이번 안식일에 읽을 토라 포션은 두 포션: 마토트-마세이, 민수기 30:2-36:13입니다.

선지서에서 읽는 본문은 예레미야 2:4-28과 3:4입니다.

신약성경에서는 마가복음 11:12-25을 읽을 것입니다.

이 두 포션은 주께서 이스라엘 지파 두령들에게 명하시는 명령으로 시작됩니다. 그들은 명령과 서원을 진지하게 생각하고 가장 엄격하게 지켜야 합니다. 이 명령은 하나님과 이스라엘 지도자에게 순종하며, 하나님께서 주신 이스라엘 땅을 약속대로 정복할 때 모든 약속과 명령을 지키는 데에 있어서 새로운 패러다임을 만들었습니다. 이번 토라 포션들에서 제게 흥미로운 점은 하나님께서 이스라엘 자손의 두령들 앞에 두신 도전에 접근하는 방식입니다.

이 모든 것은 우리 말의 가치로 시작됩니다. 이스라엘 지파 두령들과 마찬가지로 우리의 가장 중요한 도구이자 무기는 우리의 말입니다. 우리의 말이 뜻을 담지 않는다면, 우리는 진지하게 받아들여지지 않습니다. 지파 두령들은 그들의 모든 약속에 단호히 서약해야 했습니다. 그렇지 않으면 하나님의 자손의 지도자로서의 권위를 잃을 위험에 처하는 것이었습니다.

불행하게도, 어떤 지도자들은 그들이 결코 지킬 의도가 없는 약속을 합니다. 자기 사람들을 이끌 특권이 없는 지도자는 참된 지도자가 아닙니다. 하나님의 사람들의 지도자가 가진 가장 중요한 무기 중 하나는 정직이며, 정직은 아무런 여과 없이 지도자의 약속과 말과 긴밀히 연결되어 있습니다. 지도자가 자기 말과 약속을 지키지 못하면, 그를 따르던 모든 사람이 그를 따르지 않을 것입니다.

모든 군 지도자나 정치 지도자에게 도전은 그들의 입에서 나온 것입니다. 모세는 이스라엘의 지도자들에게 그들이 약속한 것과 서원한 것과 그들의 말로 시작하여 연설합니다.

이번 안식일 토라 포션이 근거하고 있는 핵심은 우리 지도자들이 하는 약속과 서약의 중요성입니다. 영적 지도자들과 하나님의 말씀을 가르치는 성경교사들에게 그들이 말하는 말의 무게보다 더 중요한 도구는 없습니다. 혼란에 직면하여, 서약에 정직함은 공동체 안에서 신뢰를 고양시킬 수 있습니다. 지도자의 정직함이 공고하지 않고, 신뢰받지 못하고, 일관되지 않다면, 그 지도자는 하나님의 사람들의 모든 지도자에게 가장 중요한 도구인 신뢰와 존경을 유지하지 못할 것입니다. 저는 젊은 지도자들에게 그들이 하나님과 서로에게 한 약속을 반성해 보고, 상호 지지와 헌신의 중요성을 다시금 공고히 하기를 강력히 권면합니다.

민수기의 마지막 장들 중 아주 중요한 또 다른 부분은 역경에 직면할 때 집단 책임인데요, 이는 공동체가 믿음과 하나 됨으로 목표와 도전에 나아가며, 최종 목표에 일관성을 유지하며, 그들의 서약으로부터 생기는 어려움을 뚫고 다시금 일어나 공동체의 공동 목표가 성취될 때까지 더욱 더 밀고 나가야 한다는 것을 상기시킵니다.

모세는 지금 그가 등반하여 죽게 될 비스가 산으로 떠나는 것으로 절정에 이를 마지막 사건들의 무대를 마련하고 있습니다.

