죄와 용서
이스라엘을 위해 기도해 주시면 감사하겠습니다. 이스라엘은 1948년 건국 이래 처음으로 사회 일부에서의 자멸적이고 분열적인 정치적 격변을 내부적으로 “자가 면역”하는 존재적 위험에 처해 있고, 내전의 위험이 있습니다. 저는 이스라엘에서 내전이 일어날 거라고는 생각하지 않지만, 일부 정치인들이 감히 그런 가증한 일을 언급하고 있다는 생각만으로도 이미 하나님의 약속의 땅에 살고 있는 이스라엘 민족을 사랑하는 모든 이들에게 심각한 걱정거리입니다. 이번 주 토라 포션은 “타즈리아”와 “메쪼라” 두 개입니다. 토라에서 읽는 부분은 레위기 12:1~15:33입니다. 선지서에서 읽는 말씀은 열왕기하 7:3-20이고, 신약성경에서 읽는 말씀은 누가복음 17:1-19입니다. 이번 토라 포션에는 문둥병의 상세한 내용이 충분히 정의되어 있으나, 성경에서 문둥병이라고 부르는 질병은 오늘날 세계 대부분의 지역에서는 존재하지 않는다고 합니다. 저는 사실 이번 안식일에 저희 회중에서 읽을 신약성경 포션인 누가복음 17:1-19를 여러분과 나누고 싶습니다. 누가복음 17장에서 예슈아께서 제기하신 첫 번째 이슈는 다른 사람들로 하여금 죄짓게 만드는 죄입니다. 저는 많은 형제자매들이 다른 사람들로 하여금 죄짓게 만들고도 그들이 그러는 줄을 인식하지도 못하고 있고 이런 법칙에 대해 알지도 못하고 있다는 것을 알게 되었습니다. 단지 아주 드문 경우에 일부의 사람들이 그들의 죄와 다른 사람들로 하여금 죄짓게 하는 심각성을 아는데요, 보통은 믿음이 어린 형제자매들입니다. 누가복음 17장에서 예슈아께서는 아주 진지하고 담대한 말씀을 하십니다: 네가 공동체나 네 형제자매 중 한 사람에게 걸림돌이 된다면, 너는 화강암으로 만든 맷돌을 메는 것이 더 나을 것이다. 다시 말해서, 누군가로 하여금 죄짓게 만들거나 형제나 자매로 하여금 결과적으로 죄짓도록 만드는 것은 극히 심각한 죄입니다. 그것은 여러분의 목에 맷돌을 달고 물에 빠지는 것만큼 심각한 죄입니다. 우리는 어떻게 다른 사람들로 하여금 죄짓게 만드는 것일까요? The Jerusalem Prayer List – April 21, 2023

Sin and Forgivness
Your prayers for Israel will be highly appreciated. Israel, for the first time since the establishment of the State in 1948, is in an existential danger of internal “autoimmune” self-destructive, divisive, political upheaval, that in some circles it is threatening a civil war. I don’t think that a civil war will happen in Israel but the very idea that some politicians are even daring to mention such an abominable thing is already of grave concern for all those who love Israel as a nation living in God’s promised Land. This week the reading from the Torah will have two Torah portions joined together, Tazriah and Metzora. The reading will start from Leviticus 12:1 – 15:33. From the Prophets, the reading will be from 2 Kings 7:3-20, and from the New Testament the reading will be from Luke 17:1-19. In the Torah reading the details of leprosy are defined completely, and it is said that the Biblical illness called leprosy is not existent today in most of the world. I would like to actually share with you from the portion of the New Testament that our congregations read this Shabbat, Luke chapter 17:1-19. The first issue that Yeshua raises in the beginning of Luke chapter 17 is the sin of causing others to sin. I have found out that many dear brothers and sisters that cause others to sin are not even conscious that they did such and don’t know about this rule. Only on very rare occasions some do understand their sin and the seriousness of causing others to sin; usually younger brothers and sisters in the faith. Yeshua, in Luke 17, makes a very serious and bold statement; if you do become a stumbling to the community or to one of your brothers or sisters, it would be better for you to put a mill stone made from Granite. In other words, to cause someone to sin or encouraging someone to sin or leading a brother or sister to sin, is an extremely serious sin. Serious enough for you to hang a millstone of granite on your neck and drown. How do we cause others to sin? 1. By example, we might cause others to sin. We do things, that for us as adults might be misunderstood become a stumbling block to our own family or even worse, to strangers. We ourselves and those dear brothers or strangers that see us and take example of our action saying, “If the Rabbi or the Pastor can do this I can also do it.” 2. We might teach people that it is o.k. to do something that is forbidden in the word of God and say that now because we are living in a modern world it is O.K., to do what the Word of God expressly forbids. This is a very common sin of many pastors that teach their flock to ignore the commandments of God, even the commandments of Yeshua and the Apostles, and twist the teachings of the Apostles by on the one hand, allowing what is forbidden and on the other hand forbidding what is allowed. The celebration of the Passover is a good example. Jews and non-Jews were commanded to celebrate the Passover in 1 Corinthians 5:6-8, but the Christian churches since the end of the 4th Century have forbidden the celebration of the Passover and all the other feasts holidays that Yeshua and the apostles kept. Here is the text from 1 Corinthians 5:7-8, “Therefore purge out the old leaven, that you may be a new lump, since you truly are unleavened. For indeed Christ, our Passover, was sacrificed for us. Therefore, let us keep the feast, not with old leaven, nor with the leaven of malice and wickedness, but with the unleavened bread of sincerity and truth.” The Christian Church beginning with the middle of the 4th Century actually discouraged and instructed the Christians that celebration of Biblical Feasts is forbidden. The second issue that our text from Luke 17 brings is the duty that we have to forgive those who sin against us. “Take heed to yourselves. If your brother sins against you, rebuke him; and if he repents, forgive him. And if he sins against you seven times in a day, and seven times in a day returns to you, saying, “I repent,’ you shall forgive him.”” (Luke 17:3–4 NKJV) I realize that this is a very hard commandment to keep when you are angry with someone who has sinned against you. But I also realize how important this commandment of our Lord is for our own mental health