천국

마태복음 13:31-33에서 예슈아께서는 두 가지 비유를 가르치십니다: 하나는 천국을 겨자씨에 비유하신 것이고 다른 하나는 누룩에 비유하신 것입니다. 그에 앞서 주님께서는 마태복음 13:24-30에서 알곡과 쭉정이 가르침에서 좋은 씨와 나쁜 씨에 대해 말씀하십니다.

각 비유에서 우리는 어떻게 작은 씨앗이 어떤 상황의 결과나 인접한 환경에 그렇게 심오한 영향을 끼칠 수 있는지 교훈을 받습니다. 이 예는 한 여인이 많은 양의 밀가루와 비교되는 작은 양의 누룩을 넣었을 때에 대한 누룩 비유에서 가장 잘 나타납니다.

어떤 일이 일어났느냐 하면 그 밀가루나 그 환경은 처음부터 영향을 받지만 그것이 숨겨져 있거나 보이지 않기 때문에 그 영향이 즉각적으로 감지되지 않는다는 것입니다. 오랫동안 밀 속에 아무런 변화가 없는 듯이 보일지라도, 밖으로 나타난 모습은 진짜 상태가 아니라는 것입니다. 왜냐하면 밀가루에서 반죽으로 변하는 과정이 시작되었기 때문입니다.

예슈아께서 이 비유들을 말씀하실 때, 그분께서 우리를 불러 하라고 하신 것은 사람들 마음에 씨를 심고 누룩을 두라는 것입니다. 지금은 그들이 하나님으로부터 멀리 떨어져 있을지라도 우리는 우리가 그들의 마음에 둔 씨나 누룩이 안에서 무슨 일을 하고 있는지 모릅니다. 우리는 그들이 어디쯤의 과정에 있는지 모릅니다.

예슈아 당시 작은 누룩이었던 것이 우리 시대에 얼마나 진전했는지 보십시오. 그것은 예슈아를 영접했던 열두 제자로 시작되었고, 사도행전 15:12에서 2년 후에 함께 모인 사람들의 수는 120명이었습니다. 고린도전서 15:6에서는 예슈아께서 500여 명의 형제들에게 그분을 보이셨다는 것을 볼 수 있습니다. 그런 다음 오순절이 왔을 때 성령이 부어지고 새로 믿는 사람들이 3,000명이나 하나님의 나라에 들어왔습니다. 이 사건은 사도행전 4:4의 기술로 이어지는데요, 여기에는 성도(聖都)에 믿는 사람이 5,000명이 있었다고 기록하고 있습니다.

이 모든 과정은 모든 인류에게 하나님의 나라가 임하게 하고자 하시는 예슈아의 큰 의향과 소원으로 시작되었습니다. 그래서 사도행전 1:8에서 예슈아께서는 “(그러나) 오직 성령이 너희에게 임하시면 너희가 권능을 받고 예루살렘과 온 유대와 사마리아와 땅 끝까지 이르러 내 증인이 되리라.” 말씀하셨습니다.

그렇게 우리는 땅 끝까지 덮고 있는 하나님의 나라에 대한 하나님의 말씀의 영향력을 지금도 계속 보고 있습니다. 그 씨와 누룩이 계속 인류에 영향을 미치고 있다는 것과, 믿는 자로서 우리의 일이 이 영향력이 우리 주위에 있는 이들을 만지게 하는 일에 신경 쓰는 것이라는 점에는 의심의 여지가 없습니다. 특히 두려움이 사람들의 마음을 빼앗아가려 하고 사람들을 하나님의 아들과 딸인 그들의 진짜 성품에서 멀어지도록 만드는 우리 시대에는 더욱 그렇습니다.

로마서 14:17에는 하나님의 나라는 먹는 것과 마시는 것이 아니요 오직 성령 안에 있는 의와 평강과 희락이라고 쓰여 있습니다. 우리 믿는 자들은 우리 안에 계신 성령님과 동행하도록 부름 받았으며, 우리가 사람들의 삶에 씨를 뿌리고 누룩을 두도록 부름 받았음을 기억해야 합니다.

우리가 자신감을 가지고 하나님을 믿으며 하나님의 평안과 희락을 비추며 행할 때 이 일을 하는 것입니다. 우리가 우리 마음에 주님의 사랑을 가지고 종종 아무 말도 없이 겸손히 견딜 때, 사람들의 마음에 씨가 뿌려지며 누룩이 들어가 숨겨집니다.