우리는 이번 토라 포션에서 하나님의 약속이 실현되려 할 때 도전이 많아지면서 하나님의 약속의 성취에 더욱 가까워진다는 것을 배울 수 있습니다. 하나님께서 이스라엘 자손에게 기업으로 주신 가나안 땅은 객관적으로 이스라엘이 이 땅을 상속하여 약속을 성취할 수 있는 자연적 능력에 지나는 정도입니다. 그들이 요단강에 더 가까이 올수록, 모세는 이스라엘 자손의 지도자로서의 그의 사역의 끝에 더 가까워지는 것입니다. - 격려의 말은 여호수아서 끝에서 볼 수 있습니다.

이번 안식일 선지서 포션은 예레미야 2장부터 3장까지입니다. 안식일에 읽을 장으로 예레미야의 이 두 장보다 더 흥미롭고 중요한 장은 없습니다.

선지서 포션 예레미야 본문은 이스라엘의 백성과 엘리트에게 하는 분명하고 긴급한 촉구로 시작됩니다. 예레미야 선지자는 하나님 앞에 틀림없이 탄원을 했을 것이고, 하나님으로부터 직접 응답을 받았습니다. 하나님께서는 시내 광야에서 이스라엘과 결혼하셨고, 시내 광야에서 방황한 40년은 하나님의 이스라엘 백성과의 신혼 기간으로 점하고 있습니다. 시내산에서 토라를 주신 것은 결혼식이었고, 토라는 이 온 지구의 창조주이신 이스라엘의 주 하나님과 이스라엘 민족 사이의 결혼 언약이었습니다. 예레미야 2장 2절은 말합니다:

“가서 예루살렘의 귀에 외칠지니라 여호와께서 이와 같이 말씀하시기를 내가 너를 위하여 네 청년 때의 인애와 네 신혼 때의 사랑을 기억하노니 곧 씨 뿌리지 못하는 땅, 그 광야에서 나를 따랐음이니라” (예레미야 2:2)

젊은 신부 이스라엘이 방금 결혼한 새 신랑에게 청한 온갖 요구를 생각해 보십시오. 출애굽기 17장에서 젊은 신부 이스라엘은 물을 요구합니다. 하나님께서는 그들에게 처음으로 반석에서 물을 주십니다. 그들은 배고픔을 불평하며 빵을 원했고, 하나님께서는 하늘에서 만나를 내려 주셨습니다. 만나 배달은 매일 아침 신선했고 무료였습니다. 그들은 새 신랑이 적으로부터 그의 신부를 보호해주는 것이 필요했고, 하나님께서는 전장에서 이스라엘에 승리를 주셨습니다. 그 승리는 전쟁에서의 승리일 뿐만 아니라, 기적이기도 했습니다. 두 명의 조력자가 하나님의 종 모세의 팔을 들어올리자 전쟁이 이스라엘의 것이 되었기 때문입니다.

예레미야 2장 본문은 성경에서 하나님과 이스라엘 민족 사이의 결혼식을 묘사한 유일한 구절입니다. 이스라엘 민족 말고는 다른 누구도 없습니다.

저는 어떻게 기독교 신학자들이 그리스도의 신부에 대해 읽고 그것이 교회라고 말할 수 있는지 전혀 이해가 안 됩니다. 교회라고요? 뭐랄까, 친애하는 여러분! 어떤 교회요? 수십 개 기독교파 중에서 하나를 골라보십시오. 그러면 각 교파와 다른 교파 사이의 차이는 대부분 아주 미미하여 가장 명석한 신학자조차 분명하게 정의내리거나 이해하지 못할 것입니다. 여러분, 학문적으로 최고 수준의 학교 중 하나에서 신학을 가르치는 교수에게 그리스도의 교회와 침례교회의 차이가 뭐냐고 물어보십시오. 그러면 그들은 말을 더듭기 시작할 것입니다. “글쎄요, 침례교도들은 예배 때 피아노를 사용합니다. 오, 침례교도는 또 사람이 믿는 순간 구원받고 침례 받는 순간에 그 그원이 인쳐진다고 믿습니다” 대단합니다!! 예수님이 주, 구원자, 하나님의 아들, 메시아시며, 다윗의 자손이며 아브라함의 자손이라고 믿는 두 무리의 사람들 사이에 분열을 만들기에 충분할 정도로 대단합니다. 게다가 이들 두 무리 둘 다 예수님이 기독교인이 아니라, 다윗과 아브라함의 자손, 순수 유대인이었다는 것을 잊었습니다.

