“나는 삶이 명랑하고 오, 그토록 풋풋하던 9월의 날들을 기억할 수 있으리라.”
이 9월은 결코 명랑하거나 풋풋하지 않습니다. 세상은 전 세계적으로 수십만 명의 목숨을 앗아간 코로나바이러스라는 살인자와 싸우고 있습니다. 이 바이러스의 과제는 이것이 어떻게 작용하고 어떻게 사람들에게 감염되는지 알아내는 것입니다. 이스라엘의 뛰어난 과학자들과 의학자들이 이 바이러스가 정확히 어떻게 행동하는지 규명하기 위해 열심히 일해 왔습니다. 전 세계적으로 백신 개발에 진전이 좀 있습니다. 이스라엘은 2021년 가을 쯤에는 효과 있는 백신이 나올 희망이 있다고 말하고 있습니다. 네, 아직 적어도 1년은 더 있어야 합니다. 많은 이들이 참을성 있게 기다릴 수가 없는 것은, 사업체들과 대기업들이 문을 닫고 있기 때문입니다. 백 년 넘게 존속하며 사업하고 서비스해왔으나 문 닫고 있는 다국적 기업들도 있습니다. 브룩스 브라더스 같은 회사들도 문을 닫았고 다시 사업을 재개하지 않을 것입니다. 고급 소매 아웃렛 대기업 나이만 마르쿠스도 많은 지점이 문을 닫았습니다. 전 세계가 코로나바이러스의 건강상의 영향뿐만 아니라, 경제 및 노동시장에 끼친 영향에 대처하고 있습니다. 일자리를 잃고 고정 수입이 없어진 사람들이 수백만 명입니다. 가정들은 문자 그대로 냉장고에 식료품이 없습니다. 이스라엘에도 굶주리는 가정들이 있습니다. 네티비야에 수백 명을 먹이는 하모찌 식료품배급프로그램이 있어서 좋습니다. 네티비야에서 식료품을 받는 사람들은 모든 공동체에서 오는데요, 정통유대교 및 극정통유대교 유대인들도 있고, 에티오피아계 이민자들, 러시아계 이민자들, 중동 유대인들도 있고, 예루살렘 올드 시티의 아랍 가정도 몇 가정 있습니다. 배급되는 식료품들은 그저 놀랍습니다. 저는 방금 전 부대표 예후다 바카나가 저희 식료품배급을 위해 네티비야 건물 옥상에서 이루고 있는 일을 보러 네티비야에 다녀왔습니다. 제가 저희 자원봉사자들과 네티비야 스텝들이 하모찌 식료품배급프로그램으로 하고 있는 일들을 볼 때마다 저는 놀라고 헌금을 보내주시는 모든 형제자매님들께 감사한 마음이 차오릅니다. 저희에게 매주 그저 몇 달러씩, 보통 10달러도 안 되는 금액을 헌금하시는 분들이 계십니다. 정기적으로 그 보다 더 헌금하시는 분들도 계십니다. 저는 이 모든 분들이, 하나도 예외 없이, 각각의 헌금이 얼마든 상관없이, 저희와 식료품을 받는 이들에게 격려가 되는 분들이라고 생각합니다. 오늘 한 여자 분이 닭 한 마리를 통째로 원하셨습니다. 보통 대부분의 사람들은 닭다리, 가슴살, 날개 등 서로 다른 부위를 원합니다. 대형 냉동고에는 닭고기와, 여러 종류의 냉동 쇠고기, 냉동 생선이 가득합니다. 건 곡물, 콘플레이크, 아이들이 좋아하는 여러 종류의 시리얼도 수백 상자 있습니다. 선반에는 쌀, 기름, 여러 종류의 면, 설탕, 밀가루, 허브, 머스터드, 마요네즈 등 모든 것이 가득하고, 슈퍼마켓처럼 온갖 종류의 좋은 제품들이 가득한 선반도 여러 개입니다. 저는 개인적으로 예루살렘의 곤궁한 이들이 그렇게 예우와 품위 있게 받는 것의 품질과 풍성함을 보고 놀라고 기뻤습니다. 네티비야에 있는 저희는 예루살렘 사람들을 섬길 수 있는 것이 영광스럽고 특권이라고 생각합니다. 이것은 바울과 그와 함께 있던 제자들이 1세기에 누렸던 바로 그 특권입니다. 