이번 주 수요일에 전 세계 유대인들은 욤 키푸르(대속죄일)를 지킵니다. 대속죄일에 읽는 말씀은 레위기 16장입니다. 첫 번째 중요한 이야기는 두 염소 이야기입니다. 이 두 염소는 같은 크기와 같은 나이로, 이스라엘 사람들은 같은 곳에서 나고 같은 색깔의 염소를 선택했습니다. 한 염소는 성전 제단에서 드려졌고, 다른 염소는 광야로 보내져서 다시는 돌아오지 못하고 예루살렘 동쪽 유대광야에서 죽습니다. 저는 이스라엘과 나란히 살던 이웃 민족들 중에서도 이와 비슷한 관습을 행한 것을 알게 되었습니다.

이번 안식일 토라 포션은 신명기 32:1-52로, 이름은 하아지누, “귀를 기울이라”는 뜻입니다.

선지서에서 읽는 말씀은 사무엘하 22:1-51입니다.

신약성경에서 읽는 말씀은 요한복음 6:26-35입니다.

신명기 32장은 일 년 동안 읽는 토라의 거의 끝에 있습니다. 숙콧(장막절) 끝에 우리는 토라와 선지서의 대부분을 다시 처음부터 읽기 시작합니다.

저는 신명기 32장이 토라 중에서 가장 중요한 장 중 하나라고 생각합니다. 이 장 역시 모든 바울 서신에 영향을 미치고 있습니다. 열방(이방인)을 향한 바울의 사명은 신명기 32장과 구약성경의 후기 선지서들에 근거하고 있습니다. 신명기 32장은 이방인과 이스라엘에 관한 사도 바울의 신학의 기초가 되었습니다.

이 장 또한 모세의 노래라고도 부릅니다. 이것 때문에 어떤 사람들은 혼란스러워지는데요, 왜냐하면 요한계시록에서 성도들이 아침 기도 시작 때 모세의 노래를 부르기 때문입니다. 모세의 노래라는 이름을 가진 노래가 두 개 있습니다. 출애굽기 15장에 있는 첫 번째 모세의 노래는 홍해에 빠져 죽은 애굽 군대를 이긴 이스라엘과 모세의 승리의 노래입니다. 요한계시록에서 말하는 것은 이스라엘 자손이 홍해를 마른 땅으로 건넌 다음에 기록된 모세의 노래입니다. 홍해를 건넌 이 승리의 사건은 노예였던 히브리 민족을 마침내 애굽으로부터 구출해낸 진짜 구속의 기적이었습니다. 이것은 전적으로 여호와께서 하신 일로서, 출애굽기의 모세의 노래는 영예와 승리의 영광을 여호와와 여호와께 충성된 자들에게 돌리고 있습니다.

13 내가 이방인인 너희에게 말하노라 내가 이방인의 사도인 만큼 내 직분을 영광스럽게 여기노니 14 이는 혹 내 골육을 아무쪼록 시기하게 하여 그들 중에서 얼마를 구원하려 함이라 15 그들을 버리는 것이 세상의 화목이 되거든 그 받아들이는 것이 죽은 자 가운데서 살아나는 것이 아니면 무엇이리요 16 제사하는 처음 익은 곡식 가루가 거룩한즉 떡덩이도 그러하고 뿌리가 거룩한즉 가지도 그러하니라

17 또한 가지 얼마가 꺾이었는데 돌감람나무인 네가 그들 중에 접붙임이 되어 참감람나무 뿌리의 진액을 함께 받는 자가 되었은즉 18 그 가지들을 향하여 자랑하지 말라 자랑할지라도 네가 뿌리를 보전하는 것이 아니요 뿌리가 너를 보전하는 것이니라 19 그러면 네 말이 가지들이 꺾인 것은 나로 접붙임을 받게 하려 함이라 하리니 20 옳도다 그들은 믿지 아니하므로 꺾이고 너는 믿으므로 섰느니라 높은 마음을 품지 말고 도리어 두려워하라 21 하나님이 원 가지들도 아끼지 아니하셨은즉 너도 아끼지 아니하시리라 22 그러므로 하나님의 인자하심과 준엄하심을 보라 넘어지는 자들에게는 준엄하심이 있으니 너희가 만일 하나님의 인자하심에 머물러 있으면 그 인자가 너희에게 있으리라 그렇지 않으면 너도 찍히는 바 되리라 23 그들도 믿지 아니하는 데 머무르지 아니하면 접붙임을 받으리니 이는 그들을 접붙이실 능력이 하나님께 있음이라 24 네가 원 돌감람나무에서 찍힘을 받고 본성을 거슬러 좋은 감람나무에 접붙임을 받았으니 원 가지인 이 사람들이야 얼마나 더 자기 감람나무에 접붙이심을 받으랴

