요셉 슐람, 이스라엘 예루살렘 오늘밤은 모든 유대인에게 오순절 전야입니다. 2020년 5월 29일 금요일이 오순절 날입니다. 이 날은 “오메르”-이삭단을 세는 마지막 날입니다. 토라는 이스라엘에게 유월절부터 50일을 세라고 명합니다. 유월절에 밀 추수가 시작되어 오순절에 밀 추수가 끝납니다. 유월절부터 오순절까지 50일이 있습니다. 오순절은 시내산에서 토라를 주신 날이기도 합니다. 이 날은 예례미야 31:31-37 말씀이 이루어지는 날이기도 합니다. 이날은 요엘 선지자의 예언이 이루어지는 날이기도 합니다. 즉, 오순절은 이스라엘 남자들이 예루살렘으로 올라오라고 명령 받은 세 절기(하나님의 절기) 중 하나로서, 땅의 첫 소산을 가지고 오는 절기입니다. 이번 안식일에 읽을 토라 포션은 파라샷 “나소”, 민수기 4:21~7:89이며, 하프타라(선지자의 글에서)는 사사기 13:2-25이고, 신약성경에서는 사도행전 21:17-28입니다. 이번 안식일에 읽는 이 말씀들 모두 아주 중요하며 모두 서로 연결되어 있고 관련이 있습니다. 부디 성경을 읽으시기 바랍니다! by Joseph Shulam, Jerusalem, Israel Tonight is the eve of Pentecost for all Jews. Friday, May 29th, 2020 is the day of Pentecost. It is the end of the counting of the “Omer” – the sheaves. The Torah commands Israel to count 50 days from the Passover, and the Passover is the beginning of the Wheat harvest and Pentecost is the end of the wheat harvest. There are 50 days in between the Passover and Pentecost. Pentecost is also the day of the giving of the Torah on Mount Sinai. It is also the day when Jeremiah 31:31-37, is fulfilled. It is also the day of the fulfillment of the prophecy of Joel the prophet. So, Pentecost is one of the three holidays (God’s Season) on which the Israelites were commanded to come up to Jerusalem and bring their first fruit from the land. The Torah Reading on Shabbat will be Parashat Nasso, Numbers 4:21 – 7:89, haftarah (from the prophets) Judges 13:2-25, and from the New Testament Acts 21:17-28. All these readings on this next Shabbat are of great importance and they are all connected and related to one another. Please read the Bible! There is nothing that can replace your own private reading of the text of God’s word. There is no preacher or pastor or modern day “prophet” that can give you what the “straight up” word of God can give to teach, guide, instruct, educate, and inspire you. Our Prime Minister Mr. Benjamin Netanyahu has appeared before the judges of the Israeli District Court to be tried on three counts - bribery, breach of trust, and again bribery. We are commanded to pray for our leaders, including our political leaders. I am asking you to pray for your leaders and for our leaders also. You could say why should we pray for our leaders…? I will answer that when Paul made this command to the church in Rome and when Yeshua said to his disciples in the land of Israel, “Give unto Caesar that which is Caesar’s” - the Caesar in Rome was Tiberius who ruled between 14 AD. and 37 AD. All of Yeshua’s ministry in the land of Israel was during the reign of Tiberius who was not a vegetarian. He was an insecure emperor and as long as his mother Livia lived she ruled over him and when she died he gave orders that some of his friends and generals, specifically Germanicus and others be put out of the way. In short, when we were commanded by Paul to pray for our rulers, the ruler was no saint, and for sure, Mr. Benjamin Netanyahu would be considered a saint next to those Roman Caesars So, yes, we pray for Benjamin Netanyahu and we pray that the courts in Israel will find him innocent and of being falsely accused. This is his claim and until proven differently I hope that his claim is the truth. I also am praying for the governments of the United States and of Brazil because we have brothers and friends there and we wish both countries blessings and success. Please pray for Donald Trump as well and for his administration that has to deal with this pandemic that has already taken several hundreds of thousands of lives around the world. The damage to the world economy might take even more lives from hunger and economic collapse. The world needs help from our God, who is the only living God who can help on a world level… Now about the reading for this shabbat. All of it is interesting and is good for us to read and know. But, I can’t resist writing about Samson and the text from Acts 21:17-28. The story of Samson is well known and of course that story made Delilah famous. Nothing is accidental with the word of God. Every detail is important and in this story we have the first case when a person is chosen even before his birth and given a divine task to be a judge in Israel and deliver Israel from the yoke of the Philistines. Notice that the tribe of Dan was given a territory reaching from the coast of the Mediterranean Sea on their western boarder to the low hill country bordering the Judean Mountains on their eastern. Samson’s country was where the town of Beit Shemesh was and still is. His birth place between Zorah and Eshtaol was right on one of the most important highways in the land of Israel. It was on the highway that connected Jaffa with Jerusalem and Jerusalem with Amman on the other side of the Jordan River. It is this highway that made Jaffa so important and Jerusalem so important and Jericho so important. This highway was a bypass around the Via Maris (The highway by the Sea) and the King’s Highway on the other side of the Jordan River. These two highways, the Highway by the Sea and the King’s Highway, were the most important highways in the world at that time. They connected three continents, and they connected the two great empires, Egypt and Assyria (Babylon). The Philistines came to this region from the Island of Crete (See Amos 9:7-11). They came to conquer Egypt, but Egypt was too strong for them and they settled north of Egypt on the Mediterranean coast between Gaza and Jaffa. This is the reason why Dan could not hold their God given territory and had to move north and take the town of Layish in the land of the three rivers in the foothills of Mt. Hermon. Today the area is called Dan! So, God called and prepared Samson to deliver his tribe from the hand of their oppressors, the Philistines. Well, like Jonah after Samson, he did not like his job. He liked those European, white skinned good-looking honky-tonk women like Delilah. This was his downfall. She was his escape. The Philistines had a much more advanced technology, faster computers, and faster women. The tribe of Dan in the low country were farmers and “hicks” in the eyes of the good-looking strong man Samson. So, he didn’t like his divine calling and tried to escape it. The point of the story, like that of Jonah the prophet, is