이번 안식일 토라 포션은 “베하알롯트하”입니다. 히브리어로는 한 단어이지만 다른 언어로 번역하면 몇 개의 단어로 번역되어 “네가 등불을 정돈할 때에”로 번역됩니다. 일곱 등잔이 등잔대 앞으로 비추게 해야 합니다. 히브리어로는 한 단어이지만 다른 언어로 번역하면 여러 개 단어로 번역되는 일은 종종 있는 일입니다. 히브리어 단어는 매우 함축적이어서 영어나 독일어나 다른 언어에 비해 단어 수가 아주 적습니다.

안식일에 토라 포션과 선지서 포션을 읽는 전통(예슈아의 유대인 제자들은 신약성경 포션 추가)은 매우 오래된 것입니다. 공중 토라 낭독은 폐허가 된 예루살렘을 재건하고 복구하기 위해 에스라와 느헤미야가 귀환하면서 시작되었습니다. 느헤미야는 한밤중에 일어나 나귀를 타고 예루살렘을 돌아보며 70년 전에 남은 이 거룩한 도시의 파괴와 황폐상을 보고 내내 울었습니다.

제가 “베하알롯트하”를 현대적 표현으로 좀 더 단순화한다면, 이것은 “네가 불을 켤 때에!”가 될 것입니다. 이 토라 포션은 하나님께서 이 등잔대에 얼마나 주의를 기울이시는지를 보여줍니다. 이 일곱 촛대 등잔대에 대한 논의와 지시는 출애굽기 25장에서 시작되어 출애굽기 26장과 30, 35, 36, 37, 39, 40장까지 계속됩니다. 토라에는 금으로 된 이 나뭇가지 모양의 촛대(메노라)에 대한 본문이 아주 많습니다!

그 이유는 간단합니다: 빛은 광야의 성막과 솔로몬의 성전 안 지성소나 모든 성전이나 심지어 집에서도 꼭 필요합니다. 하나님의 말씀이 이것에 많은 주의를 기울이는 이유는 메노라, 즉 등잔대가 상징이기 때문입니다. 첫째, 메노라는 일곱 촛대가 있는데요, 창조의 날수를 나타냅니다. 둘째, 이것은 지탱하여 서 있게 해주는 버팀대가 하나 있고, 이는 하나님 자신을 나타냅니다. 셋째, 모든 촛대는 똑같은 종류이지만, 크기와 모양은 다릅니다. 메노라(등잔)의 한 쪽의 각각의 촛대는 다른 쪽에 그 짝이 있습니다. 촛대 중 단 하나만이 유일하고 독특합니다. 가운데 촛대는 이 가지 모양 촛대의 받침, 즉 하나님 자신과 곧바로 연결되어 있는데, 하나님 자신이 곧바로 뻗어 있는 존재는 세상의 “빛”입니다.

신약성경의 다음 본문들을 보십시오:

마태복음 5:14 “너희는 세상의 빛이라 산 위에 있는 동네가 숨겨지지 못할 것이요”

요한복음 8:12 “예수께서 또 말씀하여 이르시되 나는 세상의 빛이니 나를 따르는 자는 어둠에 다니지 아니하고 생명의 빛을 얻으리라”

일반적으로 산상수훈이라고 불리는 본문 안에 있는 마태복음 5:14는 아주 중요합니다: “너희”는 갈릴리 호수를 내려다보는 산꼭대기에서 예슈아께서 말씀하시는 대상인 이스라엘 사람들입니다. 그분께서 이스라엘 사람들에게 비유하고 계시는 동네는 아마 갈릴리 호수 바로 위 산 위에 있는 동네인 사페드였을 것입니다. 그리고 비유적으로 예루살렘은 “큰 임금(메시아)의 성”이라고 불립니다.