이스라엘 구원의 신비

25 형제들아 너희가 스스로 지혜 있다 하면서 이 신비를 너희가 모르기를 내가 원하지 아니하노니 이 신비는 이방인의 충만한 수가 들어오기까지 이스라엘의 더러는 우둔하게 된 것이라

26 그리하여 온 이스라엘이 구원을 받으리라 기록된 바 구원자가 시온에서 오사 야곱에게서 경건하지 않은 것을 돌이키시겠고 27 내가 그들의 죄를 없이 할 때에 그들에게 이루어질 내 언약이 이것이라 함과 같으니라

28 복음으로 하면 그들이 너희로 말미암아 원수 된 자요 택하심으로 하면 조상들로 말미암아 사랑을 입은 자라 29 하나님의 은사와 부르심에는 후회하심이 없느니라 30 너희가 전에는 하나님께 순종하지 아니하더니 이스라엘이 순종하지 아니함으로 이제 긍휼을 입었는지라 31 이와 같이 이 사람들이 순종하지 아니하니 이는 너희에게 베푸시는 긍휼로 이제 그들도 긍휼을 얻게 하려 하심이라 32 하나님이 모든 사람을 순종하지 아니하는 가운데 가두어 두심은 모든 사람에게 긍휼을 베풀려 하심이로다

여러분이 보시다시피, 바울의 서신에는 구약성경의 예언으로 뒷받침되는 온 이스라엘이 구원을 받으리라는 분명한 약속이 있습니다. 요는 여러분이 바울의 말에서 우리 귀한 비-유대인 형제자매 여러분에게 유대인 공동체를 시기 나게 하는 과업이 있다는 것을 놓치시면 안 된다는 것입니다. 실질적인 질문은 여러분이 어떻게 여러분의 유대인 이웃과 이스라엘과 전 세계에 있는 유대인에게 시기를 일으킬 수 있는가입니다. 여러분의 유대인 이웃에게 시기 나게 하는 이것은 여러분 개인의 임무이자 소원이 되어야 합니다. 물론, 여기에는 이스라엘에 있는 유대인과 이스라엘에 있는 여러분의 유대인 형제들도 포함되어야 합니다.

The Jerusalem Prayer List – 4 October, 2025

This week, on Wednesday, the Jews around the world will celebrate Yom Kippur – The Day of Atonement. On the day of Atonement, the reading is from Leviticus 16. The first significant story is the story of the two goats. These two goats were the same size and the same age, and the Israelites chose goats that were of the same brand and the same color. One goat was offered on the altar in the Temple, and the other was sent into the wilderness, never to return but to die in the wilderness of Judea, east of Jerusalem. I discovered that similar practices were also practiced among our neighbors in the lands that lived side by side with the Israelites.

The Torah portion for the Shabbat is Deuteronomy 32:1-52; the name of this Torah portion is Ha'Azinu, meaning "hear this".

From the prophets, the reading will be from 2 Samuel 22:1-51.

From the New Testament, the reading will be from John 6:26-35.

Chapter 32 of Deuteronomy is almost at the very end of the Torah reading for the year, and at the end of the feast of Sukkoth, we start reading the whole Torah and much of the prophets from the beginning.

I feel Deuteronomy 32 is one of the most significant chapters in the Torah, and this chapter has also influenced all of Paul's Epistles. Paul's mission to the nations (Gentiles) is based on Deuteronomy 32 and the later prophets in the Old Testament. Deuteronomy 32 serves as the foundation for the Apostle Paul's theology regarding both the Gentiles and Israel.

