코로나바이러스가 전 세계에 걸쳐 맹위를 떨치고 있습니다. 사실 1차 때는 이스라엘이 코로나바이러스 확산을 잘 통제할 수 있는 나라들 중 하나였습니다. 정부는 4월에 이미 엄격한 폐쇄를 완화했는데 6월이 되자 코로나바이러스는 앙갚음으로 다시 돌아왔습니다.
지난 몇 주 동안 신규 확진자수는 3,200명 이상으로 증가했고 사망자수도 1,000명이 넘었습니다. 대중은 이 상황을 효과적으로 관리하는 정부의 능력에 대한 신뢰를 잃었습니다. 세계 대부분에 영향을 미치는 팬데믹 문제 외에도 저희는 18개월 새 네 번째 선거를 하게 될지도 모를 다른 문제들도 있습니다. 이스라엘의 정서는 우리가 무너져 내리고 있는 것 같다는 것입니다. 이스라엘에서 유일하게 신뢰할만한 부분은 군대와 군인들입니다. 그들은 하나가 되어 있고 관료들이 허락하는 한 코로나바이러스 관리를 돕고 있습니다. 세계는 메시아의 몸이 우리가 살고 있는 이 온 세상을 위해 진지하게 중보하는 것이 필요합니다. 이 팬데믹은 마귀의 역사가 아닌, 하나님의 역사입니다. 성경에는 염병이 수많이 많고 그것들 하나하나가 하나님의 역사였고, 심지어 노아의 홍수도 하나님의 역사였습니다. 메시아의 몸인 우리는, 주님께서 이스라엘을 멸하고 모세로부터 새로운 나라를 시작하고자 하셨을 때 모세가 이스라엘을 위해 중보한 것처럼, 우리가 살고 있는 세상을 위해 중보해야 합니다. 이번 안식일에 읽는 말씀은 신명기 29:10(9)~30:20입니다. 파라샤 이름은 니짜빔 - “우리가 곧고 굳게 서서”입니다. 선지자의 글에서는 이사야 61:10~63:9를 읽습니다. 이번 안식일에 읽는 모든 말씀이 아주 중요합니다. 사실 안식일에 읽는 말씀을 보면서 저는 아주 많이 의사선생님이 쓴 처방전 같다고 봅니다. 그 약은 나라들의 치유를 위한 것인데, 특별히 이스라엘을 위한 것입니다. 신약성경에서 읽는 말씀은 로마서 10:1-13입니다. 이번 주에 읽는 “니짜빔”의 첫 구절은 개인적으로 제게 영적 빛을 줍니다. “오늘 너희 곧 너희의 수령과 너희의 지파와 너희의 장로들과 너희의 지도자와 이스라엘 모든 남자와 너희의 유아들과 너희의 아내와 및 네 진중에 있는 객과 너를 위하여 나무를 패는 자로부터 물 긷는 자까지 다 너희의 하나님 여호와 앞에 서 있는 것은 네 하나님 여호와의 언약에 참여하며 또 네 하나님 여호와께서 오늘 네게 하시는 맹세에 참여하여” – 신명기 29:10-12 제가 왜 이 본문 공중 낭독에 깊이 감명받느냐고요? 그 이유는 시내광야에서 태어나고 하늘에서 내린 만나를 먹고 반석에서 솟아난 물을 마신 이 세대가 그 여정에 이스라엘에 가담하여 약속의 땅에 들어가 그것을 유업으로 받을 이스라엘인이 아닌 객들과, 그들에게 말하고 있으나 그 땅에 들어가지는 않을 모세를 포함하여 이제 민족이라는 한 연합체로 주님 앞에 서도록 초청되었기 때문입니다. 주님께서는 그곳에 모인 모든 사람들에게 말씀하시며 그들에게 오늘 ... 주 너희 하나님과의 언약에 참여하라고 청하고 계십니다! 이 본문을 읽는 대부분의 사람들은 토라의 이 본문의 가장 중요한 점을 놓칩니다. 이렇게 한 사람으로 모인 이스라엘의 모든 사람들은 그대로 하나된 채로 있으면서, 거의 40년 동안 함께 길을 가며 만나와 메추라기를 먹고 반석에서 솟아난 물을 마시며 하나님에 의해 한 민족으로 연합되어 함께 시내광야를 건너고 함께 싸우고 각자의 금과 장신구를 드림으로 광야에서 성막을 세우는 기회가 있었던 한 민족으로 하나님과의 언약에 참여하도록 청함을 받았습니다. 