이번 주 토라 포션은 아주 흥미롭고 아주 중요한 가르침으로 가득합니다. 이 포션은 ‘후캍’이라고 하며 민수기 19:1~22:1입니다. 아주 길지 않은 포션이지만, 아주 중요한 이슈가 좀 있습니다.

선지자의 글에서 읽는 부분은 사사기 11:1-33입니다. 예슈아의 유대인 제자들 회중이 보통 신약성경에서 읽는 부분은 요한복음 3:10-22입니다. 저는 이 기도 목록에서 요한복음 3장에서도 해설을 하고, 히브리서 13장에서도 좀 더 적당한 본문을 가져올 것입니다.

민수기 19장은 가장 불가사의한 의식이자 가장 이상한 제사 중 하나로 시작합니다. 하나님께서 모세에게 명령하십니다:

“여호와께서 모세와 아론에게 말씀하여 이르시되 여호와께서 명령하시는 법의 율례를 이제 이르노니 이스라엘 자손에게 일러서 온전하여 흠이 없고 아직 멍에 메지 아니한 붉은 암송아지를 네게로 끌어오게 하고.” – 민수기 19:1–2

바로 이 본문 시작부터 좀 색다르고 특이한 명령이 있습니다:

1. 모세와 아론은 이스라엘 자손에게 일러서 흠이 없고 아직 멍에 메지 아니한 붉은 암송아지를 끌어오게 하라는 명령을 받습니다.

a. 본문 말씀은 일을 쉽게 만들고 있지 않습니다. 이스라엘 자손은 붉은 암송아지를 끌어와야 합니다. 본문 말씀은 암송아지가 갈색이거나 검거나 흰색 부분이 몸에 있어서는 안 되고 온통 붉어야 한다고 가리키고 있습니다. 소의 온 몸이 완전히 붉어야 합니다.

b. 그럼 이스라엘 자손 중에서 누가 온통 붉고 한 번도 멍에를 멘 적이 없이 완전히 새 것이지만 성숙한 그렇게 흔치 않은 암송아지를 찾아 끌어올 책임이 있었을까요?

c. 점 없이 완벽하게 붉은 색 암송아지를 생산하는 것은 힘든 일이었을 것입니다.

2. “너는 그것을 제사장 엘르아살에게 줄 것이요 그는 그것을 진영 밖으로 끌어내어서 자기 목전에서 잡게 할 것이며 제사장 엘르아살은 손가락에 그 피를 찍고 그 피를 회막 앞을 향하여 일곱 번 뿌리고 그 암소를 자기 목전에서 불사르게 하되 그 가죽과 고기와 피와 똥을 불사르게 하고.” – 민수기 19:3-5

a. 붉은 암송아지는 제사장 엘르아살에게 줄 것이고 그는 그것을 이스라엘 진영 밖으로 가지고 갈 것이며 다른 사람이 이 붉은 암송아지를 잡을 것입니다. 제사장은 이 붉은 암송아지의 피를 조금 가지고 다시 진영 안으로 돌아가 회막 바로 앞에서 손가락으로 일곱 번 뿌릴 것입니다.

b. 그 붉은 암송아지는 가죽과 고기와 피와 똥까지 완전히 불사를 것입니다.

3. “제사장은 자기의 옷을 빨고 물로 몸을 씻은 후에 진영에 들어갈 것이라 그는 저녁까지 부정하리라 송아지를 불사른 자도 자기의 옷을 물로 빨고 물로 그 몸을 씻을 것이라 그도 저녁까지 부정하리라.” – 민수기 19:7-8

a. 붉은 암송아지를 만지거나 다룬 사람은 부정하게 됩니다. 그들은 그들의 몸을 씻고 옷을 빨고 다음 날 아침까지는 부정합니다.

b. 여러분은 이 붉은 암송아지와 이 암송아지의 재가 이스라엘 자손 및 이스라엘 진영의 일원인 이스라엘인이 아닌 사람들을 정결케 하는 데에 필수적이라는 것을 압니다. 사실 정결케 하기 위한 바로 이 붉은 암송아지가 정한 사람을 부정하게 만드는 것입니다. 바로 그 암송아지의 재가 정한 사람을 부정하게 만드는 것입니다.

4. 이 이슈와 관련하여 주후 70년 예루살렘 함락과 성전 파괴 직후 탈무드에서 흥미로운 랍비 문헌을 여러분과 나누고 싶습니다.