This chapter is also called the Song of Moses, which makes some people confused because in the book of Revelation, the saints sing the song of Moses in the opening of the morning prayers. There are two songs named the Song of Moses. The first song of Moses from Exodus 15 is a song of victory for Israel and Moses over the Egyptian Army that drowned in the Red Sea. What is spoken of in the book of Revelation is the Song of Moses that is recorded after the children of Israel crossed the Red Sea on dry land. This victory and the crossing of the Red Sea were a true miracle of redemption and a final deliverance of the enslaved Hebrew people from Egypt. It was all the Lord's doing, and the Song of Moses in the book of Exodus gives honor and victory to the Lord and those faithful to the Lord.

I want to concentrate on the Apostle Paul's text in Romans 11 and show how Paul understands the salvation and redemption of the nation of Israel, sometime before the return of the Lord to reign in Zion.

In using the Song of Moses from Deuteronomy 32, Paul is depicting the love of God for Israel, a love that is proven over centuries by God's care and protection for the seed of Abraham. Here is the text from Deuteronomy 32:

"For the LORD'S portion is His people; Jacob is the place of His inheritance. "He found him in a desert land and in the wasteland, a howling wilderness; He encircled him, He instructed him, He kept him as the apple of His eye. As an eagle stirs up its nest, Hovers over its young, spreading out its wings, taking them up, carrying them on its wings, so the LORD alone led him, and there was no foreign god with him. "He made him ride in the heights of the earth, that he might eat the produce of the fields; He made him draw honey from the rock, and oil from the flinty rock. Curds from the cattle, and milk of the flock, with fat of lambs; And rams of the breed of Bashan, and goats, With the choicest wheat; And you drank wine, the blood of the grapes. "But Jeshurun grew fat and kicked; You grew fat, you grew thick, you are obese! Then he forsook God who made him and scornfully esteemed the Rock of his salvation. They provoked Him to jealousy with foreign gods; With abominations they provoked Him to anger. They sacrificed to demons, not to God, to gods they did not know, to new gods, new arrivals that your fathers did not fear. Of the Rock who begot you, you are unmindful and have forgotten the God who fathered you. "And when the LORD saw it, He spurned them, because of the provocation of His sons and His daughters. And He said: "I will hide My face from them, I will see what their end will be, for they are a perverse generation, Children in whom there is no faith. They have provoked Me to jealousy by what is not God; They have moved Me to anger by their foolish idols. But I will provoke them to jealousy by those who are not a nation; I will move them to anger by a foolish nation. For a fire is kindled in My anger and shall burn to the lowest hell; It shall consume the earth with her increase and set on fire the foundations of the mountains. "I will heap disasters on them; I will spend My arrows on them. They shall be wasted with hunger, devoured by pestilence and bitter destruction; I will also send against them the teeth of beasts, with the poison of serpents of the dust". (Deuteronomy 32:9-24 NKJV)

You should go to Deuteronomy 32 and read the whole chapter. When you read chapter 32 of Deuteronomy, you see that God is taking Israel to court for judgment. The Lord has several accusations: Israel is ungrateful. Israel is not trustworthy to keep the relationship with God, who is so gracious and generous in taking care of them for 40 years of wandering in the Sinai desert and feeding them Manna from heaven. On top of everything that God has done for Israel, they have betrayed God and aroused him to anger and jealousy. For this reason, God has withdrawn his kindness from these unfaithful people and has delivered them to their perverse behavior. They have caused God to be jealous, and for this reason, God is going to provoke Israel to jealousy by the Gentiles, one of the worst punishments that God will inflict on Israel. God says,

"I will provoke them to jealousy by those who are not of my nation."

Now, to Romans 11, to show you how Paul's theology of Israel's redemption is based entirely on this text from Deuteronomy 32. You will see the elements of Israel's unfaithfulness (God's punishment – branches of the olive tree that signify Israel). Here is the text from the NKJV New Testament:

11 So I ask, did they stumble in order that they might fall? By no means! Rather, through their trespass, salvation has come to the Gentiles, so as to make Israel jealous. 12 Now if their trespass means riches for the world, and if their failure means riches for the Gentiles, how much more will their full inclusion mean!

