이번 안식일 토라와 선지서와 신약성경 포션은 다음 본문입니다:

매주 저는 다음 주 안식일에 전 세계 모든 회당에서 읽을 본문을 읽습니다(이스라엘에 있는 저희는 언제나 디아스포라보다 한 주 앞서갑니다). 이것은 제가 독자들과 토론할 것을 생각해보는 데에 도움이 됩니다. 저는 때로는 정보를 나누고 싶고, 때로는 귀한 독자 여러분을 고무하고 싶습니다. 이번 주에 저는 여러분에게 용기를 북돋아 주도록 토라와 마태복음 26장 말씀을 나누고 싶습니다.

저는 미국과 유럽 대학가와 또 이스라엘에서 지금 벌어지고 있는 일이 아들의 빛을 가리는, 어떤 면에서는 현명한 사람들의 눈을 멀게 하고 현명한 사람들의 생각을 마비시키는, 어둡고 불투명한 커튼 같다고 생각합니다. 저는 먼저 레위기 21:1—4 말씀으로 시작하도록 하겠습니다.

저는 귀한 독자이자 이스라엘 네티비야와 인터내셔널 네티비야(미국 네티비야의 새 이름)의 동역자이신 여러분께 이 본문을 가리키고 있는 것입니다.

“여호와께서 모세에게 이르시되 아론의 자손 제사장들에게 말하여 이르라 그의 백성 중에서 죽은 자를 만짐으로 말미암아 스스로를 더럽히지 말려니와 그의 살붙이인 그의 어머니나 그의 아버지나 그의 아들이나 그의 딸이나 그의 형제나 출가하지 아니한 처녀인 그의 자매로 말미암아서는 몸을 더럽힐 수 있느니라 제사장은 그의 백성의 어른인즉 자신을 더럽혀 속되게 하지 말지니라” (레위기 21:1-4)

이 본문 말씀에는 하나님께서 모세에게 그분의 종들, 제사장들과 하나님의 집에서 섬기는 레위인들에게 그들을 따로 구분하고 그들에게 특별한 지위와 특권을 주지만 동시에 어느 정도 제한이 있는 규범과 규율이 있다고 말씀하시는 선언이 있습니다. 이 선언은 전 세계 모든 고대 종교 가운데 사실인 패러다임입니다. 2년 동안 특정 신학교를 후원하는 교파의 교리와 생각을 주입하는 설교학교나 신학교를 다녔다고 해서 모든 딕이나 조니가 하나님의 집에서 “하나님의 종”이 될 수 있는 것은 아닙니다. 본질적으로, 대부분의 개신교와 복음주의 교파의 설교단을 차지하고 있는 사람들의 다수는 어떤 제한이나 영적인 필요조건 없이 영적 지도자로서의 특권을 누리고 있습니다.

저는 미국 플로리다주 북쪽 경계에서는 2마일 떨어져 있고 조지아주 발도스타 남쪽에서는 몇 마일 떨어진 조지아 대셔에 도착하고 몇 달 되었던 1962년에 제게 일어난 일을 여러분과 나눠야겠습니다. 조지아 크리스천 스쿨은 조지아주 남부 중앙 습지에 있는 섬입니다. 대셔 마을 사람들은 대부분 제1차 세계대전 전에 종교적 박해를 피해 이주하여 조지아주 남쪽 깊숙이 정착한 독일 기독교인들이었습니다. 이 교회는 작고 모두 백인이었고, 성(姓)은 코플란드, 비젠바커, 햄, 그리고 다른 독일 성(姓)이었습니다. (조지아 크리스천 스쿨 교장이신 빌 롱이나 캠벨 같은 몇 명은 독일인이 아니었습니다.) 저는 이 학교에서도 유일한 유대인이었고, 교회에서도 유일한 유대인이었습니다. 저는 그리 멀지 않은 곳에 “검은” 교회가 있었다고 들었습니다. 저는 그 교회 건물이 검게 칠해져 있다고 말씀드리는 것이 아닙니다. 그 교회의 겉은 흰색이지만, 안에 있는 사람들이 흑인이었습니다. 저는 사회관습 규범을 몰랐기에 그 작은 흑인 교회에 갔었고 그 교회가 활기차고 대범하다는 것을 알게 되었습니다. 노래 부르는 스타일이 훨씬 더 제 스타일이었습니다.