여러분은 어떻게 이런 방식으로 사람들의 삶에 영향을 줄 수 있느냐고 질문할지도 모르겠습니다. 제가 이곳 악고의 한 호텔에서 웨이터로 일할 때, 저는, 오늘날 제가 그들이 믿는 사람들이었음을 깨닫게 된, 사람들을 보곤 했습니다. 그들은 결코 주님에 대해 전하는 말로 제게 다가오지 않았지만, 저는 그들에게 끌렸습니다. 저는, 종교적인 유대인으로 자라 토라를 아는 나에게는 어째서 내가 그들 안에서 보는 뭔가가 없는 것인지 궁금했습니다. 그들이 내 마음에 둔 누룩은 바로 그들이 비춰준 예슈아와 하나님의 사랑이었고, 그 누룩은 제 삶에 숨겨졌습니다. 이 숨겨진 과정은 제 마음이 예슈아를 알게 될 그 날에 대비하여 저를 준비시키고 있었습니다. 그들의 삶 속에서 그들이 예슈아의 인격을 비춰준 것이 믿음으로 발전하고 오늘날 제가 주님과 동행하게 만들어준 과정의 일부였습니다.

The Kingdom of Heaven

In Matthew 13:31-33; Yeshua teaches two parables; one likening the Kingdom of Heaven to a mustard seed and the other to leaven. Before that He speaks about the good and bad seed in the teaching of the wheat and tares in Matthew 13:24-30.

In each case we are given the lesson of how a little seed can have such a profound effect on the outcome of a situation or in the immediate surroundings. This example is best seen in the parable of the leaven, when the woman puts a small amount of leaven in what is by comparison a huge amount of flour.

What happens is that from the beginning the flour or the surroundings are influenced, yet because it is hidden or unseen, its influence is not immediately recognized. It appears as if there is no change for a long time in the wheat, but the outward appearance was not the true condition, for the process of change from flour to dough had begun.

When Yeshua speaks these parables, what he is calling us to do is to plant seeds and deposit leaven in the hearts of the people. Even though for now they may be far away from God, we don’t know what the seed or leaven which we put in their heart is doing on the inside. We don’t know where they are in the process.

Look how the little leaven from Yeshua’s time has progressed in our day. It began with twelve disciples that accepted Yeshua; then two years later the number of people gathered together in Acts 15:12 was one hundred and twenty. In I Corinthians 15:6 we see that Yeshua revealed himself to more than five hundred brothers. Then came the Feast of Shavuot and the outpouring of the Holy Spirit and 3,000 new believers came into the Kingdom of God. This event was followed by the account in Acts 4:4 where it is recorded that there were 5,000 believers in the holy city.

This whole process began with Yeshua’s great willingness and desire to bring the Kingdom of God to all mankind. That’s why in Acts 1:8 Yeshua says, “But you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be witnesses to Me in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.”

So even now we continue to see the influence of the Word of God on the kingdom of God which covers the ends of the earth. There is no doubt that the seeds and leaven continue to influence mankind and that our job as believers is to take care that this influence touches those around us. Especially in our days where fear is trying to steal the heart of the people, taking them far away from their true character as sons and daughters of God.

In Romans 14:17 it is written for the kingdom of God is not eating and drinking, but righteousness and peace and joy in the Holy Spirit. We as believers are called to walk with the Holy Spirit in us and remember that we are called to plant seeds and deposit leaven in people’s lives.

We do this when walking with confidence and trust in God, reflecting the peace and joy of God. As we stand in humility, with His love in our hearts; often without saying a word, the seeds are planted, and the leaven deposited and hidden away in the hearts of the people.

You may ask how it is possible to affect people’s lives this way. When I was a waiter in a hotel here in Acco, I would see those whom today I realize were believers. They never approached me in word about the Lord, yet I was drawn to them. I wondered how is it that I, raised as a religious Jew, having the knowledge of Torah, am missing something which I see in them. It was their reflection of Yeshua and God’s love that deposited that leaven in my heart; the leaven which was hidden in my life. This hidden process was preparing me for the day when my heart would come to recognize Yeshua. Their reflection of His character in their lives; part of the process which has developed into the faith and walk I have today with Him.