13 Now I am speaking to you Gentiles. In as much then as I am an apostle to the Gentiles, I magnify my ministry 14 in order somehow to make my fellow Jews jealous and thus save some of them. 15 For if their rejection means the reconciliation of the world, what will their acceptance mean but life from the dead? 16 If the dough offered as firstfruits is holy, so is the whole lump, and if the root is holy, so are the branches.

17 But if some of the branches were broken off, and you, although a wild olive shoot, were grafted in among the others and now share in the nourishing root of the olive tree, 18 do not be arrogant toward the branches. If you are, remember it is not you who support the root, but the root that supports you. 19 Then you will say, "Branches were broken off so that I might be grafted in." 20 That is true. They were broken off because of their unbelief, but you stand fast through faith. So do not become proud, but fear. 21 For if God did not spare the natural branches, neither will he spare you. 22 Note then the kindness and the severity of God: severity toward those who have fallen, but God's kindness to you, provided you continue in his kindness. Otherwise, you too will be cut off. 23 And even they, if they do not continue in their unbelief, will be grafted in, for God has the power to graft them in again. 24 For if you were cut from what is by nature a wild olive tree, and grafted, contrary to nature, into a cultivated olive tree, how much more will these, the natural branches, be grafted back into their own olive tree.

THE MYSTERY OF ISRAEL'S SALVATION

25 Lest you be wise in your own sight, I do not want you to be unaware of this mystery, brothers: a partial hardening has come upon Israel, until the fullness of the Gentiles has come in.

26 And in this way all Israel will be saved, as it is written, "The Deliverer will come from Zion, he will banish ungodliness from Jacob"; 27 "and this will be my covenant with them when I take away their sins."

28 As regards the gospel, they are enemies for your sake. But as regards election, they are beloved for the sake of their forefathers. 29 For the gifts and the calling of God are irrevocable. 30 For just as you were at one time disobedient to God but now have received mercy because of their disobedience, 31 so they too have now been disobedient in order that by the mercy shown to you they also may now receive mercy. 32 For God has consigned all to disobedience, that he may have mercy on all.

As you can see, in Paul's writings, there is an explicit promise, also supported by the prophecies from the Old Testament, that all of Israel will be saved. The point that you must not miss from Paul's words is that you, our dear non-Jewish brothers and sisters, have the task of provoking the Jewish communities to jealousy. The practical question is how you can provoke your Jewish neighbors and the Jews in Israel and around the world to jealousy? This ought to become your own personal quest and desire, provoke your Jewish neighbors to jealousy, and, of course, the Jews in Israel and your Jewish brothers in Israel also must be included.

Your desire to see the Lord returning to Zion and salvation to wash the earth with the joy of the Lord singing the song of Moses and the song of the Lamb of God. Paul makes it clear that it is now the turn for the Gentiles in the Lord, saved by God's grace in Yeshua, to bring salvation and show love and support to the Jewish people and to the state of Israel that is the last shelter for the Jewish nation and protection from the hate that so many who don't know and don't want to know God's plan for the redemption of all of humanity.

Remember, please, that the only way to provoke the Jewish people to jealousy is to show support and love for Jews and help fight antisemitism, which is the oldest form of racism on the face of God's world. Stand with Israel, the only safe place for Jews to live, protected from antisemitism, hate, and discrimination on the face of our world.

Please pray for my travels to the USA and from there to Brazil for the annual congress that this year will be held in the city of Curitiba, where we have two congregations, and both are doing well.

