아의 몸에 사회복지 활동이 있어서 기쁩니다. 그러나 제가 주님께 가장 감사드리는 것은 저희에게 쓸모 있는 장소가 있는 것, 특히 하나님께 예배드리고 기도하고 하나님의 말씀을 공부하는 데 쓰이는 장소, 안식일마다 그리고 매일 이스라엘의 주 하나님과 예슈아의 이름을 송축하고 기릴 수 있는 곳이 있는 것입니다.

하나님께서 사람의 손으로 지은 건물에 거하시지 않는 이유는 사도 바울이 다음과 같이 아주 잘 말한 바와 같습니다:

“우주와 그 가운데 있는 만물을 지으신 하나님께서는 천지의 주재시니 손으로 지은 전에 계시지 아니하시고 또 무엇이 부족한 것처럼 사람의 손으로 섬김을 받으시는 것이 아니니 이는 만민에게 생명과 호흡과 만물을 친히 주시는 이심이라.”(사도행전 17:24-25)

저는 이 땅의 모든 메시아의 몸과 아직 자기 소유의 건물이 없는 유대인 회중(교회)들이 자기 소유의 건물을 가지게 되고 그들의 건물을 이 땅의 예슈아의 제자들에게 축복이 되는 장소로, 또한 예슈아의 제자들뿐만 아니라, 이스라엘 땅의 일반 유대인과 아랍인 지역사회와 예슈아의 유대인 제자들의 지붕 아래 온 손님 누구에게든 축복이 되는 장소로 사용하기를 축복하고 싶습니다.

린제이 박사님은 한 번도 주저하지 않고 수 년 동안 저희가 건물을 쓸 수 있도록 지지해 주었습니다. 그렇습니다, 하나님께서는 사람의 손으로 지은 건물에 거하시지 않습니다. 땅은 그분의 발등상이며 하늘과 하늘들의 하늘도 그분을 수용할 수 없기 때문입니다. 그러나 우리의 마음, 사람의 마음은 성령의 할례를 받은 후, 우리가 하나님을 우리 마음에 들어오시도록 한다면, 하나님을 수용할 수 있습니다. 하나님께서 우리 마음에 심어진 그분의 토라로 우리를 깨끗하게 하시고 인도하시고 이끌어가실 것입니다.

The Jerusalem Prayer List – March 17, 2023

This week Shabbat reading in all the synagogues around the world is called Vayakhel-Pikudei. As you can see from the name of this Shabbat’s reading,

it is a double portion. Vayakhel is read from Exodus 35:1, until Exodus 38:25. The Pikudei portion is read all the way to Exodus 40:38, the end of the book of Exodus. So, this Shabbat we will be ending the reading of the book of Exodus. The reading from the Prophets is from 1 Kings 7:51 – 8:21, and from the New Testament we will be reading from the Gospel of John 14:12-31.

The interesting thing in the Torah is how many chapters deal with the Tabernacle that was built in the wilderness and carried around for near to 40 years until it was put to rest in the city of Shilo. From there, it finally was brought to Jerusalem by King David.

The Torah writes about the Tabernacle a total of 45 chapters. Exodus has 13 chapters devoted to the Tabernacle. Leviticus has 18 chapters devoted to the Tabernacle. Numbers has 13 chapters devoted to the Tabernacle. Deuteronomy has 2 chapters devoted to the Tabernacle.

When I discovered this information, I was actually in shock. The shock came because the majority of the discussion in the Torah of the Tabernacle is a kind of inventory of the furniture and the tools and the materials. The technical issues are not occupying a high percentage of this material.

My question is why did the Holy Spirit give us so much text and information that, at first doesn’t look so useful for the future generations, that moved on to the Temple in Jerusalem. Of course, it is much less relevant to generations after the destruction of the Temple in Jerusalem.

I am thinking and thinking and trying to pray and ask the Lord, why does the Torah spend so much text dealing with this tent built by Aaron and his sons and the Levites in the wilderness? There are probably several different reasons that can be given for the large amount of text that the Torah gives us about the Tabernacle.

But my opinion, it is so that people of Israel would know and understand that the presence of the Lord is in the middle of the camp and that they have a share and partnership in a constant reminder of God’s presence dwelling with them in the same camp; on the same earthly level, and not only detached far above in the Heaven.

This unique tent served as a blueprint for how the children of Israel were to approach God: in holiness, in purity, and in reverence. The furniture and symbolic elements inside the Tabernacle were communicating messages that enhanced the presence of the Lord in the middle of the camp of Israel. The pillar of cloud by day and the pillar of fire by night were an assurance that God is with Israel.