지금 그들은 모두 여리고 맞은편 요단강 건너편에 서서 들으며 이스라엘 민족의 일원이 되기로 약속하는 이 기회에 참여하라고 청함을 받았습니다. 모세의 입을 통한 주님의 이 초청은 그 날 그곳에 모인 모든 이들에게 이스라엘 민족과 하나가 되라는 초청입니다. 이 본문 말씀이 저를 지금 아주 흥분시키는 이유 중 하나는 미국에서 일어나고 있는 끔찍한 일들과, 속이 뒤집힐만한 이유가 있는 중요한 한 소수 그룹의 폭력적이고 파괴적인 행동 때문입니다. 어쨌든 이 소수 그룹이 권위와 힘을 남용하여 살인을 저지른 몇몇 경찰관들의 학대행위에 대해 속이 뒤집힐만한 이유가 있을지 모르겠으나, 한 가지 잘못이든 천 가지 잘못이든 권력 남용이든 지금 계속되고 있는 폭력, 약탈, 방화, 살인을 정당화하지는 못하며, 무엇보다 이런 것들은 인종차별주의를 종식시키기는커녕 오히려 영구화하는 그 슬로건들도 정당화하지 못합니다. 모든 사람의 생명이 중요하지만, 비유적으로 말하자면, 우리가 모두 각자의 커피를 어떻게 마시느냐가 훨씬 더 중요합니다. 어떤 사람들은 커피를 우유나 설탕 없이 블랙으로 마십니다. 어떤 사람들은 우유를 넣어 마시는데, 그러면 그것은 이제 블랙이 아니고 갈색입니다. 또 어떤 사람들은 커피를 마시지 않고 흰 우유만 마십니다. 커피와 우유를 마시는 이 사람들 중 한 명은 그가 무엇을 어떻게 마신다는 이유로 차별을 받아야 할까요? 우리는 하나님 아래서 한 나라로 하나 됨과 번영을 가진, 함께 미국의 미래를 공유하게 되어있는 한 가지 숙명을 가진 한 국민입니다. 스스로 합의에서 빠져나와 스스로를 온전하고 연합된 나라 밖에 두는 사람들은 미래에 자기 자신에게 곤란을 초래할 것입니다. 여러분이 지금 뿌린 씨는 미래에 자라납니다. 독이 든 씨가 심겨지면 독 나무가 자라 성숙해집니다. 그리고 이 나무들의 열매는 나무가 좋을 경우에만 좋을 것입니다. 나무는 심겨진 씨가 좋을 경우에만 좋을 것입니다! 우리 모두 좋은 씨를 심어 우리 자녀와 손주들에게 그들을 지탱시키고 그들을 주님 안에 지켜줄 좋은 열매가 있도록 조심합니다. 이번 안식일에 선지자의 글에서 읽을 이사야 61:10~63:9도 예슈아의 모든 제자에게 아주 중요합니다. 이사야 62장은 이스라엘에 있는 저희에게 특히 중요하지만, 전 세계 모든 기독교인들에게도 필수적으로 중요합니다. 62장에는 모든 기독교인에게 도전이 되는 것이 있습니다. 그 도전은 하나님께서 이스라엘에게 하시고, 이스라엘의 소망과 미래와 이사야와 다른 선지자들이 기술한 그들의 정체성과 연관된 전 세계 비-유대인에게 하신 약속들을 이루는 것입니다. 이 말씀들을 읽고 묵상하시고 성령님께서 여러분에게 이 하나님의 말씀을 앞당기시고 여러분으로 하여금 신명기와 이사야와 사도 바울의 이 말씀들을 여러분 스스로 음미할 수 있게 도와주시도록 기도하시기 바랍니다.
우리는 전 세계와 각자의 나라를 위해 그리고 거기에 이스라엘을 추가하여 기도해야 합니다. 저는 이 코로나바이러스가 이스라엘을 훈육하여 그들이 하나님과 더 좋은 관계로 회복되고 그들의 창조주를 더 존경하도록 하나님께서 보내셨던 성경의 다른 모든 염병 같은 전염병이라고 믿습니다.