예레미야 2장은 성경에서 유일하게 이 세상의 창조주 하나님께서 어디에서 누구와 결혼했는지 그 날과 장소의 이름을 밝히고 기술한 곳입니다. 새로 결혼한 이 한 쌍의 신혼 시절에 대한 간략한 설명과 함께 그 결혼과 그 결혼의 때와 연관된 분명한 역사적 연관성이 있는 유일한 곳입니다.

친애하는 형제님들, 오늘날 눈과 귀가 있는 사람이라면 누구든 믿음을 기반에 둔 기독교 공동체의 심장과 중심에서 기독교의 쇠락과 이슬람의 흥왕을 볼 수 있습니다.

예레미야 2장에서 예레미야 선지자는 이스라엘에 거의 200년 동안 지속된 이집트 종살이에서 이스라엘 자손이 출애굽할 때 분명하게 드러난 하나님과 이스라엘 사이의 사랑을 기억하라고 촉구합니다. 예레미야는 피라미드와 거대한 이교 신전을 포함하여 세계 역사상 가장 인상적이고 중요한 고대 유적을 건설하며 오랫동안 종살이하던 노예 민족, 출애굽한 이스라엘과 하나님 사이의 관계를 회상합니다.

친애하는 형제자매님들, 저는 어두운 흑암으로 다가가고 있는 깊은 회색 골짜기에서 여러분에게 촉구하고 있습니다.

하나님께서 이스라엘에 둘 사이의 사랑과 결혼을 상기시키시는 것은 회개하라는 촉구입니다.

1. 돌아와 회개하라는 촉구 (예레미야 2-3장):

하나님의 그분의 백성(그분의 신부)이 그에게 돌아오기를 간절히 바라는 열망과 회개의 촉구가 중심 주제입니다. 이 주제가 특히 오늘날에 의미가 있는 것은, 싸움 한가운데 집단적 반성과 개인적 반성이 영적으로 다시 새로워짐과 영적 힘으로 이끌 수 있기에 그렇습니다. 저 요셉 슐람은 공동체가 기도 가운데 하나되어 하나님의 인도하심을 구하며, 다음 세대, 여러분의 자녀와 손주들을 위해 회복력과 희망을 증진하기를 격려합니다. 하나님께서는 이스라엘에 그들이 시내 광야에서 방랑하며 보낸 40년 동안 사랑의 보살핌으로 그들에게 그들의 모든 필요를 공급해주신 것을 상기시키셨습니다.

하나님께서는 이스라엘 자손에게 결혼 언약으로 토라를 주시며 개개인들에게 진실함과 신뢰에 근거하여 하나님과의 개인적 관계와 공동체적 관계를 깊게 하고, 광야 방랑 생활과 각자의 인격을 세워가는 중 외부 세력이 가져다 두는 도전에 대처하라고 강력히 촉구하십니다.

3. 회복과 치유:

하나님께서는 희망과 속량을 강조하시며, 회복의 약속을 주십니다. 위기의 시기에 회복과 하나 됨의 희망을 붙잡는 것은 공공체의 사기와 하나 됨에 아주 중요한 요소입니다. 오늘날 교회에 대해, 우리는 고난 당하는 사람들에게 나아가 긍휼히 여기며 하나님의 사랑을 보여주는 것을 강조해야 하는데요, 이것은 공동체의 회복력을 증진시킬 것입니다.

하나 됨과 약하고 곤궁한 사람들을 지원하는 것은 성화된 공동체의 필수 요소입니다. 로빈후드 영화 속의 슬로건처럼, 각 사람은 모두를 위하고, 모두는 각 사람을 위한다! 그리스도의 제자 공동체는 어떤 클럽이나 정당이 아니라, 다시 태어난 형제자매, 하나님의 사랑의 은혜와 우리를 기다리고 있는 예언적 미래 아래 하나된 가족입니다. 우리는 하나가 되어 기도와 교제와 행동으로 서로를 지원해야 하며, 특히 전 세계적으로 어려운 요즘 같은 시기에는 더욱 그러해야 합니다.