이 요한복음 8:12에서 예슈아께서는 그분의 제자들인 우리에게 큰 도전과 동시에 약속을 주고 계십니다. 그리고 그분께서 우리에게 주신 모든 것은 공짜 선물이 아니라, 조건적입니다. 하나님께서는 결코 아무에게도 공짜 선물을 주신 적이 없습니다. 여러분이 물이 필요하나 전혀 없을 때, 하나님께서는 여러분을 우물로 가는 길을 알려주시지만, 여러분은 여러분의 양동이를 사용하여 여러분 스스로 그 우물에서 물을 길어야 합니다. 여러분이 그분을 따르면, 여러분도 어둠이 아니라 빛 가운데 있게 됩니다. 여러분이 예슈아를 따르지 않으면, 여러분은 여러분의 삶의 빛을 켜는 전원 스위치를 결코 찾지 못할 것입니다. 여러분이 예슈아를 따르면, 여러분은 생명을 주는 빛인 예슈아 안에 다니게/살게 될 것입니다!

제게 흥미로운 것은 성령께서 성막의 지성소에 놓인 값지고 수제이며 꽤 크고 무거운 일체 메노라에 대해 얼마나 많은 관심과 지시를 주고 계시는가입니다. 제사장은 특별한 때와 이유로 오직 코하님(제사장들)만 들어가도록 허락된 곳 안에 빛을 비추기 위해 매일 아침 메노라를 밝히고 촛대를 다듬습니다.

예루살렘 성전이나 성막이 없는 오늘날 이와 연관된 것이 있을 것입니다. 지금 우리에게는 모임과 토라 두루마리의 안전한 보관과 안식일이나 바-미쯔바 (혹은 오늘날에는 밧트-미쯔바도) 때 토라 공중 낭독과 숙콧(초막절) 절기 마지막 날 토라 두루마리를 안고 춤추기 위한 유일한 물리적 장소인 회당이 있습니다.

고대 중동의 성전들은 빛이 적도록 특별히 만들어졌는데요, 그 이유는 공식적인 기능이 있는 건물들은 거대한 돌과 건축적 장식 요소들을 가지고 거대 규모로 지어졌기 때문입니다. 창에는 유리를 끼우지 않았고 오늘날의 창보다 훨씬 작았습니다. 창은 주로 환기를 위한 것이었고 낮의 빛이 들어와 신비롭게 어두침침한 빛으로 그 장소를 비추게 했습니다. 오직 특정 제사장들만 가지 모양의 이 촛대를 다루어, 소제하고 준비하고 등잔대(메노라)를 사용하고 계속 빛을 비추도록 할 수 있는 특권이 있었습니다. 토라는 한 곳 넘는 본문에서 이 메노라와 이 촛대의 줄기에 꾸민 금 장식을 묘사하고 있습니다.

이번 안식일 토라 포션의 민수기 8:1-2는 다음과 같습니다:

저는 이번 토라 포션에서 다음과 같이 이해했습니다:

오늘날 예슈아의 제자들인 우리에게는 하나님의 거룩한 자산을 지키고 보호하고 섬기고 돌봐야 하는 제사장적 의무가 있습니다. 이러한 자산은 하나님의 사람들이 사용하도록 보호되고 제공되어야 하는 계시와 보물입니다. 이스라엘 사람들과 이방인들은 성전 뜰에 들어가 하나님께 예배하는 것이 허용되었습니다. 이방인들은 문지방을 넘을 수 없다고 공표된 나지막한 벽을 지나 들어갈 수는 없었습니다. 랍비 라시의 주석은 성전 안과 주위에서 일하는 레위인들의 일 중 하나가 이스라엘 사람들만을 위한 성전 뜰을 지키고 여기에서 아무 관련이 없는 사람들을 밖에 머물러 있게 하는 것이며, 이것이 아론의 아들들의 책임이라는 것입니다. 아론의 아들들은 성전을 지키며 태생적으로 이스라엘인이 아닌 사람들은 오직 이스라엘 사람들만을 위한 두 번째 장소 밖에 있게 했습니다.