5. “어떤 이방인이 랍비 요하난 벤 자카이에게 물었다, ‘일종의 마술 같아 보이는 이것들에 대한 것입니다. 93 민수기 19:8; PRK 4:7; PR 14:14. 암송아지를 가져와 불사르고 그것을 빻아 재를 얻지요. 그리고 사람 중 하나가 시체로 인해 더럽혀졌을 때 사람들이 두세 방울을 그 사람에게 뿌리고 그에게 말하죠, “당신은 정결케 되었습니다.”’ 그가 그 사람에게 물었다, ‘악한 미친 영이 당신 안으로 들어간 적이 있소?’ 그 사람은 그에게 대답했다, ‘아뇨.’ 그가 그 사람에게 물었다, ‘혹시 악한 영이 들어간 어떤 사람을 본 적이 있소?’

그 사람은 그에게 대답했다, ‘네.’ 그는 그 사람에게 물었다, ‘그래서 당신은 그를 위해 뭘 했소?’ 그 사람은 그에게 대답했다, ‘사람들이 뿌리를 가져다 그 사람 아래에서 그것을 태웁니다. 그런 다음 사람들이 [그 영]에 물을 뿌립니다. 그러면 그것이 달아납니다.’ 그는 그 사람에게 말했다, ‘당신이 당신 입으로 발설한 것을 당신 귀로 들으시오. 마찬가지로 이 영도 부정한 영이오.

이와 같이 일렀소(스가랴 13:2), “(내가) 거짓 선지자와 더러운 귀신을 이 땅에서 떠나게 할 것이라.” 사람들이 정하게 하는 물을 그에게 뿌리면 그가 달아나는 것이오.’ 그 이방인이 떠나고 난 후, [랍비 요하난의] 제자들이 그에게 말했다, ‘선생님, 선생님께서는 ‘[단지] 한 마디 [대답]으로 이 자를 쫓아냈습니다. 저희에게 해 주실 말씀은 무엇입니까?’ 그가 그들에게 대답했다, ‘너희의 삶을 두고 말하노니, 시체가 더럽히는 것이 아니며, 암송아지가 정결케 하는 것도 아니며, 물이 정결케 하는 것도 아니다. 오히려 송축받으실 거룩하신 분께서 말씀하셨다, “내가 너희에게 율례를 세웠다, 내가 율례를 내었다, 너희는 내 율례를 어겨 범하지 못한다.”

이와 같이 기록되었다(민수기 19:2), “이것이 법의 율례다.” 모든 제물이 숫컷과 암컷인데 그것만 [유일하게] 암컷인 것은 무슨 이유인가? 94 PRK 4:8. 랍비 아예부가 말했다, ‘이것은 왕의 궁궐을 더럽힌 여종의 아들에 견줄 수 있다. 95 라틴어: 프래토리움.(본부, 장군 막사, 총독의 궁, 대저택) 헬라어: 프라이토리옴. 왕이 말했다, “그의 어미가 와서 똥을 치우게 하라.” 마찬가지로 송축받으실 거룩하신 분께서 말씀하셨다, “암소가 와서 [금]송아지 사건을 대속하게 하라.”’” – 미드라쉬 탄후마, 후캍 8

6. 이 말씀은 예슈아를 메시아로 믿는 우리에게 매우 중요한 몇 가지 원칙을 증거하는 아주 중요한 증거입니다.

7. 랍비 요하난 벤 자카이는 가장 중요한 1세기 랍비 중 한 명입니다. 그는 주후 30년에 성전 파괴를 예언한 세 명 중 한 명입니다. 예슈아께서 십자가에 달리시기 전에 예루살렘의 몰락을 예언하신 것과 동시대입니다. 이제 성전은 파괴되었고 예전의 제사제도도 모두 폐기되었기에 그는 합리적인 대답을 해주어야 했습니다. 그의 대답은 놀라웠습니다. 그것은 히브리서 저자가 9-10장에서 제시한 것과 같은 입장이었습니다. 그러나 더 놀라운 것은 히브리서가 예슈아를 유일하게 진영 밖에서 우리 죄와 부정함을 정하게 할 수 있는 붉은 송아지로 제시하고 있다는 것입니다. 히브리서 13장의 해당 말씀입니다:

8. “우리에게 제단이 있는데 장막에서 섬기는 자들은 그 제단에서 먹을 권한이 없나니 이는 죄를 위한 짐승의 피는 대제사장이 가지고 성소에 들어가고 그 육체는 영문 밖에서 불사름이라 그러므로 예수도 자기 피로써 백성을 거룩하게 하려고 성문 밖에서 고난을 받으셨느니라 그런즉 우리도 그의 치욕을 짊어지고 영문 밖으로 그에게 나아가자 우리가 여기에는 영구한 도성이 없으므로 장차 올 것을 찾나니 그러므로 우리는 예수로 말미암아 항상 찬송의 제사를 하나님께 드리자 이는 그 이름을 증언하는 입술의 열매니라.” – 히브리서 13:10–15

9. 이것은 제 생각에 민수기 19장과 연결시키지 않아 간과되어 온 극히 중요한 말씀입니다. 하나님께 드리는 제사 중 유일하게 진영 밖에서 불사르라고 명령된 제사는 붉은 송아지뿐입니다.

저자는 예슈아를 궁극적으로 우리 죄와 부정함을 정하게 할 수 있는 붉은 송아지로 연결시키고 있습니다. 할렐루야!

코로나바이러스는 이스라엘과 세계 여러 곳에 여전히 살아 있고 번성하고 있습니다. 이스라엘 정부는 학교와 식당을 여는 것을 허락했고, 며칠 안 되어 대중교통, 결혼식, 유흥지도 여는 것을 허락했습니다. 그 결과 예상대로 코로나바이러스에 감염되어 병든 사람 수가 급격히 증가했고, 이스라엘 병원들 중환자실에 인공호흡기를 쓴 사람도 늘었습니다.

우리는 온 세상이 회개하고 주님을 찾도록 기도해야 합니다. 이 바이러스와 전염병은 성경의 다른 모든 염병과 같습니다. 최소로 보아도 이것은 주님 안에 있는 우리 친구들과 형제자매님들 모두에게 시험이자 자기 성찰을 촉구하는 일입니다. 이것은, 일반적으로 말해서, 적어도 전 세계 종교계 및 비종교권의 죄악된 행위와 부패에 대한 하나님으로부터의 벌입니다.

The Jerusalem Prayer List

This week’s Torah reading is full of very interesting and very important teachings. The reading is from a portion called Chukat – Numbers 19:1-22:1. It is not a very long reading, but it has some very important issues.

From the Prophets the reading is from Judges 11:1-33. From the New Testament the normal reading in many congregations of Jewish disciples of Yeshua comes from The Gospel of John 3:10-22. I will comment in this prayer list from both John 3, and also bring in a more appropriate reading from Hebrews chapter 13.

Numbers 19 starts with one of the most mysterious ceremonies and strangest sacrifices. God commands Moses:

“Now the Lord spoke to Moses and Aaron, saying, ‘This is the ordinance of the law which the Lord has commanded, saying: “Speak to the children of Israel, that they bring you a red heifer without blemish, in which there is no defect and on which a yoke has never come.”’” – Numbers 19:1–2 [NKJV]

Right from the beginning of this text there are some different and unique commands:

1. Moses and Aaron are commanded to ask the children of Israel to bring a red heifer without blemish, a new one that has not been used for work.

a. The text does not make things easy. The children of Israel are to bring a red heifer, a red cow. The text indicates that the whole cow ought to be red and not one brown or black or white spot can be on this cow. The whole beast is to be completely red.

b. Then who from the children of Israel is responsible to find and to bring such a rare cow that is totally red and has never been used for work, a totally new but mature cow that is red?

c. It would be hard to produce such a cow of red color without a blemish, a perfect red cow.

2. “You shall give it to Eleazar the priest, that he may take it outside the camp, and it shall be slaughtered before him; and Eleazar the priest shall take some of its blood with his finger, and sprinkle some of its blood seven times directly in front of the tabernacle of meeting. Then the heifer shall be burned in his sight: its hide, its flesh, its blood, and its offal shall be burned.” – Numbers 12:3-5 [NKJV]

a. The red cow will be given to Eleazar the priest and he will take it outside the camp of Israel, and someone else will slaughter this red cow, and the priest will take some of the blood of this red cow and return back to the camp and sprinkle seven time with his finger directly in front of the tabernacle of meeting.

b. The red cow shall be burned fully with the hide, and flesh, blood, and offal (excrement).