코비드-19같은 문제와 정치적 이슈와 전 세계적으로 민주주의가 침식되고 있을 때, 우리는 공통된 기원을 가진 한 부족입니다. 그렇지만 우리는 일요일 클럽하우스에서 카드를 치고 모노폴리 게임을 하며 시간을 보내고 있는 것 같습니다.

신학 사상과 가르침은 우리의 믿음과 사랑과 소망의 힘과 능력입니다. 우리 주 메시아 예수님은 우리 개인의 구원과 가족의 구원과 이 세상 인류의 구원을 위한 능력과 수단입니다.

우리는 소망과 새로워짐에 초점을 맞추고, 절망에 직면하여 회복의 약속과 소망을 견지하는 일의 중요성을 강조하며, 삶의 어려움과 우리의 존재 위기에 직면하여 회복력을 고취해야 합니다. 한동안 유행했던 슬로건, “그는 무겁지 않다. 그는 내 형제다!”는 잊혀서는 안 됩니다. 만약 잊힌다면, 교회는 그리스도의 피로 성화된 공동체가 아니라, 동전 빨래방이 될 것입니다.

좀 더 큰 그림에 대해서는 어떻습니까? 우리 무리만 아니라, 같은 메시아(그리스도)께 예배하고 같은 성경을 읽고 같은 브랜드명의 옷을 입고 거리에서 연설하는 사람들까지 말입니다.

대화에 참여하려는 시도는 어떻습니까? 믿음과 공동체의 도전들과 개인적 경험에 대한 열린 토론을 고무하며 좀 더 깊은 연계와 이해를 증진시키는 대화 말입니다.

우리가 우리 기독교 이웃들을 초대하여 우리 도시와 우리 동네에서 이슬람의 증가에 대한 우리의 우려와 기도를 나누는 것이 왜 그리도 어렵습니까?

저는 1960년대에 어떻게 미국, 특히 테네시주 내슈빌 기독교인들이 연합하여 식당과 바에서 “알코올을 음료로 판매”하는 것에 반대하고, (임신하게 된 사람이 자기 딸이 아니라면) 낙태에 반대했었는지 기억합니다. 미국 기독교 공동체가 연합하여 해결해야 하는 시급하고 위험한 이슈들이 있는데요, 반-유대주의와 오랜 인종차별 같은 이슈입니다.

요약하면, 이번 토라 포션과 선지서 포션은 집중하여 마음과 생각으로 소화하고 처리해야 할 것이 풍부한 본문들입니다. 그래도, 이 장들은 정직과 공동체의 책임과 충직함과 회복의 소망에 힘을 주는 일의 중요성을 상기시킵니다. 이 모든 것은 이스라엘과 전 세계에서 (심지어 위대하고 아름다운 미국에서조차) 복잡한 현대 삶을 헤치고 나갈 때 중요한 것들입니다.

The Jerusalem Prayer List – 25 July, 2025

The reading on this Shabbat is from a double Torah portion: Mattot-Massei, from Numbers 30:2-36:13.

From the prophets, the reading is from Jeremiah 2:4-28 and 3:4.

From the New Testament, we will read from the Gospel of Mark 11:12-25.

These two portions start with a command of the Lord to the heads of the tribes of Israel. Their commands and oaths are to be taken seriously and adhered to in the strictest sense. This command initiates a new paradigm of obedience to God and the leadership of Israel, adhering to every promise and commitment made in the conquest of the God-given Land of Israel, as promised. What is interesting to me in these Torah portions is the way God approaches the challenges set before the leadership of the children of Israel.

It all begins with the value of our words. Like those heads of the tribes of Israel, our most important tool and weapon is our word. If our words don't carry meaning, we are not taken seriously. The heads of the tribes needed to have a firm commitment to every one of their promises, or they risked losing their authority as leaders of the children of God.