바울이 로마 교회에 뭐라고 말하고 있는지 보십시오: “그러나 이제는 내가 성도를 섬기는 일로 예루살렘에 가노니 이는 마게도냐와 아가야 사람들이 예루살렘 성도 중 가난한 자들을 위하여 기쁘게 얼마를 연보하였음이라 저희가 기뻐서 하였거니와 또한 저희는 그들에게 빚진 자니 만일 이방인들이 그들의 영적인 것을 나눠 가졌으면 육적인 것으로 그들을 섬기는 것이 마땅하니라.” – 로마서 15:25–27 저희 네티비야 역시 예루살렘과 이스라엘 사람들에게 빚진 자로 생각하며 이 일을 기쁘게 합니다. 저희가 예루살렘 사람들에게 빚진 자로 생각하는 것은, 예루살렘 사람들과 유럽 교회들의 관계의 역사가 기독교란 어떤 것인가에 대한 아주 나쁜 인상을 남긴 추한 역사였기 때문입니다. 지금 저희에게는 이 인상을 역전시킬 흔치 않은 기회가 있어, 기쁨과 소망과 많은 사랑으로 이 일을 하고 있습니다. 네티비야 편에 서서 하모찌 프로그램과 학생후원프로그램과 그 외 네티비야 스텝과 로에 이스라엘 회중의 자원봉사자들이 하고 있는 다른 훌륭한 일들을 후원해 주시는 여러분 모두께 감사드립니다. 이번 안식일에 읽는 토라 포션은 신명기 마지막 부분으로 다가가고 있습니다. 이는 큰 명절들이 곧 다가온다는 의미입니다. 토라에서 우리는 신명기 26:1~29:8(9)을 읽습니다. 이 파라샤의 이름은 “키 타보”(“너희가 그 땅에 들어갔을 때”)입니다. 선지자의 글에서 읽는 부분은 이사야 60:1-22이고, 신약성경에서는 사도행전 7:30-36을 읽을 것입니다. 파라샷 “키 타보”에는 우리 모두가 배우고 진지하게 받아들여야 할 아주 중요한 진주들이 좀 있습니다. 이 토라 포션의 첫 부분은 각 가족이 각자의 첫 소산물을 성막(성전)에 가져와 제사장에게 이 첫 소산물을 드릴 때의 절차를 다루고 있습니다. 이것은 일 년에 한 번 오순절(샤부옷) 때 일어나는 일이었습니다. 이 말씀이 중요한 것은 우리에게 처음이자 마지막으로 예배자들이 첫 소산물을 드릴 때 제사장들에게 하는 말이 있다는 것입니다. 이것은 오늘날 우리에게 아주 중요합니다. 우리가 레위기와 신약성경 히브리서에서도 제사에 대해 많이 읽지만, 예배자와 이런 첫 소산물을 받는 제사장 사이에 오가는 대화는 많지 않습니다. 예배자와 제사장 사이의 대화는 이렇습니다: “제사장은 네 손에서 그 광주리를 받아서 네 하나님 여호와의 제단 앞에 놓을 것이며 너는 또 네 하나님 여호와 앞에 아뢰기를 내 조상은 방랑하는 아람 사람으로서 애굽에 내려가 거기에서 소수로 거류하였더니 거기에서 크고 강하고 번성한 민족이 되었는데 애굽 사람이 우리를 학대하며 우리를 괴롭히며 우리에게 중노동을 시키므로 우리가 우리 조상의 하나님 여호와께 부르짖었더니 여호와께서 우리 음성을 들으시고 우리의 고통과 신고와 압제를 보시고 여호와께서 강한 손과 편 팔과 큰 위엄과 이적과 기사로 우리를 애굽에서 인도하여 내시고 이곳으로 인도하사 이 땅 곧 젖과 꿀이 흐르는 땅을 주셨나이다 여호와여 이제 내가 주께서 내게 주신 토지 소산의 맏물을 가져왔나이다 하고 너는 그것을 네 하나님 여호와 앞에 두고 네 하나님 여호와 앞에 경배할 것이며” – 신명기 26:4–10 이 말은 짧지만 과거와 현재의 이스라엘의 이야기의 핵심을 담고 있습니다! 예배자가 제사장들에게 하는 말을 분석해 보겠습니다. 