3. “Then the priest shall wash his clothes, he shall bathe in water, and afterward he shall come into the camp; the priest shall be unclean until evening. And the one who burns it shall wash his clothes in water, bathe in water, and shall be unclean until evening.” – Numbers 12:7-8 [NKJV]

a. The men who touch the red cow or deal with her will become unclean. They will have to wash themselves and their clothing and remain unclean until the next morning.

b. You understand that this red cow and the ashes of this cow are essential for the purification of the children of Israel and of the non-Israelites that are a part of the camp of Israel. This very red cow that is actually for purification, will make a pure person defiled. The same ashes of the same cow will make a pure person impure.

4. I would like to share with you an interesting rabbinical text from the Talmud related to this issue from just after the fall of Jerusalem and the destruction of the temple in 70 AD.

5. “A certain stranger questioned Rabban Johanan ben Zakkai, ‘These things which you do seem like a kind of sorcery. 93Numb. R. 19:8; PRK 4:7; PR 14:14. You bring a heifer, burn it, pound it, and take its ashes. Then [when] one of you is defiled by a corpse, they sprinkle two or three drops on him, and you say to him, “You are clean.”’ He said to him, ‘Have you ever had a bad spirit of madness enter you?’ He told him, ‘No.’ He said to him, ‘Perhaps you have seen someone into whom a bad spirit has entered?’

He told him, ‘Yes.’ He said to him, ‘So what did you do for him?’ He said to him, ‘They bring roots and burn them beneath him. Then they sprinkle water on [the spirit], and it flees.’ He said to him, ‘Let your ears hear what you are uttering with your mouth. Similarly is this spirit an unclean spirit.

Thus it is stated (in Zechariah 13:2), “and I will also remove the prophets and the unclean spirit from the land.” They sprinkle the purifying water upon him, and he flees.’ After the gentile had left, [R. Johanan's] disciples said to him, ‘Our master, you repelled this one with a [mere] reed [of an answer]. What have you to say to us?’ He said to them, ‘By your lives, a corpse does not defile, nor does a heifer purify, nor does water purify. Rather, the Holy One, blessed be He, has said, “I have enacted a statute for you. I have issued a decree, [and] you are not allowed to transgress against my decree.”

Thus it is written (in Numbers 19:2), “This is the statute of the Torah.” And for what reason are all the sacrifices male and female, while that one is [only] female? 94PRK 4:8. R. Ayyevu said, ‘It is comparable to the son of a female slave who defiled a king's palace. 95Lat.: praetorium Gk.: praitoriom. The king said, “Let his mother come and clean up the excrement.” Similarly has the Holy One, blessed be He, said, “Let a heifer come and atone for the incident of the [golden] calf.”’” – Midrash Tanchuma, Chukat 8

6. This text is an extremely important witness of several principles of great importance to those of us who believe in Yeshua as the messiah.

7. Rabbi Jochanan ben Zakkai is one of the most important rabbis in the first century AD. He is one of the three that predicted the destruction of the temple in the year 30 AD. The same time that Yeshua predicted the fall of Jerusalem before the crucifixion. Now that the temple is destroyed and the whole old system of sacrifice is obsolete he has to give a rational answer. His answer is amazing. It is the same position that the writer of the book of Hebrews presents in chapters 9-10. However the more amazing is that the book of Hebrews presents Yeshua as the red heifer that can only purify our sins and impurities outside the camp. Here is the text from Hebrews chapter 13:

8. “We have an altar from which those who serve the tabernacle have no right to eat. For the bodies of those animals, whose blood is brought into the sanctuary by the high priest for sin, are burned outside the camp. Therefore Jesus also, that He might sanctify the people with His own blood, suffered outside the gate. Therefore let us go forth to Him, outside the camp, bearing His reproach. For here we have no continuing city, but we seek the one to come. Therefore by Him let us continually offer the sacrifice of praise to God, that is, the fruit of our lips, giving thanks to His name.” – Hebrews 13:10–15 [NKJV]

9. This is a text of extreme importance that I fear has been neglected because it has not been connected with the text of Numbers chapter 19. The only sacrifice to God commanded to be burned outside the camp is the red heifer.

The writer connects Yeshua as the ultimate red heifer that can purify our sins and impunity. Hallelujah!

The coronavirus is still alive and well in Israel and in other parts of the world. The Israeli government allowed for the opening of the schools, and restaurants, and in a few days public transportation, weddings, and entertainment. The result was as expected and the numbers of those who became infected and sick with the coronavirus has increased drastically, as well as the number of people who are placed on respirators in intensive care in the hospitals of Israel.