Unfortunately, some leaders make promises that they never intend to keep. A leader who doesn't have the prestige to lead his people is not a true leader. One of the most important weapons that the leader of God's people possesses is integrity, and integrity is closely tied to the leader's promises and words, without any filters. If a leader fails to keep his words and promises, all of his disciples will not follow him.

The challenge for every military or political leader is what comes out of their mouth. Moses addresses these leaders of Israel, starting with what they promise and take an oath to, and their words.

In reading Numbers 30-36 and Jeremiah 2-3, several essential themes and points emerge that can resonate deeply within the context of building a community of Jewish disciples of Yeshua, our Messiah, today, especially during challenging times like the current conflict in Israel. Our leaders in this time of war against a devious and dishonest Hamas and other enemies don't have a problem spreading lies and falsehoods to save their positions and not keeping at minimum the promises and commitments that they make out of their own free will.

The essence and main points that our reading in this Shabbat stands upon are the importance of the promises and vows that our leaders make. There is no tool more important for spiritual leaders and teachers of God's word than the weight of the words they speak. In the face of turmoil, integrity in commitments can foster trust within the community. If the integrity of the leaders is not cemented, trusted, and consistent, the leader cannot maintain their respect and trust, which is the most essential tool for every leader of God's people. I urge the young leaders to reflect on their promises to God and one another, reinforcing the importance of mutual support and dedication.

I am sorry to say that our present situation in Israel during this horrible, long, and cruel war in Gaza and the North is very weak in this specific area of leadership. The words, promises, and commitments of leaders today are essential to maintaining morale. The loyalty of our leaders, both in the military and in the political sphere, is due in part to the brevity of their terms.

The words of Moses emphasize the responsibility of leadership to speak what is in their heart and plans, and be steadfast with the challenges that they set before the people. And even if they alone keep their commitments and live up to their promises and words, the people will stand with them and follow, doing the impossible with God's help.

Another part of great importance in these last chapters of Numbers is the collective responsibility in facing adversity, reminding the community to approach goals and challenges with faith and unity, and remaining consistent with the final objectives and knowing how to to get up again and again through the difficulties that arise from their commitments, pushing more and more until the collective goals of the community are fulfilled.

Moses is setting the stage for the final events that he will be a part of, culminating in his departure to the mountain of Pisgah, where he will die.

We learn from this Torah reading that challenges increase and grow closer to the fulfillment of God's promises as they approach reality. God's inheritance to the children of Israel of the land of Canaan is objectively greater than the natural ability to fulfill and inherit this land. The closer they come to the Jordan River, the closer Moses comes to the end of his ministry and leadership of the children of Israel—the words of encouragement can be found at the end of the book of Joshua.

If I apply the lessons I learned from our Torah reading as a map to follow today, the thing that is missing above all is leadership that unites and combines the vision with the personalities that can bring this vision to fruition. Moses is the last leader to receive this kind of divine gift, being both a lawyer for the children of Israel and pleading their case before the judge of all judges – i.e., God Himself.

Moses is well aware of the weaknesses of his people. He is also a witness to his limitations in preparing the people to cross the Jordan River and settle the land according to the plan that God gave for the territories of each tribe. The boundaries and division of the land among the tribes is a story that will continue to the last chapters of the book of Judges. Addresses, boundaries, and inheritance of land have been determined by a kind of divine lottery, symbolizing the heritage and identity of every tribe. Securing a sense of belonging and purpose is vital for community cohesion. For this, God provides the tribes of Israel with clear guidelines for what each tribe will inherit and the borders of each tribe's inheritance.

The reading from the prophets this Shabbat is from Jeremiah 2-3. There is no more interesting and important chapter to read on Shabbat than these two chapters of Jeremiah.