첫째, 우리 조상들의 약점을 고백하고 폭로함: 우리는 자랑스럽고 진취적인 가문 출신이 아닙니다. 우리는 자기 기원에 대해 자부심이 있는 그런 민족이 아닙니다. 우리는 강력하고 위대한 민족 출신이 아닙니다. 이스라엘 민족의 기원은 미천하며 완전히 주님의 은혜에 의존하고 있습니다. 둘째, 우리는 애굽에서 민족이 되었습니다. 이것은 사소한 일이 아니며, 대단히 중요한 것입니다. 이스라엘이 애굽에서, 그리고 출애굽 후 40년 광야 유랑생활 동안 민족이 되었다는 것이 무슨 뜻일까요? 이 점은 예슈아의 21세기 제자인 저에게 중요합니다. 적개심에 불타며 적대적인 사촌들을 한 민족으로 만든 것은 그들이 애굽에서 종살이한 세월 동안 겪어야 했던 박해와 고난입니다: “애굽 사람이 우리를 학대하며 우리를 괴롭히며 우리에게 중노동을 시켰다.” 오늘날의 교회에 이 메시지는 약이 되어야 할 것입니다. 기독교인들을 좀 더 편안하게 만들고 푹신한 회중석에 앉아 있는 사람들의 심사를 불편하게 만들지 않고 교회 예배를 좀 더 수요자 정치적으로 옳게 만드는 경주는 더 강한 기독교인들을 낳지도, 더욱 연합시키지도, 더 건강한 성장이 있게도 하지 못했고, 앞으로도 못할 것입니다. 강하고 확신에 차 있고 적과 싸우는 메시아의 제자들이 성장한 역사의 패턴은 더 편안하고 더 정치적으로 옳은 교회였던 적이 없고 그럴 수도 없습니다. 강함은 고통과 명분에 대한 헌신, 어려움에 버티면서 근육을 단련함에서 옵니다. 도전이나 희생이나 자기훈련이 없는 교회는 기운 없는 교회, 이기적이고 내분만 일삼는 교회가 됩니다. 매년 이스라엘 사람은 기쁨과 자부심으로 자기의 노동의 첫 소산물이자 최고의 소산물을 가지고 제사장에게 왔습니다. 그는 그의 큰 성공에 뿌듯해하며 만족해 할 모든 이유를 가지고 왔습니다. 토라는 우리에게 이스라엘의 예배자가 그를 다시 바른 길에 돌려놓는 겸손케 하는 이야기 – 나는 나와 동족 이스라엘 사람들로 하여금 연합하고 민족이 될 수밖에 없게 만든 고난과 낮아지게 만들었던 미천한 배경에서 왔으며, 이것은 모두 감사와 우리 주님의 선하심이라는 이야기를 말해야 한다는 것을 말해 줍니다. 이 말을 한 다음에야 제사장이 첫 소산물 광주리를 받아 그것을 주님께 바치고 예배자에게 형통한 또 한 해가 되기를 축복합니다. 저는 우리 모두가 이 이야기에서 아주 많은 것을 얻어 이 원리 중에서 일부를 우리 삶에 실제로 행할 수 있을 것이라고 생각합니다: 겸손, 우리가 정말 누구인지에 대한 고백, 성공하고 자부심 있는 민족이라는 우리의 가면 벗기, 우리 주님의 선하심과 자비에 완전히 의존하는 자세로 다시 돌아가기. 그때 우리의 처음이자 마지막 소산물로 우리 삶을 우리가 마땅히 드릴 산제사로 주님께 가져올 시간이 될 것입니다(롬 12:1 참조).
이스라엘은 아직도 코로나바이러스와 싸우고 있는데요, 2차 창궐 중이며 매일 코로나바이러스 신규 확진자가 2,000명 가량 생기고 있습니다.
이스라엘에서 코로나바이러스를 다스리고 확산을 통제하도록 이스라엘정부가 임명했던, 텔-아비브 이킬로브 병원(슈라스키 메디컬센터)장 론니 감주 교수는, 정치인들이 그가 입원 환자 및 중환자수, 중환자실에서 에크모(체외막산소공급기)에 의존하고 있는 환자수 증가를 막기 위해 필요한 일을 하도록 허용하지 않고 있어, 포기하려고 합니다. 감주 교수는 우리의 기도가 필요합니다.