이스라엘이 회개했을 때나 모세가 들어 올렸던 놋뱀을 바라보았을 때, 그들은 치유 받았습니다. 물론, 우리는 모세 때처럼 놋뱀이 필요하지는 않지만, 우리의 눈을 들어 그 무엇도 아닌 우리 주 예슈아께 초점을 맞출 필요가 있습니다.
이것이 의미하는 것은 우리의 믿음을, 메시아의 몸을 분열시켰고 또 다시 분열되었으며 우리의 믿음의 중심을 십자가에 달리신 분으로부터 교회 제도로 돌려버린 교파가 아닌, 메시아의 복음에 다시 맞추라는 것입니다.
저는 하나님의 말씀에 나타난 다른 모든 전염병과 마찬가지로 이 전염병도 하나님으로부터 왔고 하나님에 의해 멈춰질 수 있다고 믿습니다.
우리 영적 지도자들이 우리를 회개로, 죄와 허물을 고백하는 데로 이끌고 지적하여, 주님께서 이 코로나바이러스를 이 땅에서 거두시고 우리가 주님을 기억하며 그분의 의와 진리의 길로 걸어가게 하도록 우리 모두 기도하며 격려합시다.
마르시아의 건강과 기억력과 당뇨와 류마티스 관절염을 위해 계속 기도해 주시기 바랍니다. 저희 딸 다나는 지금 처한 상황 때문에 여러분의 기도가 많이 필요하고, 저희 손녀 노아암도 그렇습니다. 여러분의 기도 가운데 다나와 노아암을 올려드려 주십시오. 역시 이 시기에 집에 있으면서 재택근무하고 있는 저희 아들 배리와 그의 가족 베쓰와 저희 손자 죠이도 올려드려 주십시오. 마르시아의 친정어머니 준은 91세시며 건강이 나빠지고 있습니다.

The Jerusalem Prayer List – September 10, 2020

The coronavirus is raging through the world. In the first round Israel was one of the better countries that was able to have good control over the spread of the coronavirus. In April already the government loosened the tight closure and by June the coronavirus returned with vengeance.
In the last few weeks the numbers have climbed to over 3200 new cases and the number of the dead has climbed to over 1000. The public has lost trust in the ability of the government to administer the situation effectively. In addition to the pandemic problems that affect most of the world we have additional problems that might result in a fourth election in 18 months. The feeling in Israel is that we are falling apart. The only trustworthy part of Israel is our army and soldiers. They are united and helping with the coronavirus administration as much as the bureaucrats allow them. The world needs the body of the Messiah to provide serious intercession for our world, the whole world. This pandemic is a work of God not a work of the devil. The plagues in the Bible are numerous and every one of them was the work of God, even Noah’s flood was the work of God. We, the body of the Messiah, must intercede for our world the way that Moses interceded for Israel when the Lord wanted to destroy them and start a new nation from Moses. The reading this Shabbat is from Deuteronomy 29:10 (9) – 30:20. The name of the Parasha is Nitsavim - “We are standing straight and firm.” From the Prophets we are reading from Isaiah 61:10 – 63:9. All of the reading on this Shabbat is of great importance. In fact looking at the reading for Shabbat I see so much that is like a prescription for medication written by the master doctor. The medication is for a healing of nations and especially for Israel. From the New Testament the reading is from Romans 10:1-13. The first verse of this reading of Nitzavim provides a spiritual light for me personally. “All of you stand today before the Lord your God: your leaders and your tribes and your elders and your officers, all the men of Israel, your little ones and your wives—also the stranger who is in your camp, from the one who cuts your wood to the one who draws your water— that you may enter into covenant with the Lord your God, and into His oath, which the Lord your God makes with you today.” – Deuteronomy. 29:10-12 [NKJV] Why am I always deeply touched by the public reading of this text? The reason is because this generation that was born in the Sinai wilderness, that was fed manna from heaven, that drank water from the Rock, is now invited to stand before the Lord as one united body of people, including the strangers who are not Israelites (Gentiles) who have joined Israel for the journey and will enter the land of promise and inherit it, and Moses that is talking to them and who will not enter the land. The Lord is addressing all of the people gathered there and is inviting them to enter a covenant with the Lord your God. . . today! Most people that read this text miss the most important point of this text in the Torah. This gathering of all of the people of Israel as one man, is invited to stay united and to enter the covenant with God as one people, united by the circumstance of tracking together nearly 40 years, and eating the manna, and the quail, and drinking the water from the rock as one people, one nation united by God, having the joint experience of crossing the Sinai desert together, fighting the wars together, having the opportunity, through the giving of their gold and jewelry, to participate in the building of the Tabernacle in the wilderness. Now they are all invited to take part on this occasion, of standing across the Jordan River opposite Jericho and hearing and committing to be a part of the nation of Israel. The invitation of the Lord