that when God puts His finger on you and calls you, and equips you with special gifts and tools to get your job done, He will see that you get your job done one way or another. Either in glory or in misery, you will be used by God to accomplish your mission. I realize that Americans don’t like this attitude, but don’t argue with me, argue with God. I do believe that we have a free will and I don’t believe in pre-destination, or in John Calvin, but I do believe that God calls people and gives them life and the necessary tools to accomplish their calling. One way or another they will in the end accomplish the job that the Creator gave them from birth. This is a very simplistic teaching of a much more complex situation. But, this is a prayer list with only minor opportunity for teaching. The reading from the New Testament from Acts 21:17-28, is another fascinating and important text that for some reason Christians don’t pay much attention to. Paul is on his way to Jerusalem to celebrate the feast of Pentecost. He is bringing with him the first fruit of his labor in the ministry of Yeshua the messiah among the Gentiles. With Paul there are seven Gentile men whom he has brought to the Lord and discipled. Paul is also bringing the money that he raised from the congregations in Asia Minor (today’s Turkey) and from Greece. We have the mention of Paul’s fund raising efforts in every one of his letters. In some, like in Romans 15:25-27, Paul is very bold and he says to the Romans: “But now I am going to Jerusalem to minister to the saints. For it pleased those from Macedonia and Achaia to make a certain contribution for the poor among the saints who are in Jerusalem. It pleased them indeed, and they are their debtors. For if the Gentiles have been partakers of their spiritual things, their duty is also to minister to them in material things.” – Romans 15:25–27 [NKJV] Please note that he is very tough toward the Roman Church and says that the Gentiles have a duty to minister to their Jewish brothers in Jerusalem. In 1 Corinthians 16:1-3, Paul is much softer, but it is clear that he is raising money. In 2 Corinthians 8-9, Paul is again much stronger and more demanding in his fund raising. For the delivery of this money that he raised, Paul made a vow outside of Corinth to go by all means to celebrate the next feast in Jerusalem. He arrives in Jerusalem and goes to the temple and this is what Paul declares to the rulers: “Now after many years I came to bring alms and offerings to my nation, in the midst of which some Jews from Asia found me purified in the temple, neither with a mob nor with tumult…” – Acts 24:17,18 [NKJV] The money that he raised for the poor saints in Jerusalem was given to “my nation.” This means that for Paul the saints in Jerusalem were not only the disciples of Yeshua but “my nation.” This is a very important point that needs to be considered. It is especially important in light of Acts 21:17-28. Notice what was going on in the congregation of the Jewish disciples of Yeshua in Jerusalem. Jacob (in English James) the brother of Yeshua comes to meet Paul and his followers as they arrive in Jerusalem. Paul tells Jacob how the Lord has blessed his ministry among the Gentiles and Jacob and the elders of the Jerusalem church respond to Paul: “On the following day Paul went in with us to James, and all the elders were present. When he had greeted them, he told in detail those things which God had done among the Gentiles through his ministry. And when they heard it, they glorified the Lord. And they said to him, ‘You see, brother, how many myriads of Jews there are who have believed, and they are all zealous for the law.’” – Acts 21:18–20 [NKJV] This was the end of Paul’s active ministry among the Gentiles. From Jerusalem a few days later he was taken to Caesarea by the Sea and stayed there two years under house arrest and from there he went to Rome and died in Rome around the year 66 AD. In Jerusalem there were tens of thousands of Jews who had believed in Yeshua and become His disciples and they were all zealous for the Torah. This text I have never heard preached in any Church around the world. If you consider this text and take it seriously your view of the New Testament Church has to be modified to allow that your Jewish brothers too could be believers and also zealous for the Torah and to bless them if they so chose then or so choose now. Don’t judge them and they too must not judge their non-Jewish brothers and sisters. We have Romans 14, that teaches this, and we have Colossians 2:16,17 teaching the same. The heritage from the Roman Church has caused such a divide and such a barrier for Jewish people to accept Yeshua the king of the Jews.

Sunday morning is the beginning of our prime minister’s court trial. He is being charged with three serious charges. I am not happy that this is happening in Israel, but I am praying that true justice and righteousness are exhibited in our court system.
The truth must come out and I am not interested in a second prime minister of Israel going to jail. We have had a president in jail, a finance minister in jail, a minister of interior affairs in jail, and a member of the parliament in jail. Enough!
The coronavirus is threatening the economy of the world with a great recession and depression. Some of our major supporters have already lowered the amount of their support. They have done this not only toward Netivyah, but for all the ministries that they are supporting, and they are many.
I would like to first ask you to pray about your part in supporting Netivyah Bible Instruction Ministry. Second, I would like for you who stand with us in prayer and financially to do your very best to stay on board with us and to communicate. We realize that times will be hard for several years, but we also realize that God has chosen and blessed you for such a time as this.
I wish all of you, who stand with Israel and who pray for Jerusalem, the best of the Lord’s blessings and the fulfillment of all His promises to His faithful children. Those who hear God and do His will are the ones who are called wise! Those who only hear His word and don’t do it are called foolish! Let us all strive to be wise and never foolish!