사망자수는 거의 1,000명에 근접하게 증가했습니다. 사망자의 평균연령은 62세로 내려왔는데요, 좀 더 젊은 사람들이 감염으로 중퇴가 되어 죽어가고 있기 때문입니다.
우리는 전 세계와 각자의 나라를 위해 그리고 거기에 이스라엘을 추가하여 기도해야 합니다. 저는 이 코로나바이러스가 이스라엘을 훈육하여 그들이 하나님과 더 좋은 관계로 회복되고 그들의 창조주를 더 존경하도록 하나님께서 보내셨던 성경의 다른 모든 염병 같은 전염병이라고 믿습니다.
이스라엘이 회개했을 때나 모세가 들어 올렸던 놋뱀을 바라보았을 때, 그들은 치유 받았습니다. 물론, 우리는 모세 때처럼 놋뱀이 필요하지는 않지만, 우리의 눈을 들어 그 무엇도 아닌 우리 주 예슈아께 초점을 맞출 필요가 있습니다.
이것이 의미하는 것은 우리의 믿음을, 또 다시 분열되고 메시아의 몸을 분열시켜 우리의 믿음의 중심을 십자가에 달리신 분으로부터 교회 제도로 돌려버린 교파가 아닌, 메시아의 복음에 다시 맞추라는 것입니다. 저는 하나님의 말씀에 나타난 다른 모든 전염병과 마찬가지로 이 전염병도 하나님으로부터 왔고 하나님에 의해 멈춰질 수 있다고 믿습니다.
이스라엘 의회는 지난 주 마지막 순간에 18개월 동안 네 번째가 되는 총선 연기에 대한 투표를 하여 3개월 후 2020년 12월 23일에 하기로 했습니다. 저는 여러분 모두께 그렇게 금방 다시 총선이 없도록, 저희 나라 정치인들이 깨어나 다른 모든 것보다 나라의 유익을 앞에 두도록 기도해 주시기를 부탁드립니다.
우리 모두, 우리 영적 지도자들이 우리를 회개로, 죄와 허물을 고백하는 데로 이끌고 지적하여, 주님께서 이 코로나바이러스를 이 땅에서 거두시고, 우리가 주님을 기억하며 그분의 의와 진리의 길로 걸어가게 하도록 기도하며 격려합시다.

The Jerusalem Prayer List – September 3, 2020

“I can remember the days of September when life was gay and oh so callow.”
This September is anything but gay or callow. The world is struggling with the coronavirus killer that has taken hundreds of thousands of lives, around the whole world. The challenge of this virus is to understand how it works and how it infects people. Israel’s finest scientists and medical doctors have been working hard to pinpoint the exact way that this virus behaves. There is some progress around the world with the development of a vaccine. The Israelis say that they hope to have a vaccine that works by the fall of 2021. Yes, it is still at least a year away. Many don’t have the patience to wait because businesses and giant corporations are closing their doors. There are international businesses that have existed and worked and served more than a hundred years that are closing their doors. Companies such as Brooks Brothers have closed their doors and will not open again. The giant high end retail outlet Neiman Marcus is closing many of its stores. The whole world is having to deal not only with the health effects of the coronavirus, but also with the effect of the coronavirus on the economy and the labor market. There are millions of people without jobs and with no regular income. Families are literally without food in their refrigerators. In Israel too there are families that are hungry. It is good that Netivyah has the Hamotzi food provision program that feeds many hundreds of people. The people who receive food from Netivyah are from every community, we have Orthodox and Ultra-Orthodox Jews, Ethiopian immigrants and Russian immigrants, Middle Eastern Jews, and a few Arab families from the Old City of Jerusalem. The food that is distributed is just amazing. I was just at Netivyah to see what Deputy Director Yehuda Bachana is accomplishing on the roof of Netivyah, where I visited our food distribution effort. Every time that I see what the volunteers and the Netivyah staff are doing with the Hamotzi food program I am amazed and full of gratitude to all those brothers and sisters who are sending their contributions. We have people who contribute every week just a few dollars, normally less than 10 dollars. There are others who contribute more, regularly. I believe that all of these people without exception and without deference as to how much each contributes are an inspiration to us and to the people that receive the food. Today one woman wanted a whole chicken. Normally most people want different parts, drumsticks, or chicken breast, wings, or thighs. The big freezer is full of chicken, different frozen cuts of beef, and frozen fish. There are several hundreds of boxes of dry cereal, cornflakes, and many other kinds of cereals that children like. Shelves full of everything like, rice, oil, many kinds of pasta, sugar, and flour, even herbs and mustard and mayonnaise, and shelf after shelf full of all kinds of good things, like a supermarket. I was personally amazed and happy to see the plenty and the quality of what the needy of Jerusalem are receiving in such an honorable and dignified manner. We at Netivyah feel honored and privileged to be able to serve the people of Jerusalem. This is the same privilege that Paul, and the disciples that were with him, had in the first century. Just see what Paul is saying to the church in Rome: “But now I am going to Jerusalem to minister to the saints. For it pleased those from Macedonia and Achaia to make a certain contribution for the poor among the saints who are in Jerusalem. It pleased them indeed, and they are their debtors. For if the Gentiles have been partakers of