from the mouth of Moses is an invitation for all those gathered there on that day to become one with the nation of Israel. One of the reasons that this text excites me so much now is the terrible things that are happening in the United States and the violent and destructive behavior of one important minority that has good reason to be upset. However, there may be good reasons for this minority to be upset over the abusive behavior of several policemen that have abused their authority and power and have committed murder, but one wrong and even a thousand wrongs and abuses of power do not justify the violence, looting, burning and killing that is going on, and above all they do not justify the slogans that are not bringing an end to racism, but perpetuating it. The life of every person is important, but even more important, figuratively speaking, is how we all drink our coffee. There are some that drink their coffee black, no milk and no sugar. Others drink their coffee with milk and it is not black now, it is brown, and some don’t drink coffee and only drink white milk. Shall one of these coffee and milk drinkers be discriminated against for what and how he drinks? We are one people with one destiny, bound to share the future of the United States together, with unity and prosperity as one nation under God. Those who take themselves out of the consensus, and place themselves out of the whole and the united nation, will cause themselves trouble in the future. The seeds that you plant now will grow in the future and if poisoned seeds are planted poison trees will grow and mature, and the fruits of these trees will be good only if the tree is good. The tree will be good only if the seed that was planted is good! Let us all take care to plant good seed so that our children and grandchildren will have good fruit to sustain them and keep them in the Lord. The portion of reading this Shabbat from Isaiah the prophet chapter 61:10 – 63:9 is also very important for every disciple of Yeshua. Chapter 62 of Isaiah is of special importance for us in Israel, but is also of essential importance for all Christians throughout the world. There is a challenge for every Christian in chapter 62. The challenge is to fulfill the promises of God to Israel and to those non-Jews around the world who are connected with Israel’s hope and Israel’s future, and with their identity as described by Isaiah and by the other prophets. Read and meditate on these texts and pray for the Holy Spirit to quicken to you these words of God and to help you to appropriate these words from Deuteronomy and Isaiah and the apostle Paul, for yourselves.
We must pray for the whole world and each of us for his own country and to add Israel. I believe that this coronavirus is a plague like all the biblical plagues that God sent to educate Israel and restore them to a better relationship with Him, and to have greater respect for their creator.
When Israel repented or looked at the brass snake that Moses lifted up, they received healing. Of course, we don’t need a brass serpent like in the days of Moses, but we do need to lift up our eyes and focus on Yeshua our Lord and on nothing else.
What this means is that there is need for a refocusing of our faith onto the gospel of the Messiah and not on the denominations that have divided, and divided again, the body of the Messiah, and have diverted the focus of our faith from the one that was crucified to the institution of the church.
I believe that this plague like every other plague in the word of God comes from God and can be stopped by God.
Let us all pray and encourage our spiritual leaders to lead and to point us toward repentance and to confession of our sins and weaknesses, so that the Lord will lift this coronavirus from off of this earth and we will remember the Lord and seek to walk in His paths of righteousness and truth.
Please keep praying for Marcia’s health, her memory, diabetes, and rheumatoid arthritis. Danah our daughter, needs much prayer for her situation and so does our granddaughter Noaam. Please lift Danah and Noaam in your prayers. Please lift Barry our son and his family, Beth, and Joey our grandson who are also staying at home and working from home during this time. Marcia’s mother June is 91 years old and her health is failing.
Brazil is in bad shape with the coronavirus and the problems of the business community, and the social unrest is also a major challenge. We have so many brothers and sisters in Brazil that need our prayers and intercession on their behalf.
