여호와의 완전한 법
이번 안식일 토라 포션은 “미슈파팀”입니다. 그리고 이번 안식일은 연중 특별 안식일 중 하나이기도 합니다. 이 안식일은 셰칼림 안식일이라고 부릅니다. 여러분은 아마도 이미 이스라엘 화폐를 단수로 셰켈, 복수로 셰칼림이라고 부른다는 것을 아실 것입니다. 셰켈은 사실 하나의 계량 단위입니다. 그리고 현대 이스라엘 화폐 이름이기도 합니다. 읽는 본문은 출애굽기 21:1~24:18입니다. 선지서에서 읽는 부분은 열왕기하 12:1-17입니다. 셰칼림 안식일이기 때문에 추가로 읽는 말씀 본문도 있는데요, 열왕기하 11:17~12:17입니다. 지난 주 안식일에 토라 포션 “이드로”를 읽은 것을 기억하실 것입니다. 그는 모세의 장인으로 미디안 제사장입니다. 시내산에서 토라와 십계명 수여도 있었습니다. 토라 수여 직후에, 토라 율법의 실제적 적용이 옵니다. 토라 수여 직후 하나님께서 이스라엘 사회의 가장 약한 고리, 즉 히브리 종들의 신분과 권리를 다룬 것은 흥미롭습니다. 사회의 가장 약한 고리, 종들의 권리에 관한 법의 효력을 논하는 법이 진짜 하나님의 법입니다. 하나님께서는 히브리 종의 권리, 그 종들의 주인의 그의 종에 대한 관계를 실제적으로, 거의 현대 21세기 인권에 가깝게 규율하십니다. 여호와의 증거는 확실하여 우둔한 자를 지혜롭게 하며;
여호와의 교훈은 정직하여 마음을 기쁘게 하고;
여호와의 계명은 순결하여 눈을 밝게 하시도다;
여호와를 경외하는 도는 정결하여 영원까지 이르고;
여호와의 법도 진실하여 다 의로우니
금 곧 많은 순금보다 더 사모할 것이며 꿀과 송이꿀보다 더 달도다
또 주의 종이 이것으로 경고를 받고 이것을 지킴으로 상이 크니이다”
(시편 19:7–11) 이 시편 19편의 다음 구절을 주목해 보시기 바랍니다:
“여호와의 법도 진실하여 다 의로우니” 이 구절은 토라와 하나님을 이해하는 데에 있어서 가장 중요한 것입니다. 이 하나님의 말씀은 여러분이 토라를 전체로, 하나님의 계시라는 전체 그림의 맥락으로 받아들일 때에만 하나님의 의로우심과 그분의 창조한 모든 것에 대한 그분의 위대한 사랑을 볼 수 있다고 분명히 말하고 있습니다. 주목해야 할 두 번째 중요한 점은 이 시편의 11절 “또 주의 종이 이것(토라의 계명)으로 경고를 받고 이것을 지킴으로 상이 크니이다”입니다. 우리는 이 시편에서 토라가 죄와 잘못을 저지르지 못하도록 막는 예방책으로 준 것이지, 잘못을 저지른 사람의 처벌 목록으로 준 것이 아님을 알 수 있습니다. 다음은 이미 주후 210년에 있었던 미쉬나에서 인용한 문구입니다: “미쉬나에서 계속되기를: 사형을 집행할 권한이 있는 산헤드린을 수립하라는 명령은 이스라엘 땅에서도 이스라엘 땅 밖에서도 유효하다. 7년에 한 번 범법자를 처형하는 산헤드린은 처형 법정으로 분류한다. 산헤드린은 증언의 정확성을 조사해야 하기 때문에, 피고가 처형되는 일은 아주 드물었다. 랍비 엘라자르 벤 아자랴는 말하기를: 이런 분류는 70년에 한 번 범죄자를 처형하는 산헤드린에 적용된다. 랍비 타르폰과 랍비 아키바는 말하기를: 우리가 산헤드린 의원이었다면, 우리는 아무도 처형되지 않도록 재판을 했을 것이다. 랍반 시몬 벤 가말리엘은 말하기를: 그러한 접근법을 채택할 때 그들 역시 유대인들 중에서 살인자들의 수를 늘렸을 것이다. 사형은 그 억제책으로서의 가치를 잃을 것이다. 모든 잠재적 살인자들이 아무도 처형된 적이 없다는 것을 알 것이기 때문이다.” (미쉬나 막코트 편 1:10) 미쉬나의 이 본문은 범죄자의 처형이 매우 드문 일임을 증명합니다. 이것은 또한 사도 바울이 검사로서 스데반 법정 사건에 가담한 것에 왜 그렇게 죄책감을 느꼈는지를 설명해 주기도 하는데요, 스데반 같이 유대교로 개종한 무고한 개종자를 처형하기 위해 재판을 왜곡했기 때문입니다. 바울은 그 자신에 대해 다음과 같이 말합니다: “미쁘다 모든 사람이 받을 만한 이 말이여 그리스도 예수께서 죄인을 구원하시려고 세상에 임하셨다 하였도다 죄인 중에 내가 괴수니라” (디모세전서 1:15) 제가 주목하는 흥미로운 점은 가말리엘 가문이 이 논의에 가담되어 있다는 점입니다. 가말리엘은 사도 바울의 스승이었고, 여기 이 미쉬나에는 랍비 가말리엘의 아들이 가담하고 있습니다. 이 모든 것에 있어서 가장 슬픈 것은 저희 유대인 진영에서 하나님의 선한 법을 왜곡하고 포장하여 하나님께서 우리에게 주신 토라에서 너무도 동떨어지고 토라의 정신, 심지어 제2성전 시대 산헤드린의 정신에도 너무도 낯설게 만들어서 오늘날의 유대교는 중세시대에 토라와 토라 속의 주님의 의도를 모방한 모방물 같아진 것입니다. 오늘날 이스라엘 땅에서 유대교 권위자들은 그들의 정치적 이득을 위해 토라를 늘리고 과장하고 왜곡하여 콰시모도(빅토르 휘고 작 노트르담의 곱추의 등장인물)로 만들었습니다. 제가 콰시모도를 말하는 이유는 그는 선한 의도를 가졌고 다른 사람들을 사랑하여 희생할 수 있는 선한 사람이었지만 외모는 일그러지고 흉했기 때문입니다. 저는 현재의 이스라엘의 정통 유대교의 모습은 적어도 빅토르 휘고의 소설 <노트르담의 곱추>의 주인공, 귀머거리에 불쌍하게 못생긴 콰시모도를 꼭 닮았다고 봅니다. 제가 오늘날 정통 유대교에서 되어지고 있는 일을 콰시모도의 모습으로 묘사한다고 해서 저를 판단하지 마시기를 바랍니다. 이것이 저의 최선입니다! 가장 중요한 것은 토라는 오늘날에도 시편 저자가 하나님의 토라(율법)을 묘사한 그대로입니다: 여호와의 율법은 완전합니다! 기독교인들은 제가 오늘날의 유대교와 토라에 대해 말한 것을 놓고 의기양양해 하지 마십시오. 소위 기독교의 대부분은 오늘날 유대인들의 현주소보다 훨씬 더 나갔습니다. 유대교의 지류는 네 개 밖에 없지만, 기독교 교단은 수천 개가 넘습니다. 유대인들은 집단수용소라는 것을 지은 적이 없고, 다른 유대인을 대적하여, 심지어 원수를 대적해서도 수십 년 동안 전쟁을 벌인 적이 없습니다. 우리는 모두 죄인이고 우리는 모두 실수를 하고 계속 실수를 저지릅니다. 그러나 우리에게는 히브리서 10:19–25에 다음과 같은 가르침이 있습니다: “그러므로 형제들아 우리가 예수의 피를 힘입어 성소에 들어갈 담력을 얻었나니 그 길은 우리를 위하여 휘장 가운데로 열어 놓으신 새로운 살 길이요 휘장은 곧 그의 육체니라 또 하나님의 집 다스리는 큰 제사장이 계시매 우리가 마음에 뿌림을 받아 악한 양심으로부터 벗어나고 몸은 맑은 물로 씻음을 받았으니 참 마음과 온전한 믿음으로 하나님께 나아가자 또 약속하신 이는 미쁘시니 우리가 믿는 도리의 소망을 움직이지 말며 굳게 잡고 서로 돌아보아 사랑과 선행을 격려하며 모이기를 폐하는 어떤 사람들의 습관과 같이 하지 말고 오직 권하여 그 날이 가까움을 볼수록 더욱 그리하자” (히브리서 10:19–25)

The Perfect Law of the Lord