For centuries, the Catholic Church forced Jews to convert to Catholicism and stop being Jewish. This Inquisition lasted from 1372 to 1821. No evil chapter in human history comes even close to what the Catholic Church did to the Jews, and also in South America to the local Indians, the native population. They killed Jews, Indians, and anyone who refused to give up their freedom and identity. Our brothers in Brazil have built the only Museum in the Americas that exposes and brings to our consideration the cruelty of the Catholic Church so that such horrible dark chapters of humanity will never reappear on the face of history. The Museum is the only one in both North and South America, and now it is under construction and building a second floor. Please pray for our dear brother Yuda, who is again serving in the Israeli Army for 100 more days. Pray for Yuda and all the soldiers, and pray now for the success of the proposal and program that Israel, the United States, and several of the Arab countries propose to end this bloody war in Gaza. Please don't forget to pray for my health. The cancers in my body are still there, and although I am functioning, writing, teaching, and starting to travel after the death of my dear wife, Marcia. It is not easy for me, but I can't sit at home crying all the time. The Lord is giving me grace and strength to continue to serve and share the Word of God around the world regularly, several times per week on Zoom, and also help Yuda and the staff to keep the good work that they are doing. Both Netivyah International and Netivyah in Israel are doing essential and necessary work of both charity and education, and also spreading the word of God for the restoration of the Biblical Church (community) and the spreading of the Good News of Yeshua in the past, in the present, and in the near future of Yeshua returning to Zion to reign.

 Ilana Ahijervie is a dear sister who is 99 years old and suffering from memory problems.

 I visited Mauno Lemponen and he is in good spirits. He shares that I can feel the love and prayers from around the world in his daily life. He has been diagnosed with cancer in advanced stages. We are asking for God‘s Will to be done, giving him healthy days with family—prayers for Hilka, Miika, and Ester, who support each other.

 Cynthia M asked that you for praying for her health. She has neutropenia and chronic asthma and I has been undergoing biological treatment with injections every two weeks since 2021 so I ask you to pray for better results and better health conditions as the symptoms, respiratory infections, medications and injections make me very tired every day.

In Ethiopia:

 Diu G. has been sick with meningitis and he and his family are all in need of prayers for strength and healing to help him.

In Brazil:

 Ismael V ask for prayers for his parents: Ismael V 80 years old (Father) & Margarida Feliciana V, 75 years old (Mother). The mother has been suffering due to medical errors since 2008, and only a miracle can solve the situation. The father has prostate and vision problems.

 update Hester H in Virginia is in Beth's aunt and is back home from the Hospital. we are thankful for her restored health.

 Charlotte W has had a mild stroke and is currently in the hospital. prayer for recovery.

 update Beth is traveling this weekend to be with Gary H is awaiting a surgery for a hernia (the schedule is backed up with the doctor). He is in discomfort. We are praying for comfort and a successful surgery and recovery. Please pray for her safe travels and Garys recovery and Beths nursing skills.

 Elisheva’s husband is recovering from a fourth surgery. on September 23 he will have a 5th surgery. Also prayer for healing for Elisheva's left leg and hip joint healing. Also a interview next week for a new job.

 Pete and Marge. Marge is undergoing test for Brest cancer and they are in the process of trying to get legal guardianship of their grandkids. They are both in the mid 80s. Please pray for strength and longevity to get these kids past college age.

 Jose needs your prayers for a blessing on his marriage to grow stronger and prayers for the birth of a Son.

 Aida Ramirez 99 yrs old broke her right hip and has had surgery. she is still in rehabilitation however she is not walking yet. Please keep her in prayer for continued progress and restoration of walking.

 Aida Gonzalez needs prayers as the is the main caretaker of her mother Aida. She is visiting her mother daily and trying to keep a household. Please pray for strength and congregations support.

 Pat S pain management has improved with some shots. Keep Philip who is 89 and is caring for Pat in you prayers.

 Juli got a good report on her last scan and she is also in remission. So praise God both Bill and Jill are in remission. Give thanks to the Lord for he is Good.

 Please pray for Danah, my daughter's health issues. I pray for the Lord to give Danah wisdom, peace, and calm in life and her work.

 Aaron Hook, Nancy Hook’s oldest son, needs our prayers for wisdom and healing from past life issues.

 pray for Ilana Avramov, who is married to my cousin Nissim and lives in New York City. Ilana is home now. her health is in a decline like Marcia. She and Nissim both need our prayers.

 Pray for Steve Mock - His cognitive condition has declined, and we ask for the grace of God and His Healing and strength. Steve and Josie’s son Joseph has received a wonderful and glorious report. After the last bone marrow transplant, the report is that the doctors didn’t find any leukemia in his body! Praise the Lord!