We need to pray for the whole world to repent and to seek the Lord. This virus and plague is like all the other plagues in the Bible. At a minimum, it is a test and call for self-examination for all of our friends and brothers and sisters in the Lord. It is generally speaking, at least a punishment from God for the sinful behavior and corruption of the religious and secular communities the world over.

Danah our daughter needs much prayer for her situation and so does our granddaughter Noaam. Please lift Danah and Noaam in your prayers. There are millions of people around the world that are in a lockdown at home.

Some are forced by the government and for their own good to stay at home and others who have preconditions by their own choice. It is hard to stay at home and to not go out.

The congregation meets with a few brave souls in the building and also shares the services with Zoom. Brothers and sisters from around the world share our worship with Zoom.

This is something new and it is spreading globally. I suppose we should thank the Lord even though the Zoom is also made in China. The Shulam family worldwide is voluntarily locked in at home and working from home.

Danah and Noaam have been at home now for two months. They are basically not going out, Noaam is doing school online, and Danah is working from home. Danah suffers from breathing difficulties as a result of allergies and also has asthma.

Please keep praying for the USA, the horrible events and riots and lack of balance in the response to the death of George Floyd. Order and respect between the people and the police in the different communities must be restored, and God can help if people would turn toward the almighty creator of our universe.

Please keep our dear sister from Brazil Michelle O., in your prayers. Please pray for all our brothers in Brazil. Brazil is in one of the most difficult situations with the Coronavirus right now.

Two dear sisters in Japan have passed from this world to a better world: Sister Anna Yoshida, from the Kyoto Glory Church died in her sleep. She suffered from a very serious cancer. The Lord took her with a kiss. Sister Watanabe from Nagoya also died this week. She was a luminary in the body of the messiah in Japan. She suffered for many years from severe rheumatoid arthritis. But she was always cheerful and encouraging and carrying, and had an electrifying smile.

Please add to your prayers a special prayer for the following brothers and sisters who need divine intervention on their behalf: Angela I, Rachael and Daniel a brother and sister who need jobs and emotional healing. Also add Tony B., and Aries Franklin Mayers Sr. Thank you for praying for Nancy and Don Hook.

Nancy had kidney surgery on Sunday morning and praise God for her quick recovery and return to work at Netivyah already on Wednesday. Keep praying for the following brothers and sisters, Rachel – Jingyung Lee, Dr. Yuikizawa, Tiz H., Lion H., Ilana Abramov, Ruby L., Angela from Taiwan.

The coronavirus is not over and the worldwide economic damage to jobs and household income is also great. We need to pray for both the health of the people and also for the economic effect of the coronavirus around the whole world. We need to pray for recovery on both counts. The coronavirus that kills the elderly and chronically sick older people, but also pray for the businesses and industries that are suffering and the great number of unemployed people around the whole world.

A special request for a sister from India who is diagnosed with breast cancer and asked for prayer. The name of the sister is Cynthia and she needs our prayers.

I heard from Ann West’s son that Ann West is 100 years old and still sharp and going strong. Pray for those who are looking for new jobs to be blessed with better jobs than they had before the coronavirus. Please pray for those who have private businesses to be blessed with a quick recovery and to move to a level of even greater success and blessing than what they had before this plague.

Sunday morning is the beginning of our prime minister’s court trial. He is being charged with three serious charges. I am not happy that this is happening in Israel, but I am praying that true justice and righteousness is exhibited in our court system. The truth must come out and I am not interested in a second prime minister of Israel going to jail. We have had a president in jail, a finance minister in jail, a minister of interior affairs in jail, and a member of the parliament in jail. Enough!

The coronavirus is threatening the economy of the world with a great recession and depression. Some of our major supporters have already lowered the amount of their support. They have done this not only toward Netivyah, but for all the ministries that they are supporting, and they are many. I would like to first ask you to pray about your part in supporting Netivyah Bible Instruction Ministry.

Second, I would like for you who stand with us in prayer and financially to do your absolute best to stay on board with us and communicate. We realize that times will be hard for several years, but we also realize that God has chosen and blessed you for such a time as this.
 

I wish all of you, who stand with Israel and who pray for Jerusalem, the best of the Lord’s blessings and the fulfillment of all His promises to His faithful children. Those who hear God and do His will are the ones who are called wise! Those who only hear His word and don’t do it are called foolish! Let us all strive to be wise and never foolish!