their spiritual things, their duty is also to minister to them in material things.” – Romans 15:25–27 [NKJV] We at Netivyah also feel pleased and also debtors to the people of Jerusalem and Israel to do this work. We feel indebted to the people of Jerusalem because the history of the relationship between the people of Jerusalem and the churches from Europe has been one ugly history that has created a very bad impression of what Christianity is. Now we have a rare opportunity to reverse this impression and we are doing it with joy and hope and much love. Thank you all who stand with Netivyah and who support the Hamotzi program and the student support program and the other wonderful work that is being done by the Netivyah staff and the Roeh Israel congregation volunteers. The reading this Shabbat is approaching the end of Deuteronomy which means that the High Holidays are quickly approaching. From the Torah we are reading from Deuteronomy 26:1 – 29:8 (9). The name of this Parasha is Ki Tavo (“when you enter the land”). The reading from the prophets is from Isaiah 60:1-22 and from the New Testament we will read from Acts 7:30-36. In Parashat Ki Tavo there are some very important pearls that we all need to learn and take seriously. The first part of this reading is dealing with the procedures for each family when bringing their first fruits to the Tabernacle (Temple) and when presenting these first fruits to the priest. This happened one time a year during the feast of Pentecost (Shavuot). The importance of this text is that we have for the first and last time the words that the worshiper says to the priests during the presentation of the first fruits. This is of great importance for us today. We read so much about the sacrifices in the book of Leviticus, and also in the New Testament in the book of Hebrews, but we don’t have much of the dialogue that went on between the worshiper and the priest that received these first fruits. Here is the dialogue between the worshiper and the Priest: “Then the priest shall take the basket out of your hand and set it down before the altar of the Lord your God. And you shall answer and say before the Lord your God: ‘My father was a Syrian, about to perish, and he went down to Egypt and dwelt there, few in number; and there he became a nation, great, mighty, and populous. But the Egyptians mistreated us, afflicted us, and laid hard bondage on us. Then we cried out to the Lord God of our fathers, and the Lord heard our voice and looked on our affliction and our labor and our oppression. So the Lord brought us out of Egypt with a mighty hand and with an outstretched arm, with great terror and with signs and wonders. He has brought us to this place and has given us this land, “a land flowing with milk and honey”; and now, behold, I have brought the firstfruits of the land which you, O Lord, have given me.’ Then you shall set it before the Lord your God, and worship before the Lord your God.” – Deuteronomy 26:4–10 [NKJV] These words are short, but they contain the essence of the story of Israel then and now! Let me analyze the words of the worshiper to the priests. First, confession of and revelation of our ancestors’ weakness: we did not come from a proud and aggressive family. We are not a people that takes pride in their origin. We didn’t come from a powerful and great nation. The origins of the Israelite nation are humble and totally dependent on the Lord’s grace. Second, we became a nation in Egypt. This is no small detail, and it is of great importance. What does it mean that Israel became a nation in Egypt and on the way out of Egypt during the 40 years of wandering in the wilderness. This point is important to me as a 21st-Century disciple of Yeshua. What made a bunch of hostile and contrary cousins into a nation is the persecution and suffering that they had to pass through during the years of slavery in Egypt: “the Egyptians mistreated us, afflicted us, and laid hard bondage on us.” For the church of today this message ought to serve as medicine. The race to make Christians more comfortable and to not offend the people who are sitting on the padded benches (pews) and to make the church services more user politically correct has not and will not produce stronger Christians and more unity, and more healthy growth. The pattern of history for the growth of strong, convicted, fighting the enemy, disciples of the Messiah, has been and cannot be the more comfortable and more politically correct church. Strength comes from pain, and dedication to the cause and