However, the most important element was the fact that every single family and adult individual in the camp of Israel knew that his half silver shekel was a part of the foundation that kept the Tabernacle standing. Every woman knew that her gold earrings and bracelets was shining in the Menorah (the candelabra) by day and night.

This idea that the people were partners with God and each had a physical part in the “place of God’s dwelling” was a very important aspect of the feeling of ownership and belonging and partnership with the Lord God, the Creator of the universe.

This is the reason why I think the Torah has so much telling and retelling and enumerating the tools and furniture and materials of the Tabernacle of the Lord. This Tabernacle followed them by day and by night, to announce by day and by night, that His presence was constantly in the camp of Israel.

In contrast to the Tabernacle in the Sinai Desert, was the building of the temple in Jerusalem by Solomon.

“Now Hiram king of Tyre sent his servants to Solomon, because he heard that they had anointed him king in place of his father, for Hiram had always loved David. Then Solomon sent to Hiram, saying: ‘You know how my father David could not build a house for the name of the LORD his God because of the wars which were fought against him on every side, until the LORD put his foes under the soles of his feet. But now the LORD my God has given me rest on every side; there is neither adversary nor evil occurrence. And behold, I propose to build a house for the name of the LORD my God, as the LORD spoke to my father David, saying, “Your son, whom I will set on your throne in your place, he shall build the house for My name.” Now therefore, command that they cut down cedars for me from Lebanon; and my servants will be with your servants, and I will pay you wages for your servants according to whatever you say. For you know there is none among us who has skill to cut timber like the Sidonians.’ So it was, when Hiram heard the words of Solomon, that he rejoiced greatly and said, Blessed be the LORD this day, for He has given David a wise son over this great people! Then Hiram sent to Solomon, saying: I have considered the message which you sent me, and I will do all you desire concerning the cedar and cypress logs. My servants shall bring them down from Lebanon to the sea; I will float them in rafts by sea to the place you indicate to me, and will have them broken apart there; then you can take them away. And you shall fulfill my desire by giving food for my household. Then Hiram gave Solomon cedar and cypress logs according to all his desire.” (1 Kings 5:1–10 NKJV)

The temple in Jerusalem was built by 50,000 foreign workers sent by Hiram from Tyra. The building material was from Lebanon, the design of the temple was Helanny, a typical pagan architectural design of a temple to their gods. There was no participation on volunteer basis by the people of Israel in the building of the temple in Jerusalem. This is the reason why the temple became the territory of the Priestly Levite families.

The Tabernacle was at a location in the middle of the camp of Israel that constantly reminded the people of God’s presence with them. It was a reminder that they have “stock” in that house of the Lord! This aspect is so important in synagogues and churches as well, especially in orthodox Jewish synagogues, this aspect is still in practice.

The money for building a synagogue is normally given by the members of that synagogue, and the names of those who contributed for the building of the synagogue are somewhere not far from the entrance to the building of the synagogue. The names of the members of the synagogue are on their chairs, preserved for them for Sabbath and especially for the High Holiday season when the synagogues are full to the top.

What is most important and of great significance is Solomon’s prayer for the dedication of the Temple in Jerusalem. It is something that sets apart the Temple in Jerusalem and in Judaism from every pagan temple to any of the pagan gods.

Yes, there are some magnificent temples in the world, and there were magnificent temples in Babylon and in Egypt. In Luxor Egypt, there was one Temple that was as big as four football fields together under one roof. Parts of that temple is still standing in Egypt.

So, here is what Solomon said in the dedication of the temple in Jerusalem:

“Then Solomon stood before the altar of the LORD in the presence of all the assembly of Israel, and spread out his hands toward heaven; and he said: “LORD God of Israel, there is no God in heaven above or on earth below like You, who keep Your covenant and mercy with Your servants who walk before You with all their hearts. You have kept what You promised Your servant David my father; You have both spoken with Your mouth and fulfilled it with Your hand, as it is this day. Therefore, LORD God of Israel, now keep what You promised Your servant David my father, saying, “You shall not fail to have a man sit before Me on the throne of Israel, only if your sons take heed to their way, that they walk before Me as you have walked before Me.’ And now I pray, O God of Israel, let Your word come true, which You have spoken to Your servant David my father. “But will God indeed dwell on the earth? Behold, heaven and the heaven of heavens cannot contain You. How much less this temple which I have built! Yet regard the prayer of Your servant and his supplication, O LORD my God, and listen to the cry and the prayer which Your servant is praying before You today: that Your eyes may be open toward this temple night and day, toward the place of which You said, “My name shall be there,’ that You may hear the prayer which Your servant makes toward this place. And may You hear the supplication of Your servant and of Your people Israel, when they pray toward this place. Hear in heaven Your dwelling place; and when You hear, forgive. “When anyone sins against his neighbor, and is forced to take an oath, and comes and takes an oath before Your altar in this temple, then hear in heaven, and act, and judge Your servants, condemning the wicked, bringing his way on his head, and justifying the righteous by giving him according to his righteousness.” (1 Kings 8:22–32 NKJV)

The apostle Paul said very similar things when he spoke to the judges of the high court of the Athenians on the Areopagus, right below the magnificent buildings of the temples of their pagan gods in the acropolis.