제게는 오늘날 기독교와 메시아닉 공동체에 주는 교훈이 지도자들 역시 거룩한 자산과 예배하러 오는 사람들을 지키고 보호하는 자가 되어야 한다는 것 같습니다. 이러한 보호와 돌봄은 물리적이고 동시에 영적입니다. 있을 수 있는 유일한 영적 보호는 창세기부터 요한계시록까지 성경을 보호하고 성경에 아주 신실한 것입니다. 하나님의 말씀에 더하거나 빼지 말고, 하나님의 말씀이 아닌 우물에서 물을 길지 마십시오. 여러분은 제가 이 점에 대해 너무 급진적이라고 생각하실지 모르지만, 여러분은 티베르강에서 긴 물인데 요단강이나 세겜에 있는 사마리아 우물이나 광야의 반석에서 긴 물인 척하는 물을 마실 수는 없습니다.

하나님의 촛대의 일곱 촛대를 모두 밝히기 전에 여러분의 불을 켜지 마십시오. 등잔이 여러분 자신이 아닌 사람들에게 향하게 하십시오. 아무도 아직 배 고픈 채로 혹은 기대어 울 어깨가 필요한 채로 성소를 떠나게 하지 마십시오. 여러분과 함께 예배하는 모든 사람이 잘 곳이 있는지, 우리 조상 야곱이 벧엘에서 그래야 했던 것처럼 돌을 베개로 사용하지는 않는지 알아보십시오. 우리가 세상에서 궁극적이고 가장 순전한 빛이신 예슈아를 반영한다면, 우리는 세상의 빛입니다. 랍비 유대교에 따르면, 성자 메시아의 발꿈치는 햇빛보다 더 밝다고 합니다.

하나님과 사람들을 섬기는 사람들은 명령을 지키고 하나님의 사람들에게 편의점이나 텔-아비브에 있는 중국식당에서 파는 신학 샌드위치의 뜻 모를 말이 아닌, 그들이 그것에 기대어 살아갈 건강한 음식을 먹일 거룩한 책임이 있습니다.

The Jerusalem Prayer List – 21 June, 2024

The Torah reading this Shabbat is BeHa'alotchah, one Hebrew word translated into the New King James Bible with several English words: "When you arrange the lamps." The seven lamps shall give Light in front of the lampstand. It is often the case that one Hebrew word requires several English words for translation. The Hebrew language is very compact and very small compared to English, German, or other European languages.

The Torah Portion BeHa'alotchah is from Numbers 8:1 – 12:16.
From the Prophets, the Haftarah is from Zechariah 2:14 – 4:7.
We will read the New Testament from 1 Corinthians 10:6-13 and Revelation 11:1-19.

The tradition of reading a Torah portion and a portion from the prophets on the Sabbath (the Jewish disciples of Yeshua added reading from the New Testament) is very ancient. The reading of the Torah in public started with Ezra and Nehemiah returning from Babylon to rebuild and restore Jerusalem in ruins. Nehemiah got up in the middle of the night to tour Jerusalem on his donkey and cried all the way, seeing the desolation and destruction that was left in the holy city 70 years earlier.

If I simplify BeHa'alotchah even more into contemporary English, it would be: "When you turn on the lights!" This Torah section shows how much attention God gives to the lampstand. The discussion and instruction for this seven-candle lampstand start in Exodus chapter 25 and continue to chapter 26 and Exodus 30, 35, 36, 37, 39, 40. There are so many texts in the Torah about this one golden candelabra (Menora)!

The reason is simple: Light is essential even inside the Holy place in the Tabernacle in the Wilderness, Solomon's temple, and every temple or home. The Word of God gives this much attention because the Menorah - lampstand is symbolic. First, the Menorah has seven candles, representing the days of creation. Second, it has one leg to stand on, representing God himself. Third, all the candles are the same type but different in size and shape. Each one of the candles on each side of the Menorah (The Lamp) has a partner on the other side. Only one of the candles is alone and unique. The central candle is directly connected to the foot of the candelabra, the foundation – God himself, and the direct extension of God Himself is the Light of the world.