The Torah Portion this next Shabbat is Mishpatim, and this Shabbat is also one of the special Shabbats of the year. It is called Shabbat Shekalim. You probably already know that the Israeli money is called shekel in the singular and shekalim in the plural. Shekel is actually a unit of measurement, and it is also the name of the Israeli modern coinage. The reading is from Exodus 21:1-24:18. From the prophets, the reading is from 2 Kings 12:1-17. There is an additional text that is read especially because it is Shabbat Shekalim. The special reading for Shabbat Shekalim is from 2 Kings 11:17 – 12:17. We must remember that a week ago on Shabbat, in the reading of the Torah portion was Yitro, who was the father-in-law of Moses, the priest of Median. There was also the giving of the Torah on Mount Sinai and the Ten-Commandments. Immediately after the giving of the Torah, there come the practical out working of the laws of the Torah. It is interesting that the first thing after the giving of the Torah God addresses that status and the rights of the weakest link of the Israeli society – the Hebrew Slaves. A law that discusses the effect of the law on the weakest link of Society, the rights of the Slaves is truly God’s Law. God regulates the relationship and rights of the Hebrew Slaves and the relationship of the owner of the Slaves towards his slave with the practical and almost modern human-rights of the 21st century.” (Exodus 2) The other ancient laws from Mesopotamia, the Code of Hammurabi, and the Um-Namu laws, from around 2100 – 2400 B.C.E., and other laws that are even earlier laws than the Um Namu laws, all have a totally different attitude toward their house slaves, that actually actively puts the slave as property with very limited human rights. It is clear that the Torah is doing two things: 1) accommodating the slaves with privileges and limits what the slave owner can exercises over his Hebrew human slave, and not treat him like property. The law of Moses that gives limited rights of the Hebrew slaves, is miles above the other ancient laws that are speaking clearly for the Aramaic, and Assyrian regulation. 2) We have the Torah of God speaking about an accidental damage to people that are not involved in a fight or a quarrel. The Torah law takes into account that it doesn’t matter who you are and what is your status in society. If you cause damage to an innocent by stander, you are responsible to pay for that damage.Human trafficking and enslaving a person for any reason is taken very seriously and such a case the Torah says: “He who kidnaps a person (male or female) and sells him, or if he is found in his hand, shall surely be put to death.” (Exodus 21:16 NKJV) In all the great empires during that period and even much later like in the 18th and 19th centuries in England, France, Belgium, Spain, Portugal, and the “good old” United States of America, from children to adults, from male to female people were kidnapped in Africa and in some south East Asian countries. Thousands upon thousands of people were kidnapped and loaded on ships and shipped to good old CHRISTIAN families to be slaves. Some of these slaves contributed to American culture and intellect even from their slavery. Here are just two examples of some of those who were born in slavery and achieved greatness in their contribution to humanity: William Wells Brown, (born 1814?, near Lexington, Ky., U.S.—died Nov. 6, 1884, Chelsea, Mass.),is an American writer who is considered to be the first African-American to publish a novel. He was also the first to have a play and a travel book published. George Washington Carver, (born 1861? near Diamond Grove, Missouri, U.S.