The prophet Jeremiah begins our reading with a clear and urgent call to Israel, both the people and the elite. The prophet must plead before God, and he receives a response from God Himself. God married Israel in the wilderness of Sinai, and the 40 years of wandering in the desert of Sinai marked God's honeymoon with the people of Israel. The giving of the Torah at Mount Sinai was the marriage ceremony, and the Torah was the marriage contract between the nation of Israel and the Lord God of Israel, the very Creator of this whole Earth. Jeremiah 2:2-3 says:

"Go and say in the ears of Jerusalem, The Lord says, I still keep the memory of your kind heart when you were young, and your love when you became my bride; how you went after me in the waste of sand, in an unplanted land." (Jeremiah 2:2-3 BBE).

Think of every request that the young bride Israel had from her newly wed husband. Israel, the young bride, asked for water in chapter 17 of Exodus. God gives them water from the rock for the first time. They complained of hunger and wanted bread; God gave them the manna from heaven. The delivery of the manna was fresh every morning and free of charge. They needed the newlywed husband to protect his bride from the enemy – God gave victory to Israel on the battlefield. The victory was not only a military victory, but it was also a miracle, as two helpers upheld the hands of God's servant Moses, and the battle was Israel's.

The text in Jeremiah chapter 2 is the only passage in the Bible that describes a wedding ceremony between God Himself and the nation of Israel, no one else, except for the nation of Israel.

I never understood how Christian theologians can read about the bride of Christ and say that it is the Church. The Church, mind you, dear people! Which Church? Pick one from the dozens of Christian denominations, and the differences between each and the other are, most of the time, so minor that they can't be clearly defined and understood even by the sharpest of scholars of theology. You ask a professor of theology at one of the top academic schools what the difference is between the Churches of Christ and the Baptist Church, and they start mumbling, "Well, the Baptists use a piano in their worship. O' the Baptist also believes that a person is saved at the moment of faith and that salvation is sealed at the moment of Baptism." Big deal!! Big enough to create a division between two groups of people who both believe that Jesus is the LORD, Saviour, Son of God, Messiah, and Son of David and Son of Abraham. And both of them forgot that Jesus was not a Christian, but a pure Jew, son of David and Abraham.

Jeremiah 2 is the only place in the Bible that names and describes the day and place where God, the Creator of the world, married someone. The only place with a clear historical connection to the wedding and the time of the wedding, along with a brief description of the honeymoon of this new couple.

Well, dear brothers, anyone who has eyes and ears today can see the decline of Christianity and the rise of Islam in the very heart and hub of faith-based Christian communities.

Jeremiah the prophet, in chapter 2, calls Israel to remember the love affair between God and Israel that is so clearly seen in the Exodus of the children of Israel from Egyptian slavery that lasted nearly 200 years. Jeremiah recalls the relationship between God and Israel in the Exodus, of the horde of enslaved people from a long period of slavery, building some of the most impressive and vital ancient monuments in world history, including the pyramids and the giant temples to their pagan gods.

I am calling you, dear brothers and sisters, from the valley of deep gray that approaches dark blackness.

God reminding Israel of their love affair and wedding is a call to repentance.

1. Call to Return and Repentance (Jeremiah 2-3):

God's yearning for His people (His bride) to return to Him and the call for repentance are central themes. This theme is especially relevant today, as collective and personal reflection can lead to spiritual renewal and strength in the midst of strife. I, Joseph Shulam, encourage the community to unite in prayer and seek God's guidance, fostering resilience and hope for the sake of the next generation, your children, and grandchildren. God reminded Israel of His love and care during the 40 years they spent wandering in the Sinai Desert, providing them with all their needs with caring love.

2. God's Faithfulness Versus the Unfaithfulness of the People of Israel:

Right there under the wedding canopy, they asked no less than Aaron, the brother of Moses and the High Priest of Israel, to make a golden calf, which was the idol and symbol of a major Egyptian goddess.

Jeremiah contrasts faithfulness to God with the unfaithfulness of the ex-slaves saved by the grace and power of God. As the community faces external threats, reinforcing commitment to faith and one another is essential for their survival and fulfillment of God's promises to give them the land of Canaan as an eternal inheritance.