“God, who made the world and everything in it, since He is Lord of heaven and earth, does not dwell in temples made with hands. Nor is He worshiped with men’s hands, as though He needed anything, since He gives to all life, breath, and all things.” (Acts 17:24–25 NKJV)

This is important for us today, especially those of us who have been blessed to own our own buildings in the land of Israel and especially in Jerusalem. Our buildings are great blessings and very important tools to serve God and even more to serve the inhabitants of Jerusalem or Haifa, Tel-Aviv and every other location in this Land of Israel. Our buildings are not holy and there is no building of any synagogue or church that is holy.

In Jerusalem, we have the Church of the Holy Sepulcher, and the Mosque of Omar that is seating on the location of the Temple of Solomon and Herod the great, and these are considered “holy” like the pagan temples in Nepal or Thailand and India.

We must remember that the temple was not the house of God, it was a house for the people of God to serve and to subjectively feel that what they do is representing God for the people who came to worship Him.

I am happy that at Netivyah, we use our building for a broad spectrum of uses like offices, and the Hamotzi food distribution program that works with the city of Jerusalem’s social welfare department, and feeds near 1000 souls for seven days per week.

I am happy that we share our building, that is actually a very big gift from God, with other ministries, and do it for free, unlike some of the Christian missionary organizations in Jerusalem.

I am glad that there is social activity for the whole body of the Messiah in Jerusalem. However, I am most thankful to the Lord that we have a place that is used and especially used to worship and pray and study the word of God. Where the name of the Lord God of Israel and of Yeshua is praised and honored every Shabbat and every day of the week.

God does not dwell in buildings made by man’s hand, because, like the apostle Paul said it so well,

“God, who made the world and everything in it, since He is Lord of heaven and earth, does not dwell in temples made with hands. Nor is He worshiped with men’s hands, as though He needed anything, since He gives to all life, breath, and all things.”(Acts 17:24-28)

I want to bless all the local body of the Messiah and the Jewish congregations that don’t have their own buildings yet, to have their own buildings and to use their buildings as a place of blessings for the population of disciples of Yeshua in this land. But not only for the disciples of Yeshua, but also for the good of the general community of Jews and Arabs and anyone that would be a guest under the roof of Jewish disciples of Yeshua, in the land of Israel.

We at Netivyah will forever be grateful for Robert (Bob) and Margaret Lindsay for allowing us to use the Baptist House on Narkis Street 4, in Jerusalem. They invited us together with Windle Jones, (The model for the original Indiana Jones) who welcomed us, a very small group of Jewish disciples of Yeshua, to use their building (The Baptist Church in West Jerusalem).

We used the Baptist house in Jerusalem for 9 years and shared the office with Dr. Bob (Robert) Lindsay. There were many times that violent persecution was directed against us; a military hand Granada exploded just minutes after we left the building. Lucky my teaching was shorter than usual and we were just a few meters away when the grenade exploded in a plastic bucket full of nails right at the door that we just walked out from.

The front window of the Baptist book store was broken many Saturday evenings during our prayer meetings. The Chief of Police of Jerusalem, Dr. Arie Shnaitzer, who was my classmate and personal friend from preschool through high school, would worship with us for weeks and have detectives stationed around the building.

Dr. Lyndsay never wavered, and supported our use of the building for years. Yes, God doesn’t dwell in buildings made by the hands of men, because the Earth is His food-stool and the heavens and the heavens can’t contain Him. But our hearts, the hearts of man after being circumcised by the Holy Spirit, can contain Him, if we open the door and let Him into our hearts. He will clean and guide and lead us with His Torah that is planted into our hearts.

Take these verses in consideration:

“Therefore, know this day, and consider it in your heart, that the LORD Himself is God in heaven above and on the earth beneath; there is no other.” (Deuteronomy 4:39 NKJV)

“But what does it say? “The word is near you, in your mouth and in your heart”: that if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.” (Romans 10:8–9 NKJV)

Please pray for Israel which is in a situation that can easily turn into an end of democracy in the State of Israel. The problem is not one-sided, it is from both sides of the political spectrum.