Here is a short list of communities and brothers and sisters in Brazil who need our prayers and God’s grace in these hard times: Pray for the sister communities of Netivyah in Brazil, Har Zion, Ensenando de Siao, and Sar-El in Curitiba and other brothers and sisters in the city of Curitiba.
There is another congregation of brothers and sisters in Curitiba led by brother Claus and brother Moses, please pray for these dear brothers also and for the Messianic congregations in Fortaleza, Santa Maria, Sao Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, and in other cities in Brazil. Pray for our dear older and more vulnerable brothers and partners in Brazil, Michelle O., the Marcelo Guimaraes family and especially for his father, Paulo, and for Marty Galanten for the Resende family.
I am also asking you to pray for TJ who is the pastor of the congregation in Taiwan.
Keep Ruby Little in your prayers, our dear sister from Oklahoma City, who is also battling against cancer. Lift up in prayer the following brothers and sisters:
Samuel Lopes, a 17-year-old boy, who is going through an extremely hard time. His father and mother are extremely upset that He is not walking with the Lord and I just heard from his father the he has joined with friends who are far from the paths of righteousness.
Pray for Rachael and Daniel, a brother and sister who need jobs and emotional healing.
Lift these brothers and sisters in your prayers: Angela Isby, Aries Franklin Mayers Sr., and Tony Black. Keep praying for Nancy, Don and their son Aaron Hook, Rachel David Kim’s wife – Jingyung Lee, Dr. Yuizawa, Tiz H., Lion H., Michael Schiffman, Joe Mays, Ilana Abramov, Cynthia Parveen’s sister, David Stern and his family, and Anne West who is now 100 years old. Keep praying for Gary, and Melanie.
Remember the following brothers and sisters from the Roeh Israel Congregation in Jerusalem; Sarit, Gabriela, Ahuva, Leah, Ilana, Hannah, young Gabriela, Zvi D. and Bathsheba, Jonathan B. and his wife Aviva and their baby, and pray for Sister Yoko Nagumo in Japan. Sister Yoko had a stroke and we pray that her recovery will be quick and complete.
From Chennai, India, please remember Pastor Isaac. From Hong Kong, remember all of Hong Kong during these days of several different kinds of viruses and the coronavirus. Remember Tony and Louisa Tam, and our brothers and sisters at the 611 Church, and the other churches who love God and love Israel in that great city.
Just a word of grace before the mercy seat of the Almighty will be heard in favor of these brothers and Um Mahmud Abu-Eid and Jimmy Abu-Eid and his family, Keijo and Salme our dear brothers in Finland, Tim Tucker, Satu-Maria, Sinni Tuuli. Our brother in Finland Erki Murto is gone. Erki passed from this world a few days ago. Please let us keep Sirpa, Erki’s widow in our prayer.
May the Lord comfort her and consul her in these hours of sorrow and grief. Also pray for our other brothers and sisters in Finland who need our prayers, Evelina, and Eva H., Patty, Andrea, Julia and Victor, and Aaron Tani, and Hillel and his wife.
Around the whole world, we pray for Zhou Wenrian, and the Abe family, for Toru, Takeo Sensei, Daisuke Sensei, Tomoko San, Yumi and her father Pastor Ohara, George, and Pastor Isaac in Chennai, India, and for Louisa, and Tony in Hong Kong.
I have just received a prayer request from a dear sister from Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Her father who is 70 years old and diabetic has contracted the COVID-19 virus. His name is Paulo C. Pereira Braga Dias. He is in the hospital and his condition is very challenging. Please join us in lifting Paulo C. Pereira Braga Dias in your prayers.
Please see your prayer as casting a vote for healing before the Lord and His angels in Heaven in favor of every brother and sister that you are praying for. Just a word of grace for all of us is a refreshing spirit. Take your prayers before the mercy seat of the Almighty to be heard in favor of those that you are lifting in prayer.
Please add to your prayers the family of Um Mahmud Abu-Eid and Jimmy their son. I believe that this is a good thing for us to pray for friends and acquaintances who are Muslims. It is an act of love and reconciliation to carry before the throne of mercy those dear people who are seeking peace and righteousness looking toward the Lord for mercy and healing.
I am adding to the prayer list the daughter of one of my important university professors, Allison Howard Williams, she is the daughter of Patsy Wilkerson Howard, and Dr. George Howard who was one of my favorite and most important Bible teachers.