exercising the muscles in resistance to the difficulties. A church without challenges, demanding sacrifice and the exercise of self-discipline, will become a despondent church and will become selfish and one that is seeking internal conflicts. Each year that an Israelite came to the priest with his joy and pride, the first fruit, the best fruit, the products of his labor. He came with every reason to be proud and self-content with his great success. The Torah tells us that the Israelite worshiper has to verbalize a humbling narrative that puts him back on the right track - I come from a poor background of suffering and degradation that forced me and my fellow Israelites to unite and become a nation, and it is all with gratitude and through the goodness of our Lord. Only after these words are spoken does the priest accept the basket of first fruits and dedicates them to the Lord and blesses the worshipper with another year of prosperity. I believe that we can all get so much from this narrative and can implement some of these principles in our lives: of humility, the confession of who we really are, of taking off our masks of being a successful and proud people, and of returning to the reality of our total dependence on the goodness and mercy of our Lord. Then it will be the time to bring our first and last fruits to the Lord as an offering of our lives as a living sacrifice which is our reasonable service (see Romans 12:1).
Israel is still fighting the coronavirus and we are still in the second wave and now over 2000 people in Israel are added every day to the list of those who have been infected with the coronavirus.
Professor Ronni Gamzu, the head of Tel Aviv’s Ichilov Hospital (Sourasky Medical Center), who was appointed by the Israeli government to manage the coronavirus and control the spread of the plague in Israel is about to give up because the politicians are not allowing him to do what is necessary to stop the rising number of sick and the number of critically ill, in the hospitals, and the number of those who are in ICU’s, who are on ECMO machines (oxygen enhancing devices). Professor Gamzu needs our prayers.
The number of dead has risen to very close to 1000 people. The average age of the dead has come down to 62 years old because more younger people are getting infected and seriously ill and dying.
We must pray for the whole world and each of us for his own country and to add Israel. I believe that this coronavirus is a plague like all the biblical plagues that God sent to educate Israel and to restore them to having a better relationship with Him, and to having greater respect for their creator.
When Israel repented or looked at the brass snake that Moses lifted up, they received healing. Of course, we don’t need a brass serpent like in the days of Moses, but we do need to lift up our eyes and focus on Yeshua our Lord and on nothing else.
What this means is a refocusing of our faith on the Gospel of the Messiah and not on the denominations that have again divided and divided the Body of the Messiah and diverted the center of our faith from the one that was Crucified, to the institution of the church. I believe that this plague like every other plague in the Word of God comes from God and can be stopped by God.
At the very last moment last week the Israeli parliament voted to postpone a fourth election in 18 months by three months to December 23rd, 2020. I ask you all to pray that there will not be an election again so soon, and that our politicians in Israel will wake up and place the good of the nation before everything else.
Let us all pray and encourage our spiritual leaders to lead and to point us toward repentance and to the confession of our sins and weaknesses, so that the Lord will lift this coronavirus from off of this earth and that we will remember the Lord and seek to walk in His paths of righteousness and truth.
Please keep praying for Marcia’s health, her memory, diabetes, and rheumatoid arthritis. Danah our daughter, needs much prayer for her situation and so does our granddaughter Noaam. Please lift Danah and Noaam in your prayers. Please lift Barry our son and his family, Beth, and Joey our grandson who are also staying at home and working from home during this time. Marcia’s mother June is 91 years old and her health is failing.
Brazil is in bad shape with the coronavirus and the problems of the business community, and the social unrest is also a major challenge. We have so many brothers and sisters in Brazil that need our prayers and intercession on their behalf.