In Jerusalem pray for the following brothers and sisters who are in need of divine grace and the gentle touch of the hand of God for healing and strength.

Ilana Ahijervie, a dear sister who is 98 years old and suffering from memory problems.

Lea Korky, a dear sister who is 89 years old and served for many years as a nurse in the Sha’arei Zedek Hospital in Jerusalem.

Sarit, a sister born in Jerusalem, over 87 years old, lives alone. Has no close family, and suffers from several old-age illnesses.

Yehuda Hochman, is a dear older brother living in the Negev desert with some illness that needs healing.

Please continue to pray for My wife Marcia and her health. We need to pray for her strength and her energy and her arthritis and diabetic and memory problems, as well as for help in my house that will free me to do more for the Kingdom.

Your prayers for Alexander and Sarah, and Andrew, who were raised as believers and have left their faith behind, have been answered, the Divine Shepherd guided these members of the same family gently back to the fold, please keep praying for their general and spiritual welfare!

Pray for Adam R. Adam has lost much of his hearing as a result of a virus. Pray for Adam and his family of 8 children.

A dear friend from Hong Kong, Bonnie, asked that we pray for her brother who lives in Australia. Bonnie’s brother’s name is Ray Chen. Please mention the name Ray Chen and ask God to show this man the grace of God and God’s powerful healing of body and soul and restoration of faith and life of holiness and sanctity.

In Finland we have some precious and dear brothers and sisters that need our prayers:

Pray for Keijo and Salme, our dear partners and fellow workers in God’s flock. Both Keijo and Salme have some challenging heart issues.

Sipra, our dear sister in Nokia who is a widow with some health issues.

Satu-Maria, Sinni Tuuli, Anne Mirjami, our dear sisters, and all our other brothers and sisters in Finland who need our prayers: Eva H., Patty, Andrea, Julia and Victor, and Aaron Tani, and Hillel.

Please don’t forget to pray for the health of Kari Antilles in Finland. He is a dear brother and supporter in prayer for Netivyah for many years.

Brazil

Pray for the congregations related to Netivyah in Brazil, to have the strength and stamina to face the challenges in front of them with courage and strength of faithfulness to the Lord, and to the vision of the restoration of the church and Israel.

Pray for the millions of victims of the Spanish and Portuguese Inquisition who have been forced to convert to the Catholic church, and now want to return home to the land of Israel and to the faith of our fathers.

Pray for the state of Israel to open the doors for these lost Jews to be able to return and fulfill God’s promises to the prophet Ovadyah:

“But on Mount Zion there shall be deliverance, And there shall be holiness; The house of Jacob shall possess their possessions. The house of Jacob shall be a fire, And the house of Joseph a flame; But the house of Esau shall be stubble; They shall kindle them and devour them, And no survivor shall remain of the house of Esau, For the Lord has spoken. The South shall possess the mountains of Esau, And the Lowland shall possess Philistia. They shall possess the fields of Ephraim And the fields of Samaria. Benjamin shall possess Gilead. And the captives of this host of the children of Israel Shall possess the land of the Canaanites As far as Zarephath. The captives of Jerusalem who are in Sepharad Shall possess the cities of the South. Then saviors shall come to Mount Zion To judge the mountains of Esau, And the kingdom shall be the Lord’s.” — Obadiah 1:17-21 [NKJV]

Pray for a dear young man, Paulo, from Curitiba, Brazil, who is seriously needing our prayers for sanity and mental health.

Pray for Rita Sassai, from Vitória, ES.

Clara Rita Souza Cardozo jr. She has cancer and is begging God for healing.

Fatima Maria Docarmo Guimararaes - pray for her health and her granddaughters twin babies.

Pray for our dear brother Marcelo G. and his family. Marcelo is a pioneer in establishing the Teaching from Zion ministry in Brazil and the Har Zion Congregation in Belo-Horizonte.

Pray for Marcelo’s father who is up in the years.

Pray for our brothers in the Har Zion congregation, the widow of Pastor George, and for those who are ill and need healing.

Pray for Livia Schnell Nothen, she has some issues with her physical health and a growth in her adrenal gland. And other health issues.

Guilherme Antonio Nothen Becker, who is suffering from back problems. Aratuza de Oliveira his wife. Pray for this 3-year-old child that has serious problems with his eyes and ask the Lord to give healing to his eyes. This child’s name is Caique de Oliveira Becker.

Pray for Bernardo Antonio Nothen Becker. Bernardo is addicted to gambling and playing poker. This caused deep sorrow to his family.