God gives the children of Israel the Torah as their wedding contract and urges individuals to cultivate a personal and communal relationship with God, rooted in sincerity and trust, addressing the challenges posed by external forces of wandering in the desert and of building their character.

3. Restoration and Healing:

God offers promises of restoration, emphasizing hope and redemption. In times of crisis, holding onto the hope of restoration and unity is a crucial ingredient for community morale and unity. For the Church today, we should emphasize outreach and compassion towards those suffering, reflecting God's love, which fosters community resilience.

Unity and support for the weak and needy are essential elements of a sanctified community. Like in the Robin Hood movies, the slogan is: ONE FOR All and ALL FOR ONE! The community of Christ's disciples is not a club or a political party; it is a family of born-again brothers and sisters, united under the grace of God's love and the prophetic future that awaits us. We must unite, supporting one another through prayer, fellowship, and action, especially during these challenging times worldwide.

With problems like COVID-19 and political issues, as well as the erosion of democracies worldwide, we are a tribe with a common origin. But we seem to pass our time in a Sunday clubhouse, playing cards and Monopoly to pass the time.

Theological ideas and teachings are the forces and power of our faith, love, and hope. Our Lord and Messiah Jesus is the power and means for our personal and family salvation and the salvation of the human masses of this world.

We must focus on hope and renewal, highlighting the promises of restoration and the importance of maintaining hope in the face of despair, inspiring resilience in the face of life's difficulties and our existence. The slogan that was popular for a season, "He is not heavy – He is my brother!" It is not to be forgotten, and if it is, the Church becomes a laundromat. Not a sanctified-by-the-blood-of-Christ community.

What about the bigger picture, not only our group, but also those actresses on the street who worship the same Messiah (Christ), read the same Bible, and dress in the identical brand-name suits and clothing?

What about an attempt to engage in dialogue? Encouraging open discussions about faith, community challenges, and personal experiences, fostering deeper connections and understanding.

Why is it too hard for us to invite our Christian neighbors and share our prayers and concerns about the growth of Islam in our cities and neighborhoods?

I remember in the 1960s how Christians in the United States, especially in Nashville, Tennessee, united against "Liquor by the drink" in restaurants and bars and against abortions (unless it was their daughter who got pregnant). There are urgent and dangerous issues that the Christian community in the United States needs to unite and work to solve, like antisemitism and lingering racism.

In summary, our Torah portion and the reading from the prophets are rich texts that require a bit of concentration and a great deal of heart and brain to digest and process. Still, these chapters remind communities of the importance of integrity, communal responsibility, faithfulness, and the empowering hope of restoration, all of which are critical as they navigate the complexities of modern life in Israel and around the world. (Even in the great and beautiful United States of America.)

Suppose the churches don't wake up and reboot their computers and laptops to concentrate first on the big picture, look at their horizon, and see the swirling tornado approaching their homes. In that case, the weakness of their foundations might prove deadly to their children's and grandchildren's lives and faith.

I know that this prayer list sounds like a letter of doom! No, my dear brothers, this prayer list is a letter full of hope, faith, and love. The hope is that evangelical Christian churches will realize that we are all in the same small boat called the Titanic, and the iceberg is there, but we haven't changed the prescriptions of our glasses, and we don't see clearly or hear clearly. We have selective hearing, like my grandmother Rosa, and selective eyesight, like me, with one eye.

I remind you that we still have 50 hostages in Gaza suffering daily abuse and hunger, and unimaginable human behavior that the devil himself invented and planted in the hearts of the terrorists. I am not speaking of Arabs, I am speaking of people who were Arabs but converted to become heartless and also liverless, not only against Jews and Israelites but against their population and fellow Muslims. And the poor Christian community in Gaza and the war zones of the Middle East. The suffering of the Christian's in Gaza and in other Muslim terrorist communities is unimaginable, but who is their voice today? I don't know, but I pray that God knows the names, addresses, and sizes of their shoes and will deal with them individually and collectively very soon! At least this is my prayer for the sake of my Christian brothers and sisters living under the terrorist regimes in neighboring and enemy countries around Israel.