Look at the following texts from the New Testament:

Matthew 5:14: "You are the Light of the world. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hidden."

John 8:12 Then Jesus spoke to them again, saying, "I am the Light of the world. He who follows Me shall not walk in darkness but have the Light of life."

John 9:5: "As long as I am in the world, I am the light of the world."

The text in Matthew 5:14, commonly called The Sermon on the Mountain, is so very important: "YOU"—this is the people of Israel that Yeshua was talking to on top of a hill overlooking the Sea of Galilee. The city that he was comparing the people of Israel to was probably Safed, a high city just above the Sea of Galilee. And metaphorically, Jerusalem is called "The City of the Great King,( Messiah.)

The text from John 8:12 takes a turn, and Yeshua speaks of himself and his followers. The followers today are "WE" – "US" – "YOU" who are disciples of Yeshua and followers of the Messiah. Yeshua makes a dramatic statement: "I am the light of the world!" Immediately, Yeshua turns to his disciples and says, "If you follow me! You will not walk in darkness but have a living light that gives life." Everyone who has studied physics knows that Light is physical and has great power, and without Light, nothing can live, not a plant in your garden or a mouse in your pantry.

In this verse from John 8:12, Yeshua is simultaneously giving us, his disciples, a great challenge and promise. And everything that He gives us is conditional, not a free gift. God has never given anyone a free gift. When you need water, and you don't have any – God will direct you to the well, but he will make you use your bucket and draw the water from the well for yourself. If you follow Him, you will also be in the Light, not darkness. If you don't follow Yeshua, you will never find the light switch to turn on the Light of your life. If you follow Yeshua, you will walk/live in the Light that gives life, i.e., Yeshua!

What is very interesting to me is how much care and instruction the Holy Spirit gives us in the Torah about one costly, handmade, oversized, and heavy Menora that only sits in the Holy part of the Tabernacle. The priest lit it each morning and trimmed the candles to give Light inside a place that only the Cohanim the priests were allowed to enter, which is only for special times and reasons.

There must be something relevant today when we don't have a temple or a tabernacle in Jerusalem. We now have synagogues that are only physical places for meetings and housing the Torah Scrolls in a safe and public place for reading on Shabbat or Bar-Mitzvah (or today also Bat-Mitzvah) and dancing with the scrolls on the last day of the celebration of Sukkoth.

The ancient temples in the Middle East were purpose-built with low lighting because buildings with official functions were built on a massive scale with massive stones and decorated architectural elements. The windows didn't have glass in them and were much smaller than today's. The windows were mainly for airflow and to allow daily Light to come in and illuminate the place with a mysterious, dim light. Only certain priests had the privilege of dealing with the candelabra, cleaning, preparing, using the lampstand (The Menorah), and keeping it giving Light. The Torah has more than one text describing the menorah and the gold decoration that was made on the stems of the candelabra.

Our Torah reading on this Shabbat from Numbers 8:1-2 with the following words:

"And the LORD spoke to Moses, saying: "Speak to Aaron, and say to him, 'When you arrange the lamps, the seven lamps shall give light in front of the lamp stand.'" (Numbers 8:1-2 NKJV)

Each part of the family of Aaron had a particular task given to them by Moses via the authority given by God. In Biblical history, authority over the work in the Tabernacle was explicitly given to each tribe and inside the tribe to a specific family. In this case, the general responsibility was given to the sons of Aaron together with the lighting, cleaning, and preparing the big sold gold menorah (The Candelabra). We have yet to determine which of Aaron's sons this responsibility was appointed. However, in Numbers chapter 18:1, we read these very stern warnings for those who serve in the Tabernacle:

"Then the LORD said to Aaron: "You and your sons and your father's house with you shall bear the iniquity related to the sanctuary, and you and your sons with you shall bear the iniquity associated with your priesthood." (Numbers 18:1 NKJV)

What a strange thing to say to Aaron and his sons. What do these words "bear the iniquity" mean in practical terms? The great medieval commentator Rashi, who was born in Worms near Frankfurt, Germany, says about this verse: "THOU, AND THY SONS, SHALL BEAR THE INIQUITY OF THE SANCTUARY" — upon you, I impose the punishment for any strangers who may inadvertently sin in respect to the sacred objects (המקדש)which are entrusted to you, — which are the tent, the Ark, the table and the holy vessels. Aaron's sons must sit down (i.e., wait there and be in readiness) and warn any stranger who may be about to touch the holy articles.

These words of Moses put ministry in God's House on a much more serious level. The first thing that Moses relates is that the Priests from the tribe of Levi, the dependents of Aaron, have a collective responsibility to guard and protect and make sure that all that is related to the Tabernacle is their responsibility.

I understand from our reading of the Torah the following:

Today, as Yeshua's disciples, we have a priestly duty to protect, guard, serve, and care for God's holy assets. Each of these assets is a revelation and a treasure to be protected and serviced for the use of God's people. Israelites and Gentiles were allowed to enter the Temple Courts and worship God. The Gentiles could not enter past the short wall that announced that Gentiles couldn't cross that threshold. Rabbi Rashi's commentary states that one of the tasks of the Levites working in and around the temple is to protect and keep those who have no business in the Temple courts for the Israelites only to stay out, which is the responsibility of the sons of Aaron. They guarded the temple and kept people who were not by birth Israelites out of the second stage, which was only for the Israelites.

It seems to me that the lesson for today in the Christian and Messianic communities is that leadership must also be a guard and protect the assets of Holiness and the people who come to worship. This protection and care is both physical and spiritual. The only spiritual protection that can exist is protecting and staying very faithful to the scripture from Genesis to Revelation. Don't add or subtract from God's Word or draw water from wells, not from God's Word. You might think I am too radical on this point, but you can't drink water from the Tiber River and pretend that it is the Jordan River, the well of Samaria in Schem, or the Rock in the Wilderness.

Every one of the founders of the denominations of Christianity was a false teacher who departed dramatically from the clear teaching and instruction of the Word of God, even if he, like Martin Luther, did one thing right by translating the Bible from Latin to the local German to be understood by the simple people, he did more damage in history than any of the benefits of his translation. A dear sister from Heidelberg, Germany, Maria Yilling, a direct descendent of Martin Luther, had a book that presented two different last wills and testaments that Luther wrote. He wrote one for the church, his followers, and the people with whom he was in deep financial debt. He also wrote a different last will and testament for his family, especially his wife. Maria read to me the testament that Luther wrote for his wife many years ago. It was so good to hear it, even in old German. The main point in that remarkable testament of Luther was, "Don't trust anyone." They are all bandits…."

It is imperative to read Ezekiel 34 for the Levites in ancient Israel and the Rabbis and Pastors of today. Use this scripture as a mirror to ensure that they, we, (and I) are walking as servants of God and man and have a holy responsibility to administer the order and protocol with pure hearts for the spiritual and physical protection of the population of God's people, and this is what the text from Numbers 18:1 says to me and I hope to you too.

Being a pastor, preacher, priest, or Rabbi is a grave and essential task. It is much less glamorous for most Rabbis and Preachers than it looks from the outside, and few are servants of God. Many are servants of men for self-aggrandizement or just for an ego trip. Please receive your orders from God's Word and make sure every day of your ministry that you turn on the Light of the Messiah Yeshua in the hearts of those you serve.