Fernanda Nothen Becker, our dear sister has problems with her job that cause her pressure and challenges. Pray for the social situation in Fernanda’s work to turn and her suffering to turn into joy and friendship.

A 70-year-old Pastor Paulo C. Pereira Braga Dias, He is the father of a dear sister in Brazil, and suffers from diabetes.

Pray for Roberto Morias, a dear brother who is going through heart surgery and an angiogram.

In Asia we have several brothers and sisters who need our prayers.

Pray for Pastor Barnabas in Korea, who is in a coma.

Pray for pastor T.J. in Taiwan.

Pray for sister Reiko Ishiida and Elder Takeo and his wife Tomoko from Tokyo, and for Daisuke Sensei in Osaka. Dr. Yuizawa, and Pastor Yushida and his family.

Pray for Sister Yoko Nagumo in Japan.

In India, Pastor Isaac, from Chennai, needs our prayers. Pastor Isaac is suffering from kidney problems and has to have dialysis several times per week.

Tony Tam and his wife Luisa and son Marco need special prayer for their situation.

Pray for the Cohen family in Hong Kong and for the leadership and congregation of 611 in Hong Kong.

We continue to pray for Zhou Wenrian, Abe family, Toru San, Yumi Ohara and her family. Deborah Ruth, Ayla and Daniel and their daughter. Dr. Song, and his wife Sister Harriet Kim.

Please pray for Ruby K. from Hong Kong. Ruby has gone through a very complicated surgery for multiple cancers in her body. The surgery was very long, and Ruby is back home now recovering. Please lift Ruby K. and ask the Lord to heal and deliver Ruby from Hong Kong.

Pray for family and friends and dear brothers and sisters in the United States of America.

Please pray for the daughter of Bill Colwell, who is very sick with cancer.

Please pray for my family in the United States: Barry my son and his wife Beth, and for Joey my grandson. Pray for their divine protection and health.

Pray for Danah my daughter's health issues. I pray for the Lord to give Danah wisdom and peace and calm in life and in her work.

Pray for Noaam my granddaughter. She is working two jobs now and needs good health and wisdom to make the right choices and plans for life, education, immigration to Israel, and just general protection from all harm.

Pray for David Young the preacher in Murfreesboro, Tennessee, who is back to preaching after recovering from medical issues. Please keep David in your prayers.

Pray for Ruby Little, our dear and faithful sister who has cancer and has stopped receiving medical treatment for the cancer that she has. Please pray for Ruby that the Lord will heal and strengthen her and provide for all her needs both medically and socially.

Aaron Hook, Nancy Hook’s oldest son, needs our prayers for wisdom and healing from past issues of life.

Lift for blessing and healing Jonathan B. and his wife Aviva and their new baby, his mother, and his brother Daniel. Pray for these very important men of God: Rabbi Salt, his family, and Rabbi Hasselblad. They are both older and need protection and blessings.

Pray a blessing for a dear sister Angela Isby and her situation. Pray for Tiz H. and Lion H.

Also pray for Ilana Avramov who is married to my cousin Nissim and lives in New York City. Ilana has fallen and in now in rehab learning how to walk again. We pray for her full recovery. She and Nissim both need our prayers.

Joseph Mock, a young man in his 30s, a dear brother that was named after me, has leukemia in an advanced stage. He is in the hospital and needs our urgent prayers. Joseph Mock is the son of Steve Mock, who is also one of the faithful disciples of Yeshua who became a believer in the early years of Netivyah.

Steve Mock is also in need of our prayers. He had a massive stroke and now he cannot speak, and has other limitations. Please keep Steve Mock also in your prayers, and pray for his wife Josse for strength and blessings and good health.

Pray for three women of God in Canada who need healing, Lynda, Sandy and Joanne.

Please pray for Netivyah and for the good work that Netivyah is doing in Israel and around the world.

We need more workers because of the challenges and needs and opportunities to bless the King Yeshua and His Kingdom down here on Earth and bless the poor people of Jerusalem visit here do what they can and produce more materials, books, and magazines.

We ask you to join us in prayer that the right young people, talented and anointed by the Spirit of God will come and work with us, and the provision to pay the Netivyah workers a fair and just payment.

I pray that the Lord will inspire and motivate brothers and sisters and ministries who can help with this to visit here do what they can to make it possible for us to double or more than double, the number of people and families that we serve.

I wish all of you, who stand with Israel and who pray for Jerusalem, the best of the Lord’s blessings and the fulfillment of all His promises to His faithful children.

Those who hear God and do His will are the ones who are called wise! Those who only hear His word and don’t do it are called foolish!

Let us all strive to be wise and never foolish! The best is yet to come!