두 번째 일요일 저녁에 저는 그 유쾌한 교회에 갔고 따뜻한 환대를 받았습니다. 그 일요일 저녁 예배는 아주 특별했습니다. 그날 외지 강사가 설교했습니다. 그 강사는 키가 작고 머리카락이 희끗해지고 있는 남자로 고무적인 설교를 했습니다. 예배 끝에 그 설교자는 설교단에서 제게 다가와 “젊은이, 자네는 누구인가?” 물었습니다. 저는 저의 초급 수준의 영어로 저는 이스라엘 예루살렘에서 온 요셉이라고 대답했습니다! “여기는 무슨 일인가?” 저는 길 위쪽에 있는 조지아 크리스천 스쿨에 다닐 거라고 대답했습니다. “자네는 자네 생애에 뭘 하고 싶은가?” 그 설교자가 물었습니다. “저는 복음을 전하고 싶습니다!” 그 흑인 설교자는 “그러지 말게!” “하나님께서 자네에게 전하라고 부르신 것이 아니라면 그러지 말게!” 말했습니다. 저는 선생님 성함이 어떻게 되십니까? 물었습니다. “내 이름은 마샬 키블이라네” 그는 대답했습니다. 키블 선생님은 그리스도의 교회의 최우수 사역자셨습니다.

이번 토라 포션은 우리에게 레위 지파 사람이라고 해서, 혹은 제사장 가문 사람이라고 해서 모든 사람이 제사장이 될 수 있는 것은 아니라고 말해주고 있습니다. 하나님께서 부르셔야 합니다. 혹시 여러분이 제게 하나님께서 저를 부르신 것을 어떻게 아느냐고 물으신다면 제 대답은 단호하고 분명할 것입니다! “제가 알 수 있는 이유는 그것 말고 제가 하고 싶은 일이 없고, 이스라엘에 있는 제 민족에게 메시아의 복음을 전하기 위해 저는 이 세상에서 지불해야 하는 대가를 뭐든 다 지불할 것이기 때문입니다!”

하나님의 종이 되는 것은 소명이지, 직업이나 돈벌이 일이 아닙니다. 저는 제가 조지아 크리스천 스쿨에 도착하고 곧 빌 롱과 그의 형제 제시도 똑같이 이해하고 있다는 것을 알고 아주 기뻤습니다. 그들은 하나님을 섬긴다는 것이 특별한 일이며 돈벌이 일이 아니라고 이해하고 있었습니다.

이번 토라 포션을 읽어보면 하나님의 종이 된다는 것과 하나님의 백성에게 하나님을 대변한다는 것이 큰 책임이며, 거기에는 특권과 제한이 있다는 것이 분명해집니다. 조지아주 아틀란타에 한 회중(교회)을 성공적으로 세우고 나서 빌 롱은 설교자로서의 그의 일을 떠나 세차 사업을 시작했습니다. 그는 그의 세차 사업에서 생활할 수 있을 만큼 충분한 돈을 벌 때까지 설교를 중단했다가, 아틀란타에 샌디 스프링스 교회에 다시 설교하러 돌아왔는데요, 이때는 무급 설교자로 돌아왔습니다. 빌은 많은 사람들의 모범이 되었는데요, 특히 제게 모범이 된 이유는 제가 조지아 크리스천 스쿨의 유대인 마스코트로서 주말마다 그와 함께 다니며 학교를 대표하는 특권을 누렸기 때문입니다.

레위기에서 하나님의 집에서 섬기는 제사장들에게 둔 다음과 같은 제한을 한 번 생각해 보십시오: 그들은 친구의 장례식에 참석할 수 없습니다. 그들은 오로지 가장 가까운 살붙이 가족의 장례식에만 참석할 수 있습니다. 그들은 육신의 장애가 있으면 하나님의 집에서 계속 섬길 수 없습니다. 만약 제사장이 넘어져서 다리가 부러졌거나 사고로 눈 한쪽이 멀게 되면, 그는 하나님의 집에서 계속 섬길 수 없습니다. 그는 그가 원하는 것이라고 아무거나 먹을 수 없습니다. 그는 오로지 하나님의 제단에 드려지고 남은 성화된 제물의 고기만 먹을 수 있습니다! 그들은 그들이 좋아하거나 사랑에 빠진 아무 여자와 결혼할 수 없습니다. 제 요점은 레위기에 기록된 모세 율법에 따르면 하나님의 종이 된다는 것은 한편으로는 개인의 자유를 상당히 제한하지만, 동시에 특별한 경우에 각자의 특정 책임에 따라 하나님의 집에 자유롭게 들어갈 수 있다는 것입니다.

선지서 포션에도 비범한 내용이 담겨 있습니다. 하나님과 백성을 섬기는 제사장들은 장식하지 않은 단순한 의복을 입어야 합니다.