Here is a short list of communities and brothers and sisters in Brazil who need our prayers and God’s grace in these hard times: Pray for the sister communities of Netivyah in Brazil, Har Zion, Ensenando de Siao, and Sar-El in Curitiba and other brothers and sisters in the city of Curitiba.
There is another congregation of brothers and sisters in Curitiba led by brother Claus and brother Moses, please pray for these dear brothers also and for and the Messianic congregations in Fortaleza, Santa Maria, Sao Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, and in other cities in Brazil. Pray for our dear older and more vulnerable brothers and sisters and partners in Brazil, Michelle O., Marcelo Guimaraes family and especially his father, Paulo, Marty Galante. The Resende family.
I am asking you to pray for TJ who is the pastor of the congregation in Taiwan who recently lost his wife, Sister Angela, to cancer.

By praying for people who are your brothers and sisters, and whom you do not know personally, you are exercising the right to be God’s ambassador in what is called “agape love.” “Agape love” is the highest form of love, a love that does not look for earthly rewards or give and take, but just does the service of intercession in the kingdom of God.
You will be blessed by the almighty God who gives each of His children good for the good we do and recompense for the bad we do. Your sincere prayers for people around the world do the following things for the Kingdom, the King, and for the body of the Messiah:
1. They unite you and the body in a major transcendent bond of prayer.
2. They demonstrate the oneness of the people of God.
3. Your prayer shows that there are people outside the realm of the physical world and personal interests who have a sincere bond and relationship that is heavenly and not earthly.
4. The Lord knows His children and gives credit and reward according to His promises.

Pray for Israel. We are going through terrible riots and violence in the streets of Jerusalem and Tel-Aviv and other places around the country. These riots are motivated by the fact that much of the populace of Israel does not understand what the government is doing in relationship to the coronavirus pandemic.
Businesses are closing and bankruptcy is happening to old established companies and businesses and even our national airline is on the verge of bankruptcy. People do not have money to put food on their tables. The number of people in need of basic food is growing.
Netivyah has been feeding the poor of Jerusalem for more than 25 years and we have a highly appreciated humanitarian ministry that is working with the Jerusalem municipality. As the demands for food for people who never before needed such help grows, I pray that the Lord will inspire and motivate brothers and sisters and ministries who can help with this to go to the webpage: www.netivyah.org and do what they can to make it possible for us to double or more than double, the number of people and families that we serve.
Our prime minister’s case is still before the courts. I am not happy that this is happening in Israel, but I am praying that true justice and righteousness is exhibited in our court system. The truth must come out and I am not interested in a second prime minister of Israel going to jail. We have had a president in jail, a finance minister in jail, a minister of interior affairs in jail, and a member of the parliament in jail. Enough!

The coronavirus is threatening the economy of the world with a great recession and depression. Some of our major supporters have already lowered the amount of their support. They have done this not only toward Netivyah, but for all the ministries that they are supporting, and they are many. I would like to first ask you to pray about your part in supporting Netivyah Bible Instruction Ministry.
Second, I would like for you who stand with us in prayer and financially to do your absolute best to stay on board with us and communicate. We realize that times will be hard for several years, but we also realize that God has chosen and blessed you for such a time as this.
Third, please pray for a new project that we are starting in Israel in partnership with the Houses for Healing ministry from Abilene, Texas.
The aim is to provide hospitality for families of critically ill patients who are hospitalized in one of Jerusalem’s hospitals and who have no means to stay in hotels while their family members are in the hospitals.
This is a critical need especially in these days when there are hundreds of men and women who are in the Coronavirus ICU units for weeks and even months.
We have a couple who is coming from Switzerland to be the house parents of the first such apartment in Jerusalem. The social workers of the hospitals in Jerusalem are so excited by this effort in which our brothers in the USA and the Netivyah staff are partnering to be the first such ministry in Israel.
We need your prayer and your help to make this a meaningful and significant blessing both to the sick and to their families.
I wish all of you, who stand with Israel and who pray for Jerusalem, the best of the Lord’s blessings and the fulfillment of all His promises to His faithful children. Those who hear God and do His will are the ones who are called wise! Those who only hear His word and don’t do it are called foolish! Let us all strive to be wise and never foolish!