—died January 5, 1943, Tuskegee, Alabama), was an American agricultural chemist, agronomist, and experimenter whose development of new products derived from peanuts (groundnuts), sweet potatoes, and soybeans, helped revolutionize the agricultural economy of the South. For most of his career he taught and conducted research at the Tuskegee Normal and Industrial Institute (now Tuskegee University) in Tuskegee, Alabama. Carver was born into slavery, the son of an enslaved woman named Mary, owned by Moses Carver. During the American Civil War, the Carver farm was raided, and infant George and his mother were kidnapped… The reason that I am brining this information to you and sharing it with you is so that the “self-righteous” that condemn Israel today would understand how great the Torah was and still is, in comparison to the great empires of the ancient world and even great in comparison to the not so ancient world. In antiquity around in the Middle East those ancient laws, like the laws of Um-Namu and the Code of Hammurabi, are being praised as great achievements of humanity, and they are great for even having such a thing as a code of laws. But even today in the countries around us now, if you are an important person and you have an accident with your car and wound or kill a poor person, you can get away with murder and just pay some small sum and walk away. The Torah states in this week’s portion, that is read around the whole world, “He who kidnaps a person (male of female) and sells him, or if he is found in his hand, shall surely be put to death.” (Exodus 21:16 NKJV) May be dear brothers and sisters if the world would believe and keep the Torah, human-trafficking would not be so popular; sexual enslavement of human beings might not be considered such attractive business. Our Torah was and is the most enlightened code of laws existing in the history of humanity. Yes, there are laws, that to the antisemitic critics of the Torah ,might look horrible because of their ignorance or because of the modern self-righteous values that have brought western civilization to the state of affairs of Sodom and Gomorrah. Please, when you examine the following laws in their context and remember that these laws were preexisted and not in self-imposed situations, but only when a proper examination and a court of law decreed the such punishment and remember, it was always executed by payment not actually going to take a person’s eye or tooth… This prayer list is way too short to enter into greater detail and more examples, but my central point in this Jerusalem Prayer List is to defend and stand with God’s laws and rules, as the Psalmist states so clearly, what the truths and the blessings of having a divine law given to us and to all of humanity on Mount Sinai by God’s own hand: “The law of the LORD is perfect,
converting the soul; The testimony of the LORD is sure, making wise the simple;
The statutes of the LORD are right, rejoicing the heart;
The commandment of the LORD is pure, enlightening the eyes;
The fear of the LORD is clean, enduring forever;
The judgments of the LORD are true and righteous altogether.
More to be desired are they than gold, Yea, than much fine gold;
Sweeter also than honey and the honeycomb. Moreover by them Your servant is warned, And in keeping them there is great reward.” (Psalm 19:7–11 NKJV) Please notice the following phrases from this Psalm 19:
“The judgments of the Lord are true and are righteous altogether.” This verse is of the greatest importance for understanding the Torah and understanding God. These words of God state clearly that only when you take the whole Torah and in context of the whole picture of God’s revelation, can you see the righteousness of God and His great love for His creation in general. The second important thing to notice is verse 11 of this Psalm: “Moreover by them (I.e., The Torah commandments.)” “Your servant is warned” and “in keeping them there is great reward.” We learn from this Psalm that the Torah was given as a prophylactic to prevent sin and wrong-doing and not essentially as list of punishments for wrongdoers. Here is a quotation from the Mishnah dated no later than 210 A.D: "The Mishna continues: The commandment to establish a Sanhedrin with the authority to administer capital punishments is in effect both in the land of Israel and outside the land of Israel. A Sanhedrin that executes a transgressor once in seven years is characterized as a destructive tribunal. Since the Sanhedrin would subject the testimony to exacting scrutiny, it was extremely rare for a defendant to be executed. Rabbi Elazar ben Azarya says: This categorization applies to a Sanhedrin that executes a transgressor once in seventy years. Rabbi Tarfon and Rabbi Akiva say: If we had been members of the Sanhedrin, we would have conducted trials in a manner whereby no person would have ever been executed. Rabban Shimon ben Gamaliel says: In adopting that approach, they too would increase the number of murderers among the Jewish people. The death penalty would lose its deterrent value, as all potential murderers would know that no one is ever executed.” (Mishnah Tractate Makkot 1:10) This text from the Mishnah is a proof that execution of a criminal was a very rare thing. This also explains why the Apostle Paul was feeling so guilty for participating in the court case of Steven as the prosecuting attorney that twisted the trial in order to achieve an execution of an innocent convert to Judaism like Steven. Paul says the following about himself: “This is a faithful saying and worthy of all acceptance, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners, of whom I am chief.” (1 Timothy 1:15 NKJV) What is interesting for us to note is that the family of Gamaliel is involved in this discussion. Please remember that Gamaliel was the Apostle Paul’s teacher and here in this Mishnah, the son of Rabbi Gamaliel is involved. The saddest thing about all this is, in our own Jewish camp, we have twisted and wrapped the good laws of God and took them so far from the Torah that God gave us and so strange to the Spirit of the Torah or even the Spirit of the Sanhedrin of the Second Temple, that today’s Judaism is like some Medieval parody of the Torah and the intent of the Lord in the Torah. Authorities of Judaism today in the land of Israel have made the Torah that they stretched and expanded and twisted for political gain, into a Quasimodo. I say Quasimodo because he was a good person with good intent and with the ability to love and sacrifice for others, but he looked twisted and unseemly on the outside. I see the present form of Israeli Orthodoxy at least as a reflection of Quasimodo, as the deaf, pitiably ugly protagonist of Victor Hugo's novel, The Hunchback of