“이스라엘 족속이 그릇 행하여 나를 떠날 때에 사독의 자손 레위 사람 제사장들은 내 성소의 직분을 지켰은즉 그들은 내게 가까이 나아와 수종을 들되 내 앞에 서서 기름과 피를 내게 드릴지니라 주 여호와의 말씀이니라 그들이 내 성소에 들어오며 또 내 상에 가까이 나아와 내게 수종들어 내가 맡긴 직분을 지키되 그들이 안뜰 문에 들어올 때에나 안뜰 문과 성전 안에서 수종들 때에는 양털 옷을 입지 말고 가는 베 옷을 입을 것이니 가는 베 관을 머리에 쓰며 가는 베 바지를 입고 땀이 나게 하는 것으로 허리를 동이지 말 것이며 그들이 바깥뜰 백성에게로 나갈 때에는 수종드는 옷을 벗어 거룩한 방에 두고 다른 옷을 입을지니 이는 그 옷으로 백성을 거룩하게 할까 함이라 그들은 또 머리털을 밀지도 말며 머리털을 길게 자라게도 말고 그 머리털을 깎기만 할 것이며 아무 제사장이든지 안뜰에 들어갈 때에는 포도주를 마시지 말 것이며 과부나 이혼한 여인에게 장가 들지 말고 오직 이스라엘 족속의 처녀나 혹시 제사장의 과부에게 장가 들 것이며 내 백성에게 거룩한 것과 속된 것의 구별을 가르치며 부정한 것과 정한 것을 분별하게 할 것이며 송사하는 일을 재판하되 내 규례대로 재판할 것이며 내 모든 정한 절기에는 내 법도와 율례를 지킬 것이며 또 내 안식일을 거룩하게 하며” (에스겔 44:15-24)

여러분이 보시다시피, 주님께서는 그분의 종들에게 그들이 무엇을 입어야 하고, 어떤 종류의 머리 스타일이어야 하고, 무엇을 마실 수 있고, 무엇을 먹을 수 있고, 누구와 결혼할 수 있는지를 명하셨습니다.

물론, 저는 오늘날 하나님의 사람들, 설교자들과 장로들이 예루살렘 성전 시대의 이스라엘의 제사장들의 규범과 규율을 채택하여 스스로 짊어져야 한다고 주장하는 것은 아닙니다.

제가 채택되어 진지하게 받아들여지는 것을 보기를 바라는 교훈은 단순합니다. 여러분이 하나님의 백성을 섬기는 하나님의 종이라면, 여러분은 여러분이 좋은 대로 행동하고, 좋은 대로 옷 입고, 결혼하고 싶은 아무나하고 결혼할 수 없는 것입니다. 거기에는 절제와 특권과 제한이 있습니다. 몇 주 전에 우리는 대제사장 아론의 두 아들이 정해지지 않은 곳에서 주님의 제단에 사용할 불을 가져왔기 때문에 주님의 집에서 섬기던 중에 죽은 사건을 읽었습니다. 저는 무엇이 큰일이었고, 이 불과 다른 불 사이의 차이는 무엇이었는지 의아합니다! 하니님께는 아론과 그의 두 아들에게 그 두 아들의 목숨을 앗아갈 정도의 차이가 있었습니다.

제 요점은 간단합니다: 친애하는 형제님들, 여러분이 하나님께서 여러분을 부르셨다는 것을 알지 못한다면 설교자가 되려고 하지 마십시오! 그 어떤 급여나 다른 보상으로도 여러분이 형제나 자매가 교통사고가 나거나 뇌졸중으로 쓰러져 그의 가족과 자녀를 격려하러 병원으로 달려가느라 여러분의 가족과 떨어져 있어야 하는 그 많은 날과 밤을 보상할 수 없을 것입니다. 또 설교자들이 겪어야 하는 이루 말할 수 없는 거짓 참소와 소문도 있습니다. 설교자들은 여러분의 아내나 자녀가 입는 옷, 쓰는 것, 하지 않는 일 때문에 이들을 비난하는 비난을 무시해야 합니다.

말씀을 전하며 하나님과 하나님의 백성을 섬기는 것은 가장 어려운 과업, 돈벌이 일이 아닌 하나님의 소명입니다. 설교자인 여러분에게나 여러분의 가족에게 결코 쉽지 않은 소명입니다. 여러분이 하나님의 백성을 섬기는 하나님의 사람이라면 제가 쓰고 있는 이 모든 것이 참일 것입니다!

다음은 이번 안식일 복음서 포션 마태복음 26:59-62에 대한 약간의 생각입니다.

“대제사장들과 온 공회가 예수를 죽이려고 그를 칠 거짓 증거를 찾으매 거짓 증인이 많이 왔으나 얻지 못하더니 후에 두 사람이 와서 이르되 이 사람의 말이 내가 하나님의 성전을 헐고 사흘 동안에 지을 수 있다 하더라 하니 대제사장이 일어서서 예수께 묻되 아무 대답도 없느냐 이 사람들이 너를 치는 증거가 어떠하냐 하되” (마태복음 26:59-62)

신약성경과 구약성경에서 우리는 정치인과 사업가가 된 부패한 제사장들에 대해 읽습니다. 성경에 기술된 것이 아직도 우리 주변에 실재하긴 하지만, 바라기는 만연하거나 큰 문제로 발전하지 않기를 바랍니다.

저는 여러분 모두께 여러분의 회중(교회)의 지도자, 설교자, 장로, 집사들을 위해 기도하시기를 부탁드립니다. 어떤 사람이 하나님의 양떼를 섬기도록 하나님의 부르심을 받고 충성되고 참되면, 그가 대가를 치를 것은 없습니다. 그러나 여러분의 지도자나 설교자가 뛰어난 연설가이며 명철한 교사라고 하더라도 기꺼이 교구민의 발을 씻기고자 하지 않는 종이라면, 그 회중은 대단한 문제가 있는 것입니다.

잊지 말고 이스라엘을 위해 기도해 주십시오. 이 전쟁은 매우 끔찍하고 너무 오래 끌고 있습니다. 너무 많은 사람들이 솥을 휘젓고 있습니다(사공이 너무 많습니다)! 이스라엘은 하나님의 도움이 필요하고, 저희는 여러분의 도움과, 무엇보다, 이스라엘 국민의 치유를 위한 여러분의 기도가 필요합니다. 마르시아와 저는 저희의 건강을 위한 여러분의 기도와 저희의 복잡하고 복합적인 건강 문제와 어려움으로부터 치유되도록 하나님의 긍휼이 필요합니다.

여러분이 개인적으로 모르는 형제자매들을 위해 드리는 기도는 순전한 사랑이며 메시아의 몸을 세우는 것입니다. 여러분이 이기적인 이해관계 없이 여러분이 모르지만 형제인 누군가를 위해 천국에서 투표를 하는 것이기에 이것은 아가페 사랑입니다. 그리고 하나님께서는 우리가 이 세상에서는 서로 모를지라도 우리를 함께 묶는 사랑과 믿음의 긴 사슬로 연결된 다른 사람을 위해 하는 이기적이지 않고 참된 사랑과 관심의 표현인 이 기도를 보고 계십니다.

우리가 천국에 가서 우리가 위해서 기도했고 때로는 울부짖었던 사람들을 만나게 되면 기쁜 일일 것입니다. 그들은 육신적으로는 모르지만 영적으로는 같은 그리스도의 몸의 지체인 형제자매들로서, 언젠가 함께 앉아 “제가 당신이 치유되도록 기도한 것이 기억납니다!”, “당신이 가자지구 하마스 테러리스트들의 잔인한 손아귀에서 인질들을 구하기 위해 가자지구에서 싸울 때 제가 당신이 안전하도록 기도한 것이 기억납니다!” 이야기 나누는 특권을 누리게 될 이들입니다.


예루살렘에서는:

하나님의 은혜와, 치유와 힘을 주시는 하나님의 부드러운 손길이 필요한 다음 형제자매님들을 위해 기도해 주십시오.

 요셉과 마르시아 슐람
요셉 슐람의 5월 6일 예루살렘에서의 상담 결과는 미국 의사들과의 협의를 기다리면서 6월에 또 다른 양전자방출단층촬영을 하기로 했습니다. 그리고 췌장암 전문의와 어떤 치료법을 선택할지에 관한 상담도 일정을 잡을 것입니다.

 밧탸 세갈 자매님은 항암 치료 후유증을 겪고 있으며 깨끗한 양전자 방사 단층 촬영 결과를 믿음으로 기다리고 있습니다.

 귀한 일라나 아히저비 자매님은 98세이시며 기억력 문제로 고생하시고 계십니다.

 우리의 귀한 레아 커르키 자매님을 위해 기도해 주시기 바랍니다.

 예루살렘 태생의 사리트 자매님은 88세가 넘으셨고 혼자 살고 계십니다. 가까운 가족이 없고 여러 가지 노인 질환을 앓고 계십니다.

 여러분이 알렉산더와 사라와 앤드류를 위해 기도한 것은 응답받았습니다. 이들은 믿는 자로 자랐으나 믿음에서 떠났었습니다. 하나님의 목자께서 이 한 가족 식구들을 다시 양떼 안으로 인도해 주셨습니다. 이들의 일반적 복지와 영적 복지를 위해서 계속해서 기도해 주시기 바랍니다!

 아담의 부모님인 배리와 달리아를 위해 기도해 주십시오. 이분들도 건강 문제와 어려움이 좀 있습니다.

 미리암과 그녀의 딸 한나를 위해 기도해 주십시오. 미리암은 귀한 자매님인데요, 최근 남편을 잃었습니다.

 다니엘 에스(S.)와 그의 자녀들을 위해 기도해 주십시오.

 로에 이스라엘 회중의 귀한 지도자 개리와 그의 건강과 그의 아내 멜라니와 그들의 가족을 위해 기도해 주십시오.

 데보라 아이자야를 위해 기도해 주십시오. 저는 주님께서 데보라 아이자야를 복된 삶과 가정으로 인도하시고 그녀의 문제에 대한 해결책을 찾아 주시기를 기도합니다.

 귀한 데니스 드코스타 형제님과 그의 가족이 그들의 길을 찾고, 하나님께서 그들이 어디에서 무엇을 하며 살고 섬기며 가족을 키우기 원하시는지 분명한 비전이 있도록, 주님께서 데니스 드코스타와 그의 가족에게 바른 문을 열어주시도록 기도해 주십시오.

 홍콩 출신의 귀한 친구 보니가 호주에 살고 있는 그녀의 오빠(혹은 남동생), 레이 첸을 위해 기도해 달라고 부탁했습니다. 레이 첸을 언급하며, 하나님께 이 사람에게 하나님의 은혜와, 몸과 영혼을 고치시는 하나님의 강력한 치유와, 믿음과 거룩하고 신성한 삶의 회복을 보여주시도록 기도해 주시기 바랍니다.

핀란드에서는:

 (감사) 믿음 안에 귀한 자매인 에스터 자매님은 은혜로 검사를 끝냈고 검사 결과는 좋은 소식입니다. 저희는 여러분의 기도에 대해 감사드립니다.

 마우노 렘포넨 형제님은 상당히 깊어진 암 진단을 받았습니다. 저희는 하나님께서 그에게 그의 가족과 건강히 보내는 날을 주시도록 하나님의 뜻이 이루어지기를 간구하고 있습니다. 서로 의지가 되어주고 있는 힐카, 미이카, 에스터를 위해 기도해 주십시오.

The Jerusalem Prayer List – 17 May, 2024

The Torah and Prophets and New Covenant reading this next Shabbat is from the following texts:

Torah reading from the section called Emor (Say So!) Leviticus 21:1-24:23.
From the Prophets (The Haftarah) is read from Ezekiel 44:15-31.
From the Gospels, the reading from Matthew 26:59-66.

Every week, I read the texts that will be read in every Synagogue worldwide on the following Shabbat (as in Israel, we are always a week ahead of the Diaspora). It helps me consider what I will discuss with the readers. Sometimes, I want to share information and other times; I want to inspire your dear readers. This week, I would like to share with you from the Torah and Matthew 26 to encourage you.

I believe that what is going on in the USA and Europe on University and College campuses and also in Israel is like a dark, opaque curtain that is hiding the light of the Son (sun), which is, in a way, blinding the eyes of the wise and dumbing the minds of the wise. Let me start with the text of Leviticus 21:1—4ff.

I am pointing out the text for you, dear readers and prayer partners with us in Netivyah in Israel and Netivyah International (our new name for Netivyah USA).

"And the LORD said to Moses, "Speak to the priests, the sons of Aaron, and say to them: 'None shall defile himself for the dead among his people, except for his relatives who are nearest to him: his mother, his father, his son, his daughter, and his brother; also his virgin sister who is near to him, who has had no husband, for her he may defile himself. Otherwise, he shall not defile himself, being a chief man among his people, to profane himself." (Leviticus 21:1-4 NKJV)

In this text, we have a pronouncement from God to Moses that His servants, the Priests, and those like the Levites who serve in the house of God have rules and regulations that set them apart and give them special status and privileges, but also some limitations. This pronouncement is a true paradigm among all the ancient religions worldwide. Not every Dick or Johnny can become a "Servant of God" in the house of God just because he attended preaching school or seminary for a couple of years, which pumped him with the doctrines and theological baggage of the denomination that supports the particular seminary. Essentially, the majority of those who are occupying pulpits in most of the Protestant and Evangelical denominations are privileged as spiritual leaders without any limitations or spiritual demands.

I have to share with you what happened to me in 1962, just a few months after I arrived in Dasher, Georgia, two miles north of the Florida border and a few miles south of Valdosta, Georgia. Georgia Christian School was an island in the swamps of South Central Georgia. The community of Dasher was mostly German Christians who escaped religious persecution before World War I and settled down far south in the state of Georgia. The church was small and all white, and among the names of the families were Copland, Wisenbaker, Ham, and more German family names. (A few were not a part of the German camp, like Bill Long, the President of Georgia Christian School, and Campbell.) Being the only Jew in the school, I was also the only Jew in the Church. I heard that there was a "Black" church not too far away, but I am not talking about the church building being painted black. The outside was white, and the people inside were black. I didn't understand the societal rules, so I walked to the little black church and found it lively and defiant; the singing was much more my style.

On the second Sunday night, I went to that lovely church and was warmly welcomed. That Sunday night service was very special. They had an out-of-town guest speaker. The speaker was a short man with graying hair who gave an inspiring lesson. At the end of the service, the preacher walked straight to me from the pulpit and asked me, "Young man, who are you?" - I answered in my green-horn English, I am Joseph from Jerusalem, Israel! "What are you doing here?" I answered. I am going to Georgia Christian School up the road. "What do you want to do with your life?" the preacher asked. "I want to preach the Gospel!" The black preacher said: "Don't!" "Don't unless God calls you to preach!" What is your name, sir? I asked. "My name is Marshal Keeble." The man answered. Mr Keeble was a powerhouse minister of the Churches of Christ.

The reading of the Torah tells us that not everyone can be a priest, not even if he is from the tribe of Levi and not necessarily even if he comes from a priestly family. God has to call you. How will I know that God has called me if you ask me? My answer would be decisive and clear! "I know because there is nothing else I want to do, and there is every price in the world I am willing to pay to share the Good News of The Messiah with my people in Israel."

Being a servant of God is a calling, not a job, and not a profession. I was so glad to discover soon after arriving at Georgia Christian School that Bill Long and Jessy, his brother, also had that same understanding. They understood that Serving God is something special and not a job.

Reading this portion of the Torah from Leviticus makes it clear that being servants of God and representing God for the people of God is a big responsibility, and it has privileges and limitations. After successfully building a congregation in Atlanta, Georgia, Bill Long left his job as a preacher and got into the car washing business. He stopped preaching until he could make enough money to live on from his car washing business and returned to preach in the Sandy Springs Church in Atlanta, now without a salary. Bill was a model for many, but especially for me because I had the privilege of traveling with him on weekends to represent the school as the Jewish mascot of Georgia Christian School.

Just take into consideration the following limitations that the book of Leviticus puts on those who are priests serving in the house of God: They can not attend the funerals of their friends. They can only participate in funerals of their own closest family members. They cannot continue to serve in the house of God if they have some physical disability. If the priest falls and breaks a leg or, by accident, becomes blind in one eye, he can't continue to serve in the house of God. He can't eat anything he wants; he can only eat meat consecrated from what parts are left from the offering on the Altar of God! They can't marry any woman they might like or fall in love with. My point is that being servants of God according to the Law of Moses as it is written in the book of Leviticus is, on the one hand, significantly limiting to your personal freedom and, at the same time, freeing you to enter the house of God on special occasions according to your particular responsibilities.

The reading of the prophets also contains something extraordinary. The priests who serve God and the people must wear simple, unadorned garments.

"But the priests, the Levites, the sons of Zadok, who kept charge of My sanctuary when the children of Israel went astray from Me, they shall come near Me to minister to Me; and they shall stand before Me to offer to Me the fat and the blood," says the Lord GOD. "They shall enter My sanctuary, and they shall come near My table to minister to Me, and they shall keep My charge. And it shall be, whenever they enter the gates of the inner court, that they shall put on linen garments; no wool shall come upon them while they minister within the gates of the inner court or within the house. They shall have linen turbans on their heads and linen trousers on their bodies; they shall not clothe themselves with anything that causes sweat. When they go out to the outer court, to the outer court to the people, they shall take off their garments in which they have ministered, leave them in the holy chambers, and put on other garments; and in their holy garments they shall not sanctify the people. "They shall neither shave their heads nor let their hair grow long, but they shall keep their hair well trimmed. No priest shall drink wine when he enters the inner court. They shall not take as wife a widow or a divorced woman but take virgins of the descendants of the house of Israel or widows of priests. "And they shall teach My people the difference between the holy and the unholy and cause them to discern between the unclean and the clean. In controversy, they shall stand as judges and judge it according to My judgments. They shall keep My laws and My statutes in all My appointed meetings, and they shall hallow My Sabbaths." (Ezekiel 44:15-24 NKJV).

As you can see, the Lord commanded his servants what they should wear, what kind of haircut they should have, what they could drink, what they could eat, and who they could marry.

Of course, I don't advocate that today, the men of God, preachers, and elders would adopt or take upon themselves any of the rules and regulations of the priests of Israel in the temple in Jerusalem.

The lesson that I would like to see adopted and taken seriously is simple. If you are a servant of God to serve the people of God, you can't do as you please, dress as you please, or marry anyone you want to marry. There are discipline, privileges, and limitations. Just a few weeks ago, we read that the two sons of Aaron, the High Priest, died during their service in the house of the Lord because they took fire from the wrong place to light the altar of the Lord. I wonder what the big deal was and the difference between this fire and the other. Fire is fire! For God, it made a difference that cost Aaron and his two sons their lives.

My point is simple: dear brothers, don't choose to be preachers unless you know that God calls you! No salary or compensation will compensate for the days and nights that you will need to spend away from your family because a dear brother or sister had a car accident or a CVA (stroke), and you must rush to the hospital to encourage the wife and children. There are also the false accusations and gossip, and you name it, that preachers have to suffer. Preachers must ignore the criticism of others about your wife and your children for what they wear, what they spend, or what they don't do.

Preaching and serving God and the People of God is the most challenging task, not a job, but a calling from God. Not at all easy on you, the preacher, or your family. All that I am writing is true if you are a man of God serving the people of God!

Here are a few thoughts on the reading on this Shabbat from the Gospel of Matthew 26:59-62.

"Now the chief priests, the elders, and all the council sought false testimony against Jesus to put Him to death but found none. Even though many false witnesses came forward, they found none. But at last, two false witnesses came forward and said, "This fellow said, 'I am able to destroy the temple of God and to build it in three days.' "And the high priest arose and said to Him, "Do You answer nothing? What is it these men testify against You?" (Matthew 26:59-62 NKJV)

In the New and Old Testaments, we read of corrupt priests who have become politicians and businessmen. What is described in the scriptures is still with us, but hopefully, it is not as prevalent or as big a problem.

I ask you all to pray for your congregation's leaders, preachers, elders, and deacons. If a person is called by God to serve God's flock and is faithful and true – there is nothing he doesn't deserve. However, if your leaders and preachers are excellent speakers and sharp teachers but not servants willing to wash their parishioners' feet, the congregation has a monumental problem.

Don't forget to pray for Israel – this war is absolutely horrible and too long, and too many are stirring the pot! Israel needs God's help, and we need your help and, above all, your prayers for the healing of the Israeli population. Marcia and I need your prayers for our health and God's mercies for healing us from complex and complicated health problems and challenges.

Your prayers for brothers and sisters you don’t know personally is a pure love and building of the Body of the Messiah. It is Agape Love since you are doing this without any selfish interests and casting a vote in heaven for someone who is your brother. Still, you don't know them, and God looks at these prayers that are unselfish and genuine expression of love and care for another link in the long chain of love and faith that binds us together even though we might not know each other in this world.

When we all get to Heaven, it will be a joy to meet people we prayed for and sometimes even cried for. Brothers and sisters who are physically strangers but spiritually a part of the same body of Christ, I believe that one day we will have the privilege to sit together and share: "I remember praying for you to be healed!" "I remember praying for you to be safe when you were fighting in Gaza to free the hostages from the cruel hands of the terrorists of the Hamas in Gaza."

Dad’s consultation in Jerusalem on 6th of May resulted in an agreement with the USA doctors to wait and do another PET CT in June. In addition a new consultation with a Pancreatic Cancer specialist regrading options for treatment will be scheduled.

 Batya Segal is coping with the cancer treatment's effects and is faithfully waiting for clean PET Scan results.

 Ilana Ahijervie is a dear sister who is 98 years old and suffering from memory problems.

 Please pray for our dear sister, Lea Kurkey.

 Sarit, a sister born in Jerusalem, is over 88 years old and lives alone. She has no close family and suffers from several old-age illnesses.

 Your prayers for Alexander, Sarah, and Andrew, who were raised as believers but have left their faith behind, have been answered. The Divine Shepherd guided these members of the same family gently back to the fold. Please keep praying for their general and spiritual welfare!

 Pray for Adam’s father and mother, Barry and Dalia. They have some health problems and challenges.

 Pray for Miriam and Hannah, her daughter. Miriam is a dear sister and has lost her husband recently.

 Pray for Daniel S. and his children.

 Pray for Gary, our dear leader in the Ro’eh Israel congregation, and his health, as well as for his wife Melanie and their family.

 We bless our dear sister Celestine with health and blessings from Heaven for her life and her family. We pray for the Lord to be her comfort and provide sister Celestine with all her physical, spiritual, and social needs with His grace.

 Pray for Deborah Isaiah. I pray for the Lord to find Deborah Isaiah and lead her to a blessed life, family, and a solution to her problems.

 Pray for our dear brother Dennis D’Costa and his family as they find their way and have a clear vision of what and where God wants them to live, serve, and grow their family. Lord, open the right doors for Dennis D’Costa and his family.

In Australia:

 A dear friend from Hong Kong, Bonnie, asked that we pray for her brother, Ray Chen, who lives in Australia. Please mention Ray Chen and ask God to show this man the grace of God and God’s powerful healing of body and soul, restoration of faith, and life of holiness and sanctity.

In Finland:

 Praise Ester, a dear sister in the faith passed the tests with grace and the results are good news. We thank you for your prayers.

 Mauno Lemponen has been diagnosed with cancer in advanced stages. We are asking for Gods Will to be done, giving him healthy days with family—prayers for Hilka, Miika, and Ester, who support each other.

 Pray for Keijo and Salme, our dear partners and fellow workers in God’s flock. Both Keijo and Salme have some challenging heart issues.

 Sipra, our dear sister in Nokia, is a widow with some health issues.

 Pray for the Congregations related to Netivyah in Brazil to have the strength and stamina to face the challenges ahead of them with courage and strength of faithfulness to the Lord and to the vision of the restoration of the church and Israel.

 Pray for the millions of victims of the Spanish and Portuguese Inquisition who have been forced to convert to the Catholic church and now want to return home to the land of Israel and to the faith of our fathers.

 Pray for the state of Israel to open the doors for these lost Jews to be able to return and fulfill God’s promises to the prophet Ovadyah:

 Please pray for dear sister Bee Kim, a 71-year-old who lost consciousness on February 26, 2023. She has not regained her consciousness after a massive stroke.

new Bill C. is having some additional test this week. We all dont like additional test so we can relate to this. Pray for Jill supporting him.

 Brother Philip Slate and his wife. She is suffering from several physical and mental health challenges.

 Drayton Ford (Marcia's great nephew), age 14, has had health issues related to mold exposure that are affecting his ability to heal and participate in public school with mold contamination. Please pray for the family to have support and peace in the choices they need to make for Drayton's health and schooling.

 Barbra and Angie in Alaska. Barbra has some pains and discomfort related to old age. Please lift them in prayer for strength and reduction in pain.

 Ray Jimenez from California is batteling leukemia. Pray for God to sustain him and his time with the family.

 Please continue to pray for the daughter of Bill Culwell, who is very sick with cancer and is receiving a second round of treatment. Please pray for success and healing.

 Jonathan Bernis is in a long six-month recovery from a liver transplant. We thank God for this match. Please pray for this new liver to function and provide much-needed function. Please pray for Elisangela and the girls and the doctors and nurses attending our dear brother Jonathan Bernis.

 Andrew Huffines has complications from long-term COVID-19.

 Please pray for Danah, my daughter's health issues. I pray for the Lord to give Danah wisdom, peace, and calm in life and her work.

 Pray for Noaam, my granddaughter. She is working two jobs now and needs good health and wisdom to make the right choices and plans for life, education, immigration to Israel, and just general protection from all harm.

 Pray for David Young, the preacher in Murfreesboro, Tennessee, who is back to preaching after recovering from medical issues.

 Aaron Hook, Nancy Hook’s oldest son, needs our prayers for wisdom and healing from past life issues.

 Lift for blessing and healing Jonathan B., his wife Aviva, their new baby, his mother, and his brother Daniel.

 Pray for these important men of God: Rabbi Salt, his family, and Rabbi Hasselblad. They are both older and need protection and blessings.

 Also, pray for Ilana Avramov, who is married to my cousin Nissim and lives in New York City. Ilana has fallen and is now in rehab, learning how to walk again. We pray for her full recovery. She and Nissim both need our prayers.

 Pray for Steve Mock - His cognitive condition has declined, and we ask for the grace of God and His Healing and strength. Steve and Josie’s son Joseph has received a wonderful and glorious report. After the last bone marrow transplant, the report is that the doctors didn’t find any leukemia in his body! Praise the Lord!