Keep praying for Guilherme Antonio Nathan Becker and his wife Artuza de Oliviera, also add Rachael and Daniel Webster and Lizette Nancy, and Jose Carlos from Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
By praying for people who are your brothers and sisters, and whom you do not know personally, you are exercising the right to be God’s ambassador in what is called “agape love.” “Agape love” is the highest form of love, a love that does not look for earthly rewards or give and take, but just does the service of intercession in the kingdom of God.
You will be blessed by the almighty God who gives each of His children good for the good we do and recompense for the bad we do. Your sincere prayers for people around the world do the following things for the Kingdom, the King, and for the body of the Messiah:
1. They unite you and the body in a major transcendent bond of prayer.
2. They demonstrate the oneness of the people of God.
3. Your prayer shows that there are people outside the realm of the physical world and personal interests who have a sincere bond and relationship that is heavenly and not earthly.
4. The Lord knows His children and gives credit and reward according to His promises.
We have brothers and sisters in Israel and in China and I ask you to pray for their safety and protection: Deborah Ruth, Lydia, Sima, Laurel S., Naomi, Orna, David S., Daniel, Dalia D., Ayla, Hillel, Elhanan, Tony, Dr. Song, and his wife Sister Harriet Kim, Michael Knezevich, Ismael Alves, Asher Gabriel, M. Ahuva. Please pray for a dear brother who is well into his 90’s and lost his wife a couple of weeks ago. His name is Dov H.
Pray for Israel. We are going through terrible riots and violence in the streets of Jerusalem and Tel-Aviv and other places around the country. These riots are motivated by the fact that much of the populace of Israel does not understand what the government is doing in relationship to the coronavirus pandemic.
Businesses are closing and bankruptcy is happening to old established companies and businesses and even our national airline is on the verge of bankruptcy. People do not have money to put food on their tables. The number of people in need of basic food is growing.
Netivyah has been feeding the poor of Jerusalem for more than 25 years and we have a highly appreciated humanitarian ministry that is working with the Jerusalem municipality. As the demands for food for people who never before needed such help grows, I pray that the Lord will inspire and motivate brothers and sisters and ministries who can help with this to go to the webpage: www.netivyah.org and do what they can to make it possible for us to double or more than double, the number of people and families that we serve.
Our prime minister’s case is still before the courts. I am not happy that this is happening in Israel, but I am praying that true justice and righteousness is exhibited in our court system. The truth must come out and I am not interested in a second prime minister of Israel going to jail. We have had a president in jail, a finance minister in jail, a minister of interior affairs in jail, and a member of the parliament in jail. Enough!

Anarchist elements have taken the center of Portland, OR, and turned it into chaos, and disorder. So, please pray for Portland, OR, and for our brothers and sisters in that city.
The coronavirus is threatening the economy of the world with a great recession and depression. Some of our major supporters have already lowered the amount of their support. They have done this not only toward Netivyah, but for all the ministries that they are supporting, and they are many. I would like to first ask you to pray about your part in supporting Netivyah Bible Instruction Ministry.
Second, I would like for you who stand with us in prayer and financially to do your absolute best to stay on board with us and communicate. We realize that times will be hard for several years, but we also realize that God has chosen and blessed you for such a time as this.
Third please pray for a new project that we are starting in Israel in partnership with the Houses for Healing ministry from Abilene, Texas.
The aim is to provide hospitality for families of critically ill patients who are hospitalized in one of Jerusalem’s hospitals and who have no means to stay in hotels while their family members are in the hospitals.
This is a critical need especially in these days when there are hundreds of men and women who are in the Coronavirus ICU units for weeks and even months.
We have a couple who is coming from Switzerland to be the house parents of the first such apartment in Jerusalem. The social workers of the hospitals in Jerusalem are so excited by this effort in which our brothers in the USA and the Netivyah staff are partnering to be the first such ministry in Israel.
We need your prayer and your help to make this a meaningful and significant blessing both to the sick and to their families.
I wish all of you, who stand with Israel and who pray for Jerusalem, the best of the Lord’s blessings and the fulfillment of all His promises to His faithful children. Those who hear God and do His will are the ones who are called wise! Those who only hear His word and don’t do it are called foolish! Let us all strive to be wise and never foolish! The best is yet to come!