Notre Dame. Please don’t judge me for using this description of what is being done in today’s Orthodox Judaism with the image of Quasimodo. It is the best that I can do! The most important thing is that the Torah is still today, exactly the way that the Psalmist described God’s Torah: The law of the LORD is perfect! Christians don’t gloat over what I said about todays’ Judaism and the Torah. Most of so-called Christianity, has gone far beyond where Jews are today. There are only four branches of Judaism and more than thousands of Christian denominations. Jews never built concentration camps or had decades of wars against other Jews or even not for our enemies. We are all sinners and we have all made mistakes and keep making them. However, we have the following instructions from the book of Hebrews 10:19–25: “Therefore, brethren, having boldness to enter the Holiest by the blood of Jesus, by a new and living way which He consecrated for us, through the veil, that is, His flesh, and having a High Priest over the house of God, let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled from an evil conscience and our bodies washed with pure water. Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for He who promised is faithful. And let us consider one another in order to stir up love and good works, not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as is the manner of some, but exhorting one another, and so much the more as you see the Day approaching.” (Hebrews 10:19–25)

Please pray for Israel during these difficult moments of political needs in the creation of the new government after the last election. There are some major political earthquakes in Israel and in the Knesset (our parliament) with the new government and the opposition.
Israel is in a situation that can easily turn into an end of democracy in the State of Israel. The problem is not one-sided, it is from both sides of the political spectrum.
In Jerusalem pray for the following brothers and sisters who are in need of divine grace and the gentle touch of the hand of God for healing and strength.
Ilana Ahijervie, a dear sister who is 98 years old and suffering from memory problems.
Lea Korky, a dear sister who is 89 years old and served for many years as a nurse in the Sha’arei Zedek Hospital in Jerusalem.
Sarit, a sister born in Jerusalem, over 87 years old, lives alone. Has no close family, and suffers from several old-age illnesses.
Yehuda Hochman, is a dear older brother living in the Negev desert with some illness that needs healing.
Please continue to pray for My wife Marcia and her health. We need to pray for her strength and her energy and her arthritis and diabetic and memory problems.
Marcia and I are planning to travel to the United States in the middle of January until the end of February. I will be teaching in the United States and also traveling to Brazil to share and hold some important seminars on topics that need to be understood and practiced by the body of the Messiah worldwide. Very little of what Yeshua commanded His disciples is practiced and even instructed by the vast majority of the Christian community worldwide.
Your prayers for Alexander have been answered, but please keep praying for Alexander and for his sister Sarah, and his brother Andrew, and their general and spiritual welfare!
Please pray for Michael McGoff, Michael had heart surgery a few days ago and we need to pray for his full recovery.