and spirituality. If we don’t forgive those who have sinned against us, we endanger the possibility that God is going to forgive us. We pray this Lord’s Prayer every Shabbat in our congregation and it says as clear as a bell “Forgive us AS we forgive our debtors…”. Joseph’s brothers sinned against their brother just about every horrible sin possible between humans and especially between brothers. There is no wonder that they were so afraid when Joseph revealed himself to them saying: “I am Joseph your brother!” In the very end of the book of Genesis, the story of hate between brothers received this totally unexpected twist – The brothers feel their guilt and are willing to pay the price for their horrible sins against their brother Joseph, and Joseph says these words: “Then his brothers also went and fell down before his face, and they said, “Behold, we are your slaves.” Joseph said to them, “Do not be afraid, for am I in the place of God? But as for you, you meant evil against me; but God meant it for good, in order to bring it about as it is this day, to save many people alive. Now therefore, do not be afraid; I will provide for you and your little ones.” And he comforted them and spoke kindly to them.” (Genesis 50:18–21 NKJV) The next thing that our text from Luke 17:5-6 is teaching us is the power that our faith has! “And the apostles said to the Lord, “Increase our faith.” So the Lord said, “If you have faith as a mustard seed, you can say to this mulberry tree, ‘Be pulled up by the roots and be planted in the sea,’ and it would obey you. And which of you, having a servant plowing or tending sheep, will say to him when he has come in from the field, “Come at once and sit down to eat’?” (Luke 17:5–7 NKJV) This text is a bit different for us to understand because we mix two or even three texts that use the mustard seed and we imagine that if we have little faith, like the mustard seed is little, we can move mountains and move trees and command them to jump into the sea. This wrong teaching taught people (even famous pastors and professors of Bible) what is not true: that the mustard seed is the smallest seed in the garden. The fact that there is a text that the mustard seed is the smallest seed is also not true in Luke 17: 5-7. The mustard seed has a much more prominent quality; it is hot, spicy, savory. It is a strong seed with strong taste. This is the kind of faith that Yeshua was promoting. Not the faith that seats in the congregation singing and clapping hands and thinks that God will do things in our favor and, get by with it. This is the kind of faith the Yeshua had and His disciples were to commanded to have. The third thing that our New Testament portion of reading on this Shabbat, is the insufficiency of works. The fact that doing works and keeping commandments is not sufficient is not a New Testament teaching. It is the whole Bible teaching and especially the flag-ship doctrine of all the classical prophets, and of course in the New Testament.. The most famous and powerful statement that teaches us that just doing worship and keeping commandments is not sufficient or even pleasing to God, if it is not accompanied with true faith and relationship and intention and our hearts. Being pure and focused on our relationship with God is much more than our rituals and celebrations is from Isaiah: ““To what purpose is the multitude of your sacrifices to Me?” Says the LORD. “I have had enough of burnt offerings of rams and the fat of fed cattle. I do not delight in the blood of bulls, or of lambs or goats. “When you come to appear before Me, who has required this from your hand, to trample My courts? Bring no more futile sacrifices; incense is an abomination to Me. The New Moons, the Sabbaths, and the calling of assemblies— I cannot endure iniquity and the sacred meeting. Your New Moons and your appointed feasts My soul hates; They are a trouble to Me; I am weary of bearing them. When you spread out your hands, I will hide My eyes from you; even though you make many prayers, I will not hear. Your hands are full of blood. “Wash yourselves, make yourselves clean; Put away the evil of your doings from before My eyes. Cease to do evil, learn to do good; Seek justice, rebuke the oppressor; defend the fatherless, plead for the widow. “Come now, and let us reason together,” Says the LORD, “Though your sins are like scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; Though they are red like crimson, they shall be as wool. If you are willing and obedient, you shall eat the good of the land; but if you refuse and rebel, you shall be devoured by the sword. For the mouth of the LORD has spoken.” (Isaiah 1:11–20 NKJV) There are so many other places and texts in the prophets that teach the same and we have the Apostle Paul’s speech in the High Court of Athens, Greece, that says the same thing. With this I will end this teaching from this Shabbat’s reading in our synagogue, The Roeh Israel Synagogue of Jewish Disciples of Yeshua, and their brothers and friends from around the world. “Then Paul stood in the midst of the Areopagus and said, “Men of Athens, I perceive that in all things you are very religious; for as I was passing through and considering the objects of your worship, I even found an altar with this inscription: TO THE UNKNOWN GOD. Therefore, the One whom you worship without knowing Him, I proclaim to you: God, who made the world and everything in it, since He is Lord of heaven and earth, does not dwell in temples made with hands. Nor is He worshiped with men’s hands, as though He needed anything, since He gives to all life, breath, and all things. And He has made from one blood every nation of men to dwell on all the face of the earth, and has determined their pre-appointed times and the boundaries of their dwellings, so that they should seek the Lord, in the hope that they might grope for Him and find Him, though He is not far from each one of us; for in Him we live and move and have our being, as also some of your own poets have said, “For we are also His offspring.’ Therefore, since we are the offspring of God, we ought not to think that the Divine Nature is like gold or silver or stone, something shaped by art and man’s devising. Truly, these times of ignorance God overlooked, but now commands all men everywhere to repent, because He has appointed a day on which He will judge the world in righteousness by the Man whom He has ordained. He has given assurance of this to all by raising Him from the dead.”” (Acts 17:22–31 NKJV) In conclusion this is what really matters the most: “He who has clean hands and a pure heart, who has not lifted up his soul to an idol, nor sworn deceitfully. “He shall receive blessing from the LORD, And righteousness from the God of his salvation.” Psalms 24:4-5 “Now the purpose of the commandment is love from a pure heart, from a good conscience, and from sincere faith…” 1 Timothy 1:5 “Flee also youthful lusts; but pursue righteousness, faith, love, peace with those who call on the Lord out of a pure heart.” 2 Timothy 2:22.

Pray for the congregations related to Netivyah in Brazil, to have the strength and stamina to face the challenges in front of them with courage and strength of faithfulness to the Lord, and to the vision of the restoration of the church and Israel.
Pray for the millions of victims of the Spanish and Portuguese Inquisition who have been forced to convert to the Catholic church, and now want to return home to the land of Israel and to the faith of our fathers.
Pray for the state of Israel to open the doors for these lost Jews to be able to return and fulfill God’s promises to the prophet Ovadyah:
“But on Mount Zion there shall be deliverance, And there shall be holiness; The house of Jacob shall possess their possessions. The house of Jacob shall be a fire, And the house of Joseph a flame; But the house of Esau shall be stubble; They shall kindle them and devour them, And no survivor shall remain of the house of Esau, For the Lord has spoken. The South shall possess the mountains of Esau, And the Lowland shall possess Philistia. They shall possess the fields of Ephraim And the fields of Samaria. Benjamin shall possess Gilead. Pray for Ruby Little, our dear and faithful sister who has cancer and has stopped receiving medical treatment for the cancer that she has. Please pray for Ruby that the Lord will heal and strengthen her and provide for all her needs both medically and socially.
Aaron Hook, Nancy Hook’s oldest son, needs our prayers for wisdom and healing from past issues of life.
Lift for blessing and healing Jonathan B. and his wife Aviva and their new baby, his mother, and his brother Daniel. Pray for these very important men of God: Rabbi Salt, his family, and Rabbi Hasselblad. They are both older and need protection and blessings.
Pray a blessing for a dear sister Angela Isby and her situation. Pray for Tiz H. and Lion H.
Also pray for Ilana Avramov who is married to my cousin Nissim and lives in New York City. Ilana has fallen and in now in rehab learning how to walk again. We pray for her full recovery. She and Nissim both need our prayers.
Joseph Mock, a young man in his 30s, a dear brother that was named after me, has leukemia in an advanced stage. He is in the hospital and needs our urgent prayers. Joseph Mock is the son of Steve Mock, who is also one of the faithful disciples of Yeshua who became a believer in the early years of Netivyah.
Steve Mock is also in need of our prayers. He had a massive stroke and now he cannot speak, and has other limitations. Please keep Steve Mock also in your prayers, and pray for his wife Josse for strength and blessings and good health.
Pray for three women of God in Canada who need healing, Lynda, Sandy and Joanne.
Please pray for Netivyah and for the good work that Netivyah is doing in Israel and around the world.
We need more workers because of the challenges and needs and opportunities to bless the King Yeshua and His Kingdom down here on Earth and bless the poor people of Jerusalem visit here do what they can and produce more materials, books, and magazines.
We ask you to join us in prayer that the right young people, talented and anointed by the Spirit of God will come and work with us, and the provision to pay the Netivyah workers a fair and just payment.
I pray that the Lord will inspire and motivate brothers and sisters and ministries who can help with this to visit here do what they can to make it possible for us to double or more than double, the number of people and families that we serve.