Don't turn on your Light before you have lit all seven candles on God's candelabra. Make the lamp face toward the people and not toward yourself. Ensure no one leaves the sanctuary hungry or needing a shoulder to cry on. Find out if everyone that worshiped with you has a place to sleep and not use a rock for a pillow like our father Jacob had to do in Beth-EL. We are the Light of the world if we reflect Yeshua, the ultimate and purest Light in the world. According to Rabbinical Judaism, the heels on the Messiah the Son's feet are brighter than the Light from the SUN.

Those who serve God and the people have a holy responsibility to keep order and feed the people of God healthy food that they need to live by, and not the mumbo-jumbo of theological sandwiches from 7-11 stores or a Chinese restaurant in Tel-Aviv.

From our Torah portion for this Shabbat, I learned that being a priest, a Cohen, or a Levite is a big responsibility, not a job. Today, it seems that this "HOLY" feeling of special reverence in the places of worship of both messianic and evangelical Christians and some modern Western "super reformed" and very "happy" synagogues have too much of Disney World's environment and too little Holiness and God's presence and simple reverence for God and His Son, Yeshua our Messiah.

We are waiting for you, dear Lord. Zion is a widow without you, and I ask all our non-Jewish brothers and sisters to mobilize and stand with us in prayer and support so that we can have a bride in Zion ready to receive her bridegroom any time, day or night with open arms and our candles (lamps) trimmed and shining holy Light to welcome Yeshua.

Please remember, if you do not like Jews and hate them, don't forget there will be Jews in Heaven; you can always go to the other place!

We realize the prayer list is long. We have updated it and will continue to update it. These brother and sisters that need your prayers are encouraged by them. Your prayers are knocking on heavens door for healing and provision for mostly old brothers and sisters. Please consider time spent in prayer a way to bridge Geography time and space asking God to heal and bless these people who need our prayers.

Your prayers for brothers and sisters you don’t know personally is a pure love and building of the Body of the Messiah. It is Agape Love since you are doing this without any selfish interests and casting a vote in heaven for someone who is your brother. Still, you don't know them, and God looks at these prayers that are unselfish and genuine expression of love and care for another link in the long chain of love and faith that binds us together even though we might not know each other in this world.

When we all get to Heaven, it will be a joy to meet people we prayed for and sometimes even cried for. Brothers and sisters who are physically strangers but spiritually a part of the same body of Christ, I believe that one day we will have the privilege to sit together and share: "I remember praying for you to be healed!" "I remember praying for you to be safe when you were fighting in Gaza to free the hostages from the cruel hands of the terrorists of the Hamas in Gaza."

Pray for the following brothers and sisters who need divine grace and the gentle touch of the hand of God for healing and strength.

 Jonathan Bernis is in a long six-month recovery from a liver transplant. We thank God for this match. Please pray for this new liver to function and provide much-needed function. Please pray for Elisangela and the girls and the doctors and nurses attending our dear brother Jonathan Bernis.

 Please pray for Danah, my daughter's health issues. I pray for the Lord to give Danah wisdom, peace, and calm in life and her work.

 Aaron Hook, Nancy Hook’s oldest son, needs our prayers for wisdom and healing from past life issues.

 Lift for blessing and healing Jonathan B., his wife Aviva, their new baby, his mother, and his brother Daniel.

 Pray for these important men of God: Rabbi Salt, his family, and Rabbi Hasselblad. They are both older and need protection and blessings.

 Also, pray for Ilana Avramov, who is married to my cousin Nissim and lives in New York City. Ilana has fallen and is now in rehab, learning how to walk again. We pray for her full recovery. She and Nissim both need our prayers.

 Pray for Steve Mock - His cognitive condition has declined, and we ask for the grace of God and His Healing and strength. Steve and Josie’s son Joseph has received a wonderful and glorious report. After the last bone marrow transplant, the report is that the doctors didn’t find any leukemia in his body! Praise the Lord!

I am asking a special prayer for a dear brother and friend who is now doing very important work in a very dangerous and precarious part of the world. Just mention DadyLion in your prayers and ask for divine protection and angelic accompaniment for this man of God.