Pray for Adam R., Adam works in Netivyah as the media director and he, like Yehuda and Daniel, has been raised in Netivyah congregation in the Galilee. Adam has lost much of his hearing as a result of a virus. Pray for Adam and his family of 8 children.
Pray for Adam’s father and mother, Barry and Dalia. They too have some health problems and challenges.
Pray for Miriam and for Hannah, her daughter. Miriam is a dear sister and has lost her husband recently. Pray for Daniel S. and his children. Our dear leader in the Ro’eh Israel congregation, Gary, and his health, and for his wife Melanie and their family.
Pray for Um Mahmud Abu-Eid and Jimmy Abu-Eid and all of the family. This is a dear family of old friends that needs healing and wisdom for the children and for their work.
Please pray for the Romero family who live deep in the Negev desert. It is hot there and they are far from our congregation, we miss them, but we wish them a wonderful summer.
Please pray for Alexander West and his sister Sarah West. Alexander has a very serious case of Covid, and he has asked for prayer. This is a good thing, since Alexander has been estranged form the faith for a season. Pray also for Ronan, Alexander’s wife, who also has a challenging case of Covid.
Pray for the Ro’eh Israel congregation and the leadership of Netivyah. I have received my last check in the end of August. I am no longer employed by Netivyah. I am continuing the Lord’s work without stopping or slowing down for one minute. I need your prayers because from January I will be living on a pension. Until January, by God’s grace!
Pray for our sister Nina Nichayev, who is in the hospital for tests. Nina needs our prayers and the prayers of our brothers and sisters around the world.

Pray for the state of Israel to open the doors for these lost Jews to be able to return and fulfill God’s promises to the prophet Ovadyah:

And the captives of this host of the children of Israel Shall possess the land of the Canaanites As far as Zarephath. The captives of Jerusalem who are in Sepharad Shall possess the cities of the South. Pray for our dear brother Marcelo G. and his family. Marcelo is a pioneer in the establishing the Teaching from Zion ministry in Brazil and the Har Zion Congregation in Belo-Horizonte.

Pray for Bernardo Antonio Nothen Becker. Bernardo is addicted to gambling and playing poker. This caused deep sorrow to his family.
Fernanda Nothen Becker, our dear sister has problems with her job that cause her pressure and challenges. Pray for the social situation in Fernanda’s work to turn and her suffering to turn into joy and friendship.

Please pray for Ruby K. from Hong Kong. Ruby has gone through a very complicated surgery for multiple cancers in her body. The surgery was very long, and Ruby is back home now recovering. Please lift Ruby K. and ask the Lord to heal and deliver Ruby from Hong Kong.

Lift for blessing and healing Jonathan B. and his wife Aviva and their new baby, his mother, and his brother Daniel. Pray for these very important men of God: Rabbi Salt, his family, and Rabbi Hasselblad. They are both older and need protection and blessings.

Also pray for Ilana Avramov who is married to my cousin Nissim and lives in New York City. Ilana has fallen and in now in rehab learning how to walk again. We pray for her full recovery. She and Nissim both need our prayers.
Joseph Mock, a young man in his 30s, a dear brother that was named after me, has leukemia in an advanced stage. He is in the hospital and needs our urgent prayers. Joseph Mock is the son of Steve Mock, who is also one of the faithful disciples of Yeshua who became a believer in the early years of Netivyah.
Steve Mock is also in need of our prayers. He had a massive stroke and now he cannot speak, and has other limitations. Please keep Steve Mock also in your prayers, and pray for his wife Josse for strength and blessings and good health.
Pray for three women of God in Canada who need healing, Lynda, Sandy and Joanne.
I pray that the Lord will inspire and motivate brothers and sisters and ministries who can help with this to visit here do what they can to make it possible for us to double or more than double, the number of people and families that we serve.

We need more workers because of the challenges and needs and opportunities to bless the King Yeshua and His Kingdom down here on Earth and bless the poor people of Jerusalem and produce more materials, books, and magazines.
