폭풍의 눈 속에서

"그러므로 하늘에 계신 너희 아버지의 온전하심과 같이 너희도 온전하라."

마태복음 5:43-48에서 예슈아께서는 어떻게 그분께서 온전하심 같이 그분 안에서 온전할 수 있는지에 대해 무리에게 말씀하십니다. 이 가르침에서 우리는 출애굽기 21:23-24에 쓰인 것과 정반대 같이 보이는 것을 봅니다.

우리는 사람들이 자기 자신의 평안을 위해 세운 규범과 규율이 있는 세계에 살고 있습니다. 사람이 하나님의 성품을 알지 못하면, 자기의 이익을 위해, 그리고 필요하다고 생각한다면 다른 사람들의 희생을 통해서라도 계속해서 상황을 통제하려 합니다.

이 세상 체제는 원수가 부도덕과 복수(눈에는 눈)와 탐욕으로 인류를 부패케 했던, 니므롯 때 바벨론에 존재하던 그의 영토의 체제와 견줄 수 있을 것 같습니다. 사람들이 땅을 경작하던 농부였을 때 니므롯은 바벨론을 다스리며 도시들을 많이 세웠습니다. 그들은 하나님의 영광을 위해서가 아니라 인류의 진보만을 위해 도시들이 세웠고 그 진보는 부패로 이어지는 문명 안에 있었습니다.

그럼 우리 믿는 자들은 많은 사람들이 자기 잇속만 차리는 사고방식과 하나님으로부터 멀리 돌아선 마음을 가지고 사는 세상에서 어떻게 살고 있습니까? 예슈아의 제자로서, 고통과 부패로 가득한 사회 속에 살고 있는 우리의 역할은 무엇입니까?

우리는 우리 원수를 사랑하고 그들을 위해 기도하라고 부르심 받았습니다. 그런데 그것이 언제나 쉬운 것만은 아닙니다. 우리의 육신과 마음과 영혼은 연약하며, 우리의 성품은 이 세상의 재물에 끌립니다. 예슈아께서는 우리에게 우리 마음을 새롭게 하라고 가르치시며, 그래서 마태복음 22:34-40에서 바리새인이 “율법 중에서 어느 계명이 크니이까?” 질문 받으셨을 때처럼 대답하신 것입니다.

주님의 대답은 첫째 “네 마음을 다하고 목숨을 다하고 뜻을 다하여 주의 하나님을 사랑하라.”였습니다. 그러니까 우리가 여기서 알 수 있는 것은 내가 몸과 마음과 혼을 이기려면, 예슈아로 하여금 내 존재의 이 영역들을 차지하시는 것을 허락하기로 선택해야 합니다.

이것은 “네 이웃을 네 자신같이 사랑하라.”는 둘째 계명으로 이어집니다. 이웃으로 번역된 히브리어 단어는 더 풍부한 의미가 있습니다. 이것은 우리 삶 주변과 안에 있는 모든 사람들을 포함합니다. 이것은 누구든 우리가 교류하는 사람을 의미할 수 있습니다.

그럼 무엇이 사랑입니까? 고린도전서 13:4-8에서 저는 성령님으로 말미암아 제 마음과 혼과 영을 이기며 하나님의 사랑이 제 안에 거할 때, 이 세상 그 어떤 재물도 제 마음을 차지할 수 없다는 것을 알 수 있습니다. 여러분은 어떻게 이런 사고방식을 유지하며 견딜 수 있을까 자문하실지도 모릅니다. 여러분은 이 세상을 지으신 분께 연합되었고 그분께서 여러분의 능력 이상으로 데려 가실 것을 기억하십시오. 그분은 여러분 안에 거하시어 여러분이 이곳 지상에서 그분을 보여주는 존재가 되기를 원하십니다.

저는 이 기회를 빌어 우리 미국 친구들과 동역자들께, 지금과 같은 갈등의 때에 저희 마음도 여러분과 함께 있다는 것을 말씀 드리고 싶습니다. 저는 여러분께 여러분 주변에서 일어나고 있는 일을 육신의 눈으로 보시지 마시고 여러분의 눈과 마음을 예슈아께 돌리시기를 권면 드립니다. 그러면 그분께서 여러분과 여러분의 사랑하는 이들을 안고 이 폭풍을 지나게 하실 것입니다.

In The Eye Of The Storm

" Therefore you shall be perfect, just as your Father in heaven is perfect."

In Matthew 5:43-48 Yeshua speaks to the crowd about how to be perfect in Him as He is perfect. In this teaching we find what appears to be opposite from what is written in Exodus 21:23-24.

We live in a world of rules and regulations where men build for their own comfort. Unless a man knows God’s character, he will continually try to control his situation for his own benefit and at the expense of others if he deems it necessary.

The systems of this world can be likened to that of Nimrod’s time and his territory in Babylon where the enemy succeeded in corrupting mankind through immorality, revenge (eye for an eye) and greed. Nimrod ruled over Babylon and built many cities during a period when people were farmers who worked the land. They found themselves within a civilization where cities were built not for the glory of God but for the advancement of mankind only, which leads to corruption.

So how do we as believers live in a world where many are of a self-serving mindset, with a heart turned far from God? What is our role as a follower of Yeshua living within a society filled with pain and corruption?

We are called to love our enemies and to pray for them and its not always easy. Our flesh, mind and soul are weak, and our character is drawn to the treasures of this world. Yeshua teaches us to renew our mind and that is why He responded as He did in Matthew 22:34-40 when asked by the Pharisees “which is the great commandment in the law?”

His answer was that first, “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind.” So, we see here that in order to overcome body, mind and spirit, I must choose to allow Yeshua to conquer and occupy those areas of my being.

This leads to the second command which is, “You shall love your neighbor as yourself.” The actual word in Hebrew translated neighbor has a fuller meaning. It includes all those who are around and in our lives. It can mean whomever we come in contact with.

So what is love? In 1 Corinthians 13:4-8 I see that when the love of God dwells inside of me, overcoming my mind, soul and spirit with His Spirit, none of the treasures of this world can occupy my heart. You may ask yourself, how is it possible to maintain and persevere with this mindset? Remember that you are joined to the One who created this world and He will take you further than your own abilities. He wants to dwell in you and for you to be His reflection here on earth.

I want to take this opportunity to say to our friends and partners from the United States that our hearts are with you during this time of conflict. I encourage you not to look at what is happening around you with your physical eyes but to turn your eyes and your heart to Yeshua and He will carry you and your loved ones through the storm.