 I visited Mauno Lemponen and he is in good spirits. He shares that I can feel the love and prayers from around the world in his daily life. He has been diagnosed with cancer in advanced stages. We are asking for Gods Will to be done, giving him healthy days with family—prayers for Hilka, Miika, and Ester, who support each other.

 Keijo and Salme are doing well. Both Keijo and Salme need your prayers for their health issues.

 Cynthia M asked that you for praying for her health. She has neutropenia and chronic asthma and I has been undergoing biological treatment with injections every two weeks since 2021 so I ask you to pray for better results and better health conditions as the symptoms, respiratory infections, medications and injections make me very tired every day.

In Ethiopia:

 Diu G. has been sick with meningitis and he and his family are all in need of prayers for strength and healing to help him.

As I drove to the rehab facility this evening to pickup my sister who stayed with Mom today a beautiful rainbow was ahead on the road. We were able to get her bathed and a hair cut. Mom was extremely tired today however it was the first time she took 4 steps. Please pray for her continued strength and desire to do physical therapy and occupational therapy. There were some moments where we wonder if she recognizes people without a prompt. We have good news about Dads pet scan. His cancer is about the same stage as it was a year ago.

 update Hester H in Virginia is in Beth's aunt and is back home and needs prayers for strength and health.

 update Elisheva’s husband had surgery last week and will have to have two more. He will be out of work and the family is going to have to find a different housing arrangement. Pray for him to be able to find employment after his recovery. Her son is also starting a new treatment for ADHD. Please pray for both of them to imrove.

 Adam B. is asking for prayers for job security. The hatchet job cutting that is taking place in the USA is not without families that are impacted. Please keep Adam and his family in prayers for job security.

 Manny is asking for prayers for his fathers health that is in decline.

 Jenny is Shirleyann's to find a different neurologist that will accept her insurance.

 I spoke with Shirleyann. Her kidneys are not doing well and so is her heart. Please pray for her health to improve.

 Pete and Marge. Marge is undergoing test for Brest cancer and they are in the process of trying to get legal guardianship of their grandkids. They are both in the mid 80s. Please pray for strength and longevity to get these kids past college age.

 Jose needs your prayers for a blessing on his marriage to grow stronger and prayers for the birth of a Son.

 Aida Ramirez 99 yrs old she had her MRI done and they are waiting for the results on the 23 of the month.

 Aida Gonzalez is still dealing with back pain. continue to pray for her strength to care for he rmother.

 Pat S pain management has improved with some shots. Keep Philip who is 89 and is caring for Pat in you prayers.

 Larry is asking for prayers for his grandchildren. I would say most of us that have grandchildren are concerned about the states of the world. The state of intolerance. The temptations out there. Please pray for the holy sprit to guide them in making good choices.

 Juli got a good report on her last scan and she is also in remission. So praise God both Bill and Jill are in remission. Give thanks to the Lord for he is Good.

 Barbra and Angie in Alaska. Barbra has some pains and discomfort related to old age. Please lift them in prayer for strength and reduction in pain.

 Please pray for Danah, my daughter's health issues. I pray for the Lord to give Danah wisdom, peace, and calm in life and her work.

 Aaron Hook, Nancy Hook’s oldest son, needs our prayers for wisdom and healing from past life issues.

 Lift for blessing and healing Jonathan B., his wife Aviva, their new baby, his mother, and his brother Daniel.

 Pray for these important men of God: Rabbi Salt, his family, and Rabbi Hasselblad. They are both older and need protection and blessings.

 update pray for Ilana Avramov, who is married to my cousin Nissim and lives in New York City. Ilana is home now. her health is in a decline like Marcia. She and Nissim both need our prayers.

 Pray for Steve Mock - His cognitive condition has declined, and we ask for the grace of God and His Healing and strength. Steve and Josie’s son Joseph has received a wonderful and glorious report. After the last bone marrow transplant, the report is that the doctors didn’t find any leukemia in his body! Praise